Time To Git Up: Rap Legends Xzibit, D12 and Obie Trice Are Co-Headlining a 2024 New Zealand Tour
The massive shows offer an extremely rare opportunity, as all three artists will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their most loved album. Two decades ago, what was undeniably a formative period for modern Hip-Hop, three of the biggest names in Rap - Xzibit, D12 and Obie Trice - all released their most beloved albums. Now the trio are celebrating their joint 20th anniversary by bringing the ultimate co-headline live show to New Zealand this June.Xzibit’s Man vs. Machine, D12’s iconic D12 World and Obie Trice’s Cheers, are all celebrating 20 years of musical influence in 2024 and there’s no doubt that each of these acts will come together and put on the show to match. The two New Zealand shows will kick off at Wolfbrook Arena in Christchurch on June 28, followed by Auckland’s Trusts Arena on June 29.Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, better known by his stage name Xzibit, was picked up by Dr Dre as a rising Rap prodigy in the early noughties. Dre went on to executive produce Xzibit’s top-charting 2004 record, Man vs. Machine, his most successful album that debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and still exists today as a gold standard of modern Hip-Hop. Xzibit has since continued his international fame through other highly successful ventures, such as hosting MTV’s iconic ‘Pimp My Ride’ and ‘Cribs’ and acting in TV as per CSI: Miami, Hawaii Five-O and many more. You’ll definitely know the name of this band - D12, an initialism for The Dirty Dozen, is an American hip hop group from Detroit who have had chart-topping albums worldwide since their conception in 1996. The group released the now multi-platinum D12 World in 2004, spawning numerous hit singles like “Git Up”, “My Band”, and “How Come.” With past members including former frontman Eminem, the now stripped-back group packs a mean punch in their live set.Obie Trice (real name, no gimmicks) spent the early years of his global career signed to Eminem’s label Shady Records, where he wrote and recorded his debut record, Cheers, which topped charts worldwide. Now certified multi-platinum, Cheers boasts possibly the most impressive features lineup on a debut record, with spots from Eminem, Nate Dogg, Timbaland, Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, D12 and Busta Rhymes. Obie Trice’s legacy lives on today through his own record label, Black Market Entertainment, on which he’s produced his latest three studio albums. Xzibit, D12 and Obie Trice are coming to New Zealand - with a one-of-a-kind show that will have fans ecstatic.
Throwing it back two decades to one of the most pivotal eras of modern hip-hop, three of the biggest artists in the rap scene all brought their most formidable albums to eager ears.
Xzibit’s Man vs. Machine , D12′s iconic D12 World and Obie Trice’s Cheers all made headlines back in 2004 as trailblazer albums in the hip-hop landscape and influential pieces of music history.
Now, celebrating their albums’ respective 20th anniversaries, the trio are bringing the ultimate co-headline live show to Kiwi shores this June.
The two New Zealand shows will kick off at Wolfbrook Arena in Christchurch on June 28, followed by Auckland’s Trusts Arena on June 29.
Alvin Nathaniel Joiner, better known by his stage name Xzibit, was picked up by the legendary Dr Dre as a budding rap prodigy on the rise in the early 2000s. Dre was the executive producer on Xzibit’s chart-topping 2004 album Man vs. Machine , which was dubbed Joiner’s most successful album, debuting at number three on the Billboard 200 and setting the bar high for hip-hop to come.
Since being quickly catapulted into the spotlight, Xzibit has continued to release music while dabbling in a few projects on the screen, such as hosting MTV’s iconic Pimp My Ride and Cribs and featuring in TV as per CSI: Miami and Hawaii Five-O.
A name that won’t go unnoticed, D12 - short for The Dirty Dozen - is an American hip-hop group born and bred in Detroit who have had several chart-topping albums affixed to their name since they first stepped into the music industry in 1996.
The rap group released the now multi-platinum D12 World twenty years ago, featuring hit singles such as Git Up, My Band, and How Come. D12, which once included members such as former frontman Eminem, is set to bring a dynamic show to the Kiwi stage - with a few of their old-school bangers in tow.
Obie Trice (real name, no gimmicks) spent his formative years in the rap game signed to Eminem’s record label Shady Records, where he wrote and recorded his debut record, Cheers, a certified global chart-topper.
With it now having received a multi-platinum award, Cheers is widely regarded as containing one of the most impressive feature line-ups on a debut album, boasting collaborations with Eminem, Nate Dogg, Timbaland, Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent, Dr Dre, D12 and Busta Rhymes.
Fans can secure their spot at the show of the year next week, with ticket pre-sales opening on Tuesday, February 13 at 12pm local time and general-sale tickets going live on Wednesday, February 14 at 12pm local time.

Xzibit Reminisces On The Restless Album’s 20th Anniversary
- Posted on December 12, 2020
“I had just finished up in smoke tour, and was feeling on top of the world. It was time to record so I went to the studio and released all the energy that I had built up over two years touring performing recording with the greats. When I was finished with the record, We were trying to figure out the title of the album, DRE saw the tattoo on the back of my neck and it said “Restless”, he said that’s what you should call the album. Mr Cartoon did that tattoo, little did I know it would turn out to be the title of a life altering experience. 20 years ago this album came out and changed my life.
Thank you for the love, thank you for the support. I’m glad you guys enjoyed it as much as I did making it.”

Xzibit, B-Real, & Demrick Drop New Serial Killers Album “Summer Of Sam”
- Posted on October 17, 2020
The Serial Killers collective, made up of Xzibit, B-Real, and Demrick, have come through with their new album “Summer Of Sam.” It’s October, which means it’s about that time for some new music from the Serial Killers collective. Following up on their recent effort Day Of The Dead, Xzibit, B-Real, and Demrick have once again joined forces for a new effort, this one bigger and better than before. Locking in with several Aftermath alumni behind the boards, including longtime Dr. Dre collaborators Focus and Dem Jointz, Summer Of Sam comes equipped with some hard-hitting production.
And though the group’s name may suggest something closer to horrorcore, their latest effort is far more insightful, drawing inspiration from the current state of the world. Song titles like “Triggered,” “Quarantine,” and “War In The Streets” tend to hit rather close to home in the wake of everything that’s been going on. And for the duration, Xzibit, B-Real, and Demrick serve as effective commentators, detailing the impending apocalypse with veteran’s poise and battle-ready flows. Boasting guest appearances from Busta Rhymes, DJ Quik, and Snoop Dogg, Summer Of Sam should prove essential listening to anyone who holds an appreciation for any of the parties involved. What do you think of this project?

Xzibit, B-Real, & Demrick Drop “Quarantine”
- Posted on October 14, 2020
Xzibit, B-Real, and Demrick drop off new Serial Killers single “Quarantine” ahead of Friday’s album release. This coming Friday, Xzibit, B-Real, and Demrick’s Serial Killers collective is set to drop off their brand new album Summer Of Sam, which features guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, and DJ Quik. And with their lead single “S.O.S” having dropped at the beginning of the month, the crew has opted to slide through with another new offering — this one boasting the highly topical title of “Quarantine.” Produced by Dr. Dre collaborator Dem Jointz, the melodic opening quickly transforms into something far more layered.
Setting things off is Xzibit, sounding as sharp as ever as he lays out brutally honest societal commentary. “All of the drive-through fast food that you can consume, ain’t no hospital beds open so one can assume / that if something serious happens let’s say having a stroke / that you can possibly get a virus while having some help.” Given the serious nature of the topic, “Quarantine” carries a notable weight throughout each verse, and B-Real and Demrick pick up where X left off in that regard. Look for them to explore the current state of the world even further on Summer Of Same, available in full this coming Friday.
QUOTABLE LYRICS All of the drive-through fast food that you can consume, Ain’t no hospital beds open so one can assume That if something serious happens let’s say having a stroke That you can possibly get a virus while having some help

In a video posted by Juicy Fest on its social media accounts at the time, the rappers were shown standing in front of the Māori welcoming ceremony, which was performed by kapa haka group KaiHaka at Auckland airport.
Ne-Yo responded by singing his 2006 song 'So Sick' back to the group.
Five things to know: Ryan Fox
Need to Know
Change Text Size
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox is highly regarded across the world of professional golf.
This week, the greater world might get to know him, too.
Fox stormed into the early Masters lead with an opening nine of 5-under 31 at Augusta National Golf Club, in his second Masters start after finishing T26 a year ago. Fox qualified for this year’s Masters via the top 50 on the 2023 year-end Official World Golf Ranking.
Fox, 37, began the week with just three made cuts in eight TOUR starts this season, no finish better than T35, but he’s having little trouble so far at Augusta National.
Here are five things to know about Fox.
1. His dad is a rugby legend.
Fox is the son of Grant Fox, a member of the famed All Blacks team that won the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987. That year, Grant Fox set the world record for most points scored in a Rugby World Cup tournament. It doesn’t stop there, as Fox’s grandpa Merv Wallace (his mom’s dad) was a renowned cricketer on the New Zealand national team, described by one obituary as “one of the best batsmen New Zealand has ever produced,” per CNN.
2. Golf wasn’t his first love.
As per family heritage, cricket and rugby were Fox’s first sports as a young New Zealander, although he enjoyed hitting golf balls around the backyard as an elementary schooler. His grandpa Merv Wallace crafted his first set of clubs from wood, and he steadily fell in love with the sport through his teenage years. “I’d always wanted to be a professional sportsman,” Fox told CNN. “It just took a fair while to figure out what sport it was going to be.”
3. He’s a two-time Olympian.
Fox represented New Zealand in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Men’s Golf Competition, joining his dad and grandpa in representing their home country in international sporting competition. “It was a pretty cool achievement … I think Dad was pretty chuffed when he could say that,” Fox told PGATOUR.COM. He hopes to make it a third straight Olympics, with this year’s golf competition to be played at Le Golf National, a regular French Open venue where he has competed several times.
4. He earned dual PGA TOUR membership via the DP World Tour
Fox has achieved great success across the globe, including four DP World Tour titles and three on the PGA Tour of Australasia, but this is his first season as a PGA TOUR member. He earned his card via the 2023 DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai, as No. 2 on the season-long standings (not otherwise exempt on TOUR).
5. He’s a family man.
Fox and wife Anneke have two daughters, Isobel and Margot, and the Foxes enjoyed family time at Wednesday’s Masters Par 3 Contest. They weren’t on hand for his Masters debut last year (when Fox’s dad caddied in the Par 3 Contest), making this year even more special.
