Recently our school organized an educational trip to the Taj Mahal, Agra. The Taj Mahal is the most beautiful monument built in the Mughal period. It is one of the wonders of the world. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

This gateway of Taj Mahal is built with the use of Red Sandstone. There is a beautiful garden that begins at the main gateway and ends at the base of the monument. The building is made of pure white marble. It took twenty thousand workmen and twenty years to build. The monument is built on the bank of the river Yamuna.  It was the most beautiful building I had ever seen.

Last Sunday, we went to the Red Fort by a specially hired bus. Along the entrance two rows of shops selling various objects of art besides selling handicrafts. During the Mughal times, this was known as Meena Bazaar. After crossing the lawn, we reached the historic building known as ‘Naubat Khana’. Then we saw ‘Diwan-e-Aam’ or the Hall of Public Audience.

Then we went to the ’Rang Mahal’ which was a place of pleasures and richly inlaid with precious stones in the Mughal period. There is a ‘Khas Mahal’ beside the Rang Mahal. It has a beautiful marble screen. The Red Fort also has the War Memorial Museum where weapons used in the First World War are exhibited. We got to see many historical things that we read in our books. We enjoyed the trip very much.

My dream came true when last month our history teacher arranged a trip to Agra for us. It was 24 October when we reached there. That very afternoon we went to see the famous Taj Mahal. It is a masterpiece of architecture-all in marble. We admired the four more mosques with tall slender minarets and the huge central dome. The surroundings lend beauty to it. The mausoleum stands in the center of a big garden with marble water channels, rows of fountains, and stately cypress trees.

The tombs of Shah Jahan and his wife lie beneath the dome. We went to see the Agra Fort too. When Shah Jahan was confined there, he spent his time gazing at the mausoleum of his creation from his prison window. We saw things that we had read about in our books-the Dewan-i-Am, the Diwan-i-Khas, the Pearl Mosque, and the Shish Mahal. A visit to a place of historical importance does make history real and interesting. It was a wonderful trip.

A visit to a historical place is very educative. It instructs as well as entertains us. I am fond of visiting historical buildings. Last year, I went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. In the evening, we went to see the Taj Mahal. I had heard a lot about the beauty of the Taj Mahal. But reality surpassed the descriptions that had been given to me.

It is a wonder in marble, a specimen of Mughal art. Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in the sweet memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was built about three hundred and fifty years ago.  It stands on the right bank of the river Yamuna. The gateway which is made of red stone is very beautiful. The garden is very lovely. The tall dark cypress trees, smooth green lawns, and the beds of flowers are pleasing to the eyes. The fountains flow here and there.

The main building is made of white marble. It stands on a raised platform. At its four corners, there are four stately towers. Inside the tomb, Emperor Shah Jahan and his beloved Mumtaz Mahal lie buried side by side. This monument tells us about the expertise of the artists and craftsmen of that era. The visit to the Taj Mahal was a wonderful experience for us. It was both enjoyable and educational.

The United States is home to an array of fascinating historic sites, from the battlefields of the American Civil War to the iconic Statue of Liberty. Traversing its Native American origins all the way up to the 20th century, exploring the history of the USA is an intriguing and worthwhile pursuit.

For this world superpower, we have compiled a list of the best sites to visit, featuring a range of the USA’s most famous attractions alongside its lesser-known gems.

1. The White House

The White House has been the seat of the US government and home of Presidents of the United States of America for over 200 years.

Original construction of the White House began in October 1792 after President George Washington chose what is now 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as the location for the new home of the federal government. The White House was not yet completed when, in 1800, it housed its first ‘first family’ President John Adams and First Lady, Abigail Adams.

The White House Visitors Centre is also a source of White House history, including details of the building’s architecture and history. A tour of the visitors centre should take between 20 minutes and an hour.

2. Gettysburg Battlefield

Gettysburg National Military Park is brimming with approximately 1,328 monuments, markers and memorials relating to the American Civil War. The Battle of Gettysburg raged from 1 to 3 July 1863, resulting in over 51,000 casualties and victory for the Unionists. It marked a significant turning point in the war, followed twenty one months later by the surrender of the Confederacy.

Visitors can follow the route of Battle of Gettysburg, from Seminary Ridge and Culp’s Hill to Cemetery Ridge and Devils Den as well as visiting David Wills’ house, a museum about the town. The National Park Service Museum and Visitor Center is a good place to start as it contains a wide range of Civil War related information as well as a plethora of guided tours and exhibitions.

3. Lincoln Memorial

The Lincoln Memorial is a Greek style monument in Washington DC’s West Potomac Park. The Lincoln Memorial was designed by the architect, Henry Bacon, who also sculpted the statue of Lincoln which visitors can see within its walls.

As the site of many important political speeches and events, Lincoln Memorial has a history of its own, independent from its original purpose. In particular, it was the site where Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech on 28 August 1963.

4. Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde National Park is a breathtaking Native American site dotted with over 4,000 archaeological treasures, including 600 exceptionally well preserved cliff dwellings dating back to 600 AD. Mesa Verde National Park was once the home of the Pueblos, a Native American people who lived there for over 700 years before migrating to New Mexico and Arizona.

Some of the sites, such as the Cliff Palace and Balcony House with its over 150 rooms can only be viewed as part of a ranger tour, for which you can buy tickets at Far View Visitor Center before attending the sites. It’s also well worth viewing the large collection of artefacts on display.

5. Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is an iconic copper and steel statue in the entrance to New York Habour and an enduring symbol of freedom and independence. The Statue of Liberty’s total height from ground to torch is a staggering 92.99 metres. Originally built in France in 1884, it arrived in New York in June 1885 and was dedicated on 28 October 1886.

Situated on Liberty Island, there are numerous exhibits and tours available both inside and outside the Statue of Liberty. Upon reaching Liberty Island, visitors can go to the information station to watch a short film about the statue’s history and check the schedule of events for one of 45 minute long ranger tours, which start at the Liberty Island Flagpole.

6. Alcatraz Island

Alcatraz Island was the site of a notoriously harsh prison based off the coast of San Francisco, California, this isolated position earning it the name of “The Rock”.

Alcatraz Island is today managed by the National Parks Service and offers tours of the old prison. An eerie yet fascinating journey into the workings of this famous site, visitors to Alcatraz Island can make use of audio guides which chronicle its history (45 minutes). The visit usually lasts 2-3 hours.

7. Independence Hall - Philadelphia

Independence Hall in Philadelphia is one of the most important landmarks in US history, being the site where the nation declared independence from Great Britain on 4 July 1776. The hall is now part of Independence National Historical Park, which also encompasses a myriad of important sites such as Congress Hall and Liberty Bell Centre sprawled over 55 acres within the City of Philadelphia.

Visitors can choose from a variety of ranger guided walking tours as well as various indoor and outdoor activities. Across the road is the Liberty Bell Centre, housing the famous Liberty Bell, one of the most significant symbols of the American Civil War and formerly hung in Independence Hall’s tower. Congress Hall is next door to Independence Hall.

8. Historic Jamestowne

It was in Historic Jamestowne in 1607 that the English established their first successful colony in America. Previous attempts, notably that of Roanoke in 1587, had been made, but the colony the English formed in Jamestowne was the root of what was to eventually become America.

Today, Jamestowne forms part of Colonial National Park, a historic site which encompasses York Town Battlefield, Colonial Parkway and the Cape Henry Memorial. Visitors can explore the history of the site and that of the country as a whole. Amongst its many attractions, it is worth seeing the Jamestown Glasshouse, a recreation of the first industrial building of the Virginia Company, the London-based company that founded the colony.

9. The Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail takes visitors to Boston through a tour of sixteen sites in the city which were of importance before and during the American Revolution against British rule in the 18th century.

Boston played a central role in igniting the American Revolution, also known as the American War of Independence, and the Freedom Trail contains the sites which tell its story.

The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile trip which visitors can either follow independently using the red pavement markings around the city or join one of the selections of guided tours, which last around an hour and a half.

10. September 11 Memorial

The World Trade Centre was a complex of seven buildings in Manhattan in New York, which was destroyed by terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 in a devastating event known as 9/11.

Today, visitors can see the site where the attacks took place, with the World Trade Centre Memorial and Museum on the site where the Twin Towers once stood.

11. Martin Luther King Jr National Site

The Martin Luther King Jr National Site in Atlanta, Georgia is dedicated to commemorating the life of the leader of the African-American civil rights movement and chronicling his campaign for racial equality.

Visitors to the Martin Luther King Jr Historic Site can visit Dr and Mr’s King’s crypt at the King Centre, view his birthplace and see exhibitions and films about Dr King’s life and the civil rights movement. There are also exhibits about Gandhi , who inspired Dr King and about Rosa Parks , whose refusal to give up her seat on a bus was an iconic event of the movement.

12. Ellis Island

Ellis Island was the entry point into the United States of America for over twelve million immigrants between 1892 and 1954.

The Ellis Island Immigration Museum offers a detailed insight into the island’s history, its role in the country’s immigration procedures and the stories of the immigrants. It is a celebration of immigration, including a wall of honour and many exhibits and artefacts.

13. Montezuma Castle

Montezuma Castle in Arizona is a cliff dwelling built by the Sinagua Indians in around 1100 AD, and occupied until approximately 1425 AD. Occupying an area of around 4,000 square feet, Montezuma Castle is an eminently impressive five storey limestone and mud structure demonstrating the ingenuity of the Sinagua people.

Unfortunately, the public cannot actually enter Montezuma Castle and have not been able to do so since 1951. Those interested in its history and excavation can visit the onsite museum.

14. Ford Theatre

It was in Ford Theatre on the night of 14 April 1865 that well-known actor John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was the first American President to be assassinated .

Ford Theatre is now an operating theatre house as well as a museum showcasing a variety of historical artifacts related to Lincoln’s presidency, his assassination and his life in Washington. Ford Theatre also stands across the street from Petersen House, where the President was taken following the shooting and where he subsequently died.

15. Little Bighorn Battlefield

Little Bighorn Battlefield in Montana played an important role in the Great Sioux War, a conflict between the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne Native Americans and the US government and which was part of an era known as the American-Indian Wars.

Now a National Park, the battlefield is dedicated to commemorating the events of the battle and the conflict of which it formed part. It includes an Indian Memorial, the Custer National Cemetery and offers guided talks exploring the conflict.

16. The Washington Monument

The Washington Monument was designed by architect Robert Mills, made out of marble, granite, and sandstone and completed on 6 December 1884, almost thirty years after Mills’ death.

The Washington Monument was constructed in honour of the first president of the United States of America, George Washington, who was considered to be the “Father of the Country”. Washington led the USA to independence from the British and commanded great respect from his countrymen.

The Washington Monument is now part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks, with visitors able to ride the elevator to its observation deck, from which the views of the city are spectacular and run for thirty miles.

17. Taos Pueblo

Taos Pueblo is a Native American settlement in New Mexico’s Rio Grande, USA.

The Pueblo community in Taos Pueblo is known to date back to the fourteenth century, although some archeologists think it was established as far back as the 1st century AD. The Pueblo tribe is one of the most secretive and enigmatic of the Native American communities, meaning that little is known about their culture, however around 150 Pueblos still live in Taos Pueblo.

Visits can be somewhat restrictive, particularly as regards Taos Pueblo’s beautiful church, but tours are available offering an insight into the Pueblo culture.

18. The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is one of the most famous art museums in the world, exhibiting pieces spanning over eight thousand years of history.

From prehistoric art and that of the Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans to medieval works, Asian art and art of the Americas, the Metropolitan Museum of Art explores ancient and historical cultures through their artwork.

Containing an incredibly diverse and comprehensive collection, the best way to tour the Metropolitan Museum of Art is probably with one of their guided tours, especially if you’re not sure what you want to see or want an overview of the museum or one of its collections. Tours are included in the admission price.

19. Yorktown Battlefield

Yorktown battlefield in Virginia is the location of the final battle of the American Revolution.

It was at Yorktown battlefield that, on 19 October 1781, the British surrendered to the combined forces of the French and American armies, under the command of General Washington. This dramatic action marked the end of the war and was the point at which the Americans attained independence.

Today, Yorktown battlefield forms part of Colonial National Park which encompasses Historic Jamestown, Colonial Parkway and the Cape Henry Memorial. Visitors to Yorktown Battlefield can learn about the history of the site and the end of the American Revolution with tours and exhibitions including visiting Moore House, where the terms of surrender were agreed.

20. The Liberty Bell

The Liberty Bell is one of the most important symbols of freedom and liberty in the US. Cast in London’s East End, the Liberty Bell arrived at Independence Hall – then called the Pennsylvania State House – in 1753 where it was hung. There it cracked on its very first toll.

The Liberty Bell has always embodied ideas of freedom and democracy. For example, it was engraved with the quote “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the Land unto all the inhabitants thereof” from Leviticus 25:10. This extract inspired a group of slave abolitionists to first name it the Liberty Bell, making it an emblem of their movement.

Today, the bell is on show in the Liberty Bell Center, part of the Independence National Historical Park.

21. Lincoln Tomb

Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, Illinois, is the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States of America.

Abraham Lincoln, born 12 April 1809, was the country’s first Republican president and led the Union during the American Civil War. His Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 resulted in the abolition of slavery . His term as president ran from March 1861 until 14 April 1865, when he died after being shot at Ford Theatre.

Abraham Lincoln is buried at Lincoln Tomb, which is now also the resting place of his wife and three of his four sons. Visitors to Lincoln Tomb can enter the 117-foot brick and granite structure and learn about Lincoln through his own speeches, which are displayed throughout.

22. The US Capitol

The US Capitol is the seat of the United States Congress, made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives, and, with its famous neoclassical facade and dramatic dome, is an iconic building in its own right.

Construction of the first incarnation of The US Capitol began in 1793 and the US Congress first met there – in what would be its north wing – in November 1800. Since then, The US Capitol has been the setting for many important national events such as presidential inaugurations.

Today, The US Capitol is both the home of the US legislature and a museum of American history and art. Free tours of the Capitol building itself are available, but must be booked in advance, and there is also a new visitor centre with exhibits about the US Capitol and its history.

23. The Anasazi Heritage Center

The Anasazi Heritage Center in Southwest Colorado is an archaeological museum which explores the culture and history of the Ancestral Puebloan people, also known as the Anasazi.

The Anasazi were Native Americans who lived and farmed in an area known as the “Four Corners”, made up of southwest Colorado, northeast Arizona, northwest New Mexico, and southeast Utah from as early as 1500 BC to around the fourteenth century. They were the ancestors of the modern Pueblos.

The Anasazi Heritage Center works to explore their culture through finds from excavations of archaeological sites. Two such twelfth century sites can also be found nearby and the museum is a good starting point for exploring the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument which contains a wealth of historical sites.

24. Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg is a historic site in Virginia made up of an entire town restored to its colonial state.

From homes to public buildings and shops, Colonial Williamsburg takes visitors back to the time when Williamsburg was the capital of Virginia – between 1699 and 1780. Later, during the American War of Independence, the capital of Virginia was moved to Richmond.

25. The Pacific Aviation Museum

The Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island in Hawaii is dedicated to telling the story of US aviation in the Pacific during World War II .

The museum is located on the historic Ford Island, a 441-acre island in the middle of Pearl Harbour . The museum thus focuses on the fateful day – 7 December 1941 – which effectively forced America to join World War II , when Japanese forces launched a surprise attack on the US military base.

Visitors begin by viewing a film about the attack on Pearl Harbour , before seeing a series of exhibitions ranging from photographs and dioramas to aircrafts. The Pacific Aviation Museum houses numerous aircrafts including light civilian planes, a B-25B Mitchell, a P-40 fighter, and a SBD Dauntless dive bomber.

26. The Alamo

The Alamo is an iconic historic site in downtown San Antonio that remains a symbol of Texan heroism. It has been immortalised in popular culture for the events that unfolded during the famous Battle of The Alamo , which took place on the 6th March 1836.

Today the Alamo is one of Texas’ most popular tourist destinations. The complex is made up of a number of buildings, including the barracks, and hosts several exhibits about the battle and the history of the war. Tour guides are also on hand to guide visitors around the complex.

27. Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore is a granite mountain in Keystone, South Dakota carved with the heads of four of the Presidents of the USA.

Begun in 1927, the work to create Mount Rushmore was carried out by 400 sculptors. It was intended that each figure be shown from the waist upwards, but the project ended prematurely in 1941 when funds ran out.

There are guided tours of Mount Rushmore (30 mins) or visitors can rent an audio guide (30-120 mins). A trip to Mount Rushmore usually lasts around 2 hours.

28. Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia is both a military burial site and an iconic monument to fallen soldiers. Initially, the site of Arlington Cemetery began as a house – Arlington House – built in memory of President George Washington. The house, which still stands today, then became the property of Mary and Robert E. Lee.

Over the years, Arlington National Cemetery has come to represent a memorial to all US soldiers who have died for their country and is still an active cemetery. In fact, there are approximately 300,000 graves at Arlington National Cemetery, neatly aligned and each with a white headstone.

Many famous Americans are buried at Arlington National Cemetery, from military heroes to astronauts and leaders such as President John F Kennedy. Those visiting Arlington National Cemetery can start at the visitor centre, where there are guide books, maps and exhibits. Arlington House itself is also open to the public, with a museum and guides chronicling this building’s unique history.

29. Dealey Plaza

Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas was the site where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated at 12:30pm (CST) on 22 November 1963. Kennedy was the thirty-fifth President of the United States of America and served during the Cold War , his premiership encompassing events such as the Invasion of the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the building of the Berlin Wall .

Dealey Plaza has changed little from the day of Kennedy’s assassination, however there are several nearby monuments such as the John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza. There is also a small museum, known as the Sixth Floor Museum, in the adjacent Texas School Book Depository where Oswald is alleged to have hidden. This chronicles the life of John F Kennedy. The museum also offers audio guides to Dealey Plaza and nearby sites, which is included in the entry fee.

30. National Museum of American History

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History offers a diverse exploration of the nation’s history, its collections ranging from public lives, to major national events and cultural elements such as areas of advertising and the cinema.

With over three million artifacts, the National Museum of American History covers everything from popular culture and entertainment to technology, military history and politics.

Some of the highlights of its exhibits include the actual Star Spangled Banner, Lincoln’s iconic top hat and, depending on your area of interest, the original Kermit the Frog Puppet.

Our school had already announced that we were going to see the Taj Mahal. We were elated and were wondering how thrilling, and exciting this experience would be. We had heard and read about it- there was a full chapter in our history book on Taj Mahal, but now we were about to see it for real.

Our principal and teachers had planned for all of us to visit the Taj Mahal on a full moon night. We were told that on the full moon night the monument looks even more glamorous and glorious, and it makes for a splendid spectacle. This added even more excitement to the previous announcement. We would have had to stay awake the whole night but so what? For such a wonderful experience, it was not a big deal.

We were asked to assemble on a Saturday afternoon at the school campus. We were instructed to carry our packed dinner-boxes and water bottles. We were strictly prohibited from buying any eatables there or littering the Taj Garden’s premises. We were warned against buying the souvenirs from the crafty hawkers. These instructions and warnings were repeated to us over and over again. First by our Principal, then by the respective teachers who were in charge of our groups into which we were divided.

We had brought consent from our parents in writing for this trip. From Delhi to Agra, we had to travel by bus, it was around a 5 hours journey. We assembled at the school campus at the given time, and were divided into groups. The teachers took charge of the respective groups, our teacher in charge asked us to stand in a queue, she called out our names from a list that she carried. The items each one of us was carrying were inspected, and then we went ahead to board the buses. 

As we started to move out of the school campus, we all hailed the school with three cheers in a chorus and the journey began. After about 5 hours we were told that we were at The Taj Mahal. The full moon was shining in the sky right above us. The premises seemed like it was filled with the milky hue. We left our buses at a little distance and stepped down. Again, our teachers called out our names from the lists, and we all stood in a straight line. We followed our teacher and walked towards the monument.

After a little while, we were at the main gate of The Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal glowed in the full moonlight in its grandeur. We all felt wonderstruck by the majesty, beauty, and opulence of the dome structure. The moonlit premises added elegance to the mystique. The Taj Mahal resembled a white swan standing still in a sprawling milk lake. The fountains on the campus were bubbling and bursting along the pathway. The fountains were flanked by the green lawns on either side. It was heavily crowded. Men, women, and children were trying to find a way for themselves. There were so many foreigners looking at the monument like they were totally wonderstruck.

We had to ramble to make it to the main platform, took off our shoes at the entrance, and were up on the main platform on which stood the great monument. The four minarets stood like sentinels on the four corners. After about two hours of wandering and rejoicing around the ‘Dream in Marble’, we came down to the lawns to open our dinner packets. Last Sunday, I visited the Taj Mahal with my family. It was a dream come true for us to have visited the architectural marvel about which we have heard so much and had read so much in our books. We started feeling proud of our country to have this magnificent form of art.

Our history teacher asked us to assemble at a place and started explaining how the Mughal emperor Shahjahan got this monument built as a mausoleum for his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. He had stated his desire to be buried by her side after his death. So, there were the two graves inside the mausoleum placed side by side.

We roamed around, kept adoring the astounding beauty, and were amazed at the artistry of the fine carvings. How gifted must those hands be which created that piece of art with so much artistry, we pondered. We looked at the Taj Mahal at one glance and in the second looked at the full moon in the sky. The Taj Mahal looked no less marvellous than the moon in the sky.

River Yamuna flows on the backside of this magnificent monument. It was as if the Yamuna was washing the feet of this marvellous wonder with a full sense of gratitude. For two hours, we went around this monument only rejoicing and wondering.

The Allahabad Fort was on my trip. Much has changed since then, yet the Allahabad Fort remains. Because of its superior architecture and beauty, Akbar ordered its construction in 1583. This caused the fort's roof to collapse, destroying much of its former splendour. Allahabad was originally part of the Magadha Empire, and I instantly recognised the Ashoka pillar. The pillar has an ode to Samudragupta, the Magadha ruler, which I read aloud.

I visited the famed Prayag relic, Patalpuri Temple, one of the oldest remaining pre-Muslim buildings. Close to the arsenal's northern wall sits this shrine. It seems the fort was built to be erected far higher than the temple.

The Akshaya Var tree was again in my path as I continued walking. This tree's wish-fulfilling well is said to be a popular destination for folklore lovers. Akbar stopped it. The Mughal Governor's (Military Commander's) pavilion, however, was  most inviting with Beautiful pillars. They had impeccable taste.

The British decided to demolish a considerable portion of the fort to make place for a school, reducing its beauty. At present, the historic palace is now an arsenal.

Then I went back to Triveni for a swim. I lauded the Ganga's merits after my Allahabad Fort visit. Comparing the old and new forts at Allahabad, it is evident that the old fort at Allahabad is in ruins, while the new fort at Allahabad demonstrates neglect.

The Taj Mahal is immortal. It may have been the beauty concretized in pure white marble. It may have been called a joy forever, but unfortunately in the materialistic world of today, even the beauty of the Taj Mahal is in danger because of the effluent Nitrous oxide and Sulphur dioxide being emitted by the Mathura refinery. Let us hope the scientists are able to find a fix and can save our Taj Mahal.

Certain sites capture the world’s imagination not only because of their beauty and the human ingenuity they exemplify but also because of their unique window into the past. These 13 UNESCO-protected spots, including many of the New Seven Wonders of the World, are among the most sought-after tourist attractions around the globe.

Whenever you visit a new place, you should take special care to carry out what you bring in, stick to assigned trails, and leave the environment better than you found it (even if that means grabbing trash another visitor left behind). But this rule is particularly important when it comes to these protected spaces. Many are vulnerable for a whole list of reasons, including climate impact and fragility due to very old age. 1. Cultural Landscape of Sintra

You probably assume Sintra is on this list for the fairy-tale–inspiring National Palace of Sintra overlooking the city—but that’s only part of it. The city is home to some of the best (and first) examples of Romantic architecture anywhere in the world. The castle at the top of the hill once served as a monastery before Ferdinand II repurposed it as a castle mixing Moorish, Egyptian, Renaissance, and Gothic architectural and design elements. Also very notable is the maze of parks and gardens, which blend local and non-native plant species. You’ll never know what to expect next, whether it’s an intricate wall of azulejos (locally made tiles), a set of mock ruins tucked among the landscaping, or a massive dome overhead.

How to visit

Sintra is easy to reach from Lisbon—two trains make the one-hour journey every day. The most popular route is to take the train from the Rossio Station to the Sintra Station. It’s not recommended to explore the city by car; many of the roads are very narrow and not built for modern transportation, and parking in the surrounding area can be tough during tourist high season (May through October).

2. Chichén Itzá

Chichén Itzá , a complex of pre-Columbian ruins on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, thrived as one of the largest Mayan cities from 400 C.E. to the 1400s. It’s thought to have had the most diverse population in the Mayan world due to the variety of Mesoamerican architectural styles on-site. Chichén Itzá’s most famous structures include the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors, and El Castillo (also known as the Temple of Kukulkan), a step pyramid that towers over one of the most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Chichén Itzá is a three-hour drive from Cancún and about 30 minutes from Valladolid. Tickets to Chichén Itzá can be purchased on-site. Entry costs approximately $36 for adults; entry for children 12 and under is free. The 16th-century colonial city has a baroque cathedral and a variety of accommodation options, from hotels with cenotes to the Coqui Coqui guesthouse and perfumery.

3. Jaipur City

Jaipur, India

The walled city of Jaipur is eye-catching for many reasons. At the top of the list is its rosy hue—the entire town was painted pink to welcome King Edward VII (then Prince Albert) in 1876, as pink was a color associated with hospitality. The prince supposedly deemed Jaipur the “Pink City,” and it stuck. In 1877, Maharaja Ram Singh took it a step further by passing a law ordering all future buildings to have the same pink exterior, from temples to private residences. Jaipur was the first planned city in India, known for its grid design and symmetrical buildings with even patterns and rows of chhatri (elevated domes sitting atop buildings).

It’s easy to get to Jaipur by train, car, or airplane from major cities in India. Jaipur is part of the Golden Triangle , a route that also includes New Delhi and Agra. You need at least a week to enjoy all that the Golden Triangle cities have to offer.

Rainy season is no joke at Machu Picchu—plan accordingly.

4. Machu Picchu

Peru Located in the Peruvian Andes at nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, Machu Picchu cascades down a dramatic mountain spine surrounded by the Sacred Valley’s jagged peaks. Millions of visitors flock to this UNESCO World Heritage site each year to see the terraces and classical dry-stone buildings of the citadel. While it is recognized as one of the top historic, World Heritage sites, Machu Picchu had a short life span. It was built by the Incas around 1450 but abandoned a century later during the Spanish conquest.

You can reach Aguas Calientes, the nearest town to Machu Picchu, by train from Cusco. Inca Rail, PeruRail, and the more luxurious Belmond Hiram Bingham train have daily service between the two destinations; the journey takes more than three hours. The Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel is a four-minute walk from the train station and looks like a village with terraced gardens, stone pathways, and guest rooms in adobe casitas.

Another way to visit Machu Picchu is to go on a guided hike of the famous Inca Trail, which can be booked through various tour operators in Cusco. Entry tickets cost approximately $23 for adults and $20 for students and must be purchased in advance for a specific date and time slot.

Angkor Wat is one of the world’s largest religious monuments, with five iconic towers that represent the five peaks of Mount Meru, a sacred mountain in Hindu mythology.

5. Angkor Wat

With its wide moat and drip sand castle-like towers, Angkor Wat is one of the most scenic World Heritage sites and recognizable religious structures. King Suryavarman II, ruler of Southeast Asia’s former Khmer Empire, directed the construction during the 12th century. The Hindu temple complex, a network of stone temples decorated with intricate carvings of devatas (Hindu deities), is even more impressive when you consider it’s just one of the attractions at the UNESCO-designated Angkor Archaeological Park . Spread across approximately 400 acres in northwestern Cambodia, the complex has many other architecturally significant jungle-intertwined ruins and temples, including a temple featured in Angelina Jolie’s 2001 Tomb Raider film, as well as inhabited villages.

The park entrance is approximately three miles north of the center of Siem Reap. A convenient way to visit Angkor Wat is to hire a tuk-tuk driver for about $20 a day. Visitors can buy tickets at the main entrance to the temple. One-day passes cost approximately $37 for adults; entry for children 12 and under is free.

There are many affordable hotels in Siem Reap, but book a safari-style tent at The Beige (where even the floating forest pool has views of the World Heritage site) for a slight splurge.

Wadi Musa, Jordan During its zenith, Petra , Jordan’s most famous archaeological site, was a bustling commerce center where citizens traded Arabian incense, Chinese silks, and Indian spices. Nabateans built the ancient city in the country’s southwestern desert in 400 B.C.E., but it was unknown to the Western world until the 1800s. Accessed via a narrow canyon and with towering temples and tombs carved into pink sandstone cliffs (earning it the name “The Red Rose City”), it feels otherworldly. Perhaps that’s why Petra’s treasury stood in for the temple housing the Holy Grail in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade .

How to visit This UNESCO World Heritage site is about 150 miles south of Jordan’s capital, Amman. Most visitors access Petra Archaeological Park through Wadi Musa, a nearby town with a handful of luxurious hotel offerings for travelers who make the trip to the rock-wall crypts. One-day tickets for visitors who spend at least a night in Jordan cost approximately $70 for adults; entry for children 12 and under is free.

7. Stonehenge

While experts agree that Stonehenge , a circle of stone megaliths in the English countryside, dates to 2500 B.C.E., the reason for its creation remains mysterious. Some archaeologists think ancient Britons built it for religious ceremonies, while others believe the structures were used to study the movements of the sun and the moon. Either way, the construction was an engineering feat. (To shape Stonehenge’s megalithic structures, workers hammered wooden wedges into cracks in the stone and then used rope to pull each mass upright.)

Travelers can take a 2.5-hour train ride from London or an hour-long trip from Bath to get to Stonehenge. From the Wiltshire visitor center, a free shuttle bus makes frequent trips to the ruins. Tickets purchased in advance cost approximately $33 for adults and $20 for children. Tickets purchased on-site cost slightly more.

8. The Parthenon

Athens, Greece Perched atop a rocky outcrop known as the Acropolis , in Athens, this classical and partly intact temple has presided over Greece’s capital city since the Athenian Empire was at the peak of its power. In 447 B.C.E., the Athenians constructed the Parthenon—dedicated to the goddess Athena—to celebrate their victory over Persian invaders. It has since served as a city treasury, a Christian church dedicated to the Virgin Mary and, after the Ottoman conquest, a mosque. At the foot of the hill, the Acropolis Museum showcases the Parthenon frieze (although some sections are still controversially on display at London’s British Museum), artifacts discovered on the Acropolis, and even the remains of an ancient neighborhood uncovered during the museum’s construction.

Located in the center of Athens, the Parthenon is easy to visit thanks to metro and city bus stops nearby. The nearest metro stop is Acropoli. Tickets to the Acropolis can be purchased online or at the entrance. During high season, tickets to the Acropolis cost approximately $35 for adults and half that during the winter; entry is roughly $11 for students with ID.

9. The Great Wall of China

China It took more than 2,500 years to build the Great Wall , China’s most recognizable symbol, which snakes through the northern part of the country for more than 13,000 miles. During the 8th century B.C.E., the Zhou dynasty–era state of Chu began construction on the wall to protect against foreign invaders. Most tourists explore a section or two of the stone-and-brick fortification; it would take approximately 177 days of nonstop walking to see the entire wall.

Frequently visited sections of the wall include Mutianyu and Jinshanling. The former is a 90-minute drive from Beijing and an easy day trip; the latter takes twice as long to reach but is one of the wall’s most well-preserved sections and is popular with hikers. Each section of the wall requires its own entry ticket. The cost is typically about $6 to $8, although prices vary.

The Taj Mahal was built on the banks of the River Yamuna on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth.

10. Taj Mahal

The perfectly symmetrical Taj Mahal features a 240-foot-tall central dome and an exterior with inlaid semiprecious stones. Widely considered the most beautiful existing example of Mughal architecture, the white marble mausoleum was erected between 1631 and 1648 after Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan ordered its construction to honor his late wife. (He tapped approximately 20,000 of the best craftsmen from Central Asia to complete the project.) Jahan intended to build a second mausoleum for himself, but the building never came to fruition. After he passed away in 1666, the emperor was buried next to his wife. Visitors to this World Heritage site can explore the grounds’ vast garden featuring long reflecting pools of water and a red sandstone gate.

Most people visit the Taj Mahal on a day trip from Delhi. There are many high-speed trains to Agra from Delhi, Varanasi, and cities across northern India’s Rajasthan state. Tickets cost approximately $13 for adults; entry for children 15 and younger is free.

Dutch explorers gave Easter Island its name in 1722 after spotting the landmass on Easter Sunday, but the Indigenous name is Rapa Nui.

11. Easter Island

Chile Located 2,200 miles off the coast of Chile, this remote island was named by 18th-century Dutch explorers who spotted the landmass on Easter Sunday. It’s famous for its approximately 1,000 mammoth statues, which the Indigenous Polynesian inhabitants created from the 10th through 16th centuries to represent their ancestors. Rapa Nui National Park , which covers half of Easter Island, is the best place to see the carved figures, or moai . There are about 400 moai at the ancient quarry Rano Raraku, including a 70-foot-tall statue that was never raised upright. The most famous site, Tongariki, features 15 moai beside the ocean. Made from a soft volcanic rock called tuff, the monuments are vulnerable to the elements, and archaeologists believe one day they may disappear.

Latam operates two daily flights from Santiago de Chile to Hanga Roa, Easter Island’s capital. The trip takes about 5.5 hours. The entrance fee to Rapa Nui National Park is $80 for adults, $40 for children.

12. The Pyramids at Giza

Cairo, Egypt The Pyramids at Giza arose during a construction frenzy from 2550 to 2490 B.C.E. Egyptian pharaohs believed they would become gods in the afterlife, so they filled these elaborate tombs with everything they would need in the next world, including jewelry, furniture, and sculptures of servants. Pharaoh Khufu ordered the building of the first and largest of the three structures, known as the Great Pyramid. His son Pharaoh Khafre built the second pyramid with a necropolis (burial place) that includes the Great Sphinx, a limestone sculpture of a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. Pharaoh Menkaure built the third and final temple. Each massive pyramid is part of a larger tomb complex that includes a palace, temples, and other features.

The pyramids are located on the Giza Plateau, about 11 miles southwest of Cairo. There isn’t an easy way to get there using public transportation, so travelers typically take a taxi, use Uber, or hire a car and driver. A few hotels like the posh Marriott Mena House are within walking distance of the pyramids. (Tickets cost approximately $17 per person.)

I visited Qutub Minar with my family last Sunday. Even though we live in Delhi, we had never been to see the minaret from up close. Qutub Minar is among Delhi's most intriguing tourist attractions. We hired a tour guide from the tourist office area located in the premises of the historical monument. While giving us a tour he told us about many interesting historical facts about the monument.

Interesting Facts | Qutub Minar is the world's tallest brick-built minaret, at 72.5 metres high. UNESCO has designated it as a World Heritage Site. This minaret is regarded as the symbol of triumph. Qutub-Ud-In Aibak, a deputy employed by Muhammad of Ghor, began building this minaret in Delhi as a memoir of victory. The building of the Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan served as inspiration for the design of the Qutub Minar. Hence, the Afghani and Indo-Islamic architecture is evident in the design of the minaret. It is regarded as the Delhi Sultanate's emblem.

Architecture | The Qutub Minar features five storeys that are constructed in various timelines and symbolise various historical events. Beautiful balconies extend from each storey, making it a one-of-a-kind minaret. Marble and red sandstone were used to construct the tower. On the northeastern side of qutub minar, Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, India's first mosque, was built in 1198. After over 169 years, the lighting-damaged monument underwent renovations and gained two more floors under the reign of the modern Delhi Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlak. He completed the building by adding a dome or cupola to the top. These stories were crafted from white sandstone and marble. In this tower, the colour difference is fairly noticeable. Due to an earthquake that caused the minaret to shake and tumble, this dome is no longer visible. In the British era, Major R. Smith, a member of the British Empire's Royal Engineers, reconstructed the upper section in 1823 using a "Chhatri," or Bengali-style architecture. This upper section is still visible above the fifth storey.

Places We Saw | The interior of the minaret was quite interesting to explore because it had elaborate carvings and lovely patterns that date back more than 900 years. We also saw the minaret's iron pillar which was constructed in the fourth century AD. For 1600 years, the iron pillar stood the test of time. It is almost all wrought iron and hasn't rusted yet.

Our tour guide also took us to visit the tomb of Adham Khan, a minister in Akbar's imperial court, located not far from Qutub Minar. It dates back to the 16th century. Due to the murder of one of Akbar's closest ministers by Adham Khan, the emperor mandated that an octagonal tomb be built rather than a hexagonal one to signify that it is a traitor's tomb. The monument was a large tomb with magnificent archways.

This minaret has a lengthy history, having been built and restored by numerous Indian kings. It is also an illustration of the diverse Indian culture that emerged through several dynasties.I had a great time visiting the Qutub Minar. It was an unforgettable experience that provided us a glimpse of the great heritage of our country.

The historical place that I visited was the Red Fort in Delhi, India. It was built in the 17th century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and served as the residence of the Mughal emperors for almost 200 years. The Red Fort is a significant landmark in the history of India as it was from here that the British declared India’s independence in 1947. The fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts millions of visitors every year.

The Red Fort is an architectural marvel with a blend of Indian, Persian, and European styles. The fort is made of red sandstone and has intricate carvings and designs on its walls and pillars. The fort has two main entrances- the Lahore Gate and the Delhi Gate. The Lahore Gate leads to the Chatta Chowk, a covered bazaar where merchants used to sell their wares. The fort also has several palaces, including the Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, and the Rang Mahal, each with its unique design and purpose.

Walking through the Red Fort was an emotional experience for me. As I explored the different palaces and buildings, I could not help but imagine the grandeur and opulence of the Mughal era. It was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631. The complete construction of the Taj Mahal took around 22 years of time duration. It is made of white marble and exhibits tremendous beauty.

Hampi is an ancient village in the south Indian state of Karnataka. Its history is traced to numerous ruined temple complexes from the Vijayanagar empire, which show that Hampi was the capital of Vijayanagar. Hampi is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fatehpur Sikri is situated near Agra in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It was the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 16th century. To give tribute to the famous Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, emperor Akbar founded the Fatehpur Sikri from the twin villages of Fatehpur and Sikri in 1569. It got the status of a World Heritage Site in 1986.

Jallianwala Bagh is a historical garden near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, which was established by the Indian Government in 1951 to commemorate the massacre of Indian protesters by British military troops. It is a site of a sad but defining moment in the freedom struggle of India’s history. On 13th April 1919, following the instruction of Brigadier General R.E.H. Dyer, the British troops did open fire on a large group of unarmed protesters. In this firing, more than ten thousand people were killed, which is also known as the Amritsar Massacre.

Gateway of India: The Gateway of India subsequently played a significant part in India’s history. It is an arc monument built in the 20th century. Presently, it is situated in Mumbai city. It was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. When India attained Independence, the last British troops departed through it in 1948.

Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is a historical fort in old Delhi. It was built as a palace by the 5th Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan, as he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi in 1638. The capital was known as Shahjahanabad which is currently present in Old Delhi. The fort represents the Mughal architecture under the Shah Jahan emperor that combines Persianate palace architecture with Indian traditions.

Ajanta Ellora Caves is the largest rock-cut Hindu temple in the world which is carved into hillside rock in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. There are around 100 caves at the site, but only 34 caves are open for public view.

Finally, on a fixed date, I left Delhi with a train for Agra. The journey was really good and I enjoyed the journey by train .  

Historical Place – Taj Mahal: We all know lots of information about Taj. It’s one of the most beautiful architectural monuments in the entire world. It’s an amazement for the civilized architectures that is pretty impossible to build a building like this. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built in upon his loving wife Mumtaj Mahal’s graveyard. He did this to express his love for his wife. And that’s why Taj is considered as one of the biggest symbols of love. Lots of couple from India and foreign countries visit Taj Mahal to make their bond stronger.  

Conclusion: I had a really amazing time there in Agra. It’s a really beautiful place with so much fun.

These are the reasons behind my visit to Hawa Mahal.  

Hawa Mahal, Jaipur This amazing building is so big with more than 953 intricate windows. This is one of the most important tourist attractions in Jaipur. Lots of Indians and foreigners arrive daily to enjoy the beauty of Hawa Mahal. This amazing architectural building has got the name ‘Palace of Winds’, because of its look-alike honeycomb.    

Conclusion: I enjoyed the time very much in Hawa Mahal, Jaipur. Now I wish to visit more historic place in my country. I am suggesting and recommending everyone to visit Jaipur. It’s an amazing place for travelers. You will have so much fun and new experiences that will blow your mind.

Visit a Historic Place with My Family: Qutub Minar or the Towering Glory is Delhi is one of the oldest monuments in India by Mughal Emperors. Qutb-ud-din Aibak was the first ruler in North India and this monument has gotten its name from him. There are lots of verses of Quran in it, mostly written in Arabic. Quwwat-Ul-Islam Masjid, the very first mosque in India is located near Qutub Minar. It has amazing construction and has not been damaged even after 2000 years.  

What I Saw There? I was always loved seeing new places and especially the places are related to our history. Qutub Minar is a really popular monument and related to our history. That’s why I thought to be there. I enjoyed my time there and it was a very fun moment for me. The place was full of tourists and lots of them are foreigners. I always love to interact with foreigner peoples. I talked with a few of them; it was a very good experience for me.  

Conclusion: We should explore historical places like Qutub Minar more and more. It will let us learn about our history. It will help us to gather more knowledge.

Introduction: Visiting a historic place is a really wonderful experience for everyone. I prefer traveling and I choose my destinations in really attractive places. And that’s why I like historical places a lot. India is a really big country with numerous options for traveling. A few weeks ago, I was traveling Red Fort in Delhi, I will share my experience with this here.  

A Historical Place in India: Red Fort is one of the oldest and beautiful monuments in India. It was constructed over ten years from 1638 to 1648. Once Shah Jahan moved the capital from Agra to Delhi, in that time they were using this fort as Qila-e-Mubarak. This is the place where the president gives his speech on an independent day. An interesting fact about Red Fort is, it’s actually constructed with white color but in the British ruling time they painted it with Red. There is a place in Red Fort named ‘Rang Mahal’. If you visit this place, you must be there. I loved that beautiful place.

It’s the place where the wives of the Emperor, mistresses, and maids stayed. Actually, I am from Mumbai and I have a wish to visit Red Form from a long time ago. One of my friends Satish was staying in South Delhi, he was asking me to visit his place. I was pretty much free because of my winter vacation and that’s why I decided to visit him and gather some traveling experience. The train journey was pretty enjoyable. I was being on a train for the very first time. I was really excited. I was truly amazed to see the natural beauty of India. I loved it.  

Why Should We Visit Historic Places? We often need to visit historic places. To learn the history will enrich our knowledge and let us understand about our ancestors. Lots of historic places have really amazing beauty to explore. Some of them have so many things to learn from. If we visit such places, we will be able to learn so much about our past culture, music, architect, etc. We need to visit personally and need to inspire others for visiting such amazing places. There are lots of places to see in India. We should start exploring them.

Introduction: There are hundreds of historical places in India. We have so many options to explore. A few weeks ago, I visited a really exciting and popular place. I will share my experience in this essay. I will tell you how to go there and what to see. Why this place is so attractive?  

A Historical Place that I Visited: A few weeks ago my friend Kamal called me and asked me to spend the summer vacation in his place. I was agreed and left me on a train journey and arrived in Agra. Agra is one of the most beautiful cities in India. And we all know that it’s popular because of the Taj Mahal . Yes, I am going to share my experience of visiting the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal has a really brief history. It the time of Mughal Emperors, Shah Jahan built it to express his love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Then it has been named as ‘Taj Mahal’. My intention behind going to Agra was the Taj.

I have never been in this amazing city and never saw this historic place and that’s why I thought not to miss this chance. This beautiful architectural monument is located bank of river Yamuna. It’s one of the biggest rivers in the subcontinent. It is said that more than 20000 workers worked for 20 years to build this building. So you can imagine how big it is. I was surprised to see the artistic design in the wall and doors. It’s pretty much impossible to do in this time. This Taj is one of the best examples of Mughal architecture.  

Things to See There: There are so many things to see in the Taj. I suggest everyone be there in the afternoon. In the time of sunset, the whole scenario is unbelievable beautiful. I just loved the entire scene. It’s dreamy and loving for me. I wish to be here one time as a couple. The most important thing to see in the Taj is its architectural designs. If you understand modern architecture, you will be surprised and amazed at how it that possible to build such an amazing thing at that time.  

How to Go There from Delhi? There are so many easy ways to visit Agra from Delhi. The best way to go there is a train. I went there by train. The main railway station in Agra is Agra Cantonment (AGC). It is better to depart from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (NZM), Delhi. In the winter season, the trains are delayed due to fog problem. There are so many trains to go Agra from Delhi. You can also visit with the bus, but I suggest and prefer train due to safety causes. A journey by train is more entertaining than a bus journey.

I really enjoyed the entire journey. I was alone but made few friends on the train who were going into the same destination. I have never been on a train journey often, so it was pretty confusing and hesitating for me. But at the end of the day, the journey was amazing and super.  

Conclusion: A very big number of tourists visit this historic place every day. People from all across the world come to see this symbol of love; they come to make their love stronger with this example of real love.

My visit to a historical place paragraph : I’ve always had a desire of visiting my dream of visiting the Taj Mahal. The trip was scheduled by the school. I was extremely happy to travel to Agra and see Agra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. We traveled to Agra by bus that was coming from Delhi. Then we arrived at The Taj Mahal. It was constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of Mumtaz Mahal, his beloved wife. Twenty thousand laborers worked throughout the day and night and built the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal. I was enthralled by the Taj Mahal. Then we finally arrived at the Taj Mahal. I was awestruck by the magnificent structure. It lit up in the sun.

The white light was dazzling in the sun. The Taj was covered by trees on its sides. It is located in the middle of River Jamuna which adds to its beauty. My Joy has no limits the memories will be present in my memory, we went to some nearby locations to explore but I couldn’t stop thinking about the Taj Mahal. It was sunset when we went back to the Taj Mahal for the final time before heading back to our hotels. The moon had a slight reflection in the clear waters of Jamuna. The Dome shape appeared to touch the sky. The glowing water mode makes it look more gorgeous. The dream of me visiting the most beautiful love work was realized.

On Sunday, I went to Murshidabad the capital of Bengal under the time of Nawab rule. I was with my sister, parents, and some of my friends. We drove to the place via automobile. We left at a very early hour and reached the spot around 12 noon. Our trip was a relaxing one. We sat and gazed at the golden paddy dancing in the breeze, as well as the people from the village swimming in ponds. We arrived at one p.m. After a short time to rest, we began visiting historic sites We first went to the Hazarduari Palace, which is a magnificent structure with a thousand doors. It’s a lovely palace that has both real doors and some fake doors. There were many famous images as well as in the courts of the Nawabs and exquisite manuscripts in Persian, etc. Then we visited Katra’s mosque. Katra. It’s in disrepair. The lower half of the two towers with the sky-kissing survived the assault of the years. The next stop was Motijheel Palace. The plot to overthrow Siraj, unfortunately, took place in this palace. We then visited the home that belonged to Jagath Sheth Lal Gola, Imambara, and, of course, other historical homes of Murshidabad. Then, we went to the Khasbag in which Alibardi and Sirajudaullah pass away in eternal sleep. The tour left a lasting impression on us about the great historical site in Bengal and also the last sovereign ruler in Bengal Siraj-Ud Doullah. The trip to Murshidabad left a sad memory in my thoughts.

A few months ago, some of my buddies and I went to Murshidabad which was the capital of Bengal under the time of Nawab rule. There were six of us during the trip. On December 2, at approximately 12 a.m. We set off to go to Murshidabad starting from Howrah Railway Station. In the morning, we arrived at Murshidabad. After a rest, We began our journey to the historical sites The first stop was the Khosbag in which Alibardi and Sirajudaullah are slumbering in peace. In the Khosbag we traveled to Motijhil and discovered some of the original structures that belonged to Ghoseti Begum. Then, we visited the Hajarduari which is a magnificent palace that has one thousand doors. It’s at the same also an art gallery as well as a library, museum, and armory. There were many famous images as well as in the Courtroom of the Nawabs as well as mummies of numerous birds, as well as many valuable manuscripts written in Persian. We also visited the Mosque of Katra. It’s in disrepair. Only the lower parts of the two towers with the sky-kissing feature have escaped the ravages of time. The trip to Murshidabad has left a lasting impression on my thoughts. It made me aware of the possibility of change in things that we see. The trip to Murshidabad will be forever etched in my memory.

The school was able to arrange an educational trip to see the Taj Mahal. A bus was booked to take us to our school. Around fifteen boys were chosen to be taken to the bus. I was one of the selected ones. The bus was due to depart at 8 a.m. The students made it to the bus on time. As we arrived at the Taj Mahal, we were met with an extensive line to purchase tickets. Our teachers had made arrangements prior to our arrival via an agent, which meant we didn’t have to wait in the long line. We walked through the huge gate and got my first glimpse of the magnificent structure. I was awestruck by the stunning beauty of Marble. It is believed that the Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is located on the banks of River Yamuna. It is the tomb of Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Queen Mumtaz Mahal built inside an enormous hall. Beautiful inlay work can be observed on the tombs. The entire building is covered in beautiful trees and gardens. There are fountains that run from the main entrance all the way to the monument. In the four corners, there are four minarets. We took two hours to walk around the area. Then we headed for our bus. We were back home by 3 hours later in the day.

Agra is a great center of art and architecture. This city has the famous wonder of the world – The Taj Mahal, which was built in the memory of Shahjahan’s beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is built on the banks of river Yamuna. There are many other worth-seeing places in Agra, like the Agra Fort and the majestic palace of Akbar’s wife – Jodha Bai which is around 40 km. to the southwest of Agra in Fatehpur Sikri. Agra is a well-known historical place. Many tourists visit it every year to see the epitome of love – The Taj Mahal

Finally, we visit Khasbagh where Alibardi and Sirajudaullah died in eternal sleep. This visit left an impression on us about this great historical place of Bengal and the last independent ruler of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daullah . The visit to Murshidabad left a sad impression on my mind.

Visiting historical places such as tombs, forts, mosques, and palaces is always an interesting experience. It gives us a glimpse into life in the past. The more we try to understand them, the more we can absorb their surroundings. A visit to a historical place arouses our curiosity about history and makes us want to learn more about it.

In my opinion, visiting a religious site or some ancient ruins can help us rediscover our roots, learn about our ancestors and give us some sort of direction in our lives today. For example, when I was visiting Fatehpur Sikri near Agra with my children’s school last year while I was out with the school, I saw a beautiful mosque made of pure white marble. The design is so intricate and perfect that it can put any modern designer to shame. This visit opened my eyes and made me believe that man has developed over centuries and that we should not be afraid to accept this fact!

Importance of visiting historical places

When we visit a historical place, we understand the culture and traditional values ​​of India. We recognize how much we have inherited from our ancestors and what contribution they have made to our lives in the past. Only when we understand the value and importance of such places can we truly feel connected to them and make these traditions pass over time!

In this day and age, it is easy for someone not to care about their own rich culture because they were born into this society that has many distractions. In my opinion, visiting a historical place can make a person curious about exploring Indian culture more. In this way, it helps us become interested in our own rich culture and better understand the events of the past!

It makes me very happy to see that people from all walks of life are interested in their society and have always known what is going on around them. It is our duty as responsible citizens to educate ourselves about our roots and this can only be achieved by visiting various historical places. We shouldn’t shy away from knowing more about history because history repeats itself, which means that if we ignore it we could end up repeating the same mistakes!

In my opinion, a visit to a historical place helps us to get a glimpse of life in the past. The more we try to understand them, the more we can absorb their surroundings.

A visit to a  famous place stimulates our curiosity about history and makes us want to learn more about it. In this day and age, it is easy for someone not to care about their own rich culture because they were born into this society that has many distractions. Last month I had a chance to visit Murshidabad. My parents and uncle accompanied me to go there. It was a short journey of two days. We went there by a Tata Sumo. Murshidabad was always a place of interest to me for its historical importance. So I was very excited about the journey. When we reached the place it was afternoon. Fisrt I saw there the famous Hazarduari and the Tomb of Siraj ud-daula. Then in the next morning we visited the famous Motijhil. It was a great experience to me. I could feel the social and economic status of then Murshidabad after visiting the place. I also could feel the chapters history book 📙 in my mind’s eye. Above all it may be said that after visiting this historical place I began to love history which was a boring subject to me.

Visiting Historical Places Importance

Most people prefer to learn about a place from the school textbooks or any other place. Some see videos on the internet about historical sites. However, only a few people are interested in visiting the site by themselves. 

Visiting a historical site has a lot of benefits, and we can learn many things. Such visits can help us expand our knowledge of what we learn in school.

A historical trip can make the history of that particular place come alive and can be creative and educational. Kids and students can learn a lot of things from there and can also visualise the ancient times.

They can realize how an ancient civilization flourished, how people worked, their culture, the things they used, and many more.

Most of the historical sites are either deteriorated or completely destroyed, either due to war or any natural cause. Only the remains of a site are available and preserved.

Visiting these places will help children to understand deeply the time in which the site existed. One can understand, despite the hardships, how people survived and established their region.

Visiting a historical site can make tourists aware of what was destroyed. The historical sites contain carvings, writings, and crafts done on the walls and other things by the experts. These sites also have hidden treasures of historical importance.

Historical sites have existed for hundreds to thousands of years, and it is really a long time for a monument. How people made the buildings, how the architecture was done, how they made advancements in their civilization, and how they established, one can get to learn about it by visiting the site.

Historical sites also generate revenue for the government by attracting tourists from all over the world. Apart from it, the site also preserves the belongings of the ancient kings.

A Visit to a Historical Place Taj Mahal

If you are in India, then a visit to the historical sites would be incomplete without visiting the Taj Mahal. Also, if you stay in any corner of the world, and love to visit historical places, then the Taj Mahal is a must-visit place. 

It is one of the seven wonders of the world and is also known as “The Crown of The World”. Built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1631 to 1653, it is an immense mausoleum of white marble. More than 20000 men were put to work to complete the structure for 22 years.

It is considered a symbol of love, as Shah Jahan built it as a symbol of love for his wife, Mumtaj Mahal. It is built on the banks of the Yamuna River. The Taj Mahal is embedded in an amazing garden that has cypress trees, beautiful flowers , and even fountains in some places. 

The garden also has smooth green lawns and glowing flowers spread across it. These pretty stuffs do add to the beauty of the Taj Mahal.

The Taj Mahal is surrounded by four tall minarets made of white marble, one in each corner of the platform. From a distance, it looks small and delicate, but if we get closer to the Taj Mahal and stand near the marble steps, the dome seems so big as if it is touching the sky.

This has become a great piece of work for which our country is proud. Whenever you visit the Taj Mahal, you’ll notice that people from different parts of the world will be there to experience this wonderful place.

Each and every part of the site is very attractive, and it becomes even more beautiful in the moonlight.

A Visit to a Historical Place Murshidabad (West Bengal)

Murshidabad, a historically old place, was the capital of undivided Bengal before the British Raj. It is a rural destination home to several historical and tourist sites. It is actually a district located on the banks of river Bhagirathi. In the year 1773, the state capital was shifted from Murshidabad to Kolkata.

When we went to Murshidabad, the first place we visited was the Hazarduari Palace. As the name suggests, it is a palace with a thousand doors and was built in the year 1837 for Nawab Najim Humayun-Jah. 

We got to know that there were 114 rooms, 8 galleries, and a museum located inside the palace, and it is considered an excellent piece of architecture.

The next best attraction in Murshidabad is the Nasipur Royal Palace, which was built by the 19th-century king Kritichand Bahadur. This palace is popularly known for tax collection under British rule.

When we went there, we noticed that the palace had deteriorated and been damaged throughout the years. However, the remains of her palace have been well preserved, and hence is is one of the most popular attractions in this region.

Murshidabad’s Kathgola Palace is another amazing location in Murshidabad. This was originally the baking house of Jagat Seths, the Jain family of the region. The palace houses some rare artefacts of historical importance. One should never miss a visit to this site.

A Visit to a Historical Place Qutub Minar and Red Fort (Delhi)

A visit to a historical monument is always an exciting experience and a fascinating adventure. The Qutub Minar is one such site that has a lot to offer.

The Qutub Minar is the landmark of Delhi and one of the most prestigious monuments of Indian heritage. 

When we visited Qutub Minar, the place was already filled with visitors. One must need a tourist guide if he wants to visit the place in its entirety.

Qutub Minar is one of the tallest monumental structures in India. In the year 1119, Qutub-ud-din Aibak started its construction, but it was completed by his successor Iltutmish. It is about 72.5 m high and has 379 steps to reach the top of the tower.

Apart from Qutub Minar, there is another fascinating site located in Delhi. The Red Fort is a symbol of Mughal power and majesty. In the year 1648, the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built it, and it is completely made up of red stone. 

Located on the banks of the Yamuna river, it is one of several monumental wonders of India. Every year, on Independence Day, the Prime Minister addresses the nation from the Red Fort. 

It is a site that we usually visit, as travel and accommodations are easier for this location. Located in central Delhi, it is a monument of utmost significance for modern Indian history.

A Visit to a Historical Place Sivasagar (Assam)

Sivasagar, a region in Assam, houses a number of historical sites and monuments. During our visit to the place, we took a bus from Guwahati to Sivasagar. There are a lot of beautiful natural scenery and tea gardens on the way.

Sivasagar is a region that is known for its tea and oil industries. However, apart from it, here are some tourist spots in the area.

Sivadol, it is actually a group of monuments that house the temples of Sivadol, Visnudol, and Devidol. Some other shrines and a museum are also located in this region.

Rang Ghar is a two-storied building that was once a sports pavilion for royal kings and nobles. From Sivasagar town, we travelled for 3 km to reach the place.

Karng Ghar is also known as The Gorgaon Palace. It is located at about 15kms from the Sivasagar town, and one has to travel by either bus or local fare to reach there. Made in 1747, the palace is surrounded by a 5km long wall that is worth seeing in this region.

A Visit to a Historical Place Golden Temple (Punjab)

The Golden Temple is a wonderful holy shrine located in Amritsar, Punjab . Its original name is Sri Harmandir Sahib, but it is more popularly known as the Golden Temple. It is the holiest place in Sikhism, and when we went there, we saw thousands of Sikhs. 

Furthermore, Sikhs visit the place on a daily basis, as it is an important place for them besides being a tourist site.

Amongst the fascinating features of this temple is that it looks alluring in its golden color. It has a glittering golden dome that makes it appear so beautiful. The entire temple is a two-storey monument. 

There is also a golden leaf of about 400 kg located on the upper half of the temple. It is the architecture of the temple that gives it a beautiful look and enhances the pleasing appearance of the shrine. 

The structure looks even more beautiful at night due to the temple’s reflection on the water.

Historical places are of utmost importance to us and also to our nation. They are important not because they are a good tourist spot to generate money but because they preserve the rich cultural heritage of a region. 

Anyone who travels there learns a lot of things about the site and gets a new experience. We really had so much fun and memorable experience when we visited those sites.

Last summer, I went to a place that was really interesting because of its history. It was a place where important things happened a long time ago. The place I went to was a “historical site.” It was a museum where you could see things that people used a long time ago, like clothes, tools, and weapons. The museum also had pictures and paintings that showed what life was like back then. I learned a lot from the museum. I learned that people used to live very differently than we do now. They didn’t have phones, computers, or even cars! They had to do everything by hand, and it was much harder than it is today. I also learned about some important events that happened at the historical site. There was a big battle there a long time ago, and many people fought and died. The museum had a lot of information about the battle, and it was really interesting to learn about. My visit to the historical site was really cool. I learned a lot about history and how things used to be. I would definitely recommend visiting a historical site if you get the chance!

#2. My Visit to a Place of Historical Interest

Last weekend, I went on a really exciting trip to a place of historical interest. It was amazing to see all the cool things that happened there in the past! When we got there, we saw lots of old buildings that had been there for hundreds of years. The guide showed us around and told us about all the important events that happened in that place. We learned about famous people who lived there a long time ago, and the important things they did. We also got to see some artifacts and old objects that were used in the past. We saw old weapons, clothes, and tools that were used by the people who lived there many years ago. It was really interesting to see how people used to live and work. One of the most exciting parts of the trip was when we got to explore a castle. It was huge and had lots of rooms and secret passages. We learned about the people who used to live there and how they defended their castle from enemies. It was an amazing trip and I learned so much about history. I would definitely recommend visiting a place of historical interest to anyone who wants to learn more about the past!

4 FSU football stars go on NFL draft Day 2, making Seminoles history

Florida State has followed up on its ACC championship season with one of its most impressive NFL draft classes in program history.

Wide receiver Keon Coleman was the first pick of the second round, and three of his Seminoles teammates followed in the next 33 picks. Add in first-round pick Jared Verse on Thursday , and FSU claimed five of the top 66 picks for only the third time in program history (2013, 2015).

Coleman, unsurprisingly, had a short wait Friday night, going to the Bills with the No. 33 overall pick. In his lone season at FSU after transferring from Michigan State, he earned first-team all-ACC honors in three different spots: receiver, all-purpose player and return specialist. In addition to his receiving numbers (50 catches, 658 yards, 11 touchdowns), he amassed 300 yards on 25 punt returns as a pivotal part of an FSU team that started 13-0 and won the ACC title. He also caught the overtime touchdown at Clemson to give the ’Noles their first win over the Tigers since 2014.

Buffalo traded four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs this offseason , so Coleman — a 6-foot-3, 213-pound Louisiana native — will have the chance to become an immediate target for Josh Allen on a Super Bowl contender.

Six picks later, the Rams took their second Seminole of the draft, plucking defensive tackle Braden Fiske. He’ll continue playing alongside Verse, whom Los Angeles took with the No. 19 overall pick.

“I can’t tell you how juiced I am to come to LA and team up with my guy, Verse and wreak havoc out there on the defensive line,” Fiske said in a social media post.

Fiske, like Verse and Coleman, joined FSU as a transfer. He came from Western Michigan and rose from a second-team all-MAC performer to a third-team All-American.

The 6-foot-3, 292-pound Indiana native dominated the ACC championship triumph over Louisville with a career-high nine tackles (4 ½ for a loss) plus three sacks and two quarterback hurries. That victory secured the Seminoles’ first ACC title in nine seasons.

Fiske and Verse join a Rams roster that includes another recent transfer who clicked at FSU, outside linebacker Keir Thomas.

With the last pick of the second round, the 49ers grabbed FSU defensive back Renardo Green with the last pick of the second round (No. 64 overall). Unlike FSU’s first three draftees, he was a homegrown talent who signed with then-FSU coach Willie Taggart as a three-star recruit in 2019. Green was a two-year starter at FSU and led the conference with 13 pass breakups last season.

Two picks later, the Cardinals made FSU’s Trey Benson the draft’s second running back selected (No. 66 overall).

Benson was earned second-team all-ACC honors in both of his seasons with the Seminoles after rushing for more than 900 yards in back-to-back seasons. The Oregon transfer is the only player in FSU history to have a touchdown run of 80-plus yards and touchdown reception of 80-plus yards. His 18.2 yards per carry in a win over Virginia Tech broke the FSU single-game record held by Warrick Dunn.
