The Big Trip (2019)

Het blijft een mooi fabeltje dat baby’s worden bezorgd door ooievaars. Maar wat als er nu eens klungelige vogel tussen zit? Dat is dus het geval in The Big Trip . De ooievaar in kwestie levert een babypanda af bij een bruine beer. Hoewel het een nogal chagrijnige beer betreft, ziet hij het toch als zijn plicht om de baby bij de juiste ouders te bezorgen. Dat betekent een flinke reis, waar ook de titel van deze animatiefilm naar verwijst.

Praatgrage pelikaan

Aanvankelijk wil de bruine beer alleen op pad, maar hij heeft niet meteen door dat zijn hijgerige hazenvriendje als verstekeling meereist. Als het de haas lukt om de babypanda te laten stoppen met huilen, mag hij tot zijn eigen vreugde blijven. Het is een repeterend verhaal: de kleine panda laat zich steeds troosten door nieuwe dieren die op het pad van de reizigers verschijnen. Zo ontstaat een bont gezelschap met naast de bruine beer en de haas ook nog een praatgrage pelikaan, een dichtende tijger en een angstig wolfje.

De vreemde groep dieren wacht een aantal hindernissen tijdens The Big Trip . Is hun prille vriendschap bestand tegen de gevaren en tegenslagen? Ze zullen elkaar moeten vertrouwen, maar dat is makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. Zeker als het aan het einde van de reis nog flink spannend wordt. Zoals je mag verwachten, heeft de film gelukkig een happy end.

The Big Trip is geschreven door Billy Frolick, eerder succesvol met Madagascar en van wie binnenkort PAW Patrol: The Movie in première gaat. De productie is overigens grotendeels in Russische handen; de film is oorspronkelijk ook in het Russisch ingesproken. Daar merk je als Nederlandse kijker weinig van aangezien de film is voorzien van onze eigen taal, maar ik vond het best opmerkelijk. Ook opvallend: na Rusland bracht de film het meeste geld op in de bioscopen van… Nederland.

Door de speurtocht naar de ouders van de babypanda én de combinatie van de bruine beer en de haas deed deze film mij heel erg denken aan Ice Age , waarin een mammoet en een luiaard een baby proberen terug te bezorgen bij zijn stam. Het niveau van die klassieker haalt The Big Trip helaas niet. Hoewel dus van de schrijver van Madagascar , moet ik zeggen dat ik het verhaal niet heel bijzonder vond. Het plot is erg simpel, al vergoedt de humor gelukkig veel. Ik moest bijvoorbeeld herhaaldelijk lachen om het wolfje dat in spannende situaties steeds verstijft en omvalt.

Special Delivery

Qua waardering zou ik zeggen: vanuit het oogpunt van volwassenen 2 sterren en door een kinderbril gezien 3 sterren. Mijn kinderen hebben deze film in iedere geval met plezier bekeken. Oh, en er komt trouwens een vervolg aan. The Big Trip: Special Delivery wordt naar verwachting in oktober 2021 uitgebracht. Gezien het succes van deel 1 zal deze ongetwijfeld in de Nederlandse bioscopen te zien zijn.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - —  Offensive lineman Troy Fautanu  was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of Thursday's  NFL Draft in Detroit.

Fautanu was drafted No. 20 overall,  one of Pittsburgh's seven picks  in this year's draft.

Within hours of being taken by his new team, Fautanu was in Pittsburgh, taking in the sights and sounds of his new home.

On Saturday, Fautanu began his tour of the Steel City with a stop at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh to have fun with a few lucky kids!

UNC Basketball: Elite Center Now Planning Trip to Chapel Hill

UNC basketball may be one step closer to finally fulfilling its goal of landing a transfer big man.

It’s no secret that head coach Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have set out to reel in a top transfer to play in the post next season. After being linked to names such as Oumar Ballo, Aaron Bradshaw, Danny Wolf, and Jonas Aidoo, it was clear Davis and the Tar Heel crew had an offseason goal.

But while the Tar Heels have struck out on many of those transfer targets, they may be gaining the inside track on landing one of the best remaining big men in the transfer portal.

On Friday, 247Sports reported that the Tar Heels had secured a visit with Rutgers transfer big Clifford Omoruyi, with the visit tentatively scheduled for the beginning of May.

UNC has been linked to Omoruyi in recent weeks and appeared in his top 12. However, it had appeared that the Tar Heels may have fallen behind in the race after the top-shelf transfer scheduled visits with Alabama and Kansas State.

That doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, with Omoruyi now set to add UNC to that list.

The 6-foot-11, 240-pound senior played four seasons at Rutgers, starting 101 of the 124 games he played with the Scarlet Knights. Across 32 games as a senior, Omoruyi averaged 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks while earning a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team for the second year in a row.

He currently ranks No. 8 overall among the nation's transfer, according to the 247Sports portal rankings, and would fill a massive hole left in Chapel Hill by the departure of five-year starting center Armando Bacot.

With the school’s all-time leading rebounder having exhausted eligibility, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball staff have been searching for a physical force inside to pair with Jalen Washington down low.

Clifford Omoruyi’s ability to rebound and block shots at a high level would be a perfect fit in Chapel Hill to complement one of the best returning rosters in the country.

This is the time of year where youngsters in high school prepare to ask or receive this question as they attend their junior or senior prom. The night is filled with glitz and glam complete with music, dancing and, most importantly, many memories to cherish for years to come.

Prom is a photo savvy function and has certainly evolved over the years. It's not uncommon to see teens nowadays with airplanes, Teslas, or even horses as accessories. Be a part of birding’s biggest team! Global Big Day is an annual celebration of the birds around you. No matter where you are, join us virtually on 11 May, help celebrate World Migratory Bird Day , and share the birds you find with eBird.

Participating is easy—you can even be part of Global Big Day from home. If you can spare 5 or 10 minutes, report your bird observations to eBird online or with our free eBird Mobile app . If you have more time, submit several checklists of birds throughout the day. You never know what you might spot. Your observations help us better understand global bird populations through products like these animated abundance maps brought to you by eBird Science.

Last year, Global Big Day collected more data about birds on a single day than ever before. More than 58,000 people gathered 3.2 million bird observations on 148,000 checklists, setting new world records for a single day of birding. Will you help us make this the year we surpass 150,000 checklists on a single day?

A total of 401 species were recorded and 15,137 checklists were submitted by an incredible 9,533 eBirders in Canada – the second highest number of eBirders and checklists submitted in the world! You can explore all of the Canadian 2023 Global Big Day stats here .

How to participate

• Get an eBird account: eBird is a worldwide bird checklist program used by millions of birders. It’s what allows us to compile everyone’s reports into a single massive Global Big Day list—while at the same time collecting data to help scientists better understand birds. Sign up here. It’s 100% free from start to finish.
• Enjoy birds on 11 May: It’s that simple. You don’t need to be a bird expert or go out all day long, even 10 minutes of birding from home counts. Global Big Day runs from midnight to midnight in your local time zone. You can report what you find from anywhere in the world.
• Enter what you see and hear in eBird: You can enter your sightings via our website or download the free eBird Mobile app   to make submitting lists even easier. Please enter your checklists before 14 May to be included in our initial results announcement.
• Watch the results roll in: During the day, follow along with bird observations from more than 200 countries in real-time on our Global Big Day page .

eBird Trip Reports on Global Big Day

eBird Trip Reports are a great way to share where you went and the birds you found on Global Big Day. Simply create an eBird Trip Report for 11 May 2024. As you submit lists and upload media throughout the big day, they’ll be added to your report automatically. Send the trip report link to friends and family so they can follow along. • Use eBird Mobile Explore to find recently reported species or new places to go birding nearby.
• Take photos and sound recordings and add them to your checklist —they might end up on the Global Big Day page!
• Make your sightings more valuable:  submit complete checklists ,  keep counts of the birds that you see, and keep multiple checklists throughout the day.
• Share what you’re seeing on social media with #GlobalBigDay !
