Adaptive cruise control supplements conventional cruise control with an active vehicle-to-vehicle distance control feature. Designed for use on freeways and express ways, in vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, your car automatically accelerates or decelerates in order to maintain a preset following distance from the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you.

To activate the system, press the "ON/OFF" button at the end of the stalk on the lower end of the right side of the steering wheel. The radar-ready indicator will appear in the Multi Information Display.

Accelerate or decelerate to your intended speed, then press the stalk down to set it. If you want to go faster, push the stalk upward and hold until you've reached the desired speed and then release it. Or, if you want to slow down, push the stalk down and hold as you decelerate, then release it once you've reached the desired speed.

To cancel cruise control, tap the brakes, pull the stalk towards you or turn the system off with the ON/OFF button.

Adaptive Cruise Control was designed to maintain the preset distance between your car and the car driving in the same lane directly ahead of you.

When it’s active, it automatically adjusts for changes in the speed of the vehicle traveling directly ahead of you in order to maintain the vehicle-to-vehicle distance you set.

In the event that you would like to change the preset distance between vehicles, you can do so by using the radar range button located on the lower right side of the steering wheel. Simply press the button repeatedly to cycle through the ranges available. You'll find them displayed on the Multi Information Display. And finally, you can disable the distance holding feature by pushing the cruise control stalk away and holding it until the indicator disappears and the conventional cruise control indicator lights up.

Into + 2007 Cruise Control Problem

  • Add to quote

My first post on this great forum. I just bought a loaded 2007 Avalon LTD (1,864 miles @ $25,000!) and am impressed with the car to no end. Everything seems to work flawlessly, even though the NAV system takes some getting used to. But the cruise control seems to have a problem. When I turn the cruise control on as I would with any other car, the green "Cruise" light on the dash flashes on as does a red light. When the accelerator is released, the car simply slows down: no cruise control. Except once when the cruise control kicked in after the car slowed about 10 mph. I'm wondering if some of the other electronic gadgetry is at play (Dynamic Laser, VSC and TRAC) or if it's just a glitch that warrants a trip to the dealership. To me, the car is perfect in so many ways I'm thinking I must be doing something wrong!

You probaably know this already, but here is how to engage cruise: Press button in on stalk - observe green light. Tap stalk down to set speed. Tap up or down to adjust set speed. Pull stalk toward you to cancel.

Yep, that's what I've been doing.

cruise control 4runner 2007

If your car comes with laser cruise, and that's what you have engaged when it 'fails' - you should know that it doesn't work well in rainy conditions nor when there's sunlight directly hitting the laser receiver (early morning, late evening). One other thing you can try is to clean the lens for the laser. It's located next to the fog lamp on the passenger side. Good luck!

cruise control 4runner 2007

The laser cruise also has a standard cruise function. Turn cruise on. (It automatically goes to laser cruise.) Before doing anything else push stalk towards dash. This puts you into standard, non laser, cruise mode. Set speed. If this doesn't work then I'd say you have a problem with the whole cruise control module. If it does work then you probably have an issue with the laser portion. They can get damaged by road debris hitting the laser emmiter on the front of the car. MikeS. 05 Avalon LTD.

Loss of control, B735 on approach to Moscow-Vnukovo

Loss of control, B735 on approach to Moscow-Vnukovo. UTair flight UT588 from Krasnodar to Moscow, Russia, reportedly suffered a loss of control incident while on approach to Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport.  Unconfirmed reports from Russian aviation sources suggest that the aircraft was on approach to runway 06 when a situation developed where the aircraft attained a pitch attitude of +45 degrees.

The aircraft rolled 33 degrees to the right, then -34.8 to the left. The pitch supposedly decreased to 30 with the speed dropping to 60 KIAS.

The aircraft is then thought to have rolled 96 degrees to the right, pitching -14 degrees (nose down).

It then banked 45 degrees to the left with speed increasing to 150 KIAS. The flight crew then regained control and reported to ATC that they were going around because the approach was unstabilised.

The crew positioned the aircraft for another approach and proceeded for a landing at 06:35 UTC, about 18 minutes after the event.

The aircraft was still on the ground at Vnukovo, eleven days after the event.
