Thomas Partey ‘very close’ to Arsenal injury return, says Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta says that Arsenal need to “nail” exactly when Thomas Partey is ready to compete before he will reintroduce him from injury.
The Ghanaian midfielder has been out since October after undergoing thigh surgery but suffered a setback in his recovery last month.
He trained with the first-team before the first-leg defeat to Porto on Wednesday but did not travel with the squad and Arteta did not confirm whether he will be involved against Newcastle .

“Let’s see. We have another session today,” Arteta said. “He’s been out for many, many months now. We need to really nail the timing of when he has enough in the tank to compete. But I think he’s very close.”
He confirmed that Gabriel Jesus is in a similar situation having aggravated his knee and that Oleksandr Zinchenko is not far away from returning having been out since going off at half-time against Liverpool .
Takehiro Tomiyasu is sidelined with another calf injury but long-term absentee Jurrien Timber could still play a part before the end of the season.
“I really hope so. He’s doing really well,” he said. “He’s been with some players on the pitch. He’s going to start to do some bits with us on the pitch in the next week or so.
“Then we’ll have to see how he’s doing, his confidence level, his fitness level. Hopefully the answer will be yes.”
With several prominent players missing for large chunks, Arteta is hopeful that he will soon have the biggest squad at his disposal as he has all season.
“Obviously we have missed some big players and we still are. You have to adapt to that.
“We want them back, we need them back and we need them as quick as possible.
“We know the impact that those players will have when we have the full squad ready.”

Arsenal’s plans and route map for possible Premier League trophy parade confirmed
Share this with
Arsenal have confirmed they will stage a Premier League trophy parade, should their season end in glory with a first title in 20 years.
The Gunners have been in scintillating form since January, winning all but two of their matches with performances that have displayed all the hallmarks of champions.
Unfortunately for Mikel Arteta ’s side, they are up against Pep Guardiola ’s relentless winning machine who stand on the brink of an unprecedented fourth Premier League title win in succession.
Even Arsenal’s midfield talisman Declan Rice confessed he was hoping for a miracle following his man of the match display against Bournemouth last weekend.
He said: ‘I wasn’t here last year but I can sense that we are embracing it. Man City are a machine and they don’t lose many. Anything can happen in football.
‘Surprises can happen and miracles can happen and we just have to stay focused.’
How can Arsenal still win the Premier League title
In order for Arsenal to finish above City, they will require a favour from one of the three remaining teams the reigning champions are set to face over the course of the next week.
City currently trail Arsenal by a solitary point but, crucially, have a game in-hand.
Craven Cottage plays host to Saturday’s early kick-off between Fulham and Guardiola’s men, before City travel to Arsenal’s fiercest rivals Tottenham on Tuesday.
Arsenal & Man City's remaining games
ARSENAL Man Utd (a) May 12 Everton (h) May 19
MAN CITY Fulham (a), May 11 Spurs (a) May 14 West Ham (h) May 19
City are back on home turf on the final day when they welcome West Ham to the Etihad in what will represent David Moyes’ last match in charge of the Hammers.
Arsenal, meanwhile, only have two games left, starting with a trip to Old Trafford on Sunday, before hosting Everton on May 19 at the Emirates.
One factor currently in Arsenal’s favour is their superior goal difference. They are currently six goals better off than City, so if Pep’s men were to draw one of their last two matches, Arsenal would almost certainly take the title were the teams to finish level on points.
When and where will Arsenal’s trophy parade be?
The parade is set to begin at 17.00 outside the Emirates Stadium and will make its way through the streets of Islington and will cause the closure of Holloway Road from 16.00 onwards.
The parade will arrive back at the Emirates at around 20.00 where the players will appear on the podium on top of The Armoury store on Hornsey Road.
While some might accuse Arsenal of acting in wildly optimistic fashion, it is a requirement, due to the potential planned road closures, to give police and local authorities as much notice as possible.
Arsenal were ridiculed back in 2006 when pictures of the bus that was set to travel through the streets of Islington carrying the club’s would be Champions League heroes was leaked.
On that occasion the bus never saw the light of day after Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Barcelona. The Gunners will hope to avoid a similar scenario, but should they emerge victorious a celebration will take place on Monday, May 20.

Man United vs. Arsenal prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Premier League match
A rsenal will hope to keep pace at the top of the Premier League table as they travel north to visit Old Trafford for a meeting with Manchester United on Monday (AEST).
The Gunners came into the weekend a point ahead of Man City in the standings, but the defending champions hold a game in hand and thus have one hand on the trophy. Arsenal have just two more games with which to leap their rivals, as time is running out.
Their slip against Aston Villa in mid-April may prove costly, but to Arsenal's credit they have recovered well and done their best to nip at Man City's heels down the stretch. They have won three straight since that defeat by a combined 7-2 score, including an impressive 3-0 win over an in-form Bournemouth last time out.

The opposite is the case for Man United, whose season is spiraling out of control at the end, seeing a European place slip away and leaving them eighth in the standings. They have just one win in their last seven league games since the March international break, and the 4-0 pasting by Crystal Palace last time out left Erik ten Hag out of ideas on how to drag this patchwork Red Devils squad to the finish line.

Man United vs Arsenal prediction, odds
- Moneyline lean: Arsenal (1.37)
- Score prediction: Man United 0-3 Arsenal
Manchester United have never been more vulnerable, disorganised, and off course than they are right now, having already confirmed their worst-ever Premier League finish with two matches still to go. The Red Devils are laden with injuries in defence, and completely out of form in the attack.
Arsenal are in a complete opposite position, laser-focused on their slim odds in the title race. The Gunners may not be destined for the top spot at the end of the season, but they are giving themselves the best possible chance to pounce if Man City slip.
