Day 3: Fly to Aswan

4 days in Egypt

Enjoy Breakfast, then continue your 4 days in Egypt by exploring the tourist attractions of Aswan.

The Unfinished Obelisk : is situated in the north of Aswan. It was sculpted by order of Queen Hatshepsut in a granite quarry erected at the Karnak Temple entrance in Luxor . That Unfinished Obelisk teaches us how obelisks were carved in ancient Egypt. It is 42 meters high and weighs 1,200 tons. At some point, cracks appeared in the rock, so it was abandoned.

Abu Simbel: is one of the most famous archaeological sites in Egypt, forming part of the Open Air Museum of Nubia and Aswan ( World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1979), which took about twenty years to build, being completed around 1265 BC. This site was excavated in the rock, during the reign of Ramses II (13th century BC), in honor of him and his wife Nefertari, for the victory of the battle of Kadesh and as a symbol of power before the Nubian people. The site comprises two temples: the “great temple” dedicated to Ramses II and the “minor temple” dedicated to his wife, Nefertari.

Philae Temple  was built on a rocky island dedicated to the goddess Isis (goddess of love in ancient Egypt). According to legend, the god Osiris was killed by the god Set (god of evil in ancient Egypt), then he was resurrected to life by the tears of his wife, the goddess Isis, who took refuge on the Island of Philae. The Philae Temple was saved from the water of the Nile after the construction of the Aswan High Dam and was transferred to Ejelica Island by UNESCO between 1964 and 1968.

Egypt, called “the cradle of civilization,” has the most extended history of any country in the world. Transportation on a trip to Egypt

As you have seen when designing your trip route through Egypt, you must move around the country in many ways. The fastest way and not always the most expensive is by plane, and you will find airports in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada, and Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. When traveling long distances, such as from Cairo to Aswan or from Cairo to Luxor, you could take the opportunity to sleep during the journey by sleeper train” Night train” in Egypt. To move within the cities, you can take taxis, but it is much more comfortable to use the Uber or Careem application, which works well in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and Hurghada and is very cheap.

After this information and knowing the average cost of the trip to Egypt, you can book one of our pre-customized Egypt vacation packages to visit the most significant temples & pyramids of ancient Egypt.

Four days in Cairo can provide a solid introduction to the city’s rich history and culture, but it won’t allow you to explore every nook and cranny. Day 1: giza pyramids.

4 Days in Egypt

Go to the Great Pyramid of Giza to start your trip. You would, of course. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only Ancient Wonder still standing today, and the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure stand next to them.

Many tombs, monuments, and cemeteries from ancient Egypt, such as the Tomb of Queen Khentkaus and the ruins of a once-bustling workers’ community. Ride a horse or take a carriage pulled by a team of horses to get the best view of the Great Sphinx.

After a fun morning learning about ancient Egypt, visit Abou Shakra for traditional Egyptian food. It has a beautiful view of the pyramids and a long list of traditional Egyptian dishes.

After a short nap and tea, it’s time to visit the Egyptian Museum . Take a taxi downtown. Most of them are around Tahrir Square. The museum opened in 1835, and over 120,000 Egyptian artifacts were put there over time. Stay a little longer downtown. Walk along the Nile on the Qasr El Nile Bridge and get fresh air and a hummus drink.

Day 2: Cairo Citadel and Khan Al-Khalili

egypt tour 4 days

Day 3: One-day tour in Luxor

Valley of the kings.

Start your tour of the Valley of the Kings with the Tombs of the Pharaohs of the New Kingdom.

Colossi of Memnon

See the Colossi of Memnon , two colossal statues of Amenophis III facing the Nile. Three thousand four hundred years ago, on the west bank of the Nile, there were two colossal statues of Amenophis II. Figures show the pharaoh kneeling with his hands clasped together as he looks at the rising sun. Each figure is 18 meters high and weighs 1,300 tons.

Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari

egypt tour 4 days

The design of the mortuary temple of Hatshepsut is unlike any other. It usually has three levels of huge terraces, the main one carved into the side of a mountain. This temple is a place to honor the god Amun Ra.

Hatshepsut must be known as one of the most important rulers of Egypt because she came to power upon the death of Thutmose II. The next stop is the Valley of the Queens, where the royal women and wives of the pharaoh are buried.

Luxor Temple

The next excursion is the Luxor Temple , where you can see the granite sculptures of Ramses the Great, the East Bank, and Karnak .

Temple of Karnak

Then continue to Karnak, a group of temples built over many dynasties. From Sphinx Avenue, you can go to the unfinished Obelisk, the Hypostyle Hall with its vast 134 columns, the obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Thutmose III, the Temple of Amun decorated with lotus and papyrus motifs.

Day 4: Fly to Aswan

4 Days in Egypt

Spend time in Aswan during the second half of your four-day trip to Egypt.

The Unfinished Obelisk

Unfinished Obelisk located north of Aswan. And Queen Hatshepsut demanded it is built in a granite quarry in the Luxor Temple in Karnak.

The method of carving the Obelisk shows how skillful the ancient Egyptians were. It weighs 1,200 tons and is 42 meters high. At some point, the boulder began to collapse, and it was left alone.

Abu Simbel is an integral part of Egyptian history. The building is part of the Open Air Museum of Nubia and Aswan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. It was built around 1265 BC.

Ramesses II (13th century BC) carved this building out of the rock to honor his and Nefertari’s victory at the Battle of Kadesh and to show the Nubians that Egypt was in charge. There are two temples there, and Nefertari, married to Ramesses II, had a smaller temple built in her honor.

Philae Temple

egypt tour 4 days

On a rocky island was Philae Temple , a temple of the goddess Isis (the goddess of love in ancient Egypt). Set was an ancient Egyptian deity who represented terrible things.

Set is said to have killed Osiris, but his wife, the goddess Isis, shed tears that brought him back to life. Isis took refuge on the island of Philae. After the construction of the High Dam in Aswan, the Philae temple was safe from the rising waters of the Nile. Between 1964 and 1968, UNESCO transferred it to the island of Anjelica.

Temple of Kom Ombo

Then head to the city of Kom Ombo in the Aswan Governorate in Upper Egypt to see the impressive Kom Ombo Temple, which consists of two temples. It was built during the Ptolemies (180-47 BC), and the Romans added to it over time.

After four days of sightseeing in Egypt, you will be transferred to Cairo International Airport or Aswan International Airport to catch your flight home.

Our Client Reviews

Frequent questions & answers.

Below are some of the frequently asked questions and their answers, we hope you find what you are looking for. If you didn’t find what you are looking for, then send us a message and we will find the answer for you.

Is Egypt safe to visit?

Egypt is very safe to visit and the police, tourist police, and army are in prominence wherever you go, giving you the knowledge that you are secure in your surroundings. Egypt prides itself on its high safety record for tourists and will do all it can to maintain this.

How do I get my tourist visa?

Usually you need to apply to your local Egyptian Embassy or Consulate General for a pre-entry tourist visa but if you are from North America, Western Europe, Australia/New Zealand, Brazil/Argentina or Hong Kong/Japan/Macau/Malaysia or Singapore you can get your tourist visa upon arrival in Egypt.

What to see in Egypt in 4 days?

Egypt tours are mostly comprehensive tours, usually lasting between two days and three days per city. So you will get packages designed to explore different cities without any inconvenience. To know what to see in Egypt in four days in case you do not want to start in Cairo, we have prepared an itinerary according to your requirement; where you could start your tour of Egypt in 4 days by Aswan, Luxor or and destinations you prefer Luckily for you, here I have prepared a super guide to travel to Egypt, which includes things to see, both typical and not so typical, 4 days Egypt tour itinerary, plus lots of tips that will help you plan your visit more easily. All you have to do now is to book to get your seat in the land of wonders.

How do I get my tourist visa if I live in a different country to that of my passport?

If you hold a residence permit in the country you live in you can apply to the Egyptian Embassy/Consulate General in that country, otherwise you have to apply to the country that issued your passport.

I am staying in a resort in the Sinai; can I visit Cairo or Luxor?

Though many nationalities are exempt from requiring a visa for the many Sinai resorts, a full tourist visa is required if you come to any place in Egypt that lies to the west of the Red Sea/Suez Canal.

I am staying in a resort in Hurghada, can I visit Cairo or Luxor?

Though many nationalities are exempt from requiring a visa for staying in Hurghada, once you leave the confines of the town a full tourist visa is required.

I am going to visit Jordan and/or Israel; will I require a visa when coming back to Egypt?

Yes, as soon as you leave Egypt your visa will be stamped and so you will require another one. If you are from a country that can get their visa upon arrival in Egypt, you can get the new one when you re-enter the country, but if you require a pre-entry visa you should apply for 2 of these, using the second one when you re-enter Egypt.

Can my tourist visa be extended to more than one month?

A tourist visa can be extended if required. To do this you have to apply to Mogamma, in Tahrir Square, or to the equivalent offices in Alexandria, Luxor or Sharm El-Sheikh

What is the difference between a 5 star and a 5 star deluxe hotel/cruise?

The star ratings get higher as the facilities and overall standard of the accommodation gets better and so it is easier to imagine 5 star deluxe (or any suffix added to 5 star) as being 6 star

Why am I being advised to stay in a hotel close to the pyramids rather than in Downtown?

If you are only in Cairo for a few days it is a lot easier for you to see the sites starting from a base in Giza. The traffic from downtown to the pyramids can cause the journey to take over an hour, which means an early start if you want a full day’s experience, especially if you require to enter the Great Pyramid, when you have to be at the plateau before 0800. If you are in Cairo for a while, the Hotels at the Pyramids are all on a resort basis, built in acres of land with outdoor swimming pools and relaxing areas, something which Downtown hotels cannot really provide. This is why you tend to find that the Downtown hotels are built like towers; very tall and narrow, while Giza Pyramid hotels are limited in height, but cover more ground.

Cost also comes into the equation as a simple 4 star Hotel in the Downtown area is more than often more expensive than a 5 star resort in the Pyramids area. Cairo is like most major cities in the world in this regard as city centre property is a lot more expensive. Though it may appear that Downtown hotels do afford the luxury of being able to wander around the area for shopping and restaurants, etc. most of the Pyramid hotels offer free shuttle buses to allow you to do the same, plus taxis are not expensive and will still work out cheaper in the end.

What are the differences between Bed and Breakfast, half board, full board and all inclusive?

Bed and breakfast means that only breakfast is supplied. Half board means that breakfast and dinner are supplied Full board has all meals supplied (breakfast, lunch and dinner) All inclusive means that all meals and drinks are supplied; some hotels also supply alcohol. This latter point should be checked when making the booking.

Do I have to stay in my hotel after the day’s tour has ended?

No, definitely not, and we would encourage you to go out and enjoy the culture of Egypt. Many packages are full board, which tends to make people think they have to stay imprisoned in their hotel, but the sights and sounds of Cairo, especially, are too great to be missed. Why stay in the same hotel, with the same faces, when you could go out and have your dinner on a cruise boat sailing around Zamalek Island, accompanied by either a belly dancer or a Whirling Dervish; or sometimes both. This is your holiday, so enjoy every minute and get out and explore.

I have some expensive items which I do not want to leave lying in my room/cabin, what should I do?

All Hotels and Cruises have safety deposit boxes, sometimes even in your room/cabin. All you need do is ask at reception and they will give you instructions on how to use them, or will safely put away your valuables until you need them.

Where is the main bus depot in Cairo?

The main bus depot is called Cairo Gateway (El Torgoman) bus station and is situated just off the city centre. Any taxi will be able to take you there.

Where do I get the bus in Luxor?

The bus station in Luxor is situated behind the Luxor Temple.

Where do I get the bus in Hurghada?

The bus station is situated in Hurghada town centre.

Where do I get the bus in Sharm El-Sheikh?

The bus station is on the outskirts of the town on Freedom Road. You will require a taxi to get there, though many hotels do have shuttle buses which can do this.

Can I get tickets for the sleeper train service online and if not, how do I order them?

There is no online facility for this but you can order them by telephone. Call El Watania on +20225749474 or +20225749274, or fax them on +20225749074. You will be given a booking reference and you can pay and pick the tickets up at Cairo station at least 24 hours before departure.

How do I get from Hurghada to Aswan?

Many travel books mention the road and bus service between these two towns, but these are not advised for tourists and the buses will often refuse admittance. The advised route is to get the bus to Luxor and then the train to Aswan.

Can tourists use the Cairo/Luxor or Luxor/Cairo bus service?

Though these buses are air-conditioned and are good to use, tourists are advised not to and will be very lucky to either obtain a ticket or even be allowed to board the bus. This journey, for tourists, is restricted to trains or flight.

Can I just turn up at the bus station and buy a ticket?

You can, but you are advised to get your tickets at least 24 hours before travel, if possible. If you wait until the last minute you may find that you cannot get seats that are next to one another, or they may even be at separate ends of the bus. Not a good idea if you have children with you.

Can I hire a car in Cairo?

Car hire is available and many of the world’s major car hire companies are in Cairo. Car hire is NOT advised for those who have not been to Egypt before and therefore do not understand the level of driving employed by Egyptians.

Is it safe to drive in Egypt?

Unless you are used to the way that Egyptians drive, it is not advised to attempt this. Lane etiquette is unknown, cars will cut across you to make a turn, and the use of lights during the night is very seldom done. Though some road signs are in English and Arabic, the majority are in Arabic alone and there are simply not any good road maps, especially town ones.

I am on a tight budget so to save money is it okay to hitchhike between towns?

NO!! If you were to do this you could find yourself paying more for the ride than the fare by bus/train would have been.

Can I hire a bicycle to visit the West Bank at Luxor?

Yes, there are many places that will allow this but before you do so please remember a couple of very important things:

1/ as the day progresses so does the heat, so by the early afternoon it can be exceedingly uncomfortable. Do you really want to be cycling for miles in this, with very little chance of shade? This is especially important for children, who will tire a lot as the day progresses because of the heat.

2/ there are no cycle lanes and so you are sharing the roads with all other forms of vehicular traffic, which is not the best thing to experience. Many cyclists have been injured because of other road users not noticing them.

Can I get to Egypt by ferry boat from Europe?

Sadly the links between Alexandria (and Port Said) and other Mediterranean ports are not available right now due to the ongoing problems in Palestine and Israel. It is hoped that these will be resumed in the not too distant future. Commercial ferries are available, some of which carry passengers, but you would need to contact the relevant port authority for information on these.

How do I get to Abu Simbel?

Abu Simbel can be reached by flight, which is the easiest and most convenient method taking about 4 hours for the round trip and visit, or there are 2 police controlled bus convoys that leave Aswan at 0400 and 1130 that take about 9 hours for the round trip and visit.

Can I get to Esna or Kom Ombo without having to get a cruise?

You can visit either of these sites by taking the train, getting off at the relevant station and then getting a taxi, or by hiring a taxi or private driven car to take you to them (from Luxor or Aswan).

Can I get a cruise from Cairo to Luxor/Aswan?

Though movies like “Death on the Nile” show people using this cruise, it has not been possible to cover this route since the late 1990’s. Flight or train are the only ways to get from Cairo to Luxor or Aswan nowadays.

Can I go inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops)?

Yes, but ticket sales for this are restricted to 300 people per day; 150 at 0800 and the other 150 at 1500. Tickets for this can only be bought at the main entrance, not the entrance close to the Sphinx. As tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis it is advised to get to the office as soon as possible as buses will arrive at opening times and they tend to get the majority of the tickets. If you can spare the time, try for the tickets in the morning, and if you are not successful you can be first in line for the afternoon tickets.

Can I go inside the Pyramids of Khafre (Chephren) and/or Menkaure (Mycerinus)?

There is no restriction on these sales but only one of them is open at a time, they are changed to allow for them to breathe, dispersing the high levels of carbon dioxide levels that tend to accumulate inside. Tickets are available at the main entrance to the site.

Can I take photographs inside the tombs?

No, photography inside tombs, including the pyramids and Abu Simbel, is strictly forbidden, which has led to all cameras being banned from the Valley of the Kings (you have to leave all cameras at the x-ray point at the second entrance). Excessive flash damages the paintwork inside the tombs and so, because of people who ignore the rules, measures have been implemented to safeguard these ancient works of art. The simple rule of thumb when visiting sites is: no cameras inside, cameras are okay outside.

I notice that the same sites seem to be repeated in every package tour program I see, are these the only sites available for tourists to see?

Though most companies will use the same sites for their packages, this is mainly because the majority of visitors are experiencing Egypt for the first time and so these are the “must see” sites. Egypt has literally hundreds of ancient sites which can be visited and it only takes a request for them to be explored.

Do I need to take anti-malaria tablets/injections?

NO!! Malaria has not been in Egypt for well over 85 years and there is no need for any type of anti-malaria medication. To be honest, it is quite the obverse as any types of anti-malaria medication can actually cause side effects that will simply ruin your holiday. Just because Egypt is in Africa does not mean malaria is here as well.

Can I bring prescribed medication with me?

Yes, but please ensure that you only bring enough for your stay, with just a few day’s extra supply as a back-up. It would also help if you could bring the prescription as well, as proof, or for topping up (there are many pharmacies in Egypt that can do this for you). If you happen to be travelling onwards from Egypt, and so have a lot more of your prescribed medicine with you, please ensure that you do have the prescription as proof.

Is it safe to drink the water in Egypt?

Yes, but not advised! Egyptian water has a high chlorine level in it which can upset the microbes in your stomach, causing diarrhoea. For drinking purposes it is far safer to stick with bottled water, ensuring the seal is intact before drinking it.

Is it safe to brush my teeth with tap water?

Egyptian water is highly chlorinated, not poisonous, and so it is perfectly safe to do this. You often swallow small amounts of water whilst in the shower, or swimming, and this causes no problems, so why should cleaning your teeth?

How should I dress for entering a mosque (male)?

Protocol does ask for men to wear long trousers as opposed to shorts, though Egyptians are used to the latter being worn and so say nothing, or little, if it occurs.

How should I dress for entering a mosque (female)?

Protocol does ask for women to cover bare skin as much as possible and so shoulders, especially, should be covered and a simple scarf will suffice. Again, it is advised to wear long trousers, or skirts, as legs should also be covered. Heads do not need to be covered, despite what some tourist books say, though it is a sign of respect if you do this.

What clothes should I wear on the cruise?

You may wear whatever you like on-board the cruise but you are asked to dress for dinner. Casual but neat is acceptable, you do not have to dress formally. Swimwear is not acceptable.

What clothes should I wear walking around towns?

When walking around the towns, dress as you would for a hot summer’s day back home. Shorts and t-shirts are actually worn by many locals.

What clothes should I wear when visiting sites?

This really depends on which site you are visiting and at what time of the day. Some offer little shade and so you should ensure that you do not have too much skin available for the sun to burn (the Giza Pyramids, in the afternoon, is a prime example of this). Temples are well shaded so you do not have to cover so much, but remember that even though they are shaded well, tombs tend to accumulate the heat from the sun as well as the many visitors, so try to wear something lightweight in them, especially cotton fabrics. Though many people like to wear open toed sandals, please note that many of the floors are exceedingly uneven and so it can be easy to stub your toes. Ladies, please do not wear high heels; not only can you easily break them, they can also become trapped between the large stones in flooring, and you will also find you will tend to slip and slide on the stone. High heels and sand are not the best partners either as the heels will sink in (you may laugh, but many ladies do insist in wearing high heels).

Is it safe for women to travel alone?

Many women travel alone and have found that they have been safe. The police, tourist police and army are always close by and the Egyptians themselves are generally safe and will try to protect solo travellers. On the whole, it is generally safer for a solo female traveller in Egypt than places like Greece, Italy or Spain.

Although the chances of being confronted are almost negligible, please ensure that you take the same precautions that you would anywhere else and do not be tempted to walk in deserted areas alone: get a taxi back to your abode! You may receive some invitations, which on the whole are innocent, do not accept any of these from strangers.

Do women have to cover arms/shoulders/legs when walking around the cities/towns?

This is a tourist book fallacy. Women walking around these towns can do so as if they were walking around their home towns in the summer. You will be amazed at how many of the local women dress like this as well, looking more like tourists than Egyptian.

Can I use my credit/debit cards easily?

Yes. Most places accept these nowadays, including all decent Hotels and Cruises. You are advised to carry cash when shopping in the many street markets (souks) though the larger malls, and street shops, can accept plastic.

Are there plenty of ATM’s?

Almost every bank has an ATM outside it, or just inside the front doors, and you will normally find that they are guarded by a policeman. Many shopping malls have stand-alone ATM’s and you can also find them located along a busy pavement (sidewalk), or where two busy pavements meet. Airports and railway stations also have ATM’s as do the larger tour company offices.

What voltage does Egypt have, and what kind of plugs?

Egypt has a voltage supply of 220V and the plugs are the 2 round pin type that are common throughout Europe (except the UK).

Can you purchase alcohol in Egypt?

Yes, alcohol is available in Egypt, either in the better hotels, higher class restaurants and cafes, pubs, and beer gardens. You will also find off licences as well. Please note though, it is illegal to drink alcohol in the streets in Egypt, so do not walk around with a can of your favourite tipple.

Are there restrictions about bringing alcohol into the country?

Yes, you are only allowed to bring in 2 litres with you.

What is the legal drinking age in Egypt?

The legal drinking age is 21.

FAQS Related With 4 Days in Egypt:

Is 4 days enough for egypt.

While 4 days in Egypt would allow you to glimpse some of its iconic attractions, it may not be sufficient to explore the country’s rich history and diverse landscapes fully.

A short visit could focus on Cairo’s Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Egyptian Museum. However, a more extended stay is recommended to delve deeper into Egypt’s wonders, such as Luxor’s temples, Aswan’s High Dam, and the Red Sea’s beauty. To maximize your trip and experience the breadth of Egypt’s cultural and historical treasures, consider extending your stay to at least 7-10 days or more.

Are 4 days in Cairo too much?

Four days in Cairo might be considered too much if you solely focus on the city itself, as it is a bustling metropolis with heavy traffic and pollution. However, if you use your time wisely, it can be rewarding. Besides exploring the Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, and Egyptian Museum, consider venturing into the city’s vibrant neighborhoods, like Khan El Khalili market and Coptic Cairo. Take a day trip to Alexandria or a relaxing Nile cruise. Cairo’s unique blend of ancient history and modern culture offers diverse experiences. Yet, for a more comprehensive Egyptian adventure, combining Cairo with other cities like Luxor and Aswan is highly recommended.

How do I get my tourist visa?

To get a tourist visa for Egypt, follow these steps:

  • Check your country’s Egyptian embassy or consulate website for visa requirements and application procedures.
  • Complete the visa application form with accurate details and provide documents like passport, photos, flight itinerary, and hotel reservations.
  • Pay the visa fee per the embassy’s instructions in person or online.
  • Submit your application to the Egyptian embassy or consulate in person or by mail.
  • The visa processing time can vary depending on your nationality and the embassy’s workload.
  • Once approved, your visa will be stamped in your passport, allowing you to enter Egypt for tourism.

Why am I being advised to stay in a hotel near the pyramids rather than Downtown?

Staying in a hotel close to the pyramids is advisable because it offers several benefits for tourists. Proximity to the Giza Pyramids allows early access to beat the crowds and witness stunning sunrise or sunset views. Additionally, staying nearby offers more time to explore the pyramids, Sphinx, and other attractions, maximizing the experience.

The area is also safer, with security and tour options readily available. However, downtown Cairo can be bustling, noisy, and congested, and reaching the pyramids can take longer due to traffic. Accommodations near the site are preferred for a more immersive and convenient pyramids experience.

In conclusion, the 4-day itinerary in Egypt offers a glimpse into this remarkable country’s rich history and cultural heritage. From the iconic pyramids of Giza to the majestic temples of Luxor and Aswan, each day presents a new opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonders of ancient Egypt.

By exploring Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan, you will witness the architectural marvels, uncover the stories of legendary pharaohs, and gain a deeper understanding of the ancient civilization that thrived along the Nile River.

Reflecting on your journey, the key attractions and experiences stand out as shining moments of discovery and awe. The Great Pyramids of Giza, the Temple of Hatshepsut, the Philae Temple, and the Abu Simbel Temples are remarkable landmarks that will leave an indelible impression on your soul.

With its rich history, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality, Egypt beckons travelers to embark on their unique adventure. So, plan your trip, embrace the allure of this ancient land, and let Egypt unravel its secrets and stories as you explore its treasures.

Suggested Itinerary 2: Luxor Itinerary

City of Luxor

Luxor is your destination on your Egypt itinerary 4 days if you are fascinated by ancient Egyptian civilization; Despite popular belief, Luxor is home to Egypt’s oldest structures, landmarks, and famous temples, not Cairo.

The city of Luxor is frequently ranked as the most stunning, and many myths and magical stories have been told about ancient Egypt. Nobody here has ever failed to be curious about the ancient Egyptians and their fascinating culture.

Top Luxor Attractions to Visit on Egypt Itinerary 4 Days:

  • The Luxor temple is a massive ancient Egyptian temple complex on the east bank of the Nile River in Luxor. It was not built to worship a cult god or a deified representation of the pharaoh. Instead, the purpose of the Luxor Temple was to restore royal power, and many Egyptian pharaohs may have been crowned there.
  • The Valley of the Kings was where many of Egypt’s most important nobles and pharaohs were buried during the New Kingdom. Scenes from Egyptian mythology are painted on the walls of royal tombs, and this shows how the Egyptians thought about death and what they did when they died. Although nearly all of the graves appear to have been plundered and stolen in antiquity, they give some sense of the pharaohs’ wealth and authority. And the Valley of the Queens was most famous for where many of Pharaoh’s wives were buried. Both are located in Luxor and are the two important places you should visit during your Egypt itinerary 4 days.
  • Karnak Temple is the world’s largest house of worship. It is a cult temple complex honoring Amon Ra Egyptian god , Mut, and Khonsu. The Karnak Open Air Museum is a large, open area with many temples, chapels, towers, and other structures. Undoubtedly, it’s something you shouldn’t miss on your 4-day Egypt itinerary when you are in Luxor City.
  • You may view the unique ancient Egyptian architecture from the comfort of a hot air balloon . Take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on your Egypt itinerary 4 days.

Check our 4 Days Cairo & Luxor Tour Package to enjoy your Egypt itinerary 4 days to see the top attractions in Cairo and Luxor.

Suggested Itinerary 3: Aswan Itinerary

Felucca Ride Aswan

Aswan , in the country’s south, is an excellent spot to learn about Egypt’s epic history away from the chaos of Cairo and should be included on the Egypt itinerary 4 days to the country’s critical monuments of Ancient Egypt. On a traditional wooden felucca, you can see what’s left of the Temple of Khnum and the rest of Elephantine Island .

Best Aswan Interesting Sights:

  • Aswan was quite a different place back in its ancient heyday. During that time, the rulers and kings of Nubia lived on Elephantine Island or in the area around it. Because of this, you may find the graves of Nubia’s kings and royal family near the island of Elephantine, known as the Tombs of the Nobles of Aswan . ‎
  • The Temple of Kom Ombo is located on the riverbank between Edfu and Aswan and is one of the most peculiar temples in all of Ancient Egypt. It was constructed mostly during the Ptolemaic Dynasty (ca. 180–47 BCE), making it a popular stop for Nile cruises and a major feature of Aswan’s tourist attractions. The twin gods Sobek and Horus are honored in the temple.
  • Abu Simbel Temple is only second in fame worldwide to the Pyramids of Giza and is on Lake Nasser’s shore, south of Aswan. When Egypt was at its strongest in the New Kingdom, these massive rock-cut temples, which Ramesses II built, marked the border between the Egyptian Empire and Nubia in the south.
  • The Temple of Philae is a sight because it is one of the most beautiful examples of ancient Egyptian architecture. You’ll need to take a water taxi to Aglika Island, located south of the old Aswan Dam, to reach the ruins. After the high dam was built, the temple had to be moved, and there was a chance that it would be completely submerged.

Day 3: Fly to Luxor

4 days in Egypt

Valley of the Kings

Start your tour of the Valley of the Kings with the Tombs of the Pharaohs of the New Kingdom. The Valley of the Kings is in the middle of a hill in Luxor, where the great pharaohs of Egypt’s new empire are buried (1570-1070 BC). From the 16th century BC to the 11th century BC, the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties of pharaohs and other important people were buried in the Valley of the Kings.

The Colossi of Memnon

Visit the Colossi of Memnon , two giant statues of Amenophis III facing the Nile. Three thousand four hundred years ago, there were two giant statues of Amenophis II on the west bank of the Nile. Figures show the pharaoh kneeling and looking at the rising sun with his hands clasped together. Each statue is 18 meters tall and 1,300 tonnes heavy.

Hatshepsut’s Temple at Deir el Bahari

The temple of Hatshepsut for the dead is not like any other. The main one is usually cut into the side of a mountain and has three levels of main terraces. This temple is where the god Amun Ra is honored.

Luxor Temple

The next trip is to the Luxor Temple , where you can see statues of Ramses the Great made of granite and the East Bank and Karnak .

Day 4: Visiting an attraction in Aswan and Final Departure.

Egypt in 4 days

Unfinished Obelisk

It’s north of the city of Aswan. Queen Hatshepsut asked for it to be carved in a granite quarry set up at the entrance to the Karnak Temple in Luxor. That Unfinished Obelisk shows us how ancient Egyptians carved obelisks. It’s 42 meters tall and 1,200 tonnes heavy. The rock started to break at some point, so it was left.

Abu Simbel is one of the most well-known archaeological sites in Egypt. It is part of the Open Air Museum of Nubia and Aswan, built around 1265 BC, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.

During Ramses II (13th century BC), this site was dug out of the rock to honor him and his wife Nefertari for winning the battle of Kadesh and to show the Nubian people who were in charge. There are two temples on the site. The “great temple” is for Ramses II, and the “minor temple” is for his wife, Nefertari.

Temple of Philae

It was built on a rocky island where Isis was worshipped (goddess of love in ancient Egypt). In ancient Egypt, Set was the god of evil. According to a story, Osiris was killed by Set and brought back to life by the tears of his wife, the goddess Isis, who ran away to the Island of Philae. The Philae Temple was saved from the water of the Nile after the Aswan High Dam was built. Between 1964 and 1968, it was moved to Ejelica Island by UNESCO.

Then, after you’ve had great tours in Egypt during the Egypt itinerary in 4 days, you’ll go to the Airport to catch your flight home.

Over the course of three days in Cairo, you can take in its most important sights and attractions as well as explore the city's culture and take day trips or cruises along the Nile Valley or to Nasser’s lake

There are 857 kilometers between Cairo and Abu Simbel. A direct flight from Cairo Airport to Abu Simbel Airport isn't available at this time. Two and a half hours and forty minutes is the fastest flight, with one layover in Aswan along the way.

Trains in Egypt are very safe, but since Cairo has such tremendous traffic, driving in Egypt is more hazardous. As a rule, train delays are much less prevalent than vehicle delays. So don't ever worry about safety and get prepared for one or 2 hours delay for trains. If you have limited time trip in Egypt, taking flight will give you a better perspective of time and provide you with additional comfort.

Surely, Abu Simbel is 3 hours ride from Aswan. Choose a 4 Days/ 3 nights Nile Cruise schedule that stars sailing next day after check in from Aswan. Then, you have one and half day in Aswan city which makes it available to go to Abu Simbel. Important note: When you enter the temple at Abu Simbel, you'll find that the colors remain, and the sculptures and carvings seem incredible. The use of cameras is strictly prohibited. To reach Abu Simbel from Cairo, you can take a plane or a vehicle trip. (Cairo to Aswan is usually reached by boat or train).

The area around Abu Simbel is safe, but we advise you not to drive in Egypt as it's crowded. Things are far apart, especially for inexperienced drivers. You'll be safe in Abu Simbel but avoid traveling too far from the big tourist attractions.

As it turns out, the Abu Simbel Temple is made up of two separate temples, both of which are rock-cut buildings that were created during King Ramses II's reign around 1200 BC. Queen Nefertari was buried in a separate temple from King Ramses II. On Ramses' birthday, you can see the sunrays celebrate it.

The flight from Aswan (ASW) to Abu Simbel takes about 45 minutes (ABS). On a cruise from Aswan to Abu Simbel is another option, you may also see the wonders of Nile river and its ancient monuments. You can also take a train trip depending on your situation.

For your Nile River Cruise excursion, you will need a few necessary goods. Here is a list of the most important ones: Sunscreen, you should bring sun protection on a Nile River Cruise to avoid becoming sunburned in Egypt, especially in Upper Egypt. People who are susceptible to getting seasick should bring diarrhea tablets, a sun hat, and sunglasses, as well as insect repellent. The camera, power adapter with USD ports, local sim card, and tour guide are all included in the package.

No, they are located in different Egyptian cities. After 1500 B.C. the Egyptian rulers stopped building pyramids and instead buried their dead in the Valley of the Kings. Near Luxor, on Egypt's west bank of the Nile, is the Valley of the Kings, while Giza is home to the Pyramids.

The Nile river is the first must-see in Egypt tours. It holds nature, history, and you can see traditions of Egyptian fishermen and Nubian people at its side in Aswan. You can see the Nile in many ways, walking in downtown Cairo, visiting restaurants in Zamalek and el Manial, or better by Nile cruising between Aswan and Luxor.

Yes, The Long Nile Cruise, which runs from Cairo to Aswan, offers a variety of sights and sounds (or vice versa). the remnants of Akhenaten's desert city, Beni Hassan's Tomb, Abydos Temple, and Dendarah Temple. From seven to ten nights, few cruises sail the Nile from Cairo to Luxor and Aswan.

Yes, river cruises in Egypt are highly safe in 2021 because the Egyptian authorities provide adequate security. Covid-19 safety measures are applied on board of all Egyptian Nile cruises and at all touristic sites. In order to protect tourists, metal detectors and X-ray scanners will be placed aboard the Nile Cruise ships in 2020 and 2021.

Egypt's Pyramids of Giza are here from 4,500 years ago. This site is not only one of the ancient world's best-preserved world wonders that stills stands; it is also a destination many travelers yearn to see. One of the hugest human made constructions that was built in the time of having literally nothing in hand of equipment or education. It was constructed with an absolute engineering brilliance, symmetry, and elegant internal décor and tricks! Of course it is worth watch it. We recommend adding one or 2 days in Cairo to your 3nights Nile Cruise to see Pyramids.

Cairo to Aswan Long Nile Cruise offers a range of sights and sounds (or vice versa). For 10 nights you can see many things like Tal El Amarna, Beni Hasan's Tomb, Abydos Temple, and Dendarah Temple. The majority of Nile cruises from Cairo last from 7 to Luxor and10 nights to Aswan.

First step of all is to define your budget and the duration you are willing to spend at the Nile cruise. After that you should be searching online for the best Nile Cruising ships in Egypt in terms of their facilities, and accommodation. Choosing an expert tour guide to accompany you in your cruising experience is a brilliant way to know more about everything you pass by and get the historical context.

Of course that is a must to see! Tourists can go inside pyramids to see how it looks like from inside, but only for a price. That is, since you buy a ticket, you can enter the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure. We recommend adding few days to your 4 days Nile Cruises from Cairo to see Pyramids.

India is 13.2% less expensive than Egypt. A vacation to Egypt from India costs between Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 80,000 per person, including airfare. On other hand, traveling in Egypt is less costly than in Europe, America, and Japan.

Egypt no longer has nearly as many crocodiles as it once did. They're primarily found in the Nile Valley's southern reaches. Despite the fact that they are still deadly. Nile crocodiles still exist, although not in the huge numbers and along the full length of the Nile. Wishing you safe 4 days/ 3 nights Nile Cruises from Cairo

A felucca is a traditional Egyptian wooden boat with a fabric sail that comes in several shapes and sizes. The felucca has no cabins or enclosed areas, which gives some welcome protection and shelter from the sun (and other elements). Egyptian boats are often used to go up and down the Nile for generations. It's usually used for a Nile crossing or an overnight just on Nile, but never for boarding. However we recommend 4 days/ 3 nights Nile Cruises better than felucca for your Nile stay.

The most affordable four-day Nile cruises begin at US$280. The cost of a luxury cruise is higher. Prices start at US$350 per person for a 5-day journey, increasing to US$1200 for very luxrious cruises. The quickest trip last for 4 days Nile Cruises from Cairo charges less than $300.

Yes, there are both huge cruise ships and little felucca boats. Luxurious floating hotels are also available. The Nile River Cruise travels between Luxor and Aswan or vice versa, allowing passengers to visit the holy Karnak temple complex, the renowned Valley of the Kings, the captivating Hatshepsut temple, the unique Kom Ombo temple, the majestic Philae temple, the spectacular Edfu temple, and more.

The cost of a trip to Egypt varies depending on the number of days, the tour style (luxury or budget), and the number of participants. The expense of budget Egypt 7 days vacations ranges from $590 to a ceiling of $1200, while elite and luxrious Egypt 10 days excursions range from $2500 to a total of $5000.

Cruises on the Nile River have returned after a month-long suspension due to the coronavirus epidemic. In April 2021, there are 130 Nile Cruises operating between Luxor and Aswan, with roughly half of them ready to give the most delightful holiday to all of our clients from the United States and Europe. However have nile cruises resumed service, but so have floating hotels and tiny feluccas.

Yes, river cruises in Egypt are quite secure, since the Egyptian government provide complete protection. To protect the safety of visitors, metal detectors and X-ray machines have been installed, and the Nile Cruise ships will use Covid-19 stringent safety procedures in 2020 and 2021. Also, keep a keen eye on the kids and don't allow them wander about the ship deck alone.

It's significantly safer than you would think. And along Nile, you'll sense a strong degree of security, which is reassuring and relaxing rather than obtrusive. Every location, hotel, and cruise ship has metal detector gates identical to those shown at airports. Plan for luggage inspections as well; for day excursions, it's better to pack a light bag.

Despite the fact that Egypt is a Muslim country, women are not compelled by law to adhere to a dress code. You can appear as you like as a tourist, but you'll be more comfortable and feel the whole Egyptian experience if you dress modestly. Consider maxi dresses, blouses, and linen pants with a wide leg. Enjoy your 3 Nights Nile Cruises.

At Egypt's most famous pyramids, summers are hot and winters are chilly, although not below freezing. Use lightweight, breathable, and flexible textiles like cotton and linen while on vacation in the heat. Warmer clothing, such as pants, a long-sleeved top, and a coat, is recommended throughout the winter.

Egyptians are thought to dress conservatively by many in the West. Egyptian women, both citizens, and visitors, are not forced to adhere to any clothing codes. Because it is vital to cover your cleavage, knees, and shoulders in Egyptian culture, skirts, blouses, jeans, any form of pants, and anything else that meets these criteria are acceptable. Crop tops and shorts are not commonly seen on city streets or in religious institutions. As a result, it is typically preferable for all parties to strike a balance between your personal style and cultural norms.

No, although many tourists would endeavor to respect the majority of Egyptians' traditional appearance in the roads and, in particular, on religious pilgrimages. Wear clothes that cover your legs and shoulders if at all practical, although it is not needed. It's OK to wear trousers, capris, or skirts as long as they're comfortable and respectful. The majority of Egyptian women dress modestly in long slacks and skirts, blouses, jackets, and shirts on the street. Don’t forget to bring a light scarf for religious trips.

Where do Nile cruises depart from? The most popular departure places for Nile cruises are Luxor and Aswan. River cruising is a relaxing and luxurious way to see Upper Egypt's historic sights. The majority of river cruises departs from Cairo and run three to seven days (round trip), with just a few trips that spend more than a week cruising.

Based on Egypt's climate throughout the year and the fact that Upper Egypt is the warmest area of Egypt, "Luxor & Aswan," where you may enjoy your Nile River Cruise and the Nile's magnificence, the best time to take a Nile River cruise is between October and April.

Yes! Small felucca rides and luxurious cruises are available for locals and tourists to enjoy. After a long break during the Covid-19 outbreak, the Nile River resumed accommodating many journeys. Longer journeys between Cairo and Luxor are still available.

The more you are willing to stay at Cairo; it will be differently worth the time and effort. Cairo is a big city and it has much to offer. If you are looking for the minimum amount of time, three days can allow you visit many of its landmarks, such as the Giza Pyramids, the great Sphinx, Coptic Cairo, the Egyptian Museum and many more.

You'll need at least two days to view the major attractions in Luxor; on the first day, you'll see the Kings Valley, Hatshepsut Temple, and the Valley of the Queens. The temples of Karnak and Luxor will be visited on the second day. I recommend seeing Habu Temple, the Valley of Workers, the Luxor Museum, and the Valley of Nobles if you have an extra day or two in Luxor.

Aswan isn’t generally a nicer place to Luxor for each of these cities has a different type of beauty. Aswan has a strong cultural roots and people usually go there and be amazed by how the Nubian culture managed to stay alive until now. The architecture and the very warm vibes of Aswan make it a very cozy place to chill. Luxor will be a favorite city for any history enthusiast for it contains almost one third of the world’s heritage. However it all depends on your personal interests and preferences, they are both nice cities.

They are called felucca and they have very distinctive features different that the other very fancy and luxurious vessels. When Egyptians need to go on a short trip or just cross the Nile River, they would go for a felucca ride. The felucca has a triangular sail and it is relatively smaller than ships.

Dahabiya is a famous Egyptian Nile cruise. It has a very luxurious service and elegant design, also taking Dahabiya cruise will offer you a private and quiet way to explore the Nile. Its ship deck is wide and offers a great view in the morning while having a breakfast. It is given an Arabic name, Dahabiya, which brings you back to earlier times when the Nile Valley was visited by Europe's aristocracy on kind of similar ships.

Hi TripAdvisor friends

I am looking for a recommendation for a company for a 4 to 5 day tour in September. I will be traveling solo and not against a tour group. My interests are probably the pretty standard ones, the Genghis Khan statue, stay in a Ger camp, horseback riding or camel riding, and see a little of the countryside. Low to mid-range budget. Thank you for any suggestions!

Tour Name: Experience Egypt Cultural Sightseeing in 10 Days

This was the trip of a lifetime that I was able to have with my eldest son - an absolutely Read More amazing experience. To be able to actually see the places and artifacts that I had read about and studied was truly phenomenal. Our hotels were great, the travel to and from sites was completely taken care of, we never felt unsafe or left to our own devices, and the itinerary was just right. But what made the experience so fab was our two guides - Mahmoud Nour in Luxor/Aswan/Abu Simbel and "Max" in Cairo/Memphis/Saqqara. Korn Ferry Tour

Jordan Spieth attends Korn Ferry Tour event, reflects on early days as pro

Change Text Size

Jordan Spieth attended a Korn Ferry Tour event as a fan Wednesday. Yes, that Jordan Spieth.

Spieth made an appearance at the Veritex Bank Championship in his home Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, visiting with friends who competed in the pro-am at Texas Rangers Golf Club. Spieth’s buddies played nine holes with Matt McCarty and nine holes with Jamie Lovemark (Spieth’s close friend Richie Sapp, a groomsman in Spieth’s wedding, is the event’s tournament director).

Spieth, a three-time major champion, spent a brief period on the Korn Ferry Tour in his formative years, and he’s keenly aware of the game’s fine line between glory and the grind. Wednesday offered a chance to remember those days, and to reminisce on the vast depth in professional golf.

“These guys, they’re grinding,” Spieth said Wednesday. “They’re sometimes playing seven, eight weeks in a row … and all of a sudden they go on a run and they’re Scotite Scheffler. It’s where it all comes from.”

(This depth was further exemplified Thursday, when 24-year-old Frankie Capan III carded an opening-round 58 at Texas Rangers Golf Club, which wasn’t even the Korn Ferry Tour’s low round of the year. Cristobal Del Solar shot an opening-round 57 at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard in February.)

Spieth’s magical 2013 season included back-to-back top-10 finishes at the Korn Ferry Tour's The Panama Championship (T7) and Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard (T4). He then faced a decision point: continue on the Korn Ferry Tour, or head to the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open, into which he had received a sponsor exemption.

Spieth headed to Puerto Rico and finished second to earn a spot in the Valspar Championship, where he finished seventh to earn Special Temporary Membership on TOUR. The rest was history – he won the John Deere Classic later that summer to activate full membership, represented the United States in the Presidents Cup that fall and proceeded to global golf superstardom.

That year included a stint on the Korn Ferry Tour, which resonates to this day. (So much so, that he intended to track the competition as it unfolded at Texas Rangers GC.)

“Since I’m off this week, it will be fun (after) seeing this place, meeting the couple guys, looking this week on the app and seeing how they’re doing," Spieth said Wednesday. "Hearing a couple of the stories … Matt (McCarty), I know he was close last year and he’s doing pretty well this year so far, kind of right on the bubble.”

The top 30 on the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Points List will earn 2025 PGA TOUR membership, joining Spieth at the game’s highest level. He’ll know what it took to get there.

Passover is a major Jewish holiday, celebrated over seven or eight days each year, commemorating the exodus of ancient Israelites from slavery in Egypt, as recounted in the Bible. To many Jews, it symbolizes freedom and the birth of a Jewish nation.

This year, for many Jews, the holiday’s mood will be somber due to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and the rise of antisemitic incidents elsewhere.

WHEN IS PASSOVER THIS YEAR?

Passover – known as Pesach in Hebrew -- begins on April 22. By tradition, it will be celebrated for seven days in Israel and for eight days by some Jews in the rest of the world.

WHAT ARE KEY PASSOVER RITUALS AND TRADITIONS?

For many Jews, Passover is a time to reunite with family and recount the exodus from Egypt at a meal called the Seder. Observant Jews avoid grains known as chametz, a reminder of the unleavened bread the Israelites ate when they fled Egypt quickly with no time for dough to rise. Cracker-like matzo is OK to eat; most breads, pastas, cakes and cookies are off-limits.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT THIS YEAR?

For many Israelis, it’s hard to celebrate an occasion focused on freedom when some of their compatriots are still held hostage by Hamas in Gaza. The hostages’ plight has reverberated worldwide, with some families in the Jewish diaspora asking rabbis to give them additional prayers for this year’s Seder. Others have created a new Haggadah, the book read during the Seder, to reflect current realities.

Many Seder tables, in Israel and elsewhere, are expected to have empty seats, representing those killed or taken hostage on Oct. 7, as well as soldiers unable to return home for Passover.

There’s also intense concern, in some countries, about a recent rise in antisemitic incidents .

The U.S-based Anti-Defamation League says it tallied 8,873 incidents of antisemitic assault, harassment and vandalism across the country in 2023 – up 140% from 2022 – with most of the incidents occurring after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel. On Wednesday, the ADL and other Jewish organizations participated in A “Passover Without Fear” webinar, with FBI Director Christopher Wray and several security experts offering guidance on keeping the Passover season safe, secure and as welcoming as possible.

The event was hosted by the Secure Community Network, which provides security and safety resources to hundreds of Jewish organizations and institutions across North America.

“It is not a time for panic, but it is a time for continued vigilance,” said Wray, adding that the FBI was particularly concerned about the threat posed by “lone actors.”

WHAT ARE RABBIS AND SCHOLARS SAYING?

“The Seder is supposed to help us to relive past slavery and liberation from Egypt and to learn its lessons, but in 2024 it must also ask contemporary questions about the confusing and traumatic present and most important, generate hope for the future.” --- Noam Zion, emeritus member of the faculty of Jewish studies at the Hartman Institute in Jerusalem.

“At the Seder, we make a point of eating bitter herbs, to recall the difficulties of the past, and also drink wine and eat the foods of freedom. It is a mix -- a meal filled with discussion that confronts the challenges of being a Jew throughout history and of being a Jew today.” -- Rabbi Moshe Hauer, executive vice president of the Orthodox Union, a major U.S.-based Jewish organization .

“What a challenging time it is right now for the Jewish people. We feel so alone ... There is so much cynicism in the world, so much hopelessness. We need Passover now more than ever. It’s a story that ends in freedom and joy.” -- Rabbi Noah Farkas, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles.
