About + live +.

+LIVE+ have sold over 22 million albums worldwide and earned two number one albums: Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi. Their catalog is filled with such gems as “Lightning Crashes,” “I Alone,” “All Over You” and “Lakini’s Juice,” which live on today as classics on rock radio. Throwing Copper—which the band celebrated in 2019 with a new deluxe 25th anniversary edition via Radioactive/Geffen/Ume along with a global tour across major festivals, amphitheaters and arenas--produced the band’s biggest single, “Lightning Crashes,” which was #1 at Modern Rock radio for ten consecutive weeks. Throwing Copper reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually surpassed sales of 10 million albums sold, with Rolling Stone honoring the album with placement on their list, “1994: The 40 Best Records From Mainstream Alternative's Greatest Year.” Secret Samadhi (1997) immediately shot to #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went double platinum. The release of the platinum-selling The Distance to Here (1999) turned +LIVE+ into an international powerhouse and moved the band from arenas into stadiums. +LIVE+ has been and remains today a global concert juggernaut. The band released an acclaimed five-song EP in 2018, LOCAL 717, their first new music in over a decade.

2024 RBC Heritage live stream, TV schedule, how to watch online, channel, tee times, radio, golf coverage

There was no rest for the weary with a signature event on tap one week after the masters.

rbc-heritage-signage-2023-g.jpg

Players have made the short trip from Augusta, Georgia, to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, for the 2024 RBC Heritage. In total, 69 golfers teed it up on Harbour Town Golf Links as yet another signature event on the PGA Tour's playing calendar rolls on.

Unlike the Genesis Invitational or Arnold Palmer Invitational, the RBC Heritage does not feature a 36-hole cut, meaning the entirety of the field will be around for the weekend. That is music to the ears to those who missed out on the weekend action at the Masters, including the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman.

Spieth, the 2022 champion, looks to kickstart his season after a disappointing showing at Augusta National. He is no stranger to bouncing back at the RBC Heritage, following a missed cut at the year's first major championship with a win a week later in Hilton Head. He's not in contention to win this tournament, but he's certainly playing better than he did last week.

This tournament, like the rest on the PGA Tour these days, goes through Scottie Scheffler. The world No. 1 aims to collect his fourth trophy in his last five tournaments, and he holds the 54-hole lead entering the final day of play. Fresh off slipping on his second green jacket, Scheffler has widened the gap between him and the rest of the world and shows no signs of slowing down. Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Åberg -- just as they did at the Masters -- are breathing down Scheffler's neck on Sunday.

Featuring some of Mustaine’s strongest-ever songwriting, the tour offers an equally ambitious live performance that delivers on all fronts.

“Our ‘Crush The World’ tour has been a tremendous experience for the four of us,” shared Dave Mustaine. “We are all playing tight, and that has made it possible for me to really focus on solos and singing, we are playing more songs than ever before, and we are closer to each other, onstage AND off. I’m excited to see Mudvayne, and All That Remains. Join us as we DESTROY ALL ENEMIES.”

The North American jaunt comes on the heels of a highly anticipated and successful stint in Latin America wrapping this month and starting back up in Europe this summer. With stops in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and México and forthcoming dates in Sweden, Italy, France, Germany and more, the band’s global appeal and lasting impact is more apparent than ever as continued calls for international touring are demanded.

Dubbed “as ferocious and hard-hitting as ever” by AllMusic , Megadeth enjoyed sold-out shows and critical acclaim on the latest run of the Crush The World Tour captivating audiences and showcasing the latest and greatest hits.

Neil Young Stuns at 2024 Tour Launch, Unveils Lost ‘Cortez the Killer’ Verse

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

In typical Neil Young fashion, virtually nothing was revealed about his 2024 U.S. tour before it kicked off Wednesday night at San Diego’s Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, other than the fact he’d be backed by Crazy Horse , and that Micah Nelson would be taking over guitar duties from Nils Lofgren. Would he pull a Greendale and debut an entire rock opera nobody had ever heard? Would he focus the set around the three new studio albums he cut with Crazy Horse between 2019 and 2022? Might he repeat the concept of his 2023 solo tour by spotlighting obscure Eighties and Nineties album tracks and skipping most of his hits?

They jammed for six minutes before Young sang the opening lines, igniting the crowd into a frenzy, but the big moment came near the end, when he began singing completely unfamiliar words. As he teased earlier this month , it was the legendary lost segment of the song that failed to record during the 1975 Zuma sessions because the console briefly lost power. Young recently found the lyric manuscript, and worked out where they originally fit in the song.

“I floated on the water,” Young sang. “I ate that ocean wave/Two weeks after the slaughter/I was living in a cave/They came too late to get me/But there’s no one here to set me free/From this rocky grave/To that snowed-out ocean wave.”

It was a remarkable moment to witness. After 49 years and over 540 live performances, the world finally got to hear the song as Young originally wrote it.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Young was talking about “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’),” from 1996’s Broken Arrow, which was the newest song they played all evening. The rest of the set was music recorded when Briggs was alive, largely between 1969 and 1979, beginning with “Don’t Cry No Tears.” He followed it up with a triple shot of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere : “Down by the River,” “The Losing End,” and the title track. And it was a particularly mesmerizing “Down by the River” that stretched out for 16 blissful minutes.

Pearl jam, neil young, alanis morissette lead ohana fest 2024, phish reach jam-band bliss at the sphere in las vegas.

After the Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere mini-set, the quartet (Crazy Horse 4.0?) kicked into one of the greatest renditions of “Powderfinger” I’ve ever heard, thanks to improvisational guitar work prior to each verse by Young and Nelson. What came next was a 16-minute “Love and Only Love,” the band walking offstage, and then Young strapping on an harmonica rack for solo acoustic renditions of “Comes a Time,” “Heart of Gold,” and “Human Highway” that had the entire amphitheater singing along.

The band returned to wrap up the night with “Don’t Be Denied,” an autobiographical tale that carries a lot more emotional weight when Young sings it at age 78 as opposed to 28, and a thrashed-out “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).”

Could Eating Less Help You Live Longer?

Calorie restriction and intermittent fasting both increase longevity in animals, aging experts say. Here’s what that means for you.

An illustration of a person's face, repeated to show a progression of aging. Around them clock hands reveal areas of food on circular clock shapes that double as plates.

By Dana G. Smith

If you put a lab mouse on a diet, cutting the animal’s caloric intake by 30 to 40 percent, it will live, on average, about 30 percent longer. The calorie restriction, as the intervention is technically called, can’t be so extreme that the animal is malnourished, but it should be aggressive enough to trigger some key biological changes.

Listen to this article with reporter commentary

Scientists first discovered this phenomenon in the 1930s, and over the past 90 years it has been replicated in species ranging from worms to monkeys. The subsequent studies also found that many of the calorie-restricted animals were less likely to develop cancer and other chronic diseases related to aging.

But despite all the research on animals, there remain a lot of unknowns. Experts are still debating how it works, and whether it’s the number of calories consumed or the window of time in which they are eaten (also known as intermittent fasting) that matters more.

And it’s still frustratingly uncertain whether eating less can help people live longer, as well. Aging experts are notorious for experimenting on themselves with different diet regimens, but actual longevity studies are scant and difficult to pull off because they take, well, a long time.

Here’s a look at what scientists have learned so far, mostly through seminal animal studies, and what they think it might mean for humans.

Why would cutting calories increase longevity?

Scientists don’t exactly know why eating less would cause an animal or person to live longer, but many hypotheses have an evolutionary bent. In the wild, animals experience periods of feast and famine, as did our human ancestors. Therefore, their (and conceivably our) biology evolved to survive and thrive not only during seasons of abundance, but also seasons of deprivation.

One theory is that, on a cellular level, calorie restriction makes animals more resilient to physical stressors. For example, calorie-restricted mice have greater resistance to toxins and recover faster from injury, said James Nelson, a professor of cellular and integrative physiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Another explanation involves the fact that, in both humans and animals , eating fewer calories slows down metabolism. It’s possible that “the less you have to get your body to metabolize, the longer it can live,” said Dr. Kim Huffman, an associate professor of medicine at Duke University School of Medicine who has studied calorie restriction in people. “You know, just slow the wheels down and the tires will last longer.”

Calorie restriction also forces the body to rely on fuel sources other than glucose, which aging experts think is beneficial for metabolic health and, ultimately, longevity. Several researchers pointed to a process known as autophagy , where the body eats up malfunctioning parts of cells and uses them for energy. This helps cells function better and lowers the risk of several age-related diseases.

In fact, scientists think that one of the main reasons calorie-restricted diets make mice live longer is because the animals don’t get sick as early, if at all, said Dr. Richard Miller, a professor of pathology at the University of Michigan.

There are a few notable exceptions to the findings around longevity and calorie restriction. Most striking was a study Dr. Nelson published in 2010 on mice that were genetically diverse. He found that some of the mice lived longer when they ate less, but a larger percentage actually had a shorter life span.

“That was kind of really unheard of,” Dr. Nelson said, noting that most papers on calorie restriction start out by saying: “‘Food restriction is the most robust, almost universal means of extending life span in species across the animal kingdom’ and blah, blah, blah.”

Other researchers have disputed the significance of Dr. Nelson’s findings. “People cite this study as though it were general evidence that caloric restriction only works a tiny portion, or some portion of the time,” Dr. Miller said. “But you can reach that conclusion only if you ignore 50 years of strong published evidence saying that it works almost all the time.”

Dr. Nelson’s study wasn’t the only one that didn’t find a universal longevity benefit with calorie restriction, though. For example, two studies conducted in monkeys for over 20 years, published in 2009 and 2012 , reported conflicting findings. Animals in both experiments showed some health benefits tied to caloric restriction, but only one group lived longer and had lower rates of age-related diseases, like cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

What does intermittent fasting have to do with it?

In the face of these mixed results, some researchers wonder if there may be another variable at play that is just as, or even more, important than the number of calories an animal eats: the window of time in which they eat them.

A key difference between the two monkey trials was that in the 2009 study, conducted at the University of Wisconsin, the calorie-restricted animals only received one meal a day and the researchers took away any leftover food in the late afternoon, so the animals were forced to fast for about 16 hours. In the 2012 study, run by the National Institute on Aging, the animals were fed twice a day and the food was left out overnight. The Wisconsin monkeys were the ones that lived longer.

A more recent study conducted in mice explicitly tested the effects of calorie restriction with and without intermittent fasting. Scientists gave the animals the same low-calorie diet, but some had access to the food for just two hours, others for 12 hours and another group for 24. Compared to a control group of mice that could graze on a full-calorie diet at any time, the low-calorie mice with 24-hour access lived 10 percent longer, while the low-calorie mice that ate within specific time windows had up to a 35 percent increase in life span.

Based on this collection of findings, Rafael de Cabo, a senior investigator at the N.I.A. who helped lead the monkey study there, now thinks that while calorie restriction is important for longevity, the amount of time spent eating — and not eating — every day is just as critical. And that might be the case not only for animals, but also for humans.

What does this mean for me?

It’s difficult to definitively answer whether intermittent fasting, calorie restriction or a combination of the two could cause people to live longer.

“I don’t think we have any evidence that it extends life span in humans,” Dr. Nelson said. That doesn’t mean it can’t work, he added, just that the evidence is “very hard to come by because it takes a lifetime to get that data.”

One clinical trial — named the Calerie study — attempted to answer this question by examining how cutting calories by 25 percent for two years affected a range of measurements related to aging. More than 100 healthy adults were advised on meal planning and given regular counseling sessions to help them reach their diet goals. But because it’s so difficult to reduce calories, participants were ultimately only able to reduce their intake by about 11 percent.

Compared to control participants, the dieters improved several aspects of their cardio-metabolic health, including blood pressure and insulin sensitivity, and they had lower levels of a few markers of inflammation.

The study also included three measures of “ biological age ,” comparing blood tests taken at the beginning and end of the two years. Two of the tests didn’t find an improvement in either group, but the third, which purports to measure how fast people age, did show a difference in the dieters. Calorie restriction “didn’t make people younger, but it made the rate at which they age slower,” said Dr. Huffman, who worked on the trial.

To Dr. Miller, the most significant conclusion from this study is that the 25 to 40 percent calorie restriction shown to be beneficial in animals is just not realistic in people. “Everything that could be accomplished to try to help them” cut calories was done for the participants, he said, and they still fell short of the goal of 25 percent.

Dr. de Cabo had a different take: “With only 11 percent calorie restriction that was achieved by the participants, they still show benefits,” he said.

Other research has focused on the short-term effects of intermittent fasting in people with a range of body mass indexes. Some studies , testing a variety of fasting schedules, showed improved metabolic health and reduced inflammation. But a trial of 116 people whose B.M.I. classified them as overweight or obese found no benefit among those who ate within an eight-hour window but didn’t reduce their calories, compared to a control group.

And to add a final twist, there is a notable body of evidence that appears to directly contradict the idea that calorie restriction or fasting, which typically leads to weight loss, extends human life span. Research consistently finds that people who are classified as overweight have a lower risk of death than those who are normal or underweight. One hypothesis is that people with the lowest B.M.I.s may be thin because they are older or have a chronic illness. Another is that people with higher B.M.I.s have more muscle, which weighs more than fat. But it’s also conceivable that, especially later in life, having greater body mass is actually protective, Dr. Huffman said.

Despite nearly a century of research, there’s still a ways to go before experts can say for certain whether the longevity benefits seen in animals will translate to humans. Some studies provide reason to believe that calorie restriction and intermittent fasting will help you live longer, and there are likely shorter-term benefits, particularly when it comes to heart and metabolic health. But it’s also possible that eating less might not do much more than leave you hungry.

Keep your dog active and engaged for a long and contented life

Chrissy Joy - Dog trainer Darby the dog

That couch-potato pooch of yours needs to get outside and move.

Any dog that spends all day zonked on the couch is not only doing little to stay engaged with the outside world, but might also be developing more than a few health problems right under your nose, according to celebrity dog trainer Chrissy Joy .

Joy never thought she’d spend her life performing and working on sets with her, now, 5 dogs. In fact, as a child, the host of the Dog Moms on DOGTV loved animals, but was so anxious it was hard for her to leave the house.

“Then I got a beagle and fell in love with training her,” Joy told The Post. “When I was training her, the rest of the world stopped.”

In her 20s, she adopted her own dog and discovered a potential new career. “I found this amazing outlet working with my dogs on set,” said Joy, an international trick dog champion, live performer, studio canine trainer and educator. She’s also slated to be a judge alongside a “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity on a doggy dancing show this summer.

“With my dog out there with me, I’m good — and never anxious,” she said.

Here are her tips for keeping your pup active and healthy.

Your dog isn’t tired — he’s actually bored

Convincing yourself that your dog likes being lethargic, that sleeping all day is in his breed or suits his (or your) lifestyle isn’t wise.

for tour live

“If a dog spends more time in his dog bed than up and about, it’s a matter of the dog not knowing the opportunities in front of him,” Joy told The Post. “I have an almost 10-year-old dog and, if you give him the opportunity to lay around and do nothing, he will, but if I bring out a puzzle toy or do a trick-training session he will be happy to go off and do that. Our pets are shaped by the lifestyle that we create for them.”

Count calories

What you feed your dog makes a huge difference in their metabolism and hormones, whether your vet wants your dog to maintain weight, lose weight or, even, gain weight.

Speak to your vet about how many calories your dog truly needs, and don’t forget to count the treats.

“If you feed your dog daily meals and then add on lots of treats and chews, you’re giving your dog a huge calorie load so you need to prepare for that,” cautioned Joy. “For example, if I’m going to work my dogs on a film set for the day and use lots of treats, I’ll offset their meals to balance that out.”

It can be second nature for your dog to expect you to give a high-calorie treat as a reward for good behavior, but there are other options that are way healthier.

Joy’s favorite brand is Benebone , a flavorful chew toy. “These are useful as a way to engage your pet,” she said. “They will keep your pet busy, but your dog can’t eat them. Or, you can put healthy alternatives in a chewy toy like a Kong and you’ll give your dog the mental enrichment that helps your pet remain engaged.”

Go out and walk — it’ll help both of you

You don’t have to jump into daily jogs or sign up for a marathon to maximize the health benefits you’ll both experience. (Plus, long runs can be hard on your pooches’ joints as well as yours.)

“It might be fun to do Couch to 5K since this means you’ll both start out slow,” Joy said of the app that gradually trains you up for a 5k distance run. “Ultimately, getting outside into the fresh air is good for your mental health, but providing what I call a ‘sniffari’ will help your dog exponentially—a simple walk outside uses their strongest sense, which is their nose.”

for tour live

Recognize behavioral issues in time

Ask Joy and she’ll tell you that dogs are like soda bottles. “If you shake a soda bottle up and never give it an outlet, you’re creating pressure,” she said. “In dog terms, this leads to anxiety, overstimulation and reactivity.”

So, if they don’t get the chance to regularly get their hearts pumping, they’re probably sitting around at home all day with all this pent-up energy and nothing to do with it.

Joy’s trick to help with this boredom: Puzzle toys. “There are so many things to do with these, which is why I’m a fan,” she said. “You can put kibble in them and your dogs can roll them and bop them all over the apartment as they try to get the food out.”

In fact, Joy suggests feeding your dog via a puzzle toy instead of putting their food in a bowl on the floor. This not only slows down their feeding, but it helps them burn mental energy in the process. “This satiates their seek-and-find drive and, in turn, reduces other behaviors, such as nipping or biting. We don’t want that to happen — ever.”

My students — mostly women, gay men, and bisexual, nonbinary and trans people — are looking to be safer and more confident. But even for those who aren’t worried about personal safety or stopping gender-based violence, the teaching of self-defense offers useful lessons for daily life.

Here are some tips for claiming our power, asking for what we want and setting limits.

Believe you are worth defending

I tell my students that to be able to protect and advocate for themselves, they need to believe they are worth defending.

Studies have shown that lower self-esteem is a risk factor for victimization, including in intimate relationships and among peers . So I ask students to list things they value about themselves.

Being a loyal friend or a good listener can be on the list, but I also ask them to include things that aren’t about what they do for others — for instance, flossing, dancing, writing, making do with little, getting to work on time, picking out amazing outfits, making a mean barbecue sauce or putting their keys in a regular place.

Next, I ask them to write the reasons they deserve to be safe and treated respectfully. The answers are varied, but when we discuss them more deeply, it all comes down to the fact that every human deserves safety and respect. This exercise helps my students value themselves, and that self-worth can help them to stand up for themselves when facing harassment, abuse or assault.

Reduce negative self-talk

Another way to build self-worth is to reduce negative self-talk. Research , much of it on sports performance, shows that negative self-talk damages our minds, hearts, spirits, relationships and bodies (in the form of stress and illness). It limits our dreams and potential. It makes our lives harder than they need to be.

I know from my students how many of us believe we need to be perfect to be safe and lovable. When we aren’t — it’s impossible, no one is — our inner critic lets us know.

We talk to ourselves in ways we’d never talk to anyone else, saying things such as “I’ll never be any good at this” or “Nobody likes me.”

Arguing with an inner critic doesn’t change its ways. But I tell my students that with more awareness of those thoughts , and with practice relating to them differently, they can learn to treat themselves better.

One way to take some of the power out of negative self-talk is simply to name what’s happening: “My inner critic is being mean to me,” or “I’m feeling self-doubt right now.” This can reduce shame and helps avoid spinning off into a familiar rut.

Trust your gut

When we undervalue ourselves, we’re not in touch with our intuition , which helps protect us.

Our intuition tells us when something’s wrong. In my classes, students learn how to connect with it, because our unconscious minds, which take in information quickly through all five senses, often know when something or someone is a problem before our thinking brains do.

That “NOT OKAY!” feeling can show up anywhere in our bodies and with a variety of sensations. When my students do an exercise that helps them get in touch with their intuition, some feel chest tightness, a quickened heartbeat or a need to physically back up. Others feel their hands tighten into fists, their palms sweat, their jaws clench or even, literally, the hair on the back of their neck stand up.

Once we know how our bodies talk to us, we need to pay attention when we have that feeling and act on it . This can help us be safer — and trust ourselves more.

Flip the script: What do I think of them?

To claim our power, we need to keep the focus on ourselves.

I tell my students that when someone’s mistreating you — anything from ignoring you to attacking you — it can be easy to focus on what they might think of you or what they might do if you set a limit. But what do you think of them?

The next time someone’s behavior toward us is problematic, we can flip the script, and answer these questions:

  • What do I think of the aggressor and their behavior?
  • Are they concerned with my feelings and needs?
  • Are they behaving in a way I believe is respectful or aligned with my values about how people treat each other?

When we need to protect ourselves emotionally, physically, mentally or spiritually, it doesn’t matter what the other person intends.

Set clear limits

Empowerment self-defense, the kind I teach, is about protecting not only our physical selves, but our entire well-being.

I teach my students that when someone is disrespecting them, the fastest and easiest way to set a boundary is to say what they want. (This also sidesteps the “What should I say?” struggle.)

Depending on the situation and the relationship, what we say may be simple (“Get away from me!” “Please let me talk without interrupting.” “No hugging!”) or more complex (“When you come home and spend your time gaming, I’m lonely and my feelings are hurt. I’d like to set aside 15 minutes a night for us to talk and be together.”).

The other essential element of an effective boundary is a consequence:

  • “Mom, if you keep commenting on my weight, I’ll have to leave.”
  • “Don’t come any closer or I’ll scream.”
  • “No, you can’t touch my hair, and if you keep asking, I’ll bring it to HR.”

If they don’t respect our limits, we need to carry out our consequence.

To do so, we may need support or resources; we may also need to make life changes. But when we have options, we can exercise our freedom and power.

NFL-bound Taliese Fuaga says Oregon State ‘is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life’

Taliese Fuaga became big time in a flash Thursday night when the New Orleans Saints picked the Oregon State offensive tackle with the 14th pick of the 2024 NFL draft .

But for the 6-foot-5, 324-pound All-America right tackle, it’s all about knowing where he came from, and the grind it took to make it to the NFL.

Fuaga did some research before the draft and learned there’s never been an NFL player with his last name.

“I’m trying to carry my name to the top,” said Fuaga, who is from Oahu, Hawaii, where he watched the draft with about 100 family and friends. “To be able to carry my family’s name up there is a big thing for us. It’s a blessing.”

Fuaga’s roots include Oregon State, where he enrolled in 2020 as an unheralded three-star recruit from Tacoma. He became a two-year starter and the school’s first offensive lineman selected in the first round of the NFL draft.

Fuaga credited former Beavers like Andy Levitre and Isaac Seumalo as players who gave OSU a reputation for offensive line play.

“We like to think blue collar. It’s just a blessing because there’s a lot of great guys that have come from Oregon State,” Fuaga said. “To be that first guy in the first round, it’s only because those guys paved the way for me. Oregon State has always been a tough, gritty school.

“Oregon State is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life, to go there.”

Fuaga is also hopeful to be a Polynesian role model when he plays in the NFL.

“Polynesians, sometimes they fall into stereotypical situations. I want to be able to show you can still be a goofy Poly dude that likes to goof around, but when it’s time to be serious, you’ve got to be serious,” Fuaga said. “Being able to be a leader for the young generations, especially my family, is a blessing. I’m glad I’m in this situation.”

Fuaga said Oregon State’s football atmosphere, fostered by then-OSU offensive line coach Jim Michalczik, helped prepare him for an NFL opportunity.

“Coach Michalczik, he’s a tough guy. He’s that guy who’s got his dip and his Mountain Dew and he’s coming into work every single day,” Fuaga said.

Fuaga rattled off names of Oregon State’s starting linemen of the past few seasons, praising them for making something of themselves no matter their pedigree.

“I played next to a walk-on,” Fuaga said, referring to right guard Tanner Miller. “These guys, they work their butt off. You don’t really hear about those players coming out of high school. But just being able to show no matter where you come from, and it doesn’t matter how many stars you get, it’s all about playing football with your heart, man.”

Fuaga, who played right tackle throughout his OSU career, is unsure about his NFL position. He’s projected as a tackle, and he did some work during Beavers practices and draft prep at left tackle. But there’s also talk Fuaga could play inside at guard.

Fuaga said he knew New Orleans was a possibility, but he didn’t hear much from the draft process.

“Kind of surprising. I didn’t expect it, but I’m glad the Saints picked me,” Fuaga said.

Fuaga admitted he didn’t know much about the Saints’ roster — “I don’t watch too much NFL because you’ve got to get away somehow” — but he’s eager to meet people in the organization.

When the phone rang Thursday with the Saints on the other end, Fuaga looked at his agent and asked, “Should I answer this?”

The moment was impactful to Fuaga.

“I’m not the biggest guy to show my emotions, but it was kind of hard to hold back,” he said.

Fuaga said he’s never been to New Orleans, but has already talked to other players who have. Fuaga said New Orleans’ heat and humidity won’t bother him. He’s sure he’ll like Louisiana, if for no other reason than the food.

“I don’t know much about Louisiana food, but I like some spice,” he said.
