Global has made planning this trip stress free!

Global has been very helpful throughout this process. I have never booked a trip this big before and they helped me so much. They made the process stress free by laying out everything for me and giving me all the details I needed to feel confident in my travel decisions. With all of the helpful documents and emails provided, I was able to understand the process fully which made me feel safe. As someone who is a big planner/organizer, they really helped me take care of all the small details I was worried about. Every time I had a random question, I could ask it at any time of day and get an answer very quickly, and even be provided more information.

Everyone that has been involved in…

Everyone that has been involved in helping me plan my trip has been really efficient and helpful throughout the whole process. Always willing to answer questions and always willing to go through anything if I have misunderstood anything. Nichola, Asti & David have all been absolutely wonderful and I have nothing but high praise and would recommend them all.

The people at Global were always helpful and would assist. Matilda was reaching out and finding out the best options that would suite the budget I could afford. Mark and Tia was a big help when I had questions about my trip too! Excited to go on my trip to Canada :)

Amazing help!

Working with Global Work & Travel has been an amazing and breezy process to get my trip abroad started! I feel so organised with help from my Travel Concierge, who has helped me with all I needed to do to get my trip details sorted. The communication and assistance throughout these past few months has eased any of my worries. I thank all those who helped me plan this trip.

Had to cancel bank card. Massive scam

Honestly a terrible company to work with. You will loose your money if you no longer are interested in your travel. They do not refund any money even if you cancel (please read the terms and conditions they have). I’ve had to cancel my bank card just to get away from them stealing all my money. Don’t risk it I’d rather sort a working holiday out on my own.

It’s definitely worth it for all the help and guidance that you receive

Matilda, my travel concierge helped me through the entire process of booking flights, travel insurance etc and was very helpful + gave me heaps of advice. She was very quick with replying to my emails and was always happy to call if I needed extra help with anything.

Fast, efficient, easy

Could not have been easier to book this trip. Global Work and Travel staff were constantly checking in, keeping me updated and ensuring everything was done smoothly. The easiest way to make the move and I am so excited to catch my flight.

I have always wanted to go to Australia

I have always wanted to go to Australia. After a bit of researching and I found Global Work and travel. After showing my interest I had my phone call with Edwina who was very helpful through the whole process in me getting to my destination. I am now only a few months away from a trip of a life time and I couldn't be more thankful.

Drew is absolutely fantastic and has made this whole process easy and comfortable. Him along with my trip coordinator Taylor have been so kind, helpful, prompt, and professional.

Unnecessary waste of money

Unnecessary program, coordinator and company failed to show their worth or usefulness in my endeavor to work abroad. Poor communication, very limited assistance with tasks like applying for a visa, bank card and tax number. All of which can be easily completed by yourself. Also a very limited scope of jobs you may apply for. Minimal effort put into my preferences on location or type of work. A complete waste of money. I adamantly discourage anyone from wasting their money on global work and travel.

Hi Shay, We are sorry to hear that you feel this way about Global! Unfortunately we are unable to find you in our system with just a first name, we did request further information from you so we could provide further clarity regarding your concerns but we have not heard back from the request. Our Trip is designed to make travel easy and our team assists with everything needed before arrival & then upon arrival! We have a guarantee that we organise a job match pre arrival for our customers, we do ask our customers to always stay open minded & flexible with job types & locations as we cannot make any guarantees, but we have some fantastic partners in all locations! Your Arrival Coordinator would still be available should you need anything further & we hope you enjoy the rest of your trip. Global Work & Travel!

John my travel agent experience

John my travel agent made experience booking/paying experience incredible! He was so kind and patient and honestly so easy to talk to. He understood my needs and made sure they were met. I'm not the easiest of customers so it really does make a difference when someone understands that and works around YOU. He was really lovely and easy going and I'd honestly recommend anyone booking on to ask for John he's just insane !!

One happy traveller!

What can I say?! From the moment I discussed my interest in travelling, the Global Team have been beyond amazing! Both Eimear and Cameron (my travel concierge) were on the ball in getting everything sorted for me in terms of booking flights, securing a job role and providing helpful information towards my upcoming trip! Eimear has been so kind and informative and has really put her all into helping me get ready to set off! Cameron was very proficient and made this whole process a delight, no stress just good vibes and excitement! I could not thank them both enough for all their support! You are definitely in the right hands with these two!

Bec has been super lovely to work with, providing great support and assistance with all matters. Bec worked promptly to ensure all of my travel insurance, flights and coverages were organised without issue. When questions or issues arose, Bec was always happy to respond to my queries and to work quickly to find suitable solutions. Bec has been a wonderful travel concierge and I thank her for all of her help.

Don’t give this company your money

Don’t give this company your money, their refund and cancellation policy is literal bull. Professional thieves. You’ll save thousands of dollars just planning a trip on your own. I bet it feels really good taking the hard earned money of young Australians and offering absolutely nothing back when they’re dissatisfied with your appalling service. 0 stars.

The reason I initially chose to go with GWAT was an expectation of a higher level of service with travel arrangements than I could provide for myself. I was planning travel and a stay with a volunteer wildlife organisation for family members in Thailand. My planning and contact with GWAT was in excess of a year in advance. In this time and after initiating the process with GWAT I watched public media for several months as the political unrest and public violence and government crack downs escalated in Thailand. GWAT did not offer any travel advice in relation to the political unrest in Thailand. When I signalled my concern I received what appeared to be a ‘cut and paste’ response, all information that I could have sourced for myself. This response even stated “I will keep you updated as the situation on the ground evolves.” There were no updates, and the situation certainly continued to evolve. When I went back through my email correspondence there was no travel advice at all apart from generic pdf files, but there were numerous reminders and instructions to pay.

At this point I had paid deposits $695 each for two people, I asked what it had been used for, and GWAT claimed it was ‘work done’ so far organising the trip. I saw no detail to support this amount, I had only seen:

• Confirmation that the positions were available for our requested dates, presumably this was little more than email correspondence between GWAT and the Thailand organisation.

• Pdf files emailed to us, the same as I have been able to source myself from the Thailand organisation’s website, but cut and paste with the GWAT logo!

I was also concerned that I had locked myself into GWAT’s travel and insurance arrangements, giving me no choice of product and cost. I only received a generic response to my query regarding these products.

Moreover I was disappointed with what seemed to me to be the misleading nature of the transferability of deposit information between the web site and the service agreement. I elected to transfer the deposit of one traveller to the other and at least save some costs by planning one through GWAT and the other independently. Clause #6 in our Service Agreement stated that GWAT may be able to “fully transfer to another traveller” the program. The GWAT web site states that “Our deposits are even transferrable, so if you do love your younger brother or sister, you could send them on your trip instead!” There is no mention that the transferee must be new to GWAT! As I learnt when I asked to transfer. This information in context is misleading.

Stay away from Global Work and Travel, is my advice.

I think that they are correct that the UK's distance selling regulations don't apply to travel and transport. You could check with the CAB, though, in case I've misunderstood something.

That doesn't mean that you can't tell them that you feel your daughter has been a vicitm of miselling, nor that you can't initiate a dispute on thoise grounds, but I'm not at all sure how that would work out.

' class=

Don't get me wrong, staff are lovely and so informative. However straight away you can tell all they want is money. I was interested in the Paid work in Australia package that they do, so I got on the phone to them. Spoke to a lovely girl who told me every detail, then went on to asking all about me and that she 'knows already this is perfect for me' and she knows i will love the company too. I had already told her that I'm just browsing around companies and am not sure exactly when i want to go, as i said this she tried to talk me round to paying a £345 deposit there and then 'otherwise my space will go' and that 'would be an awful start'. Several times after telling her no not yet, she kept using persuasive language: 'so why not you?' 'do you REALLY want to look back and regret not taking this opportunity on the phone with me now'. So yeah.. it gets very annoying when you're just trying to find out information and all they keep doing is wanting you to pay a deposit, ignoring what you're saying. I then told her I'll call her back a day next week and she said she will call me instead to make sure that i definitely do this.. I understand that they want you to go with their company but it shows too much, they need to relax a bit.

A day after this phone call I found RealGapExperiences online. Already they were £700 cheaper including the visa, and the itinerary is EXACTLY the same. Not as pushy, just as informative and so much cheaper overall.

All the reviews i have seen about Global Work and Travel Co have been really bad, i guess they just charge too much and are too pushy, then once you have done it you can't go back. There are so many companies which do the exact same thing for SO much cheaper you just have to shop around!

@London245...... this thread has been running since June 2015. Posters have overwhelmingly described the service, hard sell tactics, value and product as appalling.

I doubt your short statement will change the poor opinion this company is held in.

Perhaps it might be more convincing if there was a bit of detail as to why they're so awesome, but I doubt it.

global work and travel tripadvisor

Global work and travel is a scam and one that cost me $700. Do not give them you bank details or time of day. They will do anything to convince you and manipulate you as nicely as possible, to pay their deposit, which cannot be refunded, is $700, and gets you absolutely nothing but and an imaginary 'place' in their so called exclusive experiences. When really they will take any one and everyones money even though they make it seem like you're 'perfect' for this experience. They wont give you your money back even if you change your mind minuets after paying (like i did), claiming their 'lifetime guarantee' holds your deposit safely for you to use whenever you want. Their sneaky contract of no refund means that you have very little rights when it comes to getting any money back, no matter how long after you change your mind. I have always thought myself immune to scams but their clever sales people got me into something I hope no one else has to go through and makes me sick with regret.

HI! I've unfortunately gone into this without doing proper research and have only just found this blog now. Luckily I have only paid a deposit, and I know it really could have been a lot worse! I'm just wondering how you went about the cooling off period? How does it work and would I be eligible to get a refund on my deposit?

@Rachel..... your consumer rights depend on your own country's legislation. In the UK we have a free national advice agency, but I have no idea if you have something similar in Australia.

I don't know if this is universal, but in the UK, there is no statutory "cooling off" period if the consumer directly contacts the company, either by phone, internet or in person and makes a one off payment as opposed to a payment in installments under a credit agreement. For one off payments, like a deposit, consumers can only rely on the T & C's of any contract they sign.

If you have any success getting your money back, it would really help future posters if you come back and explained how you did this.

Hi I am in the same situation, having paid a deposit. But I was told there is no cooling off period???? How did you manage to get your daughter's refund back???

Alana, good to get some response but no idea to whom you are refering and it is 2 months after the last post and 5 after the original one.

There is little hope of them returning to read this now.

People who come on TA to complain seldom stay to help others.

It looks like it;s a reply to Aisha in message 9, who admitted that she was offered two jobs that she considered were not suitable due to either location or relevance to her skills and experience.

Sadly, Aisha did not even return to take the advice of removing her personal info. Though she did post again in another thread more recently, prompting another reply from the company.

how did it work out? I just paid a 300 deposit. Planning to be an au pair in the UK

how did it work out? I just paid a 300 deposit. Planning to be an au pair in the UK. I'm so torn about all the bad reviews, especially about the Canadian office (where I'm from).

Victoria there have been 11 threads with this title, have a read and see what information you can glean.

http://tinyurl.com/gwqqzla

If you have problems with the link just put 'Global Work and Travel' into the small search box just above the threads to bring it up.

No idea if anyones travelled happily with them but they do take money for old rope, some offices have had problems with the law in their country and the real bone of contention is the poor support once you are there.

Basically what they do is fill in forms for you.

Have you looked at the office on street view? Seems to be over a bike shop and hair dressers but no sign on the window. Much the same as the Aussie one. Always check the size of an opperation. I would want somewhere more substantial to take care of me.

Did it work out for you? Please advise as our daughter is looking at an au pair job in Australia

It would be useful to know who you are asking. If you don't get a response, you could try sending whoever it is a private message (PM) by clicking on their screen name and then selecting Send Message.

After reading all the reviews we cannot possibly use this company to send our daughter away! Anyone have any info or direction on how we can safely explore au pair jobs in Australia leaving from Canada? Thanks!

<Anyone have any info or direction on how we can safely explore au pair jobs in Australia leaving from Canada?>

I'm sorry - but employment related questions don't belong on TripAdvisor forums for a reason. Imagine if someone gave you very wrong information. You might pay a visit to the local board or the countries labor department website - and look for information there. I'm glad you opted to NOT pay an agency for things you can research on your own and do yourself. But, you will have to do more research.

It would seem that the Global Work and Travel Co's tactics have been exposed by the ABC's 7:30 report, and that there are multiple cases which have been referred to various regulators in Queensland. Has anyone else any negative experiences while travelling with this company and how would you recommend avoiding further interaction with the company?

Rather than starting a new thread/post, why not just attach this at the end of the last thread you posted on?? We should really try to keep information in one post for the next person who comes along. Post here (link below), then come back to this post and click report inappropriate content, then remove my post.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g1-i12357-k6952832-Global_work_Travle_Co-Solo_Travel.html

Tripadvisor staff removed this post because it made false or speculative claims about Tripadvisor and its staff, or it quoted or summarised private correspondence from Tripadvisor staff.

It must have closed recently. There's one here, too (See below). There are actually about a half dozen threads in the forum. I guess the reason some of them close is because TripAdvisor is supposed to be about travel advice, not work advice - so employment makes the topic cross the line. In addition, there is no review capability for agencies like this, so even reviewing travel agencies is somewhat out of bounds of the guidelines. Sorry about steering you in the wrong direction - I just like less threads with more posts.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g1-i12357-k7842635-Global_Travel_and_work-Solo_Travel.html

It is kind of in the name that the company is mostly about travel, and many of their customers travel on volunteer holidays, not working holidays (not to mention that they sell themselves on the travel aspect and do not market themselves as an employment agency). It is also the 'travel' part were clients seemed to get slugged with excessive fees, as per the news source. It is much more likely that the company itself is reporting the content and Tripadvisor is then removing or closing it. The previous thread you referred me to closed for comments in March (I know this as I was keeping an eye on it at the time!)

Tripadvisor staff removed this post because it did not meet Tripadvisor's forum posting guidelines with regards to family-friendly language and/or subject matter.

Hi my son has just paid his deposit to go to Brisbane. He spoke to someone called Rebecca who seemed helpful. He was told that he would be given a phone on arrival, accommodation for 2 weeks and a job, plus a choice of an activity, he chose surfing lessons at surfers paradise. After reading reviews I'm really worried. Can anyone give me some advice please?

Jackie.......There have been a number of posts regarding this company. If you read the entire contents of this particular thread, you will see blue text taking you to other posts (just click on the blue writing) . You could also put the company name in the search box at the of this page, which will pull up even more threads and posts.

Hopefully al these posts will better inform your son about his choice of company.

In addition to the excellent advice offered by mcpinder, make sure to put the title of the post into a google search and read ALL those links as well - Global Work and Travel Co Reviews - google search. Seems like there have been news advocacy stories, etc. done, as well. There is no substitution for doing good research before spending such a large sum of money on anything.

Do not. Dont even try to make light of the company. I was robbed of all my money and in Surfers Paradise Australia finding my own job and own accommodations.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/global-work-travel-customers-describe-working-holiday-nightmares-1.2829993

I don't see anyone making light of them. All I see is some excellent advice about making sure you do a bit of research before parting with any money.

I wasn't sure at first about going with such a big company. I didn't want to get lost in the system with the chunders of other applicants; however I took that chance because I read so many great reviews and started my application process. I emailed inquiring about some programs and within the next few days I was contacted straight away and had any questions answered by the salesperson (he was very helpful and honest with all the questions I had asked etc). After I was in the next stage I was passed on the representative if you will who has been so so very helpful throughout the application, matching, pre-departure processes etc. I am very please with the prompt and honest responses I have received, and I would highly recommend this agency as they have been so helpful.

In the beginning of calling Global Work & Travel Co. I was nervous! But after booking my deposit, I realized I was more excited than nervous! This company is great and they answer all the questions I had and provided great feedback on what’s provided and what’s not.

Jemma was fantastic to deal with. I could not have asked for better support throughout this planning period. I looked into your company because I was looking for comfort and reassurance and Jemma's support and knowledge of the program made this whole experience less frustrating and very pleasant.

Would highly recommend Global Work & Travel if you're looking to do a working holiday. I originally tried to organise my Canada Visa myself and was struggling until I found these guys. They helped me out with every process along the way and it were super easy to contact. Being assigned to an agent the whole time made a really personal experience too. Keep in mind to be flexible with your travel plans though as they cannot achieve the impossible and find your dream job in an the perfect town. Hannah Henderson was my trip coordinator in Vancouver and made everything easy with prompt emails and answering all my questions. As long as you do your side of the paperwork and send them the info they need you definitely won't be disappointed. Thanks alot Global and cheers Hannah, Dylan and Mark for the help 5 stars!!!

Lauren, as a consumer I can fully appreciate your frustration, & as a parent I can also empathise with your anger. There have been many posts in this forum regarding the poor quality of service from this company, especially given their costs and fee's. It appears their contracts provide more benefits for them, rather than for their customers.

I really can't offer any practical advice, except to suggest that if you have a local consumer watchdog or advice service, they may be able to assist you. I'm not sure if naming and shaming on this company's Facebook page would be productive, as the company may be able to get the post removed.

Ultimately, your daughter and her friends lost out by limited research and catchy sales patter. I genuinely hope this doesn't put them off future travels, but instead they research, plan and take advice from wider travel information websites.

I wish you well in your endeavours to sort this out.

The service is excellent until they receive full payment. Once you are there, you should not have any expectations. Their sales pitch paints a picture of this amazing opportunity and experience allowing you to work and travel. Well I did not make a penny, not even enough to cover room & board. I was put in a job selling door-to-door, commission only. I am not a sales person. They did not even tell me it was this type of work until my first day on the job. When I could not make this work, they reminded me that they only promise one job placement and that they are not a placement company. They did refer me to another employer who was verbally abusive and refused to pay me after 2 weeks of working 7 days/week. Scary stuff. I basically paid them hundreds of dollars to be picked up from the airport upon arrival. I spent all the money I had saved before going on this trip, and had to come home early.

Global Work and Travel Company use high-pressure sales tactics that make young travellers feel their only chance of a successful overseas trip is to book through them. GWT offers very little in return and there is no cooling off period so when the potential traveller realises they have been ripped off (an hour later), they have already lost (at minimum) their AUD $695.00 deposit. BEWARE!

This post was determined to be inappropriate by the Tripadvisor community and has been removed.

Duplicate posting above.

I have sympathy for people in this predicament but also wonder at the niaivety.

"and pointing at the fine print in the contracts" - before parting with a lot of money and going to live and work in an unknown county surely you read the contract throughly. That's the point of contracts and what you should do before you sign them.

Never believe what you see on a website. They are set up to make the company look as good as possible. Research as much as you can. You can find out everything from reviews to others experience right down to what their offices look like, how many staff they have and what their finances for the business are like. An hour or two with a coffee.

Hopefully the awful experience will make these youngsters more savey for the rest of their lives and pass that skill on to others.

In this case (teens wanting to live abroad for a few years, and probably bouncing between trepidation and excitement) I think there's an element of "I've got to jump before I lose my nerve" that works in the scammers' favor. An expensive lesson, unfortunately.

Ugh....and the pattern continues. What amazes me is those people who are wronged always seem to find TripAdvisor AFTER entering into their agreement. Probably googl'd it after. Believe me, I understand all about marketing, but the time for research is BEFORE handing over your money. It's really quite easy for me and my mind thinks this way. We should ALL learn how to research first, because there are an abundant supply of shonky companies - GWAT and many others - so, it will happen. Sadly, a lesson learned.
