Great tasty food and a huge selection...something for everyone. Fish, crab, shrimp, beef, pork, pho, sushi, pizza, etc... The place is always busy and the staff is nice.

On a trip to and from Milwaukee, from Sioux Falls, looked for a Chinese Buffet to grab lunch at and was absolutely blown away by this great find in Madison, Wis. Literally everything that I tried was excellent IMO and I eat Asian food all... the time. This place was hands down, the best Buffet I have ever eaten at. Great selection of fresh Sushi, and quality Chinese food, though they advertise as being Japanese, the entrees were definitely Chinese and so was the staff. Good service, clean and appetizing. I would definitely go out of my way to eat here again if I am ever anywhere near Madison, Wi. again. More

In town for meetings and was hungry for Chinese food...reviews looked good, and I decided to give it a try. Early Saturday night dinner crowd had the place hopping, which is always good for fresh food. I was quickly seated, and drink orders taken...restaurant had... a very nice appearance, and staff was friendly. Lots of different sushi options and I was pleasantly surprised to find fresh oysters on the half shell as a buffet item!!! The buffet had most of the expected Chinese entrees and the hibachi grill was very nice. Staff did a great job of keeping fresh food supplied. More

I love "asian" buffets because I like to try just a bit of everything. I have eaten at buffets all over the country and I know I'm not getting the best food, but I usually find something I enjoy or that's unusual at each one.... Also, an asian buffet at lunch time is a very good value, good when you're functioning off a per diem like I am. The restaurant looks fine from the outside (also advertised as a banquet facility) and initially impressions are ok at first glance. But then you notice that lots of things are tired and worn out in the decor, kind of grungy. But hey, that's a lot of buffets in general. I come for food, not ambiance. The food is a letdown too. There were a lot of options for all types of food, including sushi. But none of it was very good or memorable. Everything looked like it had sat for a long time and the place was steady busy, not crowded. The hibachi area was kind of gross looking, as was the raw bar. Sushi variety was pretty good, not just the usual 7 variations on the California Roll, but the "raw" stuff didn't look very good. Service was friendly and quick, but I won't return here. There's too many other choices around. And at around $15 for dinner, it was kind of pricey for the quality of food. More

It's a decent place for some cheap sushi and chinese food. I usually do a buffet to-go and get a box of sushi for $15 or so. They have a dozen or so types of sushi that they make in-house. The hot food is ok.... Nothing spectacular that I'd take a date to, but good for comfort food. Love their custard and bean paste filled steam buns. More

This is by far the best China Buffett in the Madison, Baraboo, Sauk area. The sushi is top notch. They always have a great selection of rolls and awesome sashimi. The staff are very friendly and the hot food is good as well. It is... also the only place that I can find Lychee. I’ve been here over 20 times in the last few years and I’ll keep going back! More

A mix of Chinese, Japanense and American food. The sushi was fresh and they even had my favorite, crab salad sushi. They had both the regular and low sodium soy sauce. The fish was excellent! Dad had the option of seaweed salad and daikon, his... favorite! The reviews were good, so we used our GPS to locate this restaurant and went out of our way to enjoy an Easter Dinner. The waitress was so attentive, professional and so friendly. We highly recommend this restaurant! More

Recommended by a friend who lives in the Madison area. We were greeted with a smile and shown to our seats. Our drinks arrived quickly and off to check out the buffet. The choices were staggering. One whole section devoted to Sushi, a large salad... bar, an equally large desert bar. This before you reached the main course. Everything from pizza and french fries to little stuffed crabs and then the traditional Chinese Food fare. A carving station for prime rib topped it off. The food was tasty and constantly being checked up on and replenished. Our server was in constant attendance, keeping our table clean and ensuring all the extras were topped off and available. It was a great visit for a great price. We will definitely return. More

I’ve been here multiple times and I can say that it is my favorite place to get sushi in Madison. The price is excellent and the food is very good. I love the great shrimp that they have! They have a nice variety of sushi... and other awesome foods. They even have Lychee, which is practically impossible to find anywhere else! More

The Journey Sushi & Seafood Buffet (4325 Lien Rd, Madison, WI 53704) is the best buffet in town. If you like sushi, seafood, or Chinese food this is the place to go. The food is always fresh and we'll presented. The hot food is always... hot without being dry or overcooked unlike other buffets that keep the food hot by turning up the burners and drying out the food. I especially like the variety of seafood from crab to all kinds of shrimp. They even have oysters on the half shell! The selection of Chinese food is impressive and very tasty. Their grill is great and you can select the items you want and they will grill them for you. The restaurant is very clean with excellent lighting and a large number of booths and tables to select from. The staff are very friendly and are very attentive to customer needs. The price is fantastic with dinner at $12.85...WOW! Try this place and you will be a regular like I am. ENJOY! More

I went this evening to celebrate a special birthday. Their website said they had prime roast beef. You had to "carve" the "meat" yourself. It was dry, tasteless and my hard sole shoes would have been more tender than this disgusting piece of shoe leather... on my plate. The best part of the dinner was either (a) the flat Diet Pepsi or (b) when it was time to leave. We told the hostess how terrible our meal was and all she could say was to ask if I would be paying with a credit card or with cash! I ended up paying for one meal only. PLEASE, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR STOMACH AND EAT ELSEWHERE. More

We've been to The Journey 4-5 times since it opened. Each time we visit, the food gets progressively worse. There's too much to choose from and buffet selections sit on the steam table until they are dried up and visually unappealing. There are so many... other choices in Madison. Life is too short to eat heart-numbing quantities of sub-par food. More

If you're looking for an incredible amount of food for $13.95 this is your place. Just don't expect the food to be fresh, appealing or a good dining atmosphere. It's noisy, crowded with families galore. They have sections that serve sushi, a grill, main courses,... salads, soups and desserts. The food was mediocre at best with foods that should be hot served luke warm and items that should be crispy served soggy. If you're hungry and want a lot to eat but don't care what you're eating this is your place! Conveniently located near shopping centers on Madison's East side. More

We dined on Tuesday night and there were lots of people but not a crowd. The selection on the buffet is really good in all areas. Food quality was all over the place. The Egg Roll was not warm and had been in the pan... a long time. The inside was good but the outside was hard and dried. The Pot stickers were good. The Chicken on a stick was outstanding. The fried shrimp as good and the cold shrimp was old. The Seafood Delight was really good and most everything else was just cold. Other entree items were so so. The salads were a disappointment as well as the deserts. The cake was all dried out and must have been on the plate for hours. The pudding was stale according to my wife. Service was good. Overall, very disappointed with the quality of the food. The wife says we ARE NOT GOING BACK. That sums it up. More

they had lots of choices especially seafood, I don't eat sushi but the bar looks really good. definitely a lot of choices for everyone and worth the price. Fact the price point was very fair I think for what was offered.

“Lucky find while Traveling” Review of The Journey Sushi and Seafood Buffet

Great selection of fresh Sushi, and quality Chinese food, though they advertise as being Japanese, the entrees were definitely Chinese and so was the staff. Good service, clean and appetizing. I would definitely go out of my way to eat here again if I am ever anywhere near Madison, Wi. again.

We tried Journey for lunch because we wanted dine in and there weren't many options for sushi other than take out. The parking lot does not inspire confidence. The blacktop is in poor repair and we wondered at first whether it was still open, but there were many cars. Pros: - Extremely wide selection of sushi items and some hot items like pork dumplings, noodles, fried items. Pho is available made to order at the back counter, and it looked like you could also get noodles made to order. - Masks are required under city ordinance. Although it is still a buffet, diners need to use disposable gloves to go through. - The items we ate were generally flavorful and good. - The service was quick. We were seated within a minute or so of arrival, in a booth with other booths separating us from other diners. The waitress was friendly and fast with our drinks. - Very, very inexpensive for sushi. The lunch buffet was $10. Cons: - The women's bathroom. Had we used the bathroom before we ate instead of after, we probably would not have stayed. It smelled quite bad and appeared to have some flood damage and peeling paint. - The building and the parking lot are worn; it doesn't seem much money is being put into upkeep. In areas the carpet looked frayed, and there were some torn seats in booths and waiting areas. - Some of the items were obviously mislabeled. For example, there was a tray of sushi with a white fish next to a tray with pink fish. The white fish was labeled "salmon" and the pink was labeled "whitefish." Someone with food allergies maybe wouldn't eat at a buffet anyway, but they'd need to take extra care here.
