Cycling: Picturesque Quabbin ride still a trying task

Spectacular views of the Quabbin Reservoir, a historic covered bridge, and plenty of watermelon at the end of the day.

Sounds like a leisurely day on the bike.

But throw in some tough hills with more than 7,000 feet of climbing, and the King’s Tour of the Quabbin becomes a royal challenge.

Presented by Seven Hills Wheelmen, the King’s Tour of the Quabbin will be held June 10. The popular recreational ride has three options — a double metric century, which is 200 kilometers or 125 miles; a century, 100 miles; and a metric century, 100 kilometers or 62 miles. All three courses start at Naquag Elementary School on Route 122A (Main Street) in Rutland.

The 125-miler is a longer course, but the 100-mile route may be more challenging with more than 7,000 feet of climbing. The ride features a loop around the Quabbin on roads with little traffic. The 100-miler includes about 20 miles of tough roller-coaster hills along Route 202 on the west side of the Quabbin. The double metric century, with 6,700 feet of climbing, covers gentler grades.

The best view of the Quabbin Reservoir may be the second rest stop of the century in Ware. The Quabbin Hill lookout gives riders a chance to see the expanse of the reservoir, one of the largest man-made water supplies in the country.

From Rutland, all the routes head uphill on Route 122 to Barre, and the 100-mile and 125-mile routes travel clockwise around the Quabbin.

The metric century (62 miles) splits off in Ware, with a spectacular downhill return to Hardwick via the covered bridge in the Gilbertville section of Hardwick. The metric century riders then enjoy a flat stretch of Route 32 into South Barre before the final climbs in Oakham and Rutland.

The century and double metric century riders climb from Route 9 to the lookout tower in the Quabbin Reservation at the 44-mile mark, then descend to Belchertown, where the two long routes diverge. The century riders face 20 miles of roller-coaster hills heading north on Route 202 while the double metric course heads into Amherst and loops back through Shutesbury and Wendell with some easier terrain.

The Quabbin ride began more than 20 years ago when Dick “The King” Avery was challenged by a few friends in the Seven Hills Wheelmen. Avery was called the Pole King from his days installing and climbing telephone poles for the phone company. The ride has expanded from two or three dozen riders to several hundred.

The 125-miler begins at 7 a.m., the 100-miler at 8, and the 62-miler at 9. The ride is held rain or shine. Cue sheets are available for the arrowed routes and snacks are provided, including watermelon after the ride.

Preregistration is available at sevenhillswheelmen.org. The preregistration cost is $15 for Seven Hills members, $20 for nonmembers, and the deadline is June 7. The day-of-event cost is $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers.

To get to the Naquag Elementary School on Route 122A, take Interstate 190 to Exit 2, follow the signs to Holden and go west on West Mountain Street/Doyle Street, left onto Shrewsbury Street, right onto Main Street/Route 122A; stay on Route 122A north into Rutland and school is at top of the hill on left.

The third annual Ride for Reason will be held at 9 a.m. June 9.

The charity ride, which offers 15-, 30- and 50-mile routes, starts and finishes at the First Congregational Church of Holden on Main Street. The ride benefits the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Worcester.

The routes travel along rolling hills through communities north of Worcester, including Holden, Leominster, West Boylston, Sterling and Princeton.

Registration is $15 with a minimum fundraising of $200, or $65 with no fundraising minimum.

The 15-mile route begins at the church, heads down Highland Street to River Street, into West Boylston and around the Thomas Basin of the Wachusett Reservoir, back down River, to Wachusett Street and Malden Street. There is a midpoint rest stop at the First Congregational Church in West Boylston.

The 30-mile route travels from Holden into West Boylston toward the Wachusett Reservoir, along the Thomas Basin and north into Sterling, then onto Route 62 into Princeton. The route then heads south, including a stretch on Coal Kiln Road with rolling fields, and then heads back onto Route 31 and into Holden. The loop has a rest stop at the First Church in Sterling.

The 50-mile option meanders through Holden then toward Wachusett Reservoir into West Boylston, along the Thomas Basin north toward Sterling, along Route 12 north into Leominster and Fitchburg, then south on Route 31 into Princeton, to Route 62, then Route 140 back into West Boylston, and returns to Holden.

The Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Worcester is a network of religious communities in Greater Worcester that came together about 13 years ago to create shelter for homeless families with children.

Bicycles battling cancer

The fourth annual Bicycles Battling Cancer Ride takes place June 10 at the Bolton Fairgrounds in Lancaster. The ride, which raises money for the American Cancer Society, features three routes — 100 miles, 62 miles and 35 miles.

The 35-mile route heads north into Shirley, Groton, Ayer and Harvard. The 65-mile loop heads south toward Clinton, Berlin, Northboro, Westboro, Upton and Milford, then returns north through Ashland, Southboro, Marlboro, Hudson and Bolton. The 100-mile route is a combination of the shorter rides.

Registration is $100 and the minimum fundraising is $300. For more information, visit cancer.org/bicyclesbattlingcancer.

‘You Can See the Hate In His Face’: Steve Harvey Gives Bernie Mac the Side Eye During ‘Kings of Comedy’ Promo Tour In Resurfaced Clip

Rumors of turmoil between Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey ‘s working relationship have circulated in Hollywood for years. Fellow comedians and insiders, including Katt Williams , suggest that the dynamic between the two was fueled by competition and perhaps jealousy on the part of the “Family Feud” host.

Now an old video of the two comedians promoting the “Kings of Comedy” tour has resurfaced, sparking speculation on social media about Steve’s feelings toward the star of “The Bernie Mac Show.”

Steve Harvey's recent post has fans revisiting his past beef with late comedian Bernie Mac.

In a resurfaced clip posted by @Iam_big_bankz, Bernie is delivering a joke during a radio interview, with a young Cedric The Entertainer cracking up and D.L. Hughley seeming to be concentrating on the joke.

Steve, however, is seen on the side with what looks like a sour face. While the excerpt is possibly out of context, social media detectives say the evidence is clear: In the clip “Steve is hating hard.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Big Bankz (@iam_big_bankz)

Others also chimed in.

“U can see the hate in his face,” one person wrote. Another person added, “Ohh shiiii, it’s all out of the box now [two laughing emojis] Steve has some explaining to do.”

A third comment read, “Steve over there figuring out which jokes he is going to steal.” A fourth online user said, “They knew Bernie was the ONE !!!!”

To some, the short clip appears to show Harvey’s “envy, jealousy and hate” for Mac, including one person who said, “To me, it looks like he was just looking at Bernie.”

Some people who saw the original footage claim the camera was cut before Steve got a chance to laugh. They believe the video was edited to fuel the “narrative” about their beef. “Yup. Steve Harvey always looks like this, but you know… divide and conquer.”

Still, multiple comedy insiders have publicly spoken about the “Think Like A Man” author’s true feelings about Bernie from their perspective.

D.L. said during his interview with DJ Vlad in 2018 that the beef between Steve and Bernie stopped a sequel from being done. According to the fellow “Kings of Comedy” star, Steve was the top dog and was getting a lot of mainstream success, “and then Bernie started to get it,” which became a problem.

The third “King of Comedy,” Cedric claims they pushed through their differences on the original tour but the tension blocked them from doing a second comedy tour.

“They both alpha males. They both…they just saw it different,” he explained. “But at the end of the day, they was able to get through it.”

Radio personality Ed Lover confirmed the tension when he heard that Steve wanted Bernie’s role in “Ocean’s Eleven” and even told the producers he was willing to take less money to play the role of Frank Catton.

“All I can say is what Bernie told me,” the “Yo! MTV Raps host” said during an interivew on “The Culture Club Uncensored.” “And he was upset with Steve because he said Steve tried to get him taken off of Ocean’s — the Ocean’s movie he did … and tried to vie for his part after he already got hired. And, uh, Bernie never lied to me. That’s all I’m going to say. He was my friend. I loved him.”

Katt took it a step further in his interview on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast. He claims he turned down the chance to do “Kings of Comedy 2” because of the way that Steve “s—ted on Bernie.”

The “Pimpin’ Pimpin’” comedian said Steve started a narrative that he went last because he was funnier than Bernie. According to Katt, Steve didn’t share with many that it was his tour and that was why he ended the show.

“The reason you were supposed to go last because it was your tour, tell the truth,” he said. “It was Steve’s tour… These are the guys opening for him. Of course, you got to close if it’s your tour.”

Well done, Katt Williams. I have been saying from day one that Bernie Mac was this funniest man on "Kings of Comedy" Rest in Paradise 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/JJeo6t89Rh — Unbothered (@Jersefinest8) January 4, 2024

Until “he humbles himself,” Katt said Steve will forever be “kinged by the king” Mac.

“That man was funnier than all of y’all and y’all thought y’all had one over on him,” he explained. “You thought he was black and ugly and you were good looking and he couldn’t make it because you did … and that ain’t the way comedy work. The king is the funniest.”

Bernie Mac’s daughter, Je’Niece McCullough, that she knew that the industry was cutthroat and that people just didn’t get along during a video taken while on Instagram Live.

She said that her dad knew that a lot of people didn’t like or appreciate him, giving her this tidbit of advice: “If you ever want to be loved by anyone… If you ever want to be special … just die.”

Bernie Mac passed away on Aug. 9, 2008, which was about eight years after the conclusion of the “Kings of Comedy” tour. He was 50. The tour ended in early 2000, marking the last time Steve and Bernie worked together.

See Exact Replicas of King Tut’s Treasures in His Recreated Tomb

By nick keppler | may 10, 2024.

Replicas of golden sarcophagi are showcased in “Tutankhamun: His Tomb and His Treasures.”

When British archaeologist Howard Carter entered the tomb of King Tutankhamen in 1922, it had been mostly untouched for 3200 years. Flooding and debris from the construction of subsequent tombs in the Valley of the Kings worked to conceal the catacomb, saving it from centuries’ worth of plunderers. Inside was the mother lode of Egyptian artifacts: more than 5000 items , including artworks, handicrafts, jewelry, shrines, furniture, and ceremonial weapons—all part of the elaborate funeral rites that plunged Egyptian rulers into the land of the dead in ostentatious style.

A convention center in Washington, D.C., is recreating the chambers as Carter found them. In May, the Rhode Island Center became the latest venue to host “ Tutankhamun : His Tomb and His Treasures,” an “immersive” traveling exhibit with over 1000 replicas of artifacts found in Carter’s expedition.

A sculpture of Anubis, Egyptian god who cares for the dead, at the King Tut exhibit.

Semmel Concerts, the German event promoter behind the project, says they hired Egyptian artisans to painstakingly recreate the objects in consultation with Egyptologists [ PDF ]. An advisor to the project told Smithsonian that they had access to the originals and 3D scans of them and a team of craftspeople, lapidaries, and sculptors used a combination of plaster molds, resin, alloys, and glass appliques to recreate the artifacts down to the fine details.

Replicated artifacts arranged as Howard Carter found them in King Tut's tomb in 1922.

Replicating the objects in King Tut’s tomb for public display is a practice almost as old as the tomb’s discovery. Carter’s excavation created a Beatlemania-like craze in the West for all things related to ancient Egypt. While Carter and the Egyptian government haggled over the items, an artist and an Egyptologist used photographs to create replicas for a 1924 London exhibit of items from across the British Empire—though Egypt was newly independent, which helped the country assert its claim on the items as pieces of cultural heritage.

Replicas of golden figures discovered in King Tut’s tomb.

In the late 1970s , as a byproduct of U.S. diplomacy, Egypt allowed some contents of the tomb to tour museums in six cities for a blockbuster exhibit. A vast majority of those artifacts are now in the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo and Egyptian antiquity laws have prevented another exhibit abroad.

Meanwhile, like a good cover band, the exhibit in Washington is presenting all the greatest hits from King Tut’s tomb: the scowling statute of Anubis with gold trim, the golden chariot, the wall paintings filled with iconography, the instantly recognizable striped golden burial mask , the models of ships and the gilded statues of servants meant to usher the boy king into the afterlife, and the multilayered sarcophagus that held the king’s mummy. Many are arranged, approximately, the way Carter found them to create a wraparound art experience like the recent exhibits that have put Van Gogh and Monet into 3D.

King Charles Fired Off 6 Words to Drunk Reporters on Tour

When members of the royal family go on tours , members of the press go with them.

The journalists are there to cover the tour by reporting on the engagements being carried out and other work being done as well as making sure they get plenty of photos showcasing the purpose of the trip. But after a long day of work and travel, some reporters try to unwind and enjoy themselves while abroad.

But as a royal correspondent recalled, there was one boozy night when some had a little too much fun while on tour with King Charles and their antics got the monarch pretty angry when they disrupted his routine. Here’s more on that, plus how the late Queen Elizabeth II handled things when her staffers got drunk while partying at Buckingham Palace.

King Charles’ 6 words for royal reporters who were drunk and loud

Jennie Bond, who has been working on the royal beat for more than three decades, talked about what happened when she covered then-Prince Charles’ trip to Fraser Island off the coast of Brisbane, Australia one year.

Bond gave the OK! magazine the details revealing: “When you’re traveling with the royals and when you’re traveling with other reporters, there are a lot of laughs along the way. One moment I remember was when we were flown to Fraser Island after a very busy tour of Australia with Charles.

“We all stayed in the same hotel and we journalists all did very loud karaoke in the bar. Charles had said he was going to come down, but he didn’t in the end. I have to confess that we reporters then sat in a hot tub outside under the stars surrounded by wine bottles having a lovely time.”

But their “lovely time” was filled with a lot of noise as the future king tried to sleep. And as Bond explained, even though he never joined them that evening, Charles heard them.

“The next morning when Charles came down he said, ‘Was that you lot making all that bloody awful noise?” He then fired off six words telling everyone: “You kept me awake all night!'”

Queen Elizabeth once had to deal with noisy, drunk people as well but it wasn’t on a royal tour; it was in her home.

The late queen had almost 200 staffers who worked in the royal household at Buckingham Palace. The massive residence has a post office on site, a doctor’s surgery, an ATM machine, and at one time it had a saloon for the Palace employees. But according to Queen Elizabeth’s former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, when those employees couldn’t handle their liquor and got too loud their boss made the decision  to close the bar down .

In the documentary  Secrets of the Royal Palaces , Arbiter explained the staffers got “too worse for wear” and unlike her son, the queen wasn’t going to lose sleep so she “had to get rid” of it.

CBS SF talks to Slayer guitarist Kerry King about his new band's debut album, upcoming tour

By Eddie Jorgensen

May 9, 2024 / 7:21 AM PDT / CBS San Francisco

For the uninitiated, Slayer's co-founding guitarist Kerry King has been at the forefront of thrash metal for almost four decades. With a style that encapsulates the finer moments of thrash, punk and metal, King's songs have been the soundtrack to many head-banging youths with such song staples as "Mandatory Suicide," "Hell Awaits," and "Raining Blood."

As the debut his new band's latest single "Idle Hands" proved, longtime Slayer fans didn't have to worry if the guitarist softened since Slayer's farewell tour back in November 2019. Said Kerry -- who ceremoniously left his trademark chains behind as he walked offstage at the last Slayer gig -- "I knew early on that I wasn't done, and I had no intention of not continuing to play."

Kerry King

With principle tracks recorded at Henson Studios in Los Angeles over the course of only two weeks, From Hell I Rise  was finished shortly thereafter. Featuring 13 blistering tracks including standouts "Crucifixation," "Toxic," "Residue," and the highly infectious "Tension," there isn't a dud to be found. And with song structures and topics that could only come from Slayer's axeman, this soundtrack to the apocalypse -- available on all formats on May 17th Reigning Phoenix Music -- is sure to incite riotous behavior and circle pits wherever the band performs.

Much more than a side project, Kerry King -- both the band and the man -- are on a mission and putting the group at the forefront of all conversations. While Slayer may have announced reunion appearances at a trio of festivals in the fall (including one at Aftershock 2024 in Sacramento ), King and his new band will be on the road as much as humanly possible. Started well before the pandemic, King has been a writing machine and, perhaps, even more prolific than during his full-time Slayer tenure.

And while there is much chatter going on about Slayer returning this year, From Hell I Rise  showcases one helluva line-up and is much more than a distraction from current events. Featuring some of Bay Area's best including longtime Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph (who also once played in Forbidden), guitarist Phil Demmel (formerly with Vio-Lence and Machine Head, who is also a member of the recently unveiled supergroup Category 7 featuring Armored Saint and former Anthrax frontman John Bush), and Death Angel vocalist Mark Osegueda along with bassist Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah), there is more than enough firepower to appease even the most devout Slayer fan.

As luck would have it, the band will be supporting Lamb Of God and Mastodon on a stateside trek dubbed the "Ashes of Leviathan Tour" that sees them crisscrossing the U.S. starting July 19th in Grand Prairie, TX and then ultimately ending in La Vista, Nebraska at the close of August.

CBS SF:  Just finally listened to the new album as a whole and it's a great listen from top to bottom. How long have these songs been ruminating? Were any of these riffs meant for Slayer originally?

Kerry King: There are two complete songs on this album that were left over from 'Repentless' and they were even done lyrically then, but I wasn't thrilled with how they turned out. I put them back in my pocket until the next Slayer record, but there never was a next record, so that became part of my new record.  Some of these riffs, like the main body of 'Residue,' is probably over 20 years old. I could never find the parts to finish it. This time I was able to. It's one of those songs that I always knew I wanted to use, but didn't want to put it out prematurely. There's tons of stuff I wrote since Slayer was done. There's also tons of stuff I wrote since 'From Hell I Arise' was done, so record number two is shaping up nicely as well.

CBS SF:  Your band features a veritable who's who of the Bay Area metal scene. Why that area in particular?

Kerry King: I didn't think of it like that, but that's just how it panned out. I've known these guys -- especially, everybody from the Bay Area -- for decades.  All of them except Mark [Osegueda] needed work. Certainly Paul and I were out of work. Phil Demmel was also out of work, but he put his name in the hat very early and worked with us doing demos off and on. Every five or six weeks, he'd come down to play and we'd sound better.

Using the demos we had, Phil would send new ideas whenever had new material. Phil's an incredible player and Mark's one of the best singers in thrash metal, without question. The pulse of thrash definitely comes from there. We were a little displaced because we were in Southern California, but at the end of the day, so was Metallica.

I met Kyle in 2015 on the Mayhem Tour and we became friends very quickly. I knew that if I ever wanted a bassist, that's who I'd be calling. He's my East Coast connection. Paul's been working with me on and off since the early 90's, so the talent and the friendship is there. I'm happy I could help the guys out when they didn't have work. Right now, I get to go forward and show everybody what we got.

CBS SF: A full U.S. tour is already on the books. Do you plan to stay as busy with the KKB in 2025?

Kerry King: Absolutely. I would like to get something filled up between October and December 2024, but if the promoters think that's too early, then it will be soon after the New Year as business picks up again. Five weeks in Europe is very short for any kind of tour, be it festivals, or whatever. We want to go back and do a proper headline tour over there. We'll probably come to the States and do a proper headline tour or shift gears and put our other record out. We will be busy for sure.

CBS SF:  Do you prefer festivals over headlining dates?

Kerry King: That's difficult. I like both. If I had my choice, I would probably say a headlining date.  When you're doing festivals, you're just a pawn in a sea of bands that are there to entertain a mass of people, so there's too many cooks in the kitchen, so to speak.

CBS SF:  Any songs that didn't make the record?

Kerry King: Absolutely.  Within three months of Paul and I getting together, we had so many songs.  I said, "Hey dude, let's shift gears and finish the ones I've already got lyrics or titles for, or just songs making this record, so we aren't spinning our wheels and getting burned out." Before we called those songs, we made demos of them however far along they were at that point, and those are ones I'm going to readdress when I start working on stuff again. Actually, when I finally go on tour, during days off I'm going to really try to finish lyrics and stuff. When I come home and when the tour cycle is over, we can go right back in the studio and get more music out.

CBS SF:  Why no Bay Area show scheduled so far? Seems like your biggest market aside from Los Angeles and New York.

Kerry King: I'll bet that Lamb of God has played the Bay Area recently. There's no New York City show either, so I'm assuming Lamb of God had shows there awhile ago as well. We're playing the sheds in some B & C markets, but when we come back we'll be hitting the other places.

CBS SF:  What are your earliest memories of touring alongside Mark Osegueda previous to joining the band? What about Phil Demmel?

Kerry King: My earliest memories are all gone, because that was probably 40 years ago. I've known Mark since he was a teenager singing in Death Angel. I remember them opening for us because Mark always reminds me he did when he was not even 18 years old and still a kid. Beyond that, Death Angel did an opening run for us in around 2016 or 2017. Before that, it was basically different circles.

As far as Phil goes, I knew Phil in Vio-Lence, but really I don't remember that period either. We'd already toured with Machine Head lots and unless we were playing the same festivals and we turned up at the same place, I would never see him. However, every time if I was off and he came through or he was off and I came through, we'd hang to talk music and stuff.

CBS SF:  Have you worked with anyone else outside of your band that has music recorded for possible release someday?

Kerry King: No. This isn't a solo project. Kerry King [the band] happens to have my name on it. This is my band and will be until we decide no longer to be one. Hopefully, that's when we're all done and want to hang it up to go sit on our porch and watch a bucket of grass grow. These are my guys now, so get used to them.

Kristi Noem’s increasingly bizarre Kim Jong Un story

The South Dakota governor’s book tour is a testament to the GOP’s Trump-era push to never back down and focus instead on planting seeds of doubt.

king's tour of the quabbin

“This is really a book that talks about how we’re not going back,” South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem (R) told CBS News on Sunday. “We’re not going back to the days before Donald Trump. Donald Trump broke politics. And I think that’s a good thing.”

Noem, a potential Trump VP pick, is certainly right about his breaking politics, but perhaps not in the way she meant.

Her game attempt to proceed with a media tour promoting her book despite alleged inaccuracies and a story about killing her dog is a testament to the thoroughly Trumpian impulse to just push on through — while avoiding facts.

To recap: Not only has Noem faced bipartisan backlash for her story about her young dog Cricket, but other anecdotes in the book have also been called into question in recent days . There’s the meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un that seems unlikely to have happened. And there is the meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron she says she canceled, and the threatening conversation with former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley she says she recalled. (Representatives for Macron and Haley have rejected her accounts.)

Through it all, Noem and her office have offered shifting accounts and, especially on the Kim story, proven bizarrely evasive.

After the South Dakota Scout last week questioned the Kim meeting — there is no record of it; Noem was a backbencher in Congress at the time; and relations between the countries were especially frosty, leading some experts to conclude there’s no way it took place — Noem and her office set about cleaning up.

Her spokesman initially cited “ conflated world leaders’ names in the book ” and said they would be addressed — a clear suggestion that Kim was mixed up with someone else.

But since then, Noem has declined repeated attempts to explain the situation. She won’t even say that she didn’t meet Kim.

CBS anchors asked her twice Sunday and twice more Monday whether she met with Kim, and Noem punted each time.

“I’m saying that I’m not talking about that meeting — I’m not talking about my meetings with world leaders,” Noem said Monday morning.

Pressed one more time on whether she met with Kim, Noem responded: “That’s the answer that I have for you, is that it will be adjusted” in the book.

Part of the problem with Noem’s saying she met Kim is that his first known foreign trip after taking power in 2011 was in 2018 . Her book claims she met him before then.

CBS’s Margaret Brennan posited that Noem had never been to North Korea. Noem responded, “I have been there.” But she proceeded to talk about visiting the demilitarized zone, or DMZ, between North and South Korea.

“There are details in this book that talk about going to the DMZ and specifics that I’m willing to share,” Noem said. “There’s some specifics I’m not willing to share with you.”

Does Noem want people to believe the meeting might have actually happened but she just can’t talk about it? That’s difficult to square with the initial comment about conflating world leaders’ names. And even if the newer implication is correct, it would mean she put a meeting she wasn’t supposed to talk about in her book, which could certainly lead to questions about her judgment.

Noem was also evasive Sunday when Brennan noted that Noem recorded the audio edition of her book.

“You didn’t catch these errors when you were recording it?” Brennan asked. (Noem’s office has admitted to using an incorrect date for the phone call with Haley.)

Noem avoided the question, saying merely: “Well, Margaret, as soon as it was brought to my attention, I took action to make sure that it was reflected.”

Noem has set about claiming persecution by the media, noting the number of times Brennan interrupted her, for instance.

“What I talk about in the book extensively, when people are able to get it on Tuesday, is to see the whole story and the truth, not the spin that the media has put on this story,” Noem said.

She added later: “I hope that they will buy it. They’ll find a lot of truthful stories.”

As for one of the book’s most publicized stories, though, it appears the truth just can’t — or won’t — be told.

King Charles and Prince Harry

Keeping the distance.

Prince Harry reportedly declined King Charles’ invitation to stay in a royal residence during his recent trip to London, according to the Sunday Times .

The Duke of Sussex — who used to live at the Frogmore Cottage alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, before stepping down from his royal duties in 2020 — opted to stay in a hotel, per royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah.

King Charles and Prince Harry

Harry landed in the U.K. on May 7 for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which was hosted at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

At the time, he confirmed through his rep that his dad would be unable to meet with him during his nearly four-day trip abroad.

“In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program, ” a spokesperson for the father of two told Page Six on May 7.

“The duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

Several insiders told Page Six that Harry also extended an invitation to the games to other royal family members. However, they didn’t show up amid ongoing tension .

Harry’s sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, remains out of the public eye as she undergoes cancer treatment.

Prince William and Harry

As for Prince William, their feud stems even deeper as we previously revealed the brothers haven’t talked in over a year following the release of the duke’s 2023 memoir, “ Spare .”

Meanwhile, Harry was met with open arms by his mom Princess Diana’s family as several of them attended the games.

Insiders told us he was embraced by his uncle Earl Spencer and aunt Lady Jane Fellowes at the event Wednesday.
