New River Train Excursion. Oct 2017 • Couples. We arrived at Huntington, WV and boarded the train at 7:00 a.m. October 28, 2017. We had stayed at the Fairfield Inn about 10 minutes away from the depot. The motel provided a shuttle to the depot. The breakfast on the train (we were in the Super Dome) was awesome.

New River Train Excursion
We took the New River Train Fall Excursion. The Train, hosted by the Collis P Huntington Railroad Historic Society, featured 30 vintage rail cars on a trip through New River Gorge to Hinton. We rode the Overland Trail, a lounge car from the 50's. It was beautifully preserved, comfortable, and a great ride for the trip.
New River Train Excursions
The train is 28 cars long and is pulled by 3 Amtrak locomotives. We rode in the St. Augustine, a 46 seat Pullman coach built in 1954 and renovated in 1986. The one complaint was the condition of the windows which looked like the glass needed to be replaced.
