  • Visits to renowned wineries in both Napa and Sonoma, unlocking the essence of California’s Wine Country.
  • Stops at the Oxbow Public Market in the morning and the delightful Sonoma Square during lunchtime. Choose from a diverse range of lunch options, catering to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free preferences..
  • An extended lunch break, granting you ample time to savor wine tastings or explore the boutiques and art galleries of Sonoma Square.
  • Entertaining live narration from your knowledgeable guide, offering insights into the rich history of Wine Country.
  • The opportunity to snap memorable photos of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge (if starting your tour in San Francisco).
  • Bottled water and granola bars, ensuring you stay refreshed and energized throughout the journey.
  • Cups provided if you decide to bring wine onto the bus.
  • The opportunity to stay overnight in Wine Country

What is not included in the tour?

  • The price of breakfast/morning snacks at Oxbow Market and lunch.
  • Tasting fees at the wineries are not included and are charged extra by the wineries, compensating them for the wine they pour for guests. Some tasting fees can be higher in the region, but we work hard to cultivate relationships with our winery partners in order to keep the fees at an average of $10-$35 per person, per winery. Because of our partnerships, almost any of the wineries on our shared group tours will often waive a tasting fee with wine purchase or club membership.

How long is the tour?

If you are starting and ending in San Francisco: The tour is 9 hours in duration. The tour departs at 8:00 AM, and ends with drop-off at approximately 5:00 PM back at your meeting point (710 Beach Street – Fisherman’s Wharf).

If you are starting and ending in Napa: The tour is 6 hours in duration. The tour departs at 10:00am and ends with drop-off at approximately 4:00 PM back at your meeting point (Oxbow Public Market, Napa).

What should I bring?

Before embarking on your wine adventure, ensure you have your valid ID, as the legal drinking age in the United States is 21 years.

California’s weather can be quite varied, so we recommend dressing in layers for comfort throughout the day. Consider bringing a hat, and sunglasses to shield yourself from the sun.

While our tour offers a rich array of experiences, please have some money with you for purchasing food and wine during the tour.

How long do we spend at each winery?

The wine tasting experience lengths may vary, however most are approximately one hour in duration, giving you plenty of time to sample the wines and learn about the winemaking processes and history.

Are vegetarian and gluten-free options available?

Yes, many of the restaurants offer vegetarian and/or gluten-free selections, so you should be able to find options that meet your dietary needs easily.

Can we leave a tip for the driver/guide?

Tips are very much appreciated. It is customary to offer a gift of 15-20% for your guide if you had a great day on your tour!

Can we eat and drink on the bus?

Yes, you may eat and drink on the bus. All we ask is that you drink responsibly and please avoid red wine.

Which wineries do you go to?

Thank you and team for helping me during our trip to Napa! I would like to give an extra shout out to Erin for being on top of everything and giving great recommendations after our original plans fell through. And Aaron was awesome. He was a great driver, and everyone on the bus loved his company and professionalism.

I honestly can't tell you how grateful I was that I decided to go with Green Dream Tours. Booking the tour was by far the best money spent on the entire weekend. Not only did it totally take the stress out of the day, but it also added to everything we could have expected.

Thank you SO MUCH for an amazing time. Jeffrey was a fantastic time and we had an absolute blast. We really can't say enough good things. From the amazing wineries to the customer service, we very much enjoyed our time.

The Best Sonoma Wine Tours from San Francisco

Sonoma Valley is a paradise for wine lovers, made even more alluring thanks to its easy access on a day tour from San Francisco.

sonoma valley tours from san francisco

(Photo: Getyourguide.com)

Although the global name recognition of Napa Valley is undoubtedly greater than Sonoma Valley, these two neighboring wine regions in California have long been hard to distinguish when it comes to quality. When asked “which is better, Napa or Sonoma?” many locals struggle to give a definitive answer. Sonoma is generally considered to be the more affordable wine destination of the two, but that could partly be due to its lesser brand recognition. Either way, it’s always best to test it out for yourself by taking one of these fantastic Sonoma wine tours.

Half-Day Wine Country Excursion with Tastings

Enjoy between three and five wine tastings across two separate wineries on this excellent value Sonoma excursion. At each spot you’ll get to take a tour of the estate before sampling signature blends from each. One of the joys of visiting Sonoma Valley, which is to the north of San Francisco, is the journey itself. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge along the way, then watch the vineyard-dominated scenery roll by. Daily departures are available. From $99 per person.

The Sonoma part was the gem of the day, but I expected more from Napa. I don't know if the property of choice was not the best one, but, for me the tour could have ended better, also showing us more of Napa valley as a whole 8 Ciro Oliveira

Here are 5 fun stops between Sacramento and San Francisco to hit on your next road trip

I f you have some time to spare on your drive from Sacramento to San Francisco, consider taking a stop and exploring more of Northern California.

Cities around the region have their own culture, history, food and fun. Here are several detours you can take, depending on your route:

Downtown Napa

If you’re taking Interstate 80 West, you’ll hit the Napa area, known for its wineries, hilltop views and restaurants.

There’s a downtown area, where you can find everything from quick bites to international cuisines and dishes prepared by Michelin-starred chefs. Dining options include fusion Japanese food at Hal Yamashita, a bistro at Grace’s Table — which has a Michelin Bib Gourmand — or Italian at Pasta Prego.

You can also shop at local stores offering jewelry, clothes and other knick-knacks. If you need to unwind after your long drive, there are fine art galleries, spas and salons, too.

And for those not in the driver’s seat, you can enjoy Napa’s pride and joy — wine. There’s wine tasting rooms in downtown, as well as breweries and bars.

Total travel time: According to Google Maps, adding a stop at downtown Napa from downtown Sacramento to San Francisco will result in a total travel time of about 2 hours and 8 minutes. The route is 111 miles. Please note that travel times may change due to traffic and road delays.

Sonoma, about 67 miles on Interstate 80 from Sacramento, is also known for its wine — locals will tell you it’s more relaxed and less touristy than its neighboring Napa Valley.

Depending on how far into Sonoma County you’re willing to go, you can choose from a handful activities , including vineyard walking tours, garden tours, hot air balloons and biking.

Sonoma has a rich history which is commemorated by landmarks throughout the Sonoma Plaza . There, you can see Mission San Francisco Solano, Sonoma Barracks which was formerly a military post for U.S. soldiers and The Blue Wing Inn.

If you’re looking for a snack for your road trip, Sonoma offers picturesque dining, farm-to-table options and experiences, such as food tours.

Total travel time: Adding a stop at Sonoma Plaza from downtown Sacramento to San Francisco will make the entire trip about 2 hours and 19 minutes, and 112 miles.

If you’re taking Interstate 5 South, then you can make a stop at Lodi, the Central Valley’s wine country.

You can explore its handful of wineries , or take in the fresh air at one of Lodi’s parks and nature preserves , such as the Cosumnes River Preserve, Woodbridge Ecological Reserve or Grizzly Island Wildlife Area.

There are also museums, shops and full-service spas.

Total travel time: Adding a stop in Lodi from downtown Sacramento to San Francisco results in a drive about 2 hours and 16 minutes and a total of 120 miles.

If you’re hankering to learn some history, you can make a stop in the small town of Locke from Interstate 5, almost 30 miles from Sacramento.

The Locke Historic District is a National Historic Landmark, housing the largest remaining rural Chinatown in America. Built in 1915 by Chinese immigrants, Locke was home to 600 people . It had four restaurants, stores, a post office and two slaughterhouses, according to the Locke Foundation, among other buildings.

If you visit today , you can see some of the buildings as they were years ago. You can check out the town’s Chinese school and the Dai Loy Museum, or grab drinks at Al the Wop’s Saloon and at the Chinese Cultural Shop.

Total travel time: Adding a stop at Locke from downtown Sacramento to San Francisco results in a drive of about 1 hour and 56 minutes, and 104 miles.

Downtown Martinez

Located by the Delta and the southern shore of the Carquinez Strait is Martinez, one of the oldest towns in California. About 63 miles from Sacramento and 35 miles from San Francisco, you can take this detour off Interstate 80.

You can explore its charm and growth as a city in its downtown. In the area, you’ll find restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, shops and museums, including the The Cobra Experience, which houses classic cars.

Total travel time: Adding a stop at downtown Martinez from downtown Sacramento to San Francisco results in a 1 hour and 47 minute drive. It’s about 97 miles.
