Swiss National Museum
There is a reason this is Switzerland's most frequently visited museum of cultural history. Inside, you will immerse in the past and present through some 840,000 objects. From bronze Age bowls to silver knight’s armor, nowhere else will deliver such a rich and comprehensive insight into the Swiss.

The property where Charlie Chaplin spent his last years provides an intimate glimpse into the iconic entertainer's life and work. Be moved by a walk through the vast estate, where you will marvel at his original bowler hat and boots, hear tales from friends and touch painstakingly replicated movie sets.
Zentrum Paul Klee
The namesake of this museum is one of the 20th century's most important artists. Step into the space to quietly take in his artworks, you might find yourself lost in the famous cubism inspired 'Insula dulcamara' or colorful jigsaw that the German-Swiss genius was most famous for.
Best museums in Switzerland

There is more to this classic fare than dipping bread into a pot of melted cheese. It’s a sacred pastime. To the Swiss, fresh bread and bubbling creamy Gruyere is incomplete without one vital ingredient: good company. Indulge in authentic fondue in Switzerland in the company of new friends.

What to pack for Switzerland
Even in summer, layers are vital in Switzerland. Temperatures differ throughout through the country and can get particularly crisp in the higher mountains.
A good quality camera
In a place known for pinch me moments, it would be remiss to forget something more than just a smartphone to capture them all.
Swiss Francs
Switzerland may be at the core of Europe, but this country abandoned the Euro many years ago. Though you can still use them in some larger establishments, but it's better to arm yourself with plenty of Francs so you're never caught short.
A phrasebook
A phrasebook with the national languages of German, French and Italian is essential on a tour of Switzerland. If you really can’t spare the space, download them to your Google Translate app offline.
Walking shoes
If your trip is likely to see you traversing the dynamic landscapes of Switzerland, a pair of sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots should be on the packing list.

Customizable Itinerary
Lucerne – romantic lakeside stroll.
The Swiss city of Lucerne has a charming allure that overlooks the quiet shores of Lake Lucerne at the mouth of the Reuss River Reuss. Your flight will land at Zurich Airport, where your private transfer will greet you upon arrival and escort you through the gorgeous landscapes to the heart of Lucerne. The remaining day will be yours to enjoy the beauty of the city. The medieval walls that were constructed between the 14th and 15th centuries continue to line the northern edge of the city. The four towers provide fantastic views of the city and across the lake.
What's Included:
Lucerne – Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus
In the morning, your guide will introduce you to the stunning history of Lucerne, beginning with the streets of Old Town. The preserved neighborhoods have colorful facades that resemble familiar images from a storybook. You will continue to the symbol of Lucerne: the Chapel Bridge. Once on the bridge, you can look to the rafters to find more 17th-century paintings that depict more than 100 scenes of Lucerne’s history. In the afternoon, you will board a gondola at Fräkmüntegg terminus to reach the summit of Mt. Pilatus at nearly 7,000 feet above sea level.
Zermatt – Views of the Mountain Panorama
At breakfast, your private transfer will escort you to the charming town of Zermatt. Before reaching the village that is celebrated for its car-less streets and access to the Matterhorn, you will stop in the serene city of Interlaken. Granite walls shape the valley and lead to splendid mountain vistas. A comfortable funicular ride will lead you to Harder Kulm. Here, hiking paths wind around the rugged alpine scenery, and the mountain panorama sweeps over the giant summits. The town of Zermatt sits at the base of the highest mountains in the Swiss Alps, and the Matterhorn rises above Zermatt with a hypnotic pull that pierces the sky.
Zermatt – Day at Your Leisure
A soothing hot chocolate will be a fantastic start to your charming morning in Zermatt. The day will be yours to enjoy the natural splendor of the surrounding scenery at your leisure. You can take the Gornergrat Railway for impressive views of the Matterhorn or traverse the narrow lanes wooden chalets of the village of Hinterdorf. For an exceptional view of the Matterhorn, you can take the cog railway to the top of Gornergrat at 10,135 feet above sea level. From the viewing platform, you have an unparalleled line of sight to the Matterhorn.
Como – Romantic Lakeside Ambiance
Como has become an icon of sophistication and luxury within the gorgeous alpine landscape of northern Italy. Como retains a sense of history in the remains of Roman ruins and medieval churches. The town is also home to a welcoming atmosphere that is accentuated by waterfront restaurants, alpine vistas, and the enchanting greenery of wisteria. You can embrace the allure of Como at your preferred pace by strolling along the winding lanes and shimmering water. The cathedral was constructed in the 14th century.
Como – The Villages, Villas, and Gardens of Lake Como
The morning light will wash over the serene water of Lake Como. After breakfast, you will set out early on a ferry to reach Bellagio. The town remains one of the prettiest settlements along the edges of the lake and is celebrated as much for its panoramic views of the water as it is for its carefully maintained monuments. Boutique shops and quiet cafes line the streets that lead to the upper and lower sections of town. The garden glows with a radiant color that stems from the blossoming azaleas and rhododendrons.
Verona – Verona’s History and Heritage of Lovers
The scenic train takes you through the mountain passes down to Milan and onward to the enchanting city of Verona. The majestic ambiance of the cobbled lanes and medieval architecture accentuates the charm that stems from ancient Roman ruins and the tale of star-crossed lovers expressed in Shakespeare’s epic romance of Romeo and Juliet . Your first impression of Verona’s captivating culture will begin at Piazza Brà, where the stunning Roman amphitheater stands. Shops, restaurants, and cafes line the main avenue that leads to Piazza Erba, which neighbors the popular villa home to the family thought to have inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet .
Venice – Scenic Cruise on the Brenta Canal
You will travel to Padua in the morning, which is a city that is often overlooked by visitors but possesses enchanting medieval marketplaces and Italy’s second-oldest university. Before boarding a boat to cruise the Brenta Canal, you will visit the preserved architecture of the Cappella degli Scrovegni. You will then glide along the canal. The original passageway connects the aristocratic retreats of affluent Venetians to the heart of the Republic and the Grand Canal. Villa Pisani is often referred to as the Queen of the famous Venetian villas due to its 144 rooms. The grounds also possess huge gardens, labyrinthine hedges, and shimmering pools.
Venice – The Famous Canals of Venice
Venice is affectionately known in Italian as La Serenissima , which translates to the Siren. The city has been a fabled destination for travelers and lovers for centuries who were eager to follow the trail of luxurious masquerades, discover the home of fabled Casanova, and witness the opulence of the infamous Doges. Gondolas wind through the narrow canals and fit snugly beneath the more-than-400 bridges that connect Venice’s 118 separate islands. What are the best historical tours to Switzerland?
Swiss delight (9 days), best of switzerland.
Choosing to book a tour in Switzerland isn't a must, yet it brings forth numerous advantages. With all-inclusive tour packages, your lodging, transport, itineraries, and activities are curated by expert trip planners with years of experience. This means you can forgo the hassle of meticulous planning and focus solely on relishing the experiences of the trip. Additionally, these tours frequently serve as a wonderful platform to forge connections and build lasting friendships with fellow adventurers.
Tours are sometimes cheaper than traveling independently in Switzerland depending on the tour's destinations, level of luxury, and length. Of course, every tour is different, and every independent trip is different, too. Tour providers will usually package everything together at a competitive price which is often comparable to an independent trip of the same level of luxury. The average cost of a tour in Switzerland is $413 per day, and many tours are actually well below this average. Tours in Switzerland range in price from $1,209 to $7,732. When comparing the costs to independent travel in Switzerland, keep in mind that most guided organized tour packages will include accommodations, transportation, knowledgeable guides, food, entrance tickets, and more. So, while it's hard to compare the differences between tours and independent travel for every single person, make sure you know what's included in a tour package before comparing the price to an independently planned trip, and also make sure that you've thoroughly researched the costs of independent travel in Switzerland as well.
Group Tours vs. Independent Travel in Switzerland
The choice between an organized tour package and independent travel can pose a dilemma for many travelers. However, in Switzerland during 2024 or 2025, the availability of attractive deals and sales makes organized tour packages an appealing option. These packages offer all-inclusive features, such as accommodations, transportation, entry tickets, meals, and other essential travel requirements, ensuring exceptional value. Furthermore, the presence of knowledgeable guides adds depth to the travel experience, coupled with the convenience of a pre-arranged itinerary. Conversely, independent travel provides the freedom to have more control and flexibility over one's travel plans, allowing for adjustments to schedules and budgets. It also opens doors to immersing oneself in local cultures and exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations that may not be part of organized tours.
What are the benefits of a package tour to Switzerland?
There are countless benefits to traveling with a tour. One of the greatest advantages is the convenience of having every detail taken care of for you. From transportation to accommodations and activities, everything is meticulously arranged, allowing you to relax and fully immerse yourself in the destination. This means you won't have to worry about finding suitable accommodations, planning your route, or potentially missing out on any must-see sights. Moreover, most tour prices are all-inclusive, providing transparency and ensuring you know the total cost of your trip in advance. Tour benefits include
- comfortable amenities
- meeting other like-minded travelers
- not having to plan
- reliable service and schedule
- fixed budget
- knowledgeable guides
- eliminating risks
What are the benefits of independent travel in Switzerland?
Independent travel offers a range of advantages, including freedom, control, and flexibility. By embarking on your own journey, you have the ability to choose your accommodations, explore the sights that interest you, dine at your preferred times, and navigate the destination in your preferred manner. Taking charge of these decisions also grants you greater control over your expenses, schedule, planned activities, and desired level of comfort during your travels. Other benefits include:
- flexible schedules
- flexible budget
- in-depth cultural opportunities
- off-the-beaten-path destinations
You should plan to book your tour to Switzerland at least a few months in advance, if not more. Many people book their tours up to a year in advance, but in our experience, around 6 to 9 months ahead of the departure date is usually sufficient. Many tours fill up well in advance, so booking early ensures that you have a place on the trip. Also, the price of some tours can be significantly cheaper if you book early, as tour companies often provide early booking sales and discounted prices. On the other hand, sometimes tour companies offer last-minute discounts for tours that are not full, but waiting for a last-minute discount runs the risk of not having a spot on a fully booked tour.
In Switzerland, tours can have a range of group sizes, catering to anywhere from 2 to 50 individuals. On average, a tour comprises 18 participants. It is worth mentioning that the size of the tour does not necessarily dictate its quality or cost.
The average length of organized tour packages to Switzerland is about 7 days, which is a suitable timeframe for most visitors. Tours in Switzerland can span from 4 to 15 days, or sometimes longer. While longer tours may come with a higher price, the cost per day tends to decrease. Furthermore, longer tours allow for a more comprehensive exploration of various destinations, offering better value for money.
Where do group tours go in Switzerland?
Although Switzerland is large with many different places to visit, tours often go to Lucerne, Zurich, Interlaken, Geneva, Zermatt, Montreux, Bern, and Gruyeres.
What tour and travel companies offer packages to Switzerland?
The most popular tour companies offering trips in Switzerland are WiseYatra , Exodus Travels , UTracks , Agate Travel , and Omega Tours . While some are large international operators, others are smaller and only operate in the country or in local areas. Larger companies often have solid reputations, provide consistent service, and rarely cancel trips. Smaller companies can also provide excellent service while also giving you a local perspective and in-depth knowledge of the destinations. All of these companies have positive reviews from previous guests, too.
What is the best tour company offering trips to Switzerland?
Switzerland's top-rated tour provider is WiseYatra . Their exceptional service and popular itineraries have garnered a multitude of glowing reviews from delighted past participants.

Overall is good. The tour guide shd have more knowledge. The bus shd be better and wifi available during long voyages. Time given for us to shop is limited.
Scenic Switzerland by Train
I loved this tour! It's not rushed. You get time to explore on your own. The excursions are optional, though on the tour I went on everyone else did all the excursions and there wasn't always a lot to do if you didn't go on the excursion. But it was a great tour. A great way to get to see most of Switzerland. I staid for a few days after and went to Grindelwald, which was absolutely worth it. Marco was our tour guide and he was great. I definitely suggest this tour if you're looking for something guided but not rushed.

What people love about Fully Guided Tours in Switzerland
Had an amazing time in Switzerland and met new wonderful friends. Trafalgar did a great job. Everything was organized and safety was top priority. Will travel with Trafalgar again.
Vitalli was a wonderful tour guide and a pleasure to work with.
Good, but there was definitely a lack of information given to folk on the tour. As in what to wear, how strenuous it's going to be ... etc.

Fred Couples Again Sounds Off on LIV Golf: 'I Don't Think I'll Ever Understand It'
The 1992 Masters champion wasn't a fan of the PGA Tour being disparaged but acknowledges the Saudi-backed league's stable of talented players.
- Author: Bob Harig
AUGUSTA, Ga. — Fred Couples has made it clear previously that he’s no fan of the LIV Golf League . He’s taken some shots at the format and been critical of some of the players but mostly takes issue with any disparaging of the PGA Tour.
Couples acknowledges the strong play of several LIV Golf players and was asked again Tuesday about his feelings toward the league.
“I don’t think I'll ever understand it,’’ he said. “Maybe I'll go to one and see what it's really, really like. I know how great they are as players. I get it all, and I get the 54 holes and you drive a cart to your tee and shotgun. That's easy to pick on.
“Sometimes I've picked on comments that people have made, and I've picked on comments that they talk about the Tour, which I've said I have now 44 years invested in, and I don't want anyone picking on a tour that I think is very good.
“Now, everything can get better, but let me tell you, if the LIV Tour is better for golf, I'm missing something there. But again, I'm not here to bash them anymore. I'm going to see them all tonight (the seven Masters champions who play for LIV Golf who were to attend the annual Champions Dinner).
“Do I like coming to this tournament? I love it. Do I like five days before it seeing the people standing there saying we're coming after the green jacket? I mean, when I was 35 I was coming off the green jacket, too.”
Couples took issue with a LIV Golf promo last week in Miami where the 13 Masters participants said they were coming after the green jacket. “I mean, everyone at this tournament—you don’t think Ludvig Aberg wants to win the green jacket? Or (Tyrrell) Hatton?
“But I find it funny, and I find their golf very, very good. I love DJ (Dustin Johnson). I love Brooks (Koepka). I don't know if they even comment on the LIV Tour. They just play golf. So please don't tell me the LIV Tour is as good as the PGA Tour. I don't want to hear it.”
Sergio Garcia believes it’s all a media creation. The 2017 champion said as much when asked Tuesday—even though he’s had his own issues, including a spat with Rory McIlroy that was later resolved.
“I mean, you guys love these things,” Garcia said. “You keep building up these things, and there's nothing. There's nothing.
“You guys love to kind of dig and just kind of try to make it sound like we get in the locker room and we're fighting each other and stuff like that. It's not like that. At the end of the day, it's golf. We're all trying to play the best way we can, and that's it.”

Masters 2024: You won't believe what Fred Couples has been doing to make sure he's healthy enough to play at Augusta
A UGUSTA, Ga. — Fred Couples refuses to go away. The Masters just means too much to him. And the lengths the 1992 champion will go to for another few tours of Augusta National Golf Club, the outright stubbornness, deserves respect.
One of the most popular players in the annals of the Masters, Couples is preparing to make his 39th start, though “preparing” is a term loosely applied to the 64-year-old Hall of Famer. When he played 18 holes on Sunday with two-time champion Jose Maria Olazabal and two friends, it marked the first time he had touched a club since March 21 when he withdrew after the pro-am at the Galleri Classic in Rancho Mirage, Calif. On Tuesday, he played the front nine with Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas in what has become a traditional outing for the trio.
On Wednesday, he might play in the Par-3 Contest. Or he might not. He might hit balls. Or not. He won’t jeopardize his ability to step on the first tee at 11:54 a.m. Thursday, going so far as to eschew hitting anything more than the four woods he now carries in his bag. No sense bending over, even a little, until he absolutely must.
The most important shots he’s taken the last month were “several” cortisone shots in his back, an attempt to ameliorate a new injury in a decades-long battle with back problems. He brought along Dr. Chad Beauchamp, a noted physical therapist from California, to provide extra assistance to keep loose a portion of his right back that has been nagging him for more than three years.
His lower back, which first blew up in 1994 in Miami, is relatively fine. This new injury is more perplexing, the result of a mishap in the final round of the 2020 Sanford International in Sioux Falls, S.D., that was equally injurious to his pride.
“The first hole is a 4-iron off the tee, and I turned to shake hands with [fellow competitor] Willie Wood because I haven't played with him since college, and I turned and kind of got a little further [leaning forward], and [the tee] built like that [steep on the sides], and I just slipped and went right down and bounced right back up,” Couples said, chuckling slightly at the memory of the ignominious mishap. “Seventy-six shots later, on a course that everyone shoots 67 on, I was done.
“It's just been there forever,” he added. “I don't really understand it. I'm going to get an MRI when I get home next week. I don't like doing those things, but just so they can see if it's a new spot because certainly my [lower] back feels really, really good.”

There have been plenty of older Masters champions who have perhaps hung around too long in terms of taking advantage of a lifetime exemption into the event. Couples, even at less than full strength, has been able to handle the continually lengthened Augusta National exam. He has made 31 cuts, second all-time behind Jack Nicklaus’ 37, breaking a tie with Gary Player after completing 72 holes last year. Last year, Couples struggled to a pair of closing 76s that left him T-50, but he still became the oldest player in tournament history to advance to the weekend.
He and Player also own a share of the record, at least for a few more days, for most consecutive cuts made at 23. They are tied with Woods, who has a chance to break the mark this week.
Couples competed three times on the senior tour early in the season, but then shut it down completely to ensure he could give it a go this week in the 88th Masters. His reasoning was simple and direct. “Because I wanted to play,” he said.
Fred Couples is trying to make his 39th Masters start, having made the cut in 31 previous appearance. (Ben Walton/Golf Digest)
He fully accepts the physical limitations ahead of him. He has to play around the injury and hope he doesn’t aggravate it. And to make another cut, he has to putt well. “I better putt well,” he said.
“You know what, if I drive it somewhere and I've got downhill lies … the hardest shots I have are like with wedges and sand wedges, so I open way up and I hit a wedge 90 yards now. So the [pain] threshold is when it pops,” Couples said. “Then I don't know what's going to happen. But if I can play around it and get it around, I'll be fine. I could go to the range now and look pretty good hitting drivers and 3-woods because I'm so far away, and I won't even warm up with an iron. It's really not painful until I make a bad swing, and then it's toast.
“The last thing I want to do is come out and embarrass myself by a bad score,” he added. “I know I can hit the ball. What is that? I don't know if that's a 73 or a 75, but I'm not shooting 80. There's no way. I'm just not that kind of person. I wouldn't do that. Can I shoot 80? Of course I can. But I'm not planning on it.”

Rickie Fowler wins Masters Par 3 Contest, five players make ace

Before the Masters starts Thursday, there was one more tradition unlike any other to enjoy: Wednesday's Par 3 Contest.
Rickie Fowler carded 5-under 22 to win the Par 3 Contest. Fowler finished two strokes clear of Sepp Straka, J.T. Poston and amateur Santiago de la Fuente.
The Par 3 Contest was contested Wednesday, as per tradition, at Augusta National's nine-hole par-3 layout just a stone's throw from the tournament course. Players signed up to compete in groupings of up to three players, with several spouses and children also enjoying the action inside the ropes – caddying and sometimes even hitting a few shots.
In addition to Fowler's glittering crystal bowl for winning the Par 3 Contest, five players also earned hardware for recording holes-in-one Wednesday. Luke List recorded the day's first ace, followed by Gary Woodland, Sepp Straka, Lucas Glover and Viktor Hovland.
No player has won the Par 3 Contest and the green jacket in the same year, but who's to say this year can't be the first? Fowler will strive to break that streak amidst the loblolly pines.
Read below for a capsule look of Wednesday's aces and memorable moments at the Masters Par 3 Contest, a tradition unlike any other that precedes a tradition unlike any other.

4:19 p.m.: The cup is filling up at the 141-yard sixth, the latest magic trick coming at the hands of Viktor Hovland.
The Norwegian cards Wednesday's third ace at No. 6, the day's fifth hole-in-one overall. Hovland's ball lands on the front of the green and takes a couple hops before grabbing and spinning back toward the hole; it trickles in with sublime pace. Hovland raises his hands with a mischevious smile as the patrons roar in appreciation. Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is on the scene, clapping in appreciation as well.
Hovland isn't keeping an official score, but the moment will remain etched in time nonetheless. Rickie Fowler (5 under) maintains the clubhouse lead that he has held for some three hours.
3:27 p.m.: Lucas Glover makes Wednesday's first ace at No. 7, the day's fourth hole-in-one overall. Glover's tee shot lands on the green's back-right portion, some 50 feet from the hole, but it carries plenty of zip and releases all the way back into the hole. The Clemson alum throws his hands in the air and high-fives his playing partners Brian Harman and Harris English, along with family on the scene.
3:20 p.m.: Nearly two hours after posting 5-under 22, Rickie Fowler maintains the clubhouse lead at the Par 3 Contest. Sepp Straka and J.T. Poston share second place in the clubhouse at 3 under, with Matt Fitzpatrick (through 7) and Sungjae Im (through 6) still on the course at 3 under.
2:27 p.m.: Austria's Sepp Straka makes an ace at the 142-yard fifth, the day's third hole-in-one overall (the first two coming at No. 6). The ball lands just a few feet past the hole and spins in; Straka leaps into the air as the ball drops into the cup.
2:20 p.m.: After Gary Woodland finds the water on the eighth hole, leading to a triple bogey, Rickie Fowler (5 under) has assumed a three-stroke lead over Woodland and Austin Eckroat.
Woodland's son Jaxson drains a 12-foot birdie from just off the green's front edge at No. 9, followed by a raucous family celebration. It means Woodland's score won't be official, but hearts are warm across the board.
1:40 p.m.: Gary Woodland records the day's second ace (both on the 140-yard, par-3 sixth hole); his tee shot lands roughly 30 feet long-right of the flag and spins back softly, dripping in the hole with perfect pace. It marks Woodland's first ace at the Par 3 Contest. He's now 5 under through six holes, co-leader with Rickie Fowler (in the clubhouse).
1:30 p.m.: Rickie Fowler makes an 8-foot birdie at the ninth to post 5-under 22. He's the leader in the clubhouse thus far.
1:15 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler is underway at the Par 3 Contest, with his sister Sara on the bag, dialing in yardages amidst back-and-forth with the broadcast crew.
Scheffler's wife Meredith is not on-site this week, as she is "a few weeks" from the due date for their first child. "Meredith's resting up," Scheffler said. "We're a few weeks away, so we could not get the OK from the doctors."
Were Meredith to enter labor during the Masters, Scheffler would leave immediately, he said Wednesday, regardless of his leaderboard position. "That is extremely factual; I will be out of here," he said. "I think first child wins, over many things in my life."
1:05 p.m.: Local hero Luke List makes the first ace of the Par 3 Contest. The Augusta resident spins it back and in at the 140-yard sixth hole.
12:50 p.m.: Gary Woodland is joined at the Par 3 Contest by his three kids, Jaxson, Maddox and Lennox. It's an emotional scene for Woodland, who underwent brain surgery last September to remove a lesion, which was situated on a tract that caused fear. "I was very fear-driven every day, mostly around death," he said in January.
Now he's playing the Masters, and the journey isn't lost on him. Far from it. "This is what it's all about," Woodland said on the first tee at the Par 3 Contest. "This is what the fight was for."
