Rajaji National Park : It is gifted with immaculate beauteousness covering an area of 820sqkms on the edge of the Doon Valley . It is situated around 10kms from Haridwar . Rajaji National Park was established in 1996 and has over 23 species of mammals and 315 avifauna species. It is a safe haven for panther, bear, chital, elephant, tiger, sambar, wild boar, barking deer, python, monitor lizard, etc. Elephant Safari is also available at Chilla and Dholkand.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple : Thousands of devotees visit Neelkanth Mahadev every month throughout the year. It is situated on the summit of the mountain across the sacred Ganga River. According to mythology, this is the place where Lord Shiva drank the venom produced during 'Sagar Manthan' which turned his throat blue and was thus the place was named as Neelkanth. Neelkanth and Mahadev are names of Lord Shiva. It is situated 66kms from Dehradun city.

It is believed that Vikramaditya ordered for this ghat to be constructed in the memory of his brother Bharthari. However, Sati was determined to attend the event. On seeing her arrive at the yagna, her father, Daksha became furious and started to hurl insults at her and Lord Shiva. Sati tried to placate her father, but failed.

Finally, when she could take it no more, she flew into a rage and took the form of Goddess Adi Parashakti and introduced herself to Daksha as the Eternal Power. She declared that she would give up her mortal life by jumping into the sacrificial fire.

Learning about the incident, Lord Shiva became enraged and decapitated Daksha in his Virbhadra avatar, the destructive incarnation. However, later Lord Shiva relented and restored all that was destroyed and brought back to life all those he had slain including King Daksha whose head he substituted with that of a goat. Daksha was humbled by both Shiva’s show of strength as well as his grace. He completely changed and became an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva.

Mansa Devi Temple

Mansa Devi Temple, also known as Bilwa Tirth is one of the Panch Tirth (Five Pilgrimages) is within Haridwar. It is a Tourist attraction in Haridwar which is a Hindu temple dedicated to Mansa Devi, goddess of Snake. The temple is located at the top of Biswas Parvat on the Shivalik Hills which is a part of the southernmost range of Himalaya. One of the shaktipeeth at the top of Neel Parvat is Chandi Devi Temple, dedicated to Chandika Devi, who was born out of the energy of Devi Durga to kill the demon king's Shumbha-Nishumbha.   Worshippers visiting this place can opt for a 3km adventurous trek to the hilltop while experiencing beautiful sights punctuated by monkeys around the place. The other, more comfortable, way of traveling is by the Udankhatola, the ropeway service. Few worshippers can also take trolley service which plies along the way.  There is a pond beside the temple which has medicinal values for which it attracts the visitors who take a dip. There are several vendors around the temple selling Prasad, Diya, agarbatti, etc for those who want to offer puja. Bharat Mata Mandir

Among all the famous shrines and temples that make Haridwar a hub for those seeking God, Bharat Mata Mandir is the most unique one. What makes this temple so special is that the country, India, is worshipped here as a goddess. The temple complex is eight-storeyed and is located near the river Ganges. 

The architecture of the temple is quite different from any other temple you will see in Haridwar. The temple was inaugurated in 1983 by Late Mrs Indira Gandhi. Apart from being a place of worship, the complex also houses an allopathic dispensary, diagnostic camps, cow shelter, an old age home, and a ved shala.

Pawan Dham, an ancient temple and a social non-profit organization, is managed by the Geeta Bhawan Trust Society of Moga. Along with the elaborate architecture, stunning interiors and exquisite glasswork, the beautiful idols adorned with precious jewels and stones are the highlights of this revered site. The main attraction is the beautiful Lord Krishna idol that is seen preaching his disciple Arjun. Owing to the intricate mirror and glasswork, the temple is often referred to as the Glass Temple that enjoys great fame not only among Hindu devotees, but also among local and foreign tourists.

10. Bara Bazar, Haridwar

Although Haridwar does not boast of high-end malls, you can still get everything that is needed at the bustling Bara Bazar. The innumerable shops at this lively market sell religious paraphernalia, Ayurvedic medicines, wooden items, handicrafts, ornaments, etc. Rudraksha and peda (sweet) are two of the most popular things bought by visitors, including foreign travellers.

Apart from shops, you will also find a number of restaurants where you can relish hot samosa , kachori-sabji , choley-bhature , etc. Besides Bara Bazar, there are various other local markets, such as Moti Bazar, Kankhal Bazar and Jwalapur Bazar that you can visit to experience the old-world charm of Haridwar.
