X never gets old. Even though soon the audience will all be in wheelchairs. John Doe and DJ Bonebreak simply do not tire. Exene hasn't been at full steam for years, but she manages to pull it off anyhow with swagger. Heart goes out to Billy Zoon, who is recovering — we all hope — from cancer treatment. Exene wore a "support Billy Zoom" t-shirt, which they were also selling. I hope they're raising enough. Several years ago when X last performed in Detroit, Exene was already raising the issue of under insured musicians, and she and the band have long supported Sweet Relief, an organization founded 20+ yrs ago to address the issue. (She herself had been diagnosed with MS.) Would have liked to ask her if the ACA has made a difference.

Jesse Dayton stepped in on lead guitar with aplomb. However, I missed the cheeseball Zoom, who plays so effortlessly that he spends the whole set making eyes at the audience. But because Zoom wasn't there, I paid more attention to DJ Bonebreak (not a stage name!), who really has a similar presence. Doesn't miss a beat with a ton of flair.

I was thrilled that they played Blue Spark by request. AFAIK that song hasn't been in regular rotation for years, so it was great that they could pull it off with Jesse.

Before their set, introduced as the Staple Sisters,

they joined Dead Rock West to perform a song called "this may be the last time." That felt true. But who knows. I've thought that every time I've seen X since they began their perpetual reunion almost 20 years ago.

I survived my childhood and teen years by listening to X, so when I saw that they were playing again, I knew there was no way in hell I was going to miss their show. They played at The Casbah, a small divey bar in San Diego, and they rocked out, cooler than ever. Billy played his sax on a couple of songs and was awesome. They played their older songs, which I was happy about.

There were a few older douche bag white men who attended, who started pushing me around. I guess, they were trying to mosh, but it was lame. Really? How old are we now? Have we not evolved from that? Maybe not. One guy got kicked out for being too aggressive, and at one point John admonished a couple of idiots who were starting to fight saying that it ruined the song for him, "really guys, are you serious?" Luckily, there were enough gentlemen and others who just wanted to enjoy the music so that the show was not ruined.

X is a quintessential Los Angeles punk band who should not be missed. They are energetic and tight and still have their punk rock souls going on.

In a musical climate where it can often feel as if it’s a race to the bottom in terms of who can come up with the silliest band name, it’s refreshing to cast your mind back to a time where the likes of X were happy to go minimalist on that front, and let their music do the talking for them. Forming in 1977 - the same year that punk was born - you can argue that the LA group are among the forefathers of the genre, with their first two albums ranked amongst the greatest 500 ever by Rolling Stone back in 2003. Their heady reputation is down in no small part to their live shows, which continue to this day; there’s little in the way of rock and roll fireworks t the light show or the stage set, but they don’t really need it when they have a stage presence as commanding as that exuded by frontwoman Exene Cervenka. Her health problems in recent years have forced less touring, but both her voice and her sheer aura remain as potent as ever when they do play; this is a band sure to go down as icons of their genre in years to come.

Great show! They covered way more than just the Los Angeles album. They were in fine form and seemed to be really be having fun. Awesome hearing/seeing DJ Bonebreak playing vibes and Billy Zoom on sax Come Back To Me off of Under The Big Black Sun. Overall a badass show, Folk Yuke was a perfect opening band choice. I do miss the old school days when a little extra time and effort hanging after the show would net you a chance to say howdy or get an autograph. Unfortunately that's all been monetized and exclusive to VIP package deal holders. Great for those that can afford it but kindal sucky for real fans. The lat time I saw Excene in San Antonio was a solo show at a shithole club on Avenue E on October 8th, 2011. There were maybe 25-30 people there including staff. Obviously that scene was much less pretentious and she more accessible. In fact she was working her own merch table after the show. X still bring it, if you get a chance catch them on this tour.

Conceptually, playing the classic 4 albums over 2 nights made a lot of sense.

But the sound was dreadful. Having just seen the Decemberists there, the sound can mix well at the Observatory North Park.

John Doe's driving bass line was missing in Hungry Wolf. Although the mix was better the first night (larger crowd), it was a terrible start to their second night. At no point did their sound person ever bring the bass up enough to hear without focus.

The ~40 minute run times of their albums made for two short shows. But on night two, with the sound so dreadful, I wanted to hear the cuts they rarely play and get out.

This probably will be the last time I spend my money on X.

So often, when seeing bands of the X era (or before), you assume that you'll be watching an energy-less show of aging rockers with declining skills & diminished vocals. I am so happy to report that X can still bring it!

Night 3 ("Under the Big Black Sun") of a 4 night run at the Observatory was so incredible that I went back for the final show ("More Fun in the New World"). The band's sound was cohesive and strong, Billy Zoom's mastery of the guitar was really showcased on night 4, Exene's vocals were as beautiful as ever, and kudos to Doe for chastising the guy in the crowd for messing with his smartphone during the set.

Brilliant stuff - thoughts and prayers to Billy on a speedy recovery!

X was phenomenal! They were in rare form at the Casbah. Soundcheck was great although it was a little short. Being able to see them at 100.7 origin show beforehand was great! Small intimate venue with a fear of being in the living room having a conversation with the band. After sound check while waiting for the small wigs to play Xcene and John Doe came out and talk to the crowd hung out signed autographs I was really kind of nice. At the VIP soundcheck everyone got a great bag of swag. It was one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen. Great crowd great warm-up band great performance by X.

40 years of punk rock. Most of their contemporaries are dead or have quit music, but X shows why they are still a viable force. Yeah, they only play old songs because Billy won't play anything he didn't play on originally—but tonight they showed some new arrangements, which I loved. X was always deeper than "loud & fast rules" which is why I think they outlasted the others. The Cat's cradle was packed with oldsters and plenty of younger folks too-- a great sweaty rock show.

geoff-dunkak’s profile image

Was hopefull it would be good show, but these guys are old like me.

It was fantastic. They rocked hard and fast. They played exclusively from their first 4 albums. Those were their best.

But I would have liked to hear some of their older stuff too. They had the time as they didn't even play for 1.5 hours.

But that's not picking.

Venue was great too.

roymcooper’s profile image

Great show and venue. Hard to believe they have been together for so long. Great energy and they appeared to still have a good time performing. Opening act was Jane from GoGo's. Her band was great but cannot remember their name. She sounded great and would also see them again.

Formed in 1977, X quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in the first wave of LA's flourishing punk scene; becoming legendary leaders of a punk generation. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978, followed by seven studio albums released from 1980-1993.

Over the years, the band has released several critically acclaimed albums, topped the musical charts with regularity and performed their iconic hits on top television shows such as Letterman and American Bandstand. X's first two studio albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift are ranked by Rolling Stone among the top 500 greatest albums of all time.

The band continues to tour with the original line-up fully intact. In 2017, the band celebrated their 40th year anniversary in music with a Grammy Museum exhibit opening, a Proclamation from the City of Los Angeles and being honored at a Los Angeles Dodgers game where Exene threw out the first pitch and John Doe sang the National Anthem.

In 2019 X reissued and remastered their first four classic albums via their collaboration with Fat Possum Records. Los Angeles (1980), Wild Gift (1981), Under The Big Black Sun (1982) and More Fun In The New World (1983). In 2020, X celebrated the 40th Anniversary of Los Angeles and celebrated with a surprise release of Alphabetland, their first new studio album, featuring the original line-up, in 35 years.

40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ICONIC LOS ANGELES ALBUM

March 3, 2020

X_729068175360_o.jpg

LA’s favorite punk band will celebrate and commemorate the 40th anniversary of the ground-breaking album, Los Angeles, with a special show at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. The revolutionary Ray Manzarek produced the album, originally released on April 26, 1980, will be performed in its’ entirety during the April 25th show. In 2019 X reissued and remastered their first four classic albums via their collaboration with Fat Possum Records. Los Angeles (1980), Wild Gift (1981), Under The Big Black Sun (1982) and More Fun In The New World (1983). In addition, the band recently re-entered the recording studio for the first time since 1984. A collection of original songs was recorded with producer Rob Schnapf, release plans are pending. X's first two studio albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift are ranked by Rolling Stone among the top 500 greatest albums of all time. Earlier in 2019, the original foursome - Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake went into the studio together to record fresh material for the first time since 1985’s “Ain’t Love Grand." Five songs were recorded over the course of two days with producer Rob Schnapf. The first of these new songs is the recorded version of an older X song, "Delta 88 Nightmare," which previously was only included as a bonus track on the 2001 reissue of "Los Angeles" in demo form - never as a fully recorded and mixed track. The song is available today as a 7" with the flip side being the newly recorded "Cyrano de Berger's Back".

X! Live in Latin America

August 15, 2017

Here's the link to kickstarter  & Here’s the story… In November of 2011, X was fortunate to be touring Latin America as the opening band for Pearl Jam’s South America Tour. What a life-changing and mind-altering experience it was! Our first show was in Sao Paulo, Brazil. We had no idea what the crowds would think of us, and we were really surprised when we started playing that first show. PJ’s devoted fans were so welcoming and enthusiastic! We were playing stadiums, and sometimes it felt like a club. The early punk days in Los Angeles (and really, all the scenes in the U.S.) were about intensity as much as music. No barriers between band and people in the crowd. It was wild!   And on Thanksgiving, in Mexico City, playing and singing Los Angeles, while earthquakes rattled the Foro Sol Stadium stage, it felt that same way. We had that “this is crazy, this is only going to happen once so remember it and enjoy it” feeling. While we toured in South America, Costa Rica, and Mexico, another fortunate thing happened. Pearl Jam’s sound engineer recorded all our shows, and gave us these incredible, professional recordings to use. But we didn’t know what to do with the recordings! We didn’t want to give them to a record label, or license the songs, we didn’t even know if we could. We were apprehensive the songs would just disappear into somebody’s pocket and never be heard from again. (We’ve had a few bad experiences…) One day a friend suggested we release the tracks via Kickstarter . We just needed someone great and amazing to mix the songs….   We asked Rob Schnapf (Beck, Fidlar, Booker T., Elliot Smith) if he would produce, engineer and mix these for us. When he said yes, we decided to give this a go!!  Thank you for staying with us the last 40 years! And thank you for funding our project. If we surpass our goal (which includes mixing & engineering, making & manufacturing rewards, and shipping & handling) we will use the money to keep our 2 vans running and keep ourselves touring. Maybe even get some matching outfits tailor-made…. Gotta come up with something special for the 41st year!!

X: 40 Years of Punk in Los Angeles exhibit at LA LIVE October 13

May 8, 2017

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Los Angeles punk rock band X, the GRAMMY Museum® at L.A. LIVE will open a new exhibit titled X: 40 Years of Punk in Los Angeles on Friday, October 13. On display on the Museum's fourth floor, the exhibit will give visitors a glimpse into how X's four original members – Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake – quickly established the band as one of the best in the first wave of L.A.'s flourishing punk scene.

"An X exhibit in a museum? Unbelievable! We are honored, dumbstruck and so grateful that all four original members are here to celebrate and share our history and 40th anniversary. It’s a very long way from a basement on Hollywood Blvd (The Masque) to the GRAMMY Museum, but we feel that we bring with us all the punks from then and now. We are just the representatives for what has gone before and what is still to come in the City of Angels." — Exene, Billy, DJ, and John.

Items on display will include:

·       Original instruments and gear played by the band

·       Handwritten lyrics and notebooks by Exene Cervenka and John Doe

·       Clothing and other personal items

·       Original concert flyers for L.A. shows

·       Rare photographs and artwork by Exene

·       X: The Unheard Music film, and more!

"We are thrilled to be hosting the official 40th anniversary exhibit for one of Los Angeles' most influential punk rock acts," says GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Scott Goldman. "While most will think of New York when they think of the punk movement, the genre was also developing an impact on the West Coast, of which X played an integral role in developing, and we are so excited to tell that story."

"This exhibit will place a much-deserved spotlight on the history of punk music in Los Angeles and one of the bands who played a vital role on the genre's impact on Southern California," says GRAMMY Museum Curator Nwaka Onwusa. "Visitors will get a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the development of X's career and how, after 40 years, they remain one of the few bands to continue to tour with all four original members."

X: 40 Years of Punk in Los Angeles will be on display through Feb. 25, 2018.

A Grammy nomination for under the big black sun!!!

CINDY WASSERMAN

December 1, 2015

Cindy-Wasserman1

EXENE CERVENKA OF X POSTS LETTER

AT THE SWEET RELIEF MUSICIANS FUND WEBSITE

ABOUT THE CREATION OF THE CINDY WASSERMAN FUND TO HELP WITH CINDY’S MEDICAL EXPENSES

Exene Cervenka of X has posted a letter--at the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund website--about her friend and musical associate Cindy Wasserman of the band Dead Rock West :

"Cindy Wasserman , the singer you have heard on so many other artists’ recordings, needs your help. Recently diagnosed with breast cancer, Cindy still finished her touring obligations (with her singing partner Frank Drennen in Dead Rock West), opening all the shows X played over the summer and fall. Her captivating presence was felt by all who heard her voice; so warm, haunting, and timeless.  Dead Rock West then toured with Phil and Dave Alvin. All the while, Cindy never let on that she was ill. She wanted the audiences and her fellow tour mates to have a great time, a meaningful time, a joyful time.

Cindy Wasserman is that extremely rare combination of talent, grace, beauty and heart.  She works so hard to make you sound good on your recordings, and she sounds so good you wonder why it’s not you singing the harmony parts on her  songs!

All of us in the music community, whether musicians, managers, promoters, singers, songwriters, sound people, everyone, are all grateful to have Cindy in our lives. She is truly loved, not just for her voice, but for the generosity, humor, positivity, and love and caring friendship she gives us. She is a source of a lot of light in this world.  That’s why to know Cindy, is to love Cindy.

Please help Cindy get through a very difficult time by supporting her now."

--Sincerely,

Exene Cervenka

Singer and sweet light of a human being Cindy Wasserman, a contributor to records by Rickie Lee Jones, Marc Olson, John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Grant Lee Phillips, Peter Case and to her own hard working band Dead Rock West, was diagnosed in August 2015 with Breast Cancer. Anyone who knows or has met Cindy at shows or in private over the years will attest that the first thing they all remember (after marveling at that otherworldly voice of hers) is her infectious smile and warm hearted hugs. Never the rock n roll diva, she has spent her life supporting, encouraging and bringing a little light to other people with her music and her hugs. Now she needs our help.

She is in the early stages of treatment for this disease but her health and healing recovery look very very positive. This has understandably been a shock to her and her family but she has continued to tour hard this year. With over 100 dates with Dead Rock West, John Doe, X and Dave and Phil Alvin this year the shows particularly since August have brought her a whole lot of strength and joy that will contribute to her healing. She has meanwhile been carefully educating herself on her treatment options, meeting with professionals during tour breaks and building up her own body’s strength to prepare to enter treatment as soon as she gets home from her final tour date on Nov 21st.

Her expenses, however, are already mounting and her insurance is not covering much of it. We are asking you, her friends, fans and fellow music lovers, to get involved, contribute what you can and pass the word on to friends and family. Please help bring a little light to this sweethearted songbird for all the music and light that she has brought to us all of these years. Anything small or large helps immensely and we as well as her family and friends are hugely grateful for your support. Cindy herself says thank you so much for the outpouring already and that she is fully committed to a complete recovery and to recording the next Dead Rock West record as planned in 2016, with John Doe in the Producer’s chair this time!

About Sweet Relief in general:

Since 1994 Sweet Relief Musicians Fund has provided assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems. Grant recipients include recording artists, club and session musicians, composers & songwriters from across the country. Every musical genre is represented including pop ,  rock ,  jazz ,  classical ,  country ,  blues ,  reggae ,  hip hop  and all styles in between. Sweet Relief has served the music community by helping musicians with medical and living expenses including insurance premiums, prescriptions, medical treatment and operative procedures, housing costs, food costs, utilities and other basic necessities.

About Sweet Relief’s Directed Artist Program:

Over the past several years Sweet Relief has developed a much needed and previously unavailable program to assist a substantially under-served constituency. Some artists face such overwhelming financial and personal distress when major illness or injury is coupled with a complete lack of, or grossly under-insured, health plan . In many of these cases, treatment for cancer, brain injury, stroke and MS can accrue expenses reaching several hundred thousands of dollars or more. Our organization takes on the role of organizer, administrator, advocate, event planner, and media partner to bring together family, friends, industry partners and fans when an overwhelming financial obstacle is encountered by the most unfortunate artist. We call this our Directed Artist Program.

Our Very Own XMas Miracle! Billy Zoom to Play XMas Shows!

November 4, 2015

Tour Will See the Return of BILLY ZOOM to the Stage Following Cancer Treatment – Our Own “Xmas Miracle”

(Los Angeles – October 2015) X - THE Los Angeles Punk Leaders have announced their annual Holiday “X-Mas” Shows! Beginning with two shows in San Diego the day after Thanksgiving. The band will follow up with four nights at The Roxy in Los Angeles and one more in OC before heading north. Shows are scheduled for San Francisco, Seattle and Portland, ending their holiday tour with a special New Year’s Eve show at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills. Opening on all dates, except for New Years Eve, will be Mike Watt and the Secondmen.

The BEST news on this year’s annual holiday tour?? Billy Zoom - the legendary guitarist for the seminal punk band, is planning to rejoin his longtime bandmates on stage, following his medical treatment for bladder cancer this past summer. When it was announced that Zoom would be sidelined his summer in order to undergo urgent treatment, his bandmates and X fans rallied around him, raising funds to help support Zoom and his family during the treatment process. Zoom is currently on break from the chemo treatment and ready to bring his infamous Cheshire grin back to stage left, where he belongs!

Formed in 1977, X quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in LA's flourishing first wave punk scene. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978. While these songs were later re-recorded for their second album, the versions on Adult Books / We're Desperate reveal X's raw talent for totally sincere songwriting and stripped-down rock n' roll. This past April, the band re-issued that first single, in its original 7-inch format, as limited edition colored vinyl.

The original line-up of X remains John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom, and D.J. Bonebrake.

IMMEDIATE TREATMENT TO CONTINUE – ZOOM WILL STILL PERFORM AT ORANGE COUNTY ALBUM PLAY SHOWS THIS WEEKEND

REPLACEMENT TO BE NAMED FOR JULY-AUGUST DATES SO X CAN CONTINUE WITH THE TOUR IN SUPPORT OF ZOOM

(Los Angeles, CA – July 9, 2015)  Legendary guitarist, punk legend, and all-around nice guy, Billy Zoom, has been diagnosed with cancer.   Yesterday,  Zoom was given the news that he has an aggressive form of bladder cancer and immediate treatment is necessary to fight the disease.  The 67-year-old musician/producer/electronics wiz will begin chemo treatment next week.

In early 2010, Zoom revealed that he had been successfully treated for prostate cancer.

X and Zoom are committed to this weekend’s 4-album play shows at Orange County’s The Observatory.  Joining X for these shows will be The Blasters and Mike Watt.

X will continue with their previously announced July and August mid-west and east coast tour dates as planned in support of Billy and his family.  A replacement for Zoom will be announced shortly.

X and manager, Mike Rouse, have begun a fund to help Zoom with his upcoming medical costs.

Statement from X:

In the music community, we all take turns helping each other & have since the beginning. Punk rock and benefits always went hand in hand: you name the cause, and the bands and fans will be there. Now it's our turn to help Billy Zoom, the wittiest, smartest, nicest, best guitar player & friend I know. I would do anything to help him get better, help take care of his family, and lessen his woes. Billy has begun chemo treatment at Cedars Sinai for Bladder cancer. He has a long road ahead of him but we are confident he's beat cancer once and he'll do it again!

Please keep Billy in your prayers and send some positive energy his way! Donating a few bucks will help take away some of his financial stress and worry. It's the punk rock thing to do.

Exene, John, DJ, and Mike

HOMETOWN ENTERTAINMENT: Steep Canyon Rangers to open Lime Kiln Theater’s Summer Concert Series in May

The bluegrass band often plays with legendary comedian/musician steve martin.

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The historic Lime Kiln Theater is a beautiful outdoor venue that’s brought decades of entertainment to Lexington.

Lime Kiln’s Executive Director says it’s the space itself that makes it so special.

“The patrons love to be in a unique space like that to enjoy music. And the artists love to play in a space like that. So, there’s a great energy created between the artists and the fans, both being excited,” says Lime Kiln Theater Executive Director Spencer McElroy.

Bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers are excited to be coming back to the Lime Kiln in May.

“For people who haven’t been there, it’s a magical little music venue. It’s such a beautiful spot,” says Steep Canyon Rangers bass player Barrett Smith.

For over 20 years, the Grammy-winning Steep Canyon Rangers have brought their special mix of bluegrass, country and Americana.

“What you still get from the bluegrass is great harmony singing, great songs,” says Smith.

One frequent famous collaborator is legendary comedian and musician Steve Martin.

“We have a great working and friend relationship with Steve. We travel around with him still. We’re out on tour right now. We’re not out on tour with Steve, but about a fourth of the time, we do a whole Steve Martin-Martin Short comedy show,” he says.

Smith adds, “It’s great working with Steve. He’s a wonderful person, iconic artist,” says Smith.

The Steep Canyon Rangers are also working on new music, and just released an album last year called “Morning Shift.”

As for their live shows, Smith says they always like to keep it fresh and new.

“It’s fun to have a completely different show every night, and even within that show to have unexpected things happen to kind of send us off on a course,” says Smith.

Because of a high demand from fans, the Steep Canyon Rangers will play TWO nights at the Lime Kiln: Friday, May 10th at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, May 11th at 7:30 p.m..

The Friday night show is now sold out, but tickets are still available for Saturday’s show. Click here to purchase tickets.

RBC Heritage: Final round suspended due to darkness, Monday finish underway at Harbour Town

Change Text Size

Updated: Monday, April 22, 8 a.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage resumed at 8 a.m. ET.

Scheffler, chasing his fourth PGA TOUR win in five starts, authored a signature moment in the waning twilight Sunday, recovering from a hooked 4-iron second shot on the par-4 15th with a sorcerous wedge to 11 feet that he converted for an unlikely par to maintain a five-stroke lead over Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, J.T. Poston and Sahith Theegala.

Scheffler, chasing his fourth PGA TOUR win in five starts, stood 20 under for the tournament as the final round was suspended due to darkness at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, with nine players yet to complete the final round on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

This will be the second unscheduled Monday finish on the PGA TOUR this season and first since the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, won by Austin Eckroat. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, won by Wyndham Clark, was shortened to 54 holes after play was unable to be contested on Sunday and Monday.

Sunday’s play at Harbour Town was initially suspended at 4:28 p.m. due to lightning in the area. The final pairing of Scheffler and Sepp Straka had completed 11 holes at the time. Players were removed from the course, with the delay ultimately lasting 2 hours and 32 minutes before play resumed at 7 p.m.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 6:30 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage will resume at 7 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 5:40 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage will not resume at 6 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 5:28 p.m. ET: The final round of the RBC Heritage is scheduled to resume at 6 p.m. ET.

Updated: Sunday, April 21, 4:28 p.m. ET: The RBC Heritage’s final round has been suspended due to lightning in the area, with the final groups playing the back nine Sunday at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Play was suspended at 4:28 p.m. local time, with leader Scottie Scheffler playing the 12th hole. Players were taken off the course at the time of suspension.

Scheffler began the final round at 16 under, one stroke clear of Sepp Straka, and the world No. 1 turned in 3-under 33 with a chip-in eagle at the par-5 second, a two-putt birdie at the par-5 fifth and seven pars. Scheffler stood 19 under, four strokes clear of the field at the time of delay. Seven players stood 15 under.

“We were hoping to play through this; we felt like we had another 25 minutes left of this heavy rain and were then going to get a break on the back end,” said Mark Dusbabek, the PGA TOUR’s senior director lead TV Rules & Video Analyst, on the CBS broadcast. “We had lightning unfortunately pop up 4 miles away; just suddenly caught us in, so we had to stop play for this. We’re going to see how things go here and make a decision.

"The course was not unplayable. It wasn't because of the rain. It was just because the lightning popped up."

The final round of the RBC Heritage is poised to deliver fans a fantastic finish, but that might not come without a little bit of weather late in the day.

After the first three rounds of tournament golf at Harbour Town Golf Links were accompanied by sunshine and temperatures ranging from the upper 70s into the mid-80s, Sunday could bring golfers a different challenge to navigate as the tournament comes to a close.

According to the forecast, a cold front will be slowly moving southward into the Hilton Head Island area on Sunday, increasing the chances for showers and a few thunderstorms as play gets into the early to mid-afternoon hours and continuing into the evening hours. Storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Otherwise, Sunday morning will remain dry with temperatures warming into the mid to upper 70s before falling into the 60s late in the day. Light wind Sunday morning will increase out of the north 10-15 gusting to 20-25 mph late in the day.

The final pairing of the day, Scottie Scheffler and Sepp Straka, are set to tee off at 1:55 p.m. ET. Scheffler holds a one-stroke lead at 16-under.
