  • Can I trade my tickets for a different date/time?
  • No, all tickets are nonrefundable and nonexchangeable.
  • Do you cruise rain or shine?
  • Yes, we cruise rain or shine. All the boats have two levels – the top deck is open-air, and the lower deck is an enclosed, climate-controlled salon. Frequently Asked Questions

Our dock is located at the River City Marina at 900 S Wells St, Chicago, IL 60607 . To get here, guests need to head south on Wells Street and enter through the parking lot behind the River City condominium building. The parking lot is located across from the soccer field on 9th Street and Wells. Please note that you do NOT need to go into the building to find us. Once you arrive, we will complete your registration in the parking lot before embarking. Please note that the cruise starts and finishes at this location.

One of the perks of booking an architecture boat cruise with Tours & Boats is that parking is relatively easy to find! There is a parking lot located at the marina , and it costs around $10 . For more information, please see our detailed guide here . However, please note that it is possible for the parking lot to fill up early, and we are not responsible in the event that you are unable to find a spot . For this reason, we recommend arriving early so that you can find alternate parking, should the need arise.

If the date you want is not listed on the calendar, this means our boat is reserved for a private event. However, we do sometimes add new cruise dates or times if an opening becomes available, so please check back often.

Yes. Even though children age 3 and under are free, you need to register them for a ticket. This is because the Coast Guard counts all human passengers on the boat.

Please see our other FAQs for more information.

See what our guests are saying.

We had a great time on this tour. The captain had a great sense of humor and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. She not only talked about the architecture of the building style but had some great history and facts about them as well. We were even able to enjoy this with our toddler along for the ride! Would highly recommend for adults and families of all ages!

We had a great informational time on the tour. So many buildings, so little time! Even at 90 minutes the tour seemed to fly by. Our guide, Sean, did a great job keeping the same pace as the boat describing each building in great detail, builders, architects, year, styles, and revisions.

If you only have time for 1 thing to do while you are in Chicago, the architectural boat tour is it! So educational, pleasant and interesting. I really enjoyed it. The guide was incredible with the amount of knowledge he had of the buildings and the city and he weaved it into really engaging stories.

Historic Glass Bottom Boat Tour in Silver Springs

rei hiking gear

Long before the amusement parks that seem to take over tourists’ bucket lists when visiting Florida, there was Silver Springs. As Florida’s oldest attraction , Silver Springs attracted many tourists by steamboat to the Silver River until the late 1870s when the first glass bottom boat tour was born.

Now a Registered Natural Landmark, Silver Springs quickly became Florida’s first tourist attraction .

In fact, in the 1930s over 20 Hollywood films were filmed in this magical place.

In addition, many episodes of TV shows were also filmed here. In fact, rumor has it that actor Lloyd Bridges actually learned how to scuba dive in Silver Springs while filming the show Sea Hunt.

Undoubtedly, back then Silver Springs was prospering as Florida’s hit attraction with its glass bottom boat tours, tourist center, shops, and zoological demonstrations.

But later on, as tourists began traveling to the South to visit attractions like Disney and SeaWorld, there was a loss of interest in visiting Silver Springs.

Sadly, this caused a major decline in attendance at this amazing park.

Fast forward to today, Silver Springs State Park continues to be one of Florida’s most beautiful springs .

For over 100 years, this historic park continues to attract visitors who want to experience the world-famous glass bottom boat tour in Florida.

[BTEN id=”2594″]

Where is Silver Springs Located?

Silver Springs is located about 5.8 miles east of Downtown Ocala . The park has one main entrance on State Road 40 and another one for the camping sites just off State Road 35.

Can You Swim in Silver Springs?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions about this park. Unfortunately, no swimming is allowed in Silver Springs . However, kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing are permitted year-round.

How Much Does it Cost to Get in Silver Springs?

There are different admission prices to get into Silver Springs. If you park at the main entrance to the park, the admission is $2 per person .

Admission to the camping entrance is $8 per vehicle (for 2-8 people) and $5 per vehicle with just one occupant.

All About the Glass Bottom Boat Tour Adventure

Now that we got the main information out of the way, let’s talk about the fun stuff!

First things first…the weather!

The glass bottom tours only run when weather permits. All tours are stopped until the weather is clear and it’s safe to go in the water.

Mistakenly, this is something we did not do before heading out and we almost didn’t get to do the boat tour due to inclement weather.

Hence the reason why we encourage you to check the weather before making your trip to Silver Springs. You can thank us later!

Length and Pricing of the Glass Bottom Boat Tour

There are two main boat tours to choose from in Silver Springs.

  • You have the 30-minute tour (which is the one we did) and these are offered every day starting at 10 am and ending at 6 pm. The 30-minute glass bottom boat tour is $13 per adult, children ages 6-12 and seniors are $12, and kids 5 years and under ride for free.
  • And you have the extended 90-minute tour which is offered Friday through Monday with only 3 time slots to choose from —11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. The extended glass bottom boat tour is $25 per adult, children ages 6-12 and seniors are $20, and kids 5 years and under ride for free.

Although the park accepts walk-ins for the boat tours , we encourage you to book your reservation online , especially if you’re visiting in the Spring and Summer months.

Details of the Boat Tour

For the sake of giving you accurate information, we’ll only be sharing the in-depth details of the 30-minute tour which is the only one we’ve done.

The boat’s glass bottom allows for an impressively clear view of Crystal River’s underwater life .

Apart from having the opportunity to view many different species of fish and an Anhinga nesting area, there are some very interesting things you will also get to see on this tour.

shipwreck of glass bottom rowboat in silver springs

You’ll get a close look at the Sea Hunt original dock, used when filming the 1958 TV show, an original glass bottom rowboat from 1877 as well as abandoned underwater Greek statues that were actually props used on the 1960s TV show I Spy .

These statues were left behind after filming and had been completely covered in algae from being underwater for so many years.

A newly formed Silver Springs dive team cleaned out the statues making them now visible from the surface.

To summarize, this boat tour takes you around some of the feeder springs in the Silver River and ends with a breathtaking view of Mammoth Spring , which is the head spring in this river.

Wow, so interesting! I had no idea this spot even existed but was looking for more obscure spots to check out on a future trip to Florida. Thanks for the heads up on weather contingency, I would have absolutely missed that memo when planning!

Compliance status

Screen-reader and keyboard navigation.

  • Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all of the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website. These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
  • Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside of it.Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Disability profiles supported in our website

  • Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
  • Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
  • Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
  • ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
  • Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
  • Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.

Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

  • Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
  • Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over 7 different coloring options.
  • Animations – epileptic users can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
  • Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
  • Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
  • Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
  • Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.

Drunk Clearwater captain fell off boat while 30 people were attending tour: Police

CLEARWATER, Fla. - A 53-year-old boat captain was arrested and charged with boating under the influence on Friday afternoon, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

Witnesses told law enforcement that John Edward Beckwith, the captain of the Clearwater Fun Boat, was impaired to the point where he fell off the vessel just before 2 p.m. Police say when they spoke to employees on the boat they were told that Beckwith arrived at work stumbling and had food all over his face.

According to officers, the boat Beckwith was working on had 30 people attending a boat tour.

Authorities say Beckwith performed poorly on the field sobriety exercises and provided a breath sample of 0.118 and 0.115. The blood alcohol limit for boating is 0.08 in Florida.

Clearwater police say Beckwith's breath smelled like alcohol, he was unbalanced, and his eyes were bloodshot.

Beckwith has prior DUI convictions in Michigan and Arizona, according to law enforcement.

Officials say the incident is being investigated by the Clearwater Police Department and the Coast Guard.

Clearwater Beach tour boat captain was drunk on the job, fell off boat, police say

A tour boat captain stumbled into work on Clearwater Beach, voyaged out to sea and drunkenly fell overboard, police said.

John Beckwith, 53, was arrested Friday on a charge of boating under the influence. The captain for Clearwater Fun Boat Tours had 30 customers on board, some telling police he was so impaired he fell off the boat.

Employees told Clearwater police Beckwith “arrived to work stumbling and had food all over his face,” according to an arrest report.

Officers noticed his eyes were a bloodshot and smelled alcohol on his breath. Beckwith “performed poorly” on a field sobriety test and blew a 0.118 on a breathalyzer, which is over the 0.08 level at which Florida law says someone is impaired.

Beckwith was released Saturday afternoon without being required to post bail. The incident is Beckwith’s fourth charge for operating a vehicle while impaired, records show. He was convicted twice in Michigan and again for an “extreme DUI” in Arizona.

The Clearwater Beach tour provides customers a chance to spot dolphins playing in the waves “while indulging in a delicious ice cream sundae” on a “family-friendly boat,” according to the company’s website . Last year, it was awarded Tripadvisor’s “Travelers’ Choice Award,″ the website states.

Neither Beckwith nor a representative for the tour boat company could be reached by phone for comment.

PGA Tour pros hit the ugliest – and prettiest – shots you'll see Sunday at 2024 Valspar Championship

W ithin 30 minutes during the final round at the 2024 Valspar Championship a pair of PGA Tour players hit the best and worst shots you'll see from professionals.

First up was Robby Shelton.

Coming off his best season as a professional in 2023, the 28-year-old has been slow to start in 2024 and entered the week off a pair of missed cuts. He played his way to the weekend at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Florida, and on Sunday hit a shot he won't soon forget. Shelton made an albatross on the par-5 14th hole after he sunk his approach from 258 yards out in the fairway.

This thing was a laser-guided missile destined to find the hole.

https://twitter.com/PGATOUR/status/1771965658072219679

And then there was Peter Malnati, who has made headlines in recent weeks for his thoughts on the future of the PGA Tour and his touching reason for why he uses a yellow golf ball . In contention for his second win on Tour and first since 2015, Malnati found the fairway and pulled a hybrid from the bag for his second shot on the par-5 5th hole. With 291 yards to the cup, Malnati hit one of the uglier non-shanks you'll see from a pro. You can't quite call it a top because the ball somehow still went 172 yards, but he sure didn't catch it clean.

Even the broadcasters were confused about what they had just seen.

Professional golfers: sometimes they do the unthinkable and other times they're just like us amateurs.

Sleeper Picks: RBC Heritage

Sleeper Picks

Change Text Size

Taylor Moore (+6600) … When a guy keeps fulfilling targets as he did for a Top 5 at +900 for the Texas Children’s Houston Open (T2) and again for a Top 20 at +400 at the Masters (T20), both after an impressive T12 in his first-ever title defense at the Valspar Championship, is he really a Sleeper anymore? Better yet, because he keeps fulfilling the targets, there’s a progression that what the work is yielding must be piggybacked. So, here he is yet again, but this time to win. He debuted at the RBC Heritage last year with a T11 and he’s among the best on approach on the PGA TOUR this year. He’s also guaranteed a 16th consecutive payday, so he’s been in a groove for far longer than the recent surge.

Tommy Fleetwood (+333) … In full disclosure, the Brit was supposed to be in the Power Rankings. I simply glossed over my handwritten note that he was one of the 15 to include. My shortlist was at 19 but I wound up including one of the four that I had cut. That’s OK because, while continuity over time is important for that weekly preview, 15 still is an arbitrary target. So, perhaps that’ll be a happy accident that’ll follow the purposeful likes of Will Zalatoris at The Genesis Invitational (+650), Taylor Moore at the Texas Children’s (+900) and Collin Morikawa (+750) as golfers who have converted on this bet in Sleepers in 2024. Now, Fleetwood is but sixth-shortest for the same at the RBC Heritage, but part of that is a product of the fact that there are only 69 golfers in play. The rest is all him. He’s 3-for-4 at Harbour Town with a personal-best T10 in 2022, and he’s on the bounce of a T7-T3 the last two weeks. Also, he was a winner earlier this year at the Dubai Invitational.

Tommy Fleetwood finishes with birdie on No. 18 at Valero

Thomas Detry (+650) … While he’s rested since a co-runner-up at the Texas Children’s three weeks ago – his second top-four finish and fourth top 20 of his last eight, including a T4 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am where greens are similarly as small as Harbour Town’s – this is just as much about the overall fit for the track. En route to missing the cut in his debut last year, the course beat him up during his opening, 3-over 74, but among those who slammed trunks – well, gently lowered the liftgate via the key fob – no one scored lower than his 3-under 68 that followed. Proving that his game improves nearest the hole, he led the field at Memorial Park in scrambling.

Tom Hoge (+200) … Focusing only on the golfers for whom the kickback is at least twice the outlay, the available subset is thin in a small field, but it was a bona fide surprise to find him in it. He’s cashed only twice in six appearances, but that he continues to return is proof that he’s fond of Harbour Town. With the guarantee of four rounds for the first time this week, whatever demons he fights about the place won’t be a factor as it concerns contributing to the season-long cause, but his form in 2024 has been strong enough to bury the demons for good, anyway. He arrives with a consecutive cuts-made streak of nine that includes two top 10s and another four top 20s. Also, inside the top 20 on TOUR in greens hit and adjusted scoring, and he’s No. 1 in proximity to the hole and par-3 scoring.

Adam Svensson (+200) … With no cut and only 69 commits, BetMGM split the difference between a customary market for a Top 40 and presented this. And in a similar vein as the Top 20 market, the objective is to focus on the options that would double the return on investment. Among the dozen or so options is the Canadian in his third start, the first of which resulted in a T26 in a full field in 2022. He’s struggled of late but his skill set as a tee-to-green performer plays up at Harbour Town, so it’s not surprising that his scoring average in eight rounds on the par 71 is 69.38.

Odds were sourced at BetMGM.
