Tata Motors also unveiled the ‘Adventure’ persona of the Safari with an expressive and rugged look offering more options for customers to select the SUV that best matches their personality. The Adventure persona will be available in a Tropical Mist colour, inspired by the rich and diverse flora present across the vibrant landscapes of our country
Speaking on the launch of the new Safari, Mr. Guenter Butschek, MD and CEO, Tata Motors said , “The Safari as our new flagship is connecting the aspirations of the discerning and evolved SUV customers. It tops the ‘New Forever’ range of cars and SUVs launched in 2020 and marks another milestone in Tata Motors’ strategic transformation. The new Safari is an impressive endorsement of our stated intend of enhancing presence in the faster growing market segments. Its exceptional build quality and premium finish, power and performance augment the brand’s iconic legacy and amplify the key traits of the ‘New Forever’ range – safety, style, drivability and best-in-class features. We will make the Safari rule the Indian roads once again.”
Mr. Shailesh Chandra, President – Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “Safari had introduced India to the SUV lifestyle and in its contemporary avatar, the new Safari is in-sync with the multifaceted lifestyles of today’s SUV customer. With its plush interiors, state-of-the-art connectivity and premium features, the Safari not just blends in but ups the lifestyle quotient several notches higher. With the introduction of the ‘Adventure’ persona, customers have more choice to select the Safari that best complements their individual personality to ‘Reclaim Your Life’.”
The Safari is extremely versatile, delivering great comfort and assurance, be it intra city commute, expressway cruising or the un-explored paths in the hinterland. With a powerful 2.0 litre turbocharged Kyrotech engine and its 2741 wheelbase, the Safari will come with signature Oyster White Interiors paired with the Ashwood finish dashboard, a majestic panoramic sunroof – the widest and best-in-segment panoramic sunroof, along with 6 and 7-seater options, which will come with an 8.8-inch floating island infotainment system.
As with all Tata Motors products, the Safari consists of a variety of safety features such as all disc brakes, electronic parking brake and an advanced ESP with 14 functionalities. Coupled with the Boss Mode providing enhanced ride comfort, the Safari sure does give the executive customers a living room style ride experience. Furthermore, the vehicle will be available in additional colour options of Daytona Grey, Tropical Mist and Orcus White along with the signature Royal Blue.
Taking the style quotient a little higher, the newly introduced ‘Adventure’ persona will come with R18 black tinted charcoal grey machined alloys and an all piano black finish in its grille, roof rails inserts, outer door handles along with a Safari mascot placement on the bonnet. On the interiors, the ‘Adventure’ persona looks plush with signature earthy brown interiors, dark chrome interior accents on air vents, knob, switches, inner door handle and instrument cluster along with a piano black interior pack on steering wheel, grab handles, floor console frame and IP mid pad finisher. The all-new Safari will be available in nine variants, starting from XE and going up to the XZA+.
In its new avatar, the Safari takes forward the brand’s rich legacy by combining Tata Motors’ Impact 2.0 design language with the proven capability of OMEGARC, the architecture derived from the renowned D8 platform from Land Rover – the gold standard of SUVs worldwide. The OMEGARC, architecture has already proven its mettle with the success of the Harrier.
SUVs is the fastest growing passenger vehicle segment in the country and the new Safari will accelerate the momentum gained by the company’s consistently growing SUV sales which have resulted in a growth of 20% YTD when compared to the same period last year.
In a challenging year, Tata Motors has exhibited a stellar performance in the passenger vehicles market last year, by clocking in over 23,000 unit sales every month successively from October 2020. Furthermore, in Q3FY21, the Tata Motors PV business posted its highest sales in the last 33 quarters. The rising demand can be attributed to the BS6 range, which was launched last year, under the New Forever philosophy of the company. Demand was visible across all products of the New Forever range, including the premium hatchback Tata Altroz and the BS6 Harrier, which stole the show.

Two Months with the 2024 Tata Safari Facelift: A Short-Term User Review
- User Reviews
After meticulously researching and finally taking the plunge, I’ve spent the past two months exploring the Indian landscapes with my new companion, the 2024 Tata Safari Facelift. With over 6,000 kilometers already under its belt, it’s time to share my honest impressions and see if this refreshed SUV lives up to the hype.
First and foremost, comfort is king, and the Safari reigns supreme in this aspect. The plush, supportive seats envelop you, offering excellent cushioning even on extended journeys. The ample legroom and headroom in both rows ensure comfortable seating for five, while the panoramic sunroof adds a touch of airiness and natural light. However, the third row might feel cramped for adults on longer trips.
The revamped dashboard boasts a modern design, housing the new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The interface is responsive and user-friendly, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity keeping you entertained and connected on the go. The digital instrument cluster provides all the essential information clearly and stylishly. While the sound system delivers decent audio quality, it could benefit from a subwoofer for a richer bass experience.
Specifications:
My Safari comes equipped with the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, delivering 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. It offers a peppy driving experience, especially in the lower gears, making highway cruising and overtaking a breeze. The 6-speed automatic gearbox shifts smoothly, although occasional lags can be felt in stop-and-go traffic. The ride quality is generally good, absorbing bumps and imperfections with ease. However, the suspension feels slightly stiffer at lower speeds, making sharp turns a little less comfortable.
2024 Tata Safari Facelift Rivals:
The Safari faces stiff competition in the Indian market, with established players like the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV700, and MG Hector Plus vying for attention. Compared to the Creta, the Safari offers a more spacious cabin and a powerful diesel engine, while the XUV700 boasts a wider feature set and a more modern design. The Hector Plus, on the other hand, undercuts the Safari in price but lacks its road presence and engine options.
Two Months In:
Here are some key takeaways from my short-term ownership experience:
- Spacious and comfortable cabin
- Responsive infotainment system with connectivity features
- Powerful and refined diesel engine
- Modern and stylish design
- Value for money proposition
- Stiffer ride at lower speeds
- Occasional gearbox lag
- Third-row seating might be cramped for adults
- Certain features missing compared to some rivals
The 2024 Tata Safari Facelift is a compelling option for those seeking a comfortable, spacious, and feature-packed SUV without breaking the bank. Its powerful engine and modern design make it a worthy contender in the segment. While it has some minor drawbacks, the overall package is impressive, and I’m excited to see how it performs in the long run.
Beyond the Review:
- Fuel Efficiency: My real-world fuel efficiency has been around 14-15 kmpl in mixed driving conditions. Individual figures might vary depending on driving style and terrain.
- Long-term Reliability: With only two months of ownership, it’s too early to comment on long-term reliability. However, Tata has been improving its quality control in recent years.
- Maintenance Costs: Scheduled maintenance costs are reasonable, but unforeseen repairs could impact overall ownership costs.
- Test Drive and Comparison: Taking the Safari for a spin alongside its rivals is crucial to assess its ride quality, performance, and value proposition in a practical setting.

2000 km in 4 days with my new Tata Safari facelift: 10 Pros & 7 Cons
Had the Nexon EV Prime previously and currently own the Nexon EV Max, alongside the new Safari.
BHPian shashankw839 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
I am also a fellow Safari Accomplished Plus owner. I have recently purchased the car. I have been a strong EV enthusiast but there are no options in 7-seater cars in EVs so decided to pick up the Safari. I have owned the Nexon EV Prime before but my experience was not good and also now have the Nexon EV Max which has certain niggles too and I am waiting for a proper resolution still. I have owned tons of cars from different brands so far but love to support our brands and want them to succeed. However, I must sadly say that the customer service approach from our local brands particularly Tata and Mahindra is not up to the mark for sure. I’ll list some pros and cons I found with my car after driving it for 2000 in 4 days recently.
Tata Safari facelift Pros:
- The car is solidly built. The LR platform outshines on the highways. The car eats up the miles in comfort.
- Seating comfort for 7 passengers is quite good. I have the 7 seater configuration and 6 adults and 1 kid could travel without feeling cramped for space. The last row is usable by adults too.
- Cameras are crisp and clear in the daytime and are okay in the nighttime. The parking guidelines are accurate. The 360-degree camera and front and back sensors are a boon to handle the bulky size of the vehicle.
- The JBL music system is simply awesome. It’s too good for the car at this price point. The infotainment screen is crisp and Android Auto and Apple carplay being wireless is a very good feature.
- The car has ample charging sockets for all occupants. The utility part of the car is neatly done.
- Seats are super comfortable for all occupants. Just the right amount of cushion and ergonomics for everyone. Seat ventilation is a bonus.
- I am simply blown away by the suspension setup on the car. I have used luxury cars with 2x and 3x the price of the safari and they would also unsettle on some bad road conditions when driven with full load. However, the safari is rock solid on bad roads. The suspension setup is very impressive.
- The electronic power steering is light to drive and does not cause any fatigue. The driving position is perfect for my liking and I could do almost 500+ kms a day on an avg for 4 days straight without getting tired.
- The engine is very well refined and noise levels are well isolated from the cabin. A commendable job has been done to make the cabin experience smooth on the new version.
- The engine is very efficient as well. At lower three-digit speeds constantly, I could extract 13-15 km/l mileage with a full load which is very good.
Tata Safari facelift Cons:
- The legacy of cons remains and they need to be sorted by Tata ASAP for the product to succeed. The first and foremost is the fit and finish of the car. There are uneven panel gaps all over the cabin and on the exterior.
- The paint finish is not up to the mark at all places on the car. The fitment of plastic parts in the interior is not correct in many parts of the car. This causes some rattles when travelling.
- The biggest hit-and-miss is Adas functions. In 4 days of travel, I got ADAS sensor malfunction warnings around 6 times. Adaptive cruise control would become unavailable when the sensor used to go mad. Lane keep assist is not active and the lane departure warning is very late in responding. Collision assist also does not work well and is very late to warn even when sensitivity is set to the highest level. Overall ADAS calibration is not up to the mark. The only thing that I found working correctly was the rear cross-traffic alert.
- The OE tyres provided with the cars are hard. The lower trims get Bridgestones while the top trim gets MRFs with an odd size. The size 245/55 R19 is very odd and if you end up damaging one of your tyres, it is very hard to find a tyre of this size easily. I have upgraded my tyres to Pirelli Pzeros and they have made a huge difference to the car and its handling.
- There are hardly any accessories available for the car with TML. The floor mats they provided do not match and they say it might take some months for the mats to arrive. So the car gets dirty easily.
- As I said the cons continue and so another big issue is the lack of knowledge of the model with TML technicians. I took the car 2 times to the dealership so far and both times did not have a great experience. First, it was for the number plate fitment and the person there started fitting the plate right in front of the Adas sensor and was not even aware that he was going to block the radar. Fortunately, another technician was available who could understand what I was saying and then repositioned the plate. The second time the fog light was making noise and was loose and the technician mentioned that the full bumper needed to be taken down while it was just a matter of removing one cover from the wheel arch.
- The headlights on the car are not good at all for highway conditions. The throw is not bright enough and neither it is long enough. The spread is ok but the throw is hardly 150-200 feet even on a high beam. Tata needs to provide better headlights for sure for safety reasons. I had to drive very cautiously at night due to the bad headlights.
Overall, it is a great car and Tata has come a long way with its improvements, however, they need to solve the niggles and basic customer service issues asap to give the owners a better experience. The issues with ADAS need to be solved on priority because they are related to safety.
