Lancashire Canal Cruises

Our canal cruises depart daily from The Slipway Bar & Restaurant, Burscough, L40 0RN .

Join us and take in the wonderful rural settings of the area. Our narrowboat’s are named ‘Alfie Bhoy’, ‘Gunthorpe Belle’ and ‘Gunthorpe Star’ and they all seat 12 passengers in comfort and safety. Our boats are centrally heated and have washroom facilities.

Our canal trips include a Breakfast Cruise, an Afternoon Tea Cruise and Evening Cruises (Tapas, Hotpot and Fish & Chips)

Our boats are also available for a Half Day or Full Day charter and is fully licensed to serve alcoholic beverages.

A really nice assortment of cakes, chocolate, battenburg, fruit tart, scones cream and jam. plenty of fresh fruit, strawberries, raspberries, tangerine. Unlimited tea, with juice and a wine for the non driver. A very nice journey circa 2 hours, very informative about the area and it's history, learned so much.

Had a wonderful afternoon, the last trip before lock down 2. Greeted really well by our captain and host. Everything explained by really well. Plenty of food and really fresh. Beef chicken and cheese sandwiches, gerkins and tomatoes.

Fantastic experience plus I loved the hotpot loaded with mince and topped of with crisp baked crusty potato it's a slow look at what's on show that we miss in our cars it's a must do trip

Lovely afternoon tea cruise along the canal. Mark was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely recommend this.

It helped that it was a beautiful sunny day. The skipper, Mark was very insightful giving us a talk on the local history of the canal as we made our way to Burscough Wharf and back again.

Just got back from an amazing cruise with afternoon tea with this company. The food was lovely and fresh! The skipper, Mark was lovely and professional! He was so naturally friendly and explained everything about the history of barges and the area. He was so knowledgeable. The cruise itself was beautiful and relaxing.

What a wonderful experience! Mark was such a great host, very kind and helpful. We miss our trip because of car crash on the road, he not only accommodate us on the next trip but he make us fresh afternoon tea and he place us in the best part of the boat! Bluebell Narrowboat Holidays offer you canal holidays on one of the prettiest routes in Britain. Our two boats; Bluebell at 35’ long and Cornflower at 37’ long, are fully equipped with everything you need for a self-catering holiday in the English countryside. We give full operating and driving tutorials before handing over the boat—ideal for beginners and experienced cruisers alike. Green fields, quiet woodlands, stone bridge arches, and views of the amazing Morecambe Bay.  All this slips by as you gently trace the old waterway in your boat of choice.

Bluebell has been in the family since 2006 and she has been on hire for holidays since 2014. Cornflower was added to the fleet in 2020. We live only 6 miles away and are on hand for assistance when required. Our local know-how is extensive, so if there’s anything you’d like to know, just ask!

Welcome to Canal Boat Cruises, a fun, unique multi award-winning canal boat company operated by John and Lesley Yates and their children Ellie, Bridie and Louis, who all go the extra mile for each and every one of their guests. Enjoy a relaxing cruise aboard Romance, live the dream of going back in time 200 years to the time when the canals were built. Relax and unwind as you listen to pleasant background music and view the birds and animals that make their homes along the canalside. Romance is a luxury wide beam luxury canal boat holding up to 40 passengers with panoramic views to each seat, bow area where you can stretch your legs & meet new people, fully central heated for chilly days, fully licensed bar, catering and two toilets. Owners John and Lesley Yates have sought to combine their passion for Lancashire waterways with their individual skills, qualifications and experience to offer a unique experience cruising the Leeds Liverpool Canal in the heart of the idyllic Lancashire countryside. Canal Boat Cruises are open all year round from their base at Riley Green Marina.

For evening cruises we advise passengers to NOT use the garden centre car park - instead use the old pub car park which is left by the main gates then immediately left again. The main car park locks at 17:30 and we cannot get cars out if they get locked in.

This trip in my case was not like the advert. The boat seating was cramped and uninviting .The afternoon tea, was of poor quality and instead of being on smart cake stands as in the picture was on a plate between 2. There was no one on the boat except the skipper as the other chap jumpped off just after leaving so you couldnt ask for anything, you were just left. The scenery was, a lots of old delapadated canal barges. It was very disappointing and would not recommend it, there are much better canal boat trips locally..

I'm not a fan of 'afternoon teas' in posh places but when this deal came up on Groupon I though me and the wife might enjoy an hour or so on the open cut and so we did. Food was good and ample, drinks are provided free (Tea, coffee, wine and soft) with top ups if required. The trip itself was slow and peaceful, with occasional facts and story's from the skipper. Doing at most 4mph lets you really look at things on the waterway, Ducks have beautiful plumage that glows in the sun, moorhens are funny to watch as they dart about and sights not often seen present themselves to your view at an easy pace. It was a good trip in good weather but I can't comment on a rainy day cruise. I suppose it is down to pot luck on the day. I enjoyed it and I hope you will too.

This was my first trip on a narrow boat and it certainly didn't dissapoint, Upon arrival at the canal side we were greated by the skipper who made us relax with his happy and cheerful personality. I would recoomend that you don't sit on the first 2 tables as you board unless your happy to be chosen to open and close the locks, i was happy to do this but some my not. The afternoon tea was fresh and just enough for what you'd expect, the only downside was the wine that was served, it wasn't the best and to improve the experience i'd probably suggest something not so fruity. Overall i'd certainly recommend this cruise along a lovely part of the canal and we will certainly like to experience this again but would like to try a narrow boat ride for a longer experience as the 1hr 30min went so fast. We would also like to recommend the Roing O' Bells pub afterwards as it rounds the experience off just sitting outside enjoying a drink. Thanks for a great day and we'll definately be back.

I got this trip as a present off my son and his wife, and what a wonderful afternoon it was, plenty of food wine and tea, they also told you about what it was like in the old days on the canal, and if there was anything that you wanted you only have to ask, it was such a lovely way to send Sunday afternoon, and I would recommend it to any one.

We learnt a lot about canal and canal boats, even got to help steer and open a few gates! V accommodating host and full of knowledge. Very cute little route with plenty of refreshment

The plush décor and spacious feel of the Jungle Queen makes it ideal for any party size up to its maximum of 48 passengers . Inside the layout is designed with a large open floor space, high ceilings and adequate seating making it comfortable for everyone. There's easy access to both the bow and stern decks with seating and standing area on both for several passengers. 

Large windows run down both the port and starboard sides of the barge so you can make the most of the fantastic scenery as the cruise takes you through the idyllic countryside. The barge has full central heating for the colder days, hot and cold water and modern toilets that never fail to impress.
