A liquor and beverage consumption policy was created in order for Carnival to be able to control the liquor consumption of minors and the quantities consumed that lead to the disruptive behavior of others on board.

Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation Day

What items am I not allowed to bring?

Prohibited Items:

  • Alcohol (hard liquor) and beer
  • Wine or champagne beyond the allowable limit of one 750 ml bottle per adult (18 years of age or older)
  • Non-alcoholic beverages in containers other than a can or carton; excessive quantities per person (over 12 cans/cartons per person); exessive size per can/carton (over 375 ml each)

Carnival's Liquor and Beverage policy states that the guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages on board that are packed in bottles. What is Carnival's liquor and beverage policy?

Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages that are packaged in glass or plastic bottles.

On embarkation day, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, energy drinks, juice, and milk), packaged in cans or cartons, may be brought on board and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 375-ml each or less, per person.

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board with the following exception - at the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (18 years of age and older) may bring one 750-ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne, per person, in their carry-on luggage. Outside this exception, all liquor, beer, other forms of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked luggage and such items will be confiscated and discarded and no compensation will be provided . Guests sailing with us on back-to-back cruises are entitled to bring the same quantity as stated in this policy, per cruise. The additional quantities will be stored for safekeeping at the start of the first cruise and will be given to the guest as each following cruise begins.

Corkage Fee:

Should guests wish to consume their wine or champagne in the main dining room, specialty restaurant or bar, a $15.00 AUD corkage fee, per 750-ml bottle, will be charged. A corkage fee is a charge that is assessed, at time of service, for every bottle that is served and not bought on the premises.

Large cooler restrictions : Carnival Cruise Line does not allow guests to bring large coolers on board its ships. However small, personal-sized coolers, no larger than 30x30x30cm for the purpose of housing small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage. Screening and movement of large coolers through embarkation is an impediment to the boarding and security screening process. Therefore, large coolers are not permitted as carry-on or checked luggage.

Ports-of-Call : Alcoholic beverages of any kind purchased in any Port-of-Call will be retained at the gangway, stored on board and held by Carnival until the end of the voyage.

Drinking Alcohol On Board : The minimum age for the purchase and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the bars, lounges and gift shops is 18 years of age. In the event that Bar/Restaurant/Gift Shop staff are in question that a guest is less than 18 years old, they shall request picture identification, prior to serving the drink or selling the bottle of liquor. Carnival reserves the right to refuse the sale of alcoholic beverages to anyone.

This policy offers unlimited access to a wide range of beverages, ensuring that guests can enjoy their favorite drinks throughout their cruise vacation. In this article, we will delve into the details of Carnival Cruise’s beverage policy, providing you with all the information you need to know.

One of the most notable aspects of Carnival Cruise’s beverage policy is its all-inclusive nature. Unlike other cruise lines that may charge extra for certain beverages, Carnival offers an unlimited beverage package that covers a vast selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. From refreshing sodas and juices to premium spirits and cocktails, guests can indulge in their preferred beverages without worrying about additional costs.

When it comes to non-alcoholic options, Carnival Cruise has an array of choices to cater to every taste. Additionally, guests can savor handcrafted cocktails from the ship’s various bars and lounges, with options ranging from classic favorites to innovative creations.

To make the most of Carnival Cruise’s beverage policy, it is important to understand how it works. The package can be purchased either before your cruise or once you’re on board. Pre-purchasing the package allows you to secure it at a discounted price, providing excellent value for money. However, if you’re unsure about your beverage consumption or prefer to decide once you’re on the ship, you can also buy the package after embarkation. It’s worth noting that all adults (21 years and older) in the same stateroom are required to purchase the package if one person chooses to do so.

To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience, Carnival has implemented a user-friendly system for accessing beverages. Passengers receive a specially designed sticker on their cruise card, which serves as proof of their beverage package. This sticker is presented to the bar staff whenever ordering a drink, making the process quick and efficient. It’s important to note that the package is non-transferable and can only be used by the person who purchased it.

Changes to Carnival Cruise Line’s Liquor and Beverage Policy

carnival cruise carry on drink policy

Carnival Cruise Line has recently updated their Liquor and Beverage Policy to now restrict guests from bringing bottled beverages (alcohol or otherwise) onboard. More details from the policy are printed below:

• Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages onboard that are packaged in bottles.

• A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought onboard on embarkation day only in guests’ carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person.

• Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board with the following exception:

– At the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only , guests (21 years of age and older) may bring one 750 ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne per person in their carry-on luggage.

– A $15 corkage fee (a charge exacted at a restaurant for every bottle of wine served that was not bought on the premises), per 750 ml bottle, will be charged should guests wish to consume their wine or champagne in the main dining room, steakhouse or bar.

• All liquor, beer, other forms of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages outside of the exceptions referenced above are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked luggage and such items will be confiscated and discarded and no compensation will be provided .

• All alcohol purchased in ports of call or in the Fun Shops will be returned on the morning of debarkation.

• Guests are prohibited from bringing large coolers onboard since screening and movement of large coolers through embarkation is an impediment to the boarding and security process. However small, personal-sized coolers, no larger than 12″H x 12″L x 12″W for the purpose of housing small quantities of non-alcoholic beverages and/or medications are permitted as carry-on luggage.

To compensate for the inability to bring bottled beverages onboard, as part of this new policy Carnival has significantly reduced the pricing for spring bottled water which will be delivered directly to your stateroom. Pricing is as follows:

– $2.99 (plus tax) for a 12-pack of 500 ML of bottled water for pre-cruise purchase. You can visit www.carnival.com/funshops to place your order before your cruise to ensure they have an ample supply onboard.

– $4.99 (plus gratuities) for a 12-pack of 500 ML of bottled water for purchase onboard.

“We sincerely apologize for any disappointment these changes may cause,” Arlene Marichal of Carnival Cruise Line states in her email to travel professionals, “however, we firmly believe this will result in a safer environment while also improving the embarkation process and the overall guest experience.”

What do you think of Carnival’s new policy? Do you have any questions regarding any of the terms? Let us know in the comments below!
