The port of Naples is one of the major ports in Europe and second in the world after Hong Kong for passenger travel. The port is located in Piazza Municipio an ideal location to visit of the city. In addition, the port is well connected by public transport and is located about 15 km from Capodichino airport, just a few minutes from the motorway exit and 10 minutes from the Napoli Centrale train station in Piazza Garibaldi.

Passengers are boarded either from the Molo Beverello for hydrofoils, or from Calata Porta Massa from which larger ferries depart. A shuttle service to and from Piazzale Angioino, in Piazza Municipio, connects Calata Porta Massa with Molo Beverello from 0600 to 2400. Calata Porta Massa has many shops, pharmacies, waiting rooms, banks and bars. The Napoli Palermo boarding takes place at Piazzale Immacolatella. Pedestrian access to Calata Porta Massa is from the Immacolatella Vecchia Pass and the Pisacane Pass. Vehicles, which must show a valid reservation can access the port from the Pisacane gate or from the Bausan Pass. The Angioino Molo is the largest Maritime Station in the world dedicated to cruise ships.

Caronte & Tourist: ready for the new season and for the return of foreign markets

Caronte & Tourist

Caronte & Tourist is ready for the new season and for the return of foreign markets. With a fleet of 21 ships connecting destinations and islands in the Mediterranean, the shipping line was founded over 50 years ago.

"For example our routes make it possible to bypass the highways of Calabria and reach Sicily and the smaller Sicilian islands more comfortably," says Claudio Di Mare, passenger area sales manager of the Caronte & Tourist Group.

Claudio di Mare Caronte & Tourist

The Caronte & Tourist Group also counts Cartour, Siremar which connects to the smaller Sicilian islands, Sardinian subsidiary Maddalena Lines, and Blu Navy with crossings between Tuscany and Portoferraio, and also operates on Mediterranean islands with challenging ports.

"For example on Alicudi, a small island that is little more than a rock, the port is just a concrete quay jutting out into the sea, and the same is true for Stromboli and Marettimo.  The ships that operate these services are specially designed for these situations, and depending on the weather conditions there can be days when crossings have to be cancelled.”

“We are hoping for a return of foreign markets”

“In 2020 our ships were non-Covid, and in 2021 we saw the first real signs of recovery that became more apparent in 2022. We are hoping for a return of foreign markets. We are ready for the new season, although our season does not stop with the summer, because in addition to passengers we also transport goods."

Galaxy (ex-Silesia) (A Ships Management)

The Messina shipping company Caronte & Tourist... has confirmed to SHIPPING ITALY that it has chartered the Galaxy ferry until the beginning of the summer; [the ship] is expected in Sicily next week. Its use has not yet been made public (being a class A ferry it can also operate on connections with Pantelleria and Lampedusa from Trapani and Porto Empedocle) and Caronte & Tourist let it be known that the company has "launched an ordinary maintenance plan which rotation will affect some of our ships. The chartered ferry will therefore not be used on a particular line but as needed". This charter contract was brokered by the naval brokerage firm Ferrando&Massone.

The risk of a stop to connections with the Sicilian islands starting tomorrow, Sunday 1st October, has been averted. The Region has reached an agreement with Caronte & Tourist whereby the shipping company, until the conclusion of the negotiated procedure currently underway, will manage the service under a free market regime for the Aeolian and Egadi archipelagos and for Ustica , while a one-month technical extension for connections with Pantelleria was signed.
