After more than half a century of crisscrossing the globe to spread the warm smell of colitas, the Eagles have announced the dates for their final tour . Dubbed “The Long Goodbye,” the trek will feature fellow Rock and Roll Hall of famers Steely Dan opening up the shows, which are slated to kick off Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” read a statement from the group. “Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful.”

But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle,” the band continued in its announcement, noting that the farewell run is still in the planning stages, with more dates to be announced at a later time. “We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round… The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand.  But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

For the six new dates added between Jan. 19 and March 13 next year, pre-sale starts on Wednesday, Nov. 1, and general on-sale is Friday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. local time.

The Eagles are ready to fly one last time, soaring for a farewell tour this fall to cap off their five decades of touring.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” the “Hotel California” and “Desperado” hitmakers said in a Thursday statement .

“We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful. Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle.”

The Los Angeles-formed rock band — eternally associated with the Southern California country-rock sound — will launch their Long Goodbye tour in New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7, announcing 12 additional dates Thursday with the possibility of more to come. However, no California dates have yet been announced.

“The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round. So, scheduling information will be released as dates are set,” said the band, whose current lineup includes drummer and vocalist Don Henley, famed guitarist Joe Walsh, bassist Timothy B. Schmit and guitarist Vince Gill. Gill joined the band after founding member and guitarist Glenn Frey died at 67 in 2016 . (Frey’s son Deacon also played with the band for nearly five years before announcing his departure in 2022 .)

“The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up,” they said. “Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. The six-time Grammy Award-winning group and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will be joined by contemporary act Steely Dan, whose members will be commemorating their own half-century spanning career as well.

The bands have scheduled shows through mid-November in Boston, Newark, Denver, Indianapolis, Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C., Lexington, Ky., and St. Paul, Minn. The Long Goodbye tour follows their recently expanded Hotel California tour , named for their landmark 1976 album that they played in its entirety during the tour, which wrapped in Baltimore in April.

Don Henley still has what it takes!! You must see him live if he comes anywhere near your town! 2016 showed how quickly life can change. It was a real wake up call losing so many talented people.

Life is too short not to do what you love. I love to see Don Henley live so I am doing that. 3x in one week....

He is in good humour,telling backstories to some of the songs before he sings. And sing he can!!! He still hits the high notes and belts it out! His voice is smooth like honey, sometimes raspy as if from the honeycomb.

His band of musicians are tight as a drum, pun intended,very clean, very precise. He now has a horn section and last, but not least, three beautiful young women backup singers.

Last August I drove 1800 miles round trip for a chance to see him. Yesterday and today I drove 900 miles roundtrip to see him at the Fox in Atlanta. He treated us with his version of Rainy Night In Georgia,which was so fitting with the storms that rolled through there.

And just to clarify how much I love to see this man perform, tomorrow I am driving to Clearwater,FL to see him and again the next day, driving to Hollywood, FL. Then he's off to Australia for a tour.

He sings a few songs from his last solo album, Cass County,and mixes up songs from his earlier solo albums, great hits like Boys of Summer, End of the Innocence and Dirty Laundry,several Eagles songs such as Hotel California and Life In The Fast Lane. I won't tell you what his encore is.......you will have to go when you get a chance and find out.

I hope someday to meet him and have a photo taken with him. He is a brilliant songwriter as well as singer. I have always been a lover of lyrics. The depth of his songs is what attracted my attention. I've been following the Eagles and the individuals since 1972.......enough said.

Don Henley is an amazing rock singer, and drummer, who was originally known as a member of The Eagles. He went on to make a massive solo career based from his absolute talent. He is able to play massive venues, and fill them up with die hard fans.

I've seen him twice, the first was in the 1990's in New York (a amazing concert with Sting and Billy Joel!) and more recently in 2011.

Some songs make the audience get hyped up and active such as "Dirty Laundry" and "The Boys of Summer." While showing the range he is capable of, other songs like "The End Of Innocence" makes the crowd go quiet as they feel deeply about the lyrics being sung. The lyrics can be deep, or light and fun.

Although Don Henley has been around since the 1970s, his voice is still as exceptional today as it was decades ago. His performances will grab your complete attention at the start, then you will be fully engaged during the show, and a bit sad and longing for more when it is over. His songs will always be timeless classics, and his performances unforgettable. Seeing Don Henley live is not something you want to miss out on!

Such a surreal experience. Don Henley live does not disappoint, he is a class act. Enjoyed every single song, and his humor too! It was a fantastic show! I'd LOVE for him to come back to the Bay at a more intimate venue, the band was amazing, and the 3 young women were outstanding but it's hard to feel the music at the Greek, lots of concrete!

Don Henley was fabulous! It was everything I expected and more. Loved how he sang tears for fears. If I could say one thing to Mr.Henley it would be an apology for how the audience was so rude and loud between songs. I was embarrassed for our home town for treating him that way.

Even with all that I would see him again and again.

Don Henley was classic and great. He played a mix of old favorites and new songs. Was not disappointed. Made us cry when he dedicated a song to Glenn Fry. Would go see him again and again.

The Eagles Announce 'The Long Goodbye' Final Tour: 'The Time Has Come to Close the Circle'

The band's last ever tour begins on Sept. 7 in New York City

The Eagles are soaring one final time! 

On Thursday, the band announced that after more than 50 years of touring and 150 million albums sold worldwide, their upcoming “The Long Goodbye” tour will be their last. 

“Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle. The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages,” the band said in an emotional statement.

"The Long Goodbye" tour will feature Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill and Deacon Frey — son of the late Glenn Frey , one of the founding members of the band — and begins on Sept. 7, 2023, in New York City. 

The band said they hoped to see as many fans as possible on the final tour and announced 13 initial dates across America, along with support act Steely Dan .

In their announcement, the band also noted the long, and at times challenging, journey since they formed in 1972. 

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” they said, adding thanks to their management team, road crew and backup musicians. 

Deacon, 30, rejoins The Eagles for the final tour after it was announced last year that he was leaving the band after 4 and a half years to “forge his own path.” He initially joined the band in 2017 after his father Glenn died in 2016 at 67 years old.

During an illustrious career spanning more than five decades and six No. 1 albums, the band's 1976 album “Hotel California” and its eponymous title track remain their most well-known and well-loved music. “Every band has a peak, and that was ours,” drummer and vocalist Henley told Rolling Stone in 2016 . 

Despite winning two Grammy awards, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 and receiving the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016, the band made it clear that, for them, it’s all about the fans. 

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades," they said in their release.

“This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”  Presale tickets and VIP packages for 'The Long Goodbye' are available from July 12 for all announced shows. General ticket sales open Friday, July 14 at 10 a.m.

The Eagles — composed of Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit — will be joined onstage, as they have since the  2016 death of founding member  Glenn Frey, by Vince Gill and Frey's son, Deacon.

Who has skipped over Florida on their most recent tours?

Multiple artists have breezed past Florida on their recent tours and opted for other southern cities. Not everyone can make the drive up to Atlanta or New Orleans to see their favorite artist, which means a concert also includes buying a plane ticket and a hotel room for the night.

Whether it's for logistics or not enough, here are some artists who didn't come to Florida on their current or most recent tour:

• Olivia Rodrigo : The "Vampire " songstress broke streaming records and won multiple Grammys for her 2021 debut album "Sour." However, when it came to her first headlining tour in 2022, it came as a brutal surprise for Florida fans to see zero stops for us. There is hope that the 21-year-old will finally perform in Florida when she tours with her sophomore album this September, "Guts."
• Boygenius : The trio — composed of indie powerhouses Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus — set off on tour earlier this summer to promote their album "the record." Clips of the singers performing their hit songs and joking around on stage have gone viral on social media. Yet, Florida is nowhere on their tour date schedule and is left out of the inside jokes.
• Foo Fighters : The Seattle-based rock bank is currently touring internationally. They returned this year to the scene with " But Here We Are ," their first album since the sudden death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022. During the U.S. leg of the tour, there were no Florida dates.
• Metallica : The iconic American heavy metal band is taking their M72 world tour to the U.S. in August in New Jersey. It promises over 77 minutes of music with 12 new songs for fans to bang their heads to. Despite the long list of cities and venues, Florida didn't make the list.
• Dead & Company : Heading off on their final tour , the impressive line-up of former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann, along with John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chiment have left off Florida on their last stops. It is also worth noting they canceled their previous 2021 Florida tour dates due to routing and production logistics. They released a statement apologizing and offering refunds, adding that "Dead & Company is looking forward to performing in West Palm Beach and Tampa in the future.”

The Eagles aren’t “takin’ it easy” on their 2023 farewell tour.

After announcing there would be 13 concerts on their ‘Long Goodbye Tour,’ the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers just added six new dates to their fall run of shows with special guest Steely Dan.

That includes a second show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden .

Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill and Glenn Frey’s son Deacon Frey will now play back-to-back nights at MSG on Thursday, Sept. 7 and Friday, Sept. 8 .

After that, they’ll perform at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on Sept. 16 and Long Island, NY’s UBS Arena on Sept. 20.

Other new dates include shows in Boston , Denver , Indianapolis , Atlanta and St. Paul .

On the road, he’ll be joined by 75-year-old Joe Walsh (also of the James Gang), 75-year-old Timothy B. Schmit (bassist and vocalist, played with Poco), 22-time Grammy winner 65-year-old Vince Gill and the late Glenn Frey’s 30-year-old son Deacon.

Over the course of their illustrious career, the band has racked up six Grammy awards, performed over 1000 concerts and sold 150 million albums.
