Visiting Longleat Safari Park this Summer? This post is full of money-saving tips and tricks for when you visit Longleat including how to get cheap Longleat tickets, how to save money on food and more.
Save Money When Visiting Longleat Safari Park
The famous Longleat Safari Park is a popular summer day out here in the west country – we’re actually planning a trip ourselves at some point over the holidays.
While it does make for a fabulous day out and seeing all the animals roaming about is AMAZING, it certainly isn’t cheap.
Tickets to Longleat Safari Park for a family of four come in at well over £100, which feels like a lot when there are so many amazing activities out there for much less, or even for free. For us, visiting Longleat takes over an hour of travel time too, so there is also the cost of petrol to factor in.
However, the summer holidays are for having fun so we save extra hard to be able to do a few not so cheap things as a special treat. And of course, there are always ways to save a bit of extra cash when visiting Longleat too.
What Is The Best Time To Visit Longleat Safari Park?
In my opinion, the best time to visit Longleat Safari Park is during term time if you can and feel happy taking your children out of school or can fit it around an inset day.
If that doesn’t work then a weekend in the low season would probably be best in terms of how busy the park is. We’ve also been on a weekday during the school holidays which wasn’t too bad.
Our most recent trips have both been on school holiday weekends and I don’t think we would choose that time to go again.
The level of crowds and cars in the Safari meaning long queues meant we enjoyed these trips much less than previous ones.
1. Get Cheap And Discounted Longleat Tickets
Booking your tickets is by far the most expensive part of a trip to Longleat Safari park and looking back on trips from a couple of years ago ticket prices have increased by around £15 per ticket for adults.
However, there are a fair few ways you can get cheap and discounted Longleat Tickets
- Children Under 2 and carers go free
- 30% off tickets for Emergency Services workers, military personnel, NHS staff and Blue Light Card holders (ID/Blue Light Card required on arrival)
- Parties of 12 or more get 20% off
- Children with a Blue Peter Badge and Card go free with one full paying adult (although there are lots of T&Cs with this one so do double check before arrival)
- Tesco Clubcard Vouchers can be exchanged for Longleat Tickets
- Center Parcs Longleat guests can get a small discount on entry prices
If you’d like to find out more, I have a dedicated post which covers all of the above with more details about how and when these discounts can be used.
How To Get Cheap & Discounted Longleat Tickets (9 Ways!)
2. Take A Packed Lunch
Might sound obvious but taking a packed lunch will save you a fortune and means you can save your pennies for treats – we usually get ice creams! If you’re in need of thrifty lunch box inspiration check out this post .
We tend to munch ours while driving around the safari bit so save lugging bags about once inside the main park but will usually take a few drinks and snacks along with us.
3. Double Check Opening And Closing Times
If a day out is costing over £100 you want to ensure you make the most of every minute.
Park opening hours are longer during the summer so plan to arrive early and stay late.
This also means being able to make the most of attractions as queues will be shortest straight after opening and right before closing time.
Also, be aware that even after arriving it can take a while to get to the safari. On our last trip we arrived at the entrance gates bang on 10 am and it took almost 45 minutes to get checked in and drive around to the Safari – and this was on a quietish Saturday in March, not during peak season or school holidays.
4. Make Sure You Get Your Money’s Worth
Okay, this one might be obvious to some but it was something we’d never even thought about until a friend of mine suggested it.
He’d been frequently taking his daughter to Longleat because she was animal mad and confessed on one occasion they never even left the car – just drove around the safari bit over and over again.
While this would mean missing out on everything the main park has to offer a second trip around the safari before leaving is now a must for us.
Especially if a lot of the animals were asleep or hiding due to rain earlier in the day. However, this may not be possible during peak times when everyone is given set times for entering the Safari.
Make sure you check the Safari last entry time before doing this – it’s usually an hour before park closing time.
5. Avoid the Monkeys
While venturing into the monkey enclosure is great fun – be warned – they will damage your car. I know because they chewed up both an ariel and a windscreen wiper of ours that we then had to pay to get fixed.
There are warning signs before you enter and the enclosure is completely avoidable should you wish – just drive right on past!
Longleat isn’t the only fantastic Safari Park in the U.K – Asha from Yeah Lifestyle has a fab review of Knowsley Safari in Prescott if your visit to to the U.K takes you further north.

How To Save Money On Longleat Tickets
We recently visited Longleat for the first time in a couple of years and were astonished to find that even after booking ahead, ticket prices had increased by £15 per adult!
So, I decided to take a look at some of the ways you can save money on Longleat tickets if you’re planning a trip to the Safari and animal park in the coming months.
What Is The Price Of Longleat Tickets?
These are the standard price of Longleat tickets when booked online or purchased at the gates.
The Longleat website advises booking tickets in advance to avoid any disappointment on the day as it can get reach full capacity, especially during the summer months and during special events such as the winter light spectacular.
Adult (16yrs+) £39.95
Child (3-15yrs) £29.95
Infant (0-2yrs) £0.00
Carer (Any) £0.00
What Does My Longleat Ticket Include?
The price of your Longleat ticket includes the drive through Safari and access to the main park where you’ll find lots of exciting things to do including the hedge maze, children’s adventure zone, Rockin’ Rhino ride, animal adventure zones, boat rides to see the Sealions and Gorillas and the Longleat Railway.
Ticket prices do not include a tour of Longleat House (this is an additional £4.95 per person) or access to the Longleat Safari bus (which is an additional £9 per person) for those who do not wish to take their own vehicles through the Safari.
There is also an additional charge of £1 for fish if you would like to feed the Sealions.
Longleat is a cashless site and so all transactions must be made via card payment.
Can I Get A Refund On A Prebooked Longleat Ticket?
Longleat does not give refunds on pre-booked tickets but you can move your tickets to another date later in the year. This costs £5 per person and can only be done three times.
When pre-booking Longleat Tickets you will be offered insurance for £5 (to cover your whole booking) and this would allow you to claim a refund if you were later unable to use the tickets.
We actually did this for a recent trip as one of our party has some medical issues and it did give us peace of mind should we not be able to go for whatever reason.
Here’s the bit you’ve been waiting for! How to save money on Longleat tickets.
Save Money On Longleat Tickets By Investing In An Annual Pass
One of the best ways to save on Longleat tickets is to invest in an annual pass. This cost around £100 for an adult and slightly less for children over the 60s.
If you are able to visit Longleat more than three times over the course of a year, you’ll be saving money. This is perfect for those that live locally or visit the local area often.
Longleat annual passes also entitle you to 20% off VIP experiences and 10% off in shops and food outlets around the site.
Annual pass holders are advised to book tickets in advance during peak times – there is a nominal fee for this of £1 which is donated to charity.
Emergency Services and Military Longleat Discounts
Longleat offers a 30% discount to those in the Military and those working for the emergency services.
This discount can be used for military or emergency services personnel and up to five guests, all arriving at Longleat at the same time. Under 3s are not included in this number.
Military or Emergency Services ID will be required as proof of eligibility on arrival.

Company ID or Blue Light Card is required to be shown on arrival.

Longleat Discounts For Blue Peter Badge Holders
Does your child have Blue Peter Badge and Card? If they do, they are entitled to one free Longleat ticket with a full-paying adult.
The Longleat Blue Peter badge discount cannot be booked in advance, is not valid during the winter season and cannot be combined with any other discount.
As Longleat, themselves advise booking ahead to avoid disappointment I’m not sure I’d want to risk arriving without pre-booked tickets only to be turned away.
Turn Tesco Vouchers Into Cheap Longleat Tickets
The great thing about Tesco Club Vouchers is that when you spend them at Longleat you can get up to three times their value (although this will be changing to two times their value from June 14th 2023).
Simply create a voucher on the Tesco website and then use it towards the cost of your Longleat tickets. You can pay the difference so there’s no need to have the full amount in vouchers to take advantage of this offer.

Longleat Discounts For Large Groups
If you’re booking Longleat Tickets for a party of twelve people or more then you can get a 20% discount by booking through the link below.
Longleat Group Discount Tickets
Longleat Local Discount Tickets
Did you know that Longleat offer discounts to those living locally within certain postcodes?
Adults can save £15 on the cost of an annual pass and children can save £11.25.
When purchasing your annual passes as a local resident you’ll need both ID and proof of address to claim the discount.
How To Save Money On Longleat Tickets – Final Hints & Tips
Here are some final hints and tips for saving money on Longleat tickets.
Staying at Center Parcs Longleat? You may be able to get discount tickets
If you’re staying Center Parcs Longleat you may be able to get a discount when booking tickets to Longleat. This wasn’t something I was able to confirm – in the past the discount has been around 20% but from what I can see it’s now only £5 on the days you can choose are quite limited.
If you have a Blue Light Card, for example, this would likely provide a much better discount.
Always Check For Special Events
When booking tickets for Longleat you want to check whether there are any special events running and whether these are included in the cost of your ticket or are something you’ll need to pay extra for.
Double Check Opening Times For Your Visit
Opening times at Longleat change throughout the year. The summer months tend to be busier, but there’s also a better chance of the animals being out and about and not hiding away due to inclement weather.
My ideal time to visit Longleat is midweek, during the summer but before the school holidays. We try to make the most of this by using a school inset day for our visits.
Take Your Own Food
There are loads of picnic areas around Longleat so taking your own lunch is definitely a great money-saving option. Not only is food expensive, but you can also end up queuing for a long time which then takes away from time exploring the park.
Are you heading to Longleat soon? I really hope this post helps you save money on Longleat tickets!

The Festival of Light: Longleat Safari Park at Christmas
Are you needing to get into the Christmas spirit? If so, the Longleat Festival of Light is sure to bring festive cheer and wonder to even the Grinchiest of souls!
This glowing walk through light trail in Wiltshire is certainly a sight to behold, with it’s ginormous show-stopping lanterns and dazzling light displays as far as the eyes can see.
So grab your winter coat and wrap up warm, ready to soak in all the festive atmosphere Longleat Safari Park has to offer!
In this article...
How much are tickets for Longleat’s Festival of Light?
This year there are 3 types of tickets to chose from for the Festival of Light:
- Day ticket with the safari
- Day ticket without the safari
- Twilight ticket
The prices vary depending on whether you require a full day ticket to explore the entirety of the park, or if you’re happy purchasing a slightly cheaper ‘twilight’ ticket, which gives you entry from 3pm for the Festival of Light. There are peak and off-peak pricing options too. But in all cases, under 3’s go free!
With no discounted family ticket options available, an all day trip to Longleat Safari Park can work out pretty costly at £174.80 for a family of 4. Whereas the peak twilight ticket will come in at £104.80, which may make this trip a little more accessible for some.
It’s also worth mentioning there are some optional additional charges once you’re in too! Like the Santa train for example, but we will get to that later.
What is there to do at Longleat safari park?
Longleat is actually the UK’s OG safari ! In 1966, it became the first drive through safari park to open outside of Africa!
Other than enjoying the festival of Light, you can carefully drive your own car through the animal safari where you will pass elephants, lions, tigers, deers and wolves. You’ll also have the option to cruise through Monkey Mayhem, where you’ll likely experience a cheeky monkey perched on your bonnet whilst another clambers along your roof. Just be aware, these monkeys have been known to peel off wiper blades like banana skins. So, if you’re particularly precious about your car, you may wish to bypass a trip through the chaos that can sometimes be caused in Monkey Mayhem!
Other than the Safari, house and array of animals to see and learn about. There is a huge park for the kids, a fun Rockin’ Rhino ride, plus the chance to take a ride on the train and boat. You’ll also find the largest maze in all of Britain here!
Longleat is vast and there’s loads to explore. The safari itself can take 2-3 hours to complete, so you can easily spend an entire day here.
Top tip: To avoid becoming the lions lunch, motorbikes and soft top cars aren’t allowed to drive through the safari.
What’s the address for Longleat safari park?
Longleat is just off the A36 between the picturesque city of Bath and Salisbury. As you get closer to Longleat, you’ll see plenty of brown tourist signs to help guide you the rest of the way. Or, tap the following postcode straight in to your google maps:
Longleat, Warminster, Wiltshire, BA12 7NW
How long is the Festival of Light on for?
The festival of light only runs for a few months out of the year. Opening on selected dates between 11th November 2023 – 7th January 2024 . Head over to the Longleat website to see which days they are open.
What is Longleat’s Festival of Light?
The Festival of Light is an immersive walking trail which winds it’s away around the grounds of Longleat Safari Park. This year the light trail has 1500 exciting and incredibly detailed glowing lanterns, with some stretching over 15 meters high! Plus theres other impressive light shows to admire too, like the enchanted Christmas Tree show.
Every year they unveil a different theme for their Festival of Light, so if you’ve been before – know that it will be a different theme the following year.
What is the 2023 theme at Longleat?
The 2023 Festival of Light is named Treasured Tales , so get ready to step into all of your favourite childhood books this year. The epic displays will include scenes from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Cinderella, Snow White, and The Wizard of Oz to name a few!
My photos are from a previous year, where the theme was ‘Myths & Legends’.
Are dogs allowed?
As Longleat is a safari and home to many animals. No dogs (or pets of any sort) are allowed.
Do you have to pay to park
There is no additional charge for parking at Longleat, its included in your ticket price.
Longlest Festival of Light blue light card holder discount
Longleat offer a discount to any blue light card holders when tickets are prebooked online in advance.
They offer a blue light discount on the twilight tickets too, plus you get earlier access than the regular twilight tickets with entry from 11am instead of 3pm.
Whats the Enchanted Christmas Tree show?
Be sure to head over to the Enchanted Christmas Tree during your visit to The Festival of Light. Illuminated with over 88,000 twinkling fairy lights, this singing christmas tree stands a whopping 15 meter high! This year the tree has been fitted with multiple snow machines to provide you with a magical flutter of snow and even more Christmas cheer.
The Enchanted Christmas Tree show has a duration of 15 minutes, which is repeated every 20 minutes between 3:30pm-7:10pm.
Can you drive the safari with a Festival of Light ticket?
You’ll be able to drive the 6.5 mile safari with your Festival of Light safari day ticket. It’s worth remembering that during the winter, last entry for the drive-through Safari is at 2pm. The safari is unavailable for people who have booked ‘non safari’ and ‘twilight’ tickets.
Top Tip: Some of the animals don’t enjoy the cold too much, and will be snuggled up inside in the warm. Which means you may not see quite so many out and about on the winter safari!
Is the Santa train an extra charge at Longleat?
Fancy a quick trip to the North Pole whilst you’re here? Then you’ll need to fork out even more money, as a ticket for the Santa Train is an additional cost on top of your Festival of Light ticket. Adult tickets for the Santa train are £6.95 each, and children are £22.50 each.
For the adults, the train ride to visit Father Christmas includes a hot chocolate and a mince pie. Whereas the children’s tickets will include a gift instead. If you’re bringing a baby along (who doesn’t require a gift) then they wont need a train ticket and can stay bundled up in your arms for the ride.
Longleat Christmas light show
Back again, but this year it’s bigger and better! This dazzling light show is synchronised to music and projected onto the front of Longleat House – a little bit like the Saks light show in NYC! Plus, there’s even more magic to be found at the all new fountain show on half mile pond.
How long do you need to spend at the Festival of Light?
You’ll probably find you’ll be here for the majority of your twilight ticket. Even though the lights get switched on around 3:30pm, the Festival of Light comes alive once the night sky turns dark. I would advise to allow 2-3 hours to see it all.
Food options at the Festival of Light
Around the main square you’ll find seasonal pop up stalls offering some tasty takeaway options like hot dogs, dirty fries and loaded nachos. There’s vegan options on the menu too, and nearby you can tuck into something sweet with some mouthwatering churros!
Or you could head over to Pizza Piazza for a delicious little slice of Italy, and if you’re looking for somewhere warm to sit down, the regular cafes are open too.
Is the Festival of Light wheelchair friendly?
The majority of the Festival of Light takes you along flat, concrete paths. Making it accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs.
Places to stay near Longleat’s Festival of Light
Longleat has a few fabulous accommodation options on site. I think the best one looks like ‘Keepers House’ or ‘Keepers Cottage’ which is situated in the heart of the safari! Imagine waking up and seeing a zebra right outside of your window?!
Theres also Longleat Centre Parcs just down the road, although I recommend booking well in advance as the lodges get snapped up quickly.
For cheaper options, maybe look a smidge further away at Frome , Westbury or Warminster .
Top tips for visiting the Festival of Light
To help you be extra prepared for your trip, here’s a few tips:
- The cheaper twilight tickets sell out fast, book early if you want one.
- Be sure to prebook your Santa train tickets. You cant just turn up on the day and they aren’t included in your entry fee.
- Don’t miss watching the Enchanted Christmas Tree show – it’s really beautiful.
- Expect everywhere to get extra busy from 3pm when all the twilight ticket holders start to arrive!
- Some attractions like the Lorikeet Aviary, Boat Safari and the Maze, will close before the Park does (they wont open in the dark).
- To help beat the queues, order food before the influx of twilight guests arrive.
- The catering areas and shops are only accepting debit card/credit card/smartphone payments.
- It’s a good idea to pack a power bank in your bag. You don’t want your phone battery to run out with all the photos you’re going to be taking.
Longleat Safari Park is a special destination for a family day out, and there’s no doubt in my mind that you’ll make heaps of lovely memories together here. Yes, it might be a bit of a splurge for a day trip. But the sheer magic and wonder of the place, especially during the immersive Festival of Light, makes it a unique experience that’s sure to captivate everyone, young and old alike.

Explore the UK's first safari park at Longleat
Longleat, wiltshire.
Feed giraffes by hand and walk on the wildside with lemurs at this popular safari park, found in the picturesque grounds of historic Longleat House.
First opened in 1966, Longleat Safari Park was the first drive-through attraction of its kind outside Africa, and it's still running strong today. With countless species of animals and attractions like Penguin Island, Stingray Bay, Jungle Cruise and an adventure castle, it's a great day out for the entire family. Explore the animal habitats on a road tour through the park, before stepping onto the Main Square and venturing into koala habitats, outdoor playgrounds and hedge mazes.
Special events run throughout the year, including the ever-popular Festival of Lights over the Christmas period; this large display of illuminated Chinese lanterns adorns the entire parkland and adds a touch of festivity to everything. And, of course, visitors can also extend their stay in the area with a tour through Longleat House and its surrounding pleasure gardens.
Longleat Safari Park is due to re-open on Monday 15 June - make sure to check the website through the link below for availability and opening times.

Access guidance
- We understand that certain guests require additional assistance in order to be able to fully enjoy their visit. The Queue Assist Scheme is designed to allow eligible guests to access Rockin Rhino, the Jungle Cruise and the Longleat Railway with greater ease. Though the scheme will not reduce the waiting time for these attractions, it enables eligible guests to forgo waiting in the queue line and to access the ride via alternative means at a designated time (subject to availability). For more information, please visit our website.
- Access to some of our attractions is "historic" and may be via cobbled pathways, steps or steep ramps. Access to Longleat House for visitors with limited mobility and for wheelchair users is via the rear of Longleat House. Please ask a member of staff if you would like to use the lift, which provides access to all floors. On the advice of the fire service, only two wheelchair users are allowed on any floor; so we can accommodate four wheelchairs in the House at a time. Longleat House, Jungle Cruise, Jungle Express and the Hedge Maze are not accessible to pushchairs. Pushchairs can be left at the relevant pushchair park for the duration of your visit to that attraction. Pushchairs are left at your discretion and Longleat accepts no liability for loss or damage to any pushchair left unattended. Manual wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available to hire. For more information, please visit our website. For more information on the venue's individual accessible facilities, please visit our website.
- We offer designated areas for disabled parking. Bays can be found in Lime Tree Car Park however most of the accessible bays are in Silver Birch Car Park.
- Accessible toilets are provided at the entrance to the Safari Drive-Through, in the Safari Drive-Through (close to the Watering Hole at African Village), off the Main Square near The Sweet Shop, close to the Jungle Cruise, in the Cellars Café and in the The Chameleon Tree Restaurant and Coffee House. Changing facilities with adjustable changing bench and hoist are available in the main accessible toilets off the Main Square near The Sweet Shop. Please note that some of our accessible toilets can only be accessed with a radar key. You are welcome to bring your own radar key or, alternatively, request one from Guest Services in Main Square. They can be purchased for £5 and kept, or returned for a refund at the end of the day.
- Service dogs are welcome everywhere at Longleat excluding the Safari Park, Jungle Kingdom, Jungle Cruise, Monkey Temple, Animal Adventure and the Bat Cave.
- We invite guests with disabilities to bring a free adult (or registered child) carer on their visit for support. Disabled guests should select a standard ticket for themselves, as well as the complimentary carer ticket, which can be selected at the same stage. Guests requiring 2 to 1 support can book multiple carer tickets for their visit in the same way. Evidence (such as a DLA/PIP Award Letter, a Blue Badge or a doctor's letter) will need to be shown at our arrival booths. If 2 to 1 care is required, we ask for this to be referenced within the evidence provided please.
- Hearing Loops are installed on all Longleat safari buses. The Safari Bus is available on a first-come-first-served basis and is bookable via the Guest Services kiosk in the Main Square. For more information, please visit our website.
- We have several members of staff who are trained in first aid although they are only equipped to treat minor injuries. Please ask a member of staff to direct you to the nearest first aider. There is a room with a bed available at the Adventure Castle.
