So, what are the best methods to catch Mackerel from a boat?

Mackerel travel in shoals so if you catch one Mackerel you can bet that the rest of his family is not far away as they swim and hunt bait fish in groups, the main thing when going out fishing for mackerel is locating them, that’s where the expert skipper of Kestrel Warrior 6 comes in.

What do Mackerel feed on?

Mackerel is a fast sleek predator, feeding on small bait fish. In turn as with everything else in the sea, bigger fish follow the shoal of Mackerel around, so it’s not unusual when fishing for Mackerel from a boat to catch larger fish such as Bass that feed on the Mackerel.

How do you locate a shoal of Mackerel?

When you are out on the boat fishing keep your eyes off for diving and feeding sea birds that will feed on bait fish forced to the surface by Mackerel. When you locate them like this you can catch hundreds of fish between 6 people in an hour.

What method do we use when boat fishing for Mackerel?

The favored method when novices fish for Mackerel is using a string of 4 -6 feathers or silver-type lures put over the side and fished between 8 and 20 feet. These mimic the bait fish that the Mackerel feed on. And when on top of a Mackerel shoal every hook will get attacked and produce strings of 4 -6 Mackerel weighing anything up to 2 and a half-pound each.

Ross boats mackerel fishing trip

You can catch mackerel from the harbour wall at Brighton Marina for far less money but having spent a lot of my childhood fishing from such venues, I knew that it attracts odd bods and usually smells of urine so it wasn't somewhere I was going to take my kids (7 and 5) Ross boats were clean and tidy, our skipper was helpful and polite and we shared the boat with another family. Everyone caught fish (there are never any guarantees in the business of charter fishing.) It might seem pricey but you have to acknowledge that the boats have to be fuelled, maintained, moored and insured. They can't go out in poor weather and if you are considering going the memories will last a lifetime for kids. A great trip, thanks.

Mostly food outlets it's a shame that many of the shops are only restaurants , went here today to visit the tea shop but it was closed .

Visited Brighton Marina last weekend. Not sure what I was expecting, but I was disappointed with the Marina area. Lots of new souless buildings. There are shops, cinema and restaurants. A large area is apartment complex which you can walk around on the Boardwalk. Lots of building work is going on at present. We arrived by taxi, as it was a wet weekend and the Marina is a good hike from Brighton Town Centre. Glad I went but will not be returning in a hurry.

Very exciting area. Lots to see, e.g. the boats, the marina, the shops, eg outlets. ASDA open 24 hours. Nice restaurants. A good atmosphere in the area. Easy to come to by car or public transport.

I agree with previous reviews. Most of the restaurants are American chain type (everything has cheese and bacon on it). It looks like a concrete jungle and the shops are filled with cheap touristy garbage. Even the popcorn at the cinema had a bad taste. If you are looking for a nice place to go, don't go here.

Worth a visit to the Marina a good selection of restaurants and few shops to look around plus a lot of nice boats to look at

SEA FISHING

We offer 2 hour ‘taster’ trips (incl. Mackerel) or 4 & 8 hour trips. All are welcome, from the less experienced to the species hunter, Children and Ladies most welcome. We have over 50 years sea fishing experience, and are very happy to offer as much help as you feel you need to get the best from your time afloat, and to maximise your catch. We do not do long distance wrecking trips, but do however, fish the closer wrecks for Eels, Cod, Pollock etc. but we really specialise in Plaice, Bream, Tope, Smooth-hound, Bull Huss, Bass, Skate, winter Cod etc.- Should you have any particular species in mind, please call for impartial and honest advice. Catering for the individual angler to small groups or whole boat charters the boat is licenced for 12 passengers. We go to sea with a minimum of just 3 anglers. Rod and tackle hire is available. Free Tea and Coffee.

Delta Sunrise is an Offshore 105, powered by a Catapillar 400hp engine, with Disabled access, she is fully Licenced for the carrying of 12 passengers by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). She also holds a Full MCA Commercial Workboat license.

Delta Charters takes your safety very seriously and the boat carries in excess of the standard Saftey Equipment as required by Maritime Law; including Liferaft & full safety equipment!

Onboard equipment includes 3 x DSC/VHF Marine Radios, 3 x colour fishfinders, 3 x GPS navigator/plotters, and Radar as standard.

With seating for all onboard, and a proper loo, Delta Sunrise is the perfect fishing vessel.

Brighton Marina Sea Fishing Charters & Boat Trips – Deep Sea Wreck Fishing & Ground Fishing from Brighton Marina , & Sovereign Harbour Eastbourne , both Premier Marinas , giving access to the deep water offshore World War Channel Shipwrecks for fine catches of Cod, Pollack, Ling, Bream, Bass, Conger Eels, Turbot, Brill, Plaice & much more. These days can be full on and hard work but the results can be very rewarding .

Corporate Events   : For your corporate day or club event think of something different & out of the ordinary. Come and join us for an enjoyable day of sea fishing, whether its Wreck Fishing or Reef / Ground Fishing were sure you’ll have a day to remember.

For larger groups additional boats can be arranged so that it is possible to split the parties into teams and make a competition of the day. This is subject to adequate notice being given. You could also start your day with a Full English at the Yacht Club, This is also subject to adequate notice being given.

Channel Diver – This 36ft catamaran with a beam 16ft has a large open deck space which offers excellent fishing space and all round fishing area of 70ft. There is also a dry seating area inside the wheelhouse for 10 people to sit in comfort, there is a fridge & kettle and Tea & Coffee is available

My little girl (7yo) wants to go out on a boat to fish for mackerel, are the short trips that go from brighton marina any good? We done a few days out on the marina but patience wains after a few hours!  

Roos mackerel boats are £22 fishing or £10 as a passenger All their boats carry fish finders If the mackerel are about they find them The marina had been loaded with mackerel for more than 2 weeks , feel free to check out the shop blog linked in my sig below  

After a long chat, one of my customers spent her birthday with her mother and daughter fishing on one of those trips at Brighton Marina and absolutely loved it. Smiles all round and fresh mackerel for tea, she said it was worth every penny. Feel free to come along with your child to the free angling sessions on the North Bank in Shoreham Harbour Basin, the next two dates are September 28th and October 5th, both days are Sundays. The day includes a free trip out on the Shoreham Based Charter Boat 'She Likes It 2' mackerel fishing and LRF for a variety of species inside the harbour, everything is free. By the way this same lady sponsored the free fishing sessions on the North Bank by paying for two new junior lifejackets.

• A deposit of £100 is required for boat bookings. The balance is payable in cash on the day. • For individuals £50 deposit is payable at the time of booking. • In the event of bad weather we offer another date or refund. • Please ring between 5pm and 6pm the evening before to check the weather is ok to go. • Bait or Lures will need to be purchased separately and we can organise this on your behalf. • The tackle shop adjacent to the boat opens at 0700 for you bait and tackle requirements. • Boarding is 0715 for departure at 0730 (unless otherwise agreed or stated) for standard 8 hour fishing trips. • FUEL SURCHARGE – due to rising diesel costs a fuel surcharge may apply to trips more than 20 miles offshore.
