Wine-pairing dinner at chateau chantal, private dinner and wine pairing at chateau chantal winery.

Located on a 65-acre estate on Michigan's Old Mission Peninsula in Grand Traverse Bay – one of the most scenic areas of the Great Lakes – Chateau Chantal is a French-style winery, Bed & Breakfast and vineyard estate opened in 1993 by the Begin family… Robert, Nadine and daughter Marie-Chantal. A unique destination combining vineyards, winery and B&B complete with winding roads, fresh air, friendly hospitality and kind company, Chateau Chantal produces Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and other varietals. The Chateau is the genteel setting for a winery tour and wine-pairing dinner for Tauck guests only.

The Ford Rouge Factory Tour

Take the ford rouge factory tour... and ride a vintage model t.

Opened by the Ford Motor Company a century ago, the Rouge Plant in Dearborn was the realization of Henry Ford's vision of an ideal automotive complex where every aspect of production could be processed, manufactured and assembled in one place. Its first products in 1918 were anti-submarine boats for World War I; by the time it began producing Model A's in the late 1920s, it was the largest integrated factory in the world. Everything from tractors to jeeps, tank engines, amphibious vehicles, and iconic cars like the Thunderbird and Mustang rolled off the Rouge assembly lines until 2004, when the complex was transformed into the model of 21st-century sustainable design you'll visit today – building F-150 trucks and celebrating Ford's past and future.

Grand Hotel – With Water View Room Upgrade

Nights 3 and 4

Back somewhere in time at the Grand Hotel...

You may recognize the great wrap-around porch and lobby of the Grand Hotel from the movie, "Somewhere in Time," when a dashing Christopher Reeve travels back in time to declare his love for the lady in a photograph, played by Jane Seymour. The 1980s film may have wrapped long ago, but the romance remains in the Mackinac Island landmark. You'll go back in time too during your two-night stay here, learning more about its history (and its famous porch, the longest in the world) from an expert who knows it well... you may also upgrade to a water view room for your stay at the Grand Hotel (ask for details at booking).

When I told my friends I was going to Michigan, they said 'Why?' Well now I can tell them exactly how amazing Michigan is!

About Booking This Tour

Travel Documents

Michigan's Lakes & Mackinac Island begins and ends in the U.S.

Real ID Act - Effective May 7, 2025

Beginning in May 2025, some state IDs will no longer permit you to board a domestic flight. Currently, some states are compliant, some have received extensions, and some are not compliant.  Click here  to see the status of your state. If your state license is not compliant, you can use a passport in lieu of a valid state ID.

Please Note:  The federal government has extended the deadline to May 7, 2025 for domestic airline passengers to secure a Real ID driver's license for use as identification at the airport. Travelers without a verified license or ID card will also have the option of showing other identity documents, such as a passport or military ID to board a plane.

If you are traveling by air to join and/or depart from this tour within the U.S., please read the section entitled Airline Security Measures under Additional Information to determine what travel documentation is required.

If you are frequent traveler to the U.S. from Canada, you may benefit from the NEXUS program, which is a joint initiative between the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency and the Canada Border Services Agency that allows pre-screened and approved travelers faster processing at designated highway lanes in high-volume border crossing locations, at a NEXUS kiosk at several airports, and at certain marine reporting locations in the Great Lakes and Seattle regions.

For further information, you may log on to the Nexus Internet website by clicking here .

If you are a citizen of another country traveling internationally,   you should contact an embassy or consulate of the U.S. to determine what travel documentation is necessary. You may also log on to the U.S. State Department's Internet site by clicking  here.

We strongly recommend that your passport be valid for six months beyond the completion of your tour. We also recommend that you make at least two photocopies of all the travel documents that you bring with you. Include copies of the photo page of your passport that contains the date of issuance, the date of expiration and your citizenship. Secure one set of copies in the safe in your room while traveling and leave one set behind with someone at home who will assist you in the event your documents or cards are misplaced, lost or stolen.

To facilitate Travel Requirements, destinations are increasingly utilizing online forms that require digital proof that you've successfully completed your submission (via an email, QR code, etc.) To ensure smooth travels and peace of mind, we strongly recommend all guests carry a personal smart phone and sign up for international data plans before traveling overseas.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN AS A GUARDIAN: If you are traveling as the guardian of a child/children, we strongly suggest that you carry a letter from both parents of the child authorizing emergency treatment in the event of illness or accident. For travel abroad, many foreign countries have specific entry requirements for children under 21 who are traveling internationally without BOTH parents. (These requirements are in response to the increased incidence of children being abducted and taken abroad.) PLEASE NOTE THAT TAUCK IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for the disruption of travel caused by improper documentation for children traveling without both parents.

Travel Protection Plan

Effective for plans purchased as of July 1, 2021:

Cancellation Waiver – Provided by Tauck:

Under Tauck's Cancellation Fee Waiver you can cancel your tour for ANY REASON up to the day before departure and receive a money-back refund (except in Extreme Circumstances*) on the land tour cost, based on your original method of payment.

*Extreme Circumstances:  In the event of an act of God, war (whether declared or undeclared), terrorism, accident, natural disaster, outbreak of disease, or other event or circumstance beyond our control that contributes to or results in cancellation rates above our historical cancellation rates in the absence of such event or occurrence, Tauck reserves the right to issue a credit to you in lieu of a money-back refund, applicable to a future Tauck journey.

Travel Insurance Benefits – Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company.

  • Trip Cancellation –  If you must cancel your tour due to a covered reason, the plan provides coverage for the amount you paid for your travel arrangements. Since the non-insurance cancellation waiver takes care of the land package cancellation fees already, this benefit reimburses the airfare cancellation charges up to the value of your original airfare purchase.
  • Trip Interruption –  If you have to interrupt your tour for covered reasons, the plan provides reimbursement for up to $5,000 to catch up to your tour or return home.
  • Travel Delay –  Provides reimbursement for missed, prepaid travel arrangements if you are delayed by a common carrier, natural disaster, unannounced strike, or other reasons as cited in the plan.
  • Medical Expense –  Reimburses covered medical expenses incurred in the event you become injured or sick during your trip.
  • Baggage / Personal Effects Protection –  Provides reimbursement in the event your luggage or personal effects are, lost, stolen, damaged or delayed during your trip.

Worldwide Emergency Assistance Services –  Provided by Carefree Travel Assistance; 24-hour emergency telephone assistance hotline for medical and travel related problems.

The cost of Tauck's Guest Protection is: $349  per person

This protection provides insurance coverage that applies only during the covered trip. You may have coverage from other sources that provides you with similar benefits but may be subject to different restrictions depending upon your other coverages. You may wish to compare the terms of this policy with your existing life, health, home and automobile policies. If you have any questions about your current coverage, call your insurer, insurance agent or broker.

This optional Guest Protection must be requested at time of booking and fee must be included with initial payment. Fees are based on costs as of July 1, 2021, and are subject to change. Details will be provided with written confirmation of your tour reservation. Guest Protection does not protect travel agent commissions. Reimbursements will be made according to original method of payment. The amount of any refund shall be reduced by any recoveries obtained by you from any third parties.

The Guest Protection plan waives cancellation fees outlined below, provided we are notified of cancellation before your tour departs. Tour cancellation fees are waived regardless of reason, without written notice, and Tauck will refund land tour cost.

To obtain your state-specific Certificate of Insurance that contains the complete terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the certificate, visit  affinitytravelcert.com/docs/TACGPPDOM .

If You Have To Cancel

If you cancel within 10 days of initial deposit Within the first 10 days after you place your initial deposit, you may cancel your reservation for any reason with no cancellation fees. If you cancel more than 10 days after initial deposit Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed bookings. These fees vary from tour to tour. Therefore, the following fees apply.

Cancellation Fees with Tauck's Guest Protection Plan:

Loss of Guest Protection fee, per person

Cancellation Fees without Tauck's Guest Protection Plan :

60 days or more before departure = $350 per person

59-8 days before departure = $600 per person

7-1 days before departure = $900 per person

Time of cancellation  will be when notice is received in our Wilton Woods, CT office.

In the event of an unforeseen circumstance beyond our control,  Tauck reserves the right to amend the cancellation terms outlined herein.

Note:  All Guests, regardless of residency, who book a Tauck journey have the option of purchasing the Cancellation Fee Waiver provided by Tauck in the event they need to cancel their trip after making their reservations. Tauck's Guest Protection, which includes both the Cancellation Fee Waiver and the Travel Insurance Benefits and Assistance Services described above, is not available to residents of Puerto Rico.

Travel Requirements For This Tour

Air Information and Luggage Restrictions

AIRFARE: Airfare to and from this destination is not included in the journey cost. If purchasing your air elsewhere, it is very important to provide us with your confirmed arriving and departing flight information no later than 3 weeks before your arrival date. Flight information can be submitted to Tauck (or verified, if you've already provided it) in the My Account section of Tauck.com.

TAUCK AIRPORT TRANSFERS are included at the start and end of the journey between the airport and the Tauck hotel. Airport transfers are available for any pre tour or post tour hotel stays immediately consecutive to the tour, providing flight information is received in the Tauck office no later than three weeks in advance. Details on locating your transfer upon arrival to the tour start city will be included in your final documents.

AIRLINES and CHECKED LUGGAGE: Due to space limitations during your Tauck journey, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one average-size suitcase per person. Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and are free to revise luggage policies without notice. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies. PLEASE NOTE that if you are booked on a tour that includes on-tour flights, the checked luggage weight restrictions for these flights may be lower than the weight restrictions for your international flights.

Checked Luggage – General

Due to space restrictions, we ask that you please limit your checked luggage to one suitcase per person weighing no more than 50 pounds (23 kg) and with overall dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 62 inches (158 cm).

Besides complying with the Tauck restriction noted above, you should also be sure to research and comply with all airline baggage restrictions relating to your flights to and from your Tauck journey. Airlines have become much more strict in enforcing size and weight limits in recent years, and luggage exceeding airline standards for size or weight may result in expensive overage fees or other consequences.

Airlines are free to revise luggage policies without notice, and certain airlines have different baggage allowances for different classes of service. Researching and complying with airline luggage restrictions is the responsibility of the guest, and Tauck cannot be held responsible for any costs or disruptions to travel caused by the failure to research and comply with airline policies.

Tauck luggage tags will be provided by your Tauck Director on Day 1 of your itinerary. Please do not attach a Tauck luggage tag to any carry-on items, as the Tauck tags designate luggage that is to be handled and transferred by ground operators and hotel staff during your journey.

Carry-on Luggage - General

Although oversize bags and wheeled, carry-on luggage are popular for airline travel, they are often not convenient or appropriate for motor coach travel or for many on-tour flights. Most modern sightseeing motor coaches offer limited space for numerous or larger items. Space under seats or in the overhead rack is typically small, and designed to accommodate items like coats, hats, purses, and small camera bags, etc.

For your day-to-day travel while on tour, we recommend that you limit your hand luggage to a small, soft-sided carry-on piece, and that you bring only those items you need handy during the day such as make-up, medications, cameras, film, etc. Items too large to fit under the motor coach seat or on the overhead rack must be stored in the luggage bays beneath the motor coach, and may be inaccessible during daytime travel.

Health, Safety and Mobility

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

If you have a medical condition that might limit your participation in activities, please consult your physician for pre-departure health advice and notify us as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. We will advise your Tauck Director accordingly.

Please check with your health insurance provider to determine whether you are covered while traveling. If you will not be covered under your current policy, we strongly suggest that you arrange for adequate coverage while on tour.

VACCINATIONS

If you are a resident of another country traveling to or within the U.S., no vaccinations are currently required for travel to the U.S. For complete vaccination and inoculation information, contact your physician, the public health service in your area, or the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. The Travelers' Health Section of the CDC operates a 24-hour "Travelers' Health Hotline" at 800-232-4636 (toll-free in the U.S.). You may also log on to the CDC website by clicking here .

There is a moderate amount of walking on this Michigan tour. To enjoy this tour, you should be in good health and able to walk reasonable distances, often over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Some of the most memorable sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. The amount of walking you do, however, is at your discretion.

Some of the sightseeing can only be accomplished on foot. It is important that you have sturdy, comfortable and worn-in walking shoes. On certain days this itinerary requires more mobility; you will need to get on and off of a ferry and horse-drawn carriage, which will require being able to maneuver steps and having careful balance.

All of the hotels on this itinerary have elevators.

PLEASE NOTE:  We regret that we're unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs.  The responsibility of the Tauck Director who accompanies your trip is to ensure that the larger group enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing individual assistance to any one guest.  Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it.

SPECIAL DIETARY REQUESTS

The restaurants, hotels, caterers and numerous other partners we work with all do their best to accommodate special dietary requests from Tauck guests. However, given the diverse nature of those food providers (from small wineries to grand hotels to world-famous restaurants in more than 70 countries worldwide), some of our partners are better able than others to accommodate such requests. We therefore cannot guarantee that all dietary requests can be accommodated at every meal. Also, please note that where dietary requests can be accommodated, choices will frequently be limited.

Reading List

We have compiled a reading list of recommended books to give you more information about the destinations you will be traveling to on your upcoming journey! You can view the reading list  here .

Temperatures in this region typically range in the 70s to 80s degree Fahrenheit during the summer and can range from the 40s to 70s degree Fahrenheit during the spring and fall; be prepared for occasional extremes. We suggest that prior to departure you check a newspaper or the weather forecast on the Internet for up-to-date information.

To read about current weather conditions, we suggest you log on to the Internet website, noaa.gov , by clicking here .

What To Pack

Bringing the right clothing for your trip is important – we've partnered with Necessary Gear who provide an "easy-to-use, one-stop shop" for your Tauck travel needs, specifically selected for this trip. Click here to visit their site .

When packing for travel to Michigan, we suggest you select a wardrobe that is adaptable and allows for layering. Comfortable, casual clothing is recommended for sightseeing during the day. At the Grand Hotel, evenings are a special occasion. After 6:00 PM, gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and tie and ladies are required to wear dresses or elegant pantsuits. The Grand Hotel does loan jackets and ties to guests.

Valet laundry service is available at each hotel as well as hair dryers in the room. Most of the hotels have outdoor pools that are available for guests' use. All of the hotels have fitness centers that are available to the guests on a complimentary basis.

We recommend that you pack an adequate supply of your prescription medication in its original container to last through your entire journey, together with a copy of your doctor's prescription or a letter from your health-care provider on office stationery explaining that the medication has been prescribed for you, a list of the generic names of your medication, your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag to avoid any inconvenience in the event that your flight or luggage is delayed.

Following is a list of recommended items to pack for your Michigan tour:

  • Casual daytime wear – shorts, slacks, long and short-sleeved shirts
  • Jacket and tie for men and slacks/dress for women for evening wear
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, hat
  • A light sweater or jacket for higher elevations or a breezy night
  • Binoculars (7x50 preferably)
  • Insect repellent
  • Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards and chargers
  • Lightweight, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes that have already been broken-in
  • Travel alarm clock/cell phone with alarm function (many hotels do not have clocks in the rooms)
  • Reusable zipper lock bags or other waterproof bags
  • Rain poncho and collapsible umbrella
  • Daypack for camera equipment
  • Sundries and toiletries that may be difficult to find en route
  • Copies of your travel documents that should be secured in the safe in your hotel room while traveling

Magical Place Where Time   Stands Still!

Plus Dine at the Grand Hotel!

*A Very Special Opportunity: Staying Right on the Island Two Nights*

DAYS ONE AND TWO:   We’ll travel northwest and enjoy time to get-acquainted with our new TLC friends, arriving in Mackinaw City late afternoon.  The first evening, enjoy the little downtown area where you can get dinner and stroll the streets of this popular village.  Later, take in the lovely view from your waterfront hotel.

The next morning, we’ll cross the 5-mile “Mighty Mac” Bridge to St. Ignace and board a high-speed ferry over to beautiful Mackinac Island where horse-drawn carriages await to take us on a delightful, narrated tour of the island, one of our favorite highlights!  We’ll end at Ft. Mackinac with time to explore this very fascinating piece of history.

The rest of your day is wonderfully free to have fun any way you wish amidst the many scenic and interesting things to do on Mackinac Island.  The choices are especially inviting this time of year!  Rent a bike and ride around the Island, or perhaps hire your own horse-drawn carriage.  Purchase the Island’s world-famous fudge at one of the many colorful shops along Main Street.  For history buffs, there are often guided walking tours, or perhaps tea at the Ft. Mackinac Tea Room (Yes!), or maybe a tour of Astor Fur House. For water-lovers, there are boat excursions; for nature-lovers, there’s the Butterfly Conservatory; for those who want to relax, there are miles of picturesque lakeshore to sit along & daydream!    So many possibilities on Mackinac Island -and all are stunningly beautiful!

DAY THREE:  You will have free time again in the morning to explore as you wish – then we’re picked up by the Island “taxis” for another special highlight of your trip… the “Grand Luncheon” at the majestic 114-year-old Grand Hotel, also called “The Crown Jewel of Mackinac Island” – wonderful in every way!  When you’re done eating, you can explore the hotel loaded with little shops down below, and a magnificent view from the cupola up top!  Oh, and be sure to get your picture taken sitting on one of the white rockers on the ‘world’s longest porch’!  The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the charming shopping areas, gorgeous landscaping, and the magical Island itself!

DAY FOUR:    We’ll ferry back to the mainland and journey over to the quaint Bavarian village of Frankenmuth.  Enjoy a little time in this scenic area with delightful shops and a real covered bridge!

All-in-all, this tour is a wonderful opportunity to leave the rest of the world far behind and revel in the richness and charm of a bygone era.  A truly gorgeous trip with rave reviews every time we visit!!

Includes: Deluxe motorcoach travel, 3 nights’ lodging, 3 breakfasts, lunch at the Grand Hotel, a dinner on the Island, ferry service, admissions as described, luggage handling and taxes.

$1,215 per/person, double occupancy

$985 per/person triple or quad occupancy

Please note: The following are TLC's general polices and procedures that cover all of our tours, so some of these may or may not be applicable to this particular tour.

Age Requirements:

All ages are welcome to join a TLC Tour beginning with age 5 years old and up.   Because our goal is to provide a relaxing, enjoyable ride for all when on our coach, we must ask that adults plan appropriate, quiet entertainment for their younger ones in order to not disturb the others aboard.  There may be a reduction in cost for the younger children, but no guarantees, especially on Day Trips.

On all overnight tours, we use a daily seat rotation. The first day of a trip, you choose your seat when you board, and rotate from there. We feel this is fair to all. If the coach is not full, a less formal rotation may be used at the Escort’s discretion. Persons traveling single or with uneven amounts in their group may need to sit with other like-travelers. We cannot guarantee that small groups will be seated together. We welcome single travelers, but the single rate does not include two seats on the coach. * We cannot accept doctor’s notes regarding requests to sit in the front seat/s. Please consider boarding at the first pickup location if your seat location is of concern. It is also recommended to see your doctor for motion sickness medication, if this should apply.

Smoking/Drinking:

We make regular stops for restrooms and for the convenience of smokers; however, we have a NO SMOKING (or vaping) policy aboard all coaches. If someone violates the non-smoking policies of places we are staying or visiting while on tour, it is the sole responsibility of that person should there be any penalties and/or fines for not adhering to their rules and regulations. Consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted at any time on the coach.

Transportation:

All of our tours use beautiful modern, deluxe wide-body motorcoaches from Campbell Bus Lines . Campbell has received the highest possible rating with the Dept. of Transportation. The motorcoaches are equipped with air-conditioning, reclining seats, public address system, DVD player, outlets for each passenger, and emergency restrooms. Our intent is for all overnight tours to be professionally escorted. Upon occasion, in order to avoid canceling a trip with a low passenger count, our Driver may serve both positions of Driver and Escort, and all are professionally trained to do so. ~ Also, on air trips with low passenger counts, we will not be able to provide an Escort from our company. However, once you arrive at your destination, a guide from our connecting company will be with you throughout the entire tour.

Lodging and Meals:

Your lodging is included on all overnight tours. All hotels are AAA rated. We never use second rate hotels, restaurants, or activities on any tour, to the best of our ability to make that determination. If you need two beds in your room, please state this when making your reservation. Generally, some meals are included on overnight trips (see individual tour inclusions); however, we cannot guarantee any special dietary requirements.

Border Crossings:

As of June 2009, a Passport or Passport Card is required for border crossings. Either of these travel documents may be obtained through your local courthouse. The Passport Card is limited but is sufficient for Canadian border crossings and is good for 10 years – it is also very easy to apply for. Your Driver and/or Escort will be asking to see one of these documents before boarding the coach for trips with this requirement. We cannot be responsible if you are unable to travel due to failure on your part to obtain the proper documentation. Please begin the process early enough to ensure that you will have it in time for your tour’s departure. Click here for for more information .

One suitcase per person is included in the price of your tour. You are also permitted a carry-on, which is your responsibility. Additional luggage may be transported at the cost of $10.00 per bag, per day. It is wise to travel light. Luggage tags are provided and required for hotel identification and are sent with the final letter and phone numbers of your hotels.

Medical Devices:

Medical devices must be handled by you, the passenger.  They are either to be stored under your seat (not protruding out into the person’s space behind or in front of you), or if too large for that accommodation, they must be placed under the coach by you, and taken off at each place it’s needed by you.  It is not safe for a medical device to ride in an overhead compartment for multiple reasons, nor are our Drivers or hotel personnel allowed to handle it for safety and liability reasons.  If it needs to ride under the coach, please have it in a quality container (as small as possible) to assure it rides safely.

Taxes and Gratuities:

All taxes and gratuities for included meals and activities are included, unless otherwise mentioned by the Escort. Driver and Escort gratuities are not included in the price of your tour. The suggested rate for a “job well done” is a minimum of $4.00-$4.50 per person/ per day for the Tour Escort, and a minimum of $4.00-$4.50per person/per day for the Driver. We request that you express this on an individual basis and let the quality of service received be your guide.

All prices listed are per/person rates. On one day tours, full payment must be made with the reservation. For overnight tours, see “How To Make A Reservation”. Balance of an overnight tour is due 45 days prior to departure (unless otherwise stated/notified). Confirmation will be sent after we receive your deposit. Please call as soon as possible if you should decide not to go.

FYI :  About a week before your overnight trip departs, you will receive from our office a letter packet with updated itinerary, passenger list, departure and return times, luggage tags, hotel phone numbers, and other pertinent information.

1 – Our intent is to have all our tours accompanied by one of our professional Escorts –  However, occasionally a low passenger count may make it necessary to send that tour out as “Driver Only” in an effort to ensure that the trip you wanted to go on does not have to be cancelled.  Please be assured our Tour Drivers are first-class professionals, capable of handling any trip we offer from beginning to end.  You will be in great hands and have a wonderful time!

2- Please Note – We’re truly sorry if we’ve canceled a trip that you wanted to go on.  Sometimes excellent trips with super itineraries are canceled when people wait ‘til the last minute to put in their reservation.  OUR monies are usually due at least 45 days ahead on regular trips, and sometimes 90 on certain ones.  If we don’t have enough signed up at that time, we have no choice but to cancel it.  Then when you call later, it’s already too late… and disappointing for us all!  Please help us and CALL EARLY – Thank you so much.

3- The information about trips on this website (funwithtlc.com) is complete.  It contains the same information that a paper flyer has.  However, if you prefer a paper flyer you can call for Fully Detailed Flyers for Most Trips of 3 Days or More. We’ll gladly send extras for you to pass along to your friends!  We will also happily send a Tour Book to anyone you feel would enjoy receiving one.

Up to 45 days prior to departure date, a full refund will be made. *Air and cruise tours, and some longer tours, may be different—be sure to ask for details when making your reservation. Tours including tickets also generally have earlier non-refundable dates. There are no refunds for cancellations made within 45 days prior to your departure date. However, we will do our best to recover as much as we can, but cannot guarantee anything including prepaid reservations and other costs that are non-refundable to us. There will be a $25.00 per/person charge for this service. There will be no refund, for any reason, for a “no-show” on the day of the tour.

Please Note: Refunds will be made by the same method you paid us, e.g., if you paid by credit card, the refund will be put back on that credit card. No exceptions.

TLC Tours offers a “Refund Protection Plan” for overnight tours that is available at our office at a minimal cost. It needs to be purchased when you book your trip. This insures you a full refund in case of:

  • A.) a death in your immediate family (requires a copy of death notice)
  • B.) personal illness (requires a doctor’s written note confirming you were too ill to travel)
  • C.) Exceptions would be made if an immediate family member’s serious illness necessitates you staying home but would still need confirmed by a doctor’s note. *Immediate family, in these situations, includes spouse, parents or children only.

Call our office for full details about TLC’s RPP. We encourage you to take advantage of the protection plan, or secure insurance on your own if you prefer “cancel for any reason” coverage. Our Refund Protection Plan is not available for Day Trips, nor are there any refunds for Day Trips, with a few exceptions.

Cancellations:

TLC Tours reserves the right to cancel any tour that has not reached a minimum number of reservations. We always avoid changes and cancellations, if at all possible, as we realize the inconvenience to you, our valued customer. We reserve the right to cancel or refuse service to anyone, in our sole discretion. Any person may be dismissed from a tour at any time by the Tour Escort or Driver should their conduct be problematic in any way. No refund will be made, nor will any further responsibility be assumed by TLC Tours or anyone in their employment.

Responsibility:

TLC Tours, LLC is insured. Campbell Bus Lines is registered and insured with the ICC. TLC Tours acts only as an agent. We are not responsible to any person for any loss of time or money due to a change or delay beyond our control. Nor are we responsible for non-performance by those we have contracted with. We reserve the right to change tour prices, inclusions, and itinerary, if so, dictated by circumstances beyond our control. We are not responsible for pricing, typographical, or other errors. Any claims against TLC Tours must be made, in writing within 30 days of the trip.

HOW TLC IS ADDRESSING COVID/VARIANTS FOR 2024

We are so thankful that much of our country has ‘opened up’ and we are back to being able to travel freely, for those who desire to get out & about again.  While rejoicing over such good news, there are still a few things we must remain aware of that are listed below.  We believe these things are a very small price to pay to be “On the Road Again’! ~ Thank you for your gracious understanding and kind cooperation as we wisely embark on wonderful memory-making journeys together this year!

A- There are a few parts of the country that are still enforcing a mask mandate in their particular area. Please tuck a mask in your pocket just in case we should arrive somewhere and find out unexpectedly that we are required to wear one for entrance.  We continue to pledge to be good neighbors and help these establishments stay open by cooperating with whatever they are required to ask of us, and to do it with a good, kind spirit.  If you’re not in agreement with this, please refrain from traveling with us at this time.

B- At this writing, all the places we plan to visit are open for business. However, as mentioned above, that can change by the time we arrive.  Should there be some place that is not able to take us, we will do our very best to substitute an activity or attraction of an equal quality.  We just have to “go with the flow” again this year somewhat – but trust me, every single place we plan to visit WANTS to be open for us and will be doing everything they can to do so.

C- We ask that you take your own temperature before leaving home on the morning of Day One, and if you show any fever at all, please stay home. If you have additional/other symptoms that suggest Covid-19 or a variant, we ask that you please stay home.  If you have been around someone with Covid-19/variant, or highly suspected Covid-19/variant, we ask that you please follow the CDC guidelines according to their timeline, and possibly stay home.  Any of these methods are somewhat dependent on the “honor system”.  We trust that our upstanding TLC customers will “do the right thing” and not put anyone else at risk for contracting Covid or a variant on a TLC tour.

D- Should someone come down with Covid during or after their tour, we assume no responsibility or liability. We cannot control every minute of everyone’s day, nor can we control how people handle themselves when off the coach. We have done our very best to secure accommodations and venues that state the highest sanitation protocols to the best of their ability. If on tour you should come down with Covid-19 or a variant, or strongly suspect it, you would be responsible to quarantine yourself and arrange for transportation home when appropriate. — By traveling with us, you are agreeing that TLC Tours, LLC will not be held responsible for contracting Covid-19 or a variant, nor liable for any expenses involved in any way.

E- If you do need to cancel at the last-minute because of having covid/variant, being exposed to covid/variant, or suspecting a possible case of covid/variant, our normal cancellation policies apply, just as they would to any other last-minute illness that prevents you from going on a tour. See General Information/Refunds in this book.  Without insurance, there is no refund except what we might be able to get back from individual vendors on your behalf.  We highly suggest taking out either our in-house Refund Protection Policy, or another more comprehensive insurance plan of your own choosing.

Overall, please lovingly respect the concerns of others if they differ from yours.

Some may have health issues that cause them to be more cautions than you may feel is necessary for yourself.

– Here’s the best plan: “Do Unto Others as You Would Have Others Do Unto You!” –

ON THE COACH

( 1) Every Campbell coach is completely disinfected before they depart for a trip. You can be assured that the bus that arrives to pick you up has been thoroughly cleaned with an environmentally friendly solution that is EPA-approved, and not diluted or mixed at our facilities.  The solution is rated on the EPA K-List that supersedes the current EPA suggestion for elimination of Corona Virus and has no harmful properties.  It has received the Green Seal certification.  The solution is applied with electrostatic sprayers to increase coverage to eliminate all pathogens on hard surfaces.

(2) We have upgraded all air filters and increased the frequency that we change the air filters on the coach to reduce contamination.  Our motor coaches refresh the air on the coach every five minutes, and combined with the upgraded filters, will reduce stale used air in the coach.

( 3) We have UV lights in our HVAC system to eliminate any airborne pathogens.

( 4) Disinfecting wipes available for the Driver & Escort, and hand sanitizer on board for your use.

( 5)  Should the situation regarding pandemic conditions rise during the year, we are prepared to increase the level of our procedures accordingly.

For day trips, we do not have any insurance or Refund Protection Plan available.  Payment must be made in full when booking a day trip, and if you cancel your reservation up to 45 days prior to the trip’s date, you will receive a full refund.  * Occasionally a day trip may have a different cancellation date other than 45 days out – it is good to inquire when making your reservation .  — If TLC should need to cancel the entire day trip, you will receive a refund.

For TLC OVERNIGHT MOTORCOACH TOURS:

For most overnight tours, a full refund will be made up to 45 days prior to departure date. However, some of our tours, especially the longer ones, may have a 60-day cancellation date.  The specific date will be listed on your confirmation which you will receive in the mail once you make your reservation. Tours including tickets may have earlier non-refundable dates – please inquire when making a reservation for a tour that includes tickets. There are no refunds for cancellations made within the 45 (or 60) days prior to your departure date. However, we will do our best to recover as much as we can, but cannot guarantee anything including prepaid reservations and other costs that are non-refundable to us. There will be a $25.00 per/person charge for this service. There will be no refund, for any reason, for a “no-show” on the day of the tour.

** Please Note: Refunds will be made by the same method you paid us; e.g., if you paid by credit card, the refund will be put back on that credit card. No exceptions.

TLC’s REFUND PROTECTION PLAN for Overnight Motorcoach Tours :

TLC has an in-house “Refund Protection Plan” which we offer for overnight motorcoach tours through our office at a minimal cost .   It needs to be purchased when you book your trip . This insures you a full refund in case of:

  • ) A death in your immediate family (requires a copy of death notice)
  • ) Personal illness (requires a doctor’s written note confirming you were too ill to travel)
  • ) Exceptions would be made if an immediate family member’s serious illness necessitates you staying home, but would still need confirmed by a doctor’s note.  *Immediate family, in these situations, includes spouse, parents or children only.

The RPP covers you up to the morning of departure; however, you must call your Escort (number will be provided) that morning before your pick-up time in order for the RPP to be valid.  She will need to call all the places the tour is going to change the passenger counts.  Failure to call the Escort that morning cancels your RPP coverage.

Feel free to call our office for full details about TLC’s RPP. We encourage you to take advantage of the protection plan, or secure more comprehensive insurance on your own, if desired.

TLC “FLY TRIPS”:

For any of our tours that involve flying, the connecting companies we use for our air tours offer their own insurance plans and instructions.  You will find that information listed on each tour’s page and/or flyer near the respective pricing and other pertinent details.  It is up to you, of course, whether or not you choose to take insurance out, but it is highly recommended.

PLEASE NOTE: Sometimes excellent trips with super itineraries are canceled when people wait ’til the last minute to put in their reservation. OUR monies are usually due at least 90 days ahead on “fly trips” and at least 45 days ahead on regular trips. If we don’t have enough signed up at that time, we have no choice but to cancel it. Then when you call later, it’s already too late… and disappointing for us all! Please help us and CALL EARLY – Thank you so much.

Tour Activity Level

The activity level for this tour:

You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.

You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.

You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.

You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

Weekend brunch, Cupola Bar updates: What’s new at Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel for 2024

MACKINAC ISLAND, MI - Every season brings something fresh to Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel, and this year it’s all about new experiences for guests. As the big team behind the island’s grande dame resort prepares to open for its 138th season, they are unveiling new dining experiences, a refreshed look for its destination Cupola Bar and new horse-themed tours.

Grand Hotel is also updating fans on the mid-point in their meticulous, five-year restoration project on the front of the building. It’s gotten a lot of attention from history buffs, as has the resort’s winter project of adding a new retaining wall and improving the main road in front of the hotel.

And they’re talking about some recent environmentally-friendly changes that make the big hotel more sustainable and conscious of its location in the Great Lakes.

Here are highlights of the new offerings for Grand Hotel’s 2024 “Season of Connection.”

Jockey Club at Grand Hotel

Weekend Brunch at The Jockey Club

This favorite dining spot just across the street from the main resort is known for its cozy leather booths inside and the great people-watching and island view from its outdoor patio, which overlooks the first hole on The Jewel golf course. This season, there will be a whole new way to relax: Weekend Brunch will be offered here on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. See the menu here.

“The Jockey Club is proud to introduce a new menu showcasing mouth-watering, wood-grilled dishes crafted with ingredients sourced from local farms,” Grand Hotel staff said. “And for the first time, we are introducing a weekend brunch menu featuring delicious favorites such as lemon souffle pancakes and lobster eggs benedict.”

Sadie's Ice Cream Parlor

Three New Flavors at Sadie’s Ice Cream Parlor

Now it’s going to be even harder to choose your favorite scoops at Sadie’s Ice Cream Parlor. This sweet little shop, just steps from the resort’s world-famous Longest Front Porch, is adding three new ice cream flavors this season. They have been created in partnership with Grand Hotel’s ice cream supplier, the Michigan-based Guernsey Farms Dairy. The new flavors are: Cinnamon Roll, Birthday Cake, and Chocolate Covered Strawberry. Sadie’s will open May 6.

Seersucker Sundays are coming to Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel in 2024. Photo provided by Grand Hotel. Grand Hotel

Seersucker Sundays

When summertime peaks on Mackinac Island, it’s the perfect time to put on something made from cooling seersucker fabric. Grand Hotel this season is doing a hat-tip to this vintage resort favorite with its new Seersucker Sundays.

“Celebrate from Memorial Day to Labor Day with Seersucker Sundays! During Seersucker Sunday, guests and staff alike will have the opportunity to revel in the spirit of summer while adorned in their finest seersucker ensembles. Each of our restaurants will feature special Seersucker Sunday offerings to those who dress up.”

Want to purchase your own seersucker suit? Grand Hotel suggests enthusiasts visit haspel.com and use code GRNDHTL15 at checkout to receive a 15% discount.

Season of Connection

The 2024 guest season is all about making connections - with your family, your friends, and island experiences. The Grand Hotel team recently released this video below to show guests what’s waiting for them at the resort this year.

Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel

The Cupola Bar at the top of Grand Hotel is a luxurious stop during your vacation.

New look for the sky-high Cupola Bar

A bar perched atop the resort offers one of the best views on the island. You can see the Straits, the Mackinac Bridge, and freighter, boat and ferry traffic, all while sitting comfortably in the Cupola Bar. This year, guests will see a new design when they enjoy the panoramic view.

“Design elements in this space will feature patterns of greens and blues, inspired by its surrounding views, along with sconces on the walls to match the iconic Murano glass chandelier.

“Already considered the crown jewel of Grand Hotel, soon the Cupola Bar will shine even brighter thanks to the vision of Dorothy Draper & Co.”

Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel

Dorothy Draper Home

For decades, there has been a colorful relationship between Grand Hotel and the Dorothy Draper design team. They’re responsible for the resort’s bold prints, patterns, florals and other statement design elements.

This year, resort guests and others can take a little bit of this design brand home with them. “We are excited to announce Grand Hotel will be opening Dorothy Draper Home. This shop will offer a collection of gifts, apparel, books on design and home products. Maybe a teddy bear in a logo bathrobe is just the thing to delight your child with the promise of a vacation to come.”

New Classes, Activity Booking and Experiences

The popular Watercolor Art Classes are moving to the new Woodlands Nature Center on the resort’s grounds this season. Guests can also book offsite activities online through the resort (grandhotel.com/experiences). These include:

  • Sip N’ Sail Sunset Cruises
  • Forge a Memory Blacksmithing

“Explore our lovely Woodlands Green House, where a wide variety of plants and flowers are on display. Among many colorful geranium varieties, you’ll recognize our signature Americana Dark Red Geranium, the gorgeous flower that lines our famous Front Porch and blooms by the thousands throughout our grounds.”

Hackney Horses

Get to Know the Famous Horses and Take a Stable Tour

Grand Hotel is known for its high-stepping Hackney horses that pull the flashy, lightweight VIP carriages. Their stable also houses their bigger cousins, the huge-muscled and well-matched draft teams that pull the heavier Omnibus wagons that carry hotel guests and their luggage. This summer, more tours are being added for horse lovers to see these beautiful animals up close.

“The Season of Connection introduces a new, unique behind-the-scenes experience with our beloved Hackney Horses and Grand Hotel Stables Team, as well as continuing our guided walks to the Grand Hotel Stables and our Meet the Horses of Grand Hotel experiences. Meet and pet the Grand Hotel Percheron horses as Stable Master Ben Mosley shares insights about their daily lives.”

Sustainability on the Edge of The Straits

“At Grand Hotel, we are taking action to support the quality of our surrounding environment, from Mackinac Island to all of Michigan and the waters of Lake Huron,” hotel staff said in announcing some sustainable changes. “Our goal for 2024, and the future, include reducing the quantity of waste that finds its way into the Great Lakes and the environment and incorporating food waste initiatives into all 13 Grand Hotel restaurants.”

Actions include:

  • The recent introduction of a bulk amenity system for guest bathroom products - a responsible alternative to the 300,000 disposable bottles typically thrown away in a season.
  • A new system to replaces disposable containers in the employee cafeteria with an eco-friendly and reusable lunch box system.
  • Reusable to-go coffee cups in the employee cafeteria
  • Reducing plastic containers by offering the Boxed Water brand at all Grand Hotel restaurants and for sale at its to-go store.

Webcam at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island captures sunrises, sunsets

Want to watch the sunrise over Lake Huron, get a glimpse of the Straits of Mackinac, or catch a sunset from the tip of Mackinac Island? Look no further than your phone or laptop.

The Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island has a new webcam and will use it to share views of sunrises and sunsets from its front lawn.

Here's the link: WMVision - LIVE Streaming (wetmet.net)

More: Other cameras Discover Michigan's beauty from anywhere: 16 cameras give live look at cities statewide

The West Michigan Tourist Association announced the webcam in a news release Thursday that touted this year's packages and other amenities at the resort.

Mission Point is the only resort on the island that allows dogs, according to the news release.

The Free Press reported in March that Michigan has cameras displaying live feeds from the southeastern corner to the northwest tip of the Upper Peninsula. While it may be fun to sneak a peek at a place a couple of hundreds of miles away, the cameras have practical functions, too, in helping to plan a trip more accurately.

More: Changing hands Harbour View Inn hotel on Mackinac Island sold to Grosse Pointe couple

Liz Ware, a member of the Ware family that has owned the resort for a decade, said the webcam will be trained to catch the sun as it rises over Lake Huron and the colors that spread across the sky before it emerges.

"It's the show before it comes up," said Ware, the resort's vice president of sales and marketing.

More: Women rule Mackinac Island bars, restaurants, shipping have been transformed by women

The cameras are ideal for spotting freighters sailing the Great Lakes.

Another suggestion for enjoying Mackinac Island this summer from Joey Swatzell, Mission Point grounds supervisor, is to take a bird-watching walk and look for the custom-made Purple Martin birdhouse shaped like Mission Point and made by his grandfather.

You’ll Never Guess the Biggest ‘Somewhere in Time’ Fan! Jane Seymour Shares, Plus the Star Heads Back to Mackinac Island

“Come back to me.”

Fans still get chills when they hear that line delivered by Teresa Wright (starring as an elderly 19th century woman) as she hands a dashingly handsome Christopher Reeve that famous pocket watch in the opening scene of 1980’s beloved classic Somewhere in Time . Cue the movie’s theme song and the tears will come flowing.

The film was a gloriously romantic tearjerker that shared the time-travel love story of present-day Chicago playwright Richard Collier (Reeve) and the beautiful turn-of-the-century actress Elise McKenna ( Jane Seymour ). It was Reeve’s first film post his Superman role.

In present day, on a visit to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island , Michigan, Richard comes across the hotel’s Hall of History where he discovers a photograph of a beautiful woman who starred in a play at the hotel theater in 1912. It was Elise McKenna, and he becomes obsessed with learning more about her. Richard uses self-hypnosis to go 68 years back in time to meet her.

Fans of Seymour and the movie have warmly greeted her back to Mackinac Island multiple times since, where she’s shared stories of filming, as well as her real-life love affair with Reeve.

Seymour Plans to Return to Mackinac Island

Seymour will return once again to the famed Grand Hotel from Tuesday, June 11 through Thursday, June 13, 2024, but this time she also will be focusing on her current series Harry Wild , which is making its season premiere on May 13 on the streaming service Acorn TV (along with a co-premiere on BBC America ). The event is titled “On the Case With Jane Seymour.”

“Instead of just talking about Somewhere in Time , which they do every October for Somewhere in Time enthusiasts, which I can’t do this year because hopefully I’m filming, they are doing something with Harry Wild ,” Seymour tells us. “We thought it’d be a perfect place to talk about some of my new ventures, as well. But it’s a beautiful, beautiful hotel. A great place to go.”

Packages are already available for fans. You can enjoy a special screening and Q&A session on Harry Wild , and a meet-and-greet with Seymour, along with surprises from the Harry Wild cast and crew members. In addition, an autograph session with Seymour and a 1920s-themed cocktail reception are planned, along with a “Movies on Mackinac” lecture with resident historian Bob Tagatz.

Seymour’s Fondest Film Memories

As for what Seymour remembers enjoying about filming Somewhere in Time , she tells us it was everything. “It was the happiest and ultimately the saddest experience filming ever in my life. Christopher Reeve and I, the chemistry was just palpable, and everything you saw onscreen ended up being very real. We kept it secret for many years, but we fell madly in love making that movie and remained very, very close friends until literally the day he died.”

The film remains an extremely important part of Seymour’s life, and she’s made the trip to support her fan base and the hotel over the years.

As for the biggest Somewhere in Time fan …

“People stop me all over the world for Somewhere in Time . The biggest fan I ever met was General Colin Powell. He literally went crazy when he saw me, he went, ‘Oh, my God. Somewhere in Time ,’ and that was it. We were then talking for hours about everything in life, and then the next day we had breakfast together, and then every time I saw him in Washington, he’d cross the room. We became good friends completely because he was obsessed with this movie,” Seymour adds. “So, anyone who says to me it’s a chick flick knows that they are completely wrong. Men love this movie even more than women.”

Actress Jane Seymour and Actor Christopher Reeve take a break during filming of 'Somewhere in Time' on the veranda of the Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island, Michigan in May, 1979.
