A Great Tour Company and Great Customer Service

This was our first trip with Passports. We had heard good things by we were not completely sure what to expect. I have to say, we had many conversations during the trip that revolved around how great a job Passports was doing on the trip. From the hotels to the meals, from the transportation to the activities, from our tour guide to the behind the scenes work that Passports employees had done to ensure a quality tour, we were satisfied at all turns.

Passports is the best!

Passports made our school trip easy, fun, and informative. They really went the extra mile to ensure our trip fit our needs. Our hotel was central and clean, the food was fabulous and authentic, and our tour-guide, Antonio, was THE BEST!

Their mantra: "Profit by making customers happy"

Excellent everything, would recommend them again! I started planning next year's trip for my students before my current trip had even ended: - Centrally located and quality hotels - Excellent, culturally relevant meals - Well organized itinerary with out any hitches - Enthusiastic tour leaders (I've requested to have our same one for next year's trip, Marc Alia) - Friendly staff and very communicable Passports seems to operate under the oft forgotten mantra of "Profit by making customers happy". I would take a group of 30 travelers to Europe with them ANY time!

Passports was a great experience!

Passports took care of my students and really cared about how our experience went while abroad. For many of my students, this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and Passports helped it be an amazing experience. When our flights were canceled and the airline refused to help us, Passports stepped in and helped us come up with a solution quickly. The tour director, Nathy, was knowledgeable and took care of everything. The local tour guides made learning about the monuments and history interesting for my students.

This is a company that truly cares…

This is a company that truly cares about their group leaders and travelers. I had constant effective communication pre travel - during the trip- post travel with Company Headquarters as well as the Tour Director. Each question was answered right away and had the best interest of the traveler in mind. I can't express enough how seamless the trip went. The food was great and the hotels were excellent.

10 days in Europe and lifelong memories

I recently traveled to 3 different countries with my child's French class through Europe, and my experience with Passports far exceeded my expectations. We saw beyond just the main tourist landmarks, it was educational, we didn't live the entire trip in a travel couch (I enjoyed all the walking and the public forms of transit, it felt we were actually understanding the cities in a more authentic way.) We ate at actually restaurants and enjoyed top notch service, and stayed in some very nice hotels that were all located conveniently in downtown areas with so many stores and attractions within walking distance. Our tour guide Marc was one of the best parts. He went above and beyond the itinerary, listened with care and catered to any special needs of our group, and had an energy and love for his country that resonated in every experience he guided us through. If I were to do a group travel in another country again I would chose and recommend Passports.

If you are planning a student tour, look no further than Passports!

If you want an amazing tour with top-notch customer service, Passports is the company for you! When my French students asked me to take them to Europe over a year ago, I spent hours researching which company to go with. Best decision I've ever made was choosing Passports. I just got back last night from a dream tour of France and Switzerland and am already wanting to plan another trip! All I can think is that they must have some amazing connections and a little bit of magic to get us such a good price and value for our 10-day trip! All of the hotels were in the hearts of the cities, including Paris! They were beautiful hotels too, with luxurious rooms. My students were in heaven. The restaurants provided a good variety of authentic, filling food and a great atmosphere to socialize over our meals. We had enough interested students and parents to make our tour a private tour and customize many activities. My students absolutely loved riding bikes in Versailles park, riding the TGV train and visiting a cheese and perfume factory. We easily hit all of the popular monuments in Paris and still ended with relaxing time on the beach in Nice. Our tour director was also with us every step of the way, making sure everything went smoothly so I could just enjoy getting to know my students, speaking French with them and making memories with them. I am so appreciative that this company did not cut any corners when it came to my tour and really gave us more than we could have asked for in terrms of quality and the best customer service. I cannot wait to travel with them again in the future!

Passports is incredible!

Passports is incredible!! We had such a smooth travel experience from pre-departure to return. Katy and Dale made it so easy to plan and get the trip off the group, our on-site tour director, Alison, was a HUGE hit with both kids and chaperones. The food and accommodations was awesome, and even when our train to Paris was cancelled due to the train strikes, Passports jumped in to solve the problem and still got us to Paris that day. I went on a tour with Passports 9 years ago as a high school student, and it was just as much fun going as a group leader with my own students. Cannot wait to travel with them again!!

Passports is hands down the best for custom private student tours!

I cannot tell you how grateful we are for the incredible tour passport put together for us. I have been leading European tours for 25 years and hands down Passports gets it right. I’m a little annoyed with myself for not moving to Passports sooner. Our custom private tour was exactly what I hoped for. Minus the rain in Venice, Florence and Rome- nothing any of us can control. And some snafus with flights in due to strike and a missed connection on the return due to airport construction- again out of our control. The trip was exceptional. Students had a meaningful educational experience, they bonded as a group and had fun enjoying so many unique parts of Italy. From Venice to Positano this group soaked it all up and left room to return! Chiara our Tour Director was beyond amazing, organized, kind, considerate, and brilliant! Thank you all for your care in crafting a truly beautiful tour!

Passports is the only student tour group I will use.

Passports has proven, yet again, why they are the only travel company I will use. The pre-planning is easy, allowing me to get the tour that I want. Registration is smooth and user friendly for my students. Staff was always available to help- both online and in person on the phone. The hotels and restaurants are all in great locations, they guides are excellent, and attention is paid to every detail. We skipped every line and were able to fit in so much in such a short time. Once you travel this way, it is hard to consider ever doing it anyway else.

Passports is in a class all their own.

Passports is the best! If you're looking for student or group travel options I cannot recommend any other company than Passports. The tours, guides, and staff are first class. As someone who has taken multiple tours with Passports, I continue to be amazed at how they craft one-of-a-kind experiences for our groups. Their dedication and commitment to excellence are second to none.

Costa Rica with high school group

Just got back from Costa Rica with a group of high school kids. Best...trip...ever. The kids saw so much and had such a good time that they still talk to our guide on social media. We originally had scheduled a trip to the Galapagos and Ecuador, but had to pick a new destination at the last moment. Passports made sure we got our value and the replacement trip was better than I think the original destination was going to be Great company!

Exceptional Tour Company

Exceptional Tour Company - from planning to travel, Passports offered excellent customer service and great value for our trip. The hotels were not just centrally located, but were located near the activities planned for our trip. They were excellent at handling the details of our trip from our requested itinerary to the plentiful meals. Our trip leader was excellent - passionate, joyful, knowledgable and worked well with the students and chaperones. Passports even includes tips in the pricing so that our students don't have to worry about paying for service on the tour. We have travelled with other companies in the past but were most impressed with Passports. We could not have been happier and will travel with Passports again!

Passports Thinks of Everything!

Passports thought of everything! Our hotel was centrally located, clean, and lovely. The food on the trip was authentic and quality. The tour guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. The balance of scheduled and free time was perfect. The ability of the Passports team to adjust, to think on their feet, to accommodate, and to truly give an outstanding experience is unmatched.

Trust Passports for the best itinerary at the best price

The more I travel with my students, the more I appreciate and trust Passports! The level of professional knowledge, insights, the contacts they have in every country and community has translated into incredible opportunities for my students. They utilize the best tour directors in the business, and do all this for the best price. We just returned from this year’s trip and are already planning next year’s! Thank you, Passports, for making international travel possible for my students!

France Trip Review

While I was staying in Paris with my host family, I had the most amazing time and everything was beyond great. However, once we got to Nice, our hotel did not have a fridge, so the food that I had brought with me from Paris went bad, which was a huge inconvenience for me and caused me to spend the money I had saved for other things on rebuying the food that went bad. Other than this, the trip was very well planned.

Beyond Expectation

Passports exceeded my expectations on my tour! It was my first tour with them, a Training Tour for group leaders, and they just blew me away. I never expected a company to make me feel like family and so welcomed from the moment I arrived. Our hotel was right in the middle of the action, everything was meticulously planned and EASY, and transportation was a snap. I've worked with other tour companies in the past and nothing compares to Passports. I'm very much looking forward to my tour this summer because I know they will exceed my expectations then as well.

Passports Teacher Convention

I found the workshop especially enlightening. I've been traveling with Passports since 2009 and while I knew it was special, hearing your company's mantra and goals solidified why I will stay with you all. "Maintaining our humanity and being a force for good in the world", very much aligns with how I want to live my life. Thank you for putting out good energy into the world.

Easy and Fun!

Traveling with Passports is always easy and fun. Everything is very well planned and very detailed! The hotel is centrally located, so that makes free time and evenings so much easier to plan! For example, if I saw something fun, like a gelato stand, during the day on a walking tour, and can find it again that evening and indulge.

Excellent experience besides a couple of disappointments

The organization before the trip was great! A couple improvements would be to explain early on to tour leaders that it is extremely hard to get tickets to make it to the top of the Eiffel Tower and to let them know that tipping is not included. I found that out a little late and felt uncomfortable asking parents for more money, which let to our guide not being tipped as well as she should have. Our guides on the first day and the south of France portion of our trip were excellent. The food was great and the hotels well located in the center of town. However, the guide during our 2-day visit of Paris was not good at all and the homestay could have been better. Some students had families who went the extra mile to take care of them and show them a good time and others had families who did the bare minimum, which was disappointing for them and me.

Tour Itinerary

Day One   We fly to the film and TV capital of the world where, to no surprise, one of the most famous parades takes place—the grand-daddy of them all—the Rose Parade.  No other parade comes close to it with its all floral floats.  Today we get a rare glimpse at how these magnificent floats are made with a behind-the-scenes tour to watch       finishing touches being made.

Day Two   We have the grand city tour today including Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the Walk of Fame, the Hollywood sign, La Brea tour pits and the iconic Sunset Strip.  This afternoon, we will visit the Getty Villa. This is the original Getty Museum and it now holds one of the top collections of antiquities.  The gardens and building architecture will blow you away.  Tonight we have our New Year’s Eve dinner to ring in the New Year (early).

Day Three   This is the big day!  We have reserve seats to watch the parade from start to end.  This is a  once-in-a-lifetime experience most can only dream about.  After the parade is over, the best part begins.  We will have exclusive tickets to go to the area where all the floats are parked.  You get so close to the floats, you can literally touch them! Simply amazing.

Day Four   This is going to be a fun day of sites in LA that few may visit but all hold a special place in Hollywood and LA’s history.  We will see the last surviving shark from Jaws , original R2D2 from Star Wars , not one, but two incredible mirrored infinity rooms, one of the better Native American art collections and the Rosebud sled from Citizen Kane .  From art to western history to Hollywood treasures, this day will have something for everyone and tons to delight all.

Day Five  Bill has one last surprise up his sleeve so you can start off the new travel year with a big smile and a wonderful experience.  From the greatest floral parade to ancient wonders, from prehistoric tar pits to Hollywood magic and from western lore to incredible art, this trip brings it all.  This truly is La La Land.

Traveler, getting out and seeing the world is not just what you do. It's who you are. And who doesn’t want even more reasons to do what they love?

The Collette Passport Club rewards you for every trip you take… and as you continue checking tours off your bucket list, you can unlock even more perks along the journey. Basically: the more you travel, the more benefits you’ll receive. And the best part? The bigger the trip, the bigger the reward.

Because we thank you for sharing your journey with us.

Here’s how it works:

Adventurer Badge

Passport Club Level 1: Adventurer (1 – 2 completed tours)

  • Receive a 5% Loyalty Credit* on your next Collette tour when it’s completed within 12 months of your most recent tour departure date.
  • Receive a 3% Loyalty Credit* on tours completed within 13-24 months of your most recent tour departure date .

* Loyalty credit is calculated as a percentage of the land portion of the last tour taken, including pre/post-tour extensions, room upgrades, and on-tour internal air, less any discounts/offers. Airfare to and from the tour, airport transfers, pre & post-night accommodations, optional tours, taxes and fees, and travel insurance are excluded from the credit calculation.

Below the Equator Badge

Passport Club Level 2: Explorer (3+ completed tours)

In addition to the perks of Level 1, after travelers return from their third tour and all subsequent tours, they’ll receive the following additional benefit :

  • $100 of credit towards purchasing optional tour components (including pre- and post-tour extensions, pre- and post-night accommodations, pre-purchased optional tours, air upgrades, room upgrades) when travel is completed within 24 months of the most recent tour departure date .

Frequently Asked Questions

Which level am i: adventurer or explorer.

You have been assigned to the appropriate level of the loyalty program based on the total number of tours you’ve taken since 2006.

You would be assigned to Adventurer level if you have completed one or two tours with Collette or Explorer level if you have completed three or more tours with Collette.

Collette maintains reservation history for departures starting from 2006 and onward. Your overall trip count includes all tours you have taken since 2006.

There is no time requirement within which you have to take your third tour to move from the Adventurer to the Explorer level of the program.

Members of the Explorer level of the program earn $100 per-person credit towards purchasing optional tour upgrade components (pre/post tour extensions, pre/post night accommodations, pre-purchased optional tours, air upgrades, room upgrades, air upgrades and more) on every tour they take.

How Do I Earn Future Travel Loyalty Credits?

No, all tours that Collette offers are eligible for this program.

Travelers on all tours that Collette offers will receive future travel credits.

Regardless of the method by which you book a trip with Collette, you will receive a future travel credit upon the departure of your tour.

Future travel credits are automatically generated on your tour departure date (generally this is the date that your tour formally begins in-destination). Please note that your individual departure may be before this date depending on your destination and travel arrangements.

If you have booked with us directly or through a travel advisor, you will receive an email following your tour with program details as well as the amount of your future travel credit.

How Do I Apply My Future Travel Loyalty Credits?

When embarking on back-to-back tours, you cannot use a credit earned on the first tour towards the second one. Travel credits are generated upon departure, and must be applied to your reservation prior to final payment. In the case of back-to-back tours, you will have already paid for the second tour in full by the time a future travel credit is generated from the first tour's departure.

If you have a future travel credit available, it will not be applied automatically to your new booking. You must request at time of booking that you would like your credit applied.

When you make a booking, you can specify whether your travel credit should be applied partially or in full.

Additionally, credits may be accrued for future use. That said, be sure to keep in mind the dates that your credits will be reduced in value from 5% to 3% (1 year after their generation) or expire (2 years after their generation), as credits have to be used by a specific departure date not a specific booking date .

For example, say you traveled in February and April and are saving credits from these tours to apply them to a tour in November later that year. If due to unforeseen circumstances, you are unable to travel in November and you rebook for a tour departing the following May, your travel credits earned in February and April of prior year will have already reduced in value by the time of your May departure.

A 5% travel loyalty credit will reduce to 3% exactly one year following the departure date of the tour it was earned from.

A 3% travel loyalty credit will reduce to zero (fully expire) exactly two years following the departure date of the tour it was earned from.

For example, a tour that departed September 1, 2023 would have generated a 5% future travel credit on the same date. That credit would be valid at the 5% level for tour departures through September 1, 2024. As of this date, the 5% credit would reduce to 3%, valid for tour departures through September 1, 2025. At this time, the travel credit expires fully.

Any existing loyalty credits that have not expired before the new program's launch on September 1, 2023, will retain their value as of their date of use.

Future travel credits of 5% are generated only for tours departing on or after September 1, 2023, regardless of their original booking date.

Terms and Conditions Passport Club Loyalty credits are earned upon tour departure and can be applied to bookings on future tours to be taken. Full credit of 5% is valid for your next tour when travel is completed within 12 months of the original trip departure date. A reduced credit of 3% is valid for travel within 13-24 months. Credit expires 24 months after the original trip departure date. Loyalty credit is calculated as a percentage based on the land portion of the last tour taken, including pre/post-tour extensions, room upgrades, and on-tour internal air, less any discounts/offers. Airfare to and from the tour, airport transfers, pre & post-night accommodations, optional tours, taxes and fees, and travel insurance are excluded from the credit calculation. Loyalty credit may be combinable with other offers. Credit must be applied before final payment on a future booking. Credit is not redeemable for cash and is non-transferrable. Passport Club Level 2: Explorer additional $100 credit is valid on new bookings for past guests who have previously traveled with Collette three or more times and are booking their fourth or more trip. New Loyalty credits will be generated for all returning travelers after their return date. The new credits will start with the September 1, 2023, tour departure dates and can be applied to future bookings in addition to non-expired loyalty credits that were generated under the original loyalty program.

Where can I travel without a passport? Try these 6 destinations.

Securing a passport can be a hassle.

New applicants can expect to spend $130 for a passport book, plus a $35 acceptance fee. Routine wait times are 10 to 13 weeks , and that doesn’t include mailing times, according to the State Department. Paying a $60 fee can expedite the process, but travelers will still need to wait seven to nine weeks for processing.

That means spur-of-the-moment international trips without a passport can be impossible to pull off.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Luckily, not all destinations require U.S. tourists to carry the document. Here are some popular destinations you can visit without a passport.

Puerto Rico passport requirements

Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory and popular Caribbean destination , is about as easy to fly to as any state if you have a state-issued ID.

The island does not require a passport among U.S. citizens.

US Virgin Islands passport requirements

The U.S. Virgin Islands, another Caribbean destination, allows domestic travelers to enter without a passport.

"If you are a U.S. citizen a passport is not required, but it still serves as the best identification when traveling," the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism's website says. "Otherwise, you must be prepared to show evidence of citizenship when departing the islands, such as a raised-seal birth certificate and government-issued photo ID."

Northern Mariana Islands passport requirements

Passports are not required to visit the Northern Mariana Islands, a  U.S. commonwealth  made up of 14 islands, including Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

Guam passport requirements

The Guam Visitors Bureau says U.S. citizens are required to show a U.S. passport, but photo ID and proof of citizenship may be accepted "on a case-by-case basis."

Canada passport requirements

Citizens who are members of the NEXUS program , which expedites entry for pre-screened travelers, can present their membership as proof of identification when traveling, according to the Canadian government's website .

Travelers who do not have a passport can apply for a NEXUS card but will be able to use it at land or marine crossings only, not airports .

A NEXUS application processing fee costs $50 for a five-year membership, and children under 18 can apply with no fee. Application processing takes 12 to 14 months, according to the Department of Homeland Security .

Additionally,  the State Department  says travelers under 16 do not need a passport to enter Canada; they need only proof of U.S. citizenship.

Closed-loop cruise passport requirements

Travelers on closed-loop cruises – sailings that depart and end at the same U.S. port and travel within the Western Hemisphere – do not need a passport, according to Customs and Border Protection.

U.S. citizens can enter the country with a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. If under 16, a U.S. citizen can present their birth certificate , certificate of naturalization or consular birth report abroad.

Customs and Border Protection says U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises can enter or depart a country on the cruise with proof of citizenship, but some destination countries "may require" a passport.

"In those instances, the cruise lines would require passengers to have a valid passport to board even if it is not a U.S. requirement," the agency's website reads. "You should check with your cruise ship, travel agent, and destination country to confirm the requirements to enter the foreign countries you will visit."

Already planning to see the next solar eclipse in 2026? What travelers need to know.

Umbraphiles feeling the post-eclipse blues should start checking the expiration date on their passports.

The next total solar eclipse is set to happen on Aug. 12, 2026, over Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and a small part of Portugal, according to NASA .

In North America, only a partial eclipse will be visible, so if April’s event made you an eclipse chaser and you want to see totality, you’ll need to head overseas.

Here’s what you’ll need to know before packing your bags:

Do you need a passport or visa for the best destination?

The path of totality for the 2026 eclipse mostly goes through places Americans can travel visa-free with their passport, so long as they’re planning to stay for less than 90 days.

Spain, Portugal, Iceland and Greenland all allow visa-free tourist travel for U.S. passport holders.

Spain, Portugal and Iceland are also members of the Schengen Area, which allows for visa-free travel in much of Europe, meaning if you decide to make a multi-country trip out of your eclipse adventure, you won’t need to clear customs if you’re coming from much of the rest of Europe, either.

One major change for travelers to Europe from the U.S., however, is that electronic preauthorization will become a requirement beginning in mid-2025. The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) requirement will apply to all four open countries in the path of totality.

Depending on the state of the Ukraine war, travel to Russia may or may not be an option for most Americans by 2026, so it’s unclear what the paperwork requirements will be by then.

Is it better to see it from the beach?

Beaches can be a great place to see the eclipse because there are few natural obstacles blocking observers’ views of the sky. The 2026 path of totality passes over beaches on Spain’s northern and southeastern coasts, as well as over islands in the Mediterranean Sea including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The eclipse will also pass over coastal areas in Greenland and Iceland, according to the National Solar Observatory .

Cruising Altitude: What it was like to see the eclipse from a plane

Will there be eclipse cruises or flights?

Almost certainly, although most operators have not announced specific plans yet.

Cruise lines will also offer more viewing opportunities. Princess Cruises “has created a bespoke itinerary aboard Sky Princess to position the ship near Spain on that date,” according to a spokesperson for the line. The cruise will open for bookings on Princess’s website on May 23.

Cunard Line has sailings on its Queen Mary 2 , Queen Victoria and Queen Anne vessels that will put passengers in prime spots to watch .

'The ship can move': Why you should watch next solar eclipses from a cruise ship

Holland America Line is also planning multiple sailings around the event, though details are still to be announced. “Guests have reacted positively to our 2024 eclipse cruises and with the next full eclipse in 2026 we plan to have three sailings in Europe that will align with the path of the eclipse,” Paul Grigsby, the line's vice president of Deployment & Itinerary Planning, previously told USA TODAY in an email.
