Peugeot e-Traveller electric minibus: prices, specs and details

Peugeot’s e-traveller electric minibus is open for reservations ahead of 2021 on-sale date; will start from £37,430 in the uk.

peugeot traveller elektro

Peugeot is now accepting reservations for its electric minibus, the e-Traveller, ahead of its 2021 arrival in showrooms. A passenger version of the e-Expert panel van , it's available in a choice of seating arrangements and wheelbases. Reservations can be made with a fully refundable £250 deposit.

Prices start at £37,430 for the standard-length model in Active trim; standard equipment includes 17-inch wheels, rear parking sensors and cruise control, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. The e-Traveller is also available in Allure trim, which adds front parking sensors and a rear-view camera, keyless entry, sat-nav and a head-up display.

Built on the PSA Group’s familiar EMP2 platform – as found under the Citroen C5 Aircross and Peugeot 3008 – the e-Traveller is powered by a 100kW (134bhp) electric motor that’s fed by a 50kWh battery under the floor. Peugeot claims a driving range of 143 miles.

Two on-board chargers are offered: a standard 7.4kW unit and an optional 11kW one. Peugeot says a charge from a domestic socket will take 31 hours, while a 7.4kW wallbox will cut that to seven hours and 30 minutes. The 11kW charger can manage a five-hour charge from a wallbox, while rapid-charging capability means connecting to a 100kW charger will get you to 80% in just 30 minutes.

On the move, the e-Traveller can be operated in one of three modes. Eco cuts power to 80bhp in the name of maximised range, Normal operates at 107bhp as a compromise between range and performance.

Power allows access to the full 134bhp and 260Nm of torque, for maximum hill-climbing and overtaking capability. Two braking modes are also included – Moderate and Emphasised – with the latter increasing the ‘engine braking’ effect when not pressing the accelerator.

peugeot traveller elektro

To the untrained eye, the e-Traveller looks much like the standard car, but there are some detail changes inside and out. The electric model gets its own design of 'lion' badges and grille and, perhaps most tellingly, a charging-port cover on the front left wing.

Inside, most changes are related directly to the car’s electric powertrain: a head-up display and revised graphics on the central infotainment screen allow for monitoring of charge, range and other parameters, while Peugeot’s e-Toggle replaces the conventional gear selector. There are separate buttons to select driving and braking modes, too. An electric parking brake is standard, freeing up interior space.

The e-Traveller can be had in Standard and Long bodystyles, measuring 4.95 and 5.3 metres long respectively. Depending on size, the car can carry up to eight people, paired with a 1,500-litre boot with all seats in place – or with all seats removed, a massive 4,900 litres.

Introduction, what car says....

Praise be to the Peugeot e-Traveller  because you can now drive your extended family through London without burning fossil fuels or having to resort to one of those expensive horse-drawn carriages.

Yes, you read that right: this very large eight-seat (or seven, if configured as such) van-based MPV is actually an electric vehicle. The e-Traveller is not only quiet enough to avoid startling the horses trotting down The Mall, but also avoids the congestion charge.

Instead of using a diesel engine (as is traditional with van-based MPVs ), you get an electric motor with up to 134bhp. The motor gets its juice from a 50kWh battery pack that you can charge at a rate of up 100kW if you can find a charger capable of that speed.

The e-Traveller's body and electric tech are essentially the same as you’ll find in a Citroën e-Spacetourer and  Vauxhall Vivaro-e Life . If you’re wondering where this Peugeot fits into that hierarchy, just know that both those rivals have stripped-out and rather basic entry-level versions to keep the price low, while the e-Traveller is 'the posh one', aiming to take on the  Mercedes EQV .

What Car? Buying a car frequently asked questions

What Car? has a buying service

So does the Peugeot e-Traveller successfully fit into the niche but expanding sector of zero-tailpipe emissions people carriers, and how does it compare with the best MPV  rivals?

Read on through this comprehensive review to find out whether it's good to drive, how comfortable all those passengers will be, whether the running costs are manageable, which trims and engines we rate and much more.

When you're ready to buy a new vehicle of any make and model, don't forget that you can track down the best prices using our free  What Car? New Car Buying service . It has lots of  Peugeot e-Traveller deals .

Performance & drive

What it’s like to drive, and how quiet it is.

Your Peugeot e-Traveller engine choice is simple because there's only one option: an electric motor borrowed from the Peugeot e-208 and Peugeot e-2008 . There are three drive modes – Eco, Normal and Power – which vary the available power considerably, up to a maximum 134bhp.

The Power mode gives you the full whack, with the potential for 0-62mph in a not bad (for a massive passenger van) 10.8sec. If you stick the e-Traveller in Eco when you’re running low on juice, you’ll only have 80bhp to play with and a vehicle that will struggle to top 65mph on a level motorway.

Speaking of range, the e-Traveller has an official figure of 148 miles, and that's fairly typical for this size of van-based MPV . You can expect to get significantly less (potentially under 100 miles in our hands) if you’re travelling on a motorway while loaded up with people and luggage. The Mercedes EQV  has a much longer potential range north of 200 miles.

Peugeot Traveller image

You can improve the range by using the gearbox’s ‘B’ mode for increased regenerative braking. This puts energy back into the battery while slowing the vehicle down, lowering your overall consumption. Even without it engaged, the brakes are pleasantly progressive as they switch between regeneration and the vehicle’s mechanical brakes.

Ride quality – which is usually of greater importance than performance in a people hauler – is generally fine. Compared with a non-electric Toyota Proace Verso (which has the same platform), the e-Traveller isn’t as settled over scruffy road surfaces.

That may change with passengers on board, but it will still end up feeling quite bouncy over undulations at speed. Plus there’s a significant ‘thwack’ sound that reverberates through the interior when you hit a big pothole at town speeds. Fortunately, there’s no real motor whine of note while you’re driving the e-Traveller, and wind and road noise are well contained.

On the road, you won’t be mistaking the e-Traveller for a smaller MPV like the Volkswagen Touran , but it is at least just as easy to drive. The steering is pretty accurate, although it does involve a lot of arm twirling when parking. At higher speeds, the body leans a bit in tighter bends, but you get used to that after a while, and generally appreciate the e-Traveller’s decent grip levels that allow you to maintain your pace down a country road.

Peugeot e-Traveller rear cornering

The interior layout, fit and finish

One of the benefits of going for the Peugeot e-Traveller over regular MPVs and seven-seat SUVs is that you tower over other vehicles. That’s thanks to its commanding driving position, even in the seat’s lowest setting (you get height adjustment as standard). In typical van fashion, you sit above the pedals, which could take some getting used to if you’re coming from a car or SUV.

The boxy shape of the e-Traveller makes it easy to judge the width, but you can't see the stubby nose from the driving seat, although if you go for the top-end Allure version, you get front parking sensors, which you can’t add to the Citroën e-Spacetourer or Vauxhall Vivaro-e Life .

Citroën gives you rear parking sensors as standard to help when reversing in tight spaces, but a rear camera is only available as part of an expensive visibility pack on Active, or standard on Allure trim.

The e-Traveller doesn’t sound like a van, but it can’t hide its commercial vehicle heritage inside. Even the poshest Allure trim, with its ‘brushed aluminium’ inlays and leather seats, can’t hide the acres of hard plastic. At least rear air-con is standard, and the overhead console comes with plenty of air vents for good ventilation. A Mercedes EQV is quite a lot more premium inside, though.

All versions of the e-Traveller get a 7.0in touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, a DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, and a USB socket. Sat-nav is an option on Active and standard on Allure. It’s a fairly easy system to navigate but some of the icons are small and it can be a bit sluggish to respond to commands. Allure models have a grander nine-speaker sound system that sounds plenty good enough, although it’s probably helped by the lack of engine noise getting in the way.

Peugeot e-Traveller interior dashboard

Passenger & boot space

How it copes with people and clutter.

You can have your Peugeot e-Traveller in either Standard or (with top-end Allure trim) Long, and you can fit eight people inside comfortably, with plenty of head, leg and shoulder room to go around. The difference is, you’ll have an easier time hauling around the luggage of those eight people in the Long version because it has a bigger boot.

The benefit of opting for such a large vehicle is that you can fit six actual people across the second and third rows.

The seats can be reclined for additional comfort and have Isofix mounts so you can fit child seats. They also slide so you can trade boot space for leg space if required, and all rows get a 12v socket for charging various devices.

A seven seat configuration with two ‘captain’s chairs’ for the second row is available for additional cost. They can be spun round if you fancy ignoring the driver and having a conversation with the people in the third row.

The e-Traveller in Allure trim has a panoramic sunroof as standard, and it lets lots of light into the rear without making much difference to the very generous headroom available.

Even with all three rows in place, there’s enough space in the e-Traveller’s boot to handle lots of holiday luggage. You have to leave a good space behind the car when you park, though, because the long tailgate is hinged from the top and needs plenty of room to swing open. Top-spec Allure helps with this by including a rear glass window that can be opened separately.

Peugeot e-Traveller interior rear seats

Buying & owning

Everyday costs, plus how reliable and safe it is.

The Peugeot e-Traveller is more expensive to buy than the Citroën e-Spacetourer or Vauxhall Vivaro-e Life . Both rivals have stripped-out entry-level versions that qualify for the Government’s electric car grant making them even cheaper, while no e-Traveller qualifies. The premium  Mercedes EQV  is much more expensive than all three.

You can recharge the e-Traveller’s batteries pretty quickly. According to official figures, it’ll take around 30 minutes to go from a 10-80% charge if you can use a 100kW charging station . A domestic 7kW wallbox charger will complete a full charge from empty in 7.5 hours.

There are two trim levels available. Entry-level Active cars get manual air-con, cruise control, a digital radio with a 7.0in infotainment system, 17in alloy wheels and rear parking sensors. The Allure trim – which you have to have if you want the longer L model – adds Xenon headlights plus front parking sensors and a reversing camera, leather trim, electrically heated and adjustable front seats, a better stereo, and keyless entry and start.

Safety kit includes automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and driver drowsiness monitoring (in the Driver Assist pack). Blind-spot warning is standard on Allure trim to help spot traffic along your flanks.

Peugeot didn’t do particularly well as a brand in our latest 2021 What Car? Reliability Survey , coming in joint 22nd place with Mercedes and Vauxhall. Citroën did much better, coming 11th out of the 30 manufacturers included.

Every Peugeot gets a three-year warranty, and the battery pack is covered under a separate eight-year or 100,000 mile warranty.

Updated 2024 Peugeot E-Traveller adds range, tech and style

Peugeot’s electric passenger van now travels up to 217 miles on a charge and comes with new look.

peugeot traveller elektro

Peugeot has unveiled an updated version of its all-electric E- Traveller van, now capable of much improved range and coming with some new styling elements. Available in two length options the E-Traveller joins a range of EV passenger vans in Peugeot ’s range including the new E-Rifter .

Key improvements over the previous Peugeot E-Traveller model include a 50 per cent larger battery pack which now sits at 75kWh. This gives the new van 217 miles of claimed range, a significant increase over the previous model’s 143 miles. This larger battery powers the same 134bhp, 260Nm electric motor which sends drive to the front wheels.

Charging capacities are unchanged from the former E-Traveller model. It offers onboard 7.4kW AC charging with an 11kW three-phase charger available as an option, as well as the ability to charge at up to 100kW on DC, taking 45 minutes to charge between 10 and 80 per cent.

2023 Peugeot E-Traveller - rear static

The E-Traveller will be available in both regular and long forms, coming in at 4.98m and 5.33m long respectively, but retains a relatively narrow width of 1.9m to help traverse narrow city streets.

Inside, the updated cabin now features a new 10-inch infotainment hub and a digital dial set shared with Peugeot’s passenger models, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto . It also comes with a range of different tech depending on the chosen specification. This includes wireless phone charging and up to four USB-C points.

The E-Traveller comes fitted with between 5 and 9 seats, including a Business VIP trim that features four individual leather seats, luxurious interior appointments and a tinted glass roof.

Externally, the new E-Traveller features Peugeot’s latest design elements including triple lighting signatures within the LED headlights, as well as a blanked off grille and restyled lower bumper.

Equipment and Modularity, Next Generation Space Modularity

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller is dedicated to passenger transport and leisure. Available in Active or Allure trim, the Traveller meets the different needs of families thanks to its changeable seat layout, with sliding and removable capabilities. This flexibility allows you to maximise interior space and enjoy driving comfort. Children can take advantage of the aviation screens in the second row and be protected by integrated sun blinds.

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller adapts to the wants and needs of everyday life thanks to its maneuverability. It also allows you to get off the beaten track with Grip Control, a reinforced drive system that adapts to any terrain encountered. The driver can select, via a dial on the dashboard, the traction mode required (Snow, All-Travel, Sand, ESC off).

Luggage in the boot can be easily accessed due to an opening rear window. Available from two to eight seats, with space, practicality, comfort and an easily cleanable interior, the zero emission PEUGEOT e-Traveller can cater for numerous customer needs. Next Generation travel Comfort

For even more versatility, the all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller is available in the UK in two lengths:

– Standard (4.95 m) – Long (5.30 m)

Note the limited height of 1.90 m guarantees access to most car parks.

The common traits of the different versions are the comfort and interior space available for all passengers. The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller can carry up to eight people with 1500 litres of boot volume, up to five people with 3000 litres or 4900 litres due to its removable seats in row two and three.

There are numerous interior storage compartments distributed throughout the passenger compartment which provide up to 74 litres in total.

The pleasure of driving

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller combines compact external dimensions and maximum loading capacities. The batteries are located under the floor so there is no impact on the boot volume or the number of seats inside the vehicle compared with the internal combustion versions. Equally, the towing capacity is preserved with the possibility of towing a load of up to 1000kg.

This positioning also favours rigidity, ensuring driving pleasure and leisure thanks to optimal weight distribution. Suspension comfort is perfectly assured, with shock absorbers and specific springs to guarantee the best performance whether unladen or laden.

Elegant and assertive style

True to the brand’s ‘power of choice’ concept, the all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller retains the elegant and assertive style of the internal combustion versions, complemented by a few distinctive features.

On the outside :

– Dichroic Lions at the front and rear – A load hatch on the left front wing – A specific grill – An “e-Traveller” monogram on the back

On the inside :

– A head up display with colour matrix, suitable for electric – Specific graphics for the central touch screen with TomTom Traffic 3D connected Navigation – A new “e-Toggle” automatic gearbox control – A drive mode selector to switch between Eco, Normal or Power modes – An electric parking brake

At the driver level, the centre console has been redesigned to accommodate:

– The new “e-Toggle” gearbox control – The selector switch for the three driving modes – Additional storage space

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller offers three driving modes from the mode selector:

– Eco (60 kW, 180 Nm): for optimising range – Normal (80 kW, 210 Nm): for everyday use – Power (100 kW, 260 Nm): for optimal performance

Two braking modes are available:

– Moderate – Emphasised (accessible from push “B”, for “Brake” located on the gearbox control), for increased deceleration when the accelerator pedal is released

All versions of the all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller are equipped with the electric parking brake, freeing up floor space.

The head up display evolves to share the necessary information the driver needs to correctly handle a 100% electric vehicle :

– A power metre for displaying consumption (ECO, POWER or CHARGE) – A consumption gauge for heating and air conditioning – A battery level gauge – A colour matrix to display energy flows, charge monitoring (current or delayed), on-board computer information and range

In the centre of the vehicle is the touch screen from which you can access the “Electric” menu:

– “Flow’ to view the live energy flow – “Statistics” to display the consumption statistics – “Charge” which allows you to program a deferred charge

In addition, you can view the available charging points, the remaining range, or set the passenger compartment’s heating preconditioning settings.

100% Electric technology

Based on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform) multi-energy modular platform, the PEUGEOT e-Traveller offers a 100% electric powertrain, with a maximum power of 100 kW and a maximum torque of 260 Nm.

The electric drive train performance (in POWER mode) is as follows (data under approval) :

– The maximum speed is 80mph (130 km/h) – 0 to 62mph (100 km/h) in 13.1 s – The 1000m standing start in 35.8 s

Standard and Long are available with a 50kWh battery and allow a range of up to 143miles (230 km) according to WLTP certification. Due to the battery cooling system, rapid charging is available.

Two types of on-board chargers are available, a 7.4 kW single-phase charger as standard, or an 11 kW three-phase charger (available as an option).

Charging modes available are as follows:

– From a standard domestic socket: 31h – From a 7.4 kW charge point: 7h30 – From an 11 kW charge point: 5h – From a public rapid charge terminal: 100 kW chargers allow 80% charge in 30 mn

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller offers a programmable deferred charge from the Connected Navigation screen or from the MyPeugeot® smartphone application (depending on version).

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller provides passengers with the highest level of temperature comfort with :

– A high-powered heating resistor (10 kW) – Heatedseats (depending on version) – Thermal pre-conditioning programmable from the touch screen (depending on version) or remotely via the MyPeugeot® smartphone application (depending on version). The PEUGEOT eco-system

In order to support its customers in the energy transition, the PEUGEOT brand is launching a range of services based on three pillars :

Easy-Charge

– An offer of charging solutions for home or the workplace, partnering with home chargepoint providers to facilitate assessment and installation of the most suitable charging solution – A public chargepoint offer

– MobilityPass: rental scheme to provide access to an internal combustion vehicle for a longer trip when required

Serenity to reassure Peugeot’s customers during the vehicle discovery phase and allow them to enjoy their vehicle in complete peace of mind :

– Adapted service contracts and roadside assistance – A certificate of battery capacity – The battery is guaranteed for eight years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km) for 70% of its charge capacity

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller is available with a number of advanced driver assistance systems, as well as Mirror Screen compatibility, including Apple Car Play™ and Android Auto™.

In town, up to 18mph (30 km/h), to ensure pedestrian safety, an audible signal is heard to indicate the presence of the vehicle in forward and reverse.

The all-new PEUGEOT e-Traveller is based on three brand pillars:

– Serenity: Offering an electrified powertrain for every model in the PEUGEOT range by 2023 – Pleasure: Uncompromising performance with driving pleasure in PEUGEOT’s DNA – Simplicity: Reassure our customers during the discovery phase and let them enjoy their car with complete peace of mind

Battery electric

Peugeot's e-Traveller Standard 50 kWh is a handsome MPV version of its fully electric  e-Expert van , sharing the same battery and motor. The seated configuration is heavier and means the MPV is slightly lower on range than the van, but the e-Traveller still has enough for numerous practical applications - and 100kW CCS rapid charging offers more flexibility for occasional longer trips.

Charging time for a Peugeot e-Traveller

The table below shows the estimated time to charge your e-Traveller from empty to full. For rapid charging, we show the time to charge from 20% - 80%, as charging tends to slow outside this range to protect the battery.

* Based on Pod Point estimates, charging time can differ based on the ambient temperature, the state of the battery (e.g. empty or half full) and variation in charging rate. Max charging rate may also be limited by the vehicle. ** Range per hour is the number of miles you can expect to get from an hour of charging at the relevant rate.

Connector type and charging rates

You can charge your Peugeot e-Traveller with a Type 2 connector at home, work or at a public charging point. There is also a CCS connector for rapid charging.

* Optional 11kW on-board charger available.

Where you can charge a Peugeot e-Traveller

You can charge your Peugeot e-Traveller conveniently at home, plug-in when you arrive at work or top up when you're out and about at locations including supermarkets and public car parks.

* Other charging options are also available, speak to our team for more information. ** Available for vehicles with either CCS or CHAdeMO connectors.

Cost of charging a Peugeot e-Traveller

The cost of charging your car will vary between home, work and public chargepoints (below are our estimates). Charging on the Pod Point Network can be accessed through the Pod Point App.

* Assumes tariff of 28p/kWh. The cost of home charging will vary depending on your electricity rate. ** Assumes tariff of 44p/kWh applicable to most network rapid chargers as of April 2022.

* For information on "WLTP" and more, please visit our Electric Vehicle Dictionary . ** Pod Point Confidence Range is the maximum distance we’d be confident driving on electric power between charges. Real range will depend on various factors including driving conditions, personal driving style, outside temperature, heating / air conditioning, etc.

Performance

Environmental impact.

* This metric estimates the environmental impact of driving your electric vehicle based on how the electricity that powers your car is generated. We take the average carbon intensity across the UK grid measured throughout 2021 to calculate the expected grams of CO 2 emitted per 1 km driven. The actual number will vary by region, when you charge (e.g. carbon intensity is usually lower overnight period) and whether your electricity comes from more renewable sources than the average.

Purchase, Tax & Grants

The Peugeot e-Traveller is only eligible for the EV chargepoint grant, but you will benefit from £0 road tax and £0 London Congestion Charge.

* On-the-road price including Plug-in Grant, if applicable.

* For further information including how to calculate personal BiK liabilities, please visit our Electric Car Tax guide .

* A £10 annual registration fee will still apply to each vehicle. ** For further information on London's Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ), please visit our ULEZ guide .

* Prices for vehicles are typically displayed with the Plug-in grant discount already applied. Home charging grants are dependent on status of the grant, and subject to eligibility requirements of the applicant as well as the vehicle.

The multi-function camera recognizes speed limit signs and alerts the driver of this limit on the instrument panel and/or on the head-up display. You can then enter this speed into your speed limiter or cruise control, if it is activated.

SMARTBEAM ASSISTANCE

Activated at night, this intelligent system automatically switches the headlights from main beam to dipped beam and vice-versa depending on other vehicles detected by the camera.

ACTIVE SAFETY BRAKE

The Active Safety Brake is an automatic emergency braking system that intervenes if it detects an imminent collision. The camera and radar can detect any mobile or stationary obstacles. Should the driver fail to brake, either sufficiently or at all, the system triggers the braking system instead of the driver. This ensures you avoid any impact if the speed is below 18mph or reduces the consequences of a collision whatever the vehicle’s speed.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM

This feature detects when the car crosses over white and broken lines unintentionally when the indicator has not been activated. The audible and visual warning is particularly useful in the event of drowsiness or a temporary loss of concentration from the driver.

BLIND SPOT MONITORING

Using 4 sensors on the front and back of your MPV, Blind Spot Monitoring alerts the driver, throughout the course of the journey, to the presence of a vehicle in their blind spot on both the right and left side of the car. A light signal appears in one of the outside mirrors and on the dashboard to warn the driver.

GRIP CONTROL

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM

The range and battery charge of the PEUGEOT e-Traveller lets you travel up to 148 miles according to the WLTP (Worldwide harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedures) certification protocol.
