Since I started using this app, I have travelled 1,482,337 miles. I LOVE this app. I travel a lot for work (and holidays) and being able to email my booking confirmations, private and work and have them all in one place is fantastic. It changed my travel routine. Rather then show up with a folder of different printed confirmations, it’s all laid out in one place. My wife and I share our itineraries and it’s great for family trips where we book different parts. Its like I have a brilliant assistant with programming knowledge. Just bring a battery pack for your phone after a long flight :-) I try hundreds of apps each year but after many years using this app it is still the most useful thing on my phone after the calendar and mail app. Seriously, I have emailed booking confirmations as PDF’s, word docs, email etc from some really funky airlines and it’s rarely missed a beat. My only suggestion to the developers to improve on perfection might be to tie in with one of the flight map apps so I can see on the plane which country I am flying over. Those guys have nothing like the capability you do, so a tie in could be cool. Thanks again for all the travel hassle you guys saved!

Favorite App

I travel often both for business and with my big family. This has been a game changer. Not to have to print out anything and have everything in order with added details on telephone numbers, weather, directions links. besides the ease of just forwarding play tickets, car rentals, hotel and flights, it takes a cruise itinerary and put some in the correct day saying where you’re going and when you get off to the ports and when you have to be back on the ship etc. So excellent. A side benefit I found now that I’ve been using it for 10 years is I have a whole travel journal right here in the app. Can look up previous hotels, miscellaneous companies used for transportation and whatever. Request for the developers: when I have a listing of flights etc. (particularly for more than one person), the apps at-a-glance screen does not have the name listed. So you have to go into that plan and scroll down and Click under passengers and in that page it’ll show you who the reservation is for. It would be much more convenient to have the name on the first or second line for a quick reference.

I adore TripIt - Sharing Trips with others needs work

I adore TripIt — I’ve been using it In some form or another since way back in 2008 - yikes I’m old! It really is effective in getting itinerary into one app and then integration into my device’s calendar is also great! I really like the auto import via a gmail account (usually the app has been focused on flying but I’m thrilled that the train itineraries are a bit better - especially Amtrak) I will say one area that really needs to be streamlined is sharing plans with non-TripIt users. In the app there are a few options, all of them not great. In the app, sharing a plan results in a mumbojumbo of unformatted texts, the iMessage feature doesn’t seem to be accessible to non TripIt users although they can see the thumbnail. I know inner circle can see plans but I think there needs to be a more streamlined process. What I do when sharing plans as a work around? I simply screenshot and message. Perhaps that’s all that needed in a future update! Anyway like the product some areas could’ve streamlined but this is definitely one of top three apps I use for travel!

Tax cuts still on table despite defence spending boost, suggests Sunak

PM says ‘strong plan’ for economy will fund fiscal commitments after unveiling an extra £75 billion for the military

Rishi Sunak has suggested further tax cuts remain on the table despite his Government’s plan to increase defence spending to 2.5 per cent of gross domestic product.

The Prime Minister argued that his “strong plan” for the UK economy and Civil Service cuts would allow him to go ahead with lowering taxes at future fiscal events.

On Wednesday, Mr Sunak unveiled the biggest boost to military spending in a generation, with £75 billion in new funding set to take the defence budget to £87 billion a year by the start of 2030.

At a press conference in Berlin alongside Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, he was asked whether further tax cuts were “off the table” to fund his commitments and whether possible cuts to public services were ahead.

He said: “Growth is returning, inflation is coming down, energy bills are coming down, wages are rising, and we’ve been able to do all these things. We have record investment in our public services, including the NHS – that’s not going to change, it’s going to continue to increase.

“Alongside that, we are able to cut people’s taxes – £900 tax cut for the average person in work, the state pension going up by £900. But we have made a choice, and I’m not shying away from that choice. All governing is about prioritising. I’ve decided to prioritise defence, because I think that’s the right thing to do for our country.”

The Prime Minister declined to speculate on spending commitments in the Tory manifesto at the next general election , widely expected to take place in the second half this year.

“What I am confident about is that if you have a strong plan for the economy, as we have, and that plan is working and we stick to that plan, we will be able to continue increasing defence spending. It’s a completely funded plan,” he said.

“We’ve got a very clear idea of how to reduce the Civil Service headcount, which has grown considerably over the last few years. We can bring that back and use that to fund what I announced yesterday , and alongside that continue to invest in public services and cut people’s taxes.”

Mr Sunak unveiled National Insurance cuts and reduced a number of business taxes at both the Autumn Statement and Spring Budget.

But stealth tax rises meant the nation’s tax burden still stood at a record £786.6 billion in 2022-23. It remains on course to hit a new post-war record next year, leading to calls from Tory critics for the Prime Minister and Jeremy Hunt , his Chancellor, to go further.

Meanwhile, Mr Sunak said the bond between the UK and Germany was “stronger than ever” amid intensifying global threats including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas war .

He told European countries they would have to increase defence spending to keep the US “committed” to Nato in the future, insisting Europe must take on more responsibility for its defence .

“It’s clear that the world we’re living in is increasingly dangerous and I described an axis of authoritarian states which increasingly are working together to cause instability around the world in a way that damages our security at home,” Mr Sunak added.

“I think it’s right that, in light of that, we realise that we need to do more… I do believe we’ll look back at this moment in time and realise that this is an inflection point where the old paradigm is no longer the case, and we have to adjust to a new paradigm.

“Defending our democracy and democratic processes and institutions is a priority, and we won’t tolerate any activity that undermines that.”
