Alexandra Daddario on the White Lotus Finale and Rachel’s Big Decision

A lexandra Daddario wasn’t expecting The White Lotus to be such a big hit. The actor, whose past credits include True Detective and the Percy Jackson series, was mostly just relieved to be working again when she booked a role on the HBO show in the midst of the pandemic. “Based on my experiences, I try not to have expectations in my line of work,” she says. “I was feeling a sort of panicked fear that a lot of us had—and then this show came along, and it was a pleasant surprise to be able to do something this incredible during lockdown.”

Audiences have agreed with her assessment. HBO’s The White Lotus , which follows an ostensibly idyllic week at an uber-expensive Hawaiian resort that quickly descends into macabre madness, has been one of the breakout TV hits of the summer. Fans have excitedly shared reactions and theories on social media after each installment, while critics have hailed Mike White’s show as one of the year’s best. TIME’s Judy Berman described it as “darkly hilarious” and “existentially terrifying,” and HBO recently picked up the show for a second season, which will follow a new cast of characters at a different resort.

On Sunday, the show’s first season finale aired and finally revealed the answer to the cliffhanger, introduced in the premiere and teased throughout the ensuing episodes, of who died at the resort. Daddario’s character Rachel, meanwhile, made a heartbreaking decision about her future. TIME talked to the actor about that scene, going toe-to-toe with Connie Britton and being intimidated by Gen Z . Here are excerpts from the conversation; spoilers for The White Lotus abound.

TIME: There have been so many theories online about who gets killed at the end of The White Lotus . When you were first reading the script, did you fear that Rachel was going to be axed?

Daddario: I don’t even remember what I thought: I think that I was so lost in the story and my relationship with other characters. I probably was like, ‘Oh, I wonder who dies—but it’s almost too obvious to be me.’

Was there a detail about Rachel that helped you unlock her character?

I wanted to unlock how trapped she really feels. I feel confident in where I am in my life and career in a lot of ways. But you know, that’s always a slippery slope, especially when, as an actor, you don’t know what your next job is going to be. So it was really unlocking that this is someone in her 30s who really hasn’t achieved the success that she wants and can’t stand on her own two feet in her career. She got caught up in something that felt more meaningful than what she was doing, while really not getting in touch with how she got into this relationship in the first place.

Rachel has an excruciating relationship with her new husband, Shane ( Jake Lacy ). Have you met many versions of Shane in the world?

Yes. It’s more complex than just, ‘Oh, this guy’s a douchebag.’ Something really interesting about Shane is that in any conversation where I’m coming to him with something emotional, or something that contradicts his view of the world, he just walks away or gets angry. That’s something I’ve definitely encountered. And I don’t want to say men specifically, but I certainly do know men where it’s just: ‘This is my view of the world, this is the way it’s supposed to be, I can’t handle what you are feeling. Therefore, I’m angry. And I’m getting out of the situation until you come around and be what I want you to be.’

It’s always fun to see journalists portrayed onscreen, even in depictions as bleak as this one. Having been on the other end of countless junkets over your career, did this role help you better understand or empathize with mid- or low-level journalists?

It definitely made me think about what that life is like. I’ve been in junkets where these people have been waiting for however long to speak to us, then they come in and get five minutes. And if actors are long-winded—as I have the tendency to be at times—you can really only get in two questions and then they rush you through.

I also think it’s so brilliant that Rachel is not that good at what she does. She’s kind of self-aware about that. She’s doing what she calls clickbait pieces and has been getting really discouraged that she hasn’t been able to break out this way of making money. I can imagine it’s very frustrating.

A few aspects of Rachel’s character have been closely scrutinized on Twitter: the book she’s reading (Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend ) and her Goyard bag. What was the meaning behind those items?

I need a dramaturgical explanation for Rachel's Goyard bag. That feels incongruous with her discomforts around being a "trophy wife"...not only is that bag a trophy wife status symbol but so incredibly outside of her price range I don't see her accepting it easily. #whitelotus pic.twitter.com/2SbDkLaw96 — Jeremy O. Harris (@jeremyoharris) August 5, 2021

No, it’s so funny because someone else sent me a thread about the Goyard bag, and I didn’t know what a Goyard bag was. These are props that were put in my hand, and no one told me, ‘You’re reading this because the metaphor is blah, blah, blah,’ or ‘You’re holding this very expensive status symbol purse because x, y, z.’ My focus as an actress is so much on the character and where I’m at. That brilliance entirely lies in the prop department, Mike White, or whoever made those decisions.

Rachel has some incredibly awkward face-offs with other characters, including Nicole (Connie Britton), Olivia (Sydney Sweeney) and Paula (Brittany O’Grady). What was it like shooting those scenes?

Amazing. Part of the reason I’m an actress is that there’s some part of me that enjoys feeling things that are maybe uncomfortable. Especially with someone like Connie Britton: being in the scene, being intimidated and reacting off each other, I enjoy that experience. Like, wow, this person can get into character to the degree to make me feel this awkward—and that translated to people telling me how uncomfortable that scene is.

And with my scenes with Sydney and Brittany: I’m 35, and am at the point that when I’m with 23-year olds, I revert to being a teenager. It’s that need to be accepted. These college kids are making me feel so small to the degree that I have to go and show off to make myself feel better. And there’s definitely that dynamic in real life between millennials and Gen Z: not really understanding each other, and being sort of close in age but really having such different experiences.

In the final moments of the finale, Rachel decides to reconcile with Shane. What did you think of that decision?

The decision made a lot of sense to me, because she is completely trapped. I think that she’s probably had some rough stuff happen to her that sort of made her feel unable to leave. And she’s not self-aware enough to admit, until the final episode, why she really got into this relationship.

And I think that there’s this fear aspect. That self doubt and insecurity, and sort of the repercussions of being told that she’s just hot her whole life, has just made her afraid that she doesn’t have anything else.

Your final lines are devastating: “Everything’s fine. I’m happy, I promise. I’ll be happy.” How did you approach those lines?

I had experienced in my life, on more than one occasion, a huge pressure to be happy. Being unhappy with something or someone else’s behavior is a lot of pressure for other people. In this situation, she is being told by his mother and by him, ‘What is there to be unhappy about?’

And her reasons to be unhappy are completely legitimate. But on paper, she doesn’t feel like she has a reason. Her job now is to be happy and to make this man happy. And there’s such a deep sadness in that and not being true to yourself.

I don’t think it’s going to turn out very well for her. But I’ve definitely felt that before where you bounce around, trying to be happy for somebody else who really isn’t listening to why you’re really unhappy. There’s so much solace in being heard: just having your partner listen and understand. But there’s none of that in this relationship. So I think she’s relinquishing herself to this life of, ‘I’m going to pretend to be O.K., because if I ever express my real feelings, then everything goes to sh-t.’

What advice would you have given to Rachel in that moment?

I mean, the advice is to walk away. But like all things in life, it’s complicated. In her head, I don’t think she ever was going to walk away; Maybe eventually, but she’s just not ready at the moment. So I’m not sure what advice I’d give Rachel. Like anything, she just has to go through it on our own.

The adaptation of Mason Deaver’s YA novel I Wish You All the Best (IWYATB) has officially set its first cast member! Deadline revealed that Alexandra Daddario ( The White Lotus ) is set to star in the upcoming movie. According to Deaver , Daddario will play Hannah.

IWYATB centers on non-binary teen Benjamin De Backer. After being rejected and kicked out of the house by their parents, Ben goes to live with their estranged sister Hannah and her husband Thomas. Though Ben is in a better home environment, they struggle to cope with anxiety that’s exacerbated by the rejection. As such, Ben tries to keep a low profile at school. But when they meet Nathan, things begin to change for the better as the two become closer.

The book first released in 2019 and has since been a beacon for readers who identified with Ben. It was named one of the best 2019 books by publications like Autostraddle, Book Riot, and more, with additional praise from NPR and more. The following year, Deaver released a novella titled I’ll Be Home for Christmas set after the events of IWYATB.

IWYATB is written, directed, and produced by Tommy Dorfman ( Thirteen Reasons Why ). The movie will mark both her feature writing and directorial debuts. ACE Entertainment’s Matt Kaplan will produce, with Aubrey Bendix and Braden Bochner overseeing the project for the studio. James Harris executive produces for TeaShop Films.

Alexandra Daddario

Alexandra Daddario Headshot

Birth Name: Alexandra Anna Daddario

Birth date: march 16, 1986, age: 38 years old, birth place: new york, new york, siblings: matthew daddario.

IMDB

It's a long way from dreaming about being Cosette in "Les Miserables" to starring in a big-budget studio franchise, but Alexandra Daddario had the talent and drive to make her dreams come true. The native New Yorker honed her skills at the Professional Children's School but didn't land her first role until she was 16, when she was cast as rebellious teen Laurie Lewis on "All My Children" (ABC, 1970-2011; TOLN 2013- ). Back-to-back supporting roles in Noah Baumbach's bitter Brooklyn drama "The Squid and the Whale" (2005) and Ethan Hawke's directorial debut "The Hottest State" (2006) provided small but memorable showcases, and led to her recurring role on the cable procedural "White Collar" (USA, 2009-14). In 2010 the striking actress beat out hundreds of other young hopefuls for the role of demigod Annabeth in "Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief," based on author Rick Riordan's popular fantasy adventure series. After detours into comedy (the Farrelly Brothers' 2011 "Hall Pass") and music (Imagine Dragons' 2012 video for "Radioactive"), Daddario surfaced in "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" (2013) and "Texas Chainsaw 3D" (2013). Versatile and ambitious, Alexandra Daddario was on the verge of something great.

Born at the tail end of the '80s to two New York City lawyers, Daddario was attracted to the theater from a young age. She grew up going to Broadway shows - by her account she saw "Les Miserables" no less than a dozen times - and sang along to Ariel's watery warbling in "The Little Mermaid" (1989). After switching from The Brearley School, a private girls-only school on Manhattan's Upper East Side, to the Professional Children's School, Daddario began to realize that since her singing talents were marginal, acting might be a better option. Her studying paid off when she landed her first role in 2002 on "All My Children" as Laurie Lewis, the requisite troubled teen that parties to forget her past. After appearing in over 40 episodes of the long-running soap, Daddario left the show in 2003 and laid low for two years before briefly popping up in "The Squid and The Whale" and "The Hottest State." Though neither movie gave her more than a scene or two, Daddario's model looks and intriguing talent were enough to propel her into a steady stream of film and TV appearances, including a 2009 stint on "White Collar." The start of a new decade brought Daddario's burgeoning career to new heights. Despite being a self-professed 'fraidy cat (she claimed to be barely able to sit through Vin Diesel's 2000 movie, "Pitch Black"), Daddario landed her screams on cue in her first horror movie, the slasher flick "Bereavement" (2010). Her next film, "Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief," offered two other firsts leading role and first franchise. In the film, which was adapted from the successful young adult series, Daddario portrayed the resourceful, intelligent Annabeth Chase, demigod daughter of the goddess Athena. Though the CGI-heavy film grossed just $95 million in the United States, its worldwide haul of $226 million led to the less-successful "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters." Having added horror and fantasy to her resume, Daddario took on comedy as an amorous babysitter in "Hall Pass," starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as two bored husbands whose wives give them free reign for one week. The adaptable Daddario later appeared as a puppet-bearing drifter in the music video for "Radioactive," the hit song by alternative rockers Imagine Dragons, and portrayed a long-lost cousin of Leatherface in "Texas Chainsaw 3D."

We Summon the Darkness Star Alexandra Daddario Discusses the Joy of Going Insane Onscreen

Portrait of Jordan Crucchiola

Since breaking out in the family friendly Percy Jackson movies in 2010, Alexandra Daddario has been saved from the ravages of a megaquake by The Rock in San Andreas , helped save a beach town with The Rock in Baywatch , and appeared as many a knockout love interest in assorted romantic comedies. She has also, among the horror fans, become a cult-favorite leading lady. She charmed opposite Anton Yelchin in the undead comedy Burying the Ex . She took her place in the Final Girl pantheon after starring in 2013’s Texas Chainsaw 3D , and co-starred in last year’s acclaimed adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle . Now, she is producing and starring in one of this year’s indie genre gems, We Summon the Darkness.

“We set out to make something really fun, and I feel that we really did what we wanted to do with the film,” says Daddario. “It’s a weird time to be promoting a film, but if you’re sitting around and watching movies, I do think it’s a good time.” If you can handle a little bit of blood in your movies — okay, more like a lot of blood — We Summon the Darkness is a Satanic panic throwback flick to distract you in these bleak times. In it, Daddario plays Alexis, the leader of a small girl gang who goes to a death-metal concert, picks up a group of leather-clad boys, and takes them home for a night of debauchery. But We Summon the Darkness isn’t about sexy time so much as it ritual murder, and the people behind an unsolved string of occult killings are about to reveal themselves. With both parties in pandemic-induced isolation, Vulture spoke to Daddario over the phone ahead of her movie’s VOD release about playing the girl “that everyone falls in love with,” and the joys of going insane onscreen.

Tell me about pivoting to a more devious kind of character than we typically get to see you play. I’d worked with the writer Alan Trezza before on Burying the Ex. That was also a sort of horror-comedy. He knows how to write characters like this, and he actually writes women really well. I enjoyed the people I worked with [on that movie] and wanted to work with that team again. The character in [ We Summon the Darkness ] is just a ton of fun and totally off her rocker. All the actors put so much effort into not being judgmental and into trying all different kinds of things; I got to explore a different side of myself. There’s a lot of freedom in playing someone who isn’t perfect, and it allows for a lot of nuanced silliness.

And what was that new side of yourself? I think some of the other characters I’ve played — they’re more polished. A lot of movies I do, or started my career doing, were bigger, with green screens, and it was very specific where you stood, how you stood, how you looked. I’ve even had directors tell me — because I tend to sometimes look a little wild, because my eyes are so blue — “You have to make them smaller.” In this case, to just be wild and not think that much about what I really looked like. The point was to be a little bit off-kilter. That was really fun, to not have to think about looking perfect.

One of the things I enjoyed so much about your performance here is how it sort of exists in conversation with other roles you’ve had. You’ve played a variety of triumphant horror heroines and the very desired female lead in rom-coms, and that turns your We Summon the Darkness character into almost a comment on those previous iterations of you. It uses the tropes that defined what you’ve done before as a means of subverting what both the audience and the other people in the movie expect of you. Is something that you were cognizant of? That’s not actually an observation I’ve vocalized. I think subconsciously it’s probably there, and Allen I’m sure had that very clearly planned out as he was writing it, but yeah. It is freeing in a way to just go and be like, “Hey, fuck it! I’m just gonna be wild, and the point isn’t to make people like me.” The point is to just be a little whatever, and whatever isn’t a very descriptive word, but I’m saying it in a loud voice! You know, it is nice to not be, at the end of the day, the one who’s perfect and who everyone falls in love with — although I do enjoy that as well.

Both your character and Maddie Hasson’s character are very aware of their sex appeal in Darkness , and like you said, they’re fully exploiting this idea that they have to get what they want out of these men they meet. Going off of what you said about playing the girl that everyone falls in love with — like recently in We Have Always Lived in the Castle or Why Women Kill — you’ve played multiple characters where there’s an overt narrative acknowledgement of your beauty. This movie weaponizes that same acknowledgement on your character’s behalf and lets her leverage it in joyfully deranged ways. Tell me about playing around with that sort of meta-awareness. I honestly didn’t overtly think about that, but you bringing up We Have Always Lived in the Castle is a very interesting comparison. I mean, women have been using their looks and their sex appeal and whatever else they have since the beginning of time to gain power in a world in which men and women are totally unequal. So it’s not new, but [my character] Constance does not do that and is unable to do that, and she’s sort of falling victim to this patriarchal world. In [ We Summon the Darkness ], you’re right, this character is using what she has to do something that she believes in, however misguided. These kids don’t even really know what they’re doing. It’s not planned out well. They’re not masterminds, but she’s still convinced herself that she is right and she’s using what she has. She knows it’s going to work.

You have a long enough filmography at this point for your roles to be commenting on one another, and now you’re also producing. I’m a producer on this, and a lot of the time what that means is … it’s like you’re bringing the financing and then you have more say. So I’m slowly building up. I’m good at knowing where I can step in and where I need to step up.

What is the ideal career path for you?   You know, I’m a little scrappy and I tend to go on instinct. I’m also constantly amazed in this business that I have a career at all. So, there’s an element of fear that plays into all of my choices, although I’ve gotten better with that over the years. At a point, I wanted to work with certain people, and I think now it’s about a character and it’s about a director. I really believe in the importance of having a strong director and even a strong production team behind you. I don’t think about, “Oh, I did this, now I’m going to do that.” For me, I would do three genre pieces in a row and my team might say, “Look, we just did this horror film,” but if it was three directors that I really love, I wouldn’t have a problem with that. I sort of treat everything individually, which, I don’t know if that maybe hasn’t always worked out that well for me.

What is your relationship at this point in your career with that fear you mentioned?  I mean, it seems very strange in this current environment — especially when you have medical workers and postal workers and people going to work every day trying to keep this country running who are putting themselves in danger — to speak about fear in a career where it’s just acting. But I will say, I’ve been doing this since I was 12, and I had quite a tumultuous adolescence for a variety of reasons. I think that this is a tough business, to constantly be worried about where your next paycheck is coming from. And look, I’ve had a lot more success in the last four years than I had in previous iterations of my career. I do think that fear can be a motivator. It can either freeze you or motivate you, and I think that there’s a double-edged sword to a lot of that. I’m incredibly hard-working, which means sometimes I make the wrong decisions or I constantly feel the need to work. But I feel really lucky, and I feel like everything you do teaches you something and leads you to the next point. From the time I was 16 till now, it’s almost 20 years later, and I am more resilient to that up and down sort of career in the acting business. I know that there’s a lot of other professions with more fear at the moment, so it does seem strange to say.

Alexandra Daddario and Nashville actor Keean Johnson are set to star in We Summon the Darkness , a horror thriller to be directed by Marc Meyers ( My Friend Dahmer ).

Maddie Hasson ( Impulse , Novitiate ), Logan Miller ( Love, Simon ), Amy Forsyth ( Beautiful Boy ) and Austin Swift are also on the call sheet for the movie, which began shooting this week in Winnipeg.

The script, by Alan Trezza, is set in the Midwest against a backdrop involving a killing spree thought to be orchestrated by a satanic cult. Three best friends embark on a road trip to a heavy-metal show, where they bond with three aspiring musicians and head off to one of the girls’ country home for an afterparty. A night of fun and youthful debauchery takes a deadly turn as bodies begin to pile up, with each side thinking the other hides the killer.

Daddario will play the girls’ leader who invites the group of boys to her parents’ estate.

Robert Jones, James Harris and Mark Lane, who produced the horror hits 47 Meters Down and The Strangers: Prey at Night, are producing and financing the project via their banner The Fyzz.

Also producing are Magna Entertainment, with Kyle Tekiela ( Mudbound)  and Jarod Einsohn of Common Enemy, Christian Armogida of Nightshade Entertainment and Thomas E van Dell of Iconic Media One.

Andrew Kotliar, Elizabeth Zavoyskiy, Joshua Sason, Rebecca Schaper, Lee Broda, Mike Donavan, Eytan Rockaway, Robert Girard and Trezza are executive producing. Jody Girgenti (My Friend Dahmer) is co-producing.

Highland Film Group will introduce We Summon the Darkness to buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

Meyers is best known for 2017’s My Friend   Dahmer , an adaptation of a graphic novel starring Ross Lynch. The well-received movie opened doors for the filmmaker, with Meyers currently developing the dramatic comedy All My Life for Universal. He is repped by UTA, Aperture Entertainment and Bloom Hergott.

Daddario appeared with Dwayne Johnson in the films Baywatch and San Andreas, and will next star in the mystery thriller We Have Always Lived In the Castle, an adaptation of the Shirley Jackson novel that also stars Sebastian Stan and Taissa Farmiga.

Keean Johnson, who appeared on TV’s The Fosters and Nashville , will next be seen in Robert Rodriguez’s  Alita: Battle Angel , which Fox will bow in December. The actor, who also will be seen in RZA’s Cut Throat City , is set to appear in Roland Emmerich’s World War II naval drama  Midway alongside Woody Harrelson, Patrick Wilson and Aaron Eckhart

Daddario is repped by UTA and Untitled Entertainment, while Johnson is with CAA and Management 360. Meyers is repped by UTA and Aperture Entertainment.

Baywatch movie casts alexandra daddario as the female lead.

The Baywatch film reboot continues to shape its cast, with Alexandra Daddario set to reunite with her San Andreas costar, Dwayne Johnson.

Iconic TV shows from decades gone by have become a tried and true source of inspiration for Hollywood reboots. Following the critical success of the 21 Jump Street franchise , we will soon receive another irreverent take on another beloved series: Baywatch .

Dwayne Johnson ( Furious 7 ) and Zac Efron ( Neighbors ) have already been confirmed to appear in the film, but now it seems the female side of the film's cast has begun to take shape. Today Johnson officially announced that Baywatch has brought on Alexandra Daddario (who costarred with The Rock in  San Andreas ) to play the female lead.

Johnson posted the announcement to his Instagram account, announcing that Daddario has officially been tapped to portray a character named Summer. The Rock didn't elaborate too much beyond that (see his message below), but it sounds as though Daddario's Summer may be Roberta "Summer" Quinn -- previously portrayed by Nicole Eggert -- from the original Baywatch  TV series; either that or someone named in honor of Eggert's original character.

IT'S OFFICIAL: Want to welcome the talented and gorgeous @alexannadaddario to the cast of #BAYWATCH for the role of "Summer". Alex is a one of kind woman (I know from experience) and can't wait for you guys to see her own the role. The female roles of #BAYWATCH have become extremely hot properties around Hollywood and as promised, the quality women we'll cast are stepping into these roles to have fun and make them iconic for the world to enjoy. The #BaywatchFamily so far consists of a tatted up bald guy named Rock, the cool, yet extremely unattractive @zacefron, the talented and gorgeous Alexandra Daddario...and some big casting announcements coming soon. And juuuuust wait til you guys see who we cast for the iconic role of "CJ Parker".... #CueSlowMotionRunningDownTheBeach #WhosPuttingTanningOilOnMyBack? #GetReadyForSomeFunInTheSun #BAYWATCH A photo posted by therock (@therock) on Nov 18, 2015 at 8:24am PST

While Daddario is the first female lead to be cast in the upcoming Baywatch reboot, Johnson makes it clear in his post that she is not the only one to look out for. In addition to Daddario, he teases the upcoming announcement of an actress being brought in to take on the iconic role of C.J Parker. Fans of the original Baywatch series will recognize that name as they character portrayed by Pamela Anderson -- whose slow motion running made the show an instant hit with audiences.

The casting of Daddario comes as the third major Baywatch announcement -- following the casting of Johnson and Efron. Johnson's character in the film is reported to be a by the book type, while Efron will portray a "hothead" type. Daddario and Johnson played daughter and father, respectively, in San Andreas . There's no word yet on their characters' relationship in Baywatch , but they could well play a daughter/father duo yet again.

Of course,  Baywatch is not San Andrea ; the upcoming reboot will seemingly lean much more towards raunchy comedy than straight-forward action. Efron and Johnson have proven pedigrees in comedic roles, but Daddario has spent the bulk of her fledgling career taking on more dramatic roles. Whether or not she can cut it remains to be seen, but Johnson seems to have faith in her ability to nail the role.

We’ll bring you more information on Baywatch as it becomes available.

Alexandra Daddario On Finally Embracing Her Own Style With Sheer Looks And More: 'It Took Me A Long Time To Get Comfortable'

She's certainly on the cutting edge now.

Alexandra Daddario has been a fashion it-girl for some time now, transitioning from a Baywatch swimsuit that nabbed the public’s attention to endearing and often daring red carpet dresses. Even when she isn’t promoting projects like The White Lotus or The Witches of Mayfair, she's frequently seen at events like the Emmys in sheer dresses , or on one memorable occasion, a dress her mom said showed “too much sideboob. ”

Mom may think some of her looks are a little much, but the film and television actress generally looks confident in whatever she chooses to wear. It’s one of the reasons she’s become such a style icon; however, she candidly admitted things weren’t always this way. In fact, early in her career she felt she didn't have her own point of view.

The thing is, style is really about what you love. When you're younger, you always wanna follow everyone. As I've gotten older, I've really been able to embrace what I feel great in and that's really cool. It took me a long time to get comfortable doing that.

I'm sure everyone feels a little cringe thinking about their former fashion taste years later, particularly given styles change and look dated after a time. Still, I do remember one printed dress with a somewhat asymmetrical hemline that Daddario wore to a Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief premiere that stood out at the time and looks unlike anything she would ever wear now. It was definitely trendy when she wore it, but it doesn't have the glam factor, the fitted look, or the luxe fabric she typically favors these days.

As she said, she's evolved and her fashion has evolved too.

Alexandra Daddario early fashion look at Percy Jackson premiere.

She told People at a TAG Heuer event that her youth was a bit misspent in other people's fashion ideas, though I think chasing trends when one is younger is something even most fashionistas can identify with. It takes time to develop a signature style. It takes even more time to get comfortable with showing yourself publicly when all the makeup comes off, as Daddario has done.

So, what helped her to gain the confidence to "embrace" what she feels great in?

Gratitude, counting your blessings and being positive about where you're at [helped me]. We're in a culture where we're constantly comparing ourselves to where other people are. Once you find that power and meditation on your gratitude, I think that’s really what makes you feel confident.

The actress has been a bit quiet on the fashion front since the Oscars winners were announced earlier this year. Though this month she did attend a Dior show alongside Rachel Zegler , Michelle Williams , Alexandra Shipp and more. However, with Mayfair Witches Season 2 coming (presumably) later this year, there should be more red carpet fun to come.
