Latin america, annapurna singletrack circuit, about this cycle tour.

No other destination comes close to a religious experience for mountain bikers than the Nepalese Himalaya. Miles of pure, undulating singletrack and some of the best downhill stretches in the world all surrounded by the world's tallest peaks- it's hard to find a destination that compares. Have the ultimate mountain bike experience as you experience the Annapurna Circuit by mountain bike.

Touching down in Kathmandu, the journey begins as you head westward to the Annapurna foothills, where you'll begin the ride. Even before the air starts to thin, the trails through the lower Himalaya are fast, steep, and flowy. Pushing higher, we'll ride alongside trekkers and herds of yak on centuries-old paths through mountainside Sherpa villages. The trip reaches its peak at Thorong La, the highest pass of the Annapurna circuit at 5,416 meters, and a bucket list ride down if there ever was one.

For mountain bikers looking for the ultimate point to point singletrack ride, you've come to the right destination. Descents will be hard-earned and your body will be tested in the harsh environment of the world's tallest mountain bike playground. The views, the journey, and the raw experience will make all of it worth it.

Activity Profile

What's included, what's excluded, trip profile.

This bike tour is true classic with Himalayan mountain passes, sweeping descents, magnificent views, clean air, and abundant culture and history in one of the most secluded countries in the world. The total distance is around 789 km in eleven full and two half days of riding. The riding varies between some easier shorter days and some challenging days due to the altitude and gradients involved.

This tour is a mountain biker's dream, with almost all of the route on singletrack. There will be fast, technical descents, long, flowy sections and even some steep surprises where you'll have to get off and push. Daily distances aren't long, but aggressive terrain and high altitude will mean some long days in the saddle and a high degree of physical challenge. Mountain biking at such a high altitude is taxing, and the first several days will be slow, with a built in rest day to acclimatize.

We'll stay in the region's famous teahouses, which are rugged and traditional, but comfortable. Understand that in the highest mountains on earth, all the amenities aren't always available. However, you'll be warm, well-fed, well-rested and can even find a cold beer at the end of the ride!

Unparalleled mountain biking in out-of-this-world scenery make for a true adventure you will remember for the rest of your life.

Suitability: This is a high-altitude mountain biking expedition. While we start out below 2,000 meters, we will be riding at over 3,000 and 4,000 meters on some days. Riders must have a high level of fitness, and be able to handle the rigor of challenging physical activity- riding steep terrain, pushing the bike- at very high elevations. Incredibly demanding terrain requires advanced handling skills and experience riding singletrack on blue and black level trails.

Biking Conditions: This tour is primarily on singletrack, with a few short sections of double track and dirt roads. Expect steep, rocky trails with plenty of obstacles and variable surfaces as you climb higher and through different ecozones and soil types. Some sections might require pushing, and porters will assist us with carrying bikes over Thorong La, which is well over 5,000 meters.

Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu

Our guide will collect you at Tibhuvan International Airport and transfer you to your accommodation in the lively Kathmandu neighborhood of Thamel. Depending on arrival time, you can spend the afternoon exploring the sights of the city, shopping in Kathmandu's many adventure supply stores, or relaxing for the trip ahead. In the afternoon, we'll fit our bikes and prepare for the trip ahead!

Day 2 Kathmandu to Besisahar

An early start to the day, where we'll enjoy some Himalayan-grown coffee before heading out on the 6 hour drive to Besisahar. Outside of busy Kathmandu, we'll get to see the beautiful countryside of Nepal. with it's many green, terraced fields, and there will be time to enjoy the views and have lunch. Once in Besisahar, we'll begin preparing for the next day's ride, as well as meeting our local porters for the trip. We'll have our first welcome dinner and overnight in a cozy teahouse, the first of many on the trip!

Day 3 Besisahar to Tal

After breakfast, it's time to set out on our first day of riding. Fresh out of Besisahar and finally onto some real Himalayan singletrack! We'll begin to whittle away at the 1,000 meters of climbing for the day. Our path takes us along the Marsyandi River, and though we're not yet in the highest altitude section of the trip, the views are simply beautiful. We'll arrive in Tal, situated in a deep gorge, and surrounded by terraced farms perched impossibly on the steep slopes of Himalayan foothills. Our overnight is in another local teahouse, where we'll refuel and keep warm.

annapurna bike tour

Day 4 Tal to Chame

It wouldn't be a the Himalaya if there was no climbing, and today is no exception as we work our way up. The elevation in Chame, our destination for the day, puts us within the "high altitude" category, of over 2,500 meters. This is one to take slowly, and let your body adjust. Today's route is challenging; with steep uphills on rugged singletrack. Thick jungle surrounds us, interspersed with views of the river. So rests to catch your breath and take in the views are well worth it! We'll overnight in the village of Chame, a key spot on the Annapurna trekking circuit, and we'll be in the company of trekkers and local Sherpa.

annapurna bike tour

Day 5 Chame to Manang

A beautiful ride today, as we climb higher into the Annapurna region, to the village of Manang. Our track widens as the environment changes from jungle to arid alpine and we finally get the sense of being in the high Himalaya. The ride isn't too technical, but the surface can be soft in some places with loose rock. Combined with the rapidly rising altitude, it's a good idea to take things slow today. At over 3,600 meters, Manang is well beyond high altitude, and we'll feel the effects as we cycle. We'll overnight and acclimatize in a cozy trekking teahouse.

annapurna bike tour

Day 6 Manang Rest and Acclimitization Day

Today's rest and acclimatization day couldn't be in a better spot. The village of Manang is well-equipped for a cozy rest day with coffee shops and even a movie theater, for those looking to take it easy before the ride ahead. If you're feeling adventurous, there are several short side hikes in the area that will offer breathtaking Himalayan views and help acclimatize to the altitude. Manang is home to the Manangi people, who thrive in the high altitude environment. Lucky travelers get a chance to watch the locals participate in the ancient sports of archery and pony racing. We'll spend another restful evening in a local teahouse, fueling up for another big day.

Day 7 Manang to Thorong Phedi

Bidding goodbye to Manang, our course points us higher again. We'll take the ride slow, through the village of Yak Kharka, and further to Thorong Phedi, the base camp of mighty Thorong La, at just under 5,000 meters. The trail runs along a small river valley and is mostly rideable, but very rocky in some sections, where carrying will be necessary. It's best to take this section slowly, as the terrain is loose and prone to sliding. Our expert guide will help you navigate the trail safely as we pass difficult sections along with plenty of local foot-and hoof- traffic. Overnight in a teahouse in Thorong Pedi, where we'll dine heartily after a hard days ride. It's best to get to bed early to get enough rest before the big climb on the following day.

annapurna bike tour

Day 8 Thorong La

Rise very early to set out for Thorong La at 5 AM. This is the Annapurna Circuit's most famous high altitude pass, and the most challenging part of our ride. To reach the top of the pass, more than 1,300 meters from Thorong Phedi, will require several steady hours of pushing in the cold and high altitude. We'll have assistance from local porters, who will carry our bikes for us, but the climb is still a long slog that will test our spirits. Once at the top, at 5,416 meters, we'll take in the view from both sides, a jaw dropping forest of snowy peaks that stretch beyond our line of sight. After that comes the real reward- a superb and technical downhill all the way to our rest at the end of the day in the village Muktinath. We'll share stories of the day's ride over a hearty Himalayan feast.

annapurna bike tour

Day 9 Lupra Valley

With the most challenging part of the trip behind us, it's on to some fun! Now that we're primarily losing elevation, we can go much further and we'll cover more ground today than in the past several days combined! We head out of Muktinath, traversing a small hillside trail that's mildly technical. There will be a few sections of push, followed by fun and fast singletrack switch backs all the way down to a valley riverbed. We'll rejoin the main trail in Jomsom and enjoy some tough riding, but with great views, all the way to the lovely traditional village of Tukuche. We'll have some time to enjoy Tukuche, before pressing on further down to Kalopani via a lush jungle singletrack. Overnight in Kalopani after a thoroughly action-packed day!

annapurna bike tour

Day 10 Kalopani to Pokhara

Another day of descending, we'll start off along a riverside trail with great views of snow-capped peaks. The river trail passes the impressive Rupse Waterfalls, where we can stop for a tea break near the mist. Gear up for the next section, a swift descent as the trail loses over 1,000 meters on a winding, rocky track with exciting jumps and drops. We ride all the way into the village of Beni, where we'll have some lunch and then load up the bikes for a 3-hour drive into Pokhara, Nepal's second largest city and a great place for relaxing and unwinding after a long trek. Overnight in Pokhara.

annapurna bike tour

Day 11 Transfer to Kathmandu

Sleep in or enjoy the sights of Pokhara in the morning. This laid back city is a haven for trekkers, and is home to many cozy coffee shops, restaurants, and boutiques, as well as local culture like temples. In the mid-afternoon, we'll head back to Kathmandu via a short flight. Once in Kathmandu, we'll have time to relax over one last cup of chai or do some last minute souvenir shopping, before regrouping for a farewell dinner.

Day 12 Departure

In the morning, we'll transfer you to the airport to catch your flight out of Nepal. Or if you'd like to extend your stay, we'll help you prolong your cycling adventure with more travel arrangements.

Disclaimer: The adventure cycling tours we operate often go beyond the beaten track, and the countries where we ride are not always predictable. Due to these reasons, it is occasionally necessary to reroute or update itineraries. Our guarantee is that we will not change a trip unless for safety or to improve it. Our listed hotels are always accurate at the time of writing, but should we have to change any hotel, it will always be for a similar or better one.

Nuts & Bolts

Because some people can't imagine going on a trip without their own beloved bicycle, we do not provide them as part of this tour. However, you can hire bikes locally for the price listed in the tour pricing section.

If you bring your own bike, please make sure it is a mountain bike, preferably with full suspension in good mechanical order.

Bike Repairs

Basic spares and tools are carried by the guide and on the support vehicle, though we cannot guarantee having spares for every conceivable problem. Carrying a basic tool kit, a spare tube and a pump while riding is recommended.

Wearing a helmet is required on all our biking adventures and is non negotiable. If you do not wear a helmet you will not be allowed to cycle. Your tour leader is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree you must be responsible for your own safety while riding. It is therefore compulsory that you take out travel insurance that will cover you for a mountain biking tour.

You will be led by a local English-speaking guide and if the group is 9 people or more we will add another guide to the tour. All our guides are well informed in the history, culture and religions of the area where you are biking and are skilled at passing that knowledge on to you. Your guide is also medically trained and an experienced cyclist, able to handle most minor repairs en route.

The Nitty Gritty

Passports and visas.

There are no compulsory vaccinations although it is strongly recommended that you are vaccinated against: Typhoid; Hepatitis A and B. Tetanus and polio vaccinations should also be up to date at the time of travel. If you have come from an area infected with yellow fever you are required to be vaccinated before entering the country. Please speak to your doctor/physician for the most recent information.

Temperatures and climate vary according to the altitude. Nepal has two seasons – the dry season runs from October to May and the wet (monsoon) season from June to September, when 80% of the rain falls. Nepal’s weather is generally predictable and pleasant with March to May (spring) and September to November (autumn) being the best times to visit. The Kathmandu Valley, at an altitude of 1,310 m/ 4,297 ft, has a mild climate, ranging from 19-27ºC/67-81ºF in summer, and 2-20ºC /36-68ºF in winter. Come prepared for chilly evenings and bring proper gear for brisk early morning starts and descents.

Accommodation

For trips in the Himalaya, accommodation is limited to local guesthouses, or “teahouses.” Himalayan teahouses are simple, family-run operations that provide full room and board for guests. Due to the remote location of the high Himalaya, and the fact that all supplies must be carried in on foot, facilities are basic. Nearly all rooms are twin share, with shared toilet and bathing facilities throughout the guesthouse. Hot water usually must be prepared in advance.

Meals are served in the main common area of the teahouse, usually heated by a wood (or dung) stove. Travelers can usually charge devices in the common area, as rooms are not equipped with power outlets.

Rooms are not heated, but we’ll provide 4 season sleeping bags to keep you toasty during the cold mountain nights!

Meals are included in the itinerary as B = breakfast, L = lunch, and D = dinner. Camping meals will be prepared by the cook team and feature Nepali and Western-style cuisine. Any special dietary requirements can also be catered for as well. Please let us know at the time of booking.

Keeping you completely hydrated is a job we take very seriously. Cold water and energy-restoring drinks are included in the tour price. Soft drinks and other beverages during meals are not included. Beer and alcohol are NOT included in the price.

Solo Travelers

SpiceRoads does not require you to pay a surcharge for travelling alone. We will arrange for you to share accommodation with another traveller of the same gender and if we can not match you up we will provide a single room at no extra charge. If you prefer not to share a single supplement is payable to guarantee your own room. The cost of the single supplement is listed above.

Extra Expenses

We recommend that you tuck away a few extra dollars a day for incidentals. Included entrance fees are those for the listed sites and national parks that are part of the itinerary. Any other site fees are not included.

The currency is the Nepali rupee (Rs) and there are Standard Chartered Bank ATMs in Kathmandu and Pokhara that take international cards. However, to be safe, we suggest you change money in Kathmandu and carry cash as backup in case the power goes down, the ATM is out of order, or you lose or break your plastic. Major credit cards are widely accepted at midrange and better hotels, restaurants and fancy shops in the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara only.

Annapurna circuit by Bike

annapurna bike tour

Nov 26 2018

First, mountain biking the Annapurna Circuit was an adventure of a lifetime, and I would recommend Trekking Team to anyone that I would recommend this trip. However, I would recommend trekking/MTBing the Annapurna Circuit to very few people that I know. You must be in very good physical condition and be willing to admit you're not in good enough physical condition. You must be willing to overlook the dirt (dust, trash and sometimes disgusting bathrooms) to enjoy the beauty. You must be willing to explore the local cuisine to fully enjoy the adventure. You must be willing to accept the available lodging that is never much better than a nice hostel and can be not much better than a roughly built shack. You must be willing to deal with cold. If you can get over those hurdles, the adventure is worth it. Shreehari was responsive and helpful in the time leading up to the trip, and the trip itself was well organised. Trekking Team met us at the airport and handled all logistics related to lodging, transportation, and scheduling (providing either a guide or free time in Kathmandu as we choose) until we were back in the airport. The handoff to our MTBing guide was well coordinated. The guide and porter were excellent and made sure we were taken care of at every step of the ride. The guide had been on over 50 trips to the Annapurna Region and seemed to know every local we met on the trip.

Additional information.

This is ADVENTURE travel, and many of the trip destinations in this site are remote areas, within under developed countries, where events are less predictable than is usually the case in. The unexpected is the norm in these areas and, despite painstaking planning and organization, our adventure trips can never be taken for granted like regular trips. Many of the places that we visit do not have the same quality of emergency health and safety services that you are used to in the developed world. Internal flights can be canceled, road transport is generally uncomfortable and unreliable, and hotels often do not approach the standards of the West.

IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED FOR THIS, YOU SHOULD NOT TRAVEL WITH US. This unpredictability also means that the itineraries that we put forward for each of our trips should be seen as statements of intent, rather than as contractual obligations. A variety of factors, including weather, transport difficulties and political instability, might dictate that we change any itinerary. The trip leader will make any changes that are necessary, after consultation with the group. Only rarely will such changes be significant, and we will always do everything within our powers to minimize the effects of the enforced changes. We cannot be held responsible for the results of changes or delays, irrespective of how they are caused.

How to Ride the Annapurna Circuit

Mia Altieri

The Annapurna Circuit is an exceedingly popular trekking route in the Himalayas and tops out at one of the highest mountain passes in the world, Thorong La Pass at 5,416m (17,769 feet). Surrounded by some of the tallest mountains in the world, it attracts hikers, bikers, and climbers alike. My mother hiked this route 40 years ago, before it became the popular (and accessible) route that it is now. In the summer of 2022, I followed in her footsteps and cycled a modified version of the official Annapurna Circuit trekking route with my cycling partner Daniel Richards.

The route winds through a vast variety of climates: subtropical jungles, alpine forests, and desolate rocky terrain. What the route lacks in oxygen it makes up for in dramatic views, kind locals, and amazing cuisine. On route, the logistics are quite easy, food stops are plentiful, and no overnight reservations are needed for the tea houses. However, getting to the route and preparing everything in advance requires some coordination. I’ve written this guide to aid anyone who is thinking of doing the Annapurna Circuit or any other high-altitude routes in the region. While this guide should have something for everyone, it should be particularly useful for those with little experience in the region.

A big sign saying Thorang La Pass has many strands of multicolored Tibetan prayer flags running from its top to the ground.

Annapurna Highlights

Expect spectacular scenery: jungles, rugged mountains, suspension bridges, monkeys, and yaks. Along your trip, you’ll encounter great food, kind locals, and countless prayer wheels. About halfway through the trip, you’ll have the opportunity for day trips in Manang, one of the most popular villages on route. In Manang, you can chat with other trekkers, visit high-altitude lakes, or stop by Praken Gompa, the nearby monastery. There will also be several opportunities to soak your sore muscles in hot springs along the way.

Route Basics

We followed the route and trip guide from Bikepacking.com  and cycled the route counterclockwise for the primary reason that acclimating is easier in that direction. Due to our time constraints, we rode the route in 11 days, but in an ideal world I would prefer 13. We took five days to reach Yak Kharka, a small village past Manang, three days to reach the summit from Yak Kharka, and three days to get back to Pokhara. While the route is rideable throughout the year, the best times of year are April–May and October–November. It is not recommended to travel to this region June–September due to the monsoon season. While there are many amenities along the route, the route is incredibly challenging due to the high altitude. Go as light as possible.

Camera looks directly across a typical Nepalese suspension bridge.

Nepal Travel Requirements

Visas are required to visit Nepal. Fortunately they are available on arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and at border crossings. Bring cash in advance for your visa. You can find out more at Nepal’s Department of Immigration website .

You will also need a permit to visit the Annapurna Region. You can get one of these at the permit office in Pokhara; note that these are also cash only. Although we came with printed passport photos for this particular use, the permit office offered to take our permit photos for free.

The CDC recommends multiple vaccines for travel to this area. While the standard dosage period for some of these vaccines is four weeks, sometimes it is the case that you can take an expedited track and finish your vaccines in less than one week.

Bringing a Bike

Some people opt to rent a bike in Kathmandu and bring that bike to the start of the route in Pokhara. However, if you’re like us and prefer to bring your own bike (and you’re flying to Nepal), you’ll have to deal with the standard flying-with-a-bike protocol, i.e., disassembling your bike, packing it, flying, and putting it back together. If this is your first time flying with a bike and you’re not keen on buying a bike box, you can usually go to your local bike store and ask for an old cardboard box, which they might give to you for free.

Once you start your route, you’ll likely need to store your bike box. Luckily most hotels in Pokhara will store your bike for free if you stay at the hotel for one or more nights. If you have trouble assembling your bike in Pokhara, there is a bike shop in town.

Different carriers have different protocols on flying with bikes. At the time of our trip, Qatar and Turkish Air were the only carriers flying to Nepal. Qatar Airways asked for $700USD each way per bike at the time of our trip; so we opted to fly with Turkish Air which charged about $80USD per bike each way. However, new information from Qatar Airways advertises that bicycles are included in checked baggage as long as the weight is under 32kg (70 pounds), making Qatar Airways the cheaper bike transport option.

Two bikes lean against the outside railing of small but ornately decorated yellow and red building in a rural and green setting.

Rig + Brakes

Hike-a-bike is inevitable on this trip, but if you want to minimize it, I’d recommend bringing a full suspension situation and opting for a backpack rather than bike bags. From my experience, it is more challenging to push your bike with bike bags compared to a backpack. My riding partner Daniel Richards brought a fully rigid bike, and I rode a hardtail, both fully loaded with bags, which worked fine for us.

High altitude can adversely affect hydraulic brakes due to the micro air bubbles expanding under pressure as you get higher. On a route like this that goes to very high altitudes , you are likely to encounter air bubble expansion in your brakes. If riding with hydraulic brakes, I recommend carrying a bleed cup. Some pro cyclists we met on the route mentioned that they bled their brakes with cooking oil from the tea houses and had no problems. While my bike does not have hydraulic brakes, I had my fair share of brake issues. During the trip, both my brake pads and my riding partner’s glazed, meaning we both lost all of our brake power. Glazing occurs when your brake pads get too hot and glaze over, meaning that your pads no longer have the necessary texture that enables them to stop your bike. Pads get too hot when facing consistent use downhill, taking a break or “pumping” your brakes can help prevent pads from getting too hot. However, I would highly recommend bringing a backup set of brake pads for this reason alone.

I agree with Bikepacking.com that the route is about 85 percent rideable. However, rideability might change depending on your bike, ability, and style of riding. From Yak Kharka to the peak (12km), the terrain is quite challenging due to altitude, rockslides, and general steepness. We hiked our bikes for most of this, but had we been more acclimatized, we would have been able to ride more of the terrain leading up to the peak. Other bikers, instead of pushing their bikes up the hill, carried them on their backs. The 10km after the peak was also unrideable for us due to the very rocky terrain; a full suspension might do better on this. Besides the area near the peak, you’ll encounter rutted jeep tracks, rocky terrain, mud, and may find yourself walking on occasion.

Getting to the Route

If you’re not living in a country near Nepal, it is likely you will arrive in Nepal via the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. From there, you will need to arrange transport to Pokhara. The route starts in Pokhara, a major city in the region. After arriving in Pokhara, setting up your bike, and attaining the necessary permits, you can start the route immediately.

Pokhara can be reached by plane or by bus. We opted to fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara on a 30-minute flight. We were able to buy our tickets to Pohkara at the Kathmandu airport 30 minutes before our flight. Flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara leave every 30–60 minutes. The return flight had to be bought in advance over the internet as there was no ticket sales counter at the Pokhara airport.

You can also opt to take a bus to/from Pokhara and Kathmandu. Many people opt to take a bus from a safety standpoint, as flights within Nepal are known to be dangerous . The bus takes around seven hours to cross around 200km, as reported by a local bus service .

A rider and background mountains are silhouetted against an orange sunset and clouds.

On-Route Logistics

While the terrain of this route is exceptionally difficult, the ease of logistics make up for it. Along the route are tea houses that offer you a place to stay and warm meals (some even offer warm showers). Tea houses are common accommodations found on most trekking routes in Nepal and offer accommodations ranging from simple to extravagant. While they offer western meals, they also offer delicious local food such as momos (a delicious type of dumpling accompanied with a spicy sauce) and endless refills of dal bhat (rice with lentils, vegetables, and other tasty sides). Many of them sell snacks so there is no need to buy all your snacks at the start of the trip and ration them. Consider tea houses your one-stop shops along the route, simple private accommodations, meals, and snacks all in one.

After leaving Pokhara, you can expect to mostly be visiting villages without major grocery stores, pharmacies, and hospitals. Despite not being near any major hospitals, the route is quite popular, and if an emergency arises it would be possible to hire a ride/mule (or helicopter depending on the area) back to Pokhara to get help. The major villages (Besisahar, Muktinath, Jonsom) along the route will offer some minor grocery stores, small pharmacies, technology shops, and more.

However, all of these places are cash only, so remember to pull out all the cash you need in Pokhara (there are also several ATMs in Jonsom). We budgeted €15–20 per person per day.

Despite these easy logistics, few bike shops are on route. We only encountered one minimal shop in Jonsom and several in Pokhara at the start of the trip. Be prepared to do your own bike maintenance and bring all the tools you may need.

High Altitude

This route goes up to altitudes that are classified as very high . If you’ve never been to altitudes that are classified as such, I highly suggest talking to a travel doctor about altitude sickness: when to expect it, prevention options, symptoms, and treatment. The altitude is the biggest challenge that riders face on this trip. At times, it was difficult to catch my breath, and I found myself feeling nauseous throughout the day. Despite the easy incline of some of the hills near the peak, I still found myself unable to ride them due to the lack of oxygen at high altitude.

While the altitude is unavoidable, there are some things you can do to make your travels easier and safer such as acclimatizing in Manang. Manang is a beautiful town at 3,500m (11,482 feet) with many day hikes and religious sites nearby, making it the ideal acclimation spot. There are also doctors in Manang that give altitude talks during the peak season. Taking an acclimation day is not the same as a rest day; instead, acclimation days allow the body to get adjusted to the lack of oxygen at high altitudes. Learn more about the importance and process of acclimation days .

Mia, a white woman, stands on a precipice bundled in warm clothes as dramatic, snow capped peaks jut into the sky behind her. The landscape around her is rocky, brown, and devoid of vegetation.

Above 3,500m (11,500 feet), it’s recommended that you sleep no more than 500m (1,640 feet) higher than the previous night. This means that you can climb more than 500m in a day as long as you return to an elevation no higher than 500m above your starting point for the night.

At very high altitudes, life-threatening illnesses such as high-altitude cerebral edema (HACE) and high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) become a risk. Educate yourself on these illnesses and discuss HACE and HAPE with your travel doctor. Our travel doctor recommended medication for HACE and HAPE, but it varies on a person to person basis. Learn to recognize the signs and descend immediately if experiencing symptoms or moderate or severe Acute Mountain Sickness.

Trip Specific Gear

  • Glacier glasses: at high altitudes, the sun can burn your eyes causing short term and long term damage . Glacier glasses protect your eyes from all angles.
  • Bug spray: mosquitos are common at low elevations, and we were not able to find any spray in Pokhara or along the route.
  • Polarized camera lens: to cut through haze if you plan on doing film photography.
  • Way to carry your bike on your back if you plan on carrying your bike rather than pushing it.
  • Water purification: most water on the route is not treated. For purification I brought a dropper with a water-purifying solution to avoid the weight and size of a filter. Filters don’t filter out viruses, which are found in water in Nepal ; be sure your water-purifying solution can eliminate viruses such as a SteriPEN or iodine tablets.
  • Bike repair tool kit
  • Brake pads and bleed cup (see section Rig + Brakes)
  • Sleeping bag and liner: it is possible to get scabies/bed bugs after staying at the tea houses; bringing your own sleeping bag and liner can help prevent this.
  • Medications you might need in an emergency: pharmacies are few and far between on the route. Talk to your travel doctor before departure and acquire any necessary medications at your local pharmacy.

Beautiful views with a 100% ride section along the Marsyangdi river this trail takes us to Tal. Magnificent Scenery with steep-sided valleys, small villages, and farms terraced altogether. Magnificent views of waterfalls along the way are also enchanting experiences as Tal is situated in a deep gorge .

Biking from Tal to Chame -22.6km

A 100% biking section with a challenging climb makes it one of the longest and most challenging sections in the Mountain Bike Tour Along The Annapurna Circuit. The geographical terrain is a bit harsh but the great jungle and river scenery makes you forget the roughness of the terrain and makes it a worthwhile enjoyable ride.

Biking from Chame to Manang- 29.7km

The ongoing steep terrain doesn't end here however, it becomes more rideable as the route spreads out into a Jeep track. An interesting road is made on the way to Dhiurpokhari from Chame by engraving into hills.  Allowing your body to acclimatize the way after Dhikur-Pokhari to Manang via  Pisang village is a plain and easy one.

Acclimatization in Manang

Responding to new weather and acclimatizing your body is a must. However, Short hikes to explore the nearby caves monasteries, and Gangapurna Lake aren’t out of bounds. Rest, relax, explore nearby, and chill out in Manang preparing yourself for the days to come.

Without a 100% biking terrain section, a need to carry your bike emerges. Manang to Yak Kharka is a quiet, calm, and short climb. Traversing paths we reach Thorang Phedi and admiring the mountain views takes time.

Biking To Muktinath from Thronag Phedi through Thorang La

Starting the day early around 5 am, carrying and pushing your bike more than 1300 meters to Thorang La is a long haulage. Challenging the spirit, passion, and essence of a mountain biker Thorang La pushes you to battle the cold and high altitude. The limitation of oxygen is filled by the magnificent views and mesmerizing scenery of the snow-capped mountains

from Thorang La. Travelling 50% carrying and 50% rideable will reach you at Thorang La Pass. After onward, the route up to Muktinath is all the way descending. You are greeted with a warm welcome is offered as you arrive in Muktinath.

Biking from Muktinath to Marpha Covering distance- 18km

Using a little used trekking trail, leaving behind Muktinath we traverse the hillside pushing through the small sections to reach Dhangla Danda from where spectacular views of the Himalayas captivate your heart. An awesome section of switch-back single tracks that take you down to the river bed in Lupra Valley is also an exciting turn of events. Heading to Jomsom for lunch after rejoining the main trail while stopping along the way to enjoy views.Taking time to explore the Thakali culture of the area after the trails lead into Marpha, a lovely old village on the riverside is also a one-time experience.

Biking from Marpha to Tatopani Covering distance-42km

The downhill trail through pine forests and small villages starts gentle and meanders. The scenery of snow-capped mountain peaks following the river is enchanting and comparing it with the impressive waterfalls at Rupse Chharhara is not easy. Enjoy lunch while viewing the waterfall at Rupse Chhahara. Picking up the speed from here dropping some 1000 meters following the trails with sweeping curves and bumps with rocky sections for mountain biking lovers we arrive in Tatopani. The traditional village, famous for its natural hot springs offers your body a chance to revitalize. Dipping in and out of the Hot Springs and enjoying a comforting bath ends our day.

3 hours drive to Pokhara after biking from Tatopani to Beni- 22km

Showing trail of stage 2 of Yak Attack, Besi Sahar to Chame

▼ DAILY ITINERARY ▼

Arrival in Kathmandu

You will be met at Tribhuvan International airport by a representative from the Multi Terrain Biking team and be taken to the hotel which is located in the heart of the tourist district of Kathmandu, Thamel (approximately a 30-minute drive).

Depending on your arrival time, there may be time to explore the streets, sights and shops of Thamel or to relax after your journey, before joining your guides. They will issue you with your Multi Terrain Biking kit bag and explain more about the coming days tour and activities. There will be time to check over the bikes with a member of the team on standby to assist with any mechanical issues.

Transfer from Kathmandu to Besi Sahar

Whilst the riders get an early breakfast, the Multi Terrain Biking crew members will load the luggage and bikes onto the transfer vehicles for the coach transfer to Besi Sahar.

You will leave Kathmandu at around 8am for the approximate 6-hour journey. Along the way you will stop for lunch and arrive at Besi Sahar by mid-afternoon, leaving plenty of time to explore the town and stretch the legs on the trails heading up into the mountains .

Besi Sahar to Taal: 37km Ride, 1400m Ascent

After an early breakfast you will leave Besi Sahar and start on the roads before hitting the dirt, encountering lots of small stream crossings.

After approximately 5km of fairly flat terrain, the trail starts to climb up with the remainder of the distance ascending towards Taal, which is situated on the banks of the Marshyangdi river.

Taal to Chame: 30km Ride, 1300m Ascent

Upon leaving Taal, the trail climbs up a steep and rocky jeep track, past a spectacular water fall and upwards to Timang.

The final 9km of riding offers a little respite from the continuous climbing as it undulates all the way to Chame, one of the Annapurna areas larger villages, which is situated in a narrow valley.

From here onwards riders may start to feel the effects of the high altitude and temperatures that are considerably lower than at Besi Sahar.

If you fancy a gargantuan challenge, then you could consider combining Day 4 and 5 and riding from Besi Sahar to Chame in 1 go as done during Yak Attack. We would only recommend this option for very fit riders, and you can read all about the challenge here.

Chame to Manang: 30km Ride, 1250m Ascent

As you ascend in altitude, the riding distances get shorter but that doesn’t mean they get any easier.

The trail ascends through pine forests before following an open valley up towards Manang. Depending on the weather, riders could encounter lots of mud and even their first snow during this section, then again, it could be lovely hard packed and fast flowing terrain. This is the Himalaya after all, and conditions can change at the drop of a hat!

Rest Day in Manang

Day 6 will be a rest day in Manang, which is essential to allow the body to acclimatise to the high altitude and gives the riders a break from the bikes.

From Manang, there are plenty of interesting and scenic treks that can be undertaken, or short rides if you are feeling up to it! There are also a number of excellent bakeries, coffee shops and local eateries to while away the day in.

Manang to Thorong Phedi: 17km Ride, 1240m Ascent

The shortest day distance wise, at only 17km, but riding time will be a little longer than your average 17km!!

Altitude is the biggest obstacle today with riders finishing at 4450m above sea level. Snow and severe cold are also distinct possibilities, but the scenery is absolutely breath taking, with snow-capped mountains in every direction.

Thorong Phedi to Muktinath via the Thorong La Pass: 14km Ride, 1040m Ascent

From Thorong Phedi a very early start will be necessary as high winds can pick up later on in the day on the top of the pass, which you will want to avoid.

It’s time to put the bike on your back for a 5km hike-a-bike, there is a strong chance of snow and freezing temperatures up to the highest point of the trip, Thorong La, at 5416m.

This could be the slowest 5km you have ever done, taking on average 3 to 6 hours, but the feeling of euphoria on reaching the top is more than worth all the effort. With lady luck on your side, the descent will be clear of snow from the very top and you can take on what has to be one of the world’s greatest mountain bike downhills, from 5416m to 3800m in 9km leading you back to the warmth of  Muktinath; the home of the temple of the eternal flame.

Muktinath to Marpha via Lubra Valley: 30km Ride, 960m Ascent

Heading out today you will go along the road for a short distance and then head into the famous Lubra Valley trails. The day starts by ascending to Lupra Pass, where you will get to see the breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna ranges.

Once you get to the top of the pass, your reward will be to ride a fast stretch of downhill experiencing the grippy, flowy singletrack until you reach the Kaligandaki river valley. From here there is a 6km flat section leading to Jomsom.

After lunch in Jomsom, the trail undulates along the river until you reach Marpha. For the more experienced and technical riders there are some alternative beautiful, fun and technical single-track options to take.

Marpha is an interesting, cobbled village, home to the best apples of the whole area, famous for growing apples and making apple brandy and cider. So be sure to sample some local produce in the evening!

Marpha to Tatopani : 43 km Ride, 460m Ascent

The trail from Marpha is mostly downhill to Tatopani. The trail starts gentle and flat through pine forests and small villages, where you will follow the river, and on a clear day, see stunning views of the snowcapped peaks. The lunch stop will be at the flowing waterfalls at Rukse Chaahara.

With lunch finished, you will continue to ride fast-paced downhill as the trail drops approximately 1000 meters on rough jeep track before you finally reach Tatopani. Tatopani is a cobbled street village, famous for its rejuvenating hot springs at which you can enjoy a well-deserved soak to ease any tired muscles.

Tatopani to Pokhara: 35 km, 800m ascent

The last ride of the trip! With the hard work done, it’s a relaxing ride down to the end of the trails. Being back at lower altitudes will make the riding seem easy and the trail undulates all the way to Maldhunga. The first 21km to Beni is jeep track and then from there it will be broken tarmac.

Once you arrive at Maldhunga, the team will pack the bikes and luggage onto the vehicle, and you will be transferred to Pokhara which will take approximately 3-4 hours.

After arriving in Pokhara and checking into your hotel, there will be plenty of free time for exploring & shopping at the relaxing lakeside town. There is an array of international standard hotels, restaurants and bars where riders and crew members can celebrate safely, after completing “The Annapurna Circuit”.

(Option to carry on riding to Pokhara will be available, a total of 82km with a long climb and long final descent into Pokhara, extra estimated riding time 4 hours).

Pokhara to Kathmandu Transfer

After breakfast you will return to Kathmandu via a 25-minute short plane journey or the 8-hour bus journey (please state at time of booking which option you would prefer, there will be an extra cost for the flight).

Once back in Kathmandu, there will be time in the afternoon for some trinket shopping or to explore some of the many temples and places of interest in the city.

Please let us know at the time of booking if you would prefer to stay in Pokhara a few extra days to check out some of the adventurous (or leisurely!) activities that it has to offer!

Annapurna Circuit Mountain Biking is one of the peculiar adventures admired for the ultimate exploration of the Annapurna region in Nepal. The mountain biking adventure takes you to places widely appreciated for the beautiful villages such as Pisang and Manang and the incredible mountain vistas of diverse facets of majestic Annapurna mountain. During the Annapurna Circuit Mountain Biking Tour, you will get an excellent opportunity to witness the mindblowing sights of the snowclad Himalayas, diverse terrains, and awe-inspiring landscapes.

The mountain biking adventure in the mountains of Nepal is not new. Though the increasing niches have made it one of the core activities in the Himalayan landscapes, mountain biking in Nepal is reported to be started in the early decades after the legendary Annapurna circuit came into the limelight.

In this mountain biking trip, you will reach elevations above 5000 m. and barren landscapes in the trans-Himalayan zone. The biking trip is challenging as you will be biking on steep terrains, somewhere uphill and downhill and on gravelled and rocky rough surfaces. The drought due to trans-Himalayan properties in the areas of Manang and Mustang is very astonishing, whereas in the lower elevations you will pass through the amazing greenery and explore a wide range of flora and fauna.

In some parts of the trail, especially when you are gaining elevations, you might have to carry your bikes for hours. And the beauty of biking down the hill while exploring the breathtaking cliffs amid mountains and enjoying the adventure makes the trip what it is.

The adventuresome biking in the Annapurna circuit provides you with a duality of emotions and an amazing thrill that you may never have explored in other parts of the world. The Himalayas in the sight, and peddling through the rough and rugged terrains is perhaps an adventure affair that is purely connected with nature and the people that worship it.

Long served as a trade route, the Annapurna circuit is a renowned trekking area in the Annapurna region . The northwestern part of Nepal is full of mountain beauty and is greatly blessed by the authentic natural spectrums that have been kept intact with conservation efforts. You will be biking in the villages of Kaski, Mustang and Manang districts while exploring all the faces of Annpurna Mountain throughout your biking trip.

The Annapurna Circuit Mountain Biking offers a deep peek into the life of people in the remote parts of Nepal. Moreover, it allows you to test your patience and adventure spirit that is greatly accompanied by the snowclad Himalayas.

The Annapurna Circuit Mountain Bike Trip takes us through a varied range of scenery, including rich subtropical rainforest, small and scattered villages, deep valleys, and farmed fields, as well as woody alpine and arid landscapes. During the biking trip, you can also explore the communities, interact with the hill inhabitants, and enjoy breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Manaslu Himalayan Range.

What is Annapurna Circuit?

Annapurna Circuit is an incredible trekking and mountain biking trail situated in the northwestern part of Nepal. The trail was originally developed by the locals as a trade route to pass on the goods and for the purpose of trade. The original trail was longer and require numerous days to complete. This has somehow benefitted the locals then and provided accessibility in the remote hilly villages. The livestock and domestic products used to be transported from the higher areas to the lower Pokhara and neighbouring small cities through the same trail.

In 1977, the area's trekking was made accessible to tourists from outside the country after a dispute between the administration and local guerilla organizations was resolved. The original route, which took 23 days, went in an anticlockwise direction from Dhumre to Pokhara, with trekkers crossing the Thorong-La Pass and descending into the Jomsom Valley. However, the route was fragmented with the development of roadways connecting small towns of different villages in the 80s. Although a roadway was developed, the actual trek route didn’t change and people still trek the route to complete the Annapurna Circuit.

The Annapurna mountain is full of adventure and is also one of the most arduous mountains to climb. As per the traditional epics, the mountain range was given its name in honour of Annapurna. Annapurna is said to be the daughter of Himavat, King of the Mountains and the Goddess of sustenance and nourishment.

Besishahar, with its subtropical climate and deciduous forest, serves as the starting point for the well-known Annapurna Circuit Trek and Mountain Biking. It is the administrative centre for the Lamjung district and one of the incredible places to explore the culture and nature of west Nepal. The geographical centre of the nation, Lamjung, is located in the mid-hills of Nepal, spanning tropical to trans-Himalayan geo-ecological regions. In addition to the beauty of culture, tradition, religion, and multiethnic people, Lamjung is blessed with a wonderful entrancing view of mountain ranges, verdant hills, rivers and streams, waterfalls, and old hamlets. The mountain vistas including Annapurna II, Machhapuchhre and Lamjung Himal are spectacular from Besisahar.

Pisang

Pisang village is one of the most beautiful villages in the Annapurna Circuit. It is divided into two parts. Lower Pisang and Upper Pisang. Upper Pisang is a lovely settlement with both a recently constructed gompa and a 250-year-old gompa, surrounded by crimson patches of early-fall barley fields. You will start to notice the aridness of the Upper Manang region at Pisang, both upper and lower. Once you arrive at Bhakra, the pine and spruce trees will disappear and you will begin to enjoy the arid climate in the Upper Pisang area. Also, the cultural attractions of Gurungs, Ghales, and Manangis are some interesting parts to explore Pisang. It is a part of the Manang District and is rich in Gurung and Manangi culture. You may get a chance to observe customs and traditional attire. There are numerous homestays and guesthouses in both Lower and Upper Pisang that offer accommodation facilities here.

The Manang district is situated at 3519 meters above sea level. It is a remarkable area because of the magnificent fusion of several mountain peaks, lake, passes, valleys, and human civilization. Gorkha and Lamjung surround Manang in the east, Mustang and Lamjung in the west, Mustang, Tibet, and Gorkha and Lamjung in the north. Parbat, Kaski, Lamjung, and Mustang surround Manang in the south. It is referred to as the territory beyond the mountains. The majority of the population in Manang is Gurung and Ghale. They would relocate to the southern regions of the country during the hard winters. They rely on seasonal tourism and agriculture for their livelihoods.

Lower Manang and Upper Manang are the two sections of the Manang district. Nearly every home has Buddhist prayer flags and other totems from the ancient Bon faith. Manang's upper region is primarily Buddhist. There are numerous chortens and Buddhist flags in the area. It is also an acclimatisation point for the Annapurna circuit where trekkers mostly spend two days and enjoy the surroundings. The ice lake and several other gompas and monasteries can be explored during the acclimatization stay in Manang.

Thorong La Pass

Thorong La Pass is one of the high-altitude passes in Nepal . This pass, which is also known as the entrance to Annapurna, is well-known across the world for its breathtaking beauty and breathtaking views. Its elevation is 5416 meters above sea level. This pass, which is located to the north of the formidable Annapurna, is renowned for its breathtaking grandeur. The Manang district in the east and the Muktinath and Mustang region in the west are connected by this pass. It is also the highest point of the Annapurna circuit. The Thorong La Pass is formed by the two mountain ranges known as Khatung Kang and Yakawa Kang.

The hardest section of the entire Annapurna Circuit Mountain Biking is Thorong La Pass. The day spent traversing Thorong La Pass is also the longest of the entire trek, therefore trekkers and bikers set out early each morning to make the crossing. After a few hours of sunrise, a brisk cold wind blows across the Thorong La Pass, making hiking at those times of day practically impossible. This is also the key justification for leaving early to traverse Thorong La.

Muktinath Temple

Muktinath Temple is one of the popular religious sites in the Mustang of Nepal. The Pagoda-style temple serves as a metaphor for how Hindu and Buddhist beliefs coexist harmoniously. Hindus believe that this is where Lord Bishnu found salvation from the curse of Brinda. He is hence revered as Muktinath- the lord of Salvation. Hindu worshipers bathe in the 108 waterspouts that are placed behind the temple. Buddhists, on the other side, revere Bishnu as Avalokiteshvara. Metal statues of Lord Bishnu, Goddess Laxmi, Saraswati and Janaki, Garuda, Lava-Kusha, and Sapta Rishis are present on the temple premises. It is quite a fascinating sight to explore, as you can witness the Hindus and Buddhists worshipping the temple.

Marpha looks like a beautiful oasis because it is tucked away in a dry area. And it serves as a kind of shelter for trekkers and mountain bikers. The architecture in Thak Khola has changed as a result of the road that was constructed a few years ago. In many villages, old-style homes with stone walls and mud brick roofs make are beautiful. However, at present time, it has become a material of choice as other options are also available. Concrete was first used for roads and is currently the material of choice. Marpha, however, never laid out the road's carpet. Instead, it placed the road far away from it, separated by an apple orchard. That's why Marpha looks like an old place and it’s still preserved in its authentic form.

Happiness Promise

There are hundreds of thousands of guides and tour operators around the world. Figuring out who to trust is stressful and hard.

That’s why we started 10Adventures Tours, we’re here to make it easy to find a great guide or tour operator. We handpick the best local guides and tour operators for 10Adventures, working to ensure you have great guides and a great trip.

We know it sucks to show up in a different country and find out the tents are junk, the guide incompetent or the route different from what we thought we were getting.

We want to give our users peace of mind that you’ll have a great trip and offer a guarantee that we will work with you to make it right.

How does this work? Well, if you feel that something about your trip didn’t’ meet your expectations, let us know. We will then work to gather the details and figure out where things went wrong. If something indeed wasn’t as described, or went wrong with your trip, and the problem was within the control of either oursleves, the guide or the tour company, we will then work out a refund with you that’s proportional to the scale of the problem.

Obviously the best way to make a great trip is to tell your local guide or tour operator and give them the chance to fix the solution while you are on your trip. Most things can be solved by telling your guide when the issue develops. If that doesn’t solve it, then email us right away. Please don’t wait to voice your concerns until the trip is over, as it’s much harder to solve issues after the fact.

We work hard to make sure you have a great trip. If something isn’t right, please email  [email protected]  and we will get to work right away.

Explore Kathmandu

After breakfast and a quick, pre-trip meeting, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley and experience the wonders of this vibrant city. Visit the well-known Buddhist temple Stupa Swayambunath, which is also called the Monkey Temple. From the temple, which is high on a hill, you’ll find an inspiring view of the mountains and the valley surrounding you. Stupa Swayambhunath is the oldest and most mysterious shrine in Kathmandu, attracting tourists and Buddhist visitors from all over the world with its distinctive white dome and sparkling gold spire. Next, visit the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple on the Indian subcontinent, and the crematorium beside it. Finally, your tour also takes you to Patan Durbar Square where you can see notable temples and palaces from centuries past, each an intriguing example of traditional Nepalese architecture.

Transfer to Besishahar

Start the day with an early breakfast, then enjoy an adventurous and scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besishahar. Witness the incredible beauty of the Marsyangdi Valley and fill your lungs with the fresh mountain air. When you arrive in Besishahar (800 m/2,625’), you’ll spend the night in a mountain lodge with stunning Himalayan views.

Bike to Tal

Begin your cycling tour today after waking up early and enjoying a hot breakfast. The first part of the trail follows the Marshyangdi River through the valley. Then you’ll begin to ascend, gaining about 1,000 m in elevation as you pass lovely cascading waterfalls. Today’s destination is the picturesque village of Tal, surrounded by local scenery and terraced fields.

Bike to Chame

Get ready for a fun and challenging day of biking. Today you will climb up in elevation significantly as you cross rugged terrain between Tal and Chame. When you arrive in Chame, notice the tall maple and oak trees with a stunning Himalaya panorama in the background. After a tough day, get a good night’s rest in Chame.

Bike to Manang

Get an early start again today after a hearty breakfast. Ride the trail through a lush forest at the bottom of a narrow and steep valley. Along the way, you’ll pass a small airstrip and a village with approximately 200 houses. You’ll also see the Barge Monastery, the largest monastery in the district. When you come to Manang, stop to spend the night.

Explore Manang

Today is an acclimatization day exploring Manang and the surrounding area. It is important to stay active today, so you may want to ride to a nearby point at 4,000 m (13,123’) to help prepare your body for the higher altitude coming in the days ahead. There are many things to see and do in Manang. The local Manangi people enjoy pony racing and archery, and there may be opportunities to watch them practice these ancient sports. You can also explore the nearby lake, chortens, and monastery. Don’t forget to stop and appreciate the incredible views here. Notice Mount Gangapurna, Lamjung, and the Annapurnas before you with a glacial lake sparkling below them.

Bike to Thorong Phedi

Ride today through valleys and climb to higher altitudes. You’ll leave the Marsyangdi valley and follow the Jarsang Khola valley. You’ll have plenty of chances to admire the lovely scenery and experience aspects of the local culture. After you pass through the yak pastures (“Yak Kharka”), cross over the river to come to the village of Thorong Phedi (4,450 m/14,600’).

Over the Throng La Pass to Muktinath

Wake up very early this morning and prepare for a challenging day. The climb today is difficult, and you will probably feel the effects of the altitude. Remember that this the experience of a lifetime, so take it easy and try to enjoy each step. As you cross the Thorong La pass (5,416 m/17,769’), your efforts will be well rewarded with awe-inspiring views. Pause here to enjoy the incredible vistas, then continue your tour down to Muktinath to spend the night.

Bike to Jomsom then Tukuche

Leave Muktinath and ride toward Dhangladanda on a less-used trail where you can enjoy phenomenal views of the surrounding Himalayas. Descend to the river in the Lupra valley over single track switchbacks. Then continue on to Jomsom for a lunch break, after which you’ll continue on to Tukuche. Tukuche is an old village where you can experience Thakali culture and sample some apple brandy.

Ride to Tatopani

A gentle day of riding today takes you along a flatter section of trail that winds downhill through the pine forests and quaint villages of the valley. As you follow the river, be sure to pause to appreciate the exquisite waterfalls and views of rugged snow-capped peaks. When you arrive in Tatopani (1,190 m/3,904’), you can rest and relax, soaking in a natural hot spring.

Cycle to Beni and transfer to Pokhara

Finish your cycling tour today with an easy 18 km ride from Tatopani to Beni. The dirt trail follows the Kaligandaki River and is surrounded by heavy rocks. You’ll have some time to explore the town of Beni before driving from here to Pokhara to spend the night.

Fly to Kathmandu

Take an incredible flight today from Pokhara back to Kathmandu, experiencing the splendor of the mountains from above. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, you will have free time in the city to shop for souvenirs or see more of the sights. You can also choose to rest and relax in one of the city’s many cafes or rooftop restaurants.

Departure Day

Sadly, your Annapurna Circuit cycling tour has reached its end. You are free to explore if you have time before your flight. Your Annapurna Circuit mountain biking trip itinerary

Arrival in Nepal and transfer to the hotel. Your guide will be at the airport to greet you and take you to your hotel. Sleep off the jet lag and build up your bike if you have the energy!

Accommodations : Wood Apple Hotel

Today, we will build up our bikes and ride through the streets of Kathmandu to the foothills for a ride on Helipad trail. This ride will help you to beat the jet lag with a nice climb and fun descent through Shivapuri National Park. After the ride, we will have traditional Dal Bhat for dinner and discuss the upcoming trip.

We will leave Kathmandu today and make the drive to Besisahar, our starting point for the Annapurna Circuit. Enjoy the scenery along the way as we will start to see the mighty Himalaya in the distance.

Accommodations : Tea House

Today we start the Annapurna Circuit! We will head out of Besisahar and begin to make our way to Taal. The ride has between 4000-5000 ft of elevation gain and takes us through magnificent scenery. We will be riding through a river valley and will spot some waterfalls along the way.

On this day, we will continue our journey with another challenging day to Chame. The scenery begins to change as we go deeper into the mountains. Enjoy the sights and sounds of villages as we pass through.

Accommodations: Tea House

Today, we will make our way even further up into the mountains to the village of Manang. We may be getting tired, but we know that we have a rest and acclimatization day tomorrow!

Rest day in Manang. Sitting at just over 11,000 ft, we will spend the day adjusting to the elevation and resting our legs after three challenging days. If you choose, you can join the group in a hike to a beautiful lake just above town. Wander through the small village and enjoy a rest day well earned.

From Manang, we will take singletrack out of the village and make our way up to Thorong Phedi. Take your time and don’t push too hard because the air continues to get thinner. Arrive in Thorong Phedi, drink some tea and get ready for tomorrow’s big push over the pass.

Today is the day we will make our way over Thorong La Pass! We will start well before dark to beat any incoming wind and weather. The push to the pass is a challenging one, which only makes it that much more rewarding. Just wait until you see the prayer flags that mark the high point- it is an incredible feeling! Once we get to the pass, we will descend almost 6000 ft of amazing singletrack all the way to Muktinath.

Our bodies should we well acclimatized after going up and over the pass. We will start the day with a short climb that will take us to one of the best descents in Nepal- Lubra Valley. This flowing singletrack is very fun and has some of the most breathtaking views! We will descend all the way to the river valley below and make our way to Tukuche to enjoy some apple brandy and apple desserts.

We will make our way through the valley, on a combination of singletrack and jeep roads to the village of Tatopani. Here, we will enjoy soaking in some natural hot springs.

Our last day of the ride will take us to our finishing spot of Beni. We will celebrate with a delicious lunch and then make our way to Pokhara for some lakeside relaxing.

Accommodations : Hotel in Pokhara

Enjoy the morning in Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside city that has many adventure options. Walk around the city, rent a boat to get out on the lake or just relax before flying back to Kathmandu.

Accommodations: Hotel in Pokhara

Today, we will say our “see you laters” as we depart Kathmandu. We will transport you to the airport to catch your flight home.

Usha’s favorite thing about mountain biking is that it helps her get to beautiful places and meet many people from around the world. Her favorite trail in Nepal is the descent from Thorong La Pass and Lubra Valley—from the high point of the Annapurna Circuit down into the valley below!

Other things to explore in Nepal

There are many sights to see in Nepal! Depending on when you arrive and depart for your trip, here are some suggestions for Kathmandu. You’ll also find this information included in your trip information sheet.

Swayambhunath (The Monkey Temple)

Sitting above Kathmandu, this Buddhist temple is a must see while in Kathmandu. Its more common name is the Monkey Temple because you are sure to see some monkeys hanging around the temple complex. Since this temple sits above the city, it has some fantastic views of the Kathmandu valley.

Boudhanath Stupa

This giant Buddhist stupa is one of the largest stupas in the world. It is one of the most visited sites in Kathmandu and is a short taxi ride from where we stay in the Thamel area.

Annapurna Circuit by Mountain Bike

Mountain Bike Annapurna with Himalayan Single Track

An Unforgettable Journey around the Annapurna Circuit

Annapurna Circuit is far and away one of our most popular trips. It has a lot more to offer other than just psychical challenges and high-altitude trails. It’s a journey along one river valley and down another, between some of the biggest mountains in the world! The scenery is stunning and along the way, you will pass through many authentic villages, experience the warm-hearted hospitality of the Nepalese people, and enjoy delicious food. Nowadays the trails are predominantly rugged jeep tracks, but the scenery is still breathtaking and the riding is Epic.

For many, this is a bucket list tour. The trip starts with the adventurous drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar , from where the pedaling starts. This is by no means an easy trip, continuous uphill in the altitude is a struggle for most people during the first half of the trip. But it’s the moments in between, stopping to rest and enjoy the astounding views, soaking in the atmosphere of the Himalayas, meeting the local people and just enjoying the simplicity of life are some of the enjoyable things about the trip.

The fitter you are for this trip, the more you will enjoy it. While you can go along at your own pace and take as much time as you like, we do recommend that you have good fitness and are a competent cyclist to get the most out of this trip. Our program is also highly customizable to suit the needs of you and your group.

While our classic program is 14 days we can also offer custom options to this itinerary. You can link to Tilicho Lake or Naar Phu or even make an extended trip into Upper Mustang. Just drop us a line and will customize the Annapurna Circuit program for you.

You will be riding through the highest mountain range in the world, the Himalayas, and cross the mighty Throng La at 5464 meters. There is nothing like this!

if you would like to include upper mustang mountain biking adventure in your list we have ultimate himalaya.

Annapurna Circuit

Are your ready for this Adventure?

Also if you are looking for a more indepedant trip around Annapurna, let us know and ask about our “bare bones” package.

Trips Highlights

  • Crossing the Thorong La Pass at 5464m
  • Mountain Biking one Of the Worlds Longest Downhills
  • Discovering the Vibrant Mountain Culture
  • Soaking in the Hot Springs at Tatopani

Upon your arrival in Nepal, a member of our team will meet you at the Airport and transfer you to the Hotel. We have a meet and greet with the Guide for a trip briefing and gear check. We also take you to a welcome dinner of Nepal’s Traditional dish Dal Bhart (Rice, Lentil Soup and lots of tasty side dishes).

We head out into the Kathmandu Valley to explore the rich culture around the city and enjoy some nice warm up riding to get the trip started. For most riders, we take them up to Dhadgaon and into the Shivapuri National Park, it’s a really nice 4 to 5 hour ride that ends in Boudhanath Stupa for some lunch and sightseeing. Boudhanath is one of the largest Stupas of its kind in Asia and it offers a unique insight into Buddhist Culture.

Starting the day at 8am we meet at our workshop for freshly brewed Himalayan Beans coffee and then load up the bikes for the 6 to 8 hour drive to Besisahar. We stop along the way to enjoy the views and take some lunch. On arrival in Besisahar we take some time to explore the town and we also meet our porters and finalize our trip preparations. The drive can get a bit rugged, but just think, you won’t have to sit in a jeep for a while after this. Besisahar is the gateway to Annapurna, and the last big metropolis you will see until you reach Beni at the end of the trip.

Today we ride, just over  a 1000 meters of uphill. The trail takes us along the Marsyangdi River, it’s a beautiful section of the ride and 100% rideable. In Tal there is some nice scenery with steep sided valleys terraced with farms and small villages. Tal is situated in a deep gorge and you can see cascading waterfalls along the way. The waterfalls are a highlight of the day, the relentless uphill on the other hand, not so. But one pedal stroke at a time will get you there.  Tal is our resting place for the evening.

Another  challenging day of climb makes this one of the longest and hardest sections along the route. The terrain is rugged jeep tracks but fun. There is great jungle and river scenery so take this stage steadily and enjoy the ride.  Once you start to get over 2000 meters, you will notice it becoming harder to breath and the slower you go the better you will acclimatize.  The stupa at the entrance to the village is a sight for sore eyes, and a nice welcome to an overnight stay in a cozy teahouse.

The trail still climbs but becomes more rideable and less steep today as it widens out into more of an open valley.. The jungle opens up into the arid mountain region and you can get great views of the Himalaya as you ride. It’s a good idea to take it steady to allow your body to acclimatize.

Take a day to acclimatize and prepare for the hard days to come. Short hikes can be taken to explore the nearby area, visit high altitude lakes, rest, relax and chill out in Manang, maybe you will not want to leave! From here you will be heading into the true mountain wilderness. Manang is home to the Manangi people and here you can sometimes see the ancient sports of archery and pony racing.

A short and gentle climb today from Manang to Yak Kharka and then on to Throng Phedi, take time to admire the mountain views as you go along. There are a couple of sections to carry your bike but for the most part, the trail is rideable.  You are now heading up over 4000m and it can become a struggle, the trails gets narrower as we leave the jeep track behind. The hillsides become snow covered and the valley begins to close in around you as you climb onward and upwards. Thorong Phedi is not the most comfortable place to sleep, it can be overcrowded, but the atmosphere and hospitality are always great as you meet fellow trekkings/bikers all about to embark on the last push to the mighty Throng La!

Beginning from around 4am in the morning, you have to make the long haul, carrying and pushing your bike up more than 1300 meters to Throng La, this is one of the most challenging parts of the ride that will define the true spirit and passion of any mountain biker as you battle the altitude and the cold. But you will not just be gasping from the altitude, but also gasping in awe as this section of the journey proffers excellent rewards with magnificent views from Throng La of the snow capped mountains and superb technical downhill on the other side that will have you grinning from ear to ear, or if you’re a bit nervous perhaps browning your trousers! Alas you will arrive to a warm welcome and rest at Muktinath. Today 50% carrying, 50% rideable. If you need help with your bike, you can hire a pony along the way.

Leaving behind Muktinath we traverse the hillside along a small, little used trekking trail, there is a small section of push as we reach up to Dhangla danda from where you get spectacular views of the Himalaya. What follows is an awesome section of switchback single tracks that takes you down to the river bed in Lubra Valley. Rejoin the main trail and head to Jomsom for lunch. In the wind this can be a bit tough riding, but stop and enjoy the views along the way. The trail rolls into Marpa, a lovely old village off the road. Take some time to explore the cobbled lanes and explore the Thakali culture of the area.

Again we are going downhill today. The trail starts out gentle and flat and meanders in and out of the valley sides, through pine forests and small villages. Following the river, there are good views of the snow capped peaks. Stop at the impressive waterfalls at Rupse Chhahara for lunch. After here the speed picks up as the trail drops some 1000 meters with sweeping curves and plunges, rocky sections and bumps that you will love. Arrive in Tatopani, the cobble lined village famous for its rejuvenating Hot Springs. Once in Tatopani you can enjoy a soothing bath in the Hot Springs and perhaps a local massage will not go astray, or a cold beer for that matter!

A ride of around 25 km on open jeep track, flat for the most part but a few up and down hills as we leave behind the Annapurna Region. From Beni we transfer by jeep back to Pokhara for a well-earned rest and perhaps a beer, a good meal and some fun times out and about!

Midday flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Check into the hotel and have an afternoon of shopping and then get ready for your last night in Nepal.

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Day by Day Itinerary

annapurna bike tour

Arrive to the Tribhuvan International Airport of Kathmandu, from where our representatives will welcome you and take you to the hotel.

Today, we will have our mountain biking sightseeing tour across the entire valley of Kathmandu. Particularly, we will opt to experience sightseeing on various worldwide heritage sites, which include Pashupatinath Temple, the Monkey Temple of Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar and similar others.

Today, our team will make a journey for 5 to 6 hours to experience the real adventure. We will reach at the height of about 760 meters to Besi Sahar.

Starting from Besi Sahar, we will reach at the beginning point of our biking trek i.e. Jagat located between Mount Manaslu and various high mountain peaks of Annapurna region. The track that leads to Jagat will head up in the north direction via Marsyangdi valley with Ngadi Chuli and Himalchuli peaks looming on the horizon. In addition, our trekking team will pass from quiet villages and lush fields of rice paddies before reaching to the guesthouse located in Jagat.

Now, our trekkers will follow a rocky hiking trail followed by Marsyangdi River, where we will pass from magnificent waterfalls and simultaneously, lush as well as green fauna and flora. In addition, our trail will progress uphill towards the Tal that implies lake in Nepali language. Here, you will find dramatic changes in the scenes from lush beginnings of your biking trek.

Our trail on this day will follow Marsyangdi River and climbs at about 2360 meters to reach Timang. We will continue our trail by passing from fir and pine forests to enjoy incredible views of Annapurna II peak at 7937 meters and other mountain peaks of the entire valley. Before we should reach to Chame, known as the administrative centre of the district Manang, we will also see few outstanding views of Peak 29 and Mount Manaslu.

While trekking on seventh day, we will find Marsyangdi Valley as narrowing consistently and reaching at its steepest point, while our trail carved within the vertical face of the rock. While moving on this point, we will find opening of the valley to highlight a majestic vista of mountain, where the rock of Paungda Danda face towers at more than 1,500 meters above the head of your trail. Local Gurungs perceive that the top of Paungda Danda constitutes the Gateway towards Heaven and the impressive view will continue to follow, as we move ahead to Pisang.

Biking trail will continue throughout the entire upper region of Manang District, where you may see and experience the influence of Buddhist and/or Tibetan culture. People of this region usually involved in herding of yaks and rising of maize as well as other crops. Once we leave Pisang, we will find two options following the Marsyangdi River and both of them will take us to Braga and Mungji villages again with its excellent monasteries in either of the northern route or southern route. Southern route includes a gentle climb across the river, while the northern route is relatively more strenuous and demanding, as you have to climb up to the northern ridge of the entire valley. Here, you will again be able to get stunning views of upper northern route belonging to the Annapurna region.

Today, we will have our rest or acclimatization day at Manang, as during further days, we have to experience long distance walks across high altitude. Here, possibilities include hiking up at the height of about 400 meters towards the hill present behind Manang and visiting the nearby monastery. Here, you will also be able to find various magnificent views of the complete Annapurna mountain range and icefall, as crashing down via Gangapurna. Alternatively, you may experience a challenging hike of 4500 meters to Ice Lake for about 5 to 6 hours to get stunning views present in the region.

By leaving from Manang, we would move ahead to the base of mountain pass named Thorung La Pass. By climbing the mountain pass and passing from Marsyangdi valley we will get the opportunity to immerse ourselves to the beauty of Himalayan region and simultaneously view fir and pine forests. Today, we have a relatively short trek to reach Yak Huts, popularly known as Yak Kharka among Nepal’s yak herders, as they often bring animals at the same place to graze.

We will have our short trek for the day to experience acclimatization. In this case, the scenery becomes wilder while we continue with ascending across the valley. Our trekking trail descends by crossing the river and thereby, moving towards the topmost lodge at about 4450 meters. Phedi in Nepal’s language implies foot of a mountain pass and obviously, the word is true, as the place is below the Thorung La mountain pass.

On this day, we will pass from Thorong La mountain pass to reach at Kagbeni from Thorong Phedi.

Another short biking and hiking trek involves riding about 42 kilometers to Tatopani by starting from Kagbeni.

We will have our bike ride on the sloping terrain towards foothills of Himalayan region to move towards the Beni village. While ending our ride, we will experience a short drive to travel remaining way within the relaxed Pokhara town located across the lakeside. This point constitutes the end of our Bike and Hike tour to the entire Annapurna Circuit.

We return to Kathmandu following the gorge of the Trisuli River, arriving in Kathmandu in the afternoon. Wander around the medieval Durbar Square in the heart of the city, sample some Newari cuisine, or shop for some locally made handicrafts and souvenirs.

We will have our farewell dinner during the evening time at nearby local restaurant and finally, our team will drop to the Tribhuwan International Airport of Kathmandu in Nepal.

Beginners Bikepacking The Annapurna Circuit, Nepal

annapurna bike tour

As they ditched their racks and panniers in favor of bikepacking setups, Robin Patijn and Sabina Knezevic were increasingly drawn to more rugged and remote routes. In this story, they share their experiences and lessons learned while riding Nepal’s Annapurna Circuit with only the bare essentials…

Words and photos by Robin Patijn and Sabina Knezevic ( @farawayistan )

“Haven’t you had enough after riding the Caucasus Crossing in Georgia?” our friend asked laughingly after we told him of our plan to cycle the Annapurna Circuit Trek (ACT). It’s one of the world’s most beautiful high-altitude hiking trails and winds through some of Nepal’s tallest mountains, with Annapurna I being the highest at a staggering 8,091 meters (26,545 feet). To his credit, it was completely out of our comfort zone, but we were inspired by what we’d glimpsed from other riders online.

But we had come pretty far since our first attempt at a bikepacking route in the Caucasus Mountains. That time, we’d set off on the worst roads and steepest climbs with a full-on traditional touring setup, and we were never able to complete the route. Gear choices aside, it also might have been a bit ambitious for our first proper bicycle tour ever.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

When we started this trip without any prior experience, we didn’t think we’d be able to complete a crazy bikepacking journey, so we chose the “safe” option of a more traditional setup with panniers. We had numerous reasons for our decision to go with good ol’ panniers: better stability and easier packing, simple mounting and dismounting of the bags, to name a couple. Enough room to carry all that we needed and the ability to store stuff on top of the panniers. Besides, it looked like (almost) everyone else on a trip as long as ours was using panniers.

Hitting the road, we were absolutely happy with our choice. That is, right until the moment we had our first off-road climb with a gradient of 10+ percent. In that moment, we knew we had chosen the wrong setups. Incidentally, Sabina’s panniers broke on the Pamir Highway, so we were able to use the refund money to buy a frame bag and saddle bag—our first baby step towards bikepacking. On our way towards Nepal from India we got the idea stuck in our head that we simply had to cycle the ACT. Or at least to try. But we kept wondering, were we strong enough? Was it going to be too hard? Were our bikes suited to the terrain?

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

Thankfully, this time around we felt a lot more sure about ourselves. One thing we had learned from our Georgian adventure is that weight matters. We stripped our bikes to the bare minimum. Robin had a 14-liter saddle bag and Sabina a 7.5-liter frame bag. Somehow, we had to fit enough warm clothes in our bags for the freezing temperatures at higher altitude, including the highest point of the route, the famous Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters (17,769 feet).

We had been riding with Ross and Paxton since Delhi and had managed to convince them that riding the ACT with us was a good idea. In Pokhara, we found two new friends who had the same crazy idea, Sam from Wales and Silas from Switzerland. With our brand new gang of six we were ready to take on this Himalayan adventure. Together with our friends we finally embarked on our first real trip with our new bikepacking setups. The total elevation gain of the entire circuit is more than 10,000 meters (32,810 ft) over just 380 kilometers (236 miles). That’s a lot of high-elevation riding and even more steep climbs.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

We left the main road after a couple of kilometers, riding towards Besisahar; the official starting point of the ACT. We rode through the fields and small villages in the lowlands and had our first taste of some pretty intense climbs on dirt roads. As we got higher we entered the subtropical jungle, where the road winds along massive cliffs. Every now and then we would pass areas of roadwork with big, loud generators and excavators. We had to carry our bikes over the construction sites and all the workers would start to giggle when we told them we were planning to cycle over the Thorong La pass.

Besisahar is the last town to stock up on food and snacks for a reasonable price. We bought a bunch of chocolate cookies, peanut butter, and some dried fruits. Prices on the circuit are sky-high and rise in tandem with the altitude—understandably so, since it’s not an easy task to get the goods up there.

We cycled mostly on the road that goes all the way to Manang. The road was a mix of gravel, mud, and some asphalt every now and then. It was going up all day, every day, which was pretty tough, but definitely doable, especially without loaded panniers packed full of too much gear. The road often clung against the winding rock face. Most of us had to push our bikes on the steepest parts, and even that was a strenuous task. Even motorbikes couldn’t ride everywhere. They too had to push their heavy bikes uphill.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

Along the way we were rewarded with beautiful waterfalls, and once we got higher the environment started to change. The architecture changed and we saw the first wall with prayer wheels. Houses were made of stone and everyone seemed to be preparing for winter. Locals were repairing their homes and chopping wood. Nature also changed drastically. Broadleaf forests gave way to forests of pine. We could see the tree line and the massive boulders rising above it. We even got a glimpse of the mighty Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world.

Just before Chame we passed another checkpoint. Here we could have our vital signs checked too. We were soon reaching the 3,000 meter mark, at which point we could really start to feel the effects of the altitude. Luckily all of our oxygen levels were superb, and so was everyone’s blood pressure. The doctor gave us the all clear to continue climbing, so we pressed on.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

The road ends in Manang, which is about 20 kilometers before the pass. And just as Komoot had predicted, the last part to Manang was nearly flat. It got even better when we saw the first baked goods in the windows of the European-style bakeries in the small village. It felt like heaven. Chocolate croissants and fresh coffee right in the middle of the magnificent Himalayas. Prices were sky high too, but everyone was in for a treat, and it was worth every single rupee to us.

Manang was also the perfect base for an acclimatization hike. We hiked to Praken Gompa, at nearly 4,000 meters, to visit the Lama and receive a blessing to safely cross the Thorung La pass.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

In the evenings, everyone would gather around the fireplace to play games and chat with other travelers. It was terribly cold at this altitude and this was the only source of heating. We would warm our hands with the stones on top of the stove. Showering had to be done in daytime, since the water pipes would freeze solid at night and didn’t defrost until noon. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful place to spend two days and recharge for the highest part of our trip.

We agreed to not climb more than 500 meters per day above the 3,500 meter line. With Manang being the end of the road, we had to carry our bikes over stairs and push up a seriously steep hill as we got started. From there, the region was only accessible by foot or bicycle. We could cycle most of the trails and we passed a lot of hikers. They were all in disbelief that we were going to cycle over the pass. They were also astonished by how little we carried, compared to their massive backpacks.

In Manang we met a group of mountain bikers, all on full-suspension bikes and with porters to carry their stuff. Hell, they even had someone who cleaned their bikes. We met them again in Yak Kharka, and it was pretty funny to see their cool, shiny bikes nicely lined up in comparison to our dirty and well-worn steel touring bikes dumped chaotically against the opposite wall.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

It was getting colder and colder, and some parts of the trail were already covered in ice. It was pretty tricky to walk (read: slide) over it with our loaded bicycles, but we all made it without landing on our butts. The rest of the track was roughly 30 percent cycling and 70 percent pushing. We had to pass an active but beautiful landslide area, where we absolutely couldn’t pause to soak things in. The altitude was affecting our breathing and it was pretty brutal to keep going without stopping. However, seeing the abyss beside us and all the loose stones above was more than enough motivation to push onwards.

In Thorung Phedi we unloaded most of the stuff from our bikes in the teahouse where we would spend the night. To make our journey over the pass the following day a bit easier, we pushed our bikes up as far as we could get them. The path is extremely steep from the very beginning, and we steadily worked our way up through a series of switchbacks. Every 10 steps we had to take a pause to catch our breath. We used this time to appreciate the unbelievably beautiful valley and its snow-capped peaks.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

We made it about a kilometer past high camp and locked our bikes up for the night. The sun had set behind the mountains and our fingers and lips were turning blue on the hike back down to our tea house due to the extreme cold. At this altitude, it’s also better to sleep lower than you have been that day, so it functioned as our acclimatization hike, too.

At 6:00 AM the next morning, we packed our stuff and carried it back up to our bicycles, which were frozen solid at that point. The long push had begun. Despite how light our bikes felt when we set off from Pokhara, they felt anything but now.

There was one steep section, but the rest of the climb was thankfully quite gradual. This doesn’t mean that it was easy, since there was a lot of snow and breathing was next to impossible. Unbelievably, though, we still overtook some hikers who were clearly also struggling with the lack of oxygen in the thin air.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

We had a major setback when we realized stuff had been stolen from our bikes during the night. Both our bib shorts, arm warmers, and some tools (even cookies!) were gone. It’s just stuff, but it was so demotivating at the time. We tried to focus on the beauty of the environment instead, which helped take our minds off our stolen goods. And so did getting our first glimpse of the prayer flags marking the top of the pass. The otherwise completely white landscape was suddenly filled with spectacularly bright colors from the hundreds of flags that were flapping in the wind.

With our bikes in one hand and holding hands with the other, we walked the last part together, both with tears of joy in our eyes. We actually made it. Thorong La, 5,416 meters high. Incredible. One of the highest mountain passes in the world, and we’d made it there on our bicycles! The feeling was surreal. After all the mandatory photos at the pass we started our descent in the shadows of the majestic mountains surrounding us. From the top of the pass we still had a long way back to Pokhara. The days riding down were a mix of tiredness, gratification, and thankfulness.

Annapurna, Nepal, Robin Patijn, Sabina Knezevic

We had learned that we don’t need the perfect bicycle or to be in tip-top athletic condition to do these amazing things. A strong will, a bit of courage, and some good friends who helped us got us further than we could ever have dreamed of. Our steel touring bikes were far from ideal for this route, but that hadn’t stopped us. We didn’t even have mountain bike tires. Our brakes were squeaking like crazy and you could hear the dirt grinding in our chains. After two weeks of gorgeous trails, muddy tracks, and cobbled roads, our bicycles were in desperate need of a deep clean.

Cycling the Annapurna Circuit Trek route made it clear to us that this kind of riding is exactly what we want to be doing. Facing nature’s challenges head on. Pushing our bodies to their limits. Immersing ourselves in vast landscapes with unique cultures and breathtaking scenery. We’ll keep riding with what we have for now, but look forward to transitioning to a full-on bikepacking setup once our budget allows. Kyrgyzstan, we’re coming for you next year…

The highlight of the trip is crossing the Thorong-La Pass-5416m, the widest pass in the world in between valleys of Manang and Jomsom and riding in the Kaligandaki valley through the deepest gorge of the world between Dhaulagiri (8167m) Annapurna I (8091m). This exciting trip offers a rare opportunity to bike through the heart of the beautiful Annapurna region, where we follow high ridges, climb rugged mountain passes and descend shady forest trails to the terraced valleys of lakeside Pokhara. Passing through small mountain villages en route and with time in the bustling historic city of Kathmandu, there is plenty of opportunities to meet the incredibly friendly people of this country and absorb their rich culture.

Meet our representative at the airport and transfer to your hotel by private vehicle. Explore Thamel’s numerous bars, shops and restaurants and begin the taste of Nepali life at your leisure. O/N Standard Hotel in Thamel | Meals: Dinner

We check out from the hotel at 7:30 for Besisahar. On a private vehicle (a jeep or a hiace) we drive to Besisahar and then ride about 9 km to Nadi on a Jeep track to stretch our legs.

O/N Standard Hotel in Pokhara | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The trail soon turns to rough jeep track and follows the course of the Marshyangdi River along the left side of the valley. This jeep track is steep rocky with a final 1km descent into the flat valley surrounding Taal.

O/N - Local Teahouse | Meals - Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Leaving Taal, we cross Marshangdi river towards a jeep track. It becomes more rideable with closer views of snow-capped peaks and a follows a wide trail to reach to Danakyu. From here, we climb steep up to Timang. After a hard day's work to reach Chame, if time permits, you can relax by the hot spring on the other side of the Marshyangdi River.

O/N - Local Teahouse | Meals - Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The route goes through a dense forest in a steep, narrow valley. After crossing the Marshagdi  river, the route follows through a wide valley that opens up ahead of us to Pisang Village and then cross the Pisang River and start few pushing section Deurali Danda (3486m). Then, we ride on a great downhill and flat track to Humde (3280m). From here we ride gradual uphill to Manang.

We stay in Manang to acclimatize to the high altitude and rest our muscles. The whole day is at leisure so you can take a walk around the Manang valley, interact to the local people and visit local monasteries. If you want, we can hike to Ice Lake (4620m, 6-7 hrs) or Gangapurna Lake (3525m, 2-3 hrs)

From this day we ride along with the trekker till we reach Muktinath. We have to carry the bike over a few sections to reach to Tanki and then ride to Ledar (4200m). Relax and acclimatize.

Today we walk, ride and some hard push the bike especially from Phedi to High camp, thus not rideable (about 2km only rideable) due to bit rocky and very steep trail. We are staying high camp instead of Thorang Phedi because there are many trekkers staying in Phedi thus next morning will be bit mess and crowd.

Today is the most fascinating day of the trip. 4 AM start is necessary to cross the Thorong La pass: the trail can get windy later making it difficult to cross the pass. It will take approximately 4 hours to reach the top and will be hard push and carry for bikers. The effects of altitude are now fully felt and we will be unable to move at anything but a snail's pace. Once at the top, the trail descends rapidly on a very steep slope (technical riding) for approximately 1 hr to Muktinath.

We ride mostly downhill on a Jeep track. But, if you are really good riding on single tracks, our guide can take you via Lupra Valley through breathtaking technical single track section of 4 Km. If you are lucky you can even see wild horses and donkey on this trail. Riding along the  Kaligandaki river via Jomsom to Marpha, we get hard headwind. Marpha is known as apple capital of Nepal. You can explore the apple farms and visit famous and remarkable Marpha monastery.

Today marks a fascinating ride as we enjoy the exhilarating descent along the course of the world’s deepest gorge of Kali Gandaki. The scenery changes drastically from desert like terrain to a land full of vegetation. You will also get to witness Mt Dhaulagiri (8167m) in front of your eyes. At Tatopani, you will get the unique opportunity of bathing in a natural hot spring.

We descend from Tatopani through pretty Gurung villages to Beni though it’s short ride today and then we will drive back to Pokhara. Enjoy the beauty of Pokhara Lakeside in the evening.

We take a tourist bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Drive on a tourist bus is comfortable but it takes around 7 hours to reach to Kathmandu.

Early in the morning, you have to make the long haul carrying and pushing your bike up more than 1300 meters to Throng La, this is one of the most challenging parts of the ride that will define the true spirit and passion of any mountain biker as you battle the altitude and the cold. But you will not just be gasping from the altitude, but also gasping in awe as this section of the journey proffers excellent rewards with magnificent views from Throng La of the snow-capped mountains and superb technical downhill on the other side that will have you grinning from ear to ear, or if you’re a bit nervous perhaps browning your trousers! Alas, you will arrive to a warm welcome and rest at Muktinath. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 10:  Muktinath (3760m) to Tukuche(2590m)  Via Lupra Valley Distance – 32km

What follows is an awesome section of switchback single tracks that takes you down to the river bed in Lupra Valley. Re-join the main trail and head to Jomsom for lunch. In the wind, this can be a bit tough riding but stop and enjoy the views along the way. The trail rolls into Tukuche, a lovely old village on the riverside. Take some time to explore the cobbled lanes and explore the Thakali culture of the area. We stay overnight in the well furbished German Bakery. Apple Brandy is a local product and a good nightcap to relax your mind and body after the day’s ride. Overnight at Hotel.

DAY 11:  Tukuche(2590m) to Tatopani(1190m) Distance:- 42km

The trail starts out gentle and flat and meanders in and out of the valley sides, through pine forests and small villages. Following the river, there are good views of the snow-capped peaks. Stop at the impressive waterfalls at Rukse Chaahara for lunch. After here the speed picks up as the trail drops some 1000 meters with sweeping curves and plunges, rocky sections, and bumps that you will love. Arrive in Tatopani, the cobble lined village famous for its rejuvenating Hot Springs. Once in Tatopani, you can enjoy a soothing bath in the Hot Springs and perhaps a local massage will not go astray, or a cold beer for that matter!  Overnight at Hotel.

Bikepacking the roof of the world – Annapurna Circuit in Nepal

The Annapurna Circuit is one of the most impressive hiking trails through Nepal’s lofty mountains. Parallel to the hiking trail, slightly above in places, a gravel road lies in the shadow of the world’s highest peaks. The route winds around the Annapurnaberg massif in the Nepalese Himalayas. At 8,091 metres (26,545 feet), the Annapurna I is the highest mountain en route and the ninth tallest mountain in the world. At a dizzying 5,416 metres (17,769 feet) above sea level, the Thorung La Pass is an absolute highlight too. The route takes you through a wide variety of incredibly beautiful landscapes. The first leg stretches through subtropical lowlands with rice terraces and jungles. Next, the dusty dirt road leads along deep cliffs where a river swirls hundreds of metres below, cutting the valley in half. Slightly higher up, green alpine meadows and pine forests backdrop your ride. Finally, you admire the spectacular Himalayan landscape with impressive rock formations, snow-covered peaks, and brightly coloured prayer flags. Hot springs, glaciers, birds of prey, yaks, Buddhist temples and Tibetan culture – this is the Annapurna Circuit. Although the route itself is anything but easy, it is one of the easier mountain Tours to plan in terms of logistics. Along the route, there are many mountain villages where you'll find a comfy bed and a hot meal. Don't expect luxurious hotels; the rooms of the tea houses are very simple. The ice-cold wind sometimes blows right through your room. The higher you get, the lower the comfort level. Hot water, electricity or clean blankets are scarce from 3,000 metres (9,842 feet). The tea houses offer an amazingly extensive menu. The meal is, of course, dal bhat, a dish consisting of rice, lentils and curry. The food is nourishing and helpings are unlimited – important for a hungry cyclist! Because the route is a round trip around the Annapurna Mountains, you can choose to ride the Annapurna Circuit clockwise or anticlockwise. I chose to ride anticlockwise as this allows you to climb the Thorung La Pass more gradually. With an altitude of 5,416 meters (17,769 feet), you might suffer from altitude sickness but climbing slowly reduces this risk. If you cycle the route the other way around, you'll get a few more stretches of 'flowy single trails' under your wheels on the descents. The hiking trail officially starts in Besisahar and ends in Jomsom. You can reach these towns by bus, which will even carry your bike on the roof. Of course, you can also choose to cycle the entire Tour from Pokhara. You apply for the required permits for the region in Pokhara and Kathmandu. Enjoy this epic ride on the roof of the world!

Last updated: April 18, 2024

Dag 1: Pokhara naar Sundar Bazar — Annapurna Circuit Trek

Start your first day of the Annapurna Circuit Trek with a hearty breakfast. Feel free to take an extra generous portion of samosas, sel rotis, curries and other Nepalese specialties. You will need these extra calories.

Dag 2: Sundar Bazar naar Syange — Annapurna Circuit Trek

An early start, the sun is still struggling to break through the thick layer of fog. The legs still feel strong, with more than 1,000 vertical meters on them, but still more than 7,000 meters to go. As soon as the sun rises a little higher, a glorious moment occurs. For the first time you will see the … read more

Dag 3: Syange naar Dharapani — Annapurna Circuit Trek

On the third day, the mountains around get higher and higher. The climbs will be even steeper than on previous days. Directly from the departure from the tea house in Syange is a climb that is so incredibly steep that cycling is impossible. Later in the day there will be more parts where you may have … read more

Dag 4: Dharapani naar Chame — Annapurna Circuit Trek

On the fourth day, another spectacular change of landscape takes place. The tropical vegetation and dusty canyons are gradually giving way to mountain pastures and traditional mountain villages. The first memories of Buddhism soon become visible. Prayer wheels and brightly colored prayer flags decorate … read more

Dag 5: Chame naar Manang — Annapurna Circuit Trek

The fifth day of the Annapurna adventure is relatively easy, or rather; less heavy than the previous ones. This ride takes you over the flat plateau around Pisang and Manang, one of the larger villages on the route. Just before Manang, the Nepalese even managed to find a flat piece of land where a runway … read more

Dag 6: Manang naar Yak Kharka — Annapurna Circuit Trek

Manang is a suitable place for a well-deserved rest day. It is also a good base for an acclimatization hike to 4,000 meters or higher. Rising above this point and then descending again prepares your body to proceed safely. The start of the trail runs through the narrow streets of the old part of Manang … read more

Dag 7: Yak Kharka naar Thorung Pedi — Annapurna Circuit Trek

Day seven again promises to be a somewhat shorter day, at least in terms of distance. To climb no more than 500 meters, I could only cover 7.3 kilometers. From Thorung Phedi, tonight's place to sleep, it is also wise to make an acclimatization hike to an altitude of 5,000 meters. You can make good use … read more

Dag 8: Thorung Pedi naar Muktinath — Annapurna Circuit Trek

Day eight is D-Day. Today the crossing of the famous Thorung La pass is on the program. Because the weather at the top can be quite haunted with heavy gusts of wind and heavy snowfall, you will leave early in the morning. The chance is more stable again in the morning is a bit higher.

The first part of … read more

Dag 9: Muktinath naar Jomsom — Annapurna Circuit Trek

The ninth stage between Muktinath and Jomsom contains pieces of asphalt. Finally no bouncing and bouncing, but diving hairpin bends at high speed. Dag 10: Jomsom naar Tatopani — Annapurna Circuit Trek

On day ten you can finally make a good number of kilometers again. The route follows the dirt road that runs parallel to the river. The first part you will find yourself between the honking buses, but after a while a suspension bridge will take you to the other side of the river, away from traffic.

Here … read more

Dag 11: Tatopani naar Nayapul — Annapurna Circuit Trek

Ride eleven from Tatopani to Nayapul felt a bit like coming back to civilization. Along the way there are again plenty of shops and restaurants selling masala tea and samosas.

Dag 12: Nayapul naar Pokhara — Annapurna Circuit Trek

The last leg of the Annapurna Circuit Trek takes you back to Pokhara, which is also the starting point. This completes the circle around the Annapurna Mountains. But before you arrive in the country's second city and get a well-deserved rest, one last climb awaits you.

The route is mostly on asphalt … read more

Annapurna Circuit Bike Tour is a popular and thrilling adventure in Nepal, offering stunning mountain scenery, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. This circular trekking route, starting and ending in Besisahar, takes riders through lush forests, terraced fields, picturesque villages, and high mountain passes. The tour is challenging and suitable for experienced mountain bikers but not beginners due to its rugged terrain, steep ascents, and technical descents. The best time for the Annapurna Circuit Bike Tour is during the spring and autumn, with stable weather and clear skies. Permits, accommodations, and bike rental are required, and it is essential to plan your itinerary and book accommodations in advance. The tour also offers an opportunity to immerse oneself in the local culture and learn about diverse ethnic communities. It is essential to be well-prepared for weather changes and altitude-related challenges and to respect local culture and the environment by following responsible tourism practices.

Some popular attractions along the route include ancient monasteries, breathtaking mountain views, and traditional Tibetan villages. Additionally, travelers can indulge in local cuisine and participate in cultural activities such as traditional dance performances and handicraft workshops. It is advisable to pack layers of clothing, carry necessary medications for altitude sickness, and be mindful of waste management to minimize environmental impact during the tour.  The tour covers 250 km of mountain biking paradise, surrounded by some of the world's highest peaks. The Annapurna Circuit is the highest mountain en route and the ninth tallest mountain in the world, with snow-capped mountains, suspension bridges, pine forests, sparse mountain villages, and stunning views. The tour passes through rough terrain, stones, pebbles, and steep uphill and downhill trails, and includes visits to the Gurung, Manangi, Chemjong, and Thakali people.

Nike's are not required for the tour and be left at the hotel.

Drive Kathmandu to Besi Sahar

  • Guest House

Whilst the riders get an early breakfast, the biking crew members will load the luggage and bikes onto the transfer vehicles for the coach transfer to Besi Sahar. You'llesmandu at around 8 approximately will stop for lunch arriving by non, leaving plenty of time to explore the town and stretch your trails heading up into the mountains.

Besi Sahar to Taal: 30km Ride, 1400m Ascent

After an early breakfast, you'll leave Besi Sahar and almost immediately hit encountering lots of small stream crossings. after fairly flat terrain, the trail starts to climb up with the remainder of the distance ascending towards Taal, which is situated on the banks of the Marshyangdi river.

Taal to Chame: 36km Ride, 1300m Ascent

Upon leaving Taal, the trail climbs up a steep and rocky jeep track, past a spectacular waterfall to Timing the final riding offers a little respite from the continuous climbing as it undulates all the way to Chame, one of the Annapurna area, which is situated in a narrow valley. From here onwards riders may start to feel the effects of the high altitude and temperatures that are considerably lower than at Besi Sahar. f you fancy a gargantuan challenge then you could consider combining Days and riding hames done during Yak Attack. We would only recommend this option for very fit riders and you can read all about the challenge here

Chame to Manang: 30km Ride, 1250m Ascent

As you ascend in altitude, the riding distances get shorter but that doesn’t mean they get any easier. The trail through pine forests before following an open valley up depending on the weather, riders could encounter lots of mud and even their first snow during this section, then again, it could be lovely hard-packed flowing terrain. This is the Himalaya'snsge at the drop of a hat!

Rest Day in Manang

Day 7 will be a rest day in Manang, which is essential to allow the body to acclimatize, a break from the bikes. From Manang, there are plenty of interesting and scenic treks that can be undertaken, or short rides if you are feeling up to it! There are also a number of excellent bakeries, coffee shops, and local eateries to while away the day in.

Manang to Thorong Phedi: 17km Ride, 1240m Ascent

The shortest day distance wise, at only 17km, but riding time will be a little longer than your average 17km!! Altitude is the biggest obstacle today with riders finishing at 4450m above sea level. Snow and severe cold are also distinct possibilities, but the scenery is absolutely breathtaking-capped mountains in every direction.

Thorong Phedi to Kagbeni via the Thorong La Pass: 25km Ride, 1040m Ascent

From Thorong Phedi a very early start will be necessary as high winds can pick up later on in the day on the top of the pass, which you will want to avoid. It’s time to put the bike on your back for a 5km hike-a-bike, starting in the dark, through snow and freezing temperatures to the highest point of the trip, Thorong La, at 5416m.

This could be the slowest 5km you have ever done, taking on average 3 to 6 hours, but the feeling of euphoria on reaching the top is more than worth all the effort. With lady luck on your side, the descent will be clear of snow from the very top and you can take on what has to be one of the world’s greatest mountain bike downhills, from 5416m to 2700m in 20km leading you back to the warmth of Kagbeni; the gateway to Upper Mustang.

Kagbeni to Tatopani: 58km Ride, 960m Ascent

The only reason to start early today is to have even more time at the hot springs at Tatopani; the day’s final destination! 58km of predominantly downhill takes riders back down to the sub-tropical heat and oxygen-rich air. The first 35km is a gentle drop-down Kali Gandaki gorge; reputedly the deepest gorge in the world. The final 23km into Tatopani is a jaw-clattering, rough and rapid descent that will test both man and machine. The hot springs now await to soak away the aches and pains of 6 days on the trail.

Tatopani to Beni & transfer to Pokhara: 28km Ride, 400m Ascent

  • Bike / Jeep

The last ride of the trip! With the hard work done, it’s a relaxing ride down to the end of the trails. Being back at lower altitudes will make the riding seem easy and the trail undulates all the way to Maldhunga. The first 21km to Beni is a jeep back and then from there it will be broken tarmac. Once you arrive at Maldhunga, the team will pack the bikes and luggage onto the vehicle, and you will be transferred to Pokhara which will take approximately 3-4 hours. After arriving in Pokhara and checking into your hotel, there will be plenty of free time for exploring & shopping.

(Option to carry on riding to Pokhara will be available, a total of 82km with a long climb and long final descent into Pokhara, extra estimated riding time 4 hours)

Pokhara to Kathmandu

  • Plane / Bus

After breakfast, you will to Kathmandu via a 25-minute short plane journey or the 8-hour bus journey (please state at the of booking which option you would prefer). nice Kathmandu, there will be me in the afternoon for some trinket shopping or to explore some of the many temples and places of interest in the city. Annapurna Kora Trek Tour

Annapurna Kora Trek

Nepal is an experience as a whole which was beautifully crafted by World Travel Experiences (WTX). We travelled to this vibrant and mystical land last month and we still have the feeling of being to the lap of mountains. Busy Kathmandu is the dream city for youngsters and remote into the mountains villages seems quite, lands barren and high mountains as a proof of every events. Whenever is the time it seems to be looking and smiling at us. Oh Himalayas we miss you and hope to be there soon again.

Annapurna Circuit Trek

I went to Annapurna Circuit trek from 21st Sept to 4th Oct, as a solo trekker. To be honest, at first I was worried to hear that I was the only trekker who had booked this trek in between those dates, with Nepal Hiking Team. Once I had reassurance that everything was okie, went ahead. It was the right decision though. Every planning was meticulous, every accommodation perfect and obviously the tour guide knew his job and the circuit very well. Annapurna Circuit itself is a beauty in itself, and I would recommend this trek with Nepal Hiking Team to everyone!!

Annapurna Circuit Trekking

The team members of Sherpa Expedition and Trekking were truly exceptional. Their knowledge, expertise, and passion for the mountains were evident in every interaction. They went above and beyond to make sure that I had a memorable experience. From the initial planning stages to the actual trek, their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction were commendable.

Had a great time on the Annapurna Circuit trek with Outfitters.

Annapurna Circuit Trek Tour

I did a 13 day trek round the Annapurna Circuit with Apex the Asia and can't speak highly enough about them. Ramesh dealt with the booking and was very professional, he tailored the trip around the dates I needed and I was able to hire some equipment from them to save buying it myself. I was lucky enough to have Gyanu as my guide and he is excellent, if you do any trek in Nepal you have to go with Gyanu! He has so much experience and knowledge about the area and during the trek I learnt so much from him about Nepal. His experience is shown by the amount of people we met on the trek who he knew, from other guides/porters to guesthouse owners, and it was obvious the amount of respect that everybody had for him. He was constantly looking out for me, making sure I was OK, and his level of care went way above what I expected. Above all he is the most friendly and warm person, it was a pleasure to spend 13 days in his company! Thanks Gyanu (and Ramesh), I will see you next time I am back in Nepal!

Annapurna Circuit Trek Tour

With my two colleagues i was travelling to Nepal and together we planned to do the Annapurna Circuit Trek. We stumbled upon this company and sent my first inquiry email. I was impressed that they responded in less than an hour and addressed our requirements very precisely. Finally 3 of us booked with them. I cannot stop myself appreciating the Eve Holidays team for making our trekking experience so lovely. Accomodation in Kathmandu was in Thamel and our rooms were ideally located away from noise. We had breakfast in the hotel which were perfect buffet breakfast. We had 2 complimentry dinners in Kathmandu with Maina. She is very friendly and nice lady. We did our trek with our guide Pasang who became our friend during the trekking. He was always attentive telling us all the time where to put our feet and what is ahead on the trail. He explained lot of things about lifestyle and people of mountains, and on top of all needless to say that the views were no less than a paradise. And at last I should not forget to thank Maina for keeping in touch with us most of the days during trekking.

15 Days Annapurna Circuit trek (Thorong La Pass trek)

It was a fantastic trekking. The views were amazing. The trekking is well organized. Staffs are very friendly and always try their best to accommodate our needs. The guide has a lot of experience to help us to reach our goals. He makes sure everyone was safe, and he waited for us. It was absolutely an unforgettable experiences. I strongly recommend this company. The next time I come back to do the other trekking, I definitely go with Nepal Trekking Route - one of the best. Thanks Shailesh, Nawin, Sandesh, and Bishu.

Annapurna Circuit Trek 15 Days Tour

Annapurna Circuit Trek 15 Days

Sherpa Expeditions & Trekking made my whole experience safe, easy and smooth. I was travelling solo and booked this tour due to the law change requiring a guide, but regardless I am glad I went with them. They made sure I had all of the gear that I didn’t realise I needed, and knew where the trail was at spots where I doubt I would have found it easily. As we crossed the high pass, there was a lot of snow falling, so having an experienced guide with me was very reassuring for the crossing. They were also very flexible, and made it easy for me to adjust the itinerary to have more time in Pokhara at the end. My guide was Dawa Sherpa (the shorter Dawa), and I am very grateful that I was paired with him. He may be short, but wow he can also move fast. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and helped make the experience personal, explaining things and translating along the way. He was also efficient, prebooking accom further ahead to make sure we had beds. And the sliced apple every night was a great touch. Thank you Dawa, and SET, for making my trip one to remember for the rest of my life. I hope to trek with you again sometime.

Annapurna Circuit Trek (Original) Tour

Annapurna Circuit Trek (Original)

My experience at the Millennium Homestay Trek was amazing. I hiked to these colorful villages with my partner last week. It was really worth visiting, and it was precisely what we were expecting from this off-the-beaten trail. Local lifestyle and untouched beauty of the hills. This trek is a must for those who can't do high-altitude treks in the Himalayas. We simply loved it. We highly recommend taking Kumar as a guide for this hike, as he is certainly the best in the business. Funny one. Never seen such friendly people on any other trail. Ajay went above and beyond to ensure we were doing fine, and he managed it well. Really recommend this trek to all, and Swotah Travel is really professional. We would go with them again if we were to visit Nepal again.

Annapurna Discovery Tour

Really enjoyable small group tour. Trekking was challenging at times (lots of stairs!) but all done at your own pace and taking enough time to enjoy the local villages, scenery and milk tea. Guide and guides-in-training were professional, friendly and loved to dance!

Annapurna Circuit And Tilicho Lake Trek Tour

Annapurna Circuit And Tilicho Lake Trek

The Tilicho Lake with Mesokatno La pass Trek is a challenging trek and it is important that you have an acceptable level of fitness. I am 71 and the rest of the group was much younger. The leaders, Ram, Wangchu, and Dorje Sherpas made sure I was okay when I fell behind. Sherpa Expedition organized an excellent trip. I highly recommend it.

What people love about Annapurna Circuit Tours

Itinerary, guide Ramesh and porters Tulisi and Santosh plus prebrief and debrief by the two owners of the company made a 10/10 trip around Annapurna Circuit. Highly recommend
Our Annapurna Circuit Trek with Sherpa exceeded all expectations. Sherpa's passion for the mountains and his commitment to ensuring our comfort and safety were truly commendable. His years of experience in guiding trekkers through the Annapurna region shone through in his expert navigation and insightful commentary along the way. Sherpa's warm personality and genuine interest in getting to know each member of our group added a personal touch to the journey, making us feel like we were in the hands of a trusted friend rather than just a guide. We are incredibly grateful for the memories we created on this trek, thanks to Sherpa's guidance and expertise.

NYC 5 Boro Bike Tour 2024: Everything you need to know about parking on Staten Island

  • Published: Apr. 27, 2024, 1:00 p.m.

TD Five Boro Bike Tour 2021

More than 32,000 participants in the NYC Five Boro Bike Tour will descend upon New York City on May 5, and they’ll finish their 40-mile journey in Fort Wadsworth. (Staten Island Advance/Derek Alvez).

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 32,000 participants in the TD NYC Five Boro Bike Tour will descend upon New York City on Sunday, May 5, and they’ll finish their 40-mile journey in Fort Wadsworth.

The event is billed as the largest charity bike ride in the world, with participants riding through all five boroughs of the city.

They’ll cross five major bridges, including the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which will signal to riders that the Ford Wadsworth finish, and the Finish Festival, is near.

Streets throughout the city will be closed that day along the route, and parking will be difficult for participants and spectators, who are advised to park their car on Staten Island for easy access by ferry to the Bowling Green start in Manhattan.

It’ll also be convenient for cyclists, who won’t have to travel far to their car at the end of the race.

Paid parking in lots at the Staten Island Ferry in St. George are limited, due to ongoing construction, but there are several municipal lots nearby.

Another option would be to park near a Staten Island Railway station a few stops from the Staten Island Ferry. This is a good way to find free parking. Simply hop on the Staten Island Railway, head to the ferry, and off you go to the race start. Bikes are permitted on the train.

Paid Parking

  • Empire Outlets Parking

Hours: 24/7

Cost: $25/day

Note: The Empire Outlets garage will be accessible for parking only until 8:30 a.m. on Tour day.

  • Saint George Courthouse Garage and Parking Lot

Hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cost: $12/day (Subject to change)

Pay with cash or credit card (no debit card)

  • 25 Wall Street

Cost: $15/day (Subject to change)

Pay with cash, credit, or debit card.

Cars that park without checking in with an attendant are subject to being booted. Riders must comply with all posted rules and regulations.

  • 325 St. Marks Place
  • South Beach Field #4, 446 Father Capodanno Blvd

Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants parking at South Beach can cycle to the Staten Island Ferry in order to get to the Start Area in lower Manhattan.

MTA Staten Island Railway

Cyclists may find luck parking on local streets near any stop, or in a free Staten Island Railway Park-and-Ride at Dongan Hills, Great Kills, Annadale, Prince’s Bay, or Huguenot stations. Municipal parking lots are also available at Great Kills and Stapleton stations.

From there, participants and fans can easily then hop on a train to the Staten Island Ferry.

Bicycles will be allowed on the trains, and you can board at any Staten Island Railway station.

MetroCard fares are collected as you enter and exit at the St. George and Tompkinsville stations. Visit www.mta.info or dial 511 for more information.

Texas MS 150 Bike Tour Returns To Aggieland

Texas A&M University will once again serve as the finish line for thousands of cyclists riding in the Texas MS 150 when the 40th annual charity bike tour concludes Sunday on Houston Street between Kyle Field and Aggie Park.

The two-day event benefiting people with multiple sclerosis — a condition that damages the body’s nervous system by eroding the protective coating of nerves — will run April 27-28, with a variety of routes beginning in Houston and Austin before converging in La Grange and again in College Station. Texas A&M Transportation Services is advising drivers to anticipate multiple road closures and potential delays beginning early Sunday as the riders make their way through campus.

A section of Lamar Street starting at the bell tower will be closed to drivers throughout the day, while Houston Street will remain closed from George Bush Drive to Joe Routt Boulevard. Riders will make their way down Olsen Boulevard and Old Main Drive before passing the Memorial Student Center and Kyle Field on their way to the finish line. A map of the route through campus, as well as accompanying road closure and parking information, can be found at transport.tamu.edu/ms150 .

Visitors planning to watch the participants finish are invited to park in one of the three nearby garages: Gene Stallings Boulevard Garage and University Center Garage will both charge a flat $10 entry fee, while West Campus Garage charges an hourly visitor rate. Additional parking information is available on Transportation Services’ event parking page .

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Bike MS, which encompasses the Texas MS 150 and a variety of other charity rides across the country, traces its roots to 1980, when the first MS 150 was held in Minnesota. Today, it is the largest fundraising cycling series in the world. Participants in this year’s Texas MS 150 have already raised nearly $7 million to fight multiple sclerosis, with an overall fundraising goal of $9.425 million. More information about the Texas MS 150 and Bike MS is available at events.nationalmssociety.org .
