This trip also includes a stop at the Laguna de Apoyo Natural Reserve , a tropical dry forest filled with a variety of plant and tree species, along with birds and other animals. If you want to witness the Masaya volcano from a different perspective, consider this night excursion , a perfect opportunity to see the lava’s fiery glow from up close.

Heading east from Masaya, you’ll find another must-visit location in Nicaragua: The Mombacho volcano , which last erupted in 1570. For this adventure, I recommend booking this guided walk to ensure a memorable experience in the middle of breathtaking scenery and native fauna. Plus, with a guide by your side, you increase your chances of spotting red-eyed frogs, sloths, and other rare local wildlife.

Nicaragua, cheapest latin american countries to visit

It’s fascinating to note that the eruption of this volcano gave rise to the Islets of Granada , located within Lake Nicaragua . You can even book this day trip from Granada , which also includes a visit to Ometepe Island , declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

If you’re up for exploring an active volcano, Cerro Negro is a fantastic option. I recommend this guided tour from León , which takes you right to the crater on foot to enjoy the thrill of sliding down this active volcano.

If you’re looking for famous places in Latin America to enjoy volcanic landscapes, pristine nature, and diverse wildlife, I assure you that Nicaragua is one of the best choices.

  • Selina Granada (Granada)
  • Hotel La Omaja (Mérida)
  • Hotel Globales Camino Real Managua (Managua)

15. Uruguay, another must-visit destination for travel in Latin America

Uruguay , aside from being one of the safest countries in South America , also ranks as one of the best countries to visit in Latin America .

I suggest kicking off your exploration in the capital, Montevideo , a city full of history and culture. You can start with this free walking tour of its historic center. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive experience, opt for this half-day tour that will take you to iconic spots like the Legislative Palace , the Centenario Stadium , and the Agricultural Market , among other points of interest. While you’re in Montevideo, consider taking an excursion to Punta del Este , which is widely known for its idyllic beaches, particularly Playa Mansa , famous for the iconic sculpture of “La Mano” (The Hand) emerging from the sands of Punta del Este.

If you plan to continue eastward, explore the charming town of José Ignacio as well as the beautiful Laguna Garzón , a perfect spot for those interested in outdoor activities and tranquil environments.

Uruguay, best latin american places to visit

Montevideo is just the beginning of what Uruguay has to offer, making it one of the best places to travel in Latin America . You can’t miss a visit to the city of Colonia de Sacramento , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a historic neighborhood brimming with culture and tradition. If you want to explore the most emblematic monuments of Colonia de Sacramento, consider this guided tour . But if time is short and you don’t plan to stay overnight, you can opt for this day trip from Montevideo .

Other captivating destinations include Cabo Polonio , a small village drawing water sports enthusiasts and anyone in search of a serene escape in the heart of unspoiled nature and wildlife. Equally fascinating is Punta del Diablo , a place that, although relatively well-connected, remains a tranquil haven far removed from the urban hustle and bustle. Plus, it’s an ideal spot for water activities and surfing.

And finally, if you’re looking for a relaxing vacation, I recommend a visit to the Daymán Hot Springs or the Arapey Hot Springs , both known as the best natural pools in the country.

  • Caña B&B (Montevideo)
  • Bellagio Tower New Apartments (Punta del Este)
  • Taurinas Apartments (Colonia del Sacramento)

Safest countries to visit in Latin America

All the countries mentioned in this guide are safe for travelers, particularly in the most touristy areas. However, if you ever have any doubts, you can refer to our guide on the safest countries in Latin America . We’ve selected these countries based on the statistics from the Vision of Humanity website as well as our firsthand experiences from traveling in these regions.

I also recommend choosing one of the best travel insurance companies when exploring any Latin American country. This way, you’ll be covered in case of illness, accidents, or any issues related to your luggage. We’ve been using Heymondo travel insurance for a while, and their quick and efficient response when we needed assistance has left us quite satisfied. Plus, as a Capture the Atlas reader, you can even take advantage of an exclusive Heymondo discount , so there’s really no reason to travel without insurance.

For a safe and convenient way to manage your finances while abroad, it’s best to avoid carrying large amounts of cash . I personally prefer choosing one of the best cards for traveling abroad ; it’ll help you save on commissions when making payments and withdrawing cash from foreign ATMs. Plus, you won’t need to carry too much money with you.

Staying connected is also vital when visiting Latin America . It not only helps you keep in touch with family and friends but also allows you to contact your travel insurance provider in case of any incidents. You can ensure you have Internet access during your trip by using Holafly eSIM cards , which offer unlimited data in any country. We’ve used these SIM cards ourselves, and they work great. Plus, they come at a reasonable price, and you can even grab a discount for Holafly with our link.

To fully enjoy all the incredible places to visit in Latin America , you should remember to use common sense and trust your intuition , as you would in any other country. Avoid potentially risky areas, especially at night, and steer clear of situations or places that make you feel uneasy. And keep in mind that we have a guide with the safest countries in Latin America in case you find it more reassuring to explore one of those destinations.

What is the difference between South America and Latin America?

The distinction between South America and Latin America can sometimes lead to confusion because these terms refer to different aspects of the continent, and some countries can fall into both categories.

Latin America encompasses all the countries in the Americas where Spanish, Portuguese, or French are spoken, as these languages have their roots in Latin. This includes a total of 20 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

On the other hand, South America is not categorized by the language spoken but rather by its geographical location within the continent, specifically in the southern region. The boundary between Colombia and Panama is the defining line, resulting in a total of 13 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

This means that a South American country can also be considered a Latin American country if it’s situated in the southern region of the continent and if Spanish, Portuguese, or French is spoken.

Would not agree that all the countries in Latin America are safe to visit. Colombia for example is level 3 reconsider travel – many trouists are being found dead with their bank accounts having been emptied beforehand. Express kidnappings are also becoming more common unfortunately in latin america.

Hi Mike, Yes, the increasing violence in Latin America is devastating. While our trips have gone off without a hitch, I know the situation in several countries has worsened.

To help, U.S. News ranked the top places to visit in both regions based on factors like scenery, culture, dining and attractions, as well as traveler votes and expert opinions. Do you have a favorite destination in these regions? Vote below to help us determine the best places to visit in Central and South America. Argentine Patagonia

Chilean patagonia, galapagos islands, torres del paine national park, easter island, rio de janeiro, buenos aires.

best travel destinations latam

Argentine Patagonia is a treat for all travelers, not just those with a penchant for adventure. From its diverse wildlife (such as Magellanic penguins, Andean cats and southern elephant seals) to its majestic Andes Mountains and jaw-dropping glaciers, this region showcases Mother Nature at its best. Even the most amateur of photographers will appreciate the palette of incredible colors on display here. Can't-miss places for first-timers include the Argentine Lake District, Mount Fitz Roy and the Perito Moreno Glacier, which sits 50 miles west of the gateway town of El Calafate.

best travel destinations latam

Chilean Patagonia offers some of South America's most incredible landscapes . The Tierra del Fuego archipelago is a must-visit destination here. These islands are home to storied sites like Cape Horn – the southernmost tip of South America that requires years of experience to expertly sail around – as well as the capital of Porvenir, a small settlement known for its charming Victorian houses and picturesque surroundings. Travelers can also visit the penguin-filled Isla Magdalena, catch a glimpse of humpback whales feeding at Francisco Coloane Marine Park or trek through Torres del Paine National Park, a place so prominent it earned its own spot on this ranking.

best travel destinations latam

The Galápagos Islands are best known for their colorful creatures, ranging from giant tortoises to blue-footed boobies to penguins. The islands are also famous for helping Charles Darwin develop his theory of natural selection. Today, animals still reign supreme (of the more than 120 islands, islets and rocks that comprise the Galápagos archipelago, only four are inhabited by humans). Getting here will cost you, as the remote islands sit about 600 miles off of the coast of Ecuador. Save up for a luxurious small ship cruise to make the journey almost as memorable as the destination.

best travel destinations latam

Reaching this remote national park in Chilean Patagonia isn't easy, but beholding the ice fields of Grey Glacier and the soaring peaks of the Cuernos del Paine are more than worth the trip. And with 448,000-plus acres of diverse land to explore, visitors will find boredom near impossible in this once-in-a-lifetime destination. Some of Torres del Paine's most popular trails include the challenging W Trek (a multiday feat past stunning lakes, mountains and glaciers) and the easier Mirador Las Torres hike. Before venturing into the wild, be sure to stock up on essentials in a nearby city like Puerto Natales.

best travel destinations latam

Costa Rica is a natural wonderland. The tropical country features volcanoes to hike and lush rainforests to traverse on foot or by zip line. Plus, it boasts a refreshingly laid-back culture. Relaxation seekers can immerse themselves in the "pura vida" lifestyle and bask at the beaches in Guanacaste or along the Nicoya Peninsula's roughly 80 miles of coast. No visit would be complete without walking around historic San José and trying traditional delicacies like picadillo de chicasquil, a hash-like dish made with tree spinach. And to indulge on your vacation, consider staying at one of Costa Rica's all-inclusive resorts .

best travel destinations latam

A bucket list destination for travelers all over the world, this remote island (a Chilean territory) sits more than 2,000 miles off of the coast of Chile and enchants adventurers with its distinctive moai statues. These curious, well-preserved stone statues can be found throughout the island, but to ensure you don't miss the island's must-sees and unique history, hire a local guide to show you Rapa Nui National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site that also happens to have one of the world's most beautiful beaches ). Of particular note is Rano Raraku, a volcanic crater that boasts 400 statues.

best travel destinations latam

Colorful colonial architecture and stunning beaches come together in this vibrant Colombian city on the Caribbean coast. The popular old town area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features structures that date back to the 16th century, including a roughly 7-mile stretch of walls that helped fend off naval attacks for centuries. Today, the walls provide excellent vantage points for gazing at the city and sea. The nearby Rosario Islands, with their highly regarded beaches and coral reefs, offer equally breathtaking vistas.

best travel destinations latam

With its scenic beaches, leafy mountains and lively nightlife, Rio de Janeiro makes for a fun getaway any time of year. Whether you're looking to attend the city's larger-than-life Carnival celebration (which takes place in February or March) or explore Brazil's gorgeous natural landscape, Rio has it all. While here, don't miss a visit to the renowned landmark Christ the Redeemer, a 98-foot-tall statue of Jesus Christ that sits at the top of Mount Corcovado. After taking in the attraction's sweeping city views, head down to the coast for a stroll on world-famous Ipanema Beach.

best travel destinations latam

Known as "The City of Eternal Spring" for its year-round temperate weather, Medellín is Colombia's second-largest city. Visit the neighborhood of Comuna 13 (once considered one of the most dangerous areas in Medellín) to take in the colorful buildings and artistic graffiti reflecting the city's history. Ride on one of the outdoor escalators in the neighborhood for spectacular views. For a more Technicolor experience, travel to Medellín in August when the city hosts its annual flower festival where visitors can see extravagant flower arrangements on display. Other popular attractions include El Castillo Museum and Gardens, Plaza Botero and the city's many parks.

best travel destinations latam

Overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Belize offers scenic shorelines, unique wildlife and some of Central America's best dive sites. Snorkeling and diving in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and the Great Blue Hole are major draws, but so are the country's ancient ruins, animal sanctuaries and relaxing beaches. To see Xunantunich and Caracol, two of Belize's best-known Mayan ruins, venture about 75 miles southwest of Belize City to the Cayo District. Meanwhile, nature lovers can visit the Community Baboon Sanctuary or Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, and sun-seekers can head to South Water Caye or the 16-mile Placencia Peninsula for sandy beaches.

best travel destinations latam

Not only does Quito, Ecuador, boast one of the highest elevations in the world among capital cities (9,350 feet above sea level), but the entire city is also a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take time to get yourself acclimated to the high altitude by admiring the historic city center's buildings, which are some of Latin America's best-preserved and least altered. To learn more about Ecuador and to view an impressive collection of pre-Columbian archaeology and Inca artifacts, peruse the Museo Nacional del Banco Central. When you're ready to climb higher, head to the TelefériQo gondola for unparalleled views of Quito.

The Chilean capital has undergone quite the renaissance since it was founded in the 1500s. You'll discover neoclassical architecture rubbing elbows with modern skyscrapers, plus Spanish and European influences intermingling everywhere. The best way to take in the city's unique style is to walk its streets and barrios (neighborhoods), stopping at attractions like the historical Plaza de Armas – where you'll find the Metropolitan Cathedral and Central Post Office – along the way. Additionally, the area surrounding Santiago features numerous wineries and ski slopes.

It's hard not to fall in love with the wide boulevards, alluring architecture and Parisian-style cafes of Buenos Aires. In addition to its good looks, Argentina's capital city is teeming with culture. Plan to visit its world-class National Museum of Fine Arts, colorful Palermo neighborhood and bustling Corrientes Avenue, where you'll find an array of theaters, bars and tango clubs. Then, head to the upscale Recoleta neighborhood to take in some of Buenos Aires' grandest sites, including El Ateneo Grand Splendid (a converted theater that is now one of South America's most beautiful bookstores) and Recoleta Cemetery.

best travel destinations latam

High in the Andes, the Colombian capital has seen a revival in tourism in recent years. Bogotá has been the cultural center of the country for centuries, offering architecturally interesting buildings that line charming cobblestone streets. To get an overview of the city's rich heritage, travelers should check out the Botero Museum's incredible art and the Gold Museum's priceless treasures. Additional must-dos include exploring the beautiful flora at José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden and climbing Monserrate, an imposing hill with a church and shrine at its peak.

best travel destinations latam

Guatemala features the cultural and natural wonders synonymous with Central America while remaining relatively unspoiled. Adventurers seeking off-the-beaten-path excitement can spend their time traversing misty rainforests, climbing active volcanoes, exploring the turquoise pools of Semuc Champey and zip lining over Lake Atitlán. Meanwhile, the charming city of Antigua boasts colonial architecture and cobblestone streets with the looming Volcán de Agua volcano in the background. Like its neighbors, Mexico and Belize, Guatemala is home to several important Mayan ruins, including Tikal and Iximché, and serene beaches, such as the black sand Monterrico .

The Best Places to Visit in Latin America in 2024

Travel+Leisure World's Best Awards 2023 logo in white

Published on: November 21st, 2023

Last modified: April 19th, 2024

Latin America was the first destination we ever offered at Jacada, and we’re passionate about the extraordinary experiences and exquisite luxury this region has to offer. In 2024 we’re excited about overland adventures across the Bolivian high plains, bespoke behind-the-scenes tours in Colombia , wildlife immersion on the Galápagos Islands and discovering new places to visit in Peru and Panama

We’re especially excited about Guatemala , which is experiencing a rebirth in the post-pandemic travel era. And in the Brazilian Amazon , newfound government support for sustainable tourism initiatives means that it’s easier than ever to make a positive impact through travel.

Our expert travel designers have been busy researching. On trips from Ushuaia to Tikal , and almost everything in between, they’ve been able to hand-pick the best places to visit in Latin America in 2024. Our list includes perennial classics that brim with brand new experiences and opportunities to reach lesser-visited regions, and also features more recent favourites that we predict will be positively shaping luxury travel in 2024 and beyond.

If your interest is piqued, we can help you create a bespoke itinerary to enjoy Latin America in style.

Guatemala ’s tourism sector is growing quickly in the post-pandemic travel era, with airlines adding new routes to the country and millions of visitors expected to arrive this year. Even so, it’s still a relatively underexplored destination – which means you’ll find plenty of authentic experiences, uncrowded archaeological sites and opportunities for customised excursions.

best travel destinations latam

Start in the charming city of Antigua with a bespoke tour of its historical sites, museums, restaurants and small businesses. Guatemala is renowned for its textiles, chocolate and coffee, and you can see first-hand how each of these artisanal products is made. We suggest staying at El Convento , an elegant hotel that reflects the colonial history of Antigua.

best travel destinations latam

To witness a one-of-a-kind cultural event, plan your trip to coincide with All Saints’ Day on 1st November. This is when Guatemala’s Kite Festival takes place, with colourful kites filling the skies to honour deceased loved ones. If you’re more interested in ancient culture, don’t miss the archaeological sites of Iximche and Tikal , where you can even camp out amidst the ruins.

best travel destinations latam

The magnificence of Brazil is no secret, with many travellers flocking to the cosmopolitan hubs of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo . But while these cities, and the country’s gorgeous beaches, are certainly worth visiting, in 2024 we’ll also be exploring the lesser-known locations scattered throughout this massive country.

best travel destinations latam

Many of our favourite destinations in Brazil strike a balance between protecting the incredible natural environment while also offering amazing experiences. In the country’s interior you’ll find one of the world’s largest wetland areas –  the Pantanal – and the remote refuge of Casa Caiman . From this environmentally conscious hotel, set at the heart of a 53,000-hectare oasis, you can spot jaguars in the wild with the Onçafari conservation project.

best travel destinations latam

Farther north, Cristalino Jungle Lodge is the perfect place to experience the wonders of the Amazon first-hand. It’s located within a huge forest reserve and relies on renewable building materials, natural ventilation systems, permaculture and solar panels to work in harmony with the natural environment.

best travel destinations latam

In recent years, the Casco Viejo (historic centre) of Panama City has been completely revitalised with urban regeneration projects and new hotel openings. In 2024 we suggest checking out the Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo, a sophisticated hotel set in the building that once housed the iconic Union Club. You can also experience the Panama Canal from a VIP area at the Miraflores Locks, allowing you to skip the crowds and see the canal up close.

best travel destinations latam

Panama has plenty to offer outside of its capital city as well. We love the new Nayara Bocas del Toro, a true tropical paradise featuring private overwater villas in the Caribbean Sea. You can go glamping in the San Blas Islands, meet the Emberá people in the Darién province or spend a week sailing between Panama and Costa Rica on a brand new luxury yacht – including a few nights on your own private island.

best travel destinations latam

In fact, it’ll be easier than ever to combine a trip to Panama with Costa Rica in 2024 – thanks not only to the aforementioned yacht, but also to increasingly frequent flights between these neighbouring countries. Visiting both in the same trip allows you to experience different cultures and explore contrasting landscapes, from lush green jungles to idyllic secluded beaches.

best travel destinations latam

Chile ’s sheer variety of landscapes astound. The desolate Atacama Desert , lush green undulating wine valleys , snow-capped volcanoes of the Lake District and windswept plains of Torres del Paine keep us coming back year after year. In 2024 we want to journey a little further, to places like Chiloé , Aisén or Navarino Island – where the rewards of longer trips mean exploring coastlines, islands, and national parks away from the crowds, and the chance to delve into the Indigenous culture of the Mapuche.

best travel destinations latam

Our travel designer Charles has been on the ground exploring and we’ve been hearing wonderful things about Explora Patagonia National Park , an intimate and peaceful lodge. From here you can navigate some of the worlds most crystalline waters on the Cochrane River, mountain bike across the Patagonian steppe or attempt a high mountain ascent of Tamango or Oportus,.

best travel destinations latam

Galápagos Islands

This is the year to make that once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Galápagos Islands . We recommend booking a suite on a luxury vessel like the Endemic or the Elite . Both of these ships have been working hard on minimising their environmental impact by reducing fuel consumption, using biodegradable products and implementing purified water dispensers to reduce single-use plastics.

best travel destinations latam

If you prefer to stay on land, Galápagos Safari Camp and Pikaia Lodge are also terrific options. Galápagos Safari Camp is renowned for its reforestation efforts, while Pikaia Lodge was the first carbon-neutral hotel to open in the Galápagos. Staying on land affords a little more flexibility and a more bespoke approach to your daily activities, which we find works brilliantly for families.

best travel destinations latam

The islands are a year-round destination, so they can easily slot into your 2024 schedule no matter when you’re planning on travelling. That said, our wildlife expert Lily points out that if you want to see certain animals, the best time to visit the Galápagos varies accordingly.

best travel destinations latam

We know Antarctica isn’t technically part of Latin America, but combining it with Chile or Argentina creates an incredible three- or four-week trip. It goes without saying that this is a destination unlike any other. If you want to embark on a truly remote and thrilling adventure, challenging yourself in extreme conditions, we can’t recommend the White Continent enough in 2024.

best travel destinations latam

You can reach Antarctica by sailing the Drake Passage from Ushuaia , or do a fly-in cruise from Chile to save time. When it comes to ships, we recommend Sylvia Earle , which has the world’s lowest-polluting marine engines, or the Magellan Explorer , which re-uses heat from the engine to warm up the ship – among many other environmentally conscious initiatives. Both of these ships are adventure-oriented, with spacious suites, lovely lounge areas and observation decks and state-of-the-art educational facilities.

best travel destinations latam

Our travel designers Jen and Lily have both returned from Antarctica with incredible stories of sleeping out on the ice, kayaking with whales and extremely brave ice swims. Make sure to keep in mind the best times to visit Antarctica , as some months bring harsh and inhospitable conditions.

best travel destinations latam

Over the past few years, Bolivia has been working hard to establish itself as a tourism destination on par with its popular neighbours. In 2024 you can reap the rewards of those efforts by experiencing lesser-known destinations and rugged adventures that highlight not only the country’s natural beauty, but also its distinctive cultural identity.

best travel destinations latam

Bolivia is best known for the spectacular Salar de Uyuni , which can form either end of an adventurous journey between Bolivia and Chile (with stops at luxurious lodges along the way). Visit the salt flats during the rainy season from November to March to see the famous ‘mirror effect’ – and avoid the crowds that descend during the dry season.

best travel destinations latam

Although Uyuni is not to be missed, there’s much more to discover in Bolivia. The lofty city of La Paz is nothing short of magical – but smaller cities like Sucre , Cochabamba and Potosi are also packed with ancient history and cultural landmarks. Then there are the stunning caves and canyons of Torotoro National Park; the mystical Islands of the Moon and Sun in Lake Titicaca ; and the ancient temples and pyramids of sites like Tiwanaku.

best travel destinations latam

Bolivia borders both Peru and Chile, making it easy to combine with these classic destinations. That said, 2024 could be the perfect year to dedicate more time to exploring this country in depth, rather than just hitting the highlights. This will give you plenty of time to get to know Bolivia’s culture – not to mention its cuisine, from hearty soups to salteñas (crispy baked empanadas).

best travel destinations latam

There are so many reasons to go to Colombia , from the lively cities of Bogotá and Medellín to the coastal paradises of Cartagena and Tayrona . In 2024, we’ll be recommending destinations that have seen the most positive change in the past few years, now with some of Latin America’s most exclusive accommodations and enriching experiences for travellers. For instance, the highland town of Barichara (now easily reachable via a new airport), the tropical grasslands of Los Llanos and the seaside village of Bahía Solano.

best travel destinations latam

While Colombia ’s larger cities offer all the usual urban attractions such as world-class restaurants and museums, these places provide the kind of peaceful escape that only small towns can offer. They also have a growing selection of boutique hotels like Casa Barichara , where you’ll feel right at home.

best travel destinations latam

According to our travel designer Jen, Colombia is one of the best places in Latin America for an off-the-beaten-track honeymoon. You can escape to secluded beach villas, hilltop retreats and luxurious hotels in Bogotá or Cartagena for candle-lit dinners and rooftop sundowners. The variety of activities like horse riding, hiking, salsa classes, tuk tuk rides and hot air ballooning also make Colombia an exciting family destination (ideally with older children or teenagers).

Latin America is a rich, vibrant, diverse region, welcoming millions of international tourists each year. It encompasses 33 countries and nearly 13% of the Earth’s total land area. The best part? There’s SO much to discover here and if you’re planning to visit for the first time, the sheer amount of information can actually be overwhelming. Luckily, we’ve done most of the research for you and narrowed down a list of some of the best places to visit in Latin America, to make your trip planning easier. H ere are the 12 best places to visit in Latin America this year…

12. Belize City, Belize

Belize City is a port city in Central American Belize and one of the most loved Latin America travel destinations. It’s also the historical capital of the nation and part of its charm comes from its colonial houses, sailboats from Haulover Creek, as well as its lively shopping areas.

Love street markets? Take a walk through the centre, where you’ll see street hawkers selling everything from handmade jewellery, wood carvings and other souvenirs. And if you’re a nature lover, visit the Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, which provides refuge for thousands of migratory and resident birds. We also recommend stopping by the Community Baboon Sanctuary, around 30 miles away from the city, in a small Kriol village.

11. Yucatan Peninsula

The Yucatan Peninsula is one of the most popular beach destinations in Latin America, bringing in millions of sun-seeking tourists each year. The area encapsulates parts of Belize and Guatemala, as well as three separate Mexican states: Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche.

What is the Yucatan Peninsula known for?

The Yucatan Peninsula is best known for being the most important Mayan archeological site in Mexico, the Las Coloradas pink lakes, which are used for industrial-scale sea-salt production and of course the vibrant party scene in Cancun. Antigua is a famous Spanish colonial city in Central America, surrounded by volcanoes. While the small city was mainly destroyed by earthquakes in the 17th century, a large portion of it was rebuilt and many historical buildings have since been renovated.

It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site back in 1979 because of its living traces of Spanish culture, its Baroque-style architecture, as well as its many Christian churches and monasteries.

Cartagena has plenty of beaches to choose from, though the best beaches near Cartagena are located at Isla Barú , and on Cartagena’s nearby Rosario Islands . Take a speedboat ride to these islands where tiny boutique hotels offer a Caribbean getaway so affordable you’ll be surprised more travelers haven’t considered it.

valparaiso chile

25. Valparaiso, Chile

It’s impossible not to love Chile’s colorful coastal city of Valparaiso. Steep hillsides make taking the city’s historic funiculars known as ascensores a must for getting around town but offer sweeping bay views from every corner. Endless street art makes taking a street art tour with a local artist one of the best things to do in Chile.

If you’re visiting during the summer, make sure to plan a day trip to neighboring Viña del Mar. The golden shores of this upscale beach town are home to some of Chile’s best beach resorts , coolest restaurants, and an annual music festival that put this city on the map.

Volcano Trail: Waves & Local Ways

I really loved the countries we travelled to. I would have liked to spend more time in Honduras. My biggest dislike was that i think we should have only spent 1 night at the homestay. Although I really valued the time there, however it did become awkward from time to time. I think if we arrived at 3pm and left around 2pm the following day it would have been better. I also didn't find our guide to be the best, but at the end of the trip I heard she was going through a rough bit of time. Had I know earlier I think I would have been more sympathetic. During the tour, we often had to ask her multiple times for trips, she was badly organized, not all information was shared so that we could pack properly or pull out enough money from banks. We also ended up having to book our own coffee tour because we were told everything was closed for Easter. In regards to the accommodation, overall it was decent. I understand that we were paying less for the trip and that hostels would be included. I think it was poor planning to put 8 girls in one room with 1 bathroom was too much, especially when we do activities all day. I also didn't like how the boy was always put into a single room, when he could have shared an all boys dorm.

Central American Journey: Rainforests & Ruins Tour

Central American Journey: Rainforests & Ruins

The tour was far more amazing than what I expected (compared to the one I did in south east Asia). I enjoyed every single day. Sometime the transportation in between to spots were too long but I guess it's part of the experience. I met such great people (I think the G of G'adventure comes actually from there). I had the chance to meet two guides for the whole journey. I have not enough words to tell how amazing they are. Beside their quality and professionalism as guides, they were so helpful, always happy, entertaining and so so so much fun! I truly made friends. They increased my huge appetite of the traveling lifestyle. I can't say enough thank you.

Our Classic Costa Rica tour was wonderful!! Leo, our guide, was the best, and sooo knowledgeable! The tour accommodated every age group, and I made some new friends from all over the world. What a great trip! I will recommend Intrepid to all of my friends. Hope to see you again soon!

Costa Rica Adventure Tour

Costa Rica Adventure

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent vacation The amazing accommodations, delectable cuisine, seamless transportation, would not have been achievable without the guidance of our exceptional tour guide, Lau. Without the support of TruTravel and Lau, the extensive exploration and diverse experiences within the ten-day duration would have been unattainable for me in Costa Rica.   Thanks to the meticulous planning and personal touch provided by TruTravel and the charismatic presence of Lau, I was able to explore diverse regions of this beautiful country and create memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime. Lau played a pivotal role in enhancing the overall quality of the journey. She was a perfect blend of enjoyment and knowledge, demonstrating both care and entertainment throughout the trip. She had insightful recommendations for culinary delights and engaging activities.  It is a rare find to come across someone who can effortlessly blend professionalism with genuine care and charisma. This balance contributed significantly to the success of the journey. Lau was able to provide help dependent that was specifically tailored to each person within the group, going above and beyond to make sure we were all satisfied and taken care of. She was also able to provide various information on questions that were presented and we can see just how much she cared about the people she was with.   Lau’s influence transformed this vacation into a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience.

Mexico Yucatán Experience Tour

Mexico Yucatán Experience

Extremely well organised and planned tour, we packed so much in to the 10 days and had the best time. The value you get for your money is brilliant, with a lot of activities included in the up front price and options to do extra when you are there. Lau the tour guide was amazing, extremely knowledgeable about the area and give great tips on sight seeing, bars, restaurants etc at every stop on the tour. Also as a girl travelling, I have never felt safer as part of her tour group. Great trip if you want to immerse yourself in the culture while also having time to relax on the beach, highly recommend. Only downside was not all the accommodation had AC and it was extremely hot, especially in Bacalar. Other than that amazing!

PERU EXPRESS - 10 days (Lima- Cusco & Puno) with Domestic Flights

When I inquired about the hikes to Humanitay Island & Rainbow mountain, I was given the impression it was easily doable as there is plenty of time & horses could be hired. No mention was made about the problems that could arise due to the high altitude & that there were steep sections that we would have to navigate ourselves. Assurances should not have been so easily given without mentioning the specific difficulties of altitude acclimatisation and the inability to depend on horses for the whole trip. Otherwise well planned and reliable.

From Buenos Aires to La Paz via Uyuni (15 Nights) Tour

From Buenos Aires to La Paz via Uyuni (15 Nights)

This tour was excellent. I would give it 9.5 out of 10 for planning and 9 out of 10 for execution. Value for money was better than 10 out of 10. I have some comments to help you improve your services. Your tour schedule either printed without the RH side if done in letter format, or without the bottom bit if done in landscape. Once the tourist has booked the trip, they do not need all the pictures and marketing guff: dump it, in favour of a more readable itinerary. The tourist needs to know what happens when. Full details of place and time are needed. A tour should indicate not only what time it starts, but also how long it is and what else is necessary. For example you included generic statement that park fees were the tourist's responsibility, but he main Bolivia park fee was incorrect, and there were 2 other park fees that had to be paid which were a surprise. The tourist needs to plan their currency availability. they need to know exactly which days they cross borders, for example. Being picked up in BA is very good, especially as the tourist arrive without A pesos. If the tourist needs to go from bus station to accommodation or accommodation to bus station, then they need to know, how to get there, approx cost of taxi etc, and how to ask for it. Several tours arrive late, I guess that is South America. One day our tour did not arrive atall, but we were rebooked for the following day. No worries. We had booked a private room. The accommodation in the Bolivia Park did not have a private room, unless it had a private bathroom (which we had not contracted for), so they charged us about $30 extra. I have no real problem with paying that and I am not asking for anything from you, but if a private room is not available, you should not promise it. :) The accommodation in BA and the Selina hostals was excellent. Please ensure that all guides are english speaking: most were but our excellent drive in Bolivia was Spanish only. :( Leaving us at midday in Uyuni to wait for a 9:30 bus was a pain in the arse. Overall, well done, we will definitely consider using tourradar again. John Parkinson

The best places to travel, according to a ranking of where people want to visit again.

An amazing part of traveling is discovering a new place, but there’s something special about returning to a beloved destination—which also speaks volumes about what makes a place stand out as one of the best.

So what are the places travelers want to return to the most?

Travel insurance specialists InsureandGo recent issued a report ranking the places that travelers are most eager to revisit . To come up with this list, the researchers looked at almost 500 countries, cities and global tourist attractions, then analyzed thousands of comments on Reddit and numerous online reviews to uncover the places that hold the greatest allure for repeat visits.

“There’s no end to the experiences you can have while traveling, with so many different countries and cities around the globe just waiting to be explored,” Russell Wallace, travel insurance expert at InsureandGo, said in a release. “In some instances, however, traveling to the same place repeatedly can in fact, provide a richer experience. Bringing with it a deeper understanding of a destination, along with local insights and maybe even discovering some hidden gems.”

A spring view of Fujiyoshida and Mt. Fuji in Japan, the country that travelers want to visit most.

Topping the list of countries that travelers yearn to revisit is Japan, which is renowned for its rich culture and diverse offerings. With an impressive 324 mentions on Reddit discussions alone, Japan has clearly enchanted visitors with its captivating blend of tradition and modernity, from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the serene landscapes of Kyoto.

Following closely behind Japan are Italy and Spain, two perennial favorites among globetrotters. With 294 and 209 mentions respectively, these Mediterranean gems captivate visitors with their culinary delights, stunning coastlines and architectural wonders.

When it comes to cities, London—with its iconic landmarks like Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London—reigns supreme as the ultimate destination for repeat visits. Rounding out the top five on the list: Paris, Barcelona and New York City (a tie), then Rome.

When it comes to tourist attractions, Dollywood was named the place travelers want to return to most. Set in the heart of Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, this theme park—partly owned by the legendary Dolly Parton—delights visitors with its unique blend of entertainment, nostalgia and Southern hospitality. Disneyland in California came in at number two. A number of locations tied for the fifth spot on the list, including Yosemite National Park, England’s Blenheim Palace and Tokyo Disneyland.

I Rest My (Suit)Case – These Are The 24 Best Travel Bags For Your Next Trip

Checked bags, carry-ons, and backpacks that are so spacious you'd be set for a week.

Amanda Davis

BuzzFeed Staff

1. A TikTok-famous  travel backpack  you can pack like a suitcase but will still count as the personal item you put under your seat. It even has a shoe compartment, an easy-access pocket for portable charging, and bonus points: it's got a trolley passthrough in the back so you can secure it on your carry-on! *Swoon*

reviewer in a casual outfit takes a selfie with a large backpack, reflecting a practical yet stylish choice for shoppers

This one checks all the boxes: super roomy, has plenty of pockets (including one for shoes and a separate wet bag!), and has a strap that slides down over your luggage handle for easy transport. And reviewers say it meets even Spirit and JetBlue 's personal item rules and fits under airplane seats!

Promising review: "One bag handled a week of travel! This bag is like magic! I fit four pairs of shorts, four shirts, underwear, socks, and a couple of workout outfits with sports bras, two pairs of sandals, four bathing suits, a coverup, a sun hat, toiletries, cosmetics, a laptop, a notebook, three device chargers (computer, phone, and Fitbit) and an electric toothbrush. Even when packed to the max, the weight is comfortably distributed so it doesn’t break your back. It fits under the seat perfectly, too. I bought it when it was 50% off, but I’d pay full price knowing how awesome this bag is for travel." — AlexanderK

Get it from Amazon for  $494.99+  (available in three sizes and 26 colors/styles)

2. Away's best-selling "bigger" carry-on suitcase  that maximizes the space in your luggage...while still being allowed in the overhead bins. A true icon if you ask me! It features a durable hardshell, ~beautifully~ smooth gliding wheels, an interior laundry bag, and more.

Promising reviews: "I love my new bigger carry-on! I t holds so much more than I expected and rolls very nicely . Very happy with the Sorbet Orange color, it's perfect 🥰" — Michele J

"Got lots of compliments on [my] bigger carry-on. It worked great for our trip and held all I needed with room to spare. Rolls like a dream. Now I want bigger ones in the same color!" — Nancy W.

Get it from Away for $295+  (available in 12 colors; also available in eight other sizes , including carry-on and large checked sizes).

3. A 14-inch  under-seat carry-on with wheels  because sometimes a backpack or duffel gets too heavy for your poor ol' shoulders. This will ensure you have everything you need...minus the back pain. I'm looking at you, bag over-stuffers! 👀

P.S. Reviewers say it fits Spirit Airline's personal size requirement!

Promising review: "I use this bag for 2-3 day trips, and it provides more than enough space for one or two changes of clothes, toiletries, and one pair of shoes. The zipper compartment on one side is great for securing individual items that may shift or move around, e.g., toiletry bags, shoes, and hairdryers. While the other open side, secured by a strap, is ideal for folded clothes. There is even a smaller zipped pocket on the zipper compartment side for small items like important documents, passports, or books. The bag zips closed easily and securely. The handle easily slides up and down with the click of a button...The hard case is surprisingly lightweight yet sturdy. Easily fits under airplane seats and in overhead bins. Recommended." — CAMarathonRunner

Get it from Amazon for $119.99+ (available in eight colors; also available in larger sizes and multiple sets).

4. A matching duffel, carry-on, and toiletry bag set  with your pick between a backpack or a duffel bag. The carry-on is everyone's favorite style — with spinner wheels, of course. And the set comes in the cutest, easy-to-spot brown trim, so there'll be no mishaps at baggage claim.

Promising review: "Super affordable and stylish set. I received several compliments at the airport and these actually look much more expensive than they are. Lots of room, and I was able to fit A LOT inside. Would recommend." — Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $99.99+  (available in seven colors and multiple set sizes).

5. THEE slimmest suitcase anyone has probably ever seen. It's fully collapsible and perfect for constant travelers who have limited storage space at home. This baby lies flat and can be stored under your bag or in the back of your closet without taking up much space at all.

Promising reviews: "I got so many compliments on this bag! It was such a smooth glide through the airport. Went seamlessly from surface to surface. I didn't see anyone with the same bag in the four airports that I passed through. I got the yellow color , and it has not disappointed! Totally worth the money. Did not scratch. The inside lining feels like silk. It is such great quality! Was delivered promptly." — Mary

"I bought two of the Rollink carry-ons for a cruise. We wanted to be able to fold and store easily in a small cabin. Works great for that. Another thing is that its not only thin but lightweight. It also rolled just fine and looked great! Just this extra thing that made a great holiday even better." — Judy P.

Get it from Amazon for $156.99+  or straight from Rollink for $185+ (available in three sizes and eight colors at both retailers).

6. An  anti-theft backpack  that opens from the back instead of the front, which means pickpocketers won't get the opportunity to ruin your trip. It's super cute too!

Former BuzzFeed Shopping writer Britt Ross says: "I recently returned from Italy, and as someone who prefers a small backpack over a purse most of the time, I thought this would be a great purchase, as it would give me some peace of mind as I spent hours wandering around different cities. I'm happy to report that after two weeks of daily use, I'm convinced I'll be bringing it on every trip I take from now on. It's small enough so that it doesn't feel bulky or uncomfortable throughout the day, but has plenty of space for everything you'd need on the go — I fit my wallet, sunscreen, glasses case, hand sanitizer, water bottle, snacks, and even a small umbrella, with room to spare! And the fact that it opens from the back means someone would literally have to pry it off of you to get to your valuables. I bought the medium size in black pebbled faux leather, and it's actually quite cute for the price!"

Promising review: "I bought this backpack to use as a purse while on vacation, and it worked perfectly. The main pouch is protected when you’re walking around because the zipper is protected by your back. There are also two side zippered pockets, one of which kept my phone and the other perfect for sunglasses and a few other items that I wanted to access more easily. I loved that I could wear it as a purse to dinner but use it as a backpack during the day so that my shoulder didn’t get tired. I highly recommend this item!" — Allison

Get it from Amazon for $26.99+ (available in two sizes and 14 styles).

7. A Monos Carry-On Pro suitcase with a convenient sleeve for your laptop, notebook, passport, glasses, and more! The front section has three padded pockets to keep items from being smushed and create a more organized travel experience.

Person packing a laptop into a hard-shell suitcase, ideal for secure travel essentials

Promising review: "This is a fantastic carry-on suitcase! ...I travel 200,000 air miles per year. I need a carry-on that is lightweight, durable, and flexible. Also, I will be traveling extensively in Europe and thus need a carry-on that is compliant with the more strict international carry-on size limits...The interior design of the Monos carry-on maximizes space. I like that the bag opens into two halves. When open, the right side of the bag has a compression pad that reduces the volume of my clothing by about 40%. Impressive for a built-in compression pad. I have easily packed for three or four days on just the right side of the bag by using the built-in compression pad.

The left side of the bag has a zippered compartment that easily holds two or three days' worth of clothing. It seemingly doubles as a divider for wet or soiled clothing. You could also use it for incidentals or health and beauty items.

The front of the bag has a zippered pouch that accommodates a laptop computer or an iPad and other travel items such as a passport, earbuds, headphones, etc. This pouch is extremely well equipped with zippered pockets and ample room to reach a hand in to retrieve items in-flight...

The exterior design is beautiful. Sleek, minimalist design with quality materials that look and feel like a high-end suitcase. The zippers are durable and of the highest quality I have had on a suitcase. The wheels move effortlessly across all types of surfaces. The bag itself is lightweight (I can lift it with one finger when empty) and handles the weight well when fully packed. The telescoping handle extends higher than my Hartmann carry-on and is extremely stable when trolling my backpack...

As a person who travels extensively I can say with confidence this is the best carry-on bag on the market. I am extremely pleased with this high-quality carry-on bag!" — Douglas V.

Get it from Monos for $325 (available in 12 colors).

Pssst.... If you're on a budget, Amazon has a similar suitcase for only $99.99 ! 👀

8. A genius hardshell suitcase with a cup holder *and* a phone holder so you can sip and watch with ease while you travel! It also has a charging port for any electronics, and reviewers say that the phone holder works great as a bag-, hat-, and neck pillow holder, too. *Immediately adds to cart*

Three-piece smart luggage set with integrated tech features, open to show compartments

360 Spinner Wheels:  ✅

Promising review: " Wheels feel like gliding on air! I really like the open at the top as it is lighter and faster to open if you need to get into your luggage. You can use any power source you want inside. Has just enough flex to stuff but is hard enough to keep its shape and fit easily in the overhead bin of airplanes. Liked that I could use the cup holder and still use it as a footstool at the same time! TSA lock works slick. Smooth surface looks inviting for artwork or stickers IMO." — Sunddanse

Get it from Amazon for $189.99+ (available in three sizes and five colors).

9. An aesthetically pleasing cloud-like hardshell suitcase  that, according to reviewers, lives up to the look and glides just as smoothly as you think it would. It's lightweight, features 360-degree spinner wheels, *and* has a TSA combination lock so that your airport journey is a ~breeze~.

Promising reviews: "Beautiful suitcase! Very light but very sturdy and can hold a lot! Moves easily in the airport and easy to lift in and out of the car!!" —Marysia M.

" So cute and well made!  I bought this suitcase based on looks alone. It is just so adorable and a perfect carry-on size. I traveled with it for the first time last week and was very impressed with the quality and construction. I dragged it all over Manhattan, and the wheels work like a dream. The zippers are also very hardy and the handle extension is very smooth. Everywhere I took it, I got compliments from strangers on the street. I will definitely consider buying more sizes from this brand." — Anne Lindeberg

Get it from Amazon for $149.99+ (available in three sizes, four colors, and a set of two).

10. A Beis backpack  with a trolley passthrough ✅, comfortably padded straps ✅, TWO water bottle pockets ✅, and it opens up wide like a suitcase. Somehow, this beauty still looks sleek and modern. It's perfect for weekend trips (or overnight trips for you over-packers) and works great as a personal item, too. Thank you, Shay Mitchell!

Model standing sideways wearing a white shirt, cargo trousers, sneakers, and a backpack

Traveling pro and BuzzFeed Editor Elizabeth Lilly loves this backpack:

"I snagged this backpack after hearing my colleague Chelsea Stuart sing its praises. I had a trusty (now discontinued) InCase backpack I used as a personal item, and it served me well on dozens of trips for about five years. But I wanted a bag that opens up like a suitcase for easier packing. Since buying, I've taken it on countless weekends and international trips. Including, like I said up there ^, to Iceland with just this and a space vac bag full of clothes.

Inside, you'll find a mesh zippered pocket and a plastic pocket perfect for your toiletries. I can fit enough wet toilet toiletries in the second pocket as I'd be allowed to carry on for a plane. In the mesh pocket, I put other necessities like cotton swabs, medicine, eyeglasses, etc. The main compartment is deceptively deep, so you can easily roll clothes and Lego-fit them in together without using packing cubes. In fact, I fit all of the stuff in the second picture in that section (a romper, PJs, a bikini, sunscreen, five pairs of undies, a pair of jean shorts, a nap dress, three pairs of socks, two pairs of sandals, two T-shirts, a slip skirt, sleep mask, curling iron, mini flat iron, makeup bag, and tote bag). AND it has stretchy X-straps to keep it all secure like you'd see in a roller suitcase so when I unzip it, everything stays put.  But before I forget, there's a separate cushioned laptop pocket close to the backpack straps that I found works well for books or a Kindle if your travel leaves you laptop-less.

I love that this backpack has DEEP side pockets so your umbrella or water bottle won't fall out. In fact, I stuck a flashlight and an umbrella in one side pocket. (You could  always  use a flashlight.)  Plus! It has a generously sized pocket on the front of the backpack with easy access for sunglasses, snacks, writing pens...all sorts of those little extras you need to access quickly. To top it all off, the backpack straps and top handle are STURDY. I felt totally secure toting it around and slinging it into overhead storage compartments on the trains. I love the look and construction of it with faux leather and sturdy black canvas, and the trolley passthrough to easily fit on my roller suitcase I'm about to drag through a bunch of airports. At nearly $80, this isn't the cheapest backpack option but if you're a frequent traveler, you'll get so much mileage on it and seriously save on some baggage fees, making it well worth the cost. This backpack and I are going places, for sure. And if something ever happens to it — though I highly doubt it because it's SO sturdy — I'll 100% buy another. I'm obsessed!"

Get it from Beis Travel for $88 (available in eight colors).

11. Plus a matching  Beis roller suitcase  ( carry-on and checked size !) that features all of the good stuff: a cushioned trolley handle, a side-carry handle with a weight detector, AND a retractable bag strap. The TSA lock and 360-degree spin wheels are given at this point.

Person packing a suitcase with clothes, binoculars, and hiking boots for a trip

BuzzFeeder Elizabeth Lilly ALSO loves this Beis suitcase:

"Like I already said, I own this and have been using it for about six months after I broke a wheel on a Samsonite suitcase that, tbh, I totally treated like it was a rental car. I most recently took it on a 10-day trip to Paris, Bologna, and Milan, which entailed me flying three times. I was able to fit all my stuff (with extra room!) in this and my beloved  Beis backpack , using the trolley pass for my backpack over the top handle for this suitcase for super easy airport navigation. The wheels are the smoothest of any suitcase I've ever used, and I'm able to glide around the airport around slow walkers, families taking up way too much room, and people who've apparently never been to an airport before. This suitcase also comes with two opaque bags that are great for dirty laundry, and the zip-closed side has a clear pocket where I like to stash my  Apple AirTag  so I can quickly check that, yep, it's in my suitcase. The straps on the other side make it easy to pack in stuff without having to expand the zipper to allow for more room. (On my most recent trip, I packed TWO midi-length coats in addition to the one I wore on the plane.) Even though I travel about every chance I get (these days, I'm on a plane nearly every month), I think I'm going to be able to get a very long stretch use out of this beaut!"

Get it from Beis Travel for $218+  (available in 10 colors and in sizes: carry-on , medium checked , and large checked ).

12. Or a more affordable  colorful hard-side roller suitcase  because it's earned praise like "super sturdy" and "durable" from reviewers. It also easily fits in overhead bins, so no more worrying will it/won't it as you line up to board.

13. A durable Timbuk2 laptop backpack with so many pockets and compartments, you'll probably find a new one on every trip. This baby will keep your laptop nice and safe (even without a case or cover) AND I've personally seen it hold a weekend's worth of clothes!

Woman modeling a backpack with a roll-top closure and side zipper

My partner has had this backpack for YEARS (he did the custom colors option ) and still uses it daily. Whether he's commuting to work, to a coffee shop, or away for the weekend — this is literally the bag he'll grab, no questions asked. He says it's incredibly durable, and I think it still looks great even after constant use!

Get it from Timbuk2 for $89+ (available in three colors or a custom option).

14. A genius personal item suitcase with *removable wheels*  because some airlines charge an arm and a leg just for carry-on (you know who you are!). This suitcase will get you movin' through the airport quickly and still meet most personal item size requirements. Just be sure to take your  wheels off before wheels up.

Take OFF luggage is a small biz.

Promising review: "I refuse to pay the outrageous cost of checking a bag or carry-on. Once you take the wheels off, this fits perfectly into the sizing thing for Frontier, so I don't have to pay anything.  Fits quite a bit of stuff in it as well. So far, I've used it on a four-day trip to California and a three-day trip to Las Vegas. We are going on a 10-day trip to Puerto Rico soon on Frontier, and again, I don't want to pay for bags, so I made sure to book a place with a washer/dryer; otherwise, this would probably be too small for 10 days." —S.  Denzel

Get it from Amazon for  $119.99  (available in four colors).

15. A  Calpak Luka Duffel  you won't be able to travel without ever again (trust me). This bag is ROOMY, has a separate compartment for shoes to keep your clothes and toiletries clean and is comfortable enough for long travel days.

model zipping up a cream-colored backpack with shoes inside, demonstrating packing functionality

I own the Luka Duffel in the color ' oatmeal ', and I use it EVERY TIME I travel. Whether I use it solo for a short weekend trip or as a personal item with a carry-on and a checked bag. Either way, this duffle will definitely be with me. My favorite part has to be the exterior shoe compartment, but I also love that there are TONS of spacious pockets inside and outside the bag — there's even one hidden in the convenient trolley sleeve. The puffy material is also water-resistant and makes the straps comfy, too (although I still appreciate the long adjustable shoulder strap that comes with it). I love it!

Get it from Nordstrom for $128 (available in three colors) or straight from Calpak for $128+ (available in two sizes and 18 colors).

16. A  convertible garment duffel bag with protective lining if you're traveling with important clothing that you can't bear to fold and stuff into a suitcase. This is the perfect way to keep items pristine without losing extra carry-on space.

A reviewer's gray duffel bag with a zipper and carrying straps on a white background

This bag has lots of pockets inside as well!

Promising review: "I bought this as a solution to my frequent travel for work. I wanted something to store my shirt and ties and also any extra shoes and items. This is perfect! It has some really thought-out pockets, clips, zippers, etc. It's great-looking and the materials seem like it will last a long time. If I were ambitious, I could probably bring my whole wardrobe in this thing, but that might be packing it pretty tight. I like extra room. This thing has plenty of room though, so you could easily do a weekend with this without much of an issue for space. Highly recommended!" — Al Jur

Get it from Amazon for $39.99 (available in five colors and two styles).

17. Water- and stain-resistant softside expandable luggage great for those times when you need just a taaad  more room in your suitcase. Simply unzip the extender for an extra two inches!

Promising review : "This is my second suitcase of this size and brand for checked baggage. The first one lasted seven years with regular use... We’ve dragged this across Europe and found it to be the easiest suitcase to manage. It’s roomy and weighs so much less than others. T he wheels don’t squeak or stick, easy to turn ." — aimeelewis

Get it from Amazon for $197.62 (available in 14 colors and multiple sizes, but note only the larger checked size is expandable!).

18. A lightweight  three-piece luggage set  for the bigger trips and the over-packers like myself. This set includes a carry-on, a small checked bag, AND a large checked bag size.

pic of reviewer with the three-piece luggage set in a yellow color

Check it out on TikTok here .

Promising review:  "I bought this a few months ago when I knew I'd be flying across the country (more or less) twice this past spring/summer; it was the first new luggage I had bought in about 25 years. I've taken the set on several trips now — two round-trip flights with plane changes, a couple of two-night road-trip hotel stays, a six-day 1,800-mile road trip, and a mandatory wildfire evacuation, and I really, really like it. It rolls like a dream on hard floors, sidewalks, and parking lots — makes it easy for two people to manage three suitcases, each with a laptop bag or duffel attached. The bright red color (my favorite shade of red) really pops and makes it easy to pick out of a luggage carousel. It's lightweight and goes in and out of a hatchback with ease. This set truly makes travel even more fun. Well worth the money." — Rachel

19. OR a  14-inch and 20-inch carry-on set  you can use together or separately on an upcoming flight, but just know they'll both comfortably meet most size requirements. You can even use the 20-inch for yourself and give the smaller 14-inch to your kiddo! How adorable would that matching set look?

Somago is a small biz specializing in luggage.

Promising review: "Bought this after committing to traveling only with a carry-on. I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a carry-on, but I also didn’t want to go too low and the product faulty. I found this to be a happy medium. It survived the streets of Greece, hills, rough and uneven terrain, ferries, stairs, and plane rides. The wheels offer a smooth ride. I stuffed it to the max with 24 lbs worth of clothing (for reference). I did use packing cubes on one side, though. Zipper handled it well, and the case held its shape. Overall, a great buy and highly recommend." — SR

20. A large 'n' spacious  convertible travel backpack  that turns into a duffel, too — just attach the side straps! It has tons of easily accessible pockets for things like your phone, laptop, passport, etc. And when being used as a duffel, the backpack straps can be hidden behind a sneaky flap.

Model showcases a versatile canvas backpack in three poses, highlighting its function and style, suitable for travel or shopping

Promising reviews: " Purchased in Dec. 2021 and have used it regularly. Will easily hold everything I need for a long weekend, plus a laptop and electronics. Pockets galore! The best feature is the super-rugged design: The fabric, the stitching, and especially the hardware are all heavy-duty. Best zippers I've ever seen on a piece of luggage. You can carry it like a backpack or zip up the cover over those straps and use the provided shoulder strap. I like the sturdy grab handle on the front.

There is a pocket on the side that could hold a water bottle, but it might be a snug fit if you stuff the thing full (I do). The shoulder strap is unpadded, although the backpack straps are excellent. It's a bit pricey but I've seen lesser bags out there for more. Well worth it. My daughter has one and flies everywhere with it." — Donald Drennon

Get it from Amazon for  $76.68  (available in five colors).

21. Or a 22-inch/63-liter  convertible backpack-to-rolling suitcase  so you can have all the versatility you want when packing and  traveling. Left with a lightweight backpack but did some *major* shopping during the trip? Now you can just convert your bag to roll so you can carry all of your new goodies with ease.

360 Spinner Wheels:  ❌

And! It comes with three packing cubes.

Promising review: "I have been looking for a bag like this for two years. I wanted to have the ability to pack as much as I could for my often weekend conferences or week-long trips with carry-on only. I wanted the handle to be high enough to slip on a backpack and also be able to pack the backpack full of clothes or use it for day trips. I was not expecting it to be stable when full, thinking since it had only back wheels, it would just fall over. It stays up when packed full. I love the charging area holder inside the small backpack. The laptop area holds my MacBook Pro, my notebook, and my book. I the front pocket. I use it for my cords, and the inside mesh pocket is great for valuables. The main compartment backpack can be packed really fully And you can tighten to reduce strain on the zippers with the clip buckles. FINALLY. My favorite is the length of the handle; I’m 5'10", and the handle goes all up to my belt buckle when I stand next to it. Very easy to grab and maneuver. All in all, I love this bad and will tell everyone about it." — Zack Sperow

Get it from Amazon for $146.99  (also available in gray).

22. And a  fold-up duffel  if you just know the shopping will get out of hand and you'll need more space for all the vacation gifts you're returning with. This foldable duffel bag won't take much space on your way there, but will be VERY helpful on your way back!

model placing passport on top of blue duffel, which is under the airplane seat in front of them

It folds into a tiny pouch when not in use, is tear and water-resistant, and even has a separate side pocket for shoes. There's also a side strap that slides easily over your roller luggage handle.

Promising review: "We bought this to take with us when we visited our daughter who is studying abroad for four months. We figured she would not have enough room in her luggage when it was time to come home. Folded up, this bag was so compact and lightweight, it took up almost no room in our own luggage for the trip over. Then, sure enough, she had a ton of clothes and shoes to send home with us and packed this bag full. We checked the bag, and it made it through two international flights without a scratch. The BEST feature is the side strap that allows you to slide it over the handle of a rolling suitcase so you don't have to carry it. This is probably the most practical and the best-value item I have purchased in years. " — Tosa Mom

Get it from Amazon for  $18.99  (available in 16 colors/patterns).

23. A chic carry-on suitcase with a power bank that will probably (definitely) be your new go-to when traveling. It features an odor-proof laundry bag, a hard-case shell with "crush-proof" bumpers for extra protection, and — the main attraction — an ejectable portable battery. It's cute, it's roomy, AND it charges your electronics? Sign. Me. Up!

model sitting next to the black suitcase while charging a phone from it

Promising review: "I've been looking for a carry-on replacement for some time. My last carry-on was from 2007, so it was super old and not very good. Now that I have my July Carry On, I couldn't be more pleased. It's so good from functionality to style. I love the laundry bag — it's great that I don't have to remember to take my own separate laundry bag with me anymore + the charging is so useful. The wheels are silent and smooth — so much so that on the slightest decline, the bag will 100% roll away from you. The bumpers are a bit scratched after some use, but it's hardy/designed to protect what's inside, and I accept that there will be some of that happening on long-haul flights. I really enjoy the personalization as well — I had my name and a little frog etched on the top — so cute!" — Ameeka N.

Get it from July for $250.75+ (originally $295; available in 10 colors).

24. And lastly, a  neck pillow you can stuff with clothing  — perfect for anyone who always says, "Ugh, I should've packed that one outfit!" whenever they travel. You can *literally* fit a whole outfit in this neck pillow, and zero airline rules will be broken! 👏🏾

neck pillow stufed with clothes and looped on a suitcase handle

Check out a TikTok showing how someone used a similar neck pillow  to just take that and a personal item onto a RyanAir flight that was charging for hand luggage.

Promising review: "The Tube Pillow was a savior on my last trip. It held a surprising amount of clothes and doubled as a dirty laundry bag . I used it as an on-the-lap pillow... for extra storage without extra fees, it's worth it!" — Sharon

Get it from Amazon for $43.95 .

LATAM Airlines Boosts Yearly Earnings Outlook After Solid Q1 Results

Reuters

By Gabriel Araujo and Kylie Madry

SAO PAULO/MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Chilean carrier LATAM Airlines hiked its earnings forecasts for this year on Thursday, backed by a strong first-quarter performance and increased demand.

LATAM sees its revenues ranging from $12.8 billion to $13.1 billion for the year, up from a previous estimate of $12.4 billion to $12.8 billion.

Meanwhile, its adjusted EBITDAR - earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortization and restructuring or rent costs - for the year were estimated at a record $2.75 billion to $3.0 billion, up 10% to 22% from 2023.

The previous estimate in December had been for between $2.6 billion and $2.9 billion.

In a presentation to journalists, LATAM executives cited boosted operations, cost-containment measures and an improved capital structure as the reasoning behind the fresh EBITDAR outlook.

In the first quarter, LATAM brought in $796 million in EBITDAR. Net profit more than doubled in the quarter to $258 million, from revenues up 18% to $3.32 billion.

Passenger traffic, as measured by available seat kilometers (ASK), grew 17.5% in the quarter, topping the pre-pandemic capacity logged in 2019.

LATAM said the increase came as it moved a record number of passengers in the quarter and upped its occupation levels on flights.

Meanwhile, LATAM's passenger costs were steady in the quarter at 4.3 cents per ASK, the carrier said, while generating $137 million in cash.

LATAM's liquidity "allows us to be competitive, to grow more steadily, to more calmly take on new projects and to obtain better terms with providers," Chief Financial Officer Ramiro Alfonsin told journalists.

The carrier, which currently operates a 330-plane fleet, is waiting on several aircraft deliveries this year, Alfonsin said.

LATAM Airlines said late last month that it was no longer seeking to acquire Boeing B737 planes, opting to look for alternative narrowbody aircraft after talks failed.

Alfonsin said that LATAM was targeting Airbus' A320 or A321 aircraft in the absence of B737s, but that the carrier was open to alternatives.

Alfonsin said going forward LATAM would deleverage "more than expected" after closing out the quarter with a financial net debt to adjusted EBITDAR ratio of 1.9 times. He later added that the firm was weighing a debt refinancing later this year.

Vero Beach Air Show 2024: Best places to watch Blue Angels perform this year

The Vero Beach Air Show is this weekend.

The best view of the show, especially the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, will be the Vero Beach Regional Airport. Tickets are $25 each for prime viewing and event displays.

Otherwise, here are six other places to catch a glimpse of the air show this weekend.

Walking Tree Brewery

Grab a pint of local craft beer, such as the nationally award-winning Babycakes oatmeal stout, and watch from the outside patio at Walking Tree Brewery. The brewery, which opened in a former World War II aviation supply warehouse in 2016, is just south of the airport. The building uses large industrial fans instead of air conditioning.

3209 Dodger Road, Vero Beach; 772-217-3502;  Website

BigShots Golf

Work on your golf swing while you get a glimpse of the air show at BigShots Golf, just east of the airport. The outdoor golf entertainment venue is like Top Golf or Drive Shack. The two-story facility on 10 acres is powered by BigShots proprietary golf technology. It has a full-service restaurant, two bars and 30 climate-controlled tee boxes with tables and couches.

3456 U.S. 1, Vero Beach; 772-979-4653;  Website

Riverside Cafe

"Cruise to the Riverside" Cafe — shoutout to Jake Owen — and grab a seat on the outside deck, if you can, to catch a glimpse of the air show to the west. The restaurant along the Indian River Lagoon is a great spot to barhop by boat, responsibly, because it doesn’t charge customers to dock and dine.

3341 Bridge Plaza Drive, Vero Beach; 772-234-5550;  Website

Riverside Park

The city park is on the west side of the barrier island, near the base of the Barber Bridge, along the Indian River Lagoon, facing the airport. Riverside Park is dog-friendly, includes a walking track, features picnic areas and also has public boat ramps.

3200 Riverside Park Drive, Vero Beach; 772-567-2144;  Website

In flat Florida, the highest vantage points tend to be bridges. In Vero, the northern Merrill P. Barber Bridge (State Road 60) and the southern Alma Lee Loy Bridge (17th Street) are close enough to the airport to give bridge walkers and runners a decent view of the air show.

If you have access to any type of watercraft — boat, kayak, paddleboard, even pedal boat — there’s nothing more Treasure Coast than watching something in the sky from the Indian River Lagoon. Launch from the Vero Beach City Marina public boat ramp.

3611 Rio Vista Blvd., Vero Beach; 772-231-2819 or 772-978-4960;  Website

This Is the No. 1 Surf Destination in the World

Hossegor, located along the southwest coast of France, was just named the best destination to surf.

best travel destinations latam

Vsevolod Vlasenko/Getty Images

The World Surf League's championship tour is well underway, bringing the best professional surfers to places like Australia, Brazil, southern California, and beyond to paddle and battle it out on some of the best breaks on Earth. And while you probably won't be getting out into the lineup with Kelly Slater, Carissa Moore, Griffin Colapinto, Tatiana Weston-Webb, or Gabriel Medina any time soon, they at least may have inspired you to want to go out and surf on your own. And the travel insurance experts at Confused.com have a few suggestions on where you should go.

The website released its list of the best surf destinations in the world, a study based on wave quality and surfer satisfaction via data from Surf-Forecast , and overall search interest via Google search data. After digging into all the numbers, the team named Hossegor, located along the southwest coast of France, the best destination to surf.

"Hossegor ranks as the best destination for surfing in the world, with an overall score of 8.16/10. Hossegor offers reliable, excellent conditions for surfing and is known for its hollow and fast-breaking waves favored by experienced surfers. It has an average surfer rating of 4.25, and 48 percent of the recorded waves are clean and surfable." The team also noted in the results that the best time to visit is during the region's fall shoulder season in October when flights and hotels are at their cheapest.

Hossegor was joined on the list by the legendary Mavericks, located just outside of Half Moon Bay, California, in second place, followed by Tofino, Canada, known for its year-round surf and fantastic wildlife spotting (seriously, watch out for whales here).

Rounding out the top 10 spots are The Bubble in the Canary Islands; Biarritz in France; Cloudbreak on Tavarua Island in Fiji; Carrapateira in Portugal; Ponta Preta in Maio, Cape Verde; Uluwatu and Kuta in Bali, Indonesia; Pasta Point in the Maldives; Puerto Escondido, in southern Oaxaca, Mexico; and Byron Bay in New South Wales, Australia.

While yes, this list is fantastic, it's chock full of spots that would easily be rated as expert-only. (Seriously, please do not paddle out to places like Mavericks or Cloud Break unless you really know what you're doing.) So we thought we'd give you three more suggestions for places to go surf if you consider yourself more of a beginner or beginner-intermediate, and asked our friends at The Inertia for their input. Here's what they (and we) suggest.

Waikiki, Hawaii

If you're going to learn to surf, you might as well do it in the birthplace of the sport — Hawaii. Waikiki is a prime destination, as it often offers soft, rolling waves in beautiful azure waters. Plenty of schools are ready to teach you all the ins and outs, including Kahu , which says 95 percent of its students stand up with one lesson. And, as a bonus, you can drive over to Pipeline and see the pros surf on some of the most pristine waves on Earth.

Nosara, Costa Rica

The tiny town of Nosara has become an ultra-popular destination for beach-goers, and for good reason. Not only is it stunning, but it also offers plenty of coastline for those who want to surf. Both Nosara Surf School and Nosara Surf Academy are great options and offer lessons for beginners, intermediates, and those looking to take things to the advanced level.

Cocoa Beach, Florida

Florida may not be the first place that comes to mind for surfing, but you absolutely should not overlook Cocoa Beach if you want to paddle out. Not only does it offer smooth waves, but it's also the hometown of surfing's greatest athlete, Kelly Slater. So really, you'll be surfing in the shadow of greats. Make a reservation with Cocoa Beach Surf School and get out in the water ASAP.
