Knowsley Safari
Knowsley Safari is an exciting day out for all animal-lovers – not just for kids. Who wouldn’t want to watch their car’s windscreen wipers being expertly deconstructed by some cheeky little baboons?
The safari drive is a real highlight of any visit. What’s more, entry to the park means you can go round as many times as you want.
The five-mile trip takes you past camels, white rhinos, ostriches, lions, yaks, deer, antelopes and baboons. Those who don’t want to risk the condition of their vehicle can take the car-friendly route. There is a baboon bus you can book on to for an extra six quid, so you can get up close to the animals without car calamities.
There’s plenty to see on foot too. The tiger trail, sea lions and mischievous meerkats are probably the biggest draws, but there are also birds of prey, giraffes and tapirs.
If the animals can’t hold your kid’s attention, there’s also a play area and a few amusements. There’s even a train if you can’t face walking all the way to the red river hogs. There are plenty of picnic tables dotted around should you wish to bring a packed lunch.

Fantastic, even without a car
We visited the safari park today and what a fantastic day even without a car. You pay £7.50 to get in and then £5 for a bus that takes you around the park with a tour guide telling you all about the animals. There is a fair ground with rides, there is also sea lion shows, parrot shows, and a outdoor park. My children loved it and the food was pretty cheap aswell. Great day out.
Our visit today started with a feeling that we have made a mistake to come on a bank holiday. There were long queues right from the safari entrance and it felt like this is going to be money wasted. But we didn't lose hope and kept going on a slow pace. Getting at lion's reserve it becomes a little excited. Most of the time lions are lazy but If they get active and come closer to the car then it's a sight not to miss. Monkeys are the real highlight from the day. We kept a couple of bananas on the dashboard that attracted plenty of monkeys to our car. They sat on bonnet and hanged from side mirrors doing their little fights and mischiefs. We spent a lot of time in the monkey area and it was fun. Emu and rhinos are good as they were very close. There are too many deers and cow like creatures which actually stay in herds, mostly at small distance from the car's path. That's basically it for safari drive. But there are plenty of other things which fills up your day like sea lion show, which is good. In the end we went for safari drive one more time and it was pretty quite this time. We spent another hour mainly with lions and monkeys. Lions were more active this time too.
had a great day getting up close and personal with the animals. Lions were fantastic never been that close to a big cat before, the baboons were so funny unfortunately we lost our rear windscreen wiper to a particularly tenacious young baboon but it was more than worth it. Bat forest is really worth a visit too
Visited over the easter weekend. We arrived at gate opening time. Good value, the children loved it. We arrived at 10 am and had completed the park by 2pm. Pros: 1) good on a rainy day / or with tired children as you drive round, 2) they have extended the walking zoo part with the meerkats, bat cave, you can see the birds of pray, walk to the elephants and through the giraffe house. 3) the sea lion show is good. 3)good coffee. Cons: 1) not enough information on the animals, 2) too many cars - it might be better if people got a time to enter, 3) although the sea lion show is good I don't think it's changed much over the years! 4) not a lot of toilets! Tips, get on the safari early, go to the loo before the drive. Be prepared for you car to be broke!!
After travelling 1 hour to get there, you get to the front gate and first thing you see is a hole load of nothing. Further in you see a lot of mundane, boring, cannon fodder animals to make it look full, even donkeys make an appearance. The queues for lion enclosure aint worth it. Most of the time I was looking for quickest route out. I was so sick of driving by this point I was rushing round most of the boring stuff to the monkeys which were the highlight. After you finish dont bother getting out of your car just drive home. The attractions at the end (if you can even call them that) are so insignificant I can't even be bothered writing something to say bad about them, JUST DON'T!! If you like deers, birds and massive queues then you're in for a treat.
Large parkland with partition enclosures for animals. There is a drive through system in place so beware of vehicle parts being dismantled. Small Seal show and good cafeteria.
