Getting to and from Ocean Quay

• Bus 25 and metro : Take bus 25* from the bus stop Oceankaj located in terminal 1. Get off at Orientkaj metro station and take the M4 line towards Kongens Nytorv. Change at Kongens Nytorv to the M2 line towards Copenhagen Airport. The duration of the trip is approximately 40 minutes. You will need a valid 3-zone ticket, which costs 30 DKK.
• Bus 164 and metro : Take bus 164 (runs all year round) towards Ballerup St. Get off at Orientkaj metro station and take M4 towards Kongens Nytorv. Change at Kongens Nytorv to the M2 line towards Copenhagen Airport. The duration of the trip is approximately 40 minutes. You will need a valid 3-zone ticket, which costs 30 DKK.
• Taxi : The trip will cost approximately 425 DKK during the day (weekdays) and around 520 DKK during the evening, at weekends and on bank holidays. The duration of the trip is about 40 minutes. 

* When cruise ships call at Ocean Quay, the bus departs every 10 to 20 minutes from when the first cruise ships arrive until 1 hour before the last ship in port departs.

Copenhagen Central Station

• Bus 25 and metro:  Take bus 25* from the bus stop Oceankaj located in terminal 1. Get off at Orientkaj metro station and take M4 towards Kongens Nytorv directly to Copenhagen Central Station (Københavns Hovedbanegård). The duration of the trip is approximately 30 minutes. You will need a valid 2-zone ticket. The price is 24 DKK.
• Bus 164 and metro : Take bus 164 (runs all year round) towards Ballerup St. Get off at Orientkaj metro station and take M4 towards Kongens Nytorv directly to Copenhagen Central Station (Københavns Hovedbanegård). The duration of the trip is approximately 30 minutes. You will need a valid 2-zone ticket. The price is 24 DKK.
• Taxi : The trip will cost approximately 212 DKK during the day and about 262 DKK during the evening, at weekends and on bank holidays. The duration of the journey is about 30 minutes. 

Copenhagen City Centre

You can either choose to go to Copenhagen Central Station (directions can be found above), Kongens Nytorv or Nørreport when you go to Copenhagen City Centre. You can also visit Copenhagen's charming neighbourhoods. Find everything you need to know  here .  

Kongens Nytorv:

• Bus 25 and metro: You can reach Kongens Nytorv by taking bus 25* from the bus stop Oceankaj located in terminal 1. Get off at Orientkaj metro station and take M4 towards Kongens Nytorv. The duration of the trip is approximately 20 minutes. You will need a valid 2-zone ticket and the price is 24 DKK.
• Bus 164 and metro : Take bus 164 (runs all year round) towards Ballerup St. and get off at Orientkaj metro station. Then take M4 towards Kongens Nytorv. The duration of the trip is approximately 20 minutes, and you will need a valid 2-zone ticket. The price is 24 DKK.
• Taxi:  The trip will cost approximately 175 DKK during the day (weekdays) and around 215 DKK during the evening (weekdays), weekends and bank holidays. The duration of the trip is about 25 minutes. 
• Bus 25, metro and train:  Nørreport can be reached by taking bus 25* from the bus stop Oceankaj located in terminal 1. Get off at Orientkaj metro station, take M4 towards Kongens Nytorv and get off at Østerport Station. Then take the S-train in the direction of Hundige, Høje Taastrup, Frederikssund, Køge or Ballerup (lines A, B, C, E or H) and get off at Nørreport Station. The duration of the trip is approximately 25 minutes. You will need a valid 2-zone ticket, and the price is 24 DKK.
• Bus 164 and train : Take bus 164 (runs all year round) towards Ballerup St. and get off at Hellerup Station. Here you take the S-train in the direction of Hundige, Høje Taastrup, Frederikssund, Køge or Ballerup (lines A, B, C, E or H) and get off at Nørreport Station. The duration of the trip is approximately 35 minutes. You will need a valid 3-zone ticket, and the price is 30 DKK.
• Taxi:  The trip will cost approximately 175 DKK during the day (weekdays) and around 215 DKK during the evening (weekdays), weekends and bank holidays. The duration of the trip is about 20 minutes.

Getting to and from nordre tolbod.

• Walk and metro:  Walk 14 minutes to Marmorkirken metro station and take the metro line M3 or M4 to Kongens Nytorv. Change at Kongens Nytorv and take the metro line M2 to Copenhagen Airport. The duration of the trip is approximately 35 minutes. You will need a valid 3-zone ticket. The price is 30 DKK.
• Taxi : The trip will cost approximately 232 DKK during the day (weekdays) and 286 DKK during the evening (weekdays), at weekends and on bank holidays. The duration of the journey is 30 minutes. 
• Walk and metro:  Walk 14 minutes to Marmorkirken metro station and take the metro line M3 or M4 towards Kongens Nytorv directly to Copenhagen Central Station (Københavns Hovedbanegård). The duration of the trip is approximately 25 minutes, and you will need a valid 2-zone ticket. The price is 24 DKK.
• Taxi : The trip costs approximately 116 DKK during the day (weekdays) and 143 DKK during the evening (weekdays), at weekends and on bank holidays. The duration of the journey is 20 minutes.

You are close to the city centre at Nordre Toldbod, but if you do not want to walk, you can choose one of the following options:

• Walk and metro to Nørreport:  Walk 14 minutes to Marmorkirken metro station and take the metro line M3 or M4 towards Kongens Nytorv. Change at Kongens Nytorv to the M1 or M2 metro line towards Nørreport Station. The duration of the journey is 25 minutes. You will need a valid 2-zone ticket. The price is 24 DKK.

• Taxi : You are already in the city centre, but if you do not want to walk, a taxi to, e.g., Nørreport will cost approximately 96 DKK during the day (weekdays) and 120 DKK during the evening (weekdays), weekends and on bank holidays. The duration of the trip is approximately 10 minutes.

• Bus 27 and metro:  Kongens Nytorv can be reached by walking 5 minutes to the bus stop, Indiakaj, and taking bus 27 to Østerport Station. Then take the metro line M3 or M4 to Kongens Nytorv. The duration of the trip is approximately 15 minutes. You will need a valid 2-zone ticket. The price is 24 DKK.

It is possible to use the public car park located approximately 50-100 metres from the ships. There is room for approximately 200 cars, and you have to pay. No advance reservation is possible. The price is:

The sheer number of candles being used (the Danes burn more than any other country) and the sense of simplicity and comfort are in evidence around the city. A few days in Copenhagen can certainly get you hooked on the Danish obsession with Hygge.

With attractions across the city from Royal Palaces to fun-filled amusement parks, unfathomably popular statues to the colourful Nyhavn district as well as learning a little about how to make your life more Hygge, there is much to suggest that an extra day or two before or after your cruise is well worth it.

With so many things to see and do though it might be hard to decide just what do to during your limited time. COPENHAGEN CRUISE TERMINAL

There are three cruise ports in Copenhagen so it is important to know which terminal your cruise ship will be using or you might be heading to the wrong one. In general, if you are joining a cruise it is likely to be from Oceankaj, Nordre Tolbod and Langelinje are more used for visiting ships.

If you are using a GPS or map program (we use   Here WeGo ), input one of the following addresses to find your terminal:

Ocean Quay : Oceankaj Terminal 1/2/3, Nordhavnen, 2150 København

Nordre Tolbod : Nordre Toldbod, 1259 København

Langelinje: Langeliniekaj 2, 2100 København

Also scheduled for completion in 2020 is Terminal 4 at Oceankaj which will allow for larger ships to depart from Copenhagen. 

PASSENGER & LUGGAGE DROP OFF

EMBARKATION:   Passengers may drop off their luggage, and companions if they wish, at their designated terminal prior to parking.

DISEMBARKATION:   When returning you can either retrieve your vehicle and return to the terminal to pick up your companions and luggage in the loading area, or take your luggage and companions to your parking lot to retrieve your vehicle.

The area next to the cruise terminal is for loading and unloading only so you should be prepared to unload/load quickly to allow others to do the same.

TAXIS : As to be expected there is a high demand for taxis during peak disembarkation hours and they may not be readily available. Please account for this wait time in your plans for departure day, especially when booking a flight home.

MONEY MATTERS

The currency of Denmark is the Krone (DKK) which is divided into 100 øre. It is printed on notes in the following denominations: kr50, kr100, kr200, kr500, and kr1000 and coins with values of: 50 øre, kr1, kr2, kr5, kr10, and kr20. The 50 øre coin is worth half a kroner and is the only Danish coin with a face value of less than one kroner.

CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS

Credit and Debit cards are widely accepted in Copenhagen, but cards which do not use Chip & Pin may not be accepted in self-service machines and may cause delays in shops and restaurants. Contactless cards are more and more widely accepted for purchases up to 350 DKK.

TOP TIP: If you are offered the opportunity to pay in your own currency instead of Danish Kroner, our advice is to decline as the exchange rate is usually poor and you will end up paying more than letting your bank handle the conversion.

Although tipping is the norm in North America and common in much of Europe, in Denmark tipping is not expected. In general, service will be included in restaurants, bars and taxis, you should therefore only tip if you receive extraordinarily good service.

If you do decide to offer a tip, you will probably need to leave cash as credit card machines are less likely to have the option to add a tip than you may be used to.

BANKS & ATMS

Finding an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) will not be too difficult in Copenhagen, however none are right by the terminals. We’ve pinned several ATMs that are nearest to the terminals to the map below.

Generally, in Denmark, you will find ATMs at banks as well as some standalone machines either outside or inside other stores.

GETTING AROUND COPENHAGEN

Public transport in Copenhagen is efficient and affordable, you just need to know how many zones you will transit through in order to price up your ticket. The whole of the central area of the city, including the ports, is in zone 1 and the airport is in zone 4. Therefore to get from the airport to the city, you travel through 3 zones (4, 3 and 1), so you need a three-zone ticket. You have to buy at least 2 zones for any ticket, so any travel around the city would require a 2 zone ticket.

A single ticket for 1 or 2 zones is 24 DKK, a three-zone ticket is 36 DKK. You can purchase tickets at ticket vending machines, 7-Eleven kiosks, stations using cash or card. You can buy single tickets from the bus driver, but you must have the correct small change. You can also use the ‘DOT Tickets’ app on your phone:

If you plan to use the public transport network more than occasionally each day, you can purchase  City Pass Small  for unlimited travel within the City including out to the airport for between 1 and 5 days which can save you money. Prices 80 DKK for one day, 150 DKK for two days and an additional 50 DKK for each day after that.

TOP TIP:  If buying a ticket from a train station, you won’t be able to enter a bus stop name as your destination. Choose the metro station you will change at and the ticket will be accepted by the bus driver.

Public transportation options include:

• Metro   – Provides access across the city on three lines including the airport. Click here for the routes, hours, and pricing or here for the MDT Tracker app.
• Train  – The train is a quick efficient way to get from the airport into the central station, but can also be a good option for getting across the city.
• Bus   – With routes across the city, the bus service is an excellent way to get around and end up close to your destination.
• Harbour bus – Can be a nice option if you need to travel along the river, may not be as quick as other options, but a great way to see the city from the water.

Other options in the city include:

• Bike   – Copenhagen is great for cyclists and you can rent bikes from many places in the city. You may even find your hotel has them available to borrow. For more information, check out this guide .
• e-scooter – These scooters can be found all over town and can be rented through an app to get you around the city in double-quick time.

Note: Uber and Lyft do not operate in Copenhagen due to local regulations.

With all these options you will be able to really take in Copenhagen if you visit for a pre or post-cruise stay!

TOP TIP: The  Copenhagen Card  can be purchased with unlimited public transport included, saving you even more money.

COPENHAGEN WEATHER

In general, you’ll find the summers are comfortable, though partly cloudy while the winters are long, cold and windy. The best times to visit Copenhagen for warm-weather outdoor activities is from late June to late August.

The hottest part of the year is from late June to the end of August with average daily high temperatures above 18°C (64°F). The cooler part of the year is from the beginning of November to the end of March with average daily high temperatures below 6°C (43°C).

The Copenhagen Visitor Service   is a great place for even more, in-depth, information about many sights and sounds in the Copenhagen area.

Copenhagen is home to plenty of food options ranging from little corner coffee shops to Michelin-starred restaurants, from quick bites to full-service dining. There is cuisine from all over the world to tempt your taste buds.

A few Copenhagen restaurants you might want to try include:

Barock Restaurant : Located at one end of the colourful Nyhavn district, this restaurant offers good value dishes in a cosy, hygge, atmosphere.

Restaurant Kronborg : Focussed on traditional Danish open sandwiches or  smørrebrød, Kronborg offers its customers a place all about homemade food and cosiness.

Kokkeriet : This Michelin-starred restaurant offers a relaxed dining experience with a menu of Danish food for all seasons.

From name-brand department stores to unique boutiques, you’ll find plenty of places to do some shopping for those last-minute cruise items or souvenirs of your trip. Popular shopping destinations in Copenhagen include:

Strøget   – One of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe stretching between the squares of Kongen Nytorv and Rådhuspladsen. Strøget offers a huge variety of shops including ILLUM one of the most prestigious department stores in Denmark.

Magasin du Nord   – The beautiful building in Renaissance style is over 200 years old and inside you will find over 2,000 brands of clothes, beauty essentials and more.

Fisketorvet   – With nearly 100 stores, you’ll be sure to find what you need at this large shopping mall. If you arrive by bike, be sure to check out the Cycle Snake bridge.

Greetings -- Has anyone used HAL and stopped in Copenhagen? I will be there two days in June. One of them, I have booked for a tour of the city and Tivoli Gardens. But need to plan for the other day? Need specific information on the cruise ship terminal. First, where is it? (Would like to find it on Google Earth). Does it have any shopping? Can I walk safely into the city from there without too much risk from traffic and crime? Is it a long walk? Would value anyone's comments on this. Am a solo traveler.

There are two cruise ship terminals fairly close to each other. They are out past The Little Mermaid, not too far away.

It's a long walk to town by my standards, but those in good shape, who walk frequently, can do it. The walk is a safe one.

If you find the Little Mermaid on a map, the cruise ship terminal is a little to the north of it. There is a bus from outside the terminal to town, near the Tivoli and the walk is manageable. I had a knee operation some 8 weeks before landing in Copenhagen and managed the walk (about 1.5 to 2 miles) easily. The shopping is not like the US. There are small stores and department stores and place where you can get coffee. I found it very interesting.

The cruise terminal for the big ships is called the Freeport Cruise Terminal. It is located in part of the industrial area of the port so no shopping there plus walking to the entrance is a pretty good distance. The one Ruth is talking about near the Little Mermaid statue is called Langelinie. HAL will more than likely be using the Freeport Cruise Terminal, though

A trip to Amalienborg Palace with the changing of the guards at noon, Amaliehaven (Amalie harbor) and the "The Amalie Garden" might be interesting to you. Nyhavn (New Harbor) with its colored houses on each side and Christiansborg Palace, home of the Danish Parliament could also be good stops; Have a great time!

Copenhagen is one of our favorite cities. So walkable, friendly, so much to see and do. We loved our visits there and say spend every minute you can there.

Does HAL provide shuttle bus service into the city?

I can't say for certain, but somehow doubt it. HAL hasn't routinely provided shuttle service in Europe (except for Dublin) in years.

The last time I was in Copenhagen was on a turn-around day and I didn't leave the ship.

We took a leisurely walk from the ship along Langelinie Promenade, past the tiny Little Mermaid & Gelfion Fountain to Amalienborg Castle . We were too early for the Changing of the Guard (not till 1200 hrs) so we visited the nearby Marble Church . Very impressive! At this point we were very close to Nyhavn but we decided not to stop for a canal tour just yet. We walked past the canals to Rosenborg Castle , where we toured the Palace & Treasury with its crown jewels. Then we continued a very short distance to the Round Tower & circled to the top for spectacular views over Copenhagen .

Our lunch plan was to try the much-touted hot dogs from the street carts at Radhuspladsen near Tivoli Gardens . From the Round Tower , we continued down the pedestrian Stroget until we reached the square. It was Saturday & the place was hopping. We were unimpressed with the dogs, but the setting was lovely. After lunch, we popped into nearby City Hall to see its famous clock. Then we slowly walked back along Stroget, window shopping as we went. We stopped at La Glace for the most delicious (but $$$) milkshake ever. Once we reached Nyhavn again, we took a one-hour canal tour to wrap-up a fabulous day.

Copenhagen was our fave port (after St. Petersburg ) on our Baltic cruise.

When I was on Cunard's QV, we were told that the langelinie pier is used for cruise ships that are docking for the day as a stop on a cruise, and the Freeport pier is used more by ships to embark/disembark passengers as a starting or ending point of a cruise.

(Would like to find it on Google Earth). Does it have any shopping? Can I walk safely into the city from there without too much risk from traffic and crime? Is it a long walk?

......................   There were shuttle buses available on our cruise in '05 in Helsinki and Stockholm, but they weren't free. Helsinki's was $6 pp r/t, and Stockholm's $10 pp r/t.

The train station is a 10 min. walk from the Freeport terminal, and it's a short ride to Central Station.

The Freeport terminal area is not to industrialized, one you walk out of the parking/road area, there are sidewalks and crosswalks. It's about a 30-40 min. walk to Strøget (main shopping street). A good map will help.(not those cheesy maps HAL provides:eek:;))

We took a little boat ride in Copenhagen and we saw alot!! It is right by a very busy shopping area. One thing you will find, the food is very expensive. We went to Hard Rock, where usually a hamburger is about $12-it was $38 there!! I told my husband we could afford it but refused to pay that much!!

Don't forgetthe Carlsberg brewery- great fun stay all day

I think the Little Mermaid has been taken somewhere as Denmarks exhibit at some expo. Sorry, I just can't remember any more. Not sure when she will be back.

A short walk from the Freeport Terminal is a parking area for the Copenhagen Hop On Hop Off Bus. We enjoyed that. You see the city and get off whenever.

Why a Holland America cruise was the perfect multigenerational vacation for my family

C ruise vacations have always been an attractive choice for multigenerational family vacations . A hassle-free way to explore the world, family cruises balance together-time with opportunities for everyone in the family to pursue their own interests too. And thanks to all-inclusive cruise pricing , there’s no sticker shock when it’s time to settle the bill. 

That said, not all cruise lines are equal when it comes to handling the needs (and entertainment) of multiple generations on a single cruise ship. So when my family recently embarked on a five-day Holland America cruise aboard the MS Rotterdam , I took it as an opportunity to evaluate the cruise line’s offerings specifically as it relates to multigenerational cruising.

Transporting us from Rotterdam to Oslo and Copenhagen before we disembarked in Amsterdam, the MS Rotterdam was like a proverbial floating hotel. (Unpacking only once was the cherry on top.) Not only was this Holland America cruise within our budget, it was included in the line’s ongoing kids sail free cruise deal that lets children ages five to 18 sail in the same stateroom as two adults for free. But even setting aside its budget-friendly price, I came away convinced that a Holland America cruise is a perfect fit for a multigenerational cruise vacation. Here are 10 reasons why. 

1. Holland America’s history

These days Holland America (HAL) is a leisure cruise line, but back when it launched HAL was primarily a carrier of immigrants from Europe to the United States. From 1873 until well after the turn of the century, it brought nearly 2 million immigrants to North America. This legacy resonates with millions of Americans, including myself. My grandfather made the journey from Rotterdam to Ellis Island aboard a Holland America ship. Immigrants came from across Europe to depart from the city’s large port. 

As soon as my family arrived in Rotterdam, I made a beeline for the Hotel New York. The hotel was originally Holland America’s headquarters, and I got a thrill knowing that my grandfather had been in the exact same building in 1913 at age 14 preparing for his solo journey and new life in America.

2. Spacious staterooms

Holland America has roomy staterooms with a foldout couch that can accommodate up to five guests. Beds have a very supportive mattress, a gift for my middle-age back. Complimentary travel cribs may be requested in advance if your multigenerational cruise includes a baby on board. And if a member of your family group has mobility issues , there are accessible rooms along with elevators and ramps throughout the ship.

3. Low-key entertainment

If you’re craving high-adrenaline action like zip lines, go-karts, or giant cruise ship water parks , Holland America’s cruises are probably not a fit. Your time onboard will be focused more on slower-paced activities to strengthen family bonds. 

Entertainment is low-key, with ping-pong, board games, jigsaw puzzles and Sjoelen (a Dutch version of shuffleboard) being popular pastimes. A nightly family-friendly outdoor movie screened under the stars (complete with blankets and freshly popped popcorn) was a hit with our group.

4. Supervised kids programs

For passengers ages three to 17, Club HAL is a supervised program with a dedicated space for each age group. The club is staffed with professionals trained to work with a variety of learning styles. Kids can try their hand at arts and crafts, video game competitions, scavenger hunts, and more. Themed parties in the evening free adults to listen to top-notch live musical performances at the Music Walk.

5. Pickleball

Holland America may be a historic cruise line, but it knows how to embrace a new trend when it sees one. That’s why all Holland America ships have pickleball courts. This racquet sport is easy to learn, which may explain why it’s the fastest growing sport in America. If you’re curious to give it a try, there are even tutorial videos on your stateroom TV.

6. Fancy or informal (take your pick)

Cruises on a Holland America ship are as swanky as you want them to be; service is always gracious, though never stuffy. If you’d like to dress up for dinner, go ahead. If you prefer to eat a burger in your bathing suit by the pool, no problem!

7. Finicky eaters are welcome

Holland America tempts little palates with kid-favorites like mac and cheese and half-portions. If you want to try one of the specialty dining venues that incur an extra fee, kids 12 and under eat for half-price. 

My family found ourselves gravitating towards the ship’s casual eateries, chowing down on Nathan’s hot dogs, burgers and fries at the poolside Dive-In, and cheesy slices at New York Deli and Pizza. Highchairs and booster seats are available.

8. Shore excursions

On my family’s Holland America cruise, the MS Rotterdam visited Rotterdam, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam in five days, ferrying us to a new destination each morning. There were dozens of shore excursions to choose from at each port, including some offering discounts for youngsters.

Our favorite excursions were the inexpensive hop-on, hop-off double decker buses, allowing us the freedom to get off when and where we wanted to. Of course, if some members of your group want to remain onboard and enjoy the ship at its uncrowded best, that’s a fine option as well.

Holland America Line's youth activities program, Kids Club, offers an array of entertaining events for kids and teens ages 3-17, supervised by a full-time, professionally trained staff. They'll have an opportunity to join other kids their age for arts and crafts, sports, video game competitions, scavenger hunts, challenging team games and themed parties. Note: Kids Club is not offered on cruises of 25-days or longer, including all Legendary and Grand Voyages. Premium cruise line expands Global Fresh Fish Program with Marine Stewardship Council and Aquaculture Stewardship Council certifications for sustainable and responsible seafood

SEATTLE , April 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Holland America Line is elevating its award-winning dining experience by becoming the first global cruise line to receive both Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certifications. The two organizations serve as the most credible standards worldwide for certified seafood.

The distinguished certifications take Holland America Line's Global Fresh Fish Program to the next level, underscoring the brand's commitment to serving guests the highest-quality seafood that is sourced sustainably when wild-caught and raised responsibly when farmed according to the strictest global standards.

Marine Stewardship Council | Aquaculture Stewardship Council

Marine Stewardship Council's focus is on sustainable wild-caught seafood, while Aquaculture Stewardship Council works with responsibly farmed seafood, with both organizations seeking to minimize environmental impacts. Aligning with both ecolabels signifies Holland America Line's commitment to programs that recognize and reward sustainable fishing practices, protect the ocean environment, and transform the seafood market toward greater sustainability.

Onboard Dining and Guest Experience

All 11 ships in the fleet are Chain of Custody certified to serve Marine Stewardship Council and Aquaculture Stewardship Council certified and labeled seafood, with the full rollout starting across five Holland America Line ships in May 2024 at the beginning of Europe and Canada /New England season.

They include Volendam in the Canada /New England region, and Rotterdam , Nieuw Statendam, Zuiderdam and Oosterdam in Europe . Holland America Line's six ships in Alaska serve 100% sustainable seafood under its Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification.

Guests will be able to enjoy a variety of Marine Stewardship Council and Aquaculture Stewardship Council certified seafood dishes in Holland America Line's Main Dining Room, as well as in Lido Market and onboard specialty restaurants. Certified seafood from nine regions worldwide will be incorporated into Holland America Line seafood offerings: Asia , Australia , Canada /New England, Mexico , Mediterranean, Northern Europe , South America , the Caribbean , and Hawaii .

Onboard menus will indicate the type of certification with a symbol marked next to the dish using the Marine Stewardship Council blue fish, Aquaculture Stewardship Council sea green, and Responsible Fisheries Management logos. While not all seafood species aboard Holland America Line are currently certified, the cruise line is working toward 100% accreditation of species that are eligible to meet the organizations' standards.

Examples of seafood that will fall under the Marine Stewardship Council and Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification umbrella on Holland America Line cruises include: Asian Barramundi, Tasmania Atlantic Salmon, Canadian and New England Haddock, Hawaiian Swordfish, Mediterranean Sardine, Mexican Tuna, Northern European Dover Sole, and South American Chilean Seabass, to name a few.

Global Fresh Fish Program

The new certifications are the latest achievements for Holland America Line's Global Fresh Fish Program. The pioneering initiative engages a global network of 60 ports to source and serve 80 types of fresh fish — from port to plate in less than 48 hours — in all restaurants on board. Guests can find fresh fish and ingredients native to various regions where the ships sail, yielding destination-inspired menus and local specialties that tell the story of each itinerary through cuisine.

Additionally, the Marine Stewardship Council and Aquaculture Stewardship Council certifications fall on the heels of Holland America Line becoming the first cruise line to serve 100% fresh, certified sustainable and traceable wild Alaska seafood on board its six ships in Alaska through its Responsible Fisheries Management certification.
