Biografie - cypress hill.

Ihre Herkunft tragen Cypress Hill im Namen: Benannt nach der gleichnamigen Straße in ihrer Heimatstadt South Gate, Kalifornien startet die dreiköpfige Rap-Crew mit lateinamerikanischen Wurzeln Anfang der 1990er Jahre richtig durch. Der einprägsame Nasal-Flow von MC B-Real avanciert zum Markenzeichen der Band. Spielend leicht bewegen sich Cypress Hill im Laufe ihrer jahrzehntelangen Karriere zwischen Hardcore-Hip-Hop-Beats, Rock und Reggae.

Von den Anfängen als Local Heroes in Südkalifornien bis zu mehrfach platinveredelten Hit-Alben vergehen weniger als fünf Jahre. Während Sen Dog, DJ Muggs und B-Real zunächst noch als Quartett mit Mellow Man Ace agieren, formiert sich 1988 die Band Cypress Hill. 1991 unterzeichnen sie ihren ersten Plattenvertrag bei Ruffhouse Records. Auch der Major-Deal mit Columbia Records lässt nicht lange auf sich warten: Das Debütalbum „Cypress Hill“ wird zum Achtungserfolg.

Fällt der Name Cypress Hill, haben die meisten sofort die eingängigen Beats von „Insane In The Brain“ im Ohr. Mit dem Album „Black Sunday“ gelingt Cypress Hill 1993 der endgültige Durchbruch – Platz 1 in den US-Charts. Die prägnanten Rap-Nummern begeistern selbst genrefremdes Publikum. Der Weg für spannende Kollaborationen jenseits der eigenen Hip-Hop-Bubble scheint geebnet. Als zweifacher Headliner des Rock-Festivals Lollapalooza spielen Cypress Hill umjubelte Shows.

1994 folgt ein denkwürdiger Auftritt beim Festival Woodstock II. Die Grunge-/Alternative-Bands Pearl Jam und Sonic Youth performen gemeinsam mit den drei Jungs aus South Gate. Stromgitarren und Hip-Hop-Beats harmonieren offenbar doch miteinander! Diese Erkenntnis begleitet Cypress Hill auf ihrem weiteren Karriereweg. Cypress Hill gehen eigene Wege

Die Arbeit an eigenen Songs und Alben verselbstständigt sich. Kritiker und Fans rätseln um ein mögliches Aus der Rap-Crew. Nach Gastauftritten auf diversen Film-Soundtracks in Blockbustern wie „The Wolf Of Wall Street“ und einem Kurzauftritt im Film „So High“ melden sich Cypress Hill schließlich zurück. Auf dem Album „Los Grandes Éxitos En Español“ erscheinen einige ihrer Songs in spanischer Originalversion.

Auch die Lust am Experimentieren kehrt zurück. Gemeinsam mit Bob Marleys Sohn Damian wagen Cypress Hill einen Ausflug in den Reggae. Nach weiteren Cypress-Hill-Touren schließt sich die Band mit Kottonmouth Kings und Potluck zur Hip-Hop-Supergroup Kannabis Kartel zusammen. Die Legalisierung von Cannabis-Produkten steht ebenso auf der Agenda wie die gewohnten Crossover-Sounds. Als Preisträger der VH1 Hip Hop Honors starten Cypress Hill ins nächste Band-Jahrzehnt.

Leise werden? Für Cypress Hill keine Option! Pünktlich zum 30. Band-Geburtstag kündigen sie für die 2020er Jahre neue Shows an. Auf das neunte Studioalbum „Elephants On Acid“ im Jahr 2018 folgt eine ganz besondere Ehre: 2019 dürfen Cypress Hill ihren eigenen Stern auf dem Hollywood Walk Of Fame enthüllen – nach ihrem Feature in der Kult-Serie „The Simpsons“ ein weiterer Meilenstein der Bandgeschichte!

Im März 2022 erscheint mit „Back In Black“ bereits der zehnte Cypress-Hill-Longplayer. Die psychedelischen Klänge des vorangegangenen Albums sind Geschichte. Hab schon ein paar Konzerte durch, aber die alten Herren haben es brutal gerockt. Soundtechnisch das brutalste was ich je Live gehört habe. Bässe die einem durch den ganzen Körper gehen. Bin heilfroh das wir den Weg auf uns genommen haben um Legenden aus der Jugend Live zu sehen. Von mir aus hätten Sie die ganze Nacht so weitermachen können. Thx to Cypress Hill und vor allem Respekt

Ein sehr geiles Event. Mega Stimmung wie in alten Zeiten. Hip Hop lebt. Danke Cypress Hill

Einfach nur geil, die Jungs haben es immer noch voll drauf. Hoffentlich kommen die nochmal nach Stuttgart aller guten Dinge sind drei :-) nur das Meet and Greet war etwas schmal quasi nur ein durchgewinke, aber trotzdem cool auf das Merchandise pack warten wir allerdings immer noch .-(

Vor drei Jahrzehnten starteten B-Real, Sen Dog und DJ Muggs einen Trip, der die Popkultur nachhaltig geprägt hat und bis heute nachhallt. Benannt nach einer Straße ihrer Heimat Los Angeles, platzten Cypress Hill 1991 mit ihrem selbstbetitelten Debut in die Musikszene, ihre Singles „How I Could Just Kill A Man“ und „The Phuncky Feel One“ entwickelten sich zu Underground-Hits. Der Weg war also geebnet, als Cypress Hill im Sommer 1993 „Black Sunday“ veröffentlichten. Cypress hill: we legalized it tour.

This was an epic show. Three of my favorite 90s hip-hop groups all in the same venue on the same night. It just felt like it kept going higher and higher with each group. I loved that they each did their hits and then some. The venue was epic, small and intimate, and I especially loved having a meet and greet with Cypress Hill, I do wish we would’ve had more time because it was really just a photograph and then we left. We didn’t really get to spend time with them. The words meet and greet was a bit misleading because that’s not really what happened but it was still an honor to take a picture with a legendary 90s hip-hop group. The venue was very hot as we were all standing so close together and with all the smoke the room had poor ventilation which created problems at times but it wasn’t enough to keep me from saying this was an epic show. I especially love that they gave free cold, bottled water throughout the show that anyone who needed it. Great customer service from the staff and friendly security guards upfront. Any real 90’s hip-hop fan would’ve enjoyed this night. It was one of the best hop hop concerts I’ve ever been to besides The Rock the Belld festival in NYC and Wu-Tang Clan/Nas. New York State of mind tour. Cheers to real hip-hop!

What a joke

Completely missed the whole first act. That's the time of the show was delayed the day of and caused all sorts of chaos. Poor management

Amazing, a must see show. The come on strong and never ease up on the throttle. I would tell anyone that's heard a few of their song to go experience the part. It's a one of a kind show.

They sounded so tight. Was honestly blown away how good they sounded. Loved it!!

It was how we wanted to celebrate our 20th Anniversary of being together..was well worth it.

Insanely good

We had a great time and the concert was amazing. Our first time seeing them live.

The sound was on point right from the DJ through the show. Only issue was people so stoned they kept passing out and having medical teams pulling them out. At least four times and the show was stopped a few times. Know your limit people!

Cypress Hill is an American hip-hop group hailing from South Gate in California, USA. Cypress Hill was the first Latino-American hip hop group to have both platinum and multi-platinum albums.

The group have achieved enormous success, selling over 18 million albums worldwide. Their music style is unusual to say the least: an interesting blend of hip hop, Latin hip hop, Trip hop, West Coast hip hop, hard core hip hop, rap rock, rap metal, nu metal and psychedelic hip hop.

The band formed back in 1988, when brothers Senen Reyes (also known as Sen Dog) and Ulpiano Sergio Reyes (aka Mellow Man Ace) teamed together with Lawrence Muggerud (also known as DJ Muggs) and Louis Freese (also known as B-Real) to form the group DVX (Devastating Vocal Excellence). When the band lost Mellow Man Ace to a solo career they started anew and changed their name to Cypress Hill, after a street in their home town of South Gate.

In 1989 the band signed with Columbia Records and releases their first album in August 1991. The album was a success, selling two million copies in the USA alone. Following this, their second album (‘Black Sunday’) debuted at the number one spot in 1993. This was a massive deal at the time for a rap group. In 1994 the group were honoured by being named Rolling Stone magazine’s named best rap group in their music awards, voted by critics and readers.

The band has toured with several big names including Ziggy Marley, The Fugees, Busta Rhymes, Rage against the Machine and A Tribe Called Quest. They have also produced covers of classics such as Guns N’ Roses ‘Paradise City’.

The band are known for their distinctive rapping style and the fact that they sing in both Spanish and English. One of the band's most striking aspects is the exaggeratedly high-pitched nasal vocals of one of their members when rapping.

There are certain bands with which you have to wonder if their unique selling point is going to be something that they’ll struggle with a little as they start to get a bit long in the tooth. I’m not talking about the Rolling Stones - they’re just a straightforward rock and roll band - but take blink-182 as an example; now that they’re all in their forties, married with kids, is there any real dignity and climbing up on stage night after night and delivering ninety minutes of toilet humour to those assembled? The same theory could very well apply to Cypress Hill’s stoner antics, although it apparently hasn’t slowed them down as time’s gone on; 'Black Sunday' feels like a long time ago now, but the South Gate outfit continue to pull in the crowds. The classics remain present and correct - "Dr. Greenthumb," "Hits from the Bong," "I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That" - and, of course, the focus on weed is still heavy, to the point at which I’d suggest that you might feel rather detached from proceedings if you don’t indulge. Marijuana and Cypress Hill go together like The Flaming Lips and acid; when they delivered a storming set at Leeds Festival in 2010, B-Real even shared his blunt with the stage-side cameraman, to the crowd’s delight.

Cypress Hill, record breaking icons of hip hop are one of the most globally exciting artists to see live and the demand to see this iconic quartet is absolutely huge. You only had to take one look at the momentous crowd gathered underneath the main stage at Reading festival, awaiting their arrival when the elusive act visited.

There was no big fireworks or over the top video introduction, the band arrived onstage with enough bombast that they did not need anything else. The beats of 'Get 'Em Up' began and B-Real shouts out to the crowd to instantly raise their hands and start rocking along with the group. They quickly hype the audience to continue to sway along to 'Hand on the Pump' and 'How I Could Just Kill a Man'.

The festival crowd begins to lose its collective mind as massive cult hits such as 'Insane in the Brain' and 'I Ain't Goin' Out Like That' begin to be played in quick succession and you realise how many huge rap/hip hop hits the group are responsible for. Cypress Hill are such a great festival act as their music and persona is able to enthuse a ten thousand strong crowd without the need for any tricks or gimmicks.

Cypress Hill, despite having been in the music industry for what seems like an age (for hip hop groups) and despite continuing antics that should have perhaps long ended with the onset of maturity, are nonetheless one of the most current and fan favourite hip hop (with a unique blend of rap rock and psychedelic rock) bands around to date. This is only too obvious by the huge crowd that braved the mud at Reading festival in order to stand in a crowd of thousands, thousands of teenagers and stoners and old fans who didn’t quite understand the need for all the mud. The band’s following to this day is still huge and the crowd absolutely loved them. Old classics such as ‘Insane in the Brain’ and ‘Get Em Up’ shook the crowd into a frenzy and the band’s rap skills were as on form as they have ever been. There was no need for any tricks or gimmicks with Cypress Hill, as their songs and their passion say it all on stage.

Had a great time seeing an listening to Cypress Hill at the show. They looked and sounded great musically and lyrically! The only issue was it seemed Madball was rushed and didn't really get to play many of their classic songs because of the time constraints and Cypress Hills intro before any of their music was even played was longer than Madballs while set! That was a shame because Madball really could've had an opportunity to showcase they're really good stuff and got the crowd even more pumped for Cypress Hill and likewise afforded Cypress Hills fans to a more diverse enjoyable musically crossover experience.

Seen Cypress Hill live at festivals before, that we’re good, but this one was great. The best sounding venue for an all West Coast King lineup helped kickoff the night’s Friday night party. With Julio G on the ones and twos to Congas by B-Real and his homie keeping it fresh, the party was just getting started. Me and my girls are still buzzing from the night, and can’t wait to return to Microsoft theater for another event....

I saw Cypress Hill 3 times back from around '93-'01, & they were unbelievably unbelievable!! I only love & worship them even more. Each & every time I saw 'em I got stoned righteously before every concert so I could see & hear the music exactly how it was meant to be heard. I loved 'em the first time I ever heard 'em & my love for 'em has only continued to grow & get even better as the years go by!!!!!

Well for a start Brixton was full to the rim...sold out jammed packed....wot a fantastic knight of old and new hip hop from one of the best hip hop bands cypress hill....the lads still rock the crowd. Right to the end great show cannot wait till they play London again.....if you have never seen them well they have been going for 25 years wow....a must see to all who haven't seen...10 out of 10

Cypress Hill did not disappoint!! This is the first time I have seen them. I have been a fan for long time and just never got a chance to go. It was definitely on my bucket list and I am so glad I got to see them. I would highly recommend going if you have ever wanted to. I'll go back again next time they come around.

The show was amazing despite there being very little or no moshing at all. I've seen Cypress Hill many times before and the crowd wasn't as hype as other times. Drinks prices are ridiculous at this particular venue. Regardless I would come see Cypress Hill again and again.

Perfect night in with the hill :-) my second time seeing them at Brixton academy, never fail to please, bring on round 2 please,it's that good it felt like it ended far too early.... Thanks ready and waiting for next time :-)

Three decades ago, B-Real, Sen Dog, and DJ Muggs sparked a trip that left popular culture stoned, stunned, and staggering in anticipation for more. Naming themselves after a local street in Los Angeles, Cypress Hill burst on the scene in 1991 with the release of their self-titled debut album . The singles “How I Could Just Kill a Man” and “ The Phuncky Feel One” became underground hits, and the group’s public pro-marijuana stance earned them many fans among the alternative rock community. Cypress Hill followed their debut with Black Sunday in the summer of 1993, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top 200, garnered three GRAMMY ® Award nominations, and went triple platinum in the U.S. As a result, Cypress Hill became the first rap group to have two albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 charts at the same time and are the first Latino-American hip-hop group to achieve platinum and multi-platinum success. Since the release of Black Sunday , Cypress Hill have put out seven more albums including 2018’s critically acclaimed, Elephants on Acid . Cypress Hill made history once again in 2019 when the group was honored with their very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  In 2021, Cypress Hill released “Champion Sound.” Produced by Black Milk , the single appears on the soundtrack of R.B.I Baseball 21 and is also the featured song for the band’s partnership with Montejo Cerveza. 2021 also saw Cypress Hill celebrate the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut this year with a SONY reissue on vinyl, 7-inch box set, a reissue across all DSP’s that includes eight unreleased tracks, as well as a graphic novel and their very own STANCE sock. Cypress Hill continue to be busier than ever in 2022. The band release da new album in spring and with the singles, “Champion Sound,” “Open Ya Mind,” and “Bye Bye.” Their “Hits From The Bong” documentary, which is part of Mass Appeal’s “Hip Hop 50” franchise in partnership with Showtime, will also be released 2022.
