Marina Bay Singapore street track – circuit information

The Singapore Grand Prix first appeared on the F1 calendar in 2008. Its inaugural race, held on the Marina Bay street circuit, was the 800th in the history of the world championship, and the first to be held at night under floodlights.

A purpose-build section of track includes the start/finish area, pits and paddock. In the latter stages of the lap the track passes beneath one of the spectator grandstands.

Minor revisions were made to the circuit in 2009, and in 2013 the Singapore Sling chicane which formed turn ten was replaced with a more conventional left-hander. For 2015 the approach to turn 13 was altered in a bid to improve overtaking opportunities and three years later turns 16 and 17 were realigned.

The race was absent from the F1 calendar in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Following its return, the race organisers announced further track changes for 2023, when a four-corner stretch from turns 16 to 19 will be bypassed due to construction work. The total number of corners will therefore fall from 23 to 19.

Singapore F1 Track Guide

Singapore Circuit Map & Guide

Sitting on the Marina Bay of Singapore, the Singapore Grand Prix has been a mainstay of the F1 calendar since its inception in 2008. The Singapore Grand Prix has become an instant icon, making many headlines in its 13-race history – none less than being the inaugural Formula One race at night. Due to the climate, this track is a true test of a driver’s skill and concentration, with cockpit temperatures climbing to as high as 60ºC – despite the race being at night. The track itself is set for some changes for the 2023 race which will reduce the overall lap time by around 20 seconds. This also means that there will be one fewer grandstand available in 2023, with the Bay Grandstand unavailable for use. No grandstands at the Marina Bay circuit are covered, so bring a poncho – but you will have giant screens viewable from every seated position on the track.

While each of our Singapore Grand Prix Packages comes with a pre-defined grandstand ticket, we’ve created this Singapore F1 Track guide to help you choose an alternative.

Grandstand: PIT

The Pit Grandstand at Singapore is one of the longer and more extravagant grandstands on the F1 calendar. Being a long grandstand, the pit grandstand has a full view of the start/finish straight. Encapsulating a DRS zone, you are guaranteed to see action, and with the short run to turn 1 there is always the chance of a start line incident such as Raikkonen, Vettel and Verstappen’s in 2018. You will be able to soak in the atmosphere building up pre-race, as well as the podium celebrations.

Grandstand: SUPER PIT

Sitting just above the pit grandstand is the luxurious Super Pit Grandstand. Here you will enjoy all the fantastic views that the pit grandstand with the benefits of sitting in a higher position. The Super Pit Grandstand also provides you with priority access, and a more comfortable padded seat.

Grandstand: TURN 2

Semi-attached to the Turn 1 Grandstand is the Turn 2 Grandstand, here you will have a front-on view of the main straight and first three corners. While Turn 2 Grandstand feels slightly more set back from the track than its sister grandstand, the views provided well and truly make up for it. Turn 2 Grandstand provides unrivalled views of the race start, as you watch all 20 cars shoot off the line looking to gain positions into the first three corners.

Grandstand: STAMFORD

At the end of the longest straight on the track is the Stamford Grandstand. Here you will have a high chance of seeing plenty of overtakes throughout the race – not only is the Turn 7 section of the track at the end of a long DRS zone, but there is also a large run off at the 90-degree corner which allows the drivers more options to try an overtake. You will have plenty of photo and video opportunities in the Stamford Grandstand.

Grandstand: PADANG A & B

On the short straight between turns 9 and 10 are the Padang A & B grandstands. Here you will see cars accelerating through this section in order to get the best entry into the Turn 10 chicane. The Padang Grandstands are a unique section of the circuit, sat between the main concert stage means the atmosphere is electric all weekend long. You will find many food and drink options conveniently located around the Padang Grandstands.

Grandstand: CONNAUGHT

The final grandstand before the main straight – the Connaught Grandstand – is another option to see wheel-to-wheel action and incidents. You will be sitting on the inside of Turn 14 which is a tight right-hander at the end of another DRS Zone. There has been plenty of action at this section of track over the years. Photo opportunities abound, here you will have a great chance to see the iconic sparks of an F1 car under the lights as they fly down the back straight. Food, drinks, amenities and souvenirs sit right behind the Connaught Grandstand for your convenience.

Grandstand: EMPRESS

While the Empress (or Orange @ Empress) Grandstand is the smallest one in Singapore, it well and truly makes up for it with how close to the track you will feel. The Empress Grandstand is sat between the Turn 11 and 12 section and is located right in front of the picturesque Victoria Theatre. Here you will see F1 cars at the peak of their braking ability, as they cross the iconic Anderson Bridge.

Grandstand: BAY

A sight to behold, the Bay Grandstand is one of the largest grandstands on the entire Formula One calendar with 27,000 seats. The Bay Grandstand has a fantastic view of Marina Bay and is hugely popular with spectators. Located just before the final set of corners of the lap, here you will see the cars shoot down a short straight and drive directly under the grandstand. The corner itself under the grandstand is a tight left hander with walls on either side, always a tricky proposition for the drivers to navigate.

Singapore F1 Grand Prix Sports Guide

Last Updated on July 7, 2023

Thanks to the stunning backdrop, enthralling events on and off the track, and Singapore’s popularity as a tourist destination, the Singapore F1 Grand Prix has quickly risen the ranks to be one of the premier races on the calendar.

Singapore F1 grand prix guide

Since Fernando Alonso won the first-ever Grand Prix at Marina Bay, the race has always been fiercely contested, with numerous crashes and controversial events.

With a mix of exciting racing, mouthwatering local cuisine, exciting culture, and a world-class city, experiencing the Singapore F1 Grand Prix is a must for all racing fans.

Table of Contents

Where It Takes Place – Location

The Singapore F1 Grand Prix takes place at night on the Marina Bay Street Circuit , the first night race on the Formula One calendar.

The street circuit was also the first one in Asia designed specifically for Formula One races.

The racetrack was established in 2008 and has gone through changes over the years because of concerns from drivers, including the elimination of the infamous “Singapore Sling” at turn 10.

The race occurs at night primarily to limit extreme temperatures, however, drivers can still lose up to 3kg of fluid.

To keep the racetrack lit during proceedings, the circuit makes use of 1600 floodlights that are four times brighter than your average sports stadium.

Traveling to Singapore

Singapore’s major airport, Changi , is one of the busiest in the world, with over a hundred airlines connecting to the airport supporting over 6000 weekly flights.

Over 250 destinations around the world have a direct connection with Changi Airport, which is all to say that getting to the Singapore F1 Grand Prix is not an arduous exercise.

Singapore Airlines is one such airline that should be at the top of your list to book with if you are flying from overseas.

Not only will you have a straightforward journey to Singapore, but you will arrive in comfort, ready for an epic weekend of racing.

You will also have the option of flying into Kuala Lumpur and joining one of six daily trains that make their way to Singapore.

The journey takes roughly 6 hours during the day, while the 8-hour overnight journey provides guests with comfortable sleeper cabins.

Getting Tickets for the Singapore F1

The Marina Bay racetrack may create enthralling races under the Singapore night sky, but because of its nature as a street race, you will have a limited view wherever you decide to sit.

However, the thrill of racing under lights and having the soaring Singapore skyline as a backdrop more than makes up for this.

Not to mention the series of daily concerts and trackside events occurring around the circuit.

The Singapore F1 Grand Prix racetrack is sectioned up into four areas for attendees.

Premier and Walkabout tickets will give you spectators access to all four zones while purchasing a cheaper single-zone ticket will limit your movement around the Marina Bay Circuit.

Keep in mind that this event is well-known for putting on live music on the track after each day’s action.

These stages are placed within Zone 1 and 4, so it is important to have access to these areas if you wish to stick around after the cars have returned to the pits.

There are many grandstands around the circuit that give you an elevated view of the track along with large screens showing the race.

The biggest and cheapest is the Bay Grandstand. Stick to each end of the grandstand for views of turns 16 to 19.

Getting to the Marina Bay Circuit Track

Singapore is a well-connected city thanks to being compact and having world-class public transport.

The Marina Bay circuit is within the city’s downtown district, making it super easy to journey back and forth daily from your base around Singapore.

You may be within walking distance of the track if you are staying downtown and definitely if you shack up at one of Marina Bay’s exclusive hotels.

However, with heat and humidity, it may be best to save your energy purely for wandering the trackside.

If you choose to take a train to the racetrack , you will find ticket machines at each station, also with English options.

A single ticket costs from $0.75 to $1.70 USD depending on how far away you are from Marina Bay.

If you plan on using the MRT for the entire weekend, then grab the Singapore Tourist Pass, which costs $18.50USD and provides unlimited use of trains throughout the city.

A Day at the Singapore Grand Prix

After a morning and afternoon exploring Singapore, it is time to make your way to the racetrack.

After walking in or jumping on the MRT, you will immediately be swept up in the atmosphere of this unique grand Prix.

This event may not have the history of Monaco and Monza, yet it holds claim to being the one true night race on the F1 calendar.

From the start to the end of the race weekend, Marina Bay is home to an outstanding spectacle, with a combination of lights, dramatic racing, and off-track events.

As you make your way around the circuit or throughout your zone, you will sense every bit of this awe-inspiring venue.

The bright outline of the track provides for spectacular viewing, although with the enormous crowds during qualifying and the race, it is best to find a great spot and hold on to it.

From different corners of the circuit, you will be able to look around towards a slew of skyscrapers and the Marina Bay Sands along with the towering Singapore Flyer observation wheel.

Aside from the tight racing, caused by intense heat and close corners, the highlight of the weekend for spectators is the festival atmosphere.

Try to access the large fan zone and stage at Padang at least once during your experience.

World-renowned artists set up shop each year. Past acts include the Swedish House Mafia and the Red Hot Chill Peppers.

Other areas worth checking out include the F1 Village near turn one for more concerts to keep the fun going long after the cars have left the track.

Where to Stay in Singapore

The F1 Grand Prix in Singapore is a major international sporting event, where on average 40,000 visitors from around the world join local fans at the Marina Bay circuit.

Because of this, the best rooms in town will have elevated prices throughout the race weekend.

However, with a bit of research and prior planning, there are ways to avoid blowing your budget, especially if you are OK with compromising on luxuries or locale.

Downtown Singapore around Boat Quay or Chinatown, you will find a variety of mid-range hotels that will help save on costs without taking you far from the action.

The further out of the city you go, be sure to research your proximity to Singapore’s Rapid Transit system that will help you get to the track with ease.

However, for the ultimate Singapore Grand Prix experience, you can stay at one of the several trackside hotels and be within walking distance of the Grand Prix.

If you face the track, you will be able to watch the racing take place from your balcony!

Through F1 Experiences, you can connect with experts and combine your Singapore Grand Prix tickets with a variety of budget and quality accommodation throughout the city.

The form you have selected does not exist.

Singapore’s Marina Bay area looks stunning anyway. Add to that 20 F1 cars racing through the centre of the city at night and you have the Singapore Grand Prix; an event that can rival anything for spectacle.

The race has solidified its place as a blue riband event in the F1 season. It comes replete with all the glitz and glamour that earns the venue a reputation as the Asian counterpart to Monaco as the ‘jewel in the F1 crown.’

singapore f1

The Lion City is in full swing come Grand Prix time. There are F1 parties attracting the rich and famous and a concert that has seen the likes of Bon Jovi, The Killers and Katy Perry take to the stage. After the race, Marina Bay lights up with a fireworks display that seems to get grander every year.

The tight Singapore track might not encourage much overtaking but it is a circuit where a driver’s raw talent makes all the difference. Physically, it’s the toughest race of the year — heat, humidity, 80 gear changes per lap and immense g-forces under heavy breaking all take their toll.

Being there to appreciate their skill in threading a car between the barriers is thrilling. Everything else is just the cherry on the cake.

Singapore Grand Prix F1 Spectator Tips

  • Singapore has some of the best food and beverage stalls available to humanity – Grand Prix going humanity that is. Most accept card payments but bringing some cash too is advisable.
  • Zone 1 is quite a walk from the Padang Stage. You can get there easier and faster by taking the MRT. Exit the circuit by gate 1A or 1B and take the train from Nicoll Highway station to City Hall station (exit A). Use gates 3A or 3B to get back into the circuit.
  • Spinning wheels aren’t just for the race track. Take a ride on the Singapore Flyer and get your weekend off to a flying start. The giant Ferris wheel is a great way to orientate yourself to the layout of the circuit as well as take in stunning views of the city.
  • One of the best ways to keep informed of what’s happening out on track is good old-fashioned radio. Tune in to 102FM for live commentary (in English) of all the action.
  • Singapore’s spectacular firework display is best seen from the waterfront beside the Esplanade (Zone 4), the Bay Grandstand (Zone 3) and the Helix bridge (Zone 2).

Get the most out of your trackside experience at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, which takes place at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in downtown Singapore

More like a rock festival than a Formula 1 race, it’s no wonder Singapore has firmly cemented itself as a fan’s favorite since joining the F1 calendar in 2008. The trackside atmosphere at Marina Bay is electric and the organizers put on an big show which goes a long way to justifying the high ticket prices, including A-list concerts and a spectacular fireworks display after the race has finished.

It’s hot and humid in Singapore. Dress in light, loose clothing (leave your jeans at home), pack an extra top if you are prone to sweating a lot, and wear comfortable shoes. Don’t forget to check the weather forecast for any signs of rain, as late afternoon storms are not uncommon at this time of year in Singapore.

If you are also keen to see a particular concert, ensure that your chosen ticket provides access to the zone where the concert will be held. More about the different zones at Marina Bay is in the Tickets section of our guide. For reference, Zone 1 is where the pits, Singapore flyer, Wharf Stage and many of the best grandstands are located – it’s the best zone and we recommend getting access, as it’s less crowded (the cheapest ticket with entry to all zones is Premier Walkabout)
  • Getting to the Circuit: Read our Getting Around Guide for more information on the best way to get to the circuit, including the closest metro (MRT) station and recommended entry gate for your grandstand.
  • Singapore Flyer (Ferris Wheel) : If you have a ticket for Zone 1 or Zone 2, rides on the Singapore Flyer are likely to be complimentary. TBC for 2024.

Singapore Grand Prix Concerts & Entertainment

Marina Bay feels more like a music festival than a motor race at times! You’ll find multiple stages around the circuit plus roving performers from all over the world, including illusionists, theater and circus-cabaret acts. The main Padang Stage in Zone 4 hosts the biggest headline concerts which close out the program on all three days of the weekend. The smaller Wharf Stage in Zone 1 also hosts concerts from major acts over the weekend, with the exception of the biggest headliners.

  • Headline acts performing at the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix have not yet been announced.
  • In 2023, a collection of acts from record label 88rising performed on Friday, Post Malone headlined on Saturday night and Robbie Williams closed out the weekend after Sunday’s race. Kings of Leon, Culture Club, Madness and Groove Armada also performed, along with a host of local and international acts.

Food, Drink & Amenities at Marina Bay Street Circuit

Food and drink stalls are dotted around the circuit, with the biggest concentration in the Padang area of Zone 4 and near the Singapore flyer in Zone 1. Look out for the ‘hawker’ villages which sell a range of tasty Asian fare, including satays, noodles and curries. Most meals inside the circuit are priced at around $15 SGD, though more expensive options exist as well. A large beer will set you back $16 SGD, cheaper than at the majority of bars outside the circuit, whilst a bottle of water costs $3 SGD and soft drinks around $4-5 SGD.

If you are on a budget, there are plenty of cheaper outlets for food and drink just outside of the circuit if you want a quick break, some of which are air-conditioned. Just remember you can’t bring back any food or alcohol back into the circuit. There are even a few regular supermarkets where you can stock up within the circuit, including at the Esplanade Mall in Zone 4. Toilets are mostly of the portable type, but they are clean and queues are uncommon, even on race day.

I don’t think the Singapore Flyer will be free for Zone 1 ticket holders. I hear it is only a 10% discount off advertised prices.

Thanks for the information David, we’ve updated the guide.

I have zone 1 tickets and have had an email to say that the Singapore Flyer will indeed be free

Confirmed! I was up there on Friday during FP1, great views

Hi. Just wondering if u can buy tickets to the Singapore Grand Prix at the gate on the day? Thanks

Hello everyone, I’m trying to decide if I should buy tickets to the Singapore Grand Prix for only Sunday which is race day or if I should get the package for all three days? I never been to a GP race before but I’m thinking is paying the extra three to $400 worth going for all three days.

Hi Kevin, it’s worth going for all three days. Make a proper weekend of it, enjoy the concerts and everything else the race has to offer

I’m going to the Singapore F1 next month. But I won’t be there until Saturday. Is it confirmed that The F1 drivers will be appearing on the Wharf Stage for a Q&A on both Friday and Saturday afternoon? Cause I saw that last year someone shared that there is only on Friday. I really hope they will also be there on Saturday.

Yes, it has been announced that the drivers appear on both Friday and Saturday on the Wharf stage. However, I think they will probably split the teams, have the less popular teams on Friday and the more popular teams on Saturday – this is a guess, not yet confirmed.

Thanks for your reply, it really helped me a lot. Will the team’s attendance list be announced in advance or will be known on the day. I’m a Ferrari fan by the way, so I really hope they will be there on Saturday as you guessed. I assume Ferrari is the more popular team , right? 😂😂

Yes, I think Ferrari drivers will appear on Saturday

Hi Andrew, Thanks for your reply. It really helped me a lot. I’m wondering will the team’s attendance list be announced in advance or will be known on the day. Thanks

It should be published in advance, but maybe not too long before race weekend

I’m after some advice if possible. My family and I are coming for the 2018 Singapore GP. My husband and Father purchased 3 day passes. I’m planning in attending on Sunday with a 1 day pass. Are you aware if children can share tickets? My kids are only young so I was going to bring one in the morning for a few hours and the other in the afternoon.

Hi Nicole, please read the General Terms and Conditions . It looks like tickets are not transferable, sorry.

I am planning to come to the Singapore F1 Night race next month. I have looked at the previous blogs and discovered that the track will be open for fans after the final track activity and the checkered flag when the race finishes. I want to go onto the track and feel the atmosphere on the racing track after the race. Therefore i have a few questions as follow. Is the track only open to zone1 ticket holders after the race finish? Or can zone 3 and zone 4 holders access the track after the final track activity on sunday? Also, i would also like to know the exact location where the track is open and where i can access the track(e.g. near turn 20) after race finish.

Hi Hin, it would be better to have Zone 1 access after the race, but I think anyone can go on the track. But if you have Zone 1, you can be one of the first. They open the track up at various points, near the last corner and first corner mainly.

I got on to the track from Zone 1 last year and got a good view of the podium, but be warned, you will then be ushered off round the track and like me who wanted to visit that Padang Stage, missed my exit gate and ended up exiting the track near Turn 11, but I’ve noticed on one certain Webpage, that they’ve shown a walking route which would be helpful. If you are allowed on the track from other zones, I don’t think it would be at a time to catch the celebrations and if you are allowed on the track from any gate, depending on the time, you may then be caught in everyone getting ushered off and won’t be able to walk back in the opposite direction towards the pits.

Hi! Do you have any idea what time should i wait at gate. 8 for autograph or photo opurtunity ? I knew you said 3-4hours before the event, I just confused as the first activity will be ferrari c

I’d say 3-4 hours before the first F1 session, and 2-4 hours after the last F1 session (on each day)

is gate 8 the one near helix bridge?

Any tips on how to meet the drivers in the singapore GP this week…

As per the article advice, or you could hang around outside one of the nearby hotels like the Pan Pacific or Ritz Carlton, where many teams and drivers stay.

I have tickets for the weekend (Friday till Sunday); do I have now also free Access to the autographsession from 18 till 20 houses? So yes, can you tell me where I have to go?

Anyone know if there is any trackside FM radio broadcast for commentary?

You can try and tune into 107.7FM

Last year (2018) this wasn’t functioning – I’m trying to find out for 2019 to save a wasted journey for my headphones.

Hi, I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you. I had a dream come true attending Singapore F1 2018. I’m sure it wouldn’t have been the same without your informative and excellent guides. I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express Clarke Quay, which beat my expectations. Local travel by foot, trains and taxi was affordable and straight forward, even with mobility issues. I used crutches and sometimes a mobility scooter..

I treated myself to hospitality at TwentyThree, expensive, but everything you could imagine was included.

Time for me to research Brazil! Again, thanks.

Great to hear Sophia! I was there too, love that race. Brazil should be awesome, all the best. Andrew

Hi Sophia, Just looking at tickets for this year and debating hospitality… the only thing is that I would only really want it for race day and then looking at somewhere like Turn 2 for Friday and Saturday but I can only see 3 day options available on most ticket options. Did you do TwentyThree for all 3 days or mix and match? – and if so, how?

Also, is the track view reasonable from TwentyThree?

Thanks in advance!

Just wondering will there be fireworks at this years Grand Prix? If so what day and time please? :)

Yes, as soon as the race finishes on Sunday night. Should be around 10pm

Hello, beside the race I’m also very excited for the concert on the last day, may I know how long the concert usually is? Is it gonna be a proper concert or it’s more likely to be a short performance (3-4 songs) before the race? Thank you in advance

Hi, this will be a proper concert after the race, probably 1-2 hours the band will be on stage

Hi! My family are planning to watch the grand prix in Singapore. I am also very excited about the concert since i am a huge fan of westlife and greenday. However, this will be my first time to watch the Singapore grand prix, may i know what are the particular time of the concerts? Is it before the race? during the race? or after the race? I hope you can answer my questions since i will be coming from different country. Thank you!

Hi there! No exact timings announced yet, but the concerts take place after the track action has finished each day. Westlife will perform after qualifying on Saturday and Green Day will perform after the race on Sunday. You can read more info about this year’s concerts here .

Thank you for GREAT information. I got 3days pass ticket at baystand. (Zone 3,4) Is it possible to see the drivers at the padang stage? Like a fan meet at the other circuits or they just still are at zone 1 only?

I don’t think it’s possible to see the drivers on the Padang stage. Normally the only way to meet drivers is with Zone 1 access, hanging around outside the entrance to the F1 Paddock. I think there are also autograph sessions and pit lane walk on Thursday, but this is only for lucky fans who win competitions. Otherwise, you may try hanging out at the best 5-star hotels in the city.

Hi Andrew , I bought the ticket already for Spore GP .. they said will send the ticket on the 16th of sept . Am I getting the E ticket and I pick up the original ticket in Spore ? Can I ask my friend to pick it up in Spore ? Thank you

There’s no original ticket. You receive the e-ticket on your email, and that gets you into the circuit.

Hi, I wanted to ask if for the grand prix this year (2022) you can leave the circuit and re-enter within the opening hours through the same access gates. through the Will that be possible? (I have a Zone 4 Walkabout Ticket).

Yes it should be possible.

Hi, Do you know if there is a storage facility for small suitcases/luggage within or near the circuit park? I am planning to bring my things with me at the race and rush to the airport right after. Thanks!

Within the circuit park, there won’t be. You won’t get into the circuit with small suitcases/luggage. I’m sure it’s possible to store somewhere else in the city, but I don’t have any suggestions for you. A quick google search throws up plenty of luggage storage facilities in the centre of Singapore, some of them in or near MRT stations

Hi, is it best to bring cash to the track for food / drink / merchandise or will most places be contactless? Thanks.

Most places will accept card payments, but always good to have a bit of cash just in case

Hi, do I need bring cash to buy food and drink? or all cashless?

You should be fine with card, but I always like to have some cash with me for emergencies!

Hi, im about to bring my son 2 years old to singapore gp. is it possible to bring stroller which can fold it to the zone 4? or better not bring it?

And do you recommend the free viewing at esplanade drive near Fullerton hotel? is it to crowded?

I believe you are ok bringing in a stroller, and I think it would be a good idea for a 2 year old. Don’t forget to also bring ear protection for him. I’m not 100% familiar with the viewing area you mentioned. For sure it will get crowded for qualifying and the race. Any viewing area for Walkabout in Zone 4 will get very busy

For the Singapore Grand Prix, is there and opportunity on the Thursday to do a Pit Lane Walk?

Only for Singapore residents, and only the lucky ones that won tickets in a ballot

Hi guys, we have a zone 1 pass and I was wondering what the Driver Meet and Greet sessions are like. Is it like an autograph session?

Not sure as hasn’t been done before in Singapore. But I think it will mainly be about the drivers appearing on the Zone 1 stage. Not sure if there will be an autograph element to it, I’m guessing not.

Hi Andrew, wondering the fireworks displays is on Sunday only or every night from Friday to Sunday after the race finished?

Fireworks are only after the race on Sunday

Hi! Thank you for the super helpful guide! Ive got a ticket for Sunday for all zones, but I’m wondering where the entrance to the paddock is exactly? Im coming from overseas and I’d really love to catch a glimpse of the drivers up close if possible! Thank you!

Hi, no worries. Looking forward to being there again myself next weekend! Paddock entrance is close to the Singapore flyer, back of the pits obviously. Here’s a Google Map link

Hi Andrew! Thank you so much for these detailed guides. I’m very excited for the 2023 gp, and I bought a 3 day premier walkabout ticket. I was wondering, will I have access to any/all concerts, or are those for grandstand tickets only?

Also, where are your favorite spots to watch the race on Sunday? Spots either especially good for being close to the cars, or spots good to watch any overtaking. I plan on walking around the track to scout out spots on Friday and Saturday, but if you have particularly favorite spots, I would love to know.

Hi Emily, thanks for the nice words! With Premier Walkabout, you can attend all the concerts on both the Wharf Stage (Zone 1) and Padang Stage (Zone 4). The last few years, I’ve watched the race from the inside of the circuit near Turn 2, where they have some raised platforms. It wasn’t hard to find a place last year, but that was probably because of the huge downpour right before the start. There’s some good platforms on the outside of the last turn, but even on Friday last year, these were full and hard to get a place. Basically, the best viewing for Premier Walkabout is in Zone 1, because there are less people than the other zones. But for sure, get some walking shoes on and explore different parts of the track.

I wanted to thank you for the great article guide, as it is very helpful for me as a first-timer.

I have a question regarding attending all concerts. Is it possible to do so with a single day access ticket or would I need to purchase a 3-day pass?

Thank you for your time and greetings from the Philippines.

If you buy a single day pass, you can only go to the concerts on that day. Thanks for the nice comments and hope you make it to the race this year!

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the guide. On the official website, it was mentioned that there would be a Formula 1® Drivers’ Meet & Greet sessions held on 15 and 16 September at the Zone 1 Wharf Stage. Would you happen to find out the time of this event? and I assume it would be at the F1 Village?

Thanks in advanve, and if you are going, let’s do a meet and greet ourselves!

Hi Nana, the F1 driver appearances happen on the Wharf Stage in Zone 1, behind the Turn 1-2 grandstands. The times haven’t been announced for 2023, but will probably be similar to last year, which was at around 4-5pm on both days. This is about 1-2 hours before the first F1 session of each day. Unfortunately, I’m not going this year – going to Japan instead. Have a great time in Singapore

Hi, I have bought the Stamford Grandstand ticket. But can i walk around to other zones as well?

Stamford Grandstand is in Zone 4. You can only enter Zone 4 with your ticket – not the other zones.

I am going to the race next week!! Is there an autograph session with the drivers that I can attend? I was at Baku 2018 and there was a session like this (with around the first 30 reached to the queue). I have tickets to the first corner grandstand so no issue with zone access. Any info will be very helpful Thanks!!

No organized autograph session with the drivers. Yes, it still happens in Baku, but this is the least attended race of the year. Bigger races like Singapore, there are just too many fans to organize such a session. You can attend the fan forum with the drivers on the Wharf Stage on Friday and Saturday, but this is just interviews on the stage. The other chance to get a selfie or autograph is by hanging around at the entrance to the Paddock in Zone 1, close to the Singapore Flyer – you can go there to catch them arriving or departing the circuit, but you may be waiting around for a few hours in both cases.

Would it be possible to use the circuit by the public? Ride a bike there? Like last year?

Now that the race is finished, many of the sections return to being regular roads. Yes, it is possible to cycle parts of the track, though you will be sharing parts with cars, buses etc.

Been going to the F1 in Singapore for about 10 years now. I booked the Pit stand in 23, I missed most of the Robbie Williams concert as the walk takes a long time. Any chance in making available e Scooters to get around a bit faster?

Good idea, but it’s not going to happen :) It’s always been an issue in Singapore, you either have to watch the racing or the concert at peak times. But there are strategies to get quicker from the pit area to the Padang concert stage, like taking the Metro.

Hello!! thankyou for the informative article. i was wondering if zone ticket 1 (i got the republic grandstand tix) holders can go to the podium area? im going to singapore gp and im so confused cuz its my first time, thankyou in advance.

Do you mean after the race? Yes, from Zone 1 you can go to the podium ceremony on the track after the race. It’s really good to have Zone 1 access, as you can also go to the concerts on the Wharf Stage, which is much less crowded than the Padang Stage in Zone 4 (but still has many of the same performers!)

Formula 1 could be set to return to a surprise country in 2026 after more than a decade without consistent racing action.

Despite an intermittent return in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, it has been 13 years since Formula 1 travelled to Turkey on a regular basis.

A disagreement over the cost to host a race led to Turkey falling off the calendar ahead of the 2012 season.

A return during the covid interrupted season of 2020 led to a fascinating race, where Lewis Hamilton was crowned world champion for the seventh time and Sebastian Vettel featured on a podium for Ferrari for the last time.

Where will F1 return to Turkey?

It helped to reignite a love for the Istanbul circuit which many fans had forgotten about.

Its iconic triple left hander was a fantastic sight to behold in the modern era of cars, and if F1 does return to Turkey, there’s a guarantee that it will continue to leave fans in awe of the high-speed section.

The Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism has earmarked a return to Formula 1 for the country from 2026 at a conference.

He revealed that the contracting process for organising and hosting an event in Istanbul will begin soon as the country sets about bringing the pinnacle of motorsport back.

F1 Rumor: CEO Reportedly Visiting Asian Nations But No Further Plans

  • Author: Alex Harrington

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali  reportedly  prepares to visit Thailand and possibly other Asian nations. With there being plenty of interest in the sport across the globe, this comes as no surprise. It must be noted that this is currently only in a discussion phase, with no concrete plans being made.

With the recent successful return of the Chinese Grand Prix to the F1 calendar after a five-year pause, fans would happily greet further races in Asia. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali's upcoming visit to Thailand on April 23 symbolizes a possible step in the actualization of this scenario.

The revival of the Chinese Grand Prix reflects Asia's growing interest in Formula 1, setting a precedent for hosting more Grands Prix in the region. Building on this momentum, Domenicali's itinerary includes discussions with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, exploring the prospects of introducing a Grand Prix in Thailand. Initial talks with the Thai government took place in March in France, crafting the framework for this upcoming meeting. It must be noted that there is nothing concrete at this time.

The preference for a street circuit in Thailand highlights the local desires to blend the race into the city's vibrant scape—a model seen in other global cities that successfully integrates F1 into their urban texture. Chai Watcharong, a Thai government spokesperson, emphasized this vision.

"If Formula 1 comes to Thailand, we basically want a street circuit. Preferably on Ratchadamnoen Road, near Rattanakosin Island," they said, as quoted by Thai medium Than Setthakit, via RacingNews365.

Thailand's ambition aligns with FOM's strategy to diversify the race locations by incorporating circuits that not only challenge the drivers but also engage local cultures and economies. Moreover, discussions during Domenicali's visit aren't confined to Formula 1 alone; the inclusion of Formula E into the Thai motorsport landscape is also on the agenda according to the original report, signaling a broader embrace of motorsports.

Meanwhile, interest from South Korea in reinstating its Grand Prix—previously held at the Korea International Circuit until 2013—solidifies the Asian enthusiasm for F1. The region's keenness to participate in the F1 calendar could profoundly impact the sport's global dynamic and viewership.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Five races into the Formula 1 season, Max Verstappen and the globe-trotting series have arrived in the United States for the first of three appearances in a year the Red Bull driver already seems to have under wraps.

Verstappen has four wins through five races headed into this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, an event he won in its first two iterations.

Don’t shrug off this F1 season so quickly. The actual racing has been dwarfed by off-track scandal and the soap opera has very much carried into Miami.

RED BULL DYSFUNCTION

Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer at Red Bull Racing and architect of its record-breaking, championship-winning cars, said this week he will step down early next year. The context, of course, is that the team has been dealing with allegations of inappropriate conduct toward an employee by team principal Christian Horner.

Red Bull cleared Horner of any wrongdoing and the employee has been suspended. But the employee has appealed Red Bull’s findings and representatives of the employee claim to have filed a report with the FIA, the governing body for F1. The FIA has not acknowledged any complaint and the only person still talking about the scandal seems to be Verstappen’s father, Jos; the former F1 driver has alleged Newey’s departure is related and the entire organization is in danger of imploding.

For what it’s worth, Newey and Horner were flying from England to Miami together on Thursday.

ANDRETTI BID

Mario Andretti spent Wednesday on Capitol Hill collecting congressional signatures in support of Andretti Global’s ongoing bid with General Motors to earn a spot for a “true American team” on the F1 grid.

Formula One Management, which is owned by American company Liberty Media, late last year rejected the Andretti application but “work continues” by the organization to make it happen. Michael Andretti last month officially opened the factory for his F1 team in England and, along with General Motors officials, met with F1.

Although the meeting did not open warmly, Michael Andretti said, he was feeling better about it by the time it ended. A second meeting is scheduled for this weekend in Miami.

His father left Washington with a letter and 12 congressional signatures in support of the Andretti Cadillac effort.

“If you want access to our markets, if you want access to our fans, you must grant access to our companies. You must grant access to out automotive workers. You must grant access to Americans themselves,” said Rep. John James (R-MI).

The letter sent to Liberty President and CEO Greg Maffei raised concerns of FOM possibly violating American antitrust laws and asked what the rationale is for the dismissal of Andretti’s application.

Meanwhile, British lawmaker Greg Smith on Thursday welcomed a “vote of confidence” for Andretti Global during a Business and Trade meeting to “ensure stronger UK-US trade in the automotive and motorsports sectors.”

GUENTHER STEINER

One of the breakout stars of the Netflix docuseries on F1 was fired from his role as team principal of Haas, but Guenther Steiner has been plenty busy with side projects, including a stint as ambassador for this weekend’s race.

Steiner also chose this week to sue Haas, alleging a breach of contract over unpaid commissions in his final years in charge of the North Carolina-based team . Steiner also believes he is owed compensation for Haas merchandise with his image.

Referring to Steiner’s popularity on “Drive to Survive” in the suit filed in North Carolina, he said “this exposure was extremely valuable to the upstart racing team, particularly as it looked for additional revenue streams to support itself in the notoriously expensive Formula 1 environment.”

ODDS AND ENDS

Ferrari has blue on its car at Miami, the first time the color has appeared on an F1 machine since 1964. Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino are “blues that reference Ferrari’s rich heritage and remain cherished by fans” but will only be used in Miami.

Free agency is rampant, with Carlos Sainz Jr. still looking for a job after Ferrari said at the start of the year it has signed Lewis Hamilton for 2024. That leaves a seat open at Mercedes, but everyone seems to be waiting to see if Verstappen honors his existing Red Bull contract or tries to leave with Newey.

Spanish media reports suggest Sainz has possibly already turned down Audi, which did sign Nico Hulkenberg last week, opening a seat at Haas.

It’s not clear who Sainz may be waiting for — Red Bull, Mercedes or both — but he doesn’t seem to be in a hurry.
