King John's Castle

About King John's Castle

Located alongside the River Shannon in County Limerick, on King's Island. Dating back to 922, to a time when Vikings were the inhabitants of the island (Thormodr Helgason, the Viking sea-king, built the first settlement here. My wife, Pam and I , recently returned from our trip to Ireland with Tipperary Irish Tours. We had a terrific time. The tour was well planned, included a lot of varied places and experiences and of course,  we laughed a lot. From touring castles ,  having tea and scones at a beautiful hotel with a breathtaking view, and being entertained by Brian Farrell’s very talented children,  it was one memorable moment after another. It was a great time , in a great country, with great people. I close with what was a staple or our tour~

Ben Kilmurey did an amazing job organizing our trip for us. I mentioned our interests and he arranged an itinerary and lodgings that allowed for self paced tour withh flexibility. We just booked our fourth trip and we leverages the services of GO IRISH TOURS. At first, we spoke with mark, but he was abruptly promoted. Thats when we were introduced to laura, marks extremely competent and motivation LAURA had immeasurable patience with us and our 1000 questions and went absolutely above and beyond with every infinitesimal detail, and so much more. LAURA is extremely down to earth, personable (and packs a great SENSE of humor) and made the entire traveling process a million times easier. We could not have done it without her; I don't believe you could find a better choice for a travel agent and I will recommend her to everyone. I knew potentially we (meaning me) might be a challenge with how picky we were. Instead of being dismissive or lackadaisical, she took us through the process as if we were her own family, and I will never be able to thank her enough for treating us so well. As far as laura's work effort, she knew exactly when to push, when to back off, and when to say "no absolutely not," for your benefit throughout the process. She is clearly very skilled and absolutely will not let you go through with or book something without vetting first. She was 100% on top and ahead of every decision to be made. Her communication was always consistent and on point. She was always easy to contact (phone, text, email, whatsapp). Ireland road trip!

Bobby & I just got home from a 2 week self-guided Ireland road trip. We used GoIrishTours and worked with Donna to plan. We told Donna where we wanted to go and she provided us with suggestions for the hotels in each location. We were then able to tweak the plans as we wanted. Perfect plan. We loved all the variety that she gave us from the Brook's Hotel in downtown Dublin, to the family owned Crystal Springs, in Galway and the finale was an 18th century castle in Dalkey. Exceptional attention to detail!

We are on day 7 of our 10-day Irish adventure and needed to come here to say how impressed we have been with the accommodations Dylan arranged for us. Each hotel has been lovely and perfectly located for all the adventures we've been on, but our very favorite by far is last night's stay at Ballyseede Castle! 🏰 We had a surprise upgrade into the Bridal Suite complete with Prosecco on ice 🍾with white chocolate strawberries 🍓and a personal note from Dylan and Go Irish Tours 💌! Everything was simply perfect! We are now en route to Galway and Dylan is busy working to secure some spa services for us since our Internet efforts haven't panned out. Great experience

We worked with Tina Marie at Go Irish tours to develop a completely customized 16 day tour with a private driver. Tina was easy to work with and very responsive to our wishes. She helped us pick hotels and ensured that we had adequate time to sightsee with our driver and on our own in various locations. Our driver Damian was a dream and we were astounded at how knowledgeable he was regarding the history of both Ireland and Scotland. He took us to some off the beaten path locations for some stunning photo opportunities. Tina remained in contact with us throughout the trip to help answer questions and even made some last minute changes for us when we wanted to move on to our next location sooner and do a hotel change at another location. She made it very easy and seamless. All in all a great experience.

Ireland is beautiful, very green, and so friendly.

We hada wonderful time in Ireland. Aoife from GoIrish was so patient and helpful. We saw almost everything we wanted to see on our self drive tour. The people are so nice everywhere. If we asked for directions they would sometime walk us there. Our hotels all had a made to order hot breakfast. Three of the hotels were fantastic and the fourth, The Copper Kettle B&B I would definitely not recommend. We had some rain and a lot of wind, but we still had a great time. I would recommend GoIrish tours.

Amazon announces the launch of Amazon.ie in Ireland in 2025

Amazon announced that it will launch a new dedicated store in Ireland, Amazon.ie, in 2025 to enhance the retail experience for new and existing customers. While many people in Ireland already shop on Amazon stores in other countries, the new Ireland store will offer a localized shopping experience offering customers what they value most—a wide selection of over 100 million products including even more from Irish businesses, low prices, and fast and convenient delivery and returns.

The store follows the launch of Amazon’s first Fulfillment Center in Dublin in 2022, which created 500 new jobs and has provided faster delivery for customers across the country seven days a week, including One-Day Delivery on hundreds of thousands of products. Customers will also be able to browse products with clearer, local pricing, and without additional customs charges.

"The launch of Amazon.ie will be great news for Irish customers and we’re looking forward to opening its virtual doors in 2025,” said John Boumphrey, Ireland & UK country manager at Amazon. “This underscores our continued commitment to Ireland, and will bring a wide selection of great value products with fast delivery to Irish customers, as well as provide great opportunities for small- and medium-sized Irish businesses to reach a bigger audience at home and abroad.”

Over 1,000 small- and medium-sized Irish businesses already sell on Amazon and genereated over €150 million in export sales in 2022 alone. From 2020 to 2022, Amazon has invested over €20 billion to help European small- and medium-sized businesses reach new customers across the European Single Market and international export markets, achieving more than €8 billion in export sales in 2022. The new store will also be supported by the new five-year agreement that An Post and Amazon announced last year which will lead to more convenient and faster deliveries and returns.

Amazon already has a rich history in Ireland, and employs around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda in a diverse range of roles including data engineers, operations management, and finance—supporting an additional 9,000 jobs in the wider Irish economy. Amazon has invested more than €17 billion in Ireland since 2020, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) investment in cloud infrastructure has expanded Ireland’s economic output by almost €11.4 billion over the last decade. Earlier this year, Amazon released LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland — its first Irish Originals production, which was filmed entirely in Ireland. Prime members in Ireland will also be able to watch UEFA Champions League football on Prime Video starting from next season.

“We already serve customers across Ireland, support more than 1,000 local businesses who sell on Amazon, and are a significant employer in Ireland," said Darragh Kelly, Ireland general manager for Customer Fulfillment at Amazon. "Our teams across the country are so excited about this next chapter in our story here, and are looking forward to delivering for our customers through our new Irish store in 2025.”

Solvotrin Therapeutics, producer of award-winning iron supplements

The business, which has its headquarters in Ireland, spent a number of years on research and development, and conducting clinical studies. They started selling on Amazon in 2018 a year after making their first sales and now sell to customers in 14 countries around the world.

U.S. Judge Backs U.K. Request to Extradite ‘Irish Heiress’ Who Swindled Producer

Marianne Smyth served a U.S. sentence for stealing thousands. On Thursday, a judge agreed she should be extradited to Northern Ireland on separate fraud and theft charges.

Her elaborate schemes, among them posing as the heiress to an Irish fortune , swindled people out of huge sums and left Marianne Smyth with two felony convictions.

Now Ms. Smyth, 54, an American, will most likely be extradited to Northern Ireland to face eight separate accusations of theft and fraud there, a federal court ruled on Thursday, saying there was “sufficient evidence to sustain the charges.” She will be turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, pending a final decision on her extradition by the U.S. secretary of state, according to court documents filed in the U.S. District Court in Maine.

Ms. Smyth became known as the “Irish heiress” after one of her former victims, Johnathan Walton, started a podcast in 2021 about his experience. The two became close friends after meeting in 2013, and Mr. Walton, a reality television producer, said that Ms. Smyth had claimed to be from a prominent Irish family.

But she was facing money problems, she told him, and was battling relatives in Ireland over an inheritance worth tens of millions of dollars. Sympathetic, Mr. Walton lent her money and the use of his credit card, an amount that totaled more than $63,000.

When he realized that she had deceived him, he reported Ms. Smyth to the police, and in 2019 a jury convicted her of stealing from him. She was sentenced to five years in prison but was released early, in 2020, according to court documents.

The podcast’s listeners would report sightings of Ms. Smyth to Mr. Walton, who vowed to track her down and said he had passed on potential leads to the Northern Ireland authorities. Others have told him that Ms. Smyth has used other false personas, he said, including masquerading as a psychic and a satanic priestess.

Ms. Smyth was arrested in Maine in February on the charges from Northern Ireland, and the authorities in the United Kingdom had formally requested her extradition under a treaty with the United States.

Ms. Smyth has said that she is not guilty of the charges and that there is no “probable cause” to believe she committed the crimes, according to a response filed on her behalf in court.

Those charges date to between March 2008 and October 2010, when Ms. Smyth was living in Northern Ireland and working there as a mortgage adviser, according to a complaint filed by the U.S. attorney’s office for Maine. Ms. Smyth abused a position in which she was expected to “safeguard” the financial interests of her clients, the complaint says, and instead stole about 135,000 pounds, or $170,000 at current exchange rates, from five people.

Those accusations were first reported to the authorities in Northern Ireland in 2009, but British diplomatic officials didn’t request her extradition until last year.

One couple said they had given Ms. Smyth about £72,000, or $91,000, to purchase an investment property, according to the complaint. Ms. Smyth produced paperwork that appeared to confirm the sale and sent them “rental payments” each month, purportedly from tenants. When the payments stopped, the complaint said, the couple eventually found that the sale had never happened.

Other victims said they had given Ms. Smyth £20,000, or about $25,500, to invest in what she described as a “high-interest-bearing account” with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the complaint says. One called the bank, only to discover that the account did not exist.

Attempts to contact Ms. Smyth or track her down, the complaint says, were fruitless.

Mr. Walton, the producer, said in a text message on Thursday that he was “pinching himself” regarding news of the extradition, which he said he had been fighting to make happen for years. He thanked his podcast’s listeners, who he said had sent tips, videos and audio recordings that he submitted to prosecutors in the United Kingdom. That evidence, he said, “helped fashion the noose that is now tightening around her neck.”

An illegal “dodgy box” operation that has resulted in substantial commercial losses to Sky Sports, BT Sports and other subscription TV services is still in operation, a court in Naas, Co Kildare, heard on Friday.

The continuing operation of the illegal service was brought to the attention of Judge Martina Baxter in the Circuit Criminal Court by Seoirse Ó Dúnlaing, for the prosecution, when he requested that the sentencing of a man involved in the sale of the illegal service be deferred.

Ciaran Donovan (41), a married father of two from Ashfield, Kildare, pleaded guilty last July to money laundering arising from his selling of an app linked to the King Kong Media illegal streaming service between January 2016 and March 2022 and is in custody awaiting sentence.

However, he is facing further charges in relation to the same operation and Mr Ó Dúnlaing said it would be preferable if the court could defer sentencing until this matter was dealt with also. It was expected a plea would be entered later this month, he said.

Desmond Hayes, barrister for Donovan, said his client wanted the sentencing to go ahead but Judge Baxter did not accede to the request.

Mr Hayes also suggested that his client be released on bail to deal with the issue of the service still being available but Mr Ó Dúnlaing suggested that instead Donovan’s counsel could come to him on behalf of his client with a plan about how the continuing operation of the illegal service might be dealt with.

The judge said she would put back the issue of sentencing until the new charges had been dealt with. She said the issue of “material assistance” would be one of the factors she would be taking into account when deciding on sentence.

The court has heard that bank accounts linked to Donovan’s operation saw a total of €470,511 pass through them. The loss to Sky from the customers involved was estimated at more than €2 million. BT had also investigated the Donovan operation, the court has heard.

Donovan was operating an app in this jurisdiction that provided access to an international illegal service organised by others, most likely in the UK, whom he paid, the court has heard.
