Bus lines from Tirana

If you need more options, then you might need to get to Tirana first, and then catch another bus from there to other cities.

Tirana City Transport

Tirana is very busy city, and has more than 20 bus lines. But it doesn’t have a terminal yet. All bus stations are located around Tirana Center, From Kulla Sahatit, to Piazza, behind the Cultural Palace, Behind National Museum, close to National Bank, close to Rruga e Kavajes and Rruga e Elbasanit. Interurban buses tirana

Many buses run between the major cities of Albania. Bus travel is inexpensive and a good way of seeing the countryside. Buses travel nearly always in the day-time, but they do not always run to a regular schedule. A long-distance fare, such as from Tirana to Saranda, costs between 1,000 and 1,200 lek. Many travellers prefer to use the many private vans that rival the scheduled bus routes but which operate almost entirely without schedules or set fares. You should always consider the condition of the van before choosing to travel in one, as many operate informally.

Fier is a city in Albania . It is a modern and uninteresting city, which serves as a transit point on the way from Tirana and Durres to the southern part of the country. Near Fier is Apollonia, one of the country's main monuments of ancient times.

By bus [ edit ].

There are buses from Tirana every half hour; the journey takes about 2 hours.

Minibuses from Berat go to Fier 1-2 times an hour (1 hour 15 minutes), and the connection with Vlora (30 minutes) is organized through a collective taxi.

Fier is a charismatic example of the Albanian transport mess. All buses and minibuses depart from different places, usually not marked in any way. To top it all off, there is a new bus station, from which you can’t go anywhere at all.

  • 40.7298 19.5537 1 Buses from Tirana , Rruga Rauf Nallbani ( 500 m from the central square ). The area in front of the former railway station building. There is a semblance of a canopy and landing platforms, although the schedule posted on them has nothing to do with reality. ( updated Mar 2023 )
  • 40.7193 19.5536 2 Minibuses from Vlora , Rruga Ramiz Aranitasi ( 750 m from the central square ). The roundabout area near the Gold shopping centre is popularly known as QTU. In the spring of 2023, instead of minibuses, there will be a collective taxi, look for a car with a sign. ( updated Mar 2023 )
  • 40.7204 19.5675 3 Minibuses from Berat , Rruga Jani Bakalli ( 1 km from the central square ). A roundabout next to the Catholic Church at the beginning of the road to Roskovec. ( updated Mar 2023 )
  • 40.7237 19.5744 4 New bus station ( 1.5 km from the centre ). The modern high-tech building is open to everyone, but does not have a waiting room or a single announcement about bus routes, since there are simply none here. They say that large buses travelling on international routes arrive at this bus station. The bus station confidently ignores all local transport, and is at least 20 minutes on foot from the centre. ( updated Mar 2023 )

By car [ edit ]

The SH4 highway, the main Albanian highway, runs near Fier, 110 km from Tirana . To the south, the same route continues to Vlora (35 km) and ends there. A local road leads to Berat (50 km) - winding, but not bad.

By plane [ edit ]

There are direct minibuses from Likometaj Aeroport to Tirana airport. There is no exact schedule, minibuses depart when they are full. In Fier, the company's office is located in the central square area.

Get around [ edit ]

Map

Fier has several commuter bus routes, from which travellers will need connections to Pojan, a village near the ancient city of Apollonia. Buses also make stops around the city, and such a trip costs 30-40 lek versus 80-100 lek for a trip to the suburbs (2023). Conductors have two types of tickets, and while city tickets are simply torn off, commuter tickets are carefully written down with a ballpoint pen for a specific flight.

Along the street adjacent to the university building, little red local buses line the street. There is a neat and seemingly new schedule hanging on the poles - like everywhere else in Albania, it is out of date.

On foot [ edit ]

The city centre is small and it's possible to explore it by foot.

It is very comfortable to visit everything, but space is a problem in the city so be prepared for a lot of traffic and parking space pro

By bicycle [ edit ]

This form of transportation comes a lot in hand because it allows you to visit the city really fast by not getting stuck in traffic. There are a lot of shops where people can rent bikes by hour, days, etc. with low cost.

How to get from Tirana to Skopje by train?

You cannot get from Tirana to Skopje by train, because there is no railway across the border to Skopje in Macedonia.

Albania has some national railways within its borders. However, currently, as little as 2-3 trains per week are in operation. The national railways were constructed during the communist period, from the end of the Second World War until 1992. Since communism ended in 1992, there has not been any interest or investment in the railway network. As a result, many of the old railways are visible in the landscape but are currently not in use.

Albania’s railway network is not connected to other countries. Since the communists who constructed the railways were isolating Albania from the rest of the world, similar to North Korea today. So at that time, there was no interest in International railways.

What is the distance from Tirana to Skopje?

The distance from Tirana to Skopje is 288 kilometres. Although Google Maps suggests it may take you only 4 hours and 50 minutes to drive this distance, that is not accurate. I have spoken to some experienced taxi drivers and bus drivers, and these suggest it will take you 6-7 hours.

I will add that Google Maps almost always underestimates the time required to drive through Albania. Albania is a hilly country with 75% of the country being mountainous. Moreover, traffic and the older national roads will prevent you from driving at top speed.

How long does it take to get from Tirana to Skopje?

It does take approximately 6-7 hours to get from Tirana to Skopje by bus, by taxi or by car. I have spoken with some of the bus drivers and taxi drivers who regularly drive this route and they all advised 6-7 hours, of course depending on traffic and time spend at the border.

Man Sentenced to Prison for a Muder in 2015

About 7 years after the murder of an 82-year-old man in Fier, the Court of First Instance there has convicted the perpetrator, as reported on Thursday.  Skënder Krasniqi, 44, was sentenced to 20 years in prison as the perpetrator of the murder of the elderly Novruz Likometaj. The victim was found in a rubbish bin on November 21, 2015, while he had been stabbed in the body with sharp tools.  Novruz Likometaj was found dead on the afternoon of November 21, 2015 in the neighborhood "February 11" in the city of Fier. Wrapped in a white sheet, he was found dead inside a rubbish bin about 300 meters from his home.  According to the Police, Likometaj was shot in the body with strong objects and sharp tools, which caused his death.  After the crime, the perpetrator threw it in the bin with the idea that the municipal cleaners would pick it up and take it to the garbage dump and thus, lose track.  The body was discovered by members of the Roma community collecting cans in the bins, who then called the Police. One day after the serious incident, the Police arrested Skënder Krasniqi, then 37 years old, as the suspected perpetrator.  The police considered the crime for weak motives, while the mother of the perpetrator, already convicted by justice, stated that the old man was harassing her in the street, but denied that the crime was committed by her son.  Despite his advanced age, the 82-year-old had published an ad in the newspaper where he was looking for a wife. Following the arrest, the Fier Court released the 37-year-old from his cell due to lack of evidence.  Five years later, Krasniqi was arrested again as the perpetrator of the crime, an arrest which was made by order of the Fier Court, being charged with the criminal offense of "Premeditated Murder".  Skënder Krasniqi was his neighbor and it is thought that the motive for the murder was the harassment that the elderly man did to the author's mother. Skënder Krasniqi has pleaded not guilty throughout the trial.  Likewise, his mother has demanded that her son be released as he says he was not involved in the murder of the elderly man. Novruz Likometaj was the head of the Transport Union in Fier, while his children ran a travel agency Albania-Greece and vice versa.  Roza Krasniqi, 71 years old at the time, stated that the old man had talked to her on the street and that he had told her son about it. "Some time ago, this old man had thrown me some talk in the street, where I was sitting and selling bananas. But I know the boy would never deal with this job. "It was a useless conversation," said the woman, who was selling bananas in the neighborhood with her son.
