I truly loved the show! This is exciting/action entertainment for the whole family. From the time you get inside the Pirates Voyage pre show to the show It's self. I must admit, I want sure what to expect, but the show turned out to be a highlight in my stay in Myrtle Beach!!! The food and service was just as fun. Everyone is in costume and just as much as the show! Everyone at the Pirates Voyage was all part of such a fun experience. Thank you Pirates Voyage for a great memory!

This show was honestly amazing though it was my first time,I definitely recommend coming back again...the food was fantastic! I definitely enjoyed having my blue non-alcoholic drink. The chicken was really good,I didn't eat the ham, everything else was amazing,I was a little too full to eat the apple turnover(though I wish I should've finished it). Over all I enjoyed the experience and will hopefully come back during the summer time.

First time my lady and I did something like this. It was a pirate show with a dinner.(Dolly Parton company.). The show was fantastic, nonstop and food was very good. You sat it a long table with other people in your row and they brought out the Mara to you. The only thing I can say it was difficult to eat and keep watching everything going on. Well, worth it, I would do it again!

I came here on New Years Day for the 6pm show. I really wanted to see this when I passed it in Pigeon Forge but never got around to it so decided to see it in Myrtle Beach when I was there for vacation. I was a little disappointed that it was a Christmas show, not the "real/normal" show, but actually it was great! I had SO much fun here. They had acrobatics, seals, parrots, dogs and more. The food was good too with a wide assortment of different things. However, this was quite pricy for $162 for 2 people but overall, it was very fun. The service was quick and very informative too if you had questions. Would I be back? For the regular show, yes. I want to see that. Would I recommend? Yes! At least once.

The couple my husband and myself were traveling with - we all had such a great time at this place. We highly recommend coming here. I expected the show to be full blown cheesy sword fights and pirate puns, and instead I was impressed by the acrobatics of the cast members. Plus there's a seal and parrots. Our food was great. Something I'm sure almost everyone can enjoy. Soup, roast chicken, ham, corn on the cob, potato and apple turnover. Our server was on it with service. (Sarah Jade? I'm not 100% sure on her name but she was doing a great job!) 10/10 would definitely recommend. Plus it's a Dolly production. You know it's going to be wonderful.

Great family fun dinner show for our first (maybe last) Myrtle Beach family vacation. My boys were the perfect age "6" to enjoy it and it was a great way to have a dinner where someone did the entertaining and it wasn't me. In short: Go for some tourist trap fun over dinner, not for the actual food especially if you are used to fine dining in NYC/NJ. This place feels like a Disney type theme park attraction or The entire MB should be renamed "Orlando by the sea" but I digress.... Spoiler alert! We arrived around 7:20pm and waited in line to get our tickets with many others...once we get searched through security we get a family pic taken by the green screen and then dumped into the gift shop like any Disney tourist attraction. Then we rushed into find a seat for the pre-show and I sent my hub to order drinks/apps. I kind of wished they gave you an overview of what to expect with the timing of everything as my kids wanted a sword and hat but we didn't want to miss anything nor did we know when to expect anything. I feel like they should give you an itinerary to set your expectations on the options...the pre-show was cute and mostly consisted of sing alongs, learning a few pirate words, a few juggling/balancing acts and the best part was the professional limboer. Is that even a word? He was the most impressive as I'd seen it all before but I don't think ive ever seen someone limbo that low before. I could have skipeWe paid for the items around 8:15pm before we tried to find our seats in the main auditorium for the 8:30pm show. We paid for premium seating which put us in the far center on the top main row...C4 blue sapphire team. I thought our seats were good but not premium. There's prob not a bad seat in the house unless you are sitting on a far side with a boat blocking your view. I really wouldn't change a thing about the show in terms of the scenes, dancing stunts, etc. It was cute and met my expectations as I was thinking this would be a Medieval Times like experience and it was...probably a little better actually. The best parts that were the most captivating were the dark ghost and skeleton scene, the final scene with the water blasts and treasure and also all the parts with the animals. I also enjoyed the Aerial act with the mermaids and the fact they had a female pirate for the red team. Actually, there is one thing I'd change. The one thing I especially think should be changed is the first statement in one of the opening lines says something like "you fight like a girl" and that's a gender bias stereotype that I think should be removed from the script because it perpetuates the status quo. Anyway, they redeemed the show by having a female cast as the main red pirate so I let it go....for now. Hopefully someone reading this review will consider that feedback because I did find that offensive. From the captivating parrots that start off the show and soar the crowds you are swooped into the pirate journey. When I asked my boys their reviews one gave it three thumbs up...the other gave it one thumb sideways....he also commented how he didn't like the preshow because he hates singing. I admit it was a little corny but I did see many 12 year olds getting into it so it was good to get you in the right spirits. I'm glad we had all 3 appetizers because I probably would have left there hungry. The place was very clean and the sets and scenery were perfect quality. Now the dinner I was expected to be slightly wowed after reading many reviews about this so called "delicious cheesy bread" and this "yummy veggie soup" that is allegedly so good they sell it in the gift shop....Have "you people" never been to Panera or opened a can of Campbell's cream of mushroom or veggie soup? I have had better soup at Panera as this soup really reminded me of the cream of mushroom Campbells soup you'd use in a casserole. So for the food I'd give it two stars. The corn was like a water logged 1/2 piece with a slight watery butter flavor but it mostly tasted like a step up over waterlogged gmo corn from chicken supreme in Paterson. The chicken was moist and it was an adventure navigating the fat and bones in the dark but I thought it was brined in salt and was decent. I thought it was better then my husband who refused to eat it. My kids had a couple of bites. I was very disappointed with the size of the pork provided which was probably the best part...as the waiter only puts a couple of bites sparingly on your plate using salad tongs. They don't include the BBQ sauce so once you add some it's good to go. The apple turnover was decent too though probably from a can filling. I was happy to have eaten a pretzel with cheese, nachos with cheese and popcorn as appetizers during the pre-show. I was also disappointed they didn't have a full bar with any vodka as they only had rum cocktails and beer. I tried one of the pineapple rum drinks and it was so sweet not in a good way I had water and a Corona after.

Photo of Robert C.

Just like Medieval Times, except it's a fantastic pirate show. There is swashbuckling, canons, mermaids and our team versus another team. The only thing we were disappointed in was when the "no manners" server came around. When the announcer explained it was time to give a tip, our server put her hand in front of each guest and kept curling her fingers. As if to say "Gimme your money. Gimme gimme gimme". For that, we gave no tip. She can walk the plank.

Photo of Kyle B.

This dinner show was pretty cool. It's nice to see water elements involved. It was very loud at some a good amount of times so parents be warned some kids might not enjoy that, (I know mine didn't). The service was nice but very fast paced. I have to admit the food was mediocre at best. They had REALLY good soup tho! I'm good with not doing this again but it was cool to see at least once.

pirate voyage dinner show reviews

A very good family outing. The kids love it. Adults were all pretty entertained as well. Dinner and a show, it doesn't get much better. The service was spot on and the food was pretty tasty as well. The show is action packed from the beginning to the end. The staffs hard work and dedication is apparent. The performance was perfect throughout the show. Large parking area and the access to and from the show was very easy.

Pirates Voyage Pigeon Forge Dinner Show Review

August 24, 2022 By Lindsay Leave a Comment

I recently posted a review of the Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud Show and today I’m sharing my thoughts on the Pirates Voyage dinner show in Pigeon Forge as well.

Pirates Voyage Pigeon Forge Dinner Show Review

Pirates Voyage Show

Let’s jump right in by stating that the best part of the Pirates Voyage dinner show is the show! Having been to all three dinner shows in Pigeon Forge, I can honestly say this one offers the best show! In fact, it’s the only one I’ve gone to twice now! I went once in May 2022 with my mom and then again with my husband in June 2022. I really enjoyed the show each time as I had a different seat and view with each show. In May, I was on the Sapphire side and in June I was on the Crimson side. It was neat to cheer for a different team each time.

The Pirates Voyage show is very entertaining. The actors are acrobatics in every sense of the word. I can’t even begin to imagine how one learns to do the show. Plus, there’s fire and some animals incorporated into the show. Spoiler alert: my mom loved the addition of the sea lion and the birds were also neat to see.

While the Pirates Voyage has the best show, the food is just ok, if I’m being completely honest. It certainly wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best dinner show food either. If you recall, I prefer the food at the Hatfield and McCoy show. However, both shows serve the same creamy vegetable soup, which you can buy a mix of in the shows’ stores. Beyond that, it’s a completely different meal. It’s actually more similar to the meal served at Dolly Parton’s Stampede with its chicken, biscuit, corn on the cob, potato, ham, and fruit turnover. The difference between the two is that Pirates Voyage comes with some fried chicken and a peach turner. Stampede serves a whole small rotisserie chicken and apple turnover.

Additionally, similar to Dolly Parton’s Stampede and different from Hatfield and McCoys is that the meal is served during the show. So, it can be difficult to watch the show and eat your food at the same time. Plus, it’s not unlimited, like Hatfield and McCoy is. However, they will bring you more to drink if you finish yours. I really enjoyed the lemonade here, as did my husband. The meal certainly wasn’t bad by any means, just know that you are going to Pirates Voyage for the show mainly.

If you are visiting Pigeon Forge and want to experience a dinner show like no other, I can recommend Pirates Voyage with its amazing show and good food. Admittedly, it is pricey so be on the lookout for discounts and coupons. However, I can guarantee it will be a dinner that you won’t quickly forget.

For the Best Dinner at Dollywood, Just Add Pirates

Pirates voyage dinner theater is a swashbuckling adventure in the smoky mountains..

Pirates Voyage dinner theater beverage

Call it silly and touristy if you must, but I absolutely love a dinner theater attraction—the bigger, louder, and brighter, the better. I’ve eaten kalua pork and chicken long rice at a luau in Hawaii while hula dancers swayed against a blazing sunset, and I’ve tapped my toes while watching Irish step dancers and snacking on bangers and mash at Raglan Road in Walt Disney World. But admittedly, I’m not truly happy unless my meal is paired with death-defying stunts and pyrotechnics. These high standards of mine were instilled by none other than Ms. Dolly Parton herself.

Related Content

I started going to Dolly Parton’s Stampede when it first opened in 1988, back when it was the Dixie Stampede . It’s in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, a tiny town in the Smoky Mountains that’s home to Dollywood and to countless other kinds of family entertainment, from a Titanic museum to a lumberjack stunt show to a centuries-old grist mill that’s now a restaurant on the banks of the Little Pigeon River. Every time my family would go back to Pigeon Forge, our Dollywood trip wasn’t complete unless we sat high up in that arena, watching games of horsemanship and “stampeding” our applause with our feet because, as part of the entertainment, we were eating with our bare hands.

On my most recent trip back, though, I wanted something different. Something daring. Something adventurous. Something… with pirates.

Pirates Voyage dinner theater features battling pirates

Dollywood’s Pirates Voyage dinner show, explained

Pirates Voyage is a dinner show that’s owned by Dollywood, but isn’t part of the park itself—although dinner for an adult costs almost as much as a ticket to the theme park just down the road. Over the course of an hour and a half, guests sit and eat while a show unfolds, combining physical stunts, aerial acrobatics, sword fighting, fire dancing, animal actors, and games of competition. Oh, and mermaids.

The theater’s tiered seating is situated around a 300,000-gallon lagoon, which is 15 feet deep and holds two 25-foot pirate ships, one decked out in crimson and one in sapphire. In the center of the pool is a deck with a ship’s mast rising up from it and a platform sort of like a crow’s nest high overhead. The entire set is visible as soon as you enter the room, but still, I couldn’t have anticipated the complexity and quality of the stunts we were about to witness.

Our party included my Dollywood-loving lifelong best friend and her daughters, 8 and 2, whom we were introducing to the wonders of Pigeon Forge for the first time. Our adult tickets were $69.99 each, the 8-year-old’s ticket was $35, and the toddler was free as long as she sat on someone’s lap. The price of admission includes a four-course meal and unlimited soft drinks, and alcohol is available for purchase. Shows happen almost every night of the year in Pigeon Forge and at the Myrtle Beach location as well.

As soon as we sat down, a server dressed as a pirate came to take our drink order. The meal started with a creamy vegetable soup; I enjoyed the thick bisque purely for the nostalgia, since it was essentially the same recipe as it has been at the Stampede for more than 30 years. As the show progressed, we were served fried chicken, sugar-cured ham, corn on the cob, a roasted potato, and a biscuit, then an apple turnover. The chicken was flavorful and I especially liked the ham, but the meal is a distant second on the list of reasons I enjoyed the experience.

Some of the fare you might expect at Pirates Voyage

Just as our food started coming out, the lights in the theater went down, and all of a sudden Blackbeard descended from the ceiling, sitting in what I can only describe as a pirate throne. He started the show, a parrot on his arm, setting the scene for what would be the night’s competition between the crimson pirates and the sapphire ones. Eventually, there would be challenges they’d try to win to capture the hidden treasure. First, there were going to be some really thrilling stunts.

Mermaids dropped down from the rafters, sitting on ship anchors suspended from the ceiling and diving into the water. A fire-wielding pirate took center stage with a flaming sword, who lit the stage on fire before setting the water itself ablaze. Stunt divers careened off high-dive platforms, plunging into the water and disappearing under the ships. There was a lot of sword fighting, a lot of swinging wildly on ship’s rigging, a lot of truly unbelievable feats of strength and skill.

And there were animals, too. Trained dogs performed tricks, tropical birds took flight, and Salty the Sea Lion stole the show with his antics, stealing fish from his pirate trainer and eliciting a huge audience response when he succeeded in getting his treats. Dolly Parton wrote a song for the show, “Sail Away,” which plays during the performance, while two performers partner for aerial acrobatics.

The whole thing was bigger and more spectacular than any show I’ve ever seen at a theme park, and I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. The next day, we spent the day at Dollywood riding roller coasters and eating the park’s incredible cinnamon bread until we were about to burst. The day after, we went attraction hopping in Pigeon Forge, exploring Wonderworks, the interactive science museum housed in an upside-down mansion, and Magiquest, where we had magic wands and used them to unlock treasures in a medieval-style castle. It was a lot of fun packed into three days.

At the end, I asked my friend’s 8-year-old what her favorite part of the whole trip was, fully expecting her to say one of the thrill rides—she goes to Disney a lot and knows her way around a theme park vacation.

“Um,” she said, “probably Salty.”

A sea lion performing tricks in a pirate lagoon won the whole trip. I honestly can’t say I’m surprised. That guy has some real star power.

1.) My Review of The Pirate's Voyage Dinner Show

(pictures be low).

My sister came to visit with my 11 year old nephew and among other places, we really wanted to see this show.  It's a Dolly Parton owned company , so as with anything Dolly is involved in, we had great expectations and knew it would be a quality venue.

Show prices are around $69 Adult and $35 for Kids.  There is also a Christmas Show that may be a different price.  It' s best to arrive about an hour before the show.

Animal Encounter

This 30 minute program gets you up close and personal with a sea lion, fish, birds and a dog! Get e duca ted in the sea lion habitat about positive reinforcement training that the show has for its "animal ambassadors".  (Call for prices for this experience).

We were able to get a nice, fun selection of adult beverages at the bar in the lobby while we waited for the showtime.   We were only allowed 1 per adult.  Bring your ID to be served.

In the lobby, there were photo op s being sold in front of a pirate ship scene, and we got our picture taken. My nephew got a face painting, which he loved and there were fun themed items for kids that parents can purchase.  A cute gift shop is also onsite.

The Pre-Show included a beautiful parrot flying about and a few other entertainers.  Once the show began, we were asked not to film or photograph, so out of respect for that, the actual show was not filmed.  But you will get the idea from what I have in the video above.

The Dinner  menu was a 4-course meal, which included a pork chop AND fried chicken, mac n cheese, along with a creamy, delicious soup, and a dessert pastry and drink choice.  The servers never let us go hungry or thirsty and we enjoyed our food.

The Show was really entertaining and energetic, with mermaids, competitions, swimming and diving tricks, and the cast was extremely talented! The costumes are gorgeous.  My 11-year old nephew loved it, and we were never bored.  It lasts about an hour and a half.

Servers and Bartenders should be tipped directly in cash, and if you forget to bring cash, there is an ATM onsite.

Overall , we all loved it and highly recommend it, it is worth going and great for both adults and kids!

According to the website, this location is wheelchair accessible and wireless headsets are available for hearing impaired.

Is the Pirate’s Voyage Show in Myrtle Beach Worth It?

  • Pinterest 482

This Pirate’s Voyage review will help you decide whether the Myrtle Beach attraction is right for your family’s next beach trip. Thanks to our friends at Dollywood for hosting us for this fun event.

The pirate set for the Pirate's Voyage Dinner Show.

When traveling on a family vacation with tweens, it can get a little more challenging each year to find things to do that every member of the family enjoys at the same time.

During our recent family trip to Myrtle Beach, we got the chance to check out the Pirate’s Voyage dinner show as they launch their 10th season. It was by far our favorite experience from the entire weekend.

When I asked my youngest what she would tell other moms planning trips for their families about Pirate’s Voyage, she earnestly replied:

“It has everything you need! Food, family, and fun.”

She’s not wrong. How can you even argue that? I love that my little lady values the “family” portion of that statement so much that she included it as an essential for a good time.

The Pirate’s Voyage is a Dolly Parton production with locations in both Myrtle Beach and Pigeon Forge, TN. If anyone knows a thing about how to entertain a crowd, it is Miss Dolly Parton.

The kids were gasping, cheering, and laughing all throughout the show. At one point my daughter shouted: “Is that actually real?!”

Totally grinning, I glanced over at my husband to see his jaw hanging open and his eyes bulging wide.

We honestly couldn’t even believe what we were seeing on stage and our high expectations for the evening were far exceeded.

Every member of our family gives the show a hearty two thumbs up, we definitely recommend a visit if you happen to be in Myrtle Beach this year.

Want to know if the Pirate’s Voyage show is right for your family? Be sure to get the full details in my review below.

A complete Pirate’s Voyage review for families with kids:

What is the pirate’s voyage dinner show.

One part Vegas show plus one part Hollywood action movie meets one part family dinner night.

Imagine Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow performing with a Cirque du Soleil troupe over a 15-foot-deep indoor lagoon with movie-style stunts and special effects.

All while your family sits back and enjoys a 4-course meal delivered to your seats by pirate wenches.

The daring adventure features sword fights, blazing cannons, mystical mermaids and pirates scaling high above two full-sized pirate ships fighting to win Davy Jones’ coveted sunken treasure. The show is an epic battle for lost treasure on land, on deck, and in the water. Daring dock diving dogs, salty sea lions and tropical birds join in the quest and are truly a highlight of the experience.

Who will enjoy the live performance most?

This theater experience definitely caters to families with kids. While I’m pretty sure Tim and I would have loved it on our own for a date night, we really loved having the whole family attend.

TWEENS & TEENS:

There’s enough swashbuckling action to keep older kids engaged throughout the show. Our girls especially loved the live animals and special effects which included fire, fog, and cannons booming.

KIDS UNDER 8:

There are a few audience participation moments in the show that are included specifically for younger kids. The littles we saw helping out all seemed to be having the time of their lives.

Is it too scary? Some of the action sequences are very intense with loud booms and flashing lights. There is a scene where the theater gets really dark and the performers wear glow-in-the-dark skeleton suits that could frighten more timid kids.

Nothing bad happens to anyone in the show but there are action-packed sword fights where some pirates pretend to get stabbed and thrown into the water. There is no fake blood or anything gory at all and these scenes move super fast with no dwelling on anyone being injured.

Will both girls and boys like this show?

I can emphatically say there is something for everyone here.

The pirate crews are made up of both men and women pirates. The women are just as daring and adventurous as their counterparts, not just damsels in distress. I loved that one lady was Captain of a pirate ship.

On the other hand, there are sparkly mermaids and a bit of romance worked into the show as well. It isn’t all action, all the time.

For all four members of my family, the live animals were the biggest hit. It was such a fun surprise every time they’d pop up in the performance.

Where is the dinner theater?

You’ll find the Pirate’s Voyage theater at:

8907 N Kings Hwy Myrtle Beach, SC 29572 United States (US) Phone: (843) 497-9700

We were pleased to find ample parking in the theater lot so that doesn’t need to be a concern.

How to get tickets to the show and when to arrive:

You can order your tickets to the dinner show online at the Pirate’s Voyage web site here .

Depending on the timing of your trip, there are between 1 – 3 showtimes available. To take full advantage of your tickets, we highly recommend arriving at least an hour early before your show for the pre-show entertainment.

While you wait for the theater doors to open, you’ll find beverage and snack service along with live performances, face painting opportunities, and more.

NOTE: If you get tickets for seats in the first row, there’s a small chance you’ll get splashed during the show. Some of the pirates can get a bit feisty and do belly flops into the water. We didn’t get soaked, but a bit of a splash happened at the end of our meal that required extra napkins to mop up a bit. The amazing view was well worth it though.

pirate voyage dinner show reviews

What food is included in your pirate dinner?

The dinner service during Pirate’s Voyage was wonderful. Our waitress took care of everything while we relaxed and watched the performance.

When you arrive at your seat, you’ll find your plate and a fork with napkins already waiting. The server comes through with each element of the dinner one item at a time so you always have something to nibble on while watching the show.

Our soda glasses never ran dry, she was always there with a refill.

A bar server also comes through taking orders for adult beverages if you desire. I tried a frozen peach-rum concoction that was out of this world and was served in a souvenir mug that my kids are currently fighting over.

The Pirate’s Voyage dinner menu includes:

  • Fresh cheese biscuit, served warm
  • Creamy veggie soup, served in a mug to sip
  • Half a “cackler,” a pirate version of a roasted chicken. This was by far my daughter’s favorite item.
  • Pulled pork with BBQ sauce served on the side
  • Herb basted potato, our server called it a pirate french fry. Ha!
  • Cob of corn
  • Light and flaky apple turnover

It was more food than any of us could finish, you definitely will not go hungry.

Special dietary considerations:

This is the standard dinner meal that comes with your tickets but they do offer both a vegetarian and gluten-free dinner menu option if you need it. Just be sure to mention it at the time of your reservation.

The central attraction at Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show is definitely the live show. Yes, it's goofy, but therein lies its appeal. While the Pirates Voyage has the best show, the food is just ok, if I'm being completely honest. It certainly wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best dinner show food either.
