REVIEW: Taylor Swift delivers triumphant show in Sydney despite wild downpour

  • 05 Nov 2018

Taylor Swift returned to Sydney on Friday night (2nd, November) at ANZ stadium in a rainstorm to deliver one of her best shows ever.

Yep, only Miss. Swift can deliver in a storm and have 80,000 fans dance in the rain with her.

First up was opening acts, Broods and Charli XCX who kickstarted the stadium party before the weather took a dive.

After a near-hour delay due to an electrical storm, Taylor finally made her grand entrance.

Opening with the energetic “Ready For It?...’ fans knew they were in for an epic pop show.

Just like the album, Swift is darker and edgier this time around. From the snake theme to the more risque costumes, dark visuals and spooky props - everything has changed.

As her ultimate revenge anthem "Look What You Made Me Do" says "The old Taylor can't come to the phone right now".

It’s not all dark though with Swift sprinkling some of her light-hearted tunes throughout. This included a rainbow-lit performance of “Shake It Off”, a throwback to her catchy anthem “22” along with the more happier tunes on Reputation with “Delicate”, “Gorgeous” and closing banger “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”.

Unfortunately, Sydney fans although missed out an acoustic arrangement of “Dancing With Our Hands Ties” due to the storm delay.

A stand-out moment that will forever remain with fans is when Swift performs the menacing “I Did Something Bad”. Her vocals are highlighted here along with her ability to provide an exhilarating theatre-esque performance. What a woman!

Verdict: Taylor Swift never fails to amaze and the 'Reputation Stadium Tour' is no exception. In fact, it will go down as one of her most memorable shows down under with its robust production and added element of Mother Nature.

Taylor Swift announces Australian tour dates with top tickets going for more than $1,200

Blond woman in sparkly top points at camera against purple backdrop

Swifties waiting with bated breath have had their prayers answered, with Taylor Swift finally revealing the Australian dates on her Eras world concert tour.

The pop star will be journeying down under for five dates in February 2024.

However, Swift fans on a budget might be in store for a Cruel Summer as the top VIP packages are being sold for $1,249.99 .

For reference, the most recent ATO data from 2020-2021 puts the median Australian taxable income at  $980 per week .

The top VIP package, officially known as the It's Been A Long Time Coming package secures fans "One Unforgettable A Reserve Floor Ticket", four prints of the artist, a tote bag, a pin, a tour lanyard and a sticker and postcard set.

The other five VIP packages contain identical extras but gradually worsening seats from B Reserve to E Reserve and cost from $349.99 and $899.90 .

An A Reserve ticket by itself is $379.90 – a difference of $870 from the VIP package with the same ticket tier.

More wallet-conscious Swift fans can pay between $309.90 for B Reserve tickets down to $79.90 for a spot in the G reserve seats in the nosebleeds.

Last time Swift took a tour of Australia in 2018, the top VIP packages set fans back about $820 and included a personal message from Swift, a hardcover book and a CD.

Taylor Swift told her 112 million Instagram followers that she was voting for the Democrats.

Which Australian cities are on Taylor Swift's Eras tour?

In terms of how many cities she's visiting, the tour is pretty small.

Swift won't even complete a full east coast tour for her Australian Eras leg, stopping only at Sydney for three nights and Melbourne for two nights .

This is the first time Swift has skipped Brisbane in five tour cycles.

She played in Brisbane and Perth when she came to Australia last time, which was her Reputation tour back in 2018.

How many tickets will go on sale?

We don't have exact figures.

The capacity for the MCG, where Swift is performing two Melbourne shows, is more than 100,000 people .

Sydney's Accor stadium, where she will be playing three shows, has a capacity of 83,500 .

Which means there could be some 450,000 tickets up for sale.

Having a truncated Australian tour means Swift won't come near the record of most tickets sold for an Australian tour after Ed Sheeran shifted over 1 million tickets to his 2018 divide tour.

Sheeran performed 18 stadium shows across the country to achieve the feat.

How do you get tickets to Taylor Swift's Australian Eras tour?

Judging by the reaction to tickets for the US, it might be a tricky feat getting your hands on one.

In November last year, Ticketmaster cancelled the public sale of Swift's US tour "due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand".

Ticketmaster pinned it on its "verified fans" system , aimed at eliminating bots and scalpers, which couldn't keep up with the demand as a reported 3.5 million people tried to get tickets.

Swift's Australian Eras tour doesn't rely on the verified fans system but if you're forking out hundreds for the VIP packages you will be able to access tickets sooner.

The first tickets go on pre-sale on June 26 , but there are a few catches.

To access these tickets you have to hold an American Express card and fork out for one of the top two VIP packages — so, the most expensive tickets.

The Frontier Member pre-sale , which has a much lower bar of entry, begins on June 28 and finally, the general public will be able to buy tickets from 2pm local time on June 30 .

However, If you manage to get your hands on tickets next week, you're not going to receive anything until a week before your show.

This is called ticket suppression and it aims to dissuade scalpers from buying up tickets and reselling them.

There's also a purchase limit of four tickets per transaction.

Taylor Swift’s Bringing Her Reputation Tour To Australia If Ya Ready For It

taylor swift

Alex Bruce-Smith

Taylor is officially bringing her Reputation tour to Australia . We don’t know a lot yet – i.e. anything important like ‘dates’ and ‘venues’ – but we do know it’s coming.

She announced her North American tour earlier today, and at the very end was this little tidbit:

“Additional tour dates to be announced in the United Kingdom , Ireland , Australia and New Zealand. “

Oh thank sweet ever-loving Christ, tbqh. We’re still not over the great 2016 snubs of Kanye and Beyoncé not bringing their tours our way. We’re a small and broken country, but still good. Bring those tours our way.

Tay Tay’s sixth album dropped last week, and while the first three singles were all a bit polarising, apparently this thing’s good. At least, that’s what I’ve heard. It’s not on Spotify yet, and I’m too cheap to fork out for an album I’ll listen to approximately twice.

Also… she’s been ‘gramming all the good bits herself, so there is that.

June 21, 2023: Eras Tour announcement

June 21, 2023: Eras Tour announcement

Taylor Swift caused pandemonium when she announced her plans to bring the Eras Tour to Australia on June 21, 2023.

It would be her first tour Down Under since 2018, when she did the Reputation Tour.

Swift announced just five concert dates at first – two in Melbourne and three in Sydney – but later added an extra show in each city due to massive demand.

Unfortunately for fans located literally anywhere else in Australia, she opted not to perform in any other major cities. Nor did she announce any tour dates for New Zealand.

So it's no surprise that millions of fans were battling it out the moment tickets went on sale.

4 million: How many Swifties tried to buy tickets

4 million: How many Swifties tried to buy tickets

More than four million Swifties scrambled to buy tickets in the first general sales, with only a few hundred thousand actually managing to secure them.

The outrageous demand sparked plenty of arguments among fans.

Many insisted that it was "unfair" that some fans nabbed tickets to more than one show, slamming them as "greedy" .

Others insisted only "true fans" deserved to see the Eras Tour at all, suggesting that you should have to prove how often you listen to Swift on services like Spotify before getting the chance to buy a ticket.

$1250: How much some fans paid for VIP tickets

$1250: How much some fans paid for VIP tickets

Fans paid up to $1250 for tickets to the Eras Tour, with the most expensive VIP package going for $1249.90 .

Fans who snapped up a VIP package got a seat at one of Swift's shows as well as exclusive merch, including; a printed canvas tote bag, a pin, sticker and postcard set, and a tour laminate with a matching Eras Tour lanyard.

The VIP box came with a special souvenir concert ticket, however these were misprinted.

The tour year read 2023 on the tickets sent out to fans, so Frontier Touring offered reprinted replacements with the correct year.

$65.90: Price for the cheapest seats

$65.90: Price for the cheapest seats

As the concert dates drew near, extra tickets were released to the public with the cheapest restricted view seats going for just $65.90.

It was a huge relief to many fans who missed out in the first sales or were hoping to nab tickets on a budget, though ticket numbers were limited and fans once again had to fight tooth and nail for them.

Despite being marketed as 'restricted view', many of the late release tickets had "great views" according to fans who posted on social media from the Aussie shows.

12.50am: Time she arrived in Australia

12.50am: Time she arrived in Australia

Taylor Swift officially landed in Australia at around 12.50am on February 15, 2024.

Her private jet touched down at Tullamarine airport in Melbourne, where fans camped out hoping for a brief glimpse of the American megastar.

She arrived fresh off the back of boyfriend Travis Kelce's huge Super Bowl win on February 11 in Las Vegas, USA, where she was photographed supporting him from a VIP box.

The couple were later caught on camera partying and celebrating Kelce's victory together with A-list friends.

96,000: Number of fans at each Melbourne show

96,000: Number of fans at each Melbourne show

Swift's first three shows took place in Melbourne, where she performed to crowds of about 96,000 fans each night at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

That's over 288,000 concert-goers over three nights.

They were some of the biggest shows of her career, and she told the audience on her final night: "Oh Melbourne, look at you – I'm just taking a mental picture for myself any time that I'm sad.

"I'm going to remember all of this that I got to look at on Friday night in Melbourne. Just a few songs in you are already making me feel phenomenal.

"If I seem a little bit like I'm losing my mind over the fact that there are 96,000 people here tonight ... it's because it's true."

$5 million: How much she makes per show

$5 million: How much she makes per show

Industry insiders estimate that Swift banked a whopping $5 million in profits for each of her Australian shows, according to The Guardian

That averages out to $1.43 million per hour of her 3.5 hour Eras Tour set list.

In total, she would have made $35 million from her seven Australian dates before adding the profits from merchandise sales, which were also massive.

The Eras Tour has been running for almost 12 months now and The Washington Post reports that Swift, who is already a billionaire, will bank a total of US$4.1 billion (approx. $6.2 billion AUD) from the landmark tour.

Two: Number of times she visited Sydney Zoo

Two: Number of times she visited Sydney Zoo

But it wasn't all work and no play for Swift while she was Down Under.

Between sold-out shows, she managed to make not one but two visits to Sydney Zoo in Bungarribee, New South Wales.

Now, two visits isn't that many but it's surprising that she went twice - on back to back days no less.

The second time around she took NFL boyfriend Travis Kelce, who flew in to support Swift at one of her Sydney shows before jetting back overseas.

1000: Number of extra trains for the first Sydney show

1000: Number of extra trains for the first Sydney show

With hundreds of thousands of Swifties flocking to Accor Stadium for the singer's four Sydney dates, Sydney Trains made sure the city's public transport system was well-prepared for the extra travellers.

There were a whopping 1000 extra services running on the night of her first show, with Swift songs playing over the speakers as concert-goers trekked to Sydney Olympic Park.

Some of the latest train models even showed 'Tay Tay Express' on the digital screens inside the train and on the exterior.

Four: Number of back-to-back gigs at Accor Stadium

Four: Number of back-to-back gigs at Accor Stadium

Swift performed four nights back-to-back at Sydney's Accor Stadium , making venue history with her concerts on February 23, 24, 25, and 26.

According to the venue's X (formerly Twitter) account, the Getaway Car singer is the first artist to perform there four nights in a row.

"Back-to-back-to-back-to-back..." it read.

"Taylor Swift tonight becomes the first artist to perform FOUR nights in a row at Accor Stadium."

84,500: How many fans turned out to her final show

84,500: How many fans turned out to her final show

Over 84,500 fans turned out to her final Sydney show, a number that floored even Swift herself.

"Looking at this crowd, the biggest crowd we've had at our four shows here!" she told the crowd on February 26.

Concert-goers were treated to two very special secret songs on the night as Swift said farewell to her Australian fans.

The first was an acoustic mashup of Would've, Could've, Should've and ivy, which she performed on guitar, followed by Forever and Always mashed up with Maroon on piano.

624,500: Number of fans in seats across her seven shows

624,500: Number of fans in seats across her seven shows

In total, Swift performed for more than 624,500 fans across her seven Australian shows – and that's just the ones who managed to get a seat inside the venue.

Thousands of Swifties who didn't get tickets still turned up to the MCG and Accor Stadium to 'Taylorgate', a trend in which fans set up outside the gates to listen to the show even if they can't actually see it.

Some fans also applied for jobs inside the venues , such as Casual Merchandise Assistant roles at the MCG, just to get in the door after missing out on tickets.

Seven: Total number of concerts she played

Seven: Total number of concerts she played

It's hard to believe that Swift played just seven shows in Australia, given the massive cultural moment her short visit generated.

The American popstar dominated headlines for weeks before she touched down in Melbourne, you couldn't have a casual conversation without someone bringing up the Eras Tour, and even office workers were trading friendship bracelets in the leadup to Swift's shows.

Fashion retailers brought out Eras-inspired clothing lines and quickly sold out of cowboy hats, sequin skirts and anything with a Lover -style heart on it.

And when the shows finally did roll around, tens of Aussie A-listers were right there watching from the VIP tent , including the likes of Rebel Wilson and Toni Colette.

13,700: Number of TikToks tagged #ErasTourAustralia

13,700: Number of TikToks tagged #ErasTourAustralia

Over 13,700 TikToks have been posted with the #ErasTourAustralia hashtag to date and that number will keep growing in the days and weeks ahead as fans upload clips from Swift's final show.

The singer has dominated social media for the last several weeks and though her time Down Under is over, Aussie fans will use TikTok and Instagram to follow her next moves.

One: A single jet will fly her out of Australia today

One: A single jet will fly her out of Australia today

Today, Swift will board her private jet and depart Australia after a whirlwind tour that has left a lasting mark on the country.

She's off to Singapore for the next leg of the Eras Tour, followed by several weeks in Europe, then Canada.

With a new album, The Tortured Poet's Department , set to drop on April 19, the 34-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down.

We just hope Australia won't have to wait another six years to see her here again.

Netflix original [ ]

On December 13, 2018, Taylor thanked everyone for her birthday wishes on Instagram and also announced that there was going to be a tour movie for the Reputation Stadium Tour that would be released on New Year's Eve, titled Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour . It was filmed at the last Dallas/Arlington show, which was the final US leg date. It featured the surprise song " All Too Well ".

Taylor Swift designed her own stage, complete with an elevator, and a rapid changing room for her eight costumes.

The main screen was 110 feet tall and and made of 12 columns and 1,5OO LED tiles that split into 49 individual screens that moved depending on the song. The stage design is an X shape and it also features a B & C Stage that Taylor accessed with the floating constellation and snake gondolas during " Delicate " and the " Bad Blood "/" Should've Said No " mashup. The band played right behind the main screen and during certain parts of the show, the screen opened and the audience could see them.

During " Look What You Made Me Do ", there was a giant inflatable snake named Karyn on the stage as well as smaller inflatable snakes on the B & C Stage and for the show encore, a water fountain was installed on stage. There were also fire, smoke and fireworks effects throughout the show from the stage. The LED bracelets distributed to the attendees were interactive with the songs and stage visuals.

  • On July 14, Swift performed " Our Song " and " Wildest Dreams " a cappella after the levitating gondola used during " Delicate " malfunctioned. She did not go by the first B stage or do the crowd walk, and instead did every song she would've performed on the first B stage, on the C stage.
  • On July 21, Swift performed " Clean " before the " Long Live "/" New Year's Day " mashup, because it was raining.

Why Taylor Swift’s fans aren’t buying tickets to her Reputation concerts

WHY is the ‘Bad Blood’ singer struggling to sell tickets to her upcoming Reputation concerts?

WHAT is Taylor Swift’s “Reputation” worth? Not the jacked-up prices she’s charging for concert tickets.

That’s the verdict from ticked-off US fans, who are baulking at buying seats for the 28-year-old pop star’s tour to promote her new Reputation album, citing stratospheric mark-ups and greedy sales gimmicks, reports the New York Post .

Tickets to Swift’s 2018 shows in Australia went on sale on December 12 and are also yet to sell out. Prices range from $104.40 for D reserve seats to $818.05 for the “Snake Pit Package”, which includes a premium general admission ticket and collector’s box with “exclusive tour artwork and memorabilia”.

“I paid US$150 (A$192) for my ticket with amazing seats for the 1989 tour,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “Now for the same seats I have to pay about US$500 (A$640).”

A look at US Ticketmaster’s interactive seat charts confirms that Swift’s schedule of 33 dates for the North American “Reputation” tour has yet to produce a single sellout, from its May 8 launch in Phoenix to its October 6 finale in Arlington, Texas.

That’s despite seats being available to the general public since Swift’s birthday on Dec. 13. By comparison, all the dates on Swift’s “1989” tour in 2015 “sold out within minutes,” according to concertsandsports.com.

“Sales so far have been a mega disappointment,” one music-industry insider told The Post . “There are hundreds if not thousands of tickets left for every show.”

The stumble out of the gate is especially embarrassing given that the Reputation album sold more than 1 million copies within four days of its November 10 release.

lollll there’s so many seats left because prices are so crazy — liz khalifa (@AstoundingSwift) December 13, 2017

On top of high prices, some prospective buyers are getting irked by Ticketmaster’s “Verified Fan” program, which required participants to register weeks before tickets went on presale, proving they were and bona fide fans and not bots looking to buy tickets for scalpers.

Ticketmaster, which has used Verified Fan for U2 concerts, Broadway musical Hamilton , Springsteen on Broadway and other big shows, told The Post the program tries to “provide fans with the most reliable access to tickets and combat bad actors that use bots that subvert that process”.

But Verified Fan — which got rebranded to “Taylor Swift Tix” for the tour — has added a controversial feature called “boosts” that promises fans a chance to “improve [their] position in line to purchase tickets”.

Sales for Taylor Swift’s US concerts have been a big disappointment. Picture: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images

Some boosts were innocuous, such as joining Swift’s official mailing list. But others cost money, such as pre-ordering the Reputation album, shelling out $50 for a T-shirt or purchasing the $60 snake ring that Swift wore in her Look What You Made Me Do music video.

“To get ‘further in line’ to buy Taylor Swift tickets she wants you [to] buy merch from her … this greedy snake,” Twitter user “Q_Taryntino” fumed.

Music blogger Bob Lefsetz called Taylor Swift Tix “a tone-deaf scam” that amounts to “upselling with a theoretical benefit” rather than a guarantee of better seats.

Indeed, some fans who bought into the “Reputation” tour’s presale between December 5 and December 8 got nasty surprises when tickets opened up to the general public five days later.

“I wasted my time buying with the presale code as the tickets available to the public were much better,” Twitter user “paigelizabethh” wrote.

Literally pulled out a loan just to purchase @taylorswift13 concert tickets. 🙌🏻 Grad school can’t stop be from seeing my girl — Kaila (@kayy__baybaby) January 2, 2018

“Any particular reason that #Reputation tickets in the 100s section during presale last week were US$446 (A$571) APIECE and now they’re US$267 (A$341)????” asked “bigbiiisch”.

Ticketmaster touted Taylor Swift Tix as “an unparalleled success”, saying it delivered “the biggest registration we’ve ever had”.

By charging higher prices and blocking out scalpers, Swift and her promoter Louis Messina could fatten their coffers by as much as US$1.5 million (A$1.9 million) per show, according to an estimate in Billboard.

That sounds like a shrewd business strategy, but Swift still has a lot of tickets to sell to make that upside. In the meantime, the “Swifties” are getting restless.

“Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour tickets sold out in only a couple of hours,” one disaffected fan, alexiam77, tweeted. “Today, you can *still* get really well-placed Reputation floor seats. If that doesn’t tell you your tickets are too expensive, idk what will.”

Swift’s tour promoter, Messina, didn’t respond to requests for comment. Swift’s music distributor, Universal, said it wasn’t immediately able to comment.

It’s a Taylor Swift sweep on Australia’s charts, as The Tortured Poets Department (via Universal) and “Fortnight” blast to No. 1.

Tortured Poets opens at the summit of the ARIA Albums Chart , published Friday, April 26, for her lucky 13th leader in these parts.

With that result, Swift boasts the most No. 1 albums for a solo female artist in ARIA chart history, moving ahead of Madonna to claim outright third place.

Post Malone

Taylor swift, 'american idol': jack blocker impresses with country cover of 'believe' for top 8 spot.

All 31 tracks from the double album impact the top 100, with “Robin” the lowest at No. 55. Three older songs sit in the top 100 (“Cruel Summer,” “Anti Hero” and “Lover”), meaning Swift has more than one-third of all songs in the top 100 (34). The previous record was 32 in one week, ARIA reports, held by Michael Jackson and Taylor.

Swift, whose The Eras Tour visited Australia in late 2023 for seven shows, is the only artist in ARIA history to replace themselves at No. 1 on the national albums tally. She has done it three times, including this month with Tortured Poets replacing Lover (earlier, in 2023, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) replaced Midnights ; and in March 2024, Lover replaced Midnights ).

According to a statement issued late Friday by Universal Music Australia, Tortured Poet s is the most-sold album on vinyl in ARIA history, the market’s most-streamed LP in its opening week, and the biggest album debut since Adele’s 25 in 2015.

Remarkably, only two of the U.S. pop superstar’s studio or re-recorded albums have failed to reach the summit in Australia — her self-titled debut, Taylor Swift (peaking at No. 33 in 2006) and Fearless (No. 2 in 2008). Fearless (Taylor’s Version) did, however, climb the summit in 2021.

In non TTPD -related ARIA Chart news, Pearl Jam bows at No. 2 with Dark Matter, the Seattle rock legends’ 12th studio album. Pearl Jam has had eight No. 1 albums in Australia: Vs. in 1993, Vitalogy in 1994, No Code in 1996, Yield in 1998, Binaural in 2000, Riot Act in 2002, Backspacer in 2009 and Lightning Bolt in 2013. Dark Matter is the followup to 2020’s Gigaton , which peaked at No. 3.

50 photos that show Taylor Swift's meteoric rise from a Nashville country singer to the most famous musician in the world

  • Taylor Swift released her 11th studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," on Friday.
  • In the 18 years since she released her debut album, Swift has become a billionaire.
  • Here's a photographic journey through her career, her many eras, and her blockbuster tours.

Insider Today

In the 18 years since Taylor Swift released her first album, she's been a country star, a pop star, and a voice of a generation.

She's a four-time album of the year winner, a billionaire, and the first person with a tour grossing $1 billion . She also rocked the music industry when she decided to re-record her first five albums so she'd own the rights to her own music.

Plus, her 11th album, " The Tortured Poets Department ," is set for a massive debut on the charts after it was released on Friday.

But she wasn't always this juggernaut. Here's a look at her impressive career, from her 2006 debut to her 2024 superstardom.

Taylor Swift released her self-titled debut album in 2006. At the time, there was no telling that this 16-year-old country singer would become one of the most iconic musicians in history.

But by May 2007, Swift was already playing to large crowds. At the time, her aesthetic consisted of flowy dresses, acoustic guitar, curly hair, and cowboy boots.

Her guitar has been a constant companion from 2007 to 2024.

Swift's debut single was "Tim McGraw," named, of course, after the country star. In May 2007, she performed the song to him and his wife, Faith Hill, at the Academy of Country Music Awards.

An EP, “Beautiful Eyes,” was released in July 2008, just two months after she performed at Stagecoach Music Festival — essentially, country music's Coachella.

Even as her star was rising, Swift made time to take selfies with fans — on digital cameras!

By August 2009, her second album "Fearless" had been released and she was headlining Madison Square Garden.

A turning point in her career came during the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009, when Kanye West interrupted her acceptance speech to declare Beyoncé deserved the award.

In December, she performed with one of her then-musical idols, John Mayer. The two would go on to briefly date, inspiring her song "Dear John."

At the 2010 Grammys, Swift performed with Stevie Nicks — 14 years later, Swift referenced their connection in the song "Clara Bow."

Later that night, the "You Belong With Me" singer was gobsmacked to win album of the year. She'd later write about this night in "Long Live."

Her third album, "Speak Now," was released in October 2010. The world tour began in February 2011.

It sold over 1 million copies in its first week, the highest single-week sales for a female country artist. She also became the first female artist to have 11 songs on the Hot 100 simultaneously.

She continued to collaborate with musical legends. She brought James Taylor out at her Madison Square Garden show in November 2011.

In 2012, she made her first jump away from country music to more straightforward pop. The cowboy boots were nowhere to be found.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

The debut single from her fourth album, "Red," called "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," became her first No. 1 on the Hot 100.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

As her musical style changed, so did her style. She traded flowing dresses and cowboy boots for form-fitting dresses and high heels; gone was the curly hair, traded for sleek straight tresses.

The Red Tour grossed $150.2 million, making it the highest-grossing country tour ever when it ended in 2014.

She became the first female solo artist in 20 years to perform a stadium tour in Australia. The last female artist to do it was Madonna in 1993.

In August 2014, she left behind country with the song "Shake It Off," a pure pop song.

Later that year, she performed at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show beside then-BFF Karlie Kloss.

"1989," Swift's fifth album, remains a high point of her career. It elevated Swift to pop-icon status and spawned three No. 1 hits and two more top-10 singles.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

It was also the era of her "squad." People are still captivated by who is in Swift’s inner circle.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

To top off the "1989" era, she won her second album of the year Grammy in February 2016.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

Her bleached blonde era — known as "Bleachella," since she debuted it at Coachella in 2016 — showed that people were obsessed with her every move.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

But by July 2016, Swift had vanished. Her feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had resurfaced, with many on social media turning against her.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

In 2017, she cleared her social media and told us: "There will be no explanation, just reputation." Her sixth album, "Reputation," was released in November.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

"Reputation" brought a new dark and gritty aesthetic. But the old Taylor, who loves interacting with her fans, was still in there.

The Reputation Stadium Tour was her first all-stadium tour. Upon its completion in November 2018, it grossed $345.7 million, making it the highest-grossing North American tour ever.

In a savvy move, she reclaimed the snake imagery that had been used against her by critics.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

But after her two years of all-black edginess, 2019 brought a complete aesthetic shift.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

Her seventh album, "Lover," which was released in August 2019, is full of love songs, pastel rainbows, and bubblegum pop.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

"Lover" was her sixth consecutive No. 1 album and the best-selling album of 2019. Her concerts for the album were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

In July 2020, Swift surprised fans with her eighth album, "Folklore." It would go on to win album of the year — she was the first woman ever to win three times.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

After a seven-year hiatus, she returned to her country roots. She performed the song "Betty" at the 2020 Academy of Country Music Awards.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

In November 2021, Swift released the 10-minute version of her song "All Too Well" from 2012. She also directed an accompanying short film starring Dylan O'Brien and Sadie Sink.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

"Red (Taylor’s Version)," her re-recorded version of the 2012 album "Red" was a huge hit. "All Too Well (10-Minute Version)" became the longest No. 1 song in the chart's history.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

But just re-recording wasn't enough for Swift. In August 2022, she announced her 10th album, "Midnights," which became yet another hit.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

The year 2023 was the year of Swift, as she embarked on her globe-spanning Eras Tour. The setlist pays homage to her career. She brought out the gold fringe for the "Fearless" set.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

Since "Lover" never got a tour of its own, it kicks off the show. Four years after its release, Swifties got "Cruel Summer" to the top of the Hot 100.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

During her "Speak Now" set, she brings back her koi-fish guitar and the purple dresses.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

During the "Red" set, she interacts with some of her youngest fans.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

In the "1989" portion, we get taken back in time to when Swift loved a two-piece set.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

The "Reputation" era might be long gone, but the snakes are back for this portion of the show.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

She also pays homage to the woodsy, cottage-core vibes of "Folklore" and its sister album, "Evermore."

reputation tour taylor swift australia

Swift ends the night with the "Midnights" set, which spawned two of her two most recent hits, "Karma" and "Anti-Hero."

reputation tour taylor swift australia

The Eras Tour has become a global phenomenon. It's the first tour to ever surpass $1 billion in revenue ... and it's not over yet.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

In February 2024, Swift became the first artist to win album of the year four times when she won for "Midnights." That night, she announced her 11th album, "The Tortured Poets Department."

reputation tour taylor swift australia

On its release, Swift surprised fans by announcing "TTPD" is a double album, and she dropped 15 more songs. It's set to be, once again, huge.

reputation tour taylor swift australia

In 18 years, Swift has released 11 albums, four re-records, won 14 Grammys, had 11 No. 1 hits, become a billionaire, and broken countless records. She's showing no sign of slowing down.

Taylor Swift Concert Movies: What to Watch While You Wait for the Eras Tour

Lauren Rouse Avatar

If you’re a disappointed Aussie Swiftie, it’s worth remembering that Taylor Swift has many other concert movies and specials you can watch while you wait, and we’ve broken down where you can see them below.

Where to watch all of Taylor Swift’s concert movies

taylor swift concert movie

Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless

Taylor Swift’s first headline tour in 2009 was for her second album, Fearless. This also marked the release of her first concert movie – a series of 3 episodes titled Journey to Fearless that tracked Swift’s rise to fame. After airing on TV, the documentary came to DVD and Blu-Ray in 2011. This remains the only way to watch Journey to Fearless, but if you’re lucky, there are still some DVDs floating around out there that you can snap up on marketplaces.

Taylor Swift: Speak Now World Tour Live

Following the Fearless tour came Speak Now. Speak Now World Tour – Live was Swift’s first live album and was released in 2011. As was so common in those days, the release of the CD came with an additional DVD that featured live recordings of Swift performing songs on the tour, as well as behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage.

You can actually still buy the CD/DVD combo of Speak Now World Tour – Live at Sanity in Australia if you’re keen to revisit that era.

Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour

taylor swift concert movie

Skip forward a few years, and Taylor Swift’s next concert movie comes in the form of the Reputation Stadium Tour, which was also her last tour prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Filming of the performance took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and the Reputation Stadium Tour concert movie was subsequently released on Netflix.

Miss Americana

While not strictly a concert movie per se, Miss Americana is a documentary that follows Taylor Swift over the course of several years of her career, including the Reputation Tour, up until the release of Lover . The documentary was released to critical acclaim in 2020.

Miss Americana is available to stream on Netflix.

Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions

Taylor Swift directed and starred in this documentary of the recording of her eighth studio album, Folklore . The film takes an in-depth look at the creative process behind the songs, including the collaboration between Swift, Aaron Dressner and Jack Antonoff. It was filmed at Long Pond Studio in Hudson Valley, New York.

Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions can be streamed on Disney+

These are, in fact, not the only concert movies Taylor Swift has released, but they are the only ones available to watch right now.

The 1989 World Tour Live movie was famously recorded at ANZ Stadium in Sydney! But unfortunately, after being released initially on Apple Music, it has since been pulled down. If you go looking on YouTube, however, you can still find it in full.

Swift also performed at an intimate concert in Paris, France, in September 2019 for the City of Lover Concert , which was filmed and released as a TV special in the US. That one hasn’t been released on streaming since, unfortunately.

Can you watch the Eras Tour Concert movie in Australia?

taylor swift australia

Right now, the Eras Tour concert film only has a release date in the U.S. (which is October 13).

I’m willing to bet that, similar to the Eras tour itself, the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film will be released in more markets in the future, particularly as the tour begins to hit the international road. Perhaps we’ll see it released in Australia after February next year, once Swift has completed her concerts here .

Taylor Swift at the 2024 Grammy awards.

Taylor Swift equals Madonna’s record of 12 UK No 1 albums

Swift now has joint highest number of chart-toppers for a female artist, as The Tortured Poets Department earns biggest opening week in seven years

Taylor Swift has tied with Madonna to become the female artist with the most UK No 1 albums, earning her twelfth chart-topper with the global phenomenon that is The Tortured Poets Department.

Swift also dominates this week’s singles chart, with three songs in the Top Five including a No 1 for Fortnight, featuring Post Malone. It’s her fourth No 1 single, and her third chart double.

With 207,000 chart sales, a figure combined from streams and purchases, The Tortured Poets Department outsold the rest of the Top 10 combined and has the UK’s biggest opening week of sales in seven years, since Ed Sheeran’s ÷ in 2017.

Bruce Springsteen also has 12 No 1s, while the only artists with more are the Beatles (16), the Rolling Stones (14), Robbie Williams (14) and Elvis Presley (13).

No artist has got to 12 No 1s as swiftly as Swift, though – she did it in 11 years and six months, considerably quicker than the Beatles, who needed to wait until 1977’s The Beatles at Hollywood Bowl to get their 12th. Eight of those No 1s have been since 2020, partly thanks to her project to re-record her albums from an ill-fated deal with former label Big Machine.

The Tortured Poets Department, a 31-track, two-hour double album which includes songs that pick apart her recent relationships with actor Joe Alwyn and singer Matty Healy with unflinching candour, has further established Swift as the century’s biggest music star.

It became the most streamed album in a single day on Spotify, then the fastest album to reach a billion streams on the platform. Twenty-two of the 50 most streamed songs globally on Thursday were by Swift.

After three days on sale, Swift had sold 700,000 vinyl copies of The Tortured Poets Department in the US, breaking the weekly record (since records began in 1991). That number is particularly remarkable considering that around a million vinyl albums were sold in total in the US in 2023, with nearly 10% of those sold by Swift (chiefly her album Midnights).

The rest of the UK chart is put rather in the shade, but last week’s singles chart-topper Hozier manages to outsell a couple of Swift’s songs and sit at No 2. Swift’s recent tour support artist Sabrina Carpenter rises to No 5 with her peppy Espresso, now the second-most streamed track globally on Spotify.

In the album chart, Pearl Jam reach No 2 with Dark Matter to earn their tenth UK Top 10 album and joint-highest placing. UB40 reach No 5 with their album UB45, their highest placing since 1994. Thanks to a special Record Store Day release, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours – spending its 1,042nd week in the UK charts – jumps up to No 9.

With TTPD out in the world, Swift now looks to the next leg of her Eras tour. After concluding the Asia and Australia leg with six nights at Singapore’s National Stadium in March, she will begin the European leg on 9 May with four nights in Paris. Eras reaches the UK on 7 June at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, and later includes eight dates at Wembley Stadium, equalling a record set by Take That.

According to data by US live music analysts Pollstar, Eras had already made over $1bn in revenue by the end of 2023, and estimates that by the end of the tour in December it will gross over $2bn – comprehensively beating the previous record of $939m set by Elton John’s farewell tour.

She will probably score her 13th No 1 album as early as 2024, with fans looking forward to her re-recorded version of 2017 album Reputation – a release date has not yet been announced.

Will Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Setlist Change After ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Release?

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 001

Taylor Swift ’s The Tortured Poets Department has already captivated the world , leaving her fans to wonder whether any of the new songs will pop up on her Eras Tour setlist.

Swift, 34, kicked off her three-hour concert series in March 2023 in Arizona, soon traversing the United States, Central and South America, Asia and Australia. The shows highlight most of her past albums: Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights . There also is a section dedicated to “surprise songs,” where Swift adds two new acoustic renditions (most recently, mash-ups) to the show.

Swift has been on hiatus since early March, weeks before The Tortured Poets Department dropped on Friday, April 19. The record, her 11th studio album, features 31 songs including “Fortnight,” “So Long, London,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “So High School” and “thanK you aIMee.”

Swift’s fans planning to see Eras later this year — the tour leg kicks off in Paris on Thursday, May 9 — have since taken to social media, curious if they will be able to hear any TTPD live.

“OK listen I NEED Taylor to add ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ to the Eras Tour setlist. … Just that ONE. … PLEASE. … It was MADE for the Eras Tour !!!!!!!!!!” a social media user wrote via X.

Another added, “I am so obsessed with Taylor’s new album idk how to survive the Eras Tour (if I actually go twice I might just drop dead afterwards).”

Will Taylor Swift s Eras Tour Setlist Change After The Tortured Poets Department Release 002

Since Eras has sections dedicated to Swift’s previous albums , it is possible that TTPD could get its own mini-set in the lineup. Not all of her preexisting cohorts feature the same amount of songs, so Swift could cut some songs in order to add a time for Tortured Poets additions .

Spotify added further fuel to the fire on Friday as Swifties noticed the streaming platform’s official video for “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” a TTPD track, features footage solely from the Eras Tour.

Swift’s musical director David Cook , who has also been featured on several of her past LPs, also hinted that TTPD songs could make an appearance on the tour lineup.

“Not sure how much I can add to the discourse other than this album is really REALLY good. You FEEL it,” Cook wrote via Instagram on Friday, quoting “Loml” with a mind-blown emoji.

According to eagle-eyed Swifties that captured screenshots, Cook also wrote, “Wait until you hear the live versions.” The addition, however, has since been deleted.

Of course, it is also possible that Swift will drop a TTPD single in her surprise song section.

“How will The Tortured Poets Department affect the Eras Tour ? Hopefully only on surprise songs (in a good way),” an X user theorized.

While Swift has yet to address if TTPD will affect her Eras Tour setlist, she’s given fans insight into how she picks song s for the acoustic section.

“This has become my favorite part of the show because it’s become very chaotic and it’s become a challenge for me to think of new things to do for every single city,” Swift told the crowd in Singapore in March. “And hope that I’m doing something that you guys might like. It’s been a blast!”

Per the Grammy winner, she “invented [her] crazy acoustic section,” to be able to play “as many songs” as she could way over the 44 staples at each show. Adding TTPD tracks there seems like an easy way to do just that, if you ask Us.

The Tortured Poets Department is out now and Swift’s Eras Tour resumes on Thursday, May 9.

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY

In the 18 months after Taylor Swift released Midnights, it often felt as though the universe had fully opened up to her. The Eras Tour was breaking records and blowing past the billion-dollar mark; its attendant concert film became the highest-grossing of all time. She generated interest and commerce and headlines everywhere she stepped foot, from tour stops to the tunnels of NFL stadiums. In 2023, she was named both TIME magazine’s Person of the Year and—just as iconic, tbh—Apple Music’s Artist of the Year. But do songs about that level of success speak to you? As the news broke that her highly private six-year relationship to Joe Alwyn had ended, Swifties started Swiftie-ing, quickly recirculating a clip on social media of Swift a few weeks earlier, onstage during an early Eras show, in tears as she sang “champagne problems”—a song she and Alwyn had written together. It was a reminder that, despite the superhero-like aura she now radiates, Swift, at her peak, still hurts like the rest of us. What sets her apart is her ability to sublimate that pain into pop. When she announced her 11th studio album in early 2024—while accepting another Grammy, as one does—we probably shouldn’t have been surprised. “I needed to make it,” she’d say of THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT a few weeks later, to a crowd of—[rubs eyes]—96,000 in Melbourne, Australia. “I’ve never had an album where I’ve needed songwriting more than I needed it on TORTURED POETS.” Working again with trusted collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, she returns to the soft, comfortable, bed-like sonics of Midnights. But the stakes feel noticeably higher here: This isn’t so much a breakup album as it is a deep-sea exploration of everything Swift has been feeling, a plunge through emotional debris. On “But Daddy I Love Him”—over strings and guitar that faintly recall her country roots—she lashes out at the crush of scrutiny and expectation she’s been subject to from the start. Naturally, catharsis comes after the chorus: “I’ll tell you something right now,” she sings. “I’d rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning.” On “Florida!!!” she and Florence + the Machine team up for a pulpy escape fantasy wherein they Thelma and Louise their way down to the Sunshine State in hopes of starting over with new lives and identities: “Love left me like this,” they sing. “And I don’t want to exist.” At turns hilarious and heartbreaking, TTPD is a study in extremes, Swift leaning into heightened emotions with heightened, hyperbolic, ALL-CAPS language and imagery—how we think when we’re drunk on love or flattened by its sudden disappearance. Note the dark humor she weaves through the Post Malone-enriched opener “Fortnight” (“Your wife waters flowers/I wanna kill her”). Or the thrilling self-deprecation of “Down Bad,” a foray into science fiction wherein Swift likens the warmth of a relationship to being abducted by love-bombing extraterrestrials—only to be left “naked and alone, in a field in my same old town.” But this remains her most candid and unsparing work to date: As a listener, you frequently get the feeling that you’ve stumbled across emails she’d written but never sent, or into conversations you were never meant to hear. There’s a density and a specificity and a ferocity to her lyrical work here that makes 2012’s “All Too Well” feel sorta light by comparison. If you’re the kind of Swiftie who likes to live in the details, well, this one might be your Super Bowl. “You swore that you loved me, but where were the clues?” she asks on the devastating “So Long, London,” a high point. “I died on the altar waiting for the proof.” Alone at a piano on the haunting “loml,” she flips the script on someone who’d told her she was the love of their life, by telling them that they were the loss of hers: “I’ll still see it until I die.” The story, as you likely know, doesn’t end there. We get a glimpse of new beginnings in “The Alchemy” (“This happens once every few lifetimes/These chemicals hit me like white wine”) and something like triumph in the montage-ready synths of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” when Swift, shattered on the floor, “as the crowd was chanting, ‘More!’,” still finds the strength to deliver: “’Cause I’m a real tough kid and I can handle my shit.” But we also get a sense of acceptance, of newfound perspective. On “Clara Bow”—named after a 1920s movie star who was able to survive the jump from silent film to sound—Swift reflects on the journey of a small-town girl made good, sung from the vantage of an industry obsessed with the next big thing. She zooms out and out and out until, in the album’s closing seconds, she’s singing about herself in the third person, in past tense, acknowledging that nothing is forever. “You look like Taylor Swift in this light, we’re loving it,” she sings. “You’ve got edge she never did/The future’s bright, dazzling.”
