Day 1 : Fly to Montreal

We begin our tour of Canada with a relaxing flight to Montreal.

Day 2 : Montreal

Kick off our Canadian getaway with a Montreal city tour led by a professional local guide. A major highlight will be visiting the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, where its vibrantly-colored interior is widely recognized as an architectural masterpiece. Enjoy lunch and free time in historic Old Montreal. We then travel by motorcoach to Quebec City for a two-night stay. We stop at Erabliere le Chemin du Roy, an authentic maple syrup sugar shack from the 1920s. Learn about maple syrup production and savor an all-you-can-eat Welcome Dinner with a sweet maple treat for dessert.

Day 3 : Quebec City

Our day begins with a guided stroll through the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Quebec's Historic District. Here, it feels like we are transported to Europe complete with fortified walls, cobblestone paths, and French culture. Lunch is served at the prominent Fairmont Le Château Frontenac overlooking the St. Lawrence River. We have the afternoon and evening at leisure to explore this delightful city.

Day 4 : Montmorency Waterfall

After a relaxing morning, we visit the impressive Montmorency Waterfall. At 272 feet it is almost 100 feet taller than Niagara Falls. An aerial tram transports us to the top where we may cross a suspension bridge over the falls before enjoying a delicious lunch at Manoir Montmorency. We gather in the afternoon to learn about copper art and browse Albert Gilles’ masterpieces at the Copper Art Studio and Museum, then get creative at the studio workshop as we make our own copper artwork to take home. Next, we visit Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre Shrine, a popular pilgrimage site dedicated to the grandmother of Jesus. Later, we board VIA Rail’s The Ocean passenger train and experience the thrill of rail travel as we continue our journey east. Enjoy top-notch service and private accommodations as first-class passengers in Sleeper Plus cars.

Day 5 : VIA Rail

Enjoy breakfast and lunch in the dining car as we roll by the beautiful landscapes of New Brunswick. We disembark in Moncton, then travel by motorcoach to Prince Edward Island. We cross Confederation Bridge, which spans eight miles over the Northumberland Strait and is part of the Trans-Canada Highway. We arrive in Charlottetown and settle into our comfortable accommodations for two nights.

Day 6 : Prince Edward Island

We begin the day exploring scenic Prince Edward Island, including a visit to Green Gables Heritage Place, the 19th-century farm that was the setting to Anne of Green Gables . Take in stunning views of red sandstone cliffs and picturesque beaches at Prince Edward Island National Park before returning to Charlottetown for time at leisure. Tonight, we enjoy a spectacular performance at the Confederation Center of the Arts.

Day 7 : Cape Breton Island

This morning we take a ferry ride to Nova Scotia, then travel over the Canso Causeway to Cape Breton Island. Tour through the life of Baddeck's most famous resident at the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. The exhibits showcase Bell’s many accomplishments and inventions, including the telephone. Later, we check in to our Baddeck accommodations for two nights.

Day 8 : The Cabot Trail

Today we travel along one of North America’s most scenic roadways, The Cabot Trail. On the way we pass through Cape Breton Highlands National Park, where unspoiled natural beauty sets the stage for dramatic landscapes and incredible coastal vistas. As we cruise the trail, we make a rest stop at the Les Trois Pignons Cultural Centre, Museum, and Gallery to learn about the area's Acadian history and rug hooking traditions. After lunch, we visit The Gaelic College to experience the island’s Gaelic history.

Day 9 : Halifax

Enjoy an included breakfast at our hotel before departing Cape Breton Island and returning to mainland Nova Scotia. On our way to Halifax we tour the Millbrook Cultural & Heritage Centre to learn about the First Nations people, indigenous to Canada’s Maritime provinces. We arrive in Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, and check in to our hotel for two relaxing nights.

Day 10 : Peggy’s Cove

We embark on a tour of Halifax with a local guide. Major highlights include the Halifax Citadel, a former military fortification with a distinctive star shape. After leisure time along Halifax's waterfront, we travel to Peggy’s Cove, a quaint fishing community famous for its iconic lighthouse and views of the Atlantic Coast. We visit Peggy’s Point Lighthouse and celebrate our vacation in Eastern Canada with a delicious lobster Farewell Dinner at nearby Sou’Wester restaurant.

Day 11 : Fly Home

" Originally from London, I worked at a hotel in Germany and as a Local Guide in northern Italy before becoming a Tour Director. I have conducted tours all over Europe, North Africa, Asia Minor, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Russia, South America, and all 10 provinces of Canada. Today, I call Toronto home. I love to cook, process the pictures I take on tour, and read. Every day, I wake up and have a wonderful, learning experience awaiting me. "

" Growing up in a family hotel business, I have interacted with the traveling public since I was a child. I have over 35 years of experience in the travel industry and have guided tours in Canada and Europe since 1996. After living in Denmark and traveling the world, I currently call Halifax, Nova Scotia home and it is my privilege to share this beautiful country of Canada, both the east and west coast, with visitors from around the world. Wonders of the Maritimes & Scenic Cape Breton (11 destinations)

Bus driver and tour guides were excellent: very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were fine, most lunches and dinners provided to us were good, as well. All hotels, with the exception of the Silver Dart, were excellent. At the Silver Dart, we had to request a room change because of the heavy mildew in the room. The carpeting was also stained in several spots. This hotel needs updating and dehumidification. This was the only hotel that was far from the center of town, which made dining out a challenge, and was far below our standards. We met wonderful people and even exchanged phone numbers with a few. Despite the disappointment with the Silver Dart, the overall tour, meals, accommodations and fellow passengers made up for it! Excellent overall!

Wonders of the Bay of Fundy Tour

Wonders of the Bay of Fundy

Fantastic tour, our driver and guide were first rate, accommodation and food were great, and we went to many beautiful and fascinating places. It was wonderful also to be given introductions and talks by the friendly and helpful staff who worked at some of the sites we visited. I heartily revommend this tour!

Wonders of the Maritimes & Scenic Cape Breton with Ocean Train to Montreal Tour

  • Train & Rail

Wonders of the Maritimes & Scenic Cape Breton with Ocean Train to Montreal

The guide was very friendly and knowledgable. The observation car on the train was spoilt because we couldn't see out of the front windows. Apparently they are not cleaned in Halifax as they don't have the equipment, so they make the return journey to Montreal with uncleaned windows - there are so many people sleeping rough why can't they employ a couple of these people with water and mops to clean the windows? I am sure a member of the rail staff could supervise them for the few minutes this would take, and it would certainly improve the visibility and I am sure a few dollars would be appreciated by those who need it. I hope you pass this recommendation on and look forward to receiving any comments on this suggestion. One other point was our sleeping car was near the observation car and a long walk to the restaurant which was the other end of the train. People with mobility problems had difficulty making this walk - couldn't the restaurant car be nearer the middle? I was glad to visit Montreal again - I lived there in the 1960s when De Gaujl said 'Vivre le Quebec libre', and overnight it seemed all the English companies moved to Toronto. I was in an agency working with the Eskimos and the French worked with the Indians, and they amalgamated and so I too was out of a job and had to leave. Montreal has certainly expanded since the late 1960s. I understand that comfort on the train is not your department, but you may be listened to. I will certainly recommend this tour to people, and hope you will continue with it. Fiona Wilkins

What people love about nova scotia tours.

It was an excellent trip!
The wonders of the Bay of Fundy tour was the best tour I’ve ever been on. We were a small group who enjoyed each other’s company and shared many varied and interesting experiences. As a solo traveler I was welcomed by everyone in the group and never felt on my own. Our tour director, Eunice, was welcoming, knowledgeable and went the extra mile to ensure we really experienced the local culture and delicacies. Our coach driver, Hank, who was also welcoming and knowledgeable, had a quietly confident manner which made you feel extremely safe when on the road. He also went the extra mile to ensure we got the most out of every experience. I would highly recommend this tour.

We would like to express our appreciation for a wonderful trip arranged through Kris, Canada Rail Vacations. From start to finish it was an ideal trip for us to enjoy Canada scenery, atmosphere and hospitality. We were afforded the right amount of activity for the trip yet relaxing. The suggested route from Calgary to Jasper was just spectacular. The hotels we stayed in are in town. And of course the train ride is A plus. Again Thank you.

Manuel United States

Paulina booked an amazing Canada for my family. This was so easy to arrange. I just told her what we wanted to do and the time frame we had. She got back to me within a day with an outline of what she had arranged and shortly after that, I had a finalized tour. The price was very reasonable for the tour. This was an A++ experience and I'll definitely use Canada Rail Vacations for our next trip to Canada.
