Whitesnake Launch David Coverdale Farewell Tour: Videos, Set List
Whitesnake played the first date of David Coverdale ’s farewell tour last night with a performance at the 3 Arena in Dublin.
The band’s current lineup features founder and singer Coverdale, drummer Tommy Aldridge, guitarists Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra, keyboardist Michele Luppi, multi-instrumentalist Dino Jelusick and bassist Tanya O'Callaghan. It was the first Whitesnake show for O'Callaghan, who joined the band in 2021, becoming the first female member in the group’s history.
The band opened its set with “Bad Boys/Children of the Night,” a track combining two songs from 1987's self-titled album . From there, Whitesnake rolled into the title track from 1984’s Slide It In , followed by the power ballad “Love Ain’t No Stranger.”
Other set highlights included such hits as “Is This Love,” "Still of the Night" and “Here I Go Again.”
"Thank you, Dublin! You brought tears to an old snake's eyes," Coverdale wrote on Twitter following the show. "Blessings on you and yours for an unforgettable evening in the company of friends. ... The Irish Whitesnake choir was in exceptional form."
Videos from the performance, along with the full set list, can be found below.
Coverdale announced he’d be embarking on a final Whitesnake trek in October.
“Make no mistake, this is the farewell tour,” the singer insisted. “I'm 70. It's a very physically challenging thing for me to do at the best of times. But it's very important for me to achieve completion and to express my appreciation and gratitude to all the people … who've supported me for five decades, 50 years. It blows my mind – it really does.”
He was also clear to note that Whitesnake would continue.
“It's me, just David Coverdale, who's retiring from touring at that level. Whitesnake will still make projects,” he declared. “The music of Whitesnake will continue.”

Watch: WHITESNAKE Plays First Show With New Lineup At Farewell Tour Kick-Off In Dublin
WHITESNAKE launched its farewell tour Tuesday night (May 10) at Dublin, Ireland's 3Arena. The band's 14-song set, which was part of a European tour with special guests EUROPE and co-headliners FOREIGNER , marked WHITESNAKE 's inaugural performance with the group's two latest two additions, keyboardist, guitarist and backing vocalist Dino Jelusick , and Irish bassist Tanya O'Callaghan .
WHITESNAKE kicked off the concert with "Bad Boys" / "Children Of The Night" and played a set which drew heavily from the "Trouble" (1978), "Ready An' Willing" (1980), "Saints & Sinners" (1982), "Slide It In" (1984), "Whitesnake" (1987) and "Flesh & Blood" (2019) albums. WHITESNAKE also performed its staple cover of "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City" , a 1974 R&B song written by Michael Price and Dan Walsh , and first recorded by Bobby "Blue" Bland for the "Dreamer" album.
After the concert, WHITESNAKE frontman David Coverdale shared a number of photos on Twitter , writing in an accompanying message: "THANK YOU, DUBLIN!!! You Brought Tears To An Old Snakes Eyes…Blessings On You & Yours For An Unforgettable Evening In The Company Friends…The Irish Whitesnake Choir Was In Exceptional Form…XXX" He later added: "Once Again Our Sincere Gratitude For Such An Emotional Beginning To The Farewell Tour…Please Know You Are Truly Appreciated & Love DUBLIN!! God Bless Your Beautiful Hearts!"
O'Callaghan wrote on Instagram : "Thank you Ireland. My heart is so full, your energy was out of this world. Goodnight from a very sleepy, very smiley Irish woman. Sláinte! Oíche maith."
WHITESNAKE 's setlist was as follows:
01. Bad Boys / Children Of The Night 02. Slide It In 03. Love Ain't No Stranger 04. Hey You (You Make Me Rock) 05. Slow An' Easy 06. Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City 07. Fool For Your Loving 08. Trouble Is Your Middle Name 09. Crying In The Rain 10. Is This Love 11. Give Me All Your Love 12. Here I Go Again 13. Still Of The Night
14. Take Me With You
Coverdale , who turned 70 in September, recently opened up about his plans to retire from touring after the band's next batch of concerts around the world, telling the "Appetite For Distortion" podcast: "I planned to retire on the 2020 tour when I was 69. I thought that was the perfect age for the singer of WHITESNAKE to call it a day. But sadly, it was not to be, as we know; other events were in store. So now the t-shirt designs don't resonate as well for 70. But it's mind-blowing to me that I'm preparing my farewell tour. And it is — make no mistake, this is the farewell tour. I'm 70. It's a very physically challenging thing for me to do at the best of times. But it's very important for me to achieve completion and to express my appreciation and gratitude to all the people — the millions of people over the years — who've supported me for five decades, fifty years. It blows my mind — it really does."
"A lot of my peers and contemporaries are on their 20th retirement tour. I don't intend to plan that," he clarified. "I must explain, though — it's me, just David Coverdale , who's retiring from touring at that level. WHITESNAKE will still make projects. I've been writing music all through COVID. I wrote some beautiful new ideas. I have ideas in case Jimmy [ Page ] wants to do anything — write on FaceTime , which is an alien concept to him. But all songs that we can utilize for a WHITESNAKE project. But the music of WHITESNAKE will continue. That's most important that people know. I'm just stopping touring at this level — that's it."
According to Coverdale , there could very well be new music from WHITESNAKE in the years following his retirement from the road.
"I've got a bunch of ideas for WHITESNAKE , so we may have another project there — I don't know — without the pressure of having to go on tour," he said. "We have such a solid fanbase, I think fans are gonna buy the record with or without a tour. This is just emotionally for me to be able to go out there and do stuff. And also, you've gotta remember, we've started this legacy series of box sets, similar to the 25th anniversary. We have, I think, the 35th anniversary of 'Slide It In' ; the 30th anniversary of the WHITESNAKE '87 album; we have a very special project planned to accompany the tour; we have another box set planned for this time next year. And then in 2023, we have the 30th anniversary of COVERDALE/PAGE , and the 50th anniversary of me joining DEEP PURPLE . Mind-blowing. So it's not like I'm retiring. [ Laughs ]
"Thankfully, physically and vocally, I still have the goods," he continued. "As my wife reminds me, I was actually touring up to spring in 2020, before lockdown. And I was 68 years old, and I'm still kicking ass. Of course, having an amazing band and an incredible and enthusiastic audience gives you that energizing aspect. It's just the traveling is challenging for me. But music is oxygen to me. I'm not gonna go fishing or take up crochet; I'm gonna definitely be doing projects. I'm lucky enough to have my own studio. It's the best of a bunch of worlds. And I have to thank people in person around the world for helping me to be in this position that I am in my life at this time. I don't wanna do it through a video [on] social media: 'Sorry we can't get out there, but thank you for 50 years.' That would be heartbreaking for me."
Coverdale had both his knees replaced with titanium in 2017 after suffering from degenerative arthritis. He later explained that he was in so much pain with arthritis in his knees that it hampered his ability to perform live.
WHITESNAKE had been touring in support of its latest album, "Flesh & Blood" , which was released in May 2019 via Frontiers Music Srl .

Whitesnake Add Singer Dino Jelusick (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) to Farewell Tour Lineup
As Whitesnake prepare to embark on their farewell tour, David Coverdale has announced that the band has now welcomed singer Dino Jelusick ( Trans-Siberian Orchestra , Dirty Shirley) to the band's live lineup.
Coverdale addressed the latest addition to the band in a new video (seen below) promoting the band's upcoming tour dates with Foreigner and Europe in the U.K. and Ireland.
"Not only is this amazing news — sadly, obviously, a farewell tour so we've got to see you there to celebrate five decadent decades of reptilian fun, but we'll be bringing with us a brand new snake," said the rock legend.
"About two years ago we had the pleasure of working together with an amazing young musician and singer in [Croatian capital city] Zagreb. We kept our eyes and ears on him since and I think he'll be an amazing addition to Whitesnake. So, Reb Beach, Joel Hoekstra, Michael Devin, Tommy Aldridge, Michele Luppi and Dino Jelusick will be taking the stage —the magnificent seven — on this farewell tour," Coverdale added.
Excited for the opportunity to share the stage with the rest of Whitesnake, Jelusick commented, "I am beyond honored to be part of one of my favorite bands of all time. To get the phone call from David Coverdale is something every singer and musician of my generation can only dream of; it still feels completely surreal. I cannot wait to start hitting the road with Whitesnake and, as the great DC said to me himself, to give a piece of my identity to the sound of this iconic band."
Jelusick, who is 29 years old, first gained notoriety as the winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark in 2003. The singer and multi-instrumentalist has since released multiple solo albums and is the current singer and keyboardist in Dirty Shirley (which also features guitar icon George Lynch). He has also been a member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra since 2016.
Below Coverdale's video announcement, you can see Jelusick performing the Deep Purple classics "Burn" and "Stormbringer" as a sampling of his capabilities.

Review by Paddy Gallagher for MPM
It’s a sign of the times when the bands you grew up with in your formative years announce Farewell Tours. Bodies get old and achy; voices begin to struggle as the natural aging process takes its toll.
Very few of us will have started our musical journey with Progressive Rock / Metal, it was listening to bands like those on stage tonight playing Heavy Rock and straight-ahead Heavy Metal.
Tonight, sees the first gig on Whitesnake “The Farewell Tour”. An emotional night full of the hard-hitting anthems of youth and not so youth taking centre stage.
As with many vocalists, some of whom are well more than 10 years his junior, DC, as the band affectionately calls him, now 70 years young and after nearly 50 years globetrotting to a stage near everybody, may not have the strong distinctive vocal chords of his youth, but to be afforded the honour of being in the same building as him for possibly one last time (?) while listening to that iconic voice and marvel at his stage craft, should not be missed by any fan of Heavy Rock and indeed Metal!.
Starting proceedings off are Europe. Perhaps misrepresented by the hits of yesteryear, mention their name and folk think “The Final Countdown”, “Carrie” and “Cherokee”.
That was 1986 and 8 albums have been released since, 6 of which came after an 11-year hiatus ending in 2003 all of which contain excellent heavy, blues-tinged Rock!!! Some marvellous riffage accompanied Joey Tempest’s vocals getting the fist pumps heading towards the ceiling.
It’ll be 40 years next year since Europe released their debut album and Joey’s voice must be commended; it’s still in top form! A 45-minute set of musical excellence with John Norum shredding with skilled perfection, the only downside being the minimal lighting afforded to the band, the spotlight operator having trouble keeping up with Joey as he hurdled over monitors.
It’s acknowledged they were the opening act but come on! There must be logistical reasons as obviously all three bands couldn’t bring a full stage production, but hopefully when they return in a headline capacity, Europe can strut their bluesy riffs in a full production of their own as indicated by Joey at the end of the gig with a “see you soon Dublin”.
After a change over, Foreigner took to the stage with a set up and lighting of near headline standard; and these guys showed their calibre, arena experience oozing from them. The hits flowed: “Double Vision”, “Head Games”, “Cold As Ice”, “Dirty White Boy” etc bringing the nostalgia.
Vocalist Kelly Hansen was proudly waving his Irish passport about revelling in playing his mother’s hometown, Bassist Jeff Pilson throwing his Metal shapes harking back to his musical history being a member of the classic Dokken line up and playing on 3 Dio albums.
His latest project, the most excellent Black Swan has just released their second album “Generation Mind” and they are highly recommended. It also features Ireland’s own Robin McAuley, Reb Beach from Whitesnake and Matt Starr who has played with Ace Frehley and Mr Big.
Encore time came around way too soon, but we were blessed with the presence of Mick Jones for 3 songs, including the had to be played “I Wanna Know What Love Is”. His presence emphasising the sheer abundance of musical talent within this building tonight. Brilliant to see him, 77 years young and as iconic as ever.
And so, we come to the Headline act. The amount of advertising this gig was getting on national radio gave worry of a poor attendance, but all three acts had a near capacity crowd with only a few blue, empty seats visible.
And how special was it to see DC strut his stuff one last time in Dublin? While his vocals may not be as strong as they were, he produced a seasoned, professional and emotional performance, evident in his speech towards the end of the gig.
Having been through a few members during its lifespan, tonight saw Whitesnake return with seasoned regular ‘Snakes Tommy Aldridge, Reb Beach, Joel Hoekstra and Michele Luppi.
New to the line-up was Dino Jelusick on Keyboards and historically the first female ‘Snake, Mullingar’s own Tanya O’Callaghan.
A special shout out to Tanya O’Callaghan; how special and nerve wrecking was it for her to perform her Whitesnake debut on home soil? She owned it, surely the big step in her career that will catapult her onwards to stardom. The crowd was right behind her tonight and delighted for her!
The classics were played including “Slide it In”, “Love Ain’t No Stranger”, “Slow an’ Easy” etc and a few cuts from the latest studio album “Flesh & Blood”. All the band played a blinder, and I must say, kudos to Tommy Aldridge, still pounding out a magnificent drum solo, partly with his hands, at 71 is a testament to him!
As stated earlier by Joey Tempest and re-iterated again by DC, after the last 2 years isn’t it great to be back on the road and on stage and mingling with like minded people. Don’t take nights like this for granted folks! Life is fragile and time marches on.
As we headed off into the still of the night to the echoes of “We Wish You Well”, nobody will make us afraid DC, we wish you well; we thank you for a lifetime of soul touching music. And if you do decide to tour again, we won’t complain. We’ll be there!
