My group of 8 Fun Girls, actually senior ladies, booked Carnival Freedom for January 29, 2022. Now that CDC is recommending that nobody sail, some of us and our families are concerned and think we should cancel or postpone. I personally do not want to lose any money and realize if I were to try to cancel now, I could lose money, onboard credit, etc. Just asking for opinions: Do you think Carnival will allow people to cancel for a refund or postpone with FCC in the next couple of weeks? I realize anything can happen, any of us could test positive or our flights could be canceled. We were so looking forward to this girls getaway cruise but under the circumstances, I am kind of hoping we will have the option to reschedule or cancel.

Probably a good chance, but you have to call Carnival.
Cdc meaningless to me, everyone knew travel was a risk. But if you dont want to cruise I'm betting too carnival will work with you. I'm probably your age, but I'm like bring it on, but I love to cruise.

Cruise Cancelled by Guest
If, following a declaration of a Public Health Emergency, you cancel a booking for a cruise scheduled during the declared emergency, or must cancel your booking because you are prohibited from traveling to the vessel due to a governmental travel restriction, but the cruise is not cancelled, you are entitled to a FCC for the amount paid to Carnival. In all other cases our standard cancellation policy will apply, as set forth in the Ticket Contract for your cruise.

Yes, you have to be patient to get through their phone lines right now. Can early when they first open. If you get the message their to busy to answer call back tomorrow, just call right back. Once through i was on hold for almost 2 hours. Finally got through, was able to cancel my b2b for the 8th and 15th. No penalties or fees, 100% refund. I moved it all over to my April 2023 cruise I already had booked.

I have come across such groups on many cruises. Those gals know how to have fun. I haven't seen similar groups of senior guys though. Another reason I want my DW to outlive me. She could party on.
Cinnamon2 - If things don't improve as your cruise approaches I fully expect Carnival to offer refunds and FCC. My guess is they will do that a few days to a week before the current offer expires. But thee is no benefit to cancelling now vs. waiting to just before the cruise.
OP here . . . thanks for your comments everyone! Just to clarify: I know according to the protocols in place now we cannot cancel without penalty unless we were to get a sympathetic agent on the phone. Just wondering if you guys/gals think there is a chance that Carnival will offer the option to cancel or reschedule. I'm hoping we see something soon. We booked this cruise in the summer of 2020 and at the time January 2022 was so far away we were sure the pandemic would be over and now here we are. I personally do not want to spend hours on the phone waiting for Carnival. We have 7 cabins booked through a TA so we could let her do the leg work. I am just trying to make decisions for myself and know what to recommend to the group.
I'm going to see what the numbers look like in Florida on the day I can do check in. If the numbers are really high I'm going to try to move all my money to my 2023 Alaska trip. I am curious though to see how my OBC is going to work out since I have quite a bit. Also not sure what Southwest will do since my Alaska trip is over 12 months later and I won't be able to use the funds by then?

It looks to be your TA will have to spend some time on the phone with carnival to clear this matter up.
As many here understand the purpose of the CDC.

What numbers will you be checking? Local infection rates? Occupancy of the cruise?
(is there a way to find out the occupancy of the cruise beforehand? )

I'll be checking Miami infection rates.

Your agent should have no problem cancelling for February. She needs to say protocols have changed and we cant do the new protocols and want a refund.
The last sentence above is what will allow you to cancel. You TA should be able to do it, you cant. You have to go through your ta. They own the booking. Me I'm happy with whatever the cruise will be, but I know some arent. I'm going no matter what. In fact I'm booked on a b2b. If I test positive it will be cut short and I'll deal with losing a week. But I see nothing to gain for me staying home. And btw I'm a senior like you. I'm just maybe more of a cruise addict than you, a die hard.

This didn't work for me a few days ago and I have done that same thing in the past. New protocols were announced through Jan. 31st. Cruises up to and including Jan. 14th could cancel for refund or FCC. My Jan. 15th cruise could only be moved to another date at the prevailing rate. It was a casino offer. Carnival may extend the cancel offer closer to Jan. 15th, but my travel arrangements weren't that flexible and I decided to move my cruise to next year.

Idk if a casino rate is treated differently. Thanks for your experience. I've read some who got refunds and who didnt. I'm assuming op doesnt have a casino offer though and I'm sure you have to push that you cant do the protocols. .. definitely a hard choice.
We were scheduled for a February 2022 cruise and decided not to go. Our reasons were many, much of it anxiety. We’ve been cruising for many years and always went relaxed, and stress-free, which made for nice vacations. Our upcoming Feb. 2022 cruise was beginning to become very stressful. We called our PVP this week and moved our cruise to much later in the year without penalties.
We changed our rescheduled cruise to an 8 day instead of 7, so our cruise price increased a little bit, but that’s the only thing that changed.
You should have no problem with whatever you decide. I feel Carnival is doing their best to accommodate their customers during these trying times.
I had a cruise booked nearly two years ago for January 2021. Cancelled by Covid and moved to January 2022. I emailed my TA on Thursday to cancel for medical reasons, not Covid related - sister needs open heart surgery, double bypass. TA sounded like she could hold onto the OBC and perks but still request a refund. Other than the health issues, my only worry was finding a place for a Covid test. We were going to drive to the port. EM

I think casino offers are treated differently. When the agent answered the phone I told her about my concerns with the new protocols and when she saw it was a casino booking she said I'd have to go through the casino department for any changes to the booking. I was transferred to them and while the agent seemed sympathetic, I couldn't get anything but the move option.
OP - Unless Carnival ceases cruise operations entirely they're not going to send you an email asking: " Hey, would you like to cancel your cruise?" You'll have to contact Carnival. Good luck to you.

I would go ahead and put y'all's concerns on your TA's radar so they can start making a call to Carnival to find options for you. The TA wait time has been WAY shorter than the Covid or Consumer line and they're generally able to get a better resolution for you (similar to what a PVP can get) based on partnerships/consortiums/etc. Their escalation process to get certain things approved (PIF extension, FCC/refunds) is a lot simpler than the direct consumer process.
Obviously kicking the can down the road for a cruise maybe in the Spring/Summer is better for everyone involved than a complete cancelation and refund.

not true fortunately for you. we had a cruise scheduled for tomorrow 1/2. i called yesterday afternoon to cancel our cruise due to the recent cdc announcement and other reasons. we received a full 100% refund no questions asked.

This is where the confusion comes into play. Cruises prior to and including Jan. 14th departure can request a refund. For cruises departing on Jan. 15th or after, it appears that moving your cruise is the only option. Carnival may include more cruise refunds for later departures. No one knows yet.

No, that January 14th letter was just an extra thing for those cruises which allowed those cruisers to have the option of a refund, not just a FCC. After that, Carnival's normal Covid cancelation policy, which was posted and linked above by Bevv in post number 4, applies. According to that policy:
If, following a declaration of a Public Health Emergency, you cancel a booking for a cruise scheduled during the declared emergency... you are entitled to a FCC for the amount paid to Carnival.
There is currently a Public Health Emergency declared by the CDC. They declared it in January 2020 and has been extended every 90 days (when they would have expired if no action was taken) ever since. The last extension was October 18, 2021, so it will need to be extended again in mid-January. But since there are currently record number of cases the chance of such an extension is virtually 100%. Here is a link to the current extension:
https://www.phe.gov/emergency/news/healthactions/phe/Pages/COVDI-15Oct21.aspx
The only reason you wouldn't be able to cancel is if Carnival isn't following their own rules.
I have rescheduled twice with no penalties and kept my OBC. I booked through a Carnival representative.

I have posted on several threads recently about casino rates only allowing a move instead of a refund or FCC. I pulled out all of my tricks to try to get a refund or FCC for my Jan. 15th casino cruise, but all I could get was the move option. I was trying to see if others were in my same situation. Not a lot of responses yet, but unfortunately it is too late for me. I could not wait it out because of travel planning and took what I could get. I would say that I was mad at Carnival, but it appears that all of the other cruise lines are playing hardball. I would love to hear from others that had different outcomes.

For an incredible vacation or an unforgettable wedding, many people book spots with the Carnival Cruise Line. The company annually operates over 1500 voyages and has an impressive fleet of 22 ships !
But between the time you booked your cruise and actually boarding the trip, a lot can happen – you may need to change or cancel the carnival cruise for whatever reason.
And while it seems like a daunting task, the Carnival Cruise Line is more than accommodating when it comes to last-minute changes and cancellations. To help you out, we also gathered what you need to know about either process.
Changes to a carnival cruise can involve changes to the guest list or your stateroom, for instance.
A name change on the Carnival Cruise website is defined as follows: The cancellation of one guest and adding a new guest to a booking.
The original guest must remain on the booking; otherwise, it’s considered a full stateroom cancellation, and cancellation penalties apply.
Based on certain circumstances, the company may impose some restrictions on name changes:
On the day of the cruise, you can’t upgrade or change your stateroom as the ship sails only at capacity. You can always upgrade your room prior to the cruise, but that will depend on what rooms they still have available for booking.
So, we recommend that you book your stateroom(s) as early as possible. This way you can pick from a plethora of options and not have to worry about making any changes later.
READ: Why Stateroom Location Matters?
As with changes regarding your stateroom, rescheduling is only allowed prior to the cruise sailing—or before the final payment is due. Additionally, changes to the ship sailing date are subject to a fee per change, per person.
To know how big the fee is and if it applies to you or not, contact the Carnival Cruise support team .
If you cancel your booking before the final payment, there’s no penalty unless you’ve booked a promotion with a non-refundable deposit/fare. Note also that the final payment date differs from one cruise to another – so be sure to check on them beforehand.
Keep in mind the following too:
And here’s a little tip: If you need to know further details about cancelling your carnival cruise, go to the ‘My Cruise Details’ section of your Carnival Cruise profile and find the question regarding cancellation penalties.
For sailings cancelled by Carnival Cruise Line (for technical or mechanical reasons), the ship operator will always offer you a full refund for your troubles. They’ll also ask if you’d like an alternative instead onboard another cruise.
Carnival Cruise might present you the option to accept future cruise credit—based on the duration of the cruise you booked. There could be added onboard credit as well.
Finally, if the cancellation results in an overnight stay, the cruise operator should help you (and your guests, if applicable) to a free-of-charge accommodation onboard or onshore.

Have you booked a Carnival Cruise but now need to change your travel plans? You may be wondering if you can reschedule without incurring any penalties.
The good news is that Carnival Cruise Line does offer some flexibility when it comes to rescheduling, but there are certain conditions that must be met. In this article, we will explore the steps you need to take to reschedule your Carnival Cruise without penalty.
Before we dive into the specifics of rescheduling your Carnival Cruise, it’s important to first understand the company’s cancellation policy. Carnival allows passengers to cancel their cruise up to two days before departure for most trips and receive a future cruise credit for the full amount paid. However, if you cancel within two days of departure, you will not receive any compensation.
The next step is to check your booking conditions. If you booked a “Saver” fare, which is generally the cheapest option, you will not be able to make any changes or cancellations without incurring fees. On the other hand, if you booked a “Standard” or “Flexible” fare, you may be able to make changes without penalty.
To reschedule your cruise without penalty, call Carnival’s customer service department as soon as possible. Explain your situation and ask if they can waive any fees for changing your travel dates. If you have a valid reason for needing to reschedule, such as a medical emergency or work conflict, they may be willing to work with you.
If you are concerned about having to cancel or reschedule your trip due to unforeseen circumstances, it may be worth investing in travel insurance. Many policies cover cancellations or changes due to illness or injury, severe weather conditions, or other unexpected events. Keep in mind that travel insurance must be purchased before the cancellation policy deadline in order to be valid.

Carnival Cruise Line is known for offering a wide range of exciting shore excursions to enhance your cruise experience. Understanding the cancellation process is essential to avoid any confusion or financial implications. By knowing the necessary steps and deadlines, you can ensure that you follow the proper procedure and receive any applicable refunds. Carnival Cruise Line has specific guidelines in place to address excursion cancellations, and being aware of these policies will make the process much smoother for you.
In the following sections, we will dive deeper into the reasons for cancelling a Carnival Cruise excursion, the process involved in cancelling one, the refund policies you should be aware of, and some helpful tips and considerations to keep in mind when making the decision to cancel. By the end of this article, you will have a clear understanding of how to cancel your Carnival Cruise excursion and how to proceed with any necessary changes to your plans.
There are several reasons why you might need to cancel your Carnival Cruise excursion. Life can often throw unexpected curveballs, and these can impact your travel plans. Here are a few common reasons why people choose to cancel their excursions:
Regardless of the reason, it’s important to remember that flexibility is key. While it may be disappointing to cancel a planned excursion, focusing on the safety, enjoyment, and overall experience of your trip is crucial. Understanding the reasons for cancelling will help you navigate the process with confidence and ensure a smooth transition to new plans or alternative activities.
If you find yourself in a situation where you need to cancel your Carnival Cruise excursion, it’s essential to follow the proper procedure to ensure a smooth cancellation process. Here are the steps to cancel your excursion:
It’s important to note that cancellation policies and procedures may vary depending on the specific excursion you have booked. Some excursions may have stricter refund policies, while others may offer more flexibility. Therefore, it’s crucial to read the fine print and understand the cancellation terms specific to your chosen excursion.
It’s also worth mentioning that cancellation requests made within a certain timeframe may incur penalties or fees. These fees can vary depending on the excursion and the time of cancellation. Therefore, it’s advisable to cancel your excursion as soon as you become aware of the need to do so, in order to minimize any potential financial implications.
By following these steps and being aware of the cancellation policies and deadlines, you can navigate the cancelling process smoothly and with minimal hassle. Keep in mind that reaching out to Carnival Cruise Line or your travel agent directly is usually the most effective way to cancel your excursion and address any further queries or concerns.
Understanding the refund policies for Carnival Cruise excursion cancellations is crucial to managing your expectations and potential financial implications. Here are some key points to keep in mind regarding refunds:
Full Refunds: If you cancel your Carnival Cruise excursion within the designated cancellation period and meet the eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to a full refund. The specific cancellation period and eligibility requirements can vary depending on the excursion and the cruise line’s policies.
Partial Refunds: In some cases, cancelling your excursion within a specific timeframe may result in a partial refund. This means that a portion of the excursion cost will be refunded to you, while certain fees or penalties may be retained.
No Refund: If you cancel your excursion outside of the designated cancellation period or fail to meet the eligibility criteria, you may not be eligible for any refund. It’s important to carefully review the terms and conditions of your excursion booking to determine whether a refund is possible.
Refund Processing Time: The time it takes for you to receive your refund may vary. Carnival Cruise Line typically processes refunds within a certain timeframe, but it’s important to be patient and allow for processing time. Keep in mind that factors such as the method of payment and the refund volume may also impact the processing time.
Exceptions and Special Circumstances: Carnival Cruise Line understands that unexpected situations can arise, and they may offer exceptions or flexibility in certain cases. These exceptions may be made for extenuating circumstances or situations beyond your control. It’s always worth reaching out to Carnival Cruise Line’s customer service or your travel agent to explain your situation and inquire about any potential accommodation or consideration.
It’s essential to carefully read the refund policy specific to the excursion you have booked. This will provide you with detailed information about the cancellation and refund process, including the cancellation period, refund eligibility, and any applicable fees or penalties. By being aware of these policies, you can manage your expectations and make informed decisions regarding your Carnival Cruise excursion cancellation.
Cancelling a Carnival Cruise excursion can be a challenging decision, but with careful planning and consideration, you can navigate the process smoothly. Here are some tips and considerations to keep in mind:
By considering these tips and recommendations, you can navigate the process of cancelling your Carnival Cruise excursion with ease and minimize any potential complications. Remember, your cruise vacation is about creating lasting memories, and sometimes adjusting your plans can lead to unexpected and exciting adventures.
Cancelling your Carnival Cruise excursion may not be what you initially envisioned when planning your trip, but sometimes unforeseen circumstances or changes in plans necessitate such a decision.
