Cool Cruiser

I was just reading the requirements for the Aquaduck. I noticed they had info on a height requirement. Just wondering about a weight limit? Hubby is worried that he's going to get stuck while riding it. I assume he's going to be fine but he's a little worried.

There is no weight limit posted. I am a bigger guy and I had no problems with it in 4 rides. He would not get stuck b/c he is too big to fit in the tube he would get stuck b/c there isn't enough water in the tube to move him. This was a concern of mine and in fact on my first ride the woman said if I got stuck not to get out and that they would assist me whatever that entails. Again, I had no trouble. If anything from my observation the bigger the rider the faster they went particularly around the first series of turns. I was flying through those. If he is 400 or above I could see the potential for trouble but I saw plenty of people riding TOGETHER with a combined weight that looked to be easily 400 pounds that had no problems. If he is worried he could try riding at off peak times esp. After the first dinner seating was underway. There was virtually no wait time. It's open till 10 most nights. Hope this helps.

I agree with Okie. We have rode the AquaDuck 6 times in both ships

And each time saw plenty of

Weight on it and never a problem.

Thanks!!! I'll show him the video. He's not that big. He was all worried about the parts of the slide that shoot up uphill. He didn't want to get stuck and they'd have to rescue him. LOL

The parts of the slide that go uphill are driving by motor, so you are propelled up . I am about 270 and had no problem at all with lots of room. Those tubes are very large (and so are the rafts), so there was no concern about getting 'stuck'.

Enjoy your cruise!

DH is 300+ and he had no problem...

AquaDuck sign on Disney Dream

INTRODUCTION

The AquaDuck is a 765′ water roller coaster slide. Guests ride either single or double in a raft on a stream of water through a mostly clear tube. From the start on deck 16 the course takes a quick loop over the side of the ship, then down the port side, around the forward funnel, back down the starboard side and around the aft funnel before ending on deck 12.

In this clip from a media briefing, Imagineers Joe Lanzisero and Bruce Vaughn talk about the AquaDuck – where the idea came from, and some of the challenges in constructing it.

Here, Peter Ricci , Show Producer and Production Manager for the AquaDuck, answers a few questions.

The entrance to the AquaDuck is on deck 12 midship. From the Mickey Pool area on deck 11 there is a set of stairs up to the AquaDuck entrance. From the entrance, riders climb the steps to the loading area on deck 16. Guests ride in an inflatable raft with two seating compartments. If there are two riders the larger rider sits in the back and the smaller in front. A single rider sits in the back. There are handles on both sides of the raft to hold onto.

The rafts are carried to the loading area on a conveyor belt. The attending cast member will pull off the next raft and place it on the loading belt and give a few instructions as the guests seat themselves. Once the cast member gets the “OK” light on the control panel they push a button and the belt moves forward, loading the raft into the water tube.

The raft immediately goes into the loop, at which point the water tube is hanging 12 feet over the side of the ship and about 150 feet over the ocean below.

AquaDuck loop on Disney Dream

It quickly goes down and into the first dip, where water jets suddenly propel the raft upward, complete with a gush of water dumped down the rider’s back.

AquaDuck port side on Disney Dream

The raft travels in the clear part of the tube down the port side straightaway to the second dip where there’s another gush of water down the back as the raft goes into the enclosed section around the forward funnel. The tube is open at the top for part of this stretch.

AquaDuck port side on Disney Dream

The raft slows down as it travels in the clear tube on the starboard side straightaway, then enters the enclosed tube to go around the aft funnel and down to the unloading area. A cast member will hold onto the raft as the guests step out of the raft and exit down the steps back to deck 12. The cast member takes care of returning the raft back to the loading area.

AllEars Rides the AquaDuck:

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

AquaDuck at night on Disney Dream

Operating hours for the AquaDuck are published in the daily Navigator. The AquaDuck is subject to closure due to wind and other adverse conditions, but barring those it is generally open during the day, even when the ship is in port. It operates into the evening hours, and is open until midnight on some evenings. The AquaDuck is open on embarkation day while the ship is docked at Port Canaveral – it closes for the Lifeboat Drill but reopens afterwards.

There is a minimum height requirement of 42″ to ride and single riders must be at least 54″ to ride. Children, even if accompanied by an adult, must meet the minimum height requirement. There is a height indicator at the bottom of the stairs and also at the loading area. Children under the age of 7 may ride with someone 14 or older as long as the child is at least 42″ tall.

The rafts are sent off a minimum of 30 seconds apart – no more than two per minute. The ride takes about 45 seconds from entering the water tube to arriving in the unloading area.

The AquaDuck is not handicap accessible – riders must be ambulatory and able to climb the stairs and get into and out of the raft.

Loose items are not permitted , and cast members caution against riding while wearing sunglasses, visors, hats, flip-flops or other items that can come off during the ride. There are lockers on deck 12, just around the corner from the unload area, where these items can be stored temporarily.

Those who are claustrophobic should know that for almost the entire ride the raft is in a totally enclosed tube, though about 2/3 of it is clear tube. When going around the funnels the tube is non-transparent, though part of it is open on the top so it is not completely dark. The tube is about four feet in diameter.

The raft is very stable and does not feel like it is going to overturn, even though centrifugal force has it climbing up the sides on the turns.

Riders should wear a swimsuit but probably won’t get too wet – generally dripping but not drenched. Those who have ridden have reported that they get a lot wetter on rides like Kali Rapids than on the AquaDuck.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • AquaDuck is the first and only water coaster onboard a cruise ship.
  • The length of the entire attraction is about 765 feet.
  • The length of the river rapids is about 335 feet.
  • The overall height of the ride is roughly 46 feet – equivalent to four and a half stories.
  • Approximately 10,000 gallons of water per minute propel guests through the attraction.
  • The loop that extends over the edge of the ship is about 150 feet above the ocean’s surface.
  • High-powered water jets accelerate guests upward and forward at about 20 feet per second.
  • There are three portholes in the Edge tween club that provide silhouetted views of AquaDuck riders as they pass through the funnel.

The Importance of Size in Cruise Ships

When it comes to cruise ships, size truly matters. The average ship weighs over 100,000 tons, and the importance of size in cruise ships cannot be overstated. It directly impacts the overall passenger experience. Here are four reasons why size is crucial:

More onboard amenities: Larger cruise ships have the space to incorporate a wide range of amenities. They can have multiple restaurants, pools, theaters, and even water parks. This allows passengers to have a variety of entertainment options to choose from.

Increased passenger capacity: Bigger ships can accommodate more passengers. This means more opportunities for socializing and making new friends onboard. With a larger passenger capacity, there is also a greater chance of finding like-minded individuals to share the cruising experience with.

Enhanced stability: Size plays a role in the stability of a cruise ship. Larger ships tend to have better stability in rough seas. This results in a smoother and more comfortable sailing experience for passengers.

Greater choice in staterooms: With more space available, larger cruise ships offer a wider variety of stateroom options. Passengers can choose from interior cabins, ocean view rooms, balconies, and luxurious suites. This allows them to find the perfect accommodation to suit their preferences and budget.

Size is just one aspect of the evolution of celebrity cruise ships.

How about Baloo-sized?

PopFla

After Googling around, I've found that apparently there is no weight limit; one website says that the only limiting factor is the 52 inch diameter of the tube.

Mrs. Chernabog

So, it will accommodate anyone who has a waist/hips of 163.28 inches or less?
Nah... gotta figure in the the size of the raft, so perhaps a 140" waist might be a better guideline.

Good point.

Don't worry about your size. Disney can just add more water behind you, and force you out! Or just slick yourself up with suntan oil, slip and slide, enjoy! Metrowon

AquaDuck: Disney Cruise Line’s Water Coaster

When the Disney Cruise Line announced the Disney Dream, they had some extra room to fill. As construction began, we started hearing rumors of something really big being added to the upper decks of the ship. The really big thing turned out to be a unique water coaster: The AquaDuck.

About the AquaDuck

You might be wondering about the duck in the AquaDuck. That would be the biggest name in Ducks, Uncle Donald himself. Yes, Donald Duck is the patron saint of watercoasters. He’s even plastered just below the entrance. Literally.

Just like a roller coaster, this high-speed ride has twists and turns, hills and thrills. The ride is 765 feet long and has a 4-deck drop. You are pushed by water jets through a translucent acrylic tube all around the ship. From the forward funnels almost the whole length of the ship.

When you reach the entrance, you will be issued a 2-person ride tube. (Guests over 54 inches tall can ride by themselves.) Hop in the tube and off you go. The ride starts off quickly with a turn over the sea which will take your breath away. As the ride progresses there are ups and downs. Yes, you actually are propelled uphill by the water jets. The ride ends in a lazy river.

You can’t miss the AquaDuck. It is every where. You’ll see it miles away from the ship. The entrance to the AquaDuck is located on Deck 12 of both the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy cruise ships. Like most water park rides, you will have to climb some stairs to reach the starting point.

The AquaDuck offers the best views of the pools, the upper decks, and even the ocean below. Now only are there beautiful views of the ship, but the tube itself makes for beautiful pictures.

Almost every picture you see from the deck the Disney Dream or the Disney Fantasy, you will see the AquaDuck. It even hangs out over the edge of the ship – 14 feet over the edge of the ship, to be exact.

Height and Age Requirements for the AquaDuck

Guests must be 42 inches to ride. (Disney is strict on height requirements.) Single riders must be 54 inches tall. Children under 7 must ride with someone 14 years or older.

The AquaLab is an 1,800 square foot wet play area for the younger ones. It’s also located on Deck 12. Join Huey, Dewey and Louie in the interactive play area. The interactive games include:

  • Moving wheels that control the speed and temperature of the AquaDuck
  • Water fun with pop jets and geysers
  • Controlling the water that runs into Uncle Donald’s Boat

I was reading that riders have to be at least 42 inches tall. How strictly is that enforced? I have a just turned 4 year old little girl who is 38 inches tall and 29lbs. Hoping by our cruise in September she is at least 40inches tall and 30lbs.

If I was trying to bring a baby on the aquaduck then I would hope they would stop me. It's tough having a child that will be the only one her age not able to ride because she has medical growth issues. I'm not a big rule breaker or bender. I just thought it might be more of a guideline vs super strictly enforced rule.

It is strictly enforced. Initially, the minimum height was actually 48". It was adjusted shortly after the Dream's MV.

I would say very strict. Checked almost (less than a week from her birthday) 5 year old each day she rode then gave her a band. I thought it was interesting, they also asked her age. She is tall for her age, and met the requirement, but not by much. As a new 4 year old last year she wasn't tall enough. Once at a resort one person let her go down a slide (simple water slide, nothing elaborate) and the next said she wasn't tall enough. Of course she was 3 and didn't understand. It would have been easier if she couldn't have gone in the first place. If someone did let her on, I would be worried about this happening when your daughter wanted to ride after shifts changed.

See the line where the sky meets the sea?

Just got off the Dream and it is definitely strictly enforced. We had my son measures the first day while we were just checking the boat out so he had his shoes on and they made him take them off. He made it, but I thought it was odd that they made him take his shoes off since they don't for WDW parks.

Earning my ears.

We went in October and my son was unable to ride. He was just barely under 42". The CM did try hard to make him tall enough. They had him stand up straight and spent several minutes measuring him. They did make him remove his water shoes and then slid a paper under the measuring stick to show how little he missed it. We felt they were very fair about it. My son was okay with it though - he spent at least an hour going down the Mickey slide and he loved Pelican Plunge at Castaway Cay!

I wonder why it's so unsafe for them to ride with an adult. My 3 year old can swim laps in a pool so I doubt it's a swimming issue. She's the youngest of 5 kids and we have a pool so she learned at a very young age (with swimming lessons also) and we live in Louisiana so we swim most of the year. Just seems crazy to base it on height and not how experienced they are with swimming and water. My kids are always in the water. Either pools, gulf, lakes ect.... I just don't see the danger if the child can swim.

A quick question for anyone that may have been in a similar situation. We will be on our first cruise this December on the Dream and my 2 boys cannot wait to ride the AquaDuck. The picture of the safety board posted earlier in the thread got me thinking about the following; both my boys will meet the minimum height requirement to ride as they are both currently about 50-52 inches, the youngest will be 7 at the time of the cruise and my oldest will be 9 so no need for being accompanied by someone 14 years or older, but here is where I am a little confused, would they both be able to ride together in the same raft without an adult. If I'm interpreting the sign correctly, they will in fact be able to ride in the same raft since the 54" requirement is simply to ride in the raft alone? Correct? As long as they ride together the 54" requirement would not apply and only the minimum of 42" and being at least 7 years old is in play. They are both currently just above 60 lbs each so their total weight would be above 120 so I don't think they'll be too light. (I know weight's not a limitation but just wanted to offer that info as well.) I don't mind riding it and certainly will but I have a feeling my interest in standing in line over and over again will begin to diminish and if I can simply stand and observe them riding with each other that would be wonderful. Thanks for your input.

russjen1218

You have to consider the size of the opening of the inner tube. I don't think it has anything to do with swimming, but rather with being tall enough to physically be able to ride in the tube. That's just my opinion of course, but judging from experience with my little ones with the Disney water parks and from our 2 Disney cruises, little bodies can't always ride in adult sized inner tubes with a large round hole in the middle.

Tiffylv said: Yes it's very strict. Last November my 7 year old was just over 51" and was determined to ride alone. He wasn't allowed and was devastated he had to ride with dear old mom. Click to expand...

PrincessShmoo said: I don't think it has to do with swimming abilities. You don't swim on AquaDuck. You sit in an inflated raft and ride the water current through a tube. I would think it has more to do with actual size , and weight, being able to remain in the raft. There are no belts to hold people in, and an adult can't just hold onto the child, as they are supposed to be holding onto the handles on the sides of the raft. There could be serious injury if a child (or person who was too small) were to fly out of the raft and tumble around in the tube. Click to expand...

Just to make sure I'm clear...the only age requirement is to ride alone (along with the higher height), correct? Just making sure as DD is 43 inches without shoes and is dying to ride AquaDuck, but she's only 4 years old. Am I correct that, as long as she rides with an adult, she can ride?

Disney Cruise AquaDunk – What You Must Know

Sharing is caring!

What is the Disney Cruise Aquadunk? Only found on the Disney Magic Cruise Ships this innovative water feature is a whole lot of fun – if you dare!

What is the Disney Cruise AquaDunk?

disney cruise aquadunk

The Disney AquaDunk is the only one of its kind. The Disney Magic did not have the AquaDunk when she was built. It was added during one of her times in dry dock.

It is located on Deck 13 Forward, just in front of the smokestack. There you will see the steps up to the entrance to the ride. Just follow Dewey Ducks footsteps up the 63 stairs.

disney magic cruise aquadunk

The AquaDunk is a drop water slide. First you enter the clear loading capsule. You stand on the platform with your arms crossed over your chest. A Cast Member is on the platform to help you.

The anticipation is quite intense – particularly the first time you do this. At this point you are nearly 37 feet above the deck! Dewey Duck will count you down to prepare you for the plunge!

The floor then disappears from under your feet – and you drop into the slide! You plummet 212 feet through a see through tube.

The slide goes over the edge of the ship on a 20 foot curvature. You aren’t really aware of where you are in the tube. It’s just a lot of fun and then all too soon you are at the end.

You have to be at least 48″ tall to ride the Disney Cruise AquaDunk.

This is going to mean that the younger kids can’t ride this- so just prepare them for this so they aren’t disappointed when they get on board and find out it isn’t an option. The Cast Members are, quite rightly, not going to make exceptions no matter how much you plead with them.

Here is a great video which shows you exactly how it is to ride the AquaDunk

As you can see from the video and pictures of the AquaDunk, mosts of the line is outside with no shade. You can be waiting in line for over 90 minutes if the queue starts at the bottom of the stairs. Remember to always wear a good sunscreen .

The AquaDunk Back Story

Most Disney rides have a back story and the Disney Magic AquaDunk is no exception.

This one centers around Donald Duck and his mischievous nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. As soon as Donald’s nephews heard that the Disney Magic was going to get a new water feature, they insisted that they been involoved in the design.

Now all design processes go through many stages, with initial ideas often ending up on the cutting room floor.

disney cruise aquadunk slide

One idea didn’t get past the prototype phase as it had too much bounce. Another prototype was too long. Finally they hit on the perfect design for the AquaDunk.

Huey, Dewey and Louie wanted the design process to be remembered in pictures. Therefore they hit upon the idea of having the blueprints painted onto the side of the water slide. You can view these as you are waiting for the ride.

Do All Disney Cruise Ships Have Water Slides?

do all the disney cruise ships have water slides

Yes, all of the Disney Ships have a water slide.

In addition to the Disney Cruise AquaDunk the Magic has the Twist ‘n’ Spout water slide. Located on Deck 9, in the Aqua Lab area of the ship, this is a double looping water slide.

The Twist ‘n’ Spout is 250 feet long and twists in one direction and then another. Guest must be at least 38″ tall to ride.

You can also find the Twist ‘n’ Spout water slide can also be found on the Disney Wonder

The Twist ‘n Spout on the Classic Disney ships replaced the original Mickey Slide.

Guests on the Disney Dream and Fantasy can enjoy the thrilling water coaster the AquaDuck .

Guests ride on rafts, which can hold up to two people at a time, around this 785 water coaster.

At one point the tube even extends over the side of the ship! The AquaDuck is a lot of fun It is highly likely that the new ship, the Disney Wish will have the AquaDuck too.

As well as the AquaDuck, the Disney Dream and Fantasy have the Mickey slide. This is located at the side of the Mickey Pool on Deck 11.

The Mickey Slide is intended for Guests ages 4 to 14 years. They must be between 38″ and 64″ tall to use the Mickey slide.

Castaway Cay Water Slides

Even Disney’s Private Island, Castaway Cay has a water slide. Pelican Plunge is located on the family beach at Castaway Cay. There are two water slides to choose from. One is covered and the other is open.

You do have to swim out to get to Pelican Plunge so you have to be a reasonably good swimmer to get out there.

Disney Wish AquaMouse POV Ride Cam

Take a virtual ride with me on the AquaMouse, the thrilling high-speed, 760-foot splashtacular water coaster aboard the Disney Wish. The world of Mickey Mouse animated shorts play a key role in setting the stage for the AquaMouse ride experience which Disney is calling their first attraction at sea.

According to Disney, Mickey and Minnie are starting their very own seaside excursion company, Port Misadventures, on board the Disney Wish, and adventuresome cruisers can join them on an undersea excursion to Mermaid Lagoon that inevitably (and hilariously) goes awry.

Port Misadventures…. Sounds familiar… Not only does it sound familiar, the AquaMouse features a similar lift hill to that of Miss Adventure Falls at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon waterpark .

The posted safety information, states the minimum height required to ride the AquaMouse is 42″. Persons under 7 years of age must be accompanied by someone 14 years of age or older. Guests 14 and older who wish to ride alone, must be at least 48″ tall.

Disney Wish AquaMouse Entrance Safety Height Requirement Sign

The entrance and exit are located in the same area of the ship, and unlike the AquaDuck on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, the queue is more reminiscent of a theme park line than the line up the stairs into the funnel for the AquaDuck.

Disney Wish AquaMouse Entrance

The AquaMouse journey begins when you board a two-seat ride float and ascend into a magical tunnel teleporting you into the cartoon world of two new animated short playing out through oversized virtual portholes.

DCL Wish AquaMouse Poster Scuba Scramble

  • Scuba Scramble : riders will encounter curious sea creatures, familiar Disney friends and more than 60 water effects that bring the subaquatic hijinks to life synched to an original musical score by Emmy-nominated composer Christopher Willis.
  • Swiss Meltdown : Mickey and Minnie invite riders on a mountain sledding excursion inspired by one of the Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” shorts, “Yodelberg.” When the sun comes out and the snow begins to melt, they’ll be off on a frantic dash to the mountaintop while trying to avoid obstacles like avalanches, leaky rock walls and waterfalls.

At the height of the show, guests blast out of the tunnel and embark on a wild water ride around the upper decks. Join me in an on ride POV from my first ride on the AquaMouse.

Since the AquaMouse features multiple Mickey Mouse animated shorts, try and ride the water-coaster on different days of your cruise.

Scott, That was so cool!! Thanks! My back is not the best. I avoid the Aquadunk, and am OK with the Aqua Duck. Did you find this to be similar to the Aqua Duck? I can’t deal with too much back-jerking. Thanks again!!! This was so fun to see!

' src=

Not bad at all. It looks like a lot of fun. My wife and I enjoy riding together on the Aquaduck so it looks like we can do the same on this. My only problem is getting out of the raft on the Aquaduck when it is over. The raft is some what slippery and unstable… I may only be 64 but there are times I should know better, still I cannot help but being that 5 year old kid who went to Disneyland the first time.

' src=

The raft is completely out of the water when you exit on the AquaMouse eliminating the unstable exit experienced on the AquaDuck.

' src=

I was curious if the AquaMouse is open on the Castaway Cay port day, I was trying to confirm that was Castaway Cay when you went over the ocean and it looks like it was but your confirmation would be great! thanks

Yes, the AquaMouse is open on port days such as Castaway Cay.

' src=

Doing a B2B is it open as soon as I board for our second sailing? Thanks so much!

AquaDuck Water Coaster on the Disney Dream

Handout/Handout/Getty Images

Water slides are a dime a dozen on cruise ships, but the AquaDuck is the only water coaster on a cruise ship with the kind of drops and g-forces you would experience on a roller coaster. It is located on the top decks of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy , which are two sister ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

Circle the Top Deck

The 765-foot-long AquaDuck is elevated high above Deck 11 on tall stilts. The water coaster circles the ship in a transparent acrylic tube, with water jets propelling riders through uphill sections. The majority of the ride takes place in a clear tube, but a section of the ride is enclosed as it travels through the ship's forward funnel.

Ride Solo or With a Friend

Riders sit on rubber rafts that hold up to two people. Most of the ride takes place in a transparent acrylic tube, so riders can see outside. Riders must adhere to these rules:

  • Kids must be at least 42 inches tall to ride the AquaDuck.
  • Kids who meet the height requirement but are not yet seven years old must ride with another rider who is at least 14 years old.
  • Kids must be at least 54 inches tall to ride alone.

Zoom Over the Ship's Edge

After leaving the loading area, the raft zooms 12 feet out over the edge of the ship and 150 feet above the water.

Take in the View

Because the AquaDuck's tube is clear, riders can see the ship's top deck and out over the ocean.

Sit Back and Enjoy the Ride

The AquaDuck's gentle slope lets riders enjoy a leisurely trip around the ship. After boarding, the ride takes just over a minute to complete.

Check out the Fun Below

While on the AquaDuck, riders can survey the top deck of the Disney Dream , with its two family pools, yellow slide at the Mickey Pool, shaded water splash area for little ones, and Disney movies on the big screen.

Wave at Family and Friends

 More fun facts:

  • The AquaDuck uses about 10,000 gallons of water per minute.
  • In the Edge, the tweens' lounge, several windows let kids catch a glimpse of AquaDuck riders as they zoom by.
  • At night, the AquaDuck's lights are turned on for a colorful and different ride experience.

Come in for a Gentle Splashdown

At the end of the ride, the AquaDuck emerges from the tube and splashes down gently into a landing pool. You'll be nearly dry when you emerge from the raft.
