Fort Collins Colorado Brewery Tours

Fort Collins  Colorado Brewery tours are perfectly nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with fresh snowmelt running off into the Cache la Poudre River making it an ideal place for brewing some of the nation’s best beer. Fort Collins is the largest producer of craft beer in Colorado (responsible for 70%, in fact), which is ironic for a town that was “dry” until 1969. Currently, the city is home to more than 20 craft breweries, the most microbreweries in the state, each with its own distinctive style, including one of the world’s largest operations, as well as a leader in eco-friendly and sustainable business practices. To get a taste of award-winning lagers, pilsners and ales year-round, take part of some brewery tours and a wild variety of taster trays, even spend a few days to taste them all!

A large percentage of Fort Collins breweries are located within  historic Downtown , including industry leaders  New Belgium Brewing  and gold medal winning  Odell Brewing Company , all within walking and bicycling distance, making visiting them easy to do in one trip. The beer lover can also take guided tours providing insider knowledge plus transportation between each brewery making for a perfect beer day. One of the best and most fun ways to gain this insider knowledge is signing up for brewery tours with Beer and Bike Tours . Fort Collins has experienced a boom in brewery growth in the past decade, bringing breweries to all areas of the city, including  South Fort Collins ,  Midtown  and the CSU campus.

Fort Collins produces beers of every type, including a local passion for IPAs, tasty stouts, collaboration ales between all breweries, and extremely drinkable wheat beers. These passions make Fort Collins a perfect beer lovers’ and homebrewers’ paradise. Brewing stores offer hard to find hops, malts, tools of the trade and experts to consult.

Bicycles have a close relationship to the beer in Fort Collins with New Belgium Brewing Company’s affinity for bicycles, including the annual  Tour de Fat  bike parade & festival, bike and beer tours, keg delivery by bicycle, bike paths linking breweries together, and a bike share  rental program through Spin.

If you want to see the inner workings of the brewing process you can sign up to take brewery tours at Odell Brewing Company and New Belgium Brewing Company. Or you can hop on a bike and ride from brewery to brewery with Beer and Bike Tours . Bottling and canning lines, sustainable practices, water and green energy initiatives and tasting insights are all part of what you learn on the tours.

Now set out on your taste bud adventure to some of these high quality Fort Collins breweries!

Enjoy many rotating selections and special firkin tapping every Thursday (133 Remington St.)

This brewery focuses primarily on Saisons, with fruity aromas, and often offers drier profiles which become wonderful summer beers made by the masters. Funkwerks has won many medals in the past 5 years, and in 2012 The Great American Beer Festival named them “Small Brewing Company of the Year”. Their “Deceit”, Belgian-Style Golden Strong beer was awarded a silver medal in 2014 at the World Beer Cup. Refreshing and award-winning, a must stop along your tour. (1900 East Lincoln Ave)

The Barrel House is known for blending beers with barrels used for wine, bourbon and other specialty barrel-aged beer in order to create intricate flavors derived from the attributes of those barrels. A go-to brewery for locals and visitors, this taproom has been expanded to keep up with demand. Live music, food trucks and a warm fire pit also make the Odell patio a regional destination. (800 East Lincoln Ave.)

(1831 E Mulberry St.)

Prost Brewing Company

Prost is one of the first companies/breweries in Fort Collins to have an alley entrance for patrons, making it quite unique. This alleyway taproom is a homecoming of sorts for the Denver-based craft brewery thanks in part to Prost Brewing having an ownership team composed of multiple CSU alumnus. The Gold-medal-winning brewery makes German-style lagers exclusively and serves them in a Bavarian-themed taproom. Prost will only be serving its own beers at the Fort Collins satellite location, and for the time being, every beer will be brewed at the Denver location and delivered to Fort Collins. Budweiser Brewery Experience - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (2024)

goColorado

Anheuser-Busch Brewery

Open in 1988, the Fort Collins Anheuser-Busch Brewery brews 33 different beer brands. In 2018 it became the second brewery with the capacity to support their emergency drinking water program. Their team periodically pauses brewing to produce and can emergency drinking water, in an effort to better support their neighbors coast to coast.

The Fort Collins Budweiser factory offers free guided tours. The beer at the end of the mile-and-a-half walk is also free.

While waiting for the Anheuser-Busch Brewery tour to begin, we help ourselves to complimentary soda and pretzels in the bar. The adjacent gift shop sells all the Budweiser paraphernalia one could want, including T-shirts that say “don’t worry, be hoppy.”

Our tour guide, Cory, gathers the group together and gets us under way. Our first stop: the Clydesdale Hamlet, home of the famous Budweiser horses. Cory explains the Fort Collins Bud brewery is the training facility that teaches these immense creatures to be commercial stars, parade ponies and everything else the job demands.

He then leads us through the Willy Wonka-style gates and up to the brewery doors. Inside, we take an elevator to the “hot side” where wort – a young, unfermented beer mixture – is made. Through the hall windows we see the brewing vats – gigantic silver cones that make this facility tied for the fifth-largest automated brewery in the Budweiser system.

From here the wort is sent to the “cold side,” where other ingredients are added. We follow suit, passing in hallways filled with black-and-white photos of the company’s founding workers and product.

In the second elevator, we can smell the bitter fragrance of hops from the room above. As we enter, we stare at the enormous holding vats. “We still make beer like they did back then,” Cory says, “…but we’ve made it more efficient. Guys like Busch, Pabst and Coors are responsible for the mechanization.”

After a few educational stops, we’re led to the beer packing and shipping area. As we watch the massive amounts of machinery, Cory explains the entire process, from the brew being poured, to the cans being pasteurized.

A display of the beer line is next.

“I’ve tried every beer in this case – for training purposes, of course,” Cory says jokingly, “so I can help you find a beer you’ll like.”

Walking through the advertisement hall, with familiar slogans like “This Bud’s for you” and “Nothing beats a Bud,” we pass into the lager cellar. The room, kept at a chilly 48 degrees, stores rows upon rows of giant vats with fermenting lager. The deep carbonated smell fills our nostrils, adding to the anticipation of the beer that awaits.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery

Once the tour is over, we’re back to the bar to treat our taste buds. Cory explains each 3-ounce taster of beer our bartender serves, from the intake to the aftertaste, and invites us to have an additional 10-ounce beer of our choice.

This tour, which lasts about 1 ½ hours, is free from start to finish, but an expanded Brewmaster Tour is offered for $25 per person. In addition to a hat, T-shirt, tasting glass and 10 percent discount at the gift shop, the paid tour offers a more in-depth look at what makes the Anheuser-Busch one of the most popular companies in the world.

Beermaster Tours must be scheduled in advance, and participants must wear closed-toe shoes and pants. $25 per person for those 21 and older, $10 for those 13 to 20, who are not allowed to taste the beer. October-May, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Thursday through Monday, June-September, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery is another stop to add to your Colorado breweries list !

2 star rating

One of Fort Collins's leading employers -- and its top tourist attraction -- this Anheuser-Busch brewery produces some six million barrels of beer each year, distributed to 10 Western states. Anheuser-Busch to keep Fort Collins biergarten and tour center closed

fort collins anheuser busch tour

Nearly two years after the COVID-19 pandemic first shuttered Fort Collins tasting rooms, Anheuser-Busch still has no plans to rejoin the local fray, the brewing giant confirmed to the Coloradoan on Wednesday.

Fort Collins' Anheuser-Busch tour center and biergarten, which shuttered to the public in March 2020 and never reopened, will remain closed for the foreseeable future, a spokesperson for the company said.

"Anheuser-Busch has been a dedicated member of the Fort Collins community for over 30 years, and during that time we have been pleased to offer Fort Collins residents and visitors the opportunity to visit our brewery (and) Biergarten," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "... We will still be deeply involved in the Fort Collins community through our ongoing brewery operations and continue to welcome guests to A-B’s Flagship Brewery in St. Louis."

Anheuser-Busch had been offering brewery tours at its Fort Collins facility since it opened in 1989, according to Coloradoan archives. At the end of 2014, the brewery renovated its tour center to include a biergarten and restaurant. The brewery used the spaces to host events like Brewery Lights, an end-of-year holiday light display, and entertain visitors during regular visits by the Budweiser Clydesdales.

Inside a fight to reroute FoCo's train: Fort Collins came thiiiiis close to getting rid of its Old Town trains in the 1980s

While the Clydesdales spend at least 10 months out of the year on the road, Fort Collins is still a home base for the horses' West Coast hitch, and its Clydesdales will continue to travel to Fort Collins, the Anheuser-Busch spokesperson said.

Like the tour center and biergarten, the brewery's Clydesdale stables will continue to be maintained as part of Anheuser-Busch's larger facility.

Brewery operations remain unchanged at the Fort Collins facility, with crews producing upward of 25 brands of Anheuser-Busch products, according to its website.

Meanwhile, at the mall: Foothills mall owner: Macy's will leave mall in March

The Anheuser-Busch Brewery and Tour Center in Fort Collins is welcoming the Budweiser Clydesdales back for a last-minute surprise visit by the horses. The team of 10 will be at the brewery starting Wednesday, staying from March 9 through 21.

“It’s a wonderful surprise,” said Tracy Stetzinger, assistant supervisor of experiential marketing at Anheuser-Busch. Staff knew that the horses were making a visit in May and in June for the Hammer ‘n’ Ale Fundraiser but this was last-minute stop.

The trip coincides with spring break for Fort Collins students. Attendees will be able to see the horses in the stables as well as out in the pasture. Two days have also been set a side to offer photo opportunities with the horses. From 1 to 3 p.m. March 13 and 20, guests can pose with the horses. There will be a professional photographer on hand. The viewings and photos are free.

“They were here for so long and now that they are not here, it makes it unique,” Stetzinger said of the event. The horses travel all over for parades and festivals.

“We get excited as anyone. We pull out all the stops,” she said. The team of horses is impressive to see up close. Families can enjoy a free tour of the brewery or grab a bite to eat the restaurant that opened last year.

“We have a fun family atmosphere out here. We promote responsible drinking so people can feel comfortable bringing their family out here,” Stetzinger said. She said the horses and the company have been part of Northern Colorado since 1988.

“We are proud to be here and proud to share our horses with everyone,” she said.

The Iconic Budweiser Clydesdales Embark on National Tour as Brand Releases Patriotic Packaging to Support Folds of Honor

The Iconic Budweiser Clydesdales Embark on National Tour as Brand Releases Patriotic Packaging to Support Folds of Honor

Budweiser is celebrating 14 years of partnership with Folds of Honor and building on its longstanding legacy of honoring those who serve with events in communities across the country

St. Louis, MO – May 13, 2024 – This summer, Anheuser-Busch and its wholesaler partners are once again joining forces with Folds of Honor – a nonprofit organization that provides life-changing educational scholarships to the families of fallen or disabled U.S. service members and first responders – to release limited-edition Budweiser patriotic packaging.

With a century-long commitment to supporting the military and honoring those who serve our country, Anheuser-Busch is proud to continue its work with Folds of Honor as the organization’s longest standing partner. Over the last 14 years, Anheuser-Busch, its industry leading brands, and wholesaler partners have donated $28 million, which has funded over 5,000 scholarships for Folds of Honor recipients.

"For over a decade, Anheuser-Busch, its brands and wholesaler network have been invaluable partners, significantly advancing Folds of Honor's mission of providing life-changing educational scholarships to military and first responders’ families,” said Folds of Honor Founder and CEO, Lt Col Dan Rooney. “Their steadfast support has been instrumental in driving tangible change, evident in a 63% surge in scholarship applications in 2023 alone. As we reflect on the past 14 years, we are deeply grateful for Anheuser-Busch's enduring partnership and the profound impact it has had. We’re thankful that Budweiser is once again taking its support on the road with a national Clydesdale tour to celebrate those who have served and their families and empower consumers to contribute to our cause as well."

In celebration of the work Folds of Honor has achieved to date and to mark its 14-year partnership with Anheuser-Busch, Budweiser and the iconic Clydesdales will be traveling to communities across the country, amplifying the mission of Folds of Honor. While the Clydesdales are in town, consumers 21+ will have multiple opportunities to support Folds of Honor by simply purchasing Budweiser patriotic packaging, cans and aluminum bottles from Memorial Day to Labor Day at their local bar, favorite retailer or concession stand*. Consumers can also join Folds of Honor and the Budweiser Clydesdales at military events, air shows, fleet weeks, and venues ranging from sporting events to state fairs starting on Memorial Day weekend. Consumers can view the hitch schedule and stay up to date with the world-renowned Budweiser Clydesdales by visiting www.warmspringsranch.com/hitch-schedule .

For over a decade, Anheuser-Busch has released annual patriotic-themed packaging to support Folds of Honor and this year, Budweiser unveiled new limited-edition cans, available in time for Memorial Day Weekend. The cans and aluminum bottles will feature patriotic branding and an interactive QR code so consumers can learn more about Folds of Honor.

*Donation defined as $0.25 per case of limited-edition Budweiser (12 oz. cans and 16 oz. aluminum bottles) sold from 5/13/24 through 9/1/24, up to $1,700,00.00. Case = 24 pack case equivalent

  ABOUT BUDWEISER

Budweiser, an American-style lager, was introduced in 1876 when company founder Adolphus Busch set out to create the United States' first truly national beer brand – brewed to be universally popular and transcend regional tastes. Each batch of Budweiser stays true to the same family recipe used by five generations of Busch family brewmasters. Budweiser is a medium-bodied, flavorful, crisp and pure beer with blended layers of premium American and European hop aromas, brewed for the perfect balance of flavor and refreshment. Budweiser is made using time-honored methods including "kraeusening" for natural carbonation and Beechwood aging, which results in unparalleled balance and character.

ABOUT FOLDS OF HONOR

It is rated a four-star charity by Charity Navigator and Platinum on Candid.
