It’s cause for “Celebration.”

The long-running R&B, funk and disco hitmakers Kool and the Gang are going on tour from July to October. Then, in 2023, Kool and the Gang will play five shows in Las Vegas as part of a mini-residency at the Westgate Casino and Resort.

In total, the “Jungle Boogie” group has 15 concerts lined up .

Sadly, the whole gang won’t be there though.

Founding member and Montclair, New Jersey native Dennis “Dee” Thomas passed away in Aug. 2021 at the age of 70.

Still, the group has soldiered on staging their tour and having just released their 25th studio album “Perfect Union.”

So, if you want to “Get Down On It” with the group that brought the world “Ladies Night,” here’s everything you need to know.

Kool & the Gang, masters in jazz, R&B, soul, funk, dance, disco and boogie. Active since 1964 their music remains timeless and loved by countless generations.

From 1964 the band performed at jazz events most notably those which took place in a small theater every Sunday, this was the start of the career for 13 year old Robert Bell, his brother and five of their friends.

Originally the ensemble were called the "Jazzics" but changed their name in 1969 in order to avoid confusion which was caused when they called themselves "Kool and the Flames" which was a name extremely similar to one in which James Brown was using at the time. This then caused the group to rename themselves to "Kool & the Gang". 1969 saw them signed to De-Lite Records under Gene Redd who owned the label.

In 1969 under De-Lite records the band released their self titled debut album "Kool & The Gang". It is considered to be a classic in funk music and has been sampled by over 10 artists since its release.

In 1975 the band released their very well received alum "Light Of Worlds" this received 3.5 stars from rolling stone and contained the very successful song "Higher Plane" this song was able to reach number 1 on the R&B charts.

Many Kool and the gang songs have gone on to feature on multiple platforms. Songs have been used in films such as "Baby Boy", multiple commercials such as a Nike shoe commercial starring LeBron James and even the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Kool and the Gang and are one the greatest disco bands ever. Their classic brand of jazz, soul, funk and disco never fails to get you dancing. Thankfully, they remain a highly active touring band. Needless to say, though, the band has had numerous line-up changes over their forty-odd year history.

You can imagine my excitement when I got the opportunity to see the legends perform at the Wildflower Festival in Texas this May. The set opened with a rendition of 1985 chart-topper, ‘Fresh.’ ‘We gonna get this party started!’ The front man yelled. ‘Let Me Hear You!’ he shouted to the crowd. We obeyed, yelling and whooping.

Kool and the Gang gave one incredible performance. Musical skill and funky dance moves abounded. They delivered the hits with finesse. It was a thrill to see them perform ‘Jungle Boogie and ‘Get Down on It.’ The evening ended with ‘Good Times.’ We all sang and danced along enthusiastically and the singers pleased the crowd be closing with the lyrics, ‘we hope you had a good time.’ Suddenly it was the end of the gig. The evening had whipped by in frenzy of jazz funk thrill. The only indicator that we’d been there for an hour and a half was the fatigue in our legs from all that dancing. Take any opportunity you get to see Kool and the Gang live!

Still absolute masters of the funk-soul-pop genre, Kool & The Gang haven't lost one ounce of their groove, despite having been a touring band since 1964. Incorporating jazz, brass band and funk influences, the New Jersey music veterans are responsible for some of THE quintessential funky disco classics of the past 30 years- songs such as 'Celebration', 'Ladies' Night', 'Get Down On It', and the belter of an opening title track used by Quentin Tarantino in the eponymous Pulp Fiction, 'Jungle Boogie'.

These massive, soulful dance grooves were all staples of the Gang's Glastonbury set a few years ago, which pulled an enormous crowd- and as soon as that deep slap bass, full horn section and funky drumbeat kicked in, everyone was gettin' down.

For me, the highlight of their live set was the thunderous, horn-blasting 'Jungle Boogie', which you can't help but shimmy to, as well as their classic disco hit, 'Fresh'. The sheer level of musicianship from the entire band (at least 10 members, led by vocalist James 'J.T.' Taylor, onstage at any one time), was very impressive, and the whole bunch of them seemed to be responding to the crowd and having one big party up there.

(Actually 7.15) Security was good. We sat in our seats until 9 when K a t G came on. The support band was dissapointing. We love Kool and the Gang but was dissapointed by the late start and the fact that they indulged themselves over playing the music that the fans and us went there to hear. We left early as the late start meant we could not stay for the whole concert due to the need to catch the last train home.

Kool and the Gang was great... they started out with the youthful songs...then when horn section, (they're famous for) got started..it was on...the whole crowd was up ...out of there seats...rockin' to the beat...awesome show..one of the older band members kept us totally entertained, dancing,flipping hilarious....

I enjoyed every moment. Great band, music... Even the newer members of the group are great... I'll stay fresh and get down on it for a ladies night celebration with Kool and the Gang anytime... Loved it... I wished they performed a little longer

Super funky and awesome show takes you right back to the 79's with all classic hits from Cherish to Ladies night and Get Down. Great vibe and energy from all the band members and a few new faces full of talent. A winner gig all round!

I didn't go. Tickets were too damn expensive. I wished that sometimes these venues you guys put out here are a bit affordable. They would have been an awesome group to enjoy because it would take me back to high school. But OFW!!!

Excellent. A lot of energy from the band. Great show. Thanks guys for amazing evening, I enjoyed a lot with my wife. Old memories from the 70s. Parking easy to access, venue is a great place for a concert, sound was really good.

Had a great time at this show. The music brought back lots of fun memories and the band showed high energy and great talent. I'll be happy to see/hear their show again, whenever they are in town.

Some of the most fun I've had in 2017. They played all the classic hits and even did a few covers. Everyone was into it. Don't miss these legends if you have the chance.

Kool & The Gang Announce Concert Tour Dates – Tickets Available!

Kool & The Gang have announced two upcoming tours, and tickets are still available.

The “Get Down On It” band is headed on tour with the 80s pop-rock duo Hall and Oates this August and September. The tour, which also features new wave rock band Squeeze and singer-songwriter KT Tunstall , kicks off August 5 in Mansfield, Mass., and is making stops throughout the northern United States.

Kool and The Gang have also scheduled six shows for 2022, with three nights in Honolulu, Hawaii on January 18-20; two shows in Las Vegas on February 4 and 5; and a show in Nashville on March 13.

Kool & The Gang is set to celebrate 60 years as R&B and funk veterans in 2024. However, ahead of that monumental feat, the group is releasing a new album and will be embarking on an international tour .

People Just Wanna Have Fun is slated for release on July 14, towards the end of their 17-city tour.

George “Funky” Brown, fellow founding member and producer of the LP, added insight on the process during the height of the pandemic . “It’s all done live. Nothing was flown in. We made sure we had the ultraviolet lights and the sprays and the masks. Nobody got sick. We kept the number of people in the studio way down,” stated the 74-year-old.

The album’s lead single, “Let’s Party,” debuted back in October, but an Afrobeats remix is premiering on April 21. Both Bell and Brown view this project—the group’s 34th album—as a “summation of their long career” as it will be some of the last work from the band’s members, Ronald “Khalis” Bell and Dennis “D.T.” Thomas, who passed in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Since their start in 1964, the group has garnered two GRAMMYs, seven American Music Awards, a BET Soul Train Lifetime Achievement Award , and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Plus, Kool’s bass guitar is featured in the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC and their 1980 hit, “Celebration” was inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2021 along with Janet Jackson’s Control , Labelle’s “ Lady Marmalade ,” and Nas’ Illmatic .

Kick off summer concert series, at pacific amphitheatre | oc fair, july 19, 2022 by jimmy alvarez, it was opening night at the oc fair, and it had been a beautiful day; a chamber of commerce day. but the evening turned hotter than the day as the family stone and kool & the gang brought the heat to the pacific amphitheatre., as the near capacity crowd rolled in, i noticed that at the top of the amphitheatre, where there is normally empty grass with occasional picnic sit down seating, there were sheep grazing along with their two herding dogs. what an appropriate setting for the opening day of the oc fair..

The Family Stone is definitely a throwback to the genesis of rock and soul. As they took the stage, I was amazed at the sight and sound the band; they moved in unison while sounding as tight as any band I have ever seen. Being a throwback to old school R&B, The Family Stone paid homage to their founder Sly Stone, and to the band’s original members.

They opened with “Hot Fun in the Summer Time,” and the crowd loved them. As promised, they delivered with their hits which included “I Want to Take You Higher,” “Dance to the Music,” and “Everyday People.” The crowd sang and danced to every word of each song.

As the jealous sun gave way to the moon and angry clouds, the house dj took over in between sets. with music blaring through the overhead speakers, he got the crowd pumped for kool & the gang with songs like “best of my love” (the emotions) and “september” (earth, wind & fire)..

The crowd was on their feet, singing and dancing along to the classic tunes. Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” pushed the crowd into an even more festive mood, but then the lights went down, and like the scene out of every larger-than-life concert, the roar of the crowd was almost deafening.

It was evident the near capacity crowd was eager to see these sonic heroes. with a blink of the eye, the band stormed the stage, vocalist extraordinaire lavell evans took command of the crowd immediately..

Led by Robert “Kool” Bell, the band formed in the ‘60s, but was formally introduced to us as Kool & The Gang in 1969. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and with that in mind, Kool & The Gang is one of the most sampled bands on the planet.

If you haven’t seen this band live before, they are very unique with an undeniable signature sound. They are another throwback, with choreographed moves like The Temptations, a showman-style quality of Shalamar, the majesty of world-class musicians like Earth, Wind & Fire, vocal harmonies like the Bee Gees, and a horn section just as tight as Boingo’s.

With the expectations being so very high, the band took off immediately on the hit parade with “fresh,” “too hot,” “let the music take your mind,” “open sesame,” and “funky stuff.” the temperature was starting to get cool, but kool & the gang lit a match that sparked a crazy flame and heated up the amphitheatre as they went into “jungle boogie,” then segued into “hollywood swinging.” the crowd lost their minds with those two songs back-to-back..

The crowd had to come down from that frenzy, but not by much. Up next was “Cherish,” “Let’s Go Dancing,” then their trademark song, “Ladies Night.”

Just when you thought the crowd couldn’t get any louder, somehow they managed to do just that as kool & the gang closed out the night with “get down on it” and mega hit “celebration.” just like that, a great night of music came to an end..

It was a fantastic way to kick off the summer concert series at The Pacific Amphitheatre and OC Fair.

The Harris-Walz campaign’s love affair with pop music continued in full force on the second night (Aug. 20) of the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

What Can Kamala Harris’ Presidential Campaign Tell Us About the Current State of Pop Fandom? 

The real magic, however, came during the roll call. During each convention, each U.S. state and territory casts their votes for the party’s presidential nominee; last night’s roll call was a symbolic, in-person version of an August online meeting, in which Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic party’s official nominee. DJ Cassidy served as the roll call’s master of ceremonies, using his beloved “Pass the Mic” template to rattle off each state and territory represented in the venue.

For this year’s roll call, the delegates reached across decades of music to illustrate a rich sonic collage of American music history. From country and reggaeton to rock and hip-hop, the breadth of America’s rich blend of cultures and traditions illuminated the United Center arena. To top it all off, Lil Jon made a surprise appearance on the floor of the convention to help his home state of Georgia cast its votes for Harris. As if his mere presence wasn’t enough, he also treated the fired-up crown to a bombastic rendition of his DJ Snake -assisted “Turn Down For What,” which he flipped into a musical tribute to Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Georgia wasn’t the only state to make the most of their moment, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Harris’ home state of California all played multiple songs while they casted their votes.
