Package manager is a collection of software for jailbroken devices. It’s capable of running processes of installing, upgrading, configuring, and removing applications automatically. 

Cydia is the most popular package manager for Jailbroken devices. Jay Freeman, also known as saurik, developed Cydia to manage jailbroken devices.

Also, there are a few other package managers such as Sileo , Zebra and Installer 5. These package managers allow users to install packages from any source on the internet. Also, every jailbreak and package manager comes with a set of default repositories.

Who is the developer of Cydia?

Jay Freeman, also known as saurik developed the Cydia to manage jailbroken devices. He is an American software engineer. He also developed the most popular third party apps such as Apple File Conduit 2, Cycorder, CyDialer, Cydget, Cyntact, Cyueue, Five Icon Dock, Veency, and WinterBoard.  

Saurik has also released Cydia Impactor as a jailbreak removal tool.

What is the difference between Jailbreaking and Unlocking?

Unlocking and jailbreaking are entirely different things. Even the software Jailbreak goes with iOS versions, Unlock is valid for the device. Unlocking is removing carrier-lock to enable use with other carriers. 

You cannot unlock the latest iOS versions using jailbreak, but users can unlock their devices using Jailbreak. UltraSn0w is the most popular unlocking source for jailbroken devices. Developers (iPhone Dev-Team)  updated Ultrasn0w to iOS 6.1 and gave up the Ultrasn0w project. But, there is no available jailbroken unlocking method now.

What is the Legal Status of iOS Jailbreaking?

The legal side of iOS Jailbreaking was first discussed in 2007 mentioning an exception for unlocking carriers  from the Library of Congress. After that, the US Copyright Office directly recognized an exemption to the DMCA to permit jailbreaking which allows iPhone owners to use their phones with applications that are not available from Apple’s store & unlock their iPhones for use with unapproved carriers  in 2010. Previously Apple complained against this exemption saying that jailbreaking to be a violation of copyright law. Then consider DMCA exemptions must be reviewed and renewed every three years or else they expire.

In  2012, the US Copyright Office released a new exemption to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that jailbreaking of smartphones continued to be legal & refused to extend this exemption to tablets, such as iPads. However In 2015, these exemptions were extended to include other devices, including tablets.

Accordingly, software Jailbreak is legal according to the US government. However, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.

What is the difference of Jailbreaking and Android rooting

Jailbreaking of iOS devices is similar to rooting of Android devices because both are used to grant the system-level privileges, which may be transferred to one or more apps. 

But, Android devices already allow the user to sideload 3rd-party apps installed from other sources. Also allow users to modify or replace the full operating system after unlocking the bootloader. 

However, Apple has security features that bootloaders can not be unlocked by the owner to modify the operating system. Also, it is prohibited to install private applications onto corporate phones, sideloading 3rd-party apps onto iOS devices from sources other than the Apple Store. iOS Jailbreaking removes these restrictions and offers modified or pirated releases of popular apps through Cydia which is similar to Android.

How to install apk files

apk files are created for Android devices. It runs only on Google’s mobile operating system. Normally, apk apps cannot install on iDevices running iOS operating systems. However, after the jailbreak process it can install apk apps / files as third party apps on jailbroken iPhones and iPads. But, it cannot work with apk apps properly on iOS devices. Because it uses a different coding system to write apk files. So, it is no use installing apk files on jailbroken iPhones or iPads.

Why is iOS Jailbreak a risk?

While jailbreaking gives you more valuable features there are also risks.  

Installation of malware – Computer criminals are more likely to crash an iPhone to install malware, or to target an iPhone that could easily install malware. So, once you jailbreak your device it will access the file system. So it lets you install malware easily with hacking softwares. Jailbreaking allows you to install pirated applications as well. These apps are not monitored through Apple developers programme. So, Piracy apps could take advantage of installing malware.

It has reported many Security, privacy and stability issues with jailbroken devices for a long time. Here are some of them.

iPhone worm, iKee (2009) – The first iPhone worm created to raise awareness of security issues that jailbreaking can leave your device in an insecure state.

F- Secure (2009) – A malicious worm compromising bank transactions from jailbroken phones in the Netherlands.

John Gruber (2010) – He reported remote code exploits now in the wild and the exploit allowed the creator of a malicious website to take control of iPhones accessing it.

Forbes (2012) – It has analyzed 1,407 free programs available from Apple and a third-party source.  From this 825 were downloaded from Apple’s App Store using the website App Tracker, and 526 from BigBoss Cydia’s default repository. Cydia leaked the device ID and location, photos and browsing history, while the App Store leaked none . 

KeyRaider (2015) – This malware led to stealing users’ login and password information from more than 225,000 people.

Pangu7 is capable of jailbreaking every iOS device on firmware version 7.1 up to 7.1.2.

Pangu7 is an untethered jailbreak, meaning that it persists after reboot, so once it's installed you will not have to reinstall it unless you erase your device.

You will need a computer running Windows XP and newer or a Mac running Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks to macOS 10.14 Mojave and the appropriate Pangu.

# Downloads

• Open the pangu dmg and move the application to your /Applications folder
• Open the terminal and run the following command: sudo -b /Applications/pangu.app/Contents/MacOS/pangu
• Plug your device into your computer and trust your computer
• Disable your passcode (You will be able to re-enable it once the jailbreak process is done)
• Set your device's date to any point before June 2014
• Press jailbreak in the Pangu app on your computer
• Tap Continue to trust the app and allow it to run
• Your device will reboot after a short period, then you will need to unlock it
• Wait a little while and your device will reboot one more time

You will bootloop if you jailbreak your device while in a dark space

• Untick the Install PP25 checkbox

Why am I asked to give Apple ID and password during the iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak?

The exact procedure how Pangu for iOS 9.3.3 works is still to be decoded. Some experts say that it uses a type of cert from the Apple servers to gain the full access in order to install the Pangu app on iPhone.

Pangu team has clearly mentioned on his website that they don’t store Apple ID or password.

However, if you don’t want to give these credentials to any third-party site, you should create a dummy / fake Apple ID and enter the details when asked.

I get “Storage Almost Full” message during the jailbreak process. Should I delete some data from the phone??

If the empty space is less than 500MB on your iPhone / iPad, it is always better to get some data deleted, or transferred from the iPhone to another storage place.

Whenever the storage space is less than 500MB, the phone starts showing sluggishness in using the apps.

But if the free space is more than 500MB, you don’t need to worry about this message. Simply ignore it.

When will English and Mac Version of Pangu 9.3.3 be released?

How to Jailbreak iOS 9.3.3 With Pangu

If you are comfortable with the information provided above, you can proceed with the following steps.

1) First of all, upgrade your device to the latest iOS 9.3. firmware. This is the latest jailbreakable firmware and it contains all the bug fixes and security features from Apple.

2) Back up your device either to iCloud or to local hard disk using iTunes.

3) Turn off Find My iPhone and remove Passcode.

6) Once completed, you’ll get a new icon of PP 5.0 icon on the desktop of your computer. Right-click it and run as administrator. Alternatively, you can also click on PP helper tool button to launch Pangu.

7) Click on “Yes” and “Allow access” button on the subsequent two screens to trust the publisher and the connections.

8) Connect your device with the PC and click on the “Green Button” to proceed.

Make it sure the latest version of iTunes is already installed on your PC, otherwise the jailbeak process will not work.

9) After a while, you may be asked to enter the Apple ID credentials.

10) Wait a little more and the PP / Pangu icon will appear on your iPhone / iPad homescreen.

11) Before opening the Pangu jailbreak, go to General -> Device Management. Tap on the Profile and then tap on the ‘Trust’ button.

12) Now launch Pangu / PP app.

13) You will be prompted to allow push notifications. Tap on OK to allow the PP app to send your Notifications.

14) Tap on the circle and it will start installing Cydia app on your iPhone / iPad.

15) Now wait and relax. You may receive “Storage Almost Full” notification or any other notification from PP jailbreak tool. Just wait and let the tool finish its job.

16) Launch Cydia and let it finish the final work.

As we have told you, this Pangu jailbreak for iOS 9.3.3 is semi-untethered, so to re-jailbreak your device, you’ll have to repeat the Steps 12 – 15 to re-enable the jailreak.

It was suggested that I wipe my recently eBay purchased, used iPhone 4S by the Apple tech on the phone when I was unable to get the phone to accept my Apple ID. At that time neither he nor I were aware that this phone was still connected/assigned/(tethered??) to some unknown, previous owner. (The phone was sold by a naive merchant on eBay who claimed it was in excellent condition.) Having wiped it clean, I began the setup process as if it were a new phone, but a short way into this process I was asked for the previous owner’s password which, as said, is unknown. So, I could go no further. This being the case, it doesn’t seem I’m able to jailbreak this phone if I understand your directions right. Therefore, is there any way into this phone as it is now? I have this awful feeling that by wiping the phone I went too far, and this Apple tech didn’t know quite what to do under these circumstances when he suggested wiping it.

Hi Bart Smyth! Yes, you got it right. You can’t jailbreak your iPhone if you are stuck at that Apple ID and Password screen. I don’t know any trick to bypass it. However, there are many sites and tutorials which claim to have a solution in these situations. But I never tested any such thing.

How to jailbreak iOS 9 with Pangu

As we told you, the Pangu Jailbreak tool for iOS 9 was just released a few minutes ago. We’ve taken the liberty to test it out, and can vouch for its legitimacy as far as jailbreaking the iPhone goes. We tested it out with our iPhone 6s and were able to jailbreak and load Cydia successfully. In this post, we’ll show you how to do the same.

Update: This guide was originally written for iOS 9, iOS 9.0.1, and iOS 9.0.2, but the Pangu Team has recently updated their tool making it possible to also jailbreak iOS 9.1. We suggest you read up about the iOS 9.1 jailbreak limitations first, then make sure you download the latest version of Pangu and follow these instructions to jailbreak your iOS 9.1 device (64-bit device only).

Note: You must be running iOS 9. This tutorial is for Windows-only, since the Pangu tool is a Windows executable. You can run a Windows virtual machine on your Mac if you wish to jailbreak iOS 9 on a Mac. This jailbreak should work for any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch capable of running iOS 9. That includes the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Step 1: Backup your device and connect it to your computer via USB.

Step 2: Disable Find My iPhone via Settings → iCloud → Find My iPhone.

Step 3: Disable Passcode and Touch ID via Settings → Touch ID & Passcode.

Step 4: Enable Airplane mode via Control Center.

Step 5:  Download the Pangu jailbreak tool for iOS 9 from our downloads page  and run it.

Step 6:  Start the Pangu jailbreak by clicking the Start button and click Already Backup when prompted.

Step 7:  Your iPhone will reboot and Pangu will ask you to put your iPhone back into Airplane mode. Once you do this, it will continue the jailbreak.

Step 8: After some time, the Pangu tool will request that you open the Pangu app on the iPhone’s Home screen.

Step 9: Once the Pangu app is run, it will ask to you to allow access to your Photo Library. Tap the accept button on the Pangu screen to continue.

Step 10: Tap the OK button on the “Pangu Would Like to Access Your Photos” pop-up box.

Step 11:  Your iPhone will reboot again. Once you reboot, disable Airplane mode, and run the Cydia app.

Congratulations, your iPhone is jailbroken. What jailbreak tweaks will you install first?

Troubleshooting, how to jailbreak ios 9 on iphone & ipad with pangu.

A jailbreak has been released for all compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models running iOS 9, iOS 9.0.1, and iOS 9.0.2. Arriving out of China, the Pangu jailbreak is the first for iOS 9 and iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

Jailbreaking is intended for advanced users of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and is not appropriate for the average user. There are many reasons why you shouldn’t jailbreak , including the potential introduction of security vulnerabilities, less reliable iOS experience, and perhaps most important, the potential for Apple to deny warranty service and support for a device with an active jailbreak installed.

Those who are comfortable with the risks associated with jailbreaking can follow the instructions below to jailbreak iOS 9 with Pangu using any compatible iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch mode.

How to Jailbreak iOS 9 on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch with Pangu

Currently, the Pangu tool runs in Windows, but an OS X version is expected to be released for Mac shortly.

• Download the Pangu jailbreak tool from here
• Open the Settings app and go to “Touch ID & Passcode” and turn the passcode OFF (this is temporary, you’ll want to be sure to re-enable this later)
• Still in the Settings app, go to “iCloud” and disable “Find My iPhone” – this is also temporary and you will want to turn this back on when finished
• Toggle AirPlane Mode to the ON position
• Connect the iPhone to a computer with iTunes, and make a backup with encryption enabled to iTunes
• Launch the Pangu app downloaded in the first step and click on the Start button, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the iOS 9 jailbreak

You’ll need to provide Pangu with access to your devices Photos during the process. Once the jailbreak has completed, the iPhone or iPad will reboot and you’ll find the familiar brown Cydia icon on the devices home screen.

Remember, users can undo a jailbreak by restoring a device from backups made to iTunes.

Since Pangu is currently limited to Windows, Mac users would need to rely on a virtual machine, or wait until the Mac release of the software, which will likely arrive shortly. Heads up to iPhoneHacks for detailing the process on Windows.

Hello. I’m not a tech and don’t know much about how a jailbreak affects my security, but don’t most people use the jailbreak so they can switch from one carrier to another one if they want? I’d like to stop using Verizon because it’s too expensive but I love my iPhone. Should I use this jailbreak feature so I can keep my iPhone? Thank you. Becky

Jailbreaks from China can be bad, I recommend finding another jailbreak tool which does not come from China. I am not 100% sure that they wont receive data, but I recommend what I am using and I currently do not have any problems, evasion. I do not know if they have an iOS 9 update yet but you would want to check it out.

Hey Becky, a lot of phone carriers will unlock your phone if you are out of your contract period. I live in the UK and o2 do this for free.

When my contract finished (after 2 years) i did it online (but could have called them). I now have a Vodaphone sim in my 02 phone :) No need to jailbreak

Why don’t you title this article “How to destroy iOS 9 security features on your iPhone or iPad with Pangu”? There is no benefit that you can get from jailbreaking that outweighs the loss of security. I guess this article serves as ad click bait for OS X Daily, but it’s irresponsible to post something like this. As a managed IT service provider, I will refuse to support jailbroke devices. I don’t want them on my networks.

Some of our readers like to jailbreak their iPhones, it’s not something I do on a regular basis or particularly recommend for many reasons, especially now that you can sideload apps with iOS 9. But, to each their own.

One assumes that you must ban ALL Android devices on your network by default then!? If you are concerned about security.

Funny, the same can be said about “managed IT service providers.”

Pangu Jailbreak Tool: Everything You Need To Know [How To Use And Download]

The Pangu team is based out of China and gave us the iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak . This release was very unexpected and we weren’t very sure if the jailbreak could be trusted. Before Pangu, there was Evasi0n and they had a pretty good track record. Pangu came out of nowhere and gave us the iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak, which is why we weren’t very sure of it at first. Despite the suspicions, users were eager to try the new jailbreak from Pangu. The very first version of Pangu was only available for Windows users and in Chinese. Later on, an English version of the tool with Mac support was released. The Pangu jailbreak tool is compatible with any iOS device (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) running iOS 7.1 – iOS 7.1.1, iOS 8 – iOS 8.1. and iOS 9 – iOS 9.0.2 If you’re on any of these iOS versions, then you can use Pangu 7, Pangu 8 or Pangu 9 tool to jailbreak your iOS device.

How To Download Pangu

You can download the latest versions of Pangu 7, Pangu 8 and Pangu 9 to jailbreak iOS 7.1 – iOS 7.1.1, iOS 8 – iOS 8.1 and iOS 9 – iOS 9.0.2 respectively, from the iJailbreak Downloads page . The latest versions of the Pangu jailbreak tool are available for both Windows and Mac OS X and comes in English.

How To Jailbreak iOS 7.1 – iOS 7.1.1

If you’re still rocking iOS 7.1 or iOS 7.1.1 on your iOS device, then you can jailbreak using the Pangu 7 jailbreak tool. You can follow our step-by-step guide on how to jailbreak . Something Went Wrong?

Did your jailbreak process not go as smooth as you expected? Well, try downgrading your iTunes version to see if that fixes the problem. Try restarting the jailbreak process and make sure you’ve followed our guide exactly. You cannot go back to iOS 8.1 or earlier if something goes wrong, as Apple isn’t signing any of those versions anymore.

pangu gave me lots of greif then I down graded my iTunes (woopie :/) then I tried to restore my iPhone before jailbreaking to a lower 8.1 but that not working becuz I downloaded the frameware the provide at any penguin or whatever and I I cant seem to open any of the files on the browse option nore paste the whole thing in the bar what do I do?

PanGu Jailbreak for iOS 9 – iOS 9.3.3

Team Pangu is known for the multiple releases of jailbreak tools for iOS 7 and iOS 8. They also released two PanGu jailbreak tools designed to install Cydia on iOS 9. One for 64-bit devices on iOS 9.2 – 9.3.3, one for iOS 9 – 9.0.2 on 32-bit, and iOS 9.0 – iOS 9.1 on 64bit.

What is PanGu?

PanGu jailbreak for iOS 9 was the first successful tool that allowed the installation of Cydia on all 32-bit and 64-bit devices. At first, there was a PanGu Windows application that supported iOS 9 up to iOS 9.0.2 running a 32-bit system, and iOS 9.0 up to iOS 9.1 for 64-bit devices.

When you used the Pangu9 jailbreak it installed an untether for iOS 9 – 9.1 making the jailbreak work even after restart. There was no need to re-jailbreak your device if you forget to charge it on time. PanGu for Windows and PanGu for Mac worked with iOS firmware up to 9.1.

To jailbreak your device, it was required to connect your iPhone or iPad to the computer through a USB cable. PanGu installed on the device a mobile app allowing to proceed with the jailbreak and Cydia installation. The final version of PanGu for Windows was 1.3.2 and for Mac 1.1.1.

Team Pangu developed a different approach for jailbreaking iOS 9.2. PanGu app, like most modern jailbreaks today, was packed into an IPA file. Once NvwaStone IPA was sideloaded on a supported device, the user could easily jailbreak iOS 9.2 by running the click-to-jailbreak app.

This time, PanGu was able to jailbreak iOS 9.2 up to iOS 9.3.3 installed on 64-bit devices. Unfortunately for the jailbreak community, the new iOS 9.2 release was secured against the untether making Cydia and all installed tweaks stop working after a reboot.

In order to change the un-jailbroken state and use Cydia and tweaks after a reboot, it's required to re-jailbreak iOS 9 with the installed PanGu app. The tool automatically detects if your device model and installed iOS version are supported. Make a full backup of the device before jailbreak.

Team Pangu also included an option “Use embedded certificate effective until April 2017” into their jailbreak. Once selected, Pangu 9 will install an app that is signed by a revoked certificate, and you will not need to reinstall the Pangu app. Of course, this feature doesn't work in 2022.

There is also a big chance that when you have an older device running iOS 9 it has installed iOS 9.3.5 or iOS 9.3.6. Pangu doesn't support iOS 9.3.5, but there are other jailbreak tools that do. To jailbreak the latest iOS 9 use Phoenix or p0laris jailbreaks available on our website.

Just as a curiosity, “Pangu” is the name of “the first living being and the creator of all in some versions of Chinese mythology”.

Download PanGu Jailbreak

PanGu Jailbreak was released as a Desktop application for Windows and Mac with support for iOS 9.0 to iOS 9.1 and as an IPA package with support for iOS 9.2 – iOS 9.3.3. The IPA file can be signed with a free certificate. For this purpose, you will need an Apple ID and password.

Sign and sideload PanGu IPA for iOS 9

PanGu Jailbreak can be installed on all supported iOS 9 devices using Sideloadly, the best working Cydia Impactor alternative . For the purpose of this article, we will use Sideloadly as the IPA installation tool. It works on macOS and Windows. Linux's users can instead try AltStore .

Step 1. Download PanGu Jailbreak IPA (link available at top of this page).

Step 2. Open Sideloadly application.

Step 3. Connect your iPhone or iPad to the computer via USB.

Step 4. Drag and drop the PanGu IPA to the Sideloadly window.

Step 5. Enter your Apple ID to sign IPA file.

Step 6. Click the Start button to install the PanGu app on your iDevice.

Step 7. Provide the password for your Apple ID.

To make this process even easier we included on top of this page quick URL links allowing you to download, sign and install the PanGu Jailbreak v1.1 IPA file with just one click through your favorite tools such as Sideloadly, ReProvision, or AltStore. Because PanGu IPA was signed by your own certificate it's required to trust it to open app on your device.

Step 8. Open the Settings app from the Home Screen.

Step 9. Navigate to General → VPN & Device Management.

Step 10. Click on the developer app with your e-mail.

Step 11. Tap on Trust to allow the application to run.

Install PanGu without a computer

PanGu for iOS 9 can also be installed on your iPhone or iPad using direct web links. If you don't own a computer, you can try to install it using direct links without the need to use a PC. It uses a public certificate to sign the PanGu app, and it's often revoked by Apple.

Install PanGu without a PC

Step 1. Tap on Install PanGu from the Safari browser.

Step 2. Tap Install on the message prompt “would like to install PanGu”.

Step 3. YouTube app Icon will appear on your Home Screen.

Step 4. Navigate to Settings → General → Device Management.

Step 5. Find the newly installed Enterprise App Certificate and trust it.

Step 6. Run the PanGu app from Home Screen.

When the installation goes well, it's also required to trust the newly added certificate from the Settings app. Follow the instruction from the previous installation guide, starting from Step 8.

• Optimize backup process and improve jailbreak speed.

• Fix a bug that leads to failure to use the instrument function in Xcode.
• Fixed a bug that leads to a 0A error code.
• Fixed failure of launching on some PCs.
• Improved jailbreak success rate.
• Ensure the removal of the Pangu app.
