We found only a couple of cafés open on a sunny weekday in the winter. Both were on the "basic" side, small, noisy and smokey, but of course the service was fast and polite and the clientel were talkative and friendly.

The village is located in an oasis of cleared farms and vineyards in the midst of the Maures forests of pine, pubescent oak, cork oak and olive trees. Corks from the numerous cork oaks are one of the local products - along with Côte de Provence wines, olives, red and yellow marble and pewter. Color is added in the first few months of the year with mimosa growing thickly, in peoples gardens, on the hillsides along the northwest part of town and along the roads and lanes nearby. On the D44 towards Le Muy, just a few kilometers from Plan-de-la-Tour we saw forests of the bright yellow shrubs. Just east of town, where the D74 heads out across the farmlands towards Sainte Maxime, there's a forest of umbrella pine ( pin parasole ).

History of Plan-de-la-Tour

First record, 12th century Castrum de Planaturris

The earliest official record of the village is the name Castrum de Planaturris from the 12th century, but the earliest real record of local habitation goes back to prehistoric times: a menhir, 3 dolmens and related artifacts dating to the Bronze Age are located at Reverti, 5 km south of the current village. Celtic-Ligurian sites have been located nearby, and there are vestiges of various Roman sites.

Market day: Thur. Market is Thurs mornings, summer and winter, on the south side of town. It isn't a huge market, but there's pretty much a stand for everything: fishmonger, fruits and local produce, 'terroir' products such as local wines, honey, patés and cheeses, some clothes, roasted chicken, and so on.

This unique village, nestled in the heart of the Maures massif, seems to have been placed by a divine hand in an amphitheater of wooded and flowery hills. Surrounded by vineyards, it offers an enchanting setting. However, don’t be fooled by appearances, because this hamlet hides many other treasures to discover.

From the Gulf, a narrow road winds through the cork oaks and crosses small passes before descending towards the plain where the village is rooted in the middle of the vineyards. This typically Provencal commune is lively and forward-looking, while respecting the riches of its land. Located in the heart of the Maures, near the sea, it strives to preserve an exceptional living environment.

At first glance, the village may seem modest, but it is pleasant to stroll through its streets and discover charming features such as the church bell tower, fountains, presbytery and traditional wells. On Place Foch, shaded by plane trees, a Provençal market comes alive on Thursdays and shops are open every day, including Sundays. To soak up the local atmosphere, sit on the Quatre Chemins bench.

25 HAMLETS, NOT ONE LESS!

Le Plan de la Tour is a place that cannot be visited, but can be discovered. This extensive territory presents a unique feature in the region: 25 discreet hamlets scattered among the steep hills. Each of these hamlets has its own character and way of life, which makes the discovery of these pearls with their delicious toponymy even more pleasant. For example, Les Brugassières, where heather grows, Le Préconil, Vallaury, Le Vernet, where alder grows, Prat Bourdin with its menhirs, Le Revest… As you walk along the rural paths, you can discover the wildlife and local flora, while following the traces of a past that goes back to prehistory. It is an enriching experience to live in all seasons.

WIDE NATURE, LAND OF DISCOVERY

Want a preview? The “Gorgues” trail is ideal. It is easy and accessible to all, and will allow you to discover the village as a whole: its vineyard, its hamlets, as well as two menhirs which stand on the edge of a stream. To the north of the village, the mining trail bears witness to past mining activity, with the extraction of lead and silver. By following this path, you will climb naturally from the plains to the tops of the surrounding hills. Another path connects La Garde-Freinet to San Peïre, via the Col de Vignon and the hills. At an altitude of 416 meters, one can better imagine this world apart, a true paradise for hiking, mountain biking, horse riding or even meditation. Everyone can choose their mode of transport to enjoy this exceptional environment.

TRADITIONS ARE CELEBRATE ALL YEAR ROUND

The rhythm of the seasons is marked by numerous traditional festivals. In March, the Corso parades with floats decorated with white heather, coming from our hills (every other year). At the end of April, we celebrate olive plants and olive oil, as well as the retro car festival. In May, Saint-Pons blesses animals and agricultural equipment during the donkey festival. During the summer we look forward to the night markets, balls and Festival dans les Vignes shows. In September, when the grapes have ripened, we honor the cooked wine. And of course, Christmas is a special time when the hamlets are lit up, the lantern parade is prepared and the big vigil brings together all the inhabitants of the village around the cacho fue . Le Plan de la Tour is a village in the South, where a fraternal atmosphere reigns.

LET’S GO FOR A WALK

From the Tourist Office go down Place Foch to Place de l’Oranger then take Rue Saint-Martin to its square and its old well . Take rue Pasteur and stroll through the alleys up to Place Clemenceau where the hackberry trees bathe the church in their refreshing shade. At the old presbytery, take the porch towards rue de l’Horloge; view of the church bell tower. Go up Avenue du Général-Leclerc to the Foyer des Campagnes. To go further, a few hundred meters on the right discover the Emponse district, its cobbled streets and small squares.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The village of Plan de la Tour was created in 1792 from the detachment of the eastern part of the Garde-Freinet. The most important hamlet then was that of Saint-Martin. In 1835, it expanded by more than a thousand hectares from the western part of Sainte-Maxime. Since the Neolithic period, men have left their traces there by the construction of menhirs (see the Gorgues circuit) and dolmens. In the Middle Ages, the different lordships which made it up belonged successively to the viscounts of Marseille, of the abbey of Saint-Victor, to the monks of Lérins and in the 13th century to the Cistercians of the abbey of Thoronet. Most of the twenty-five hamlets that make it up today correspond to the final phase of the reconquest of its territory, in the 16th century, by the monks of Thoronet.

• The Saint-Martin church and its campanile underwent a beautiful renovation in 2019. • The renovated old neighborhoods with their cobbled streets. • The 25 hamlets that make up the commune. • The menhirs of Prat Bourdin; follow the path on foot after the hamlet for 80 m, cross the ford, the first is located 40 m higher on the left and the second 70 m further on the right.

• Route de la Corniche des Crêtes: residential area on the edge of the Maures forest. Viewpoint over both the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the Bay of Cavalaire (orientation table). And on the La Mole valley if you go up a little. In these woods: the ruined Peinier farm (group of 18th century houses called “Ménages”) near a natural water resurgence, to be discovered by following the “Les Panoramas” hiking circuit ( www.visitgolfe.com ).

Le Plan-de-la-Tour also has an ancient heritage including the oppidum of San Peire and the menhir Neolithic final Prat-Bourdin.

From the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, a narrow road winds up through the cork oaks before swooping down to a plain and vineyards where the village has taken root. Acutely aware of the riches of its terroir, this typical and very lively Provencal municipality looks to the future and is determined to maintain its exceptional lifestyle in the heart of the Massif des Maures, a stone’s throw from the sea. At first glance, this small town does not seem very big until you walk round the alleys discovering the church’s campanile, fountains, the presbytery and wells of yesteryear. Beneath the plane trees in Place Foch, a Provencal market adds a lively splash of colour on Thursdays, and shops are open every day including Sundays. You can absorb the ambiance at Quatre Chemins where locals sit in the sun swapping tall stories! And yet you are far from having made the “tour” of this unusual municipality.

No less than 25 hamlets !

Plan de la Tour is not a mere visit; it’s a journey of discovery. Extending across quite a large area, the district boasts a unique feature for this region - 25 tiny hamlets scattered across the deceptively steep-sided hills. Each has its own character and way of life and it is always a joy to venture out in any season to seek out the pearls in this treasure trove of place names: Les Brugassières (where the heather grows), Préconil, Vallaury, Vernet (where the alder tree grows), Prat Bourdin or Revest where the horses run free. It is not uncommon on the many forest trails to come face to face with a buzzard or the elusive fox, or to be accompanied by a donkey on your walk. Dotted about are numerous traces of the past dating back to prehistoric times.

Wild nature: land of discovery

Would you like a preview? The Gorgues path is an easy walk accessible to all and gives you a taste of all that the commune has to offer: for example its vineyard, hamlets and two menhirs standing proud at a bend in the stream. Everywhere there are footpaths criss-crossing the landscape, beckoning you to follow them. You can climb from the plain to the top of one of the many hills. You get a better idea of this world apart from San Peïre, at an altitude of 416m: a paradise for hiking, mountain biking, horse riding or meditation… each to his own form of transport !

Traditions celebrated all year round

Traditional festivals mark the eternal rhythm of the seasons; in March Corso floats covered in white heather, at the end of April plants and olive oil, in May Saint-Pons blesses animals and all things agricultural, and in the summer months evening markets, dances and the Festival dans les Vignes performances. In September, when the grapes have already ripened on the vine, it’s the turn of the Vigne à l’Époque Romaine to be celebrated. The mulled wine festival heralds Christmas as the hamlets put up their lights and prepare for the lantern parade and famous Grande Veillée when all the locals gather around the cacho fue.

A little history

The village of Plan de la Tour was created in 1792 as a break-away settlement of the eastern side of La Garde Freinet. The biggest hamlet at the time was Saint-Martin. In 1835, it grew to cover more than a thousand hectares of the western part of Sainte-Maxime. Man has been leaving tracks since the Neolithic era in the menhirs (see the Gorgues circuit) and dolmens. In the Middle Ages, the various seigniories that made up the region belonged in turn to viscounts from Marseille, the Saint-Victor abbey, monks from the Lérins islands and in the 13th century to the Cistercians from Thoronet Abbey. The 25 hamlets in the municipality today represent the final phase of the re-conquest of the territory in the 16th century by the Thoronet monks.

The little hamlet of Forge offers a delightful view of the village, vineyard and circle of hills that surround it. And the road as it swings round from one hillside to another offers some very characteristic images of the wild, often sparsely inhabited Maures hills

A stroll in the village

From the Tourist Office walk down to Place Foch as far as Place de l’Oranger then take Rue Saint-Martin as far as the site of the old wells. Pick up Rue Pasteur and stroll round the back streets leading up to Place Clemenceau where the Mediterranean hackberry trees provide much needed shade to the church. Visit the open exhibition in the former presbytery before going through the porch to Rue de l’Horloge for a great view of the church’s campanile. Return via Avenue du Général Leclerc as far as Foyer des Campagnes. For a longer stroll, explore the cobbled streets of the Emponse district several hundred metres on the right.

Restauranttipps

In den Gassen von Plan-de-la-Tour findet man zahlreiche sehr idyllische Restaurants die den ganzen Charme der Region versprühen und gute Küche bieten.

Empfehlenswert ist hier sicherlich das „La Tour du Plan“ am Ortseingang mit einer schönen Terrasse und sehr guter französisch-mediterraner Küche sowie das „Bistrot de Marceau“ am Place Clémenceau, welches bei Franzosen sehr beliebt ist.

Typisch französisch und gemütlich eingerichtet ist das „Le Vieux Moulin“ mitten im Ortszentrum. Es gibt unter einer schattigen Ramade direkt an der Straße einige Außenplätze, diese sind jedoch schnell vergeben. Die Küche ist frisch und das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt.

A village cooperative in full revival, nestled in a green setting, sits at the entrance of the Saint-Tropez Gulf. In 2006, the winemakers of Plan de la Tour changed their philosophy dramatically, focusing instead on quality. A few years later, the bet is successful. More demanding and better structured than in the past, the Var cooperative is more attractive than ever.

In addition to house wines, the shop of Les Vignerons du Plan de la Tour offers a selection of local products: olive oil, anchovy paste, tapenade, terrines, aperitif wines etc.

Original and unusual

The commune of Plan de la Tour is home to many professionals of the Seventh Art. The most illustrious are Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp who still share there a nice property of fifteen hectares. This is where Monsieur, under the pseudonym Richard Mudd, directed Madame in the music video for the song ‘Pourtant’ (Bliss album). The French star has also inspired the winemakers of Plan de la Tour, who pay homage to her every year with a nod cuvee called ‘Un Coin de Paradis.’ Its special feature is an original bottle that changes for each vintage. It’s a true collector produced in only 3,000 bottles.

De villa is smaakvol ingericht in een kleurenpallet van wit, beige en grijs. Modern met een traditionele touch. Het interieur is van hoge kwaliteit. Luxe zitmeubelen, comfortabele boxspring bedden en mooie kwaliteit linnen. 

De living bestaat uit een luxe zithoek en een moderne eettafel geschikt voor 6 personen, deze is uit te breiden tot 12 personen. Vanuit de living is er toegang tot het grote terras aan de voorzijde van de villa.

De keuken is modern en compleet ingericht. Vanuit hier heeft u toegang tot een 2e terras met eettafel voor 12 personen. Een wasmachine is voorzien in de bijkeuken.

De villa beschikt over 5 slaapkamers. Twee op de begane grond en drie op de eerste verdieping. Alle slaapkamers zijn voorzien van airconditioning. Er zijn 4 badkamers; 3 op de begane grond en 1 badkamer op de eerste verdieping. De indeling is als volgt; op de begane grond; Slaapkamer 1 heeft een tweepersoonsbed (160x200) en een en-suite badkamer (bad en toilet). Slaapkamer 2 heeft een kleiner tweepersoonsbed (140x200). Er is een en-suite kleine badkamer (douche en toilet)

Op de 1e verdieping; Slaapkamer 3 is de Master Bedroom. Er is een tweepersoonsbed (160x200) met een en-suite badkamer (douche en toilet). Slaapkamer 4 heeft ook een tweepersoonsbed (160x200). Op de 1e verdieping is  een apart toilet aanwezig. Slaapkamer 5 (gelegen op de 1e verdieping) is eigenlijk een kinderkamer. Zeer originele indeling, met 4 comfortabele zogeheten vouwbedden.

De villa ligt in een prachtige ruime tuin met gazon, uitgerust met hoogwaardig meubilair op zowel beide terrassen als bij het zwembad. Het eerste terras, grenzend aan de keuken, heeft een grote teakhouten eettafel met plaats voor 12 personen en een grote gasbarbecue - perfect voor een lunch of diner in de zwoele Provençaalse lucht....

De villa ligt in een prachtige ruime tuin met gazon, uitgerust met hoogwaardig meubilair op zowel beide terrassen als bij het zwembad. Het eerste terras, grenzend aan de keuken, heeft een grote teakhouten eettafel met plaats voor 12 personen en een grote gasbarbecue - perfect voor een lunch of diner in de zwoele Provençaalse lucht.

Gelegen aan de voorzijde van de woonkamer, treft u een groot terras (lange witte tafel met 12 design stoelen) gevolgd door een iets lager, prachtig loungeterras met uitzicht op de tuin en het lager / verderop gelegen zwembad. Een perfecte plek om te te lounchen op de ruime loungebank en te genieten van het uitzicht op de tuin en het zwembad.

Het zwembad meet 10 x 5 meter en is voorzien van design tuinmeubilair (10 ligbedden). De afstand tussen de villa en het zwembad is 15 meter. De tuin is gedeeltelijk met gras begroeid. Hoge bomen zorgen voor schaduw op een warme zonnige dag. Het gras is licht glooiend maar heerlijk voor kinderen om op te spelen. Gelegen in een Provençaalse omgeving, biedt de villa aan de ene kant een residentieel uitzicht en aan de andere kant uitzicht op de heuvels en de wijngaarden. Voor een goede wandelaar kan het dorp Plan de la Tour te voet worden bereikt.

De ligging is aantrekkelijk dankzij de combinatie van het rustige Provençaals achterland dichtbij het dorp Plan de la Tour en de nabijheid van het drukke, gezellige Sainte Maxime met haar vele terrassen en restaurants. Plan de la Tour zelf is een levendig Provençaals dorp met leuke restaurants en een wekelijkse markt.

Das Wohnzimmer ist modern und luxuriös eingerichtet mit mehreren schönen Sitzgelegenheiten.  Es gibt einen Kamin, der in der Vor- und Nachsaison sehr angenehm zu nutzen ist. Vom Wohnzimmer aus haben Sie einen schönen Blick über die Terrasse und den Swimmingpool, in Richtung Mittelmeer.

Die Küche - direkt neben dem Wohnzimmer gelegen und mit Zugang zur Terrasse - ist modern und komplett ausgestattet. Sie verfügt unter anderem über einen großen amerikanischen Kühlschrank, Nespresso-Kaffeemaschine, Wasserkocher, Backofen, Mikrowelle und Geschirrspüler. Alle Küchengeräte sind vorhanden, wie Toaster, Küchenmixer, Wasserkocher, Blender. Durch eine große Glasschiebetür gelangen Sie direkt vom Wohnzimmer und der Küche auf die große Terrasse mit Meerblick. 

Die Villa verfügt über 6 luxuriöse Schlafzimmer und 5 Badezimmer, von denen sich 5 im Haupthaus und 1 in einem separaten Studio direkt neben der Villa befinden. 

Alle Schlafzimmer befinden sich im Erdgeschoss und sind klimatisiert. Alle Betten sind luxuriös und messen 2x90x200 und sind mit schöner Luxusbettwäsche ausgestattet. 

Die Schlafzimmer 1 und 2 befinden sich auf der Terrassenseite der Villa. Schlafzimmer 1 ist das Hauptschlafzimmer mit einem schönen eigenen Badezimmer (Waschbecken, begehbare Dusche und WC). Direkt neben Schlafzimmer 1 befindet sich Schlafzimmer 2, das das Badezimmer von Schlafzimmer 1 nutzt. Diese Kombination ist attraktiv für Eltern mit kleineren Kindern.  

Die Schlafzimmer 3, 4 und 5, die alle über ein luxuriöses, modernes Bad verfügen, befinden sich auf der anderen Seite des Wohnzimmers. Für eine gute Aussicht, siehe unsere Fotos. 

Schlafzimmer 6 und Bad 5 befinden sich in einem separaten Studio direkt neben der Villa. Dieses gemütliche Studio ist auch mit einer schönen Luxusküche ausgestattet. Unserer Meinung nach sehr praktisch für den Besuch von Freunden oder für Großeltern, die auch unabhängig und mit Privatsphäre wohnen möchten.

Die Villa befindet sich auf einem Hügel und bietet daher einen schönen Blick auf das Mittelmeer. Die Villa bietet viel Privatsphäre für einen Ruhe-, Natur- und Strandurlaub in einem. Die Villa befindet sich auf einem Hügel und bietet daher einen schönen Blick auf das Mittelmeer. Die Villa bietet viel Privatsphäre für einen Ruhe-, Natur- und Strandurlaub in einem. Es gibt mehrere Terrassen mit Sonne oder Schatten. Insgesamt werden Sie 100 m2 Terrasse genießen.

Unter dem überdachten Teil der Terrasse bei dem niedlichen kleinen Turm befindet sich eine schöne Lounge und im Turm selbst ist eine Bar. Unserer Meinung nach der ideale Platz, um einen leckeren Aperitif zu genießen. 

Für Mahlzeiten im Freien verfügt die Küche über einen schönen Weber Genesis 2 Grill. Nehmen Sie Platz an einem der beiden Esstische in der Nähe der Küche bzw. des Wohnzimmers. 

Der Swimmingpool befindet sich direkt vor der Villa und ist von einer großzügigen Sonnenterrasse aus Naturstein umgeben. Er misst 11,5 x 5 Meter und ist 2,5 Meter tief. Luxuriöse Sonnenliegen und Sonnenschirme machen das Gefühl von Südfrankreich perfekt. Ein schöner Pluspunkt ist das Vorhandensein eines Petanque-Platzes und einer Tischtennisplatte.

Auf der einen Seite schöne Landschaft - auf einem privaten Grundstück von 7.000 m2 - die Ruhe und Privatsphäre bietet, auf der anderen Seite eine kurze Entfernung von lebhaften Sainte Maxime mit seinen Restaurants und Sandstränden. Auf der einen Seite schöne Landschaft - auf einem privaten Grundstück von 7.000 m2 - die Ruhe und Privatsphäre bietet, auf der anderen Seite eine kurze Entfernung von lebhaften Sainte Maxime mit seinen Restaurants und Sandstränden. Der größte Supermarkt der Region ist nur 8 Autominuten entfernt. Siehe auch den Google Maps Standort unten.

Das Zentrum des lebhaften Sainte Maxime ist etwa 10 Minuten entfernt. Ein Tagesausflug ist natürlich mit dem Boot (Linienverkehr Bateau Vert) nach Saint Tropez möglich. Das Dorf Plan de la Tour ist nur 3 Autominuten von der Villa entfernt.

Im Rahmen der Trivia und berühmte und bekannte Bewohner (Schauspieler und Weltstars). Sie blicken auf die Weinberge des berühmtesten Piraten der Welt. Manchmal die Karibik und manchmal die Côte d'Azur.
