If you're looking for a camping adventure but would prefer more comfort than a sleeping back on rocky ground can provide, you're in luck: Texas is also full of fun glamping destinations, from riverside spots to forested properties. Savannah’s Meadow, Celeste

A hot commodity in North Texas, Savannah’s Meadow offers two tree houses: The Bare Creek Hollow Treehouse and Majestic Oak Treehouse, both of which could’ve been plucked from a children’s fairytale book. Bare Creek Hollow is about three stories off the ground and has a living room, balcony, kitchen, and full bathroom, while Majestic Oak, also about three stories off the ground, has a hot tub and pool below, plus a kitchen, sky lounge, and a deck. A living tree runs through the middle of Majestic Oak, giving the space a real woodsy feel. Savannah’s Meadow is open from March 1 through November 1, and reservations go fast, so be sure to book far in advance.

The Retreat on the Hill, Cottonwood Shores

Courtesy of The Retreat on The Hill

Overlooking Lake Marble Falls and Lake LBJ, The Retreat on the Hill is a “glampominium” site with safari tents, teepees, and luxury tents, all with private decks. The Stardome Suite is about 100 feet over Horseshoe Bay, offering stunning views from the clear-domed suite with a private deck, fire pit, private restroom, and indoor and outdoor showers. The Bird’s Nest is a bit more primitive option, with an open concept that’s not completely waterproof. Plus, it has “The Egg,” which keeps you dry during rain. Other options include a luxurious suite made from a shipping container, and Sunset Cliff House, an A-frame oasis with a 15-foot cathedral ceiling, clear side walls, a glass-sided tub, and a stargazing balcony.

Cypress Valley, Spicewood

Yoki Treehouse is perched in a cypress tree above a ravine and includes a king-size bed, deck, private bathroom, kitchenette, and a small loft for a third person. The Nest is a bit larger and suitable for a family, and it features round walls, a green roof, and pallet walls that support up-cycling. Willow and Juniper tree houses are solar powered and come with a porch, but have a shared community space with shared bathrooms, picnic tables, and a swimming pool. There’s also Lofthaven, a yurt constructed around the trunk of a cypress tree; the bathhouse and kitchenette are connected to the bedroom by a suspension bridge.

Collective Retreats, Wimberley

Courtesy of Collective Hill Country

Tents include wood-burning stoves, private decks, and ensuite bathrooms. Collective Retreats also offers in-tent massages, sound meditations, campfire s’mores, hiking, and even a Texas barbecue experience, where a curated box is delivered to your tent with all the ingredients you need for a Texas dinner.

If the photo above doesn’t immediately make you want to rush to book a stay at Cypress Valley Treehouses then I don’t know what will.

This place seriously looks like heaven on earth, so it’s no surprise that it plays host to many weddings.

There are an impressive five treehouses to choose from, each wonderfully unique in its own little way.

The question isn’t ‘Should I stay?’ but more ‘Which treehouse do I want to stay in?’.

And as if the accommodation wasn’t enough, you can even zip line among the trees on-site, or relax in the lakeside pool!

What guests say:   “We stayed in Yoki. Just wow. First off this is not just a treehouse. This is a piece of art. The bathhouse is simple yet incredibly elegant. There is a gorgeous soaking tub, a walk-in shower, and a toilet. The bedroom, living areas, and kitchenette are beautiful. The decor is reminiscent of the late ’50s and ’60s but with a modern touch.”

4. Skybox Cabins

the-hive-treehouse-at-skybox-cabins-at-sunset-glamping-texas

Price per night:  From $209 for 2 people

Location:  Glen Rose, nr Fort Worth

Skybox Cabins is easily one of my favorite places to go glamping in Texas.

I’m a sucker for cabins and treehouses so as you can imagine, this place is right up my street!

I’m already daydreaming about stargazing from the outdoor netted hammock bed.

Set on fifty acres of native live oaks and a seasonal creek, you’ll find five different cabins, each as beautiful as the last.

They all have their own merits so it’s really difficult to choose a favorite, but just know that if you book a stay here you’ll be getting beautiful interiors, amazing decking, and even better views!

What guests say:   “This place is AMAZING. My fiancé and I recently stayed in The Hive and were so blown away from the moment we got there. The cabin and surroundings are ABSOLUTELY beautiful (I mean more so than even the pictures make it seem). And the owners made sure our stay was nothing short of amazing.”

5. Yurt in the Trees

Price per night:  From $205 for 2 people

I haven’t seen many yurts as impressive as Yurt in the Trees , and trust me when I say I’ve seen a lot of yurts in my time!

Nestled between live oaks on an elevated deck overlooking a beautiful Hill Country creek-wrought canyon, you’ll find this wonderful yurt.

Step inside and you’ll discover cedar-planked flooring, a comfy queen-size bed, a TV and Wi-Fi, a full bathroom with a tub, a coffee bar, and a dome window ideal for stargazing. Phew, that’s a lot!

Basically, if you couldn’t already tell by now it’s pretty beautiful and seriously well-equipped.

What guests say:  “It was the perfect place to relax. I enjoyed getting to explore the grounds and spend some time around the friendly animals. Reading on the deck and the swings was very peaceful. The large tub and spacious bathroom made for a nice spa vibe. There are lots of cool breweries and restaurants in the area too.”

interior-of-firesong-ranch-ndotto-safari-tent-glamping-texas

FireSong Ranch NDotto Safari Tent is so modern and beautiful that it doesn’t even really feel like glamping.

This safari tent is a whole step above glamping and that’s exactly why it’s ironically one of my all-time favorite places to go glamping in Texas.

So, where to start with this place? Whether it’s the spacious decking with amazing views, the outdoor hot tub, and indoor soaking bath, or the ridiculously beautiful and well-equipped interiors, it’s impossible not to fall head over heels for this tent.

Try to resist booking a stay here – I dare you!

What guests say:  “We cannot say enough fabulous things about it! Ms. Dawn went over the top in creating this extraordinary getaway and she was so wonderful in making our stay unforgettable. She left no detail unturned and it was truly the most peaceful, relaxing time we’ve ever had.”

Price per night:  From $379 for 4 people

Location:  Fentress, nr San Antonio

Wahwahtaysee Resort Tents and Cabin is easily one of my favorite places to go glamping in Texas.

You won’t find many safari tents as spacious and accommodating as the one above!

Set on over 100 acres of pristine wilderness on the San Marcos River, the property features seven beautiful safari tents that were custom-made in South Africa, as well as a separate luxury cabin.

And trust me when I say they are all seriously stunning.

With a complimentary gold cart included in each stay, you’ll soon find yourself exploring the grounds, fly fishing, kayaking, doing yoga, tubing, or dining with their private chef.

What guests say:  “We absolutely LOVED every minute of our experience from beginning to end. We stayed in the Little Dipper tent and were blown away by the accommodations. Super clean and lots of attention to detail, i.e. Aveda products, French press, wonderful linens, ice chest, etc.”

8. El Cosmico Trailers

However, they are all just as fabulous as each other!

But if you don’t fancy sleeping in a trailer don’t worry because they also have safari tents, teepees, and some of my favorite yurts in Texas .

What guests say:   “My one-night stay in the Amigo trailer did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded expectations! The tiny Barbie pink camper was roomier, quieter, and had more amenities than I would have imagined. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and there was an outlet in the closet that allowed you to charge your phone while lying in bed.”

With jaw-dropping views, enchanted evenings, and magical accommodation, it’s not hard to see why Talula Mesa Tents is one of my all-time favorite places to go glamping in Texas!

Overlooking the north shore of Lake Travis, the fifteen-acre site is home to three large tents and one small tent, all with great views and spread out for privacy.

All the tents are amazing but, of course, my favorite has to be the Grand Aztec tent which has the best lake views!

But don’t worry, they all come complete with paddleboards and kayaks so you can enjoy the lake up-close.

What guests say:  “This place is EXCEPTIONAL! It felt like a cozy little cabin feel when I walked in, and then I was immediately transported to a cozy, glam treehouse when I turned the corner to see the giant windows and trees. 13. Walden Retreats Tents

walden-retreats-luxury-tent

Location:  Johnson City, nr Austin

If you’re looking for luxury, luxury is exactly what you’ll find at Walden Retreats Tents .

Their 525 square foot air-conditioned safari tents are more like modern homes than tents.

With king-size beds, clawfoot bathtubs, private bathrooms, and handmade textiles, they really haven’t skimped on anything.

However, the real draw of this glamping site is its location.

Walden Retreats is a 96-acre property set along the cliffs of the Pedernales River in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

As such, the views really are second-to-none!

What guests say:   “Walden is such a magical experience. The safari-style tents are super spacious and luxurious. The decor is stunning. The bed is huge and comfortable (Casper bedding) and the claw-foot tub is equipped with the best-smelling Aesop products. The kitchen is fully stocked with super nice tools/supplies. Basically what I’m saying is that you need to book a stay here pronto!

What guests say:   “This is an adorable little getaway spot. Private, secluded, relaxing. The decor is modern and on point. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud. The outdoor bath is wonderful. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone especially couples looking for a nice romantic getaway.”

If you want to get closer to nature (but in style!), Mystic Quarry Tipis might just be your new favorite place to go glamping in Texas.

Their tipis are inspired by the Native American people of the Great Plain, and despite them being luxurious, they allow you to travel back in time.

There’s also plenty to do on the resort, including a large pool, hot tub, roof deck for sunset parties, a hike and bike nature trail, multiple courts, a recreation room, and so much more.

Plus, you’re only a shuttle ride away from the Guadalupe!

What guests say:  “Wow, I can’t say enough great things about this place! This is definitely a destination that has it all. From the minute we checked in the staff was wonderful, $1 beers (who can argue with that), and the accommodation was so clean and fun. Basecamp Terlingua is one of the most famous places to go glamping in Texas – and for good reason!

They are perhaps most well-known for their bubbles alongside their tipis, casitas, retro trailers, and lotus tents.

These iconic bubbles really offer a one-of-a-kind experience. I mean, what other accommodation allows you to best soak up panoramic views of Big Bend?

But don’t just stay here for the views! The bubbles also benefit from air conditioning and heating, Wi-Fi, an indoor shower and toilet, a Keurig coffee maker, a mini-fridge, and an outdoor seating area with a private fire pit.

Oh, and some even have a private hot tub and heated pool! Talk about luxury.

What guests say:  “First of all the cleanliness, amenities and comfort were outstanding. The chairs by the fire pit were a great place to unwind. 20. Air Castle Treehouse

exterior-of-air-castle-highpoint-treehouse

Price per night:  From $330 for 4 people

Location:  Ladonia, nr Dallas

Moving from one unique property to another, the absolute masterpiece that is Air Castle Treehouse has to be seen to be believed.

Unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, the treehouse was made from four shipping containers and comprises a whopping two bedrooms and five balconies.

My favorite of those balconies has to be the third floor screened porch where you’ll find your private hot tub!

That is closely followed by the sixth-floor crow’s nest that sits fifty feet in the air, where you can swing in a hammock to your heart’s content.

What guests say:  “Steve and Nancy clearly know the Divine. This space they have created is nothing short of magic and a connection to the Creator. It was transcendental. Peaceful. Awe-Inspiring. The PERFECT retreat from busy city life. Every detail has been deeply well thought out.”

21. Geronimo Creek Retreat

Location:  Seguin, nr San Antonio

Geronimo Creek Retreat is less accommodation and more experience.

You have Getaway Cabins, Treehouses, and Teepees to choose from, each as beautiful as the last, but the real reason you stay here is for the site itself.

The creek is a spring-fed, swimming, and fishing oasis, where you can paddleboard, kayak, rope swing, and swim to your heart’s content.

This place will turn you into a kid again in the best way possible!

The common area also benefits from a large TV, ping pong table, foosball table, and hot tub, so there’s no chance of anyone getting bored here.

Bring on the ultimate summer camp!

What guests say:  “This was the best family/friends vacation we’ve ever had. Not a single complaint from any of us about the rooms. They were all very clean, cool, and well-appointed with all the supplies we needed. Very boutique style. The creek was perfect. I thought they may have photo-shopped the water color online but they did not! It’s that pretty.”

22. The Cedars Ranch Yurt

interior-of-the-cedars-ranch-luxury-eco-yurt-glamping-texas

Price per night:  From $225 for 4 people

The Cedars Ranch Yurt is one of the most spacious yurts I’ve ever seen, so it’s no surprise that it’s earned its place on this list of the best glamping spots in Texas.

Nestled among twenty acres of secluded live oak and cedar trees, the yurt is an ideal retreat for couples or small families.

The yurt is beautifully appointed with all the modern amenities you’d expect from a holiday home so you’ll be left wanting for nothing.

Some personal highlights include the full bath with a luxurious slipper tub, the restful library area, and the spacious decking outside.

What guests say:  “The eco-yurt was really lovely – the pictures didn’t do it justice! Marilyn greeted us with cookies, low-carb muffins (after asking about dietary restrictions), and a bottle of wine. The place was comfortable even in the scorching Texas summer, and we enjoyed several meals out on the deck watching the hummingbirds.”

 23. The Retreat on the Hill Stardome Suite

hozhoni-on-the-hill-bubble-dome-on-top-of-building

Price per night:  From $345 for 2 people

Location:  Cottonwood Shores, nr Austin

Yep, that’s right, Texas is home to not one but two bubble domes for you to enjoy the night skies from.

This time we have The Retreat on the Hill Stardome Suite , a unique bubble that’s perfectly perched 101 feet over Horseshoe Bay to enjoy some of the best views of any glamping site in Texas.

Its huge private deck not only enjoys incredible views but also an outdoor star-soaking tub.

The ultimate stargazing spot? Definitely!

However, if the Stardome Suite somehow isn’t up your street, the site is also home to a few safari tents too.

What guests say:  “Beautiful luxury camping experience. The views of the Austin hills and Horseshoe Creek are spectacular. They thought of everything from snacks to board games, wine, and even Alexa for some tunes or weather forecast. I definitely would recommend Hozhoni on the Hill to anyone that loves nature up-close and personal.”

24. Sinya Safari Tent

sinya-safari-tent-on-lone-man-creek-lit-up-at-night

Price per night:  From $365 for 2 people

Inspired by a life-changing journey to Africa, Sinya Safari Tent effortlessly brings a slice of Africa to Texas.

This is easily one of my favorite places to go glamping in Texas purely for how much it transports you out of the States.

I mean, Texas is great and all but if you could choose a vacation to Africa, I bet you would!

The tent is filled with all kinds of luxuries, from a king-size bed and a century-old clawfoot bathtub to thick, Turkish cotton towels and comfy spa bathrobes.

And luckily for you, the outside is just as, if not more, amazing with unparalleled views that you can enjoy from your private hot tub!

What guests say:   “It is impossible to describe in words how incredible this place is. There’s nothing quite like falling asleep to the sound and feel of the outdoors while sleeping in five-star accommodation. Or taking an afternoon nap on a hammock while birds are chirping around you. Or taking an outdoor shower underneath the stars and candlelight.”

25. Rancho Pillow Teepee and Shacks

exterior-of-the-teepee-at-rancho-pillow-on-sunny-day

Location:  Walhalla, nr La Grange

I don’t think any words will ever come close to doing Rancho Pillow justice.

This colorful twenty-acre ranch is eclectic, wonderful, and unlike anything you’ve ever seen before!

Whether it’s an air-conditioned teepee (yes, that’s apparently a thing) or a tin-roofed “Love Shack” casita, the glamping offerings are nothing short of quirky either.

From a heated saltwater wading pool to a treehouse for the little ones to the beautiful Bathhouse, there’s so much to discover in this whimsical wonderland.

What guests say:  “Staying at Rancho Pillow is an event. The grounds are artistic and well kept with lovely views and humor thrown in. We stayed in the TeePee which was on my bucket list. It’s air-conditioned has a king-sized bed and is luxurious and eclectic. Rancho exceeded my expectations in every way.”

Booking a stay at Savannah’s Meadow Treehouses may well feel like winning the lottery because it’s always booked up years in advance.

But this only goes to show just how special a stay here is.

There are two treehouses to choose from, both of which are simple yet cozy, with amazing views to match.

Both treehouses are fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a self-catering break so you’ll feel right at home straight away.

However, if you want to make your vacation extra special, make sure you book a stay in Majestic Oak for your own private hot tub!

What guests say:  “If I could, I would give this beautiful place more than five stars. It exceeded our expectations. Ron and Susan are such wonderful hosts and took the time to show us around the place. Pictures do not do it justice. We will definitely be back.”

Nestled in the outskirts of Austin, The Reserve at Green Leaf is just close enough for an urban adventure but far enough away for a relaxing rural retreat.

The site is home to four uniquely crafted yurts that are very similar but with subtle differences that set them apart.

However, their beautiful interiors aren’t the only reason to stay here.

All the yurts are set against a stunning backdrop with plenty of natural spaces for you to unwind, such as the fire pit, hot tub, and spots for you to kayak and hike.

What guests say:  “Our first yurt stay at The Reserve won’t be our last! Stylish and comfortable, the yurts are a quiet retreat in the woods that far exceed expectations. If you’re looking for a restful getaway, this is it!”

28. The Belle Plain Caboose Train

the-belle-plain-caboose-train-at-sunset-glamping-texas

Location:  Baird, nr Abilene

The Belle Plain Caboose Train is easily one of the more unique glamping offerings in Texas

. And it’s also one of the best glamping sites in Texas for incredible views.

Basically, the number of reasons to book a stay here is endless!

The train itself is ridiculously spacious and houses a full kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom, all of which are full of charm and character.

However, I have to say my favorite thing about the train is its back garden and patio that extend all the way to the lake fountain.

Take your complimentary bottle of champagne down to the patio and enjoy one of the best sunsets of your life!

What guests say:   “If I could give this place ten stars I would, by far the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in. The scenery is beautiful as well as the caboose. It was extremely clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. When they tell you the kitchen is stocked they mean it! We spent most of our time fishing and then relaxing.”

yurt-at-lucky-arrow-retreat-glamping-texas

Their ten heated and air-conditioned yurts comprise a queen-size bed, a coffee maker, a record player, and a stargazing dome window, with a separate Bath House just around the corner.

However, if you fancy treating yourself to a bit of added luxury, you can opt for a cabin instead of a yurt.

And why shouldn’t you feel like a queen for the night? You deserve it!

What guests say:  “The  yurt is big and beautifully designed. The A/C worked well, the record player had some great albums, and the map and water were super helpful. The design of the place is really gorgeous. They have a live band playing next to the pool and it was a dream!”

exterior-of-romantic-red-cabin-at-living-waters-on-lake-travis

Price per night:  From $155 for 2 people

Location:  Mouth of Pedernales, nr Austin

This romantic lakeside retreat is home to an array of different accommodation options that you and your partner will love!

Living Waters has two glamping tents, three eco-cabins, and a larger main house for those who aren’t ready to give glamping a go yet.

I can’t decide whether my favorite of the lot is Romantic Red or The Loft.

The former benefits from a detached master bath with a private wine deck, while the latter is a seriously funky space with a mezzanine level.

But no matter which one you go for, they all enjoy private access to a gorgeous lake with an air-conditioned floating cabin.

What guests say:  “From the moment we stepped onto the property, my partner and I both felt so calm and welcomed by the land. There were so many funky and beautiful things to take in…the design of the cabins, main house, curving wall, trees, and deer – did I mention that beautiful lake? We enjoyed waking up in the morning and taking a cup of tea down to the lake.”

32. Son’s Island Tents

two-double-beds-in-tent-in-forest-on-sons-island

Son’s Island is one of those places that you visit for the experience, rather than the accommodation.

Admittedly, their tents are just pre-erected tents with proper beds, but when there’s so much to see and do on-site, you won’t be concerned about where you’re resting your head that night.

To access this private tropical hideaway, you drive across a 100-foot wooden bridge.

And once you’re safely on the island, you can go kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, fishing, and so much more.

Or maybe you just want to relax!

In this case, rent out a lakeside cabana for the day and spend your day barbequing and relaxing in a hammock.

Talk about idyllic!

What guests say:  “My experience was beyond expectation. From check-in to check-out, everything was in order. The facility is complete with everything that we could do to enjoy a full day… the furnished cabana with ceiling fan and electrical hook-ups, picnic table with benches, grill, a nice size tent.”

33. Tipis on the Guadalupe

two-tipis-on-the-guadalupe-in-field

Tipis on the Guadalupe is easily one of my favorite glamping spots in Texas.

When you think of tipis, you may think of something quite small, but these impressively large tipis sleep up to six guests across three cozy queen beds.

Each unit is furnished with Aztec touches throughout to add authenticity, and they all benefit from air-conditioning, heating, Wi-Fi, and a Smart TV.

And as if that wasn’t already enough, each unit also comes with its own private bath for you to enjoy throughout your stay!

What guests say:  “This place is amazing! We had so much fun. The tipis are way bigger than you would imagine, they were clean, and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were immaculate. The river is a short distance walk down, it was a great area. My kids loved the treehouse, it had games, etc.”

34. Camp Comfort Airstream and Cabins

exterior-of-camp-comfort-bambi-airstream-in-evening

Price per night:  From $175 for 2 people

Location:  Comfort, nr San Antonio

Comfort’s the name and comfort’s the game at Camp Comfort , one of my all-time favorite places to go glamping in Texas.

Built all the way back in 1860, this historic bowling alley has been lovingly converted into a boutique bed and breakfast for you to enjoy today!

However, if you want to go glamping, you’ll have to book a stay in one of their bright and beautiful freestanding cabins.

Or if you want to take glamping to the next level, you can opt instead for a stay in their sleek, silver 22′ airstream!

Either way, I can guarantee you won’t be able to get enough of their interiors.

What guests say:   “We had a magical experience. We met couples and families, roasted smores, lounged in the amazing air-jet bathtubs, explored the beautiful trees and creek, and slept like babies. There’s a large Social Hall if you need to do early morning work/yoga without waking up the rest of the family.”

Get ready for some great views!

What guests say:  “This is the most incredible getaway I’ve found so far in the hill country. The glamping tents look and feel like a five-star hotel. Very comfortable, lots of beautiful touches, your own campfire and picnic area outside.”

37. The Goat Shed Earth House

exterior-of-la-loma-del-chivo-the-goat-shed-glamping-texas

Price per night:  From $91 for 5 people

Location:  Marathon, nr Big Bend National Park

The Goat Shed Earth House has to be one of my favorite places to go glamping in Texas purely for how unique it is.

This colorful, eclectic artistic structure provides the perfect opportunity for you to destress and unwind from modern life.

The only thing you’ll have to worry about is what book out of their enormous collection you’ll want to dig into first.

The property is made from papercrete and other recycled materials and comprises a bedroom, living room, roof deck, an outdoor chiminea, and a separate outdoor kitchenette and bathroom.

What guests say:  “This enchantingly quirky place captured us from the moment we set foot on the property. The hosts were friendly and welcoming, and every corner contained a delightful surprise – a view of the sunset from the roof, an old bound volume of Oscar Wilde on the shelves, an unusual tchotchke from world travels.”

They’re all properly kitted out and include a deck with a Weber charcoal grill, propane fire pit, handmade custom table and benches, and a private entrance to their hiking trails.

On-site you’ll also find a pool, a restaurant and bar, a boutique shop, ponds and fishing, and lots of outdoor games!

How Do I Get There?

If you're coming from Austin, please see the directions below:

  • Take Highway TX-71 East/US-290
  • Continue on TX-71 East – you’ll pass the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
  • Merge onto TX-130 S – approximately 31 miles
  • Take the Exit toward TX-80S – 0.3 miles
  • Turn left onto TX-80S – 2.1 miles
  • Turn right onto FM 20 W/State Park Rd – you’ll see a Stripes gas station and that is where you turn right
  • You’ll continue on FM 20 W/State Park Rd and you’ll cross the San Marcos River
  • On your left-hand side is a nice-looking gravel/dirt road with an iron gate. This is the gate to enter the property and is located between what looks like Sugar Cane. Wahwahtaysee Resort will have the gate open for you. Once you drive through the gate, continue about 500 feet on the gravel road where the road curves to the left through some trees. Just as you come out of the trees, you will see a smaller gravel road going off to the right. Take that right turn and drive down the smaller gravel road for a short distance and you will arrive at the safari tents.

Glamping in Texas: The 18 Best Spots to Relax & Embrace Nature

These modern, luxurious campsites and resorts in the Lone Star state offer a rejuvenating outdoor experience with the comforts of home

Combine the best parts of being inside—comfy bed, running water and real toilet, food that isn’t freeze-dried , etc—with the best parts of being outside—do we really need to elaborate?—add a luxe touch here and there and you’ll get glamping. The term is shorthand for “glamorous camping,” and its popularity has skyrocketed over the past decade, with lavish, palatial tent sites cropping up in well-known outdoor recreational areas around the world. Also referred to as “boutique camping,” think of glamping as a more elevated way to connect with nature in an open-air setting; one that doesn’t require guests to sacrifice comfort in the name of adventure. Glamping makes an ideal weekend getaway for both indoorsy folk giving the outdoors a try, and seasoned outdoors lovers looking to take a break from roughing it.

If a spacious canvas glamping tent on a wooden platform is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of glamping, you’re not wrong, but there’s so much more to it than just that. Luxurious tent sites have a surprisingly long history that dates all the way back to the 16th century when the residents weren’t weekend warriors looking to chill around a fire pit with BBQ and s’mores, but Earls and Dukes and other monarchs living in actual opulence. The trend continued on centuries later when during the 1920s it was popularized by wealthy Brits and Americans looking to experience a romanticized version of an African safari.

Modern-day glamping has fewer monarchs, is much more accessible, and boasts a much wider spectrum of associated outdoor experiences—though the classic canvas safari tent remains. Along with the addition of vintage vans and Airstream trailers rentals, bell tents, yurts , treehouses , and more. It’s become a creative way to bridge good design and the great outdoors. And for new outdoorists, a less intimidating, more comfortable way to spend time in nature (in an admittedly bougie setting) among adventure destinations, like Texas.

The Lone Star state is known for its iconic wide-open plains, deserts, and skies, but there’s more than just tumbleweeds, honky-tonk bars, horseback riding and long stretches of empty highway. Go glamping in Texas and head to the southwestern corner during spring, when you can avoid the heat and explore Big Bend National Park, where the Rio Grande river flows through hairpin turns carved into the limestone canyons. Or road trip up to 4,800 feet in the nearby high plains of Marfa, a quirky, remote town popularized by artist Donald Judd that remains rich with culture and interesting geology located in the Trans-Pecos region of Texas. The rolling grasslands of Hill Country is also a popular spot for outdoorists.

Texas glamping destinations from mid-October through November might even grant you the chance to see the fall foliage in Guadalupe National Park, which lies in North Texas near the border of New Mexico. Sensing a trend here? Shoulder seasons are the best time to go glamping in Texas, so you can experience the outdoors without the scorching heat.

Ready to pack your boots, bags, and head to glamp? The following are our top picks for the best Texas glamping options for your next weekend getaway.

The Best Glamping Resorts in the U.S.

Glamping resorts offer both adventure and luxury.

If you're enticed by the idea of camping but don't want to deal with the inevitable grunt work that comes with it, glamping (or glamorous camping) is the perfect compromise. Read on to discover the most unique glamping resorts in California, Florida, Tennessee and other destinations across the U.S.

The Resort at Paws Up: Greenough, Montana

There's glamping, and then there's glamping at The Resort at Paws Up . One of the pioneers of modern-day glamping, The Resort at Paws Up offers six exclusive glamping camps (with prices to match), each one offering a different experience. Solo travelers and couples will love the two-story Tree Haus at the resort's adults-only retreat, called the green o. North Bank Camp – with three-bedroom, two-bathroom tents – is ideal for large families. You can book an individual tent or, if traveling with extended family and/or friends, even an entire camp. Guests can even bring along a furry friend, as this resort is dog-friendly.

Glamping guests enjoy a dedicated camping butler and, because this is an all-inclusive resort , three gourmet meals with alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages daily. Select activities such as mountain biking and snow tubing are covered in nightly rates. For additional fees you can also take advantage of the many unique guided activities and excursions you don't find at most resorts, from snowmobiling to hot air balloon rides. On-site transportation and shuttle service to and from Missoula Montana Airport, about 35 miles away, are also included in your stay.

While the lodging and amenities make Paws Up one of the best glamping resorts in the U.S., it's the staff members who have earned this resort rave reviews from previous guests. The Resort at Paws Up offers glamping mid-May through mid-October, while the green o is available for stays year-round.

As KOA's first foray into glamping, Terramor Outdoor Resort offers luxury tent accommodations near Acadia National Park in Maine. All tents feature electricity, Wi-Fi, portable heaters and coolers plus other convenient amenities, though the types vary in capacity from two up to five guests and whether they have a bathroom. This family-friendly resort features an abundance of amenities that travelers love, including a pool and hot tub, lawn games, live entertainment, evening campfires, stargazing lectures, and an on-site restaurant and bar where guests can enjoy craft cocktails and regionally sourced beers. Pets are also welcome at Terramor, especially in the on-site dog park.

Terramor is a designated stop for the Island Explorer, a free shuttle service that transports visitors to Acadia National Park, downtown Bar Harbor and other areas of interest on Mount Desert Island. The Island Explorer operates seasonally, from mid-June to mid-October.

Backland: Williams, Arizona

Opened in 2022, Backland is a remote resort with four glamping options: Backland Suite, Grand Suite, Sky Suite and Grand Sky Suite. The latter two feature a view of the stars from a 16-foot skylight over the bed, but all four are fitted with panoramic windows for breathtaking views of the Arizona wilderness. These luxury tents accommodate up to either four or six guests, plus no more than two pets. Each features king-sized beds, a full en suite bathroom with a shower, luxury linens, electricity, automatic climate control, an outdoor patio, a coffee maker, a minifridge, housekeeping services and some toiletries.

Backland purposefully doesn't offer Wi-Fi in the tents – only at reception – as guests are encouraged to unplug during their stay. Instead of doomscrolling on social media, you can enjoy bird-watching, stargazing and roasting s'mores over a campfire. There's also a tented spa, a restaurant and a pond with a beach. Glampers at this resort say they appreciate the cozy accommodations and peaceful atmosphere.

Backland is located less than 15 miles from downtown Williams, Arizona, close to some of the best places to visit in Arizona , including Flagstaff (about 40 miles away), Grand Canyon National Park (less than 60 miles) and Sedona , which is a roughly 60-mile drive from the resort.

Klarhet, which means "clarity" in Swedish, aims to bring just that to its glamping guests. The intimate property is located on the shores of Lake Superior and surrounded by a regenerative food forest, where an assortment of edible plants and animals attempts to mimic natural ecosystems – and where guests are invited to take a tour.

Klarhet offers just four domes – Raidho, Dagaz, Laguz and Berkanan – which all bring the outdoors inside with stellar views of the night sky and lush greenery. Each dome is equipped with king- and queen-sized beds; sustainably sourced cotton bedding; a large fan; a toilet; a custom rainfall shower; Public Goods bath amenities; Turkish bath linens, bathrobes and slippers; and a yoga mat. Amenities at Klarhet include a communal fire pit, board games and snowshoes to use in the local state parks, where you can also hike. Recent guests praise everything about Klarhet, from the accommodations to the staff.

The Sunshine State is synonymous with theme parks and beaches , so you might be surprised to learn you can also go glamping in Florida.

At Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo near Kissimmee, you can spend the night in a variety of luxury glamping accommodations, each with a private bathroom and kitchenette: Choose one of the climate-controlled luxury tents or the Luxe Conestoga Wagon, which has space for up to six guests. Regular glamping tents with separate bathroom facilities are also available. Guests of all the glamping accommodations enjoy perks such as coffee and pastry deliveries each morning and access to a personal concierge; if you opt for one of the three luxury glamping options, another special amenity is a golf cart for roaming the property.

Not only is Westgate River Ranch considered a glamping resort, but it's also the largest dude ranch east of the Mississippi. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of this property's activities and amenities: airboat and swamp buggy rides, horseback riding, an archery range, a petting farm, a weekly rodeo, an on-site steakhouse and more. Resort activities, including VIP tickets to the rodeo, are covered in rates for glamping guests staying in one of the two luxe accommodations, making the experience nearly all-inclusive. Previous visitors agree this relaxed resort is a fun alternative to the nearby theme parks in Orlando .

Nestled beside the Gallatin Mountains, Bodhi Farms allows travelers to sustainably and authentically experience the beauty of Montana through immersive activities and amenities. The warmer months boast creekside yoga and spa services, farming projects such as gardening and caring for livestock, a wood-fired sauna, nightly campfires, and fly fishing both on- and off-site. Farm-to-table dining at the field kitchen restaurant – situated on an open-air patio during the summer – includes the opportunity to try the Cowboy Brunch. Complimentary breakfast is available to guests of the hotel's nine glamping tents, another highlight of this eco-resort .

Available for stays from May to October, each cone-shaped tent features either one king bed or two twin beds, plus plush pet beds for up two dogs. The accommodations are also equipped with a private porch, two lounge chairs, a hammock, plenty of natural light, and heaters and fans upon request. Luxurious bathrooms are shared yet still feel private, and Bodhi Farms provides eco-friendly toiletries and complimentary bathrobes.

Just south of Bozeman, Montana, Bodhi Farms' location makes a convenient base to visit some of the state's top attractions , including Big Sky Resort and Yellowstone National Park , one of the top-rated national parks in the U.S.

Address: 13624 S. Cottonwood Road, Bozeman, MT 59718

Named for its location on Table Rock Lake at Big Cedar Lodge (created by the founder of Bass Pro Shops), Camp Long Creek offers glamping near Branson, Missouri . Its glamping units bring wood floors and chandeliers into a canvas tent, with each offering an outdoor bathtub, a fire pit, a table and chairs, a small fridge and coffee maker, and sleeping accommodations for two. These tents are scattered around the property, so views range from the lake to the forest. All units are dog-friendly and feature a private bathroom.

When you're not white-knuckling the roller coasters at Silver Dollar City (considered one of the best amusement parks in the U.S. ) or uncovering history at the Titanic Museum Attraction, take time to enjoy the resort's activities such as golfing, hiking, or boating and fishing on the lake. Other amenities include pools and hot tubs, a fitness center, and a canteen with grab-and-go bites and beverages. Previous guests rave about the setting and conveniences of glamping at this resort.

Alila Ventana Big Sur: Big Sur, California

Glamping

Courtesy of Ventana Big Sur, An Alila Resort

There are few destinations in California that offer luxury in a place where you would otherwise have to rough it. In Big Sur , a region that is only accessible via one road and doesn't always offer electricity, travelers will find a limited selection of five-star accommodations – among them Alila Ventana Big Sur .

The resort offers safari-style tents in a 20-acre redwood canyon, all equipped with plush beds, electric lamps, instant hot and cold potable water with sinks, and power outlets with USB ports. Glampers can also make use of amenities for enjoying the outdoors, such as Adirondack chairs, wood-burning fire pits and picnic tables. Restrooms and showers are available at a shared, well-maintained bathhouse.

Glamping guests can purchase the Spa Alila Day Pass, which includes one 50-minute massage or facial, one poolside entree and one nonalcoholic beverage, plus full access to the meadow pool, infinity hot tub and sauna. You also have the option to enjoy fine dining at The Sur House on-site. Some parts of the Alila Ventana Big Sur grounds are reserved for resort guests only, so glampers will not have access to certain facilities.

Address: 48123 California state Route 1, Big Sur, CA 93920

Treebones Resort: Big Sur, California

If you want to glamp in Big Sur, you might also consider Treebones Resort, which offers yurts with king beds and modern furnishings, as well as accommodations you're not likely to find elsewhere. The Autonomous Camp Collection's twin units, which can best be described as a full apartment fit into a tent, take glamping to the next level; this solar-powered, upscale option is complete with a bedroom, en suite bathroom, lounge area and outdoor deck. For a more rustic but no less unique stay, the Human Nest campsite is exactly what it sounds like – meaning you'll need to bring your own bedding and tent for protection from the elements when you sleep on the futon pad inside this wood art.

Something else Treebones Resort has that you don't find at most glamping resorts? Sushi. The Wild Coast Sushi Bar features an omakase dining experience in which patrons sit face to face with the chef, who uses their reactions to craft the 14-course tasting menu. Previous guests say it's an absolute must when staying here. You can also dine at The Lodge Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and a three-course dinner.

Other on-site amenities include a massage studio and yoga. The rugged coastline views at Treebones Resort rival many in the area, and glampers may also choose to explore the beauty of Big Sur through guided excursions.

Courtesy of Sinya on Lone Man Creek

Experience the beauty – and the award-winning wineries – of Texas Hill Country at Sinya on Lone Man Creek, a property inspired by a trip to Tanzania and named after a baby elephant in Kenya. This glamping retreat is situated atop a ridge, making you feel as if you're in a treehouse overlooking the beautiful surrounding greenery and Lone Man Creek. The creek's name aptly sets the scene for this exclusive experience, since the property consists of only one tent – but it can accommodate two guests, so there's no need to be truly "lone" if you don't wish to be.

This singular tent is decked out in beautiful country-style furnishings and outfitted with a king-sized bed (not to mention goose-down pillows), a Nespresso coffee maker, a sofa, a kitchenette and a bathroom, which features a claw-foot tub, bathrobes and Turkish towels. Venture outside and you'll find the resort has five furnished outdoor spaces for lounging, including a deck with a hot tub and shower. Recent guests, many of whom visited with a romantic partner, appreciate the seclusion of this glamping resort.

The Ranch at Rock Creek: Philipsburg, Montana

Glamping

Courtesy of The Ranch at Rock Creek

This five-star dude ranch in western Montana, frequently lauded for providing one-of-a-kind travel experiences, also specializes in glamping. Like the rest of its property and offerings, The Ranch at Rock Creek takes its glamping to the next level.

Glamping accommodations start at nearly 800 square feet and are part-tent, part-cabin. With 10 such dwellings in four different styles – some of which are open year-round – options for amenities vary. Inside these "canvas cabins," you'll typically find spacious bedrooms, additional living areas, gas stoves, attached bathrooms, and outdoor spaces such as porches or decks. Guests can also sleep in a Conestoga wagon with a king bed and twin bunks.

What's more, glamping accommodations qualify for the resort's all-inclusive rate, which covers farm-to-table meals, drinks, transportation on the ranch and airport transfers, as well as resort activities like horseback riding and archery. Peak season at this property spans late May to early September, but the property is open year-round. The Ranch at Rock Creek exceeds expectations, according to previous guests.

Borealis Basecamp: Fairbanks, Alaska

Glamping

If you've ever dreamed of sleeping beneath the northern lights in Alaska , it's time to plan a stay at Borealis Basecamp. Located less than 30 miles north of Fairbanks , Borealis Basecamp unfurls across 100 acres and offers igloos and cubes in lieu of tents, further elevating the one-of-a-kind experience.

These igloos feature cozy beds, Wi-Fi access, private bathrooms with showers and hairdryers, free toiletries, and skylights so guests can fall asleep admiring the aurora borealis when visible. The cube accommodations feature most of the same amenities, but instead of skylights, guests enjoy floor-to-ceiling windows and "treehouse" beds with viewing windows just for kids, plus an en suite bathroom. Not surprisingly, recent guests say staying at Borealis Basecamp was one of the most unique experiences they've ever had.

Little Raccoon Key: Jekyll Island, Georgia

Glamping

Courtesy of Little Raccoon Key

Little Raccoon Key – a small, uninhabited island accessible by a short boat ride from Georgia 's Jekyll Island – stands out from most other glamping destinations in the U.S. for one reason: There's just one campsite available. Not only will you have the entire reef island to yourself, but you'll be pampered by staff from start to finish. In addition to your private-island accommodations and the short boat tour there that often passes dolphins, you can request chef-prepared meals, pre-arrival grocery delivery and a lesson on oyster reefs around the island at no extra cost.

Your campsite features most necessities, such as a luxury canvas tent, a memory foam mattress, a gas grill, a stove, a kettle, other cooking supplies, and an outdoor shower and toilet. You can also take advantage of the Adirondack chairs, board games and books. While Little Raccoon Key provides a cooler for ice, it's recommended to bring your own so you can store several days' worth of food, since there's no refrigerator. You also won't find running water or air conditioning at this solar-powered island camp, but you'll be provided with a battery-powered fan. Note that Little Raccoon Key requires a two-night minimum stay.

Firelight Camps: Ithaca, New York

Glamping

Sean Stalteri | Courtesy of Firelight Camps

Experience the natural beauty of upstate New York with a stay at Firelight Camps. This glamping site enjoys a scenic location in a wooded area that's not only minutes away from local state parks including Buttermilk Falls but also less than 4 miles south of Ithaca's popular Collegetown neighborhood, making this particular destination easier to reach than most.

Canvas drapes the natural wood beams of the tents, which come with either one king bed or two queens. Tents also feature hardwood floors, a private tented balcony complete with rocking chairs, lanterns with USB ports, and a writers desk and chair. Upgraded tents come with electricity, though it's important to note that none have private bathrooms; instead, there's a shared bathhouse with eco-friendly products.

Guests can also expect to enjoy artisanal spirits at the on-site bar as well as delicious (and complimentary) breakfast each morning, thanks to co-founder Emma Frisch, who was a top finalist on season 10 of "Food Network Star" and has her own cookbook. Previous guests praise the resort staff's hospitality.

Sandy Pines Campground: Kennebunkport, Maine

Glamping

Douglas Merriam | Courtesy of Sandy Pines Campground

Kennebunkport is known for its beaches and quaint downtown area, which often leaves the nearby green spaces overlooked by visitors. But Sandy Pines Campground offers travelers the chance to experience these underrated landscapes in Kennebunkport without sacrificing proximity to the water. Guests can choose from a variety of unique accommodation options, including Airstreams, Conestoga wagons, cottages, huts and traditional glamping tents.

The tents for couples are decorated to the nines – some with chandeliers – and outfitted with a king-sized bed, a seating area, a private deck, a mini-fridge, lighting, air conditioning and a small heater, and bath amenities. The family tent options have similar features but come with either a daybed in the main tent or a separate smaller tent with twin beds.

Guests can take advantage of glampground amenities such as bathhouses, a saltwater pool, the General Store and Snack Bar, laundry facilities, bike and water sports equipment rentals, and lots of activities for kids. Speaking of younger guests, previous visitors say Sandy Pines Campground is especially ideal for families.

Mendocino Grove: Mendocino, California

Glamping tents in Mendocino Grove.

Find a serene glamping experience in one of California's most breathtaking small towns . Mendocino Grove sits within a forest bluff adjacent to the town, affording spectacular views of the camp's towering trees and the coast.

Most glamping tents sleep two guests, but some sleep up to four or six. You'll also find some options that are dog-friendly. Beds vary in size and come with down comforters and wool blankets; the adult beds also feature heated mattress pads. All tents come equipped with fire pits, picnic tables and limited electricity for powering lamps (which have USB ports) as well as other approved devices including CPAP machines. Private decks with leather butterfly chairs complete the glamping accommodations.

Other on-site amenities include two shared bathhouses with organic products (plus a dog wash), hammocks, a bocce ball court and yoga. Enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and cocoa at The Meadow Commons, which also offers Wi-Fi and lends out books and games.

Huttopia: Multiple Locations

Interior of cabin at Huttopia.

What started as a small campsite in the French Alps in 1999 has since expanded to more than 60 locations across three continents, including five U.S. sites in California, upstate New York, southern Maine and New Hampshire's White Mountains. Huttopia's goal is to provide travelers with comforts that go above traditional camping but aren't so comfortable that you'll stay in your tent rather than explore the beautiful surroundings of its properties.

All tents and cabins offer plush beds and electricity, while some have private bathrooms, kitchenettes or kitchens, and decks. Shared bathhouses are available to guests who don't have private toilets and showers. The company's newest U.S. location, Huttopia Wine Country, opened in 2023 in partnership with Northern California's Six Sigma Ranch and Winery. Overlooking the region's rolling vineyard hills, it features a swimming pool as well as French camping cuisine – from espresso to crepes to brick-oven pizza – at its on-site Café-Bistro.

AutoCamp: Multiple Locations

Exterior shot of van and grounds at AutoCamp.

Matt Kisiday | Courtesy of AutoCamp

If your idea of glamping is spending the night in an RV – but you don't have the budget or patience to buy one – it's time to explore AutoCamp. This glamping resort company specializes in Airstream accommodations, with six locations (and counting) ranging from national parks to beaches. Airstream amenities vary slightly by location, but you can expect plush beds (including dog beds upon request), spa-inspired bathrooms, heating and air conditioning, basic cookware, and fire pits with grills.

Families love the BaseCamp Mini Suites – an Airstream with an adjacent tent for kids – available seasonally at select resorts; another unique lodging option at some sites is the BaseCamp Suite, which is part-Airstream, part-tent. All locations offer traditional standalone glamping tents as well as accessible accommodation options.

Like the accommodations, some of the on-site programming varies by resort. For instance, AutoCamp Yosemite and AutoCamp Zion (the newest property) have pools, while the Cape Cod location has a playground. But all of AutoCamp's outposts are dog-friendly and offer complimentary cruiser bikes (first come, first served), Wi-Fi and coffee; they also promise on-site stores for provisions, including wine and beer, and an experience you won't soon forget.

Lakedale: San Juan Island, Washington

Off the coast of Washington state, Lakedale offers year-round glamping on San Juan Island, a picturesque place that can only be accessed by ferry or floatplane. Here, year-round glamping accommodations consist of yurts. Each comes with a king bed, full-sized sleeper sofa, an en suite bathroom, a wet bar, a fridge, a flat-screen TV, a skylight, seating indoors and outside, and private decks with hot tubs.

In the summer months, travelers also have the option to glamp in a canvas cabin or cottage, ideal for families with space for up to six guests. Complimentary on-site activities at Lakedale include lawn games, bike rentals and water sports on the resort's three spring-water lakes.

The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls: Logan, Ohio

Courtesy of The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls

Surrounded by the lush forests of Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is one of the most romantic getaways in Ohio . Choose from fully equipped cabins and cottages (some of which are pet-friendly) as well as yurts and geodomes. Each insulated yurt has a king bed or two twin beds, a full bathroom, a kitchenette that includes a gas log stove and microwave, a wood deck, and rocking chairs. The geodomes, outfitted with one king bed, have similar amenities to the yurts, plus a dining table and sofa.

All guests have access to a full-service spa and a restaurant, lauded by guests for its food (which includes complimentary breakfast); both are located in 1840s-style log cabins. Of course, you'll also find outdoor activities galore, from hiking to stargazing at nearby John Glenn Astronomy Park, named for the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth.

The Vintages Trailer Resort: Dayton, Oregon

Courtesy of The Vintages Trailer Resort

The Vintages Trailer Resort offers 36 trailers in a variety of styles, nine of which welcome dogs and all of which make the perfect home base for those exploring Oregon's Willamette Valley, otherwise known as Oregon wine country. Trailer styles and designs vary, but all offer comfortable beds, bathrooms – or at the very least toilets – air conditioning and heating, and kitchenettes or outdoor grills. Separate shower facilities are also available. Pro tip: Book the 1956 Spartan Royal Mansion trailer in the warmer months to stargaze from an open-air soaker tub.

The on-site amenities at The Vintages Trailer Resort are almost as good as the trailers themselves – think: a seasonal swimming pool, fire pits, a general store and complimentary cruiser bikes for enjoying Dayton, the gateway to several local vineyards. Even better is the staff, whom previous guests praise in their glowing reviews of the resort.
