travel quiz questions

I’ve always loved a good pub quiz, but recently I’ve been doing about 3 quizzes a week. Once thing I’ve quickly learned is I’m quite good at general knowledge but I really know my travel trivia questions. Whenever there’s a travel round my eyes light up.

I always feel that being a travel blogger I’ve got a bit of an unfair advantage when it comes to travel trivia, but hey, I’m not complaining. One of the reasons I love travelling so much is learning about different cultures and societies. I’ve always said travelling is the best education in the world because you just learn so much.

While I’ve been locked up inside I wanted to come up with these travel quiz questions and answers to test your world knowledge.

If you fancy hosting your own virtual quiz then hopefully you can use some of these questions. First of all, let’s see how many you can get right!

52 out of 55. Decent quiz, I enjoyed that. Thought the Hell pit was in Uzbekistan for some reason. I thought the island of spice was Cuba… Idiot Knew Callanish was Scottish but answered as Ireland when doing the quiz.

That’s a great effort Craig, well done!

I didn’t do too well, but enjoyed it a lot. Just one small point: Germany’s flag is made up of the colours red, black and gold, not yellow. It dates back to the Prussian resistance against Napoleonic rule. Volunteer soldiers wore black uniforms with red buttons and golden trimmings. The colours became a symbol of freedom and nation. Thanks for the great quiz.

Thanks for the comment Jean. I’m glad you enjoyed the quiz, and it’s always good to have a bit more background information on Germany!

@Jean, Good photograph took. Thank you.

That was really fun idea. Although I didn’t do well on your test but it was actually really fun to learn new things about the world.

Hope to see your coming blog. Thanks for the post.

It’s funny because Spain is my favorite country in the world I go there almost every weekend!! I enjoyed the Quiz.

Travel quizzes are such fun! According to this I’m supposed to be headed off to the wilds of Africa! I’ve only been there once and for way too short of a time. I’d love to see more. Maybe I should take the quiz’ advice?

OMG! Loved this quiz! I got Japan and that is one of my favorite destinations so the quiz was spot on! MY daughter loves Japan too as she loves Japanese cuisine and could seriously have sushi train every single day and its so catered for kids with all their cute toys.

Whoooo i got Namibia. I have never been anywhere in Africa. Maybe this is a sign a should consider it has my next trip 😉 Thanks fpr this fun quiz

Wow, I took the quiz, and it was fantastic. I should travel to Namibia according the result, but I don’t where was this place exactly located in the Map. It actually gets me curious and I should have a further research about Namibia and hopefully I can get there soon, If I get the chance. This is so cool actually, I find it very impressive. Thank you so much for this.

That was a fun quiz. I would never have thought of Kazakhstan for us but it isn’t bad. Thanks for pulling this together.

My result is Namibia, and I am planning a 3 months trip to Africa from September. It was a lot of fun answering the questions!

Got US West Coast RV run. Guess what? I did the whole US for 8 years!!!

How fun! Apparently, I need to go to Thailand 🙂 Never a bad idea!

Wow, this was so much fun. I tried twice with different options apparently I am even confused between choices in the same section lol.

Great quiz! Seems like I’m heading to Spain, but that’s just fine – I like Spain. Looking forward to some tapas and sangria.

There were a couple of questions that I answered with one of the possibilities although the others would have been just as suitable. However, the result – which is Thailand – is great! I had a great time in Thailand – much better than expected – and I intend to go back as soon as my daughter is ready to come with me (for – not strictly – once in my life no solo travel….)

I got Thailand, which is one of my favourite places ever!! Awesome quiz, it’s fun to see where you might get and how that lines up with where you’ve been!

What a great little travel quiz, I got Japan which is a place I really really want to go to. I did have more than one answer but went with my gut instead but it seemed to work. I will have to let you know when I am going to Japan. Now I must book that ticket

Awesome post!!! Really great. I got Thailand! I already visited this country and i loved it.

Definitely got me right with Spain 🙂

I took the quiz and it did absolutely nothing to help me. Says I should go to Cali. WTH! I live across the Colorado River from Cali, have ZERO desire to go there. How can they ask questions on a passport and suggest something like California. (eyeroll)

where should I travel quiz

Are you already starting to count down the days of your vacation? You’re excited about starting your holiday break, but unfortunately, you still don’t know where exactly you should go. In this ‘Where should I travel quiz,’ we will help you choose a convenient place! The solution to the nagging question will also be given to those planning a spontaneous trip. You will find out where you should travel this time by answering the questions! The world is so vast that we will find the perfect location to meet your travel requirements! With this quiz, you won’t have to put in extra effort to plan your vacation!

Several very important elements need to be determined before any trip. We’ll touch on each of them briefly so you’ll know exactly how you want your trip to go!

Answer A Few Quiz Questions To Know Where You Should Travel

To begin with, you need to consider what mode of transportation you would like to travel by. You have many options to choose from. It can be by bus, train, car, ship, or plane.

Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages. Suppose you want to be able to enjoy great views while on the road, bet on the bus or train. Passing through various terrains, you will have time to admire the magnificent landscapes and smaller and more major towns, and at the same time, you will have time for incredible relaxation. This form of travel is much cheaper than traveling by car.

If you care about time, traveling by car will be ideal. In this form of transportation, it is a good idea to have a substitute to replace you while driving, if necessary. A distant trip can prove quite tiring, so a break from driving may do you good!

An airplane is the fastest form of transportation; with it, distant destinations turn out to be within reach! You have to reckon with the fact that the cost will undoubtedly be much higher than when using other means of transportation. For this, the views during the trip are sure to be stunning! So where should you travel?

Before  choosing a travel destination , decide whether you are going exclusively alone, with a partner, friends, or family. Each of these trips will be different from the others. It would be best if you were careful when choosing a location to match it to the nature of the trip properly. Are you looking for a place to settle down in retirement, or are you more interested in a few days’ trip? If you have a blissful retirement getaway in mind, try our  Where Should I Retire Quiz .

If you are going for two, it might be a good idea to stay in a lovely place by a lake, where you can go for romantic walks. It is also possible that you are quite a partying couple and it will suit you better to relax in a big city, where there are always some attractions.

Now we will suggest where to go for a family trip. The best idea will be a quiet town by the sea. Depending on your plans, some of you will be able to spend your time basking on the beach by the sea itself, and the rest of you can take advantage of the opportunities the city offers. Travel Bucket List Quiz: Where Should You Travel Next?

' src=

Are you struggling to decide where to travel next? Take this travel bucket list quiz to be matched with the perfect vacation destination based on your travel style, preferences, and interests.

How to Build a Complete Travel Bucket List

Creating a luxury travel bucket list can be an exciting but overwhelming process. Here are the steps to help you curate a list of dream destinations and experiences:

1. Define Your Travel Preferences:

Identify your travel style, whether it’s cultural exploration, adventure, relaxation, or a mix of these elements.

Consider your preferred accommodation types, such as luxury resorts, boutique hotels, or private villas.

2. Research Dream Destinations:

Explore travel magazines, blogs, and social media to discover luxurious destinations that align with your interests.

Also, use your results of this travel bucket list quiz to get some ideas.

3. Divide Your List into Categories:

Categorize your bucket list into different types of experiences, such as cultural immersion, adventure travel, beach retreats, or gourmet dining. This helps diversify your list and helps spark new ideas.

4. Create a Long List:

Begin by listing all the destinations and experiences that catch your eye. Don’t limit yourself at this stage; you can always refine your list later.

5. Prioritize Your List:

Rank your destinations and experiences based on your personal preferences, time constraints, and any other factors that are important to you.

6. Create a Timeline:

Establish a realistic timeline for accomplishing items on your bucket list. This can help you prioritize and plan your luxury travel experiences over the coming years.

7. Stay Open to New Opportunities:

Remain flexible and open to new opportunities that may arise. Your interests and preferences may evolve, so be willing to adjust your luxury travel bucket list accordingly.

Remember, creating a luxury travel bucket list is a dynamic process. As you explore and experience new destinations, your list may evolve, providing you with a lifetime of luxurious adventures.

Here’s my current travel bucket list for some inspiration!

How to Afford These Bucket-List Vacations

White Ford E150 Near Fiat Doblo Under a Cloudy Sky

Affording luxury vacations may seem challenging, but with strategic planning and financial discipline, you can make your dream trips a reality.

Here are four tips to help you afford luxury vacations:

1. Create a Dedicated Travel Fund:

Establish a separate savings account specifically for your travel goals. Regularly contribute to this fund, treating it as a non-negotiable part of your budget.

Automate transfers to ensure consistent savings over time. This dedicated fund will accumulate, allowing you to finance luxurious vacations without affecting your day-to-day expenses.

2. Prioritize and Budget Smartly:

Identify your spending priorities and allocate resources accordingly. Evaluate your current lifestyle and identify areas where you can cut back or make adjustments to redirect funds towards travel.

This might include reducing discretionary spending, cooking at home more often, or finding more cost-effective alternatives for certain expenses.

By budgeting wisely, you can allocate more funds to your travel goals.

3. Take Advantage of Rewards Programs and Deals:

Leverage travel rewards programs , credit card points, and loyalty programs to maximize your travel budget.

Many credit cards offer travel-specific rewards, including airline miles, hotel points , and cash back on travel expenses.

Additionally, keep an eye out for exclusive deals and promotions on luxury accommodations and experiences.

Being strategic with your rewards and taking advantage of discounts can significantly lower the overall cost of your luxury vacations.

4. Travel in the Shoulder Season

You can save a ton of money by visiting your bucket list travel destinations during the shoulder season.

Shoulder season is defined as the time immediately before or after the prime time to visit.

Traveling during this time is often less expensive than peak season, and there are smaller crowds.

Maximizing PTO to Travel

White Jet on Black Tarmac

Another key to checking vacations off of your travel wish list is finding enough time off work. As someone who loves to travel, but has a full time job, I’m very familiar with this struggle.

Here are some tips for optimizing your paid time off work:

1. Combine PTO with Holidays and Weekends: Strategically plan your time off around public holidays or weekends to create extended breaks without using too many vacation days.

For example, if a public holiday falls on a Friday or Monday, take the adjacent day off to enjoy a four-day weekend.

2. Batch Your Time Off: Consider taking longer breaks by grouping your PTO days together. By strategically selecting consecutive days off, you can create extended vacations without using all your allotted vacation time at once.

3. Take Half-Days: Instead of using a full day of PTO, consider taking a half-day. I often use half-days for afternoon flights to get to a destination without burning a full 8 hours.

4. Explore Flexible Work Arrangements: If your workplace allows it, explore flexible work arrangements such as compressed workweeks or remote work.

This can give you the flexibility to create long weekends or schedule time off without compromising your overall productivity.

The newer, the better: How wheelchair users can travel smoothly

tourist or traveller quiz

Chris Ricci can walk only short distances at a time, but he has traveled the world on his scooter.

The 57-year-old U.S. Army veteran has limited mobility stemming from a foot injury he sustained in the 1980s and related complications has found cruises an accessible way to explore destinations like Alaska or the Caribbean. Just this month, he, his wife and friends took a week-long Royal Caribbean International cruise to Belize, Honduras and Mexico.

Ricci, who is based in Lakeland, Florida, simply had to drive to Tampa to board the Enchantment of the Seas. “I think it’s pretty easy,” he told USA TODAY. They booked an accessible stateroom for the first time, too.

“It was really big,” said Ricci, who chronicles his cruises and other travels on his YouTube channel, Scootin Around the World.  “I had no problem getting the scooter into the room.”

Cruise ships can offer guests who use mobility devices an accessible, streamlined way to travel. But some extra planning can go a long way toward ensuring the trip goes smoothly. Here’s what to know.

How this adult-only cruise line integrated accessibility into its experiences

Do cruise ships have accessible staterooms for mobility devices?

Cruise lines do offer accessible staterooms, but they’re not all the same. “Make sure that you have the accessible room that's best for you,” said Joy Burns, organization and PR manager at accessible travel booking platform Wheel the World .

For instance, some staterooms may be better suited to motorized wheelchair users, but the setup may not be conducive for passengers who use other kinds of devices, according to her husband, Bert, who has been paralyzed since 1982 and has taken more than 20 cruises.

“If I got a wheelchair-accessible room that's made for a power wheelchair with a Hoyer lift, the bed’s up real high,” he said. “I can’t transfer with a high bed. I use a manual wheelchair, so I’m down low.”

Standard staterooms may also be able to accommodate mobility devices, but guests should familiarize themselves with cruise lines’ requirements.

Passengers booking a standard cabin on Carnival Cruise Line ships must have devices that can fit through a 22-inch-wide doorway, according to its website . The devices must also fold and collapse to allow for safe exit from the room (passengers cannot store mobility devices in corridors or public spaces).

“Guests who bring scooters that are larger than 21" (53.34 cm) wide, or travel with multiple scooters in the same stateroom, must purchase a fully accessible stateroom with a wider doorway (32”, 81.3 cm), or rent a smaller scooter appropriately suited for their stateroom,” the line said on its website. “Guests may be required to have their scooters sized at the time of check-in to ensure it fits in the stateroom.”

Major cruise lines typically have accessibility departments that can help guests navigate the process, according to Sylvia Longmire, an accessible travel writer who runs the blog and travel brand Spin the Globe .

“Talk to the accessibility department to ask the questions and let them know what kind of equipment you're bringing if you're bringing your own stuff,” said Longmire, who has multiple sclerosis and has taken over 30 cruises, most of which have been with a scooter or wheelchair. “Let them know what your ability or disability is, what your level is, what your accessibility requirements are. And that way, they can tell you what kind of cabin you might need, what location, (information) about the ship, and everything before you even call to make the reservation.”

For those booking through a travel agent, she said she “highly” recommends working with someone who has a disability or is an expert in accessible travel.

What cruises are best for guests with mobility devices?

Some destinations may also be better suited to guests with mobility devices than others.

Once, during a New Zealand cruise, the Burnses’ ship hit some rough water, causing Bert to roll out of the casino and crash into the bar (though no one was hurt). Joy recommended researching the conditions of the seas. ( Click here for USA TODAY’S guide to the best times to cruise by region.)

She added that expedition cruises , which often feature activities that require guests to get on and off Zodiac boats, may not be as accessible.

What cruise ship is best for guests with mobility devices?

New ships tend to have more features that can make a trip easier for guests with mobility devices, said the Burnses and Longmire. Those include automatic sliding doors in public spaces, stateroom locks that allow passengers to wave their key to open the door and pool lifts.

“The newer the ship, the better the accessibility,” said Longmire.

Can I get a mobility device through a cruise line?

Guests can arrange to rent mobility devices through vendors like Scootaround or Special Needs at Sea (Longmire is a contract employee for Scootaround).

Rentals may also be available at the cruise terminal, and some lines have a limited number of scooters and wheelchairs available on the ship, according to Longmire. She estimated rentals can run from roughly $80 to $250 depending on the type of equipment, the length of time guests need it and other factors.

Do cruise lines have accessible excursions?

Yes, but options may be limited. Joy said accessible shore excursions available through cruise lines are “few and far between,” and she and Bert have taken cruises where there were none available through the cruise line at all.

Longmire noted that “cruise lines are entirely dependent on the availability of excursions with whoever they're contracting with.” If a given destination doesn’t have wheelchair taxis, for example, that limits cruise lines’ offerings.

Are there blind scuba divers? Here's the accessible way anyone can explore the ocean

When they are available through the line, Longmire said many of them are what she calls windshield tours – bus tours with a group of other passengers that might include one or two 15-minute stops to take photos. “And the rest of it is just seeing everything out the window,” she said.

However, she added that cruise lines “get a little bit better” each year about offering those.

Joy said passengers can also book accessible shore excursions through companies like Wheel the World. Longmire has had luck booking shuttles and tours directly through providers in various ports as well, though guests should take care to be back in time before the ship leaves.

Are tender ports accessible?

When it comes to accessibility at tender ports – where guests have to take a small vessel from the ship to shore – Longmire said it’s “not very black and white.” Cruise ships may let guests board tenders and some have technology to help passengers with wheelchairs do so, but the port’s capabilities may be different.

“Just because you're able to get from the ship to the tender doesn't mean that you'll be able to get from the tender to the dock,” said Longmire.

Rules may differ as well, with some lines allowing guests in manual wheelchairs to use tenders but prohibiting motorized devices. She recommended checking with the accessibility department about those policies.

The Burnses, for their part, have generally found tender ports to be inaccessible, and Joy suggested travelers review itineraries to see how many they include.

Overall, Longmire said her experience on cruises has been “really good,” both for their accessibility and convenience (you can visit multiple places but unpack once, for instance). “I always recommend to wheelchair users for their first travel experience, like, if you don't get seasick and you’re okay with cruises, a cruise is the way to go.”

"This year’s data shows the strong interest in international destinations from our customers with searches to these top 10 cities up more than 150% compared to last year," the spokesperson said.

Although a high percentage, the number is down 3% from summer 2023.

Travel experts also noted that nearly 52% of Americans will fly to their destination, but 75% of Americans will plan at least one road trip as well.

Automatic Refunds and No More Hidden Fees: D.O.T. Sets New Rules for Airlines

The Transportation Department issued new requirements on refunds when flights are canceled or delayed and on revealing “junk” fees before booking. Here’s what passengers can expect.

A blue airport screen showing extensive cancellations and delays is shown in close up with a man standing in front of it.

By Christine Chung

The Transportation Department on Wednesday announced new rules taking aim at two of the most difficult and annoying issues in air travel: obtaining refunds and encountering surprise fees late in the booking process.

“Passengers deserve to know upfront what costs they are facing and should get their money back when an airline owes them — without having to ask,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in a statement, adding that the changes would not only save passengers “time and money,” but also prevent headaches.

The department’s new rules, Mr. Buttigieg said, will hold airlines to clear and consistent standards when they cancel, delay or substantially change flights, and require automatic refunds to be issued within weeks. They will also require them to reveal all fees before a ticket is purchased.

Airlines for America , a trade group representing the country’s largest air carriers, said in a statement that its airlines “abide by and frequently exceed” D.O.T. consumer protection regulations.

Passenger advocates welcomed the new steps.

Tomasz Pawliszyn, the chief executive of AirHelp, a Berlin-based company that assists passengers with airline claims, called it a “massive step forward and huge improvement in consumer rights and protection” that brings the United States closer to global standards in passenger rights.

Here’s what we know about the D.O.T.’s new rules, which will begin to go into effect in October.

There’s now one definition for a “significant” delay.

Until now, airlines have been allowed to set their own definition for a “significant” delay and compensation has varied by carrier . Now, according to the D.O.T., there will be one standard: when departure or arrival is delayed by three hours for domestic flights and six hours for international flights.

Passengers will get prompt refunds for cancellations or significant changes for flights and delayed bags, for any reason.

When things go wrong, getting compensation from an airline has often required establishing a cumbersome paper trail or spending untold hours on the phone. Under the new rules, refunds will be automatic, without passengers having to request them. Refunds will be made in full, excepting the value of any transportation already used. Airlines and ticket agents must provide refunds in the original form of payment, whether by cash, credit card or airline miles. Refunds are due within seven days for credit card purchases and within 20 days for other payments.

Passengers with other flight disruptions, such as being downgraded to a lower service class, are also entitled to refunds.

The list of significant changes for which passengers can get their money back also includes: departure or arrival from an airport different from the one booked; connections at different airports or flights on planes that are less accessible to a person with a disability; an increase in the number of scheduled connections. Also, passengers who pay for services like Wi-Fi or seat selection that are then unavailable will be refunded any fees.

Airlines must give travel vouchers or credits to ticketed passengers unable to fly because of government restrictions or a doctor’s orders.

The vouchers or credits will be transferable and can be used for at least five years after the date they were issued.

Fees for checked baggage and modifying a reservation must be disclosed upfront.

Airlines and ticket agents are now required to display any extra fees for things like checking bags or seat selection clearly and individually before a ticket purchase. They will also need to outline the airline’s policies on baggage, cancellations and changing flights before a customer purchases a ticket.

The rules, which apply to all flights on domestic airlines and flights to and from the United States operated by foreign airlines, have varying start dates.

For example, automatic refunds must be instituted by the airlines within six months. But carriers have a year before they’re required to issue travel vouchers and credits for passengers advised by a medical professional not to fly.

Arnaud Lagardère

Arnaud Lagardère , head of Vivendi -owned French publishing and travel retail giant Lagardère Group , has been forced to resign as CEO of the company following his indictment related to accusations of embezzlement.

“This indictment essentially concerns facts relating to personal companies wholly owned by Arnaud Lagardère and not involving any Lagardère group companies,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

News of the forced resignation followed reports on Monday that Lagardère had been questioned by a Paris judge in relation to accusations of embezzlement.

The Lagardère Group, which was founded by Lagardère’s father Jean-Luc Lagardère in 1992, is home to publishing giant Lagardère Publishing and Lagardère Travel Retail. Its assets also include Paris Match and Le Journal du Dimanche and top radio stations Europe 1.

Vivendi took full control of the Lagardère Group in November 2023 following approval from European Commission, under its EU merger legislation,in return for selling publishing assets Editis and Gala magazine, which was part of its Prisma Media subsidiary.

Lagardère was retained as CEO of the group.
