Tickets for the U.S. shows will go on sale Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. local time (save for the final show in Atlanta, which go on sale at 9 a.m. ET). A series of presales will begin, however, on Nov. 29. Full information is available on Plant and Krauss’ website .

The album arrives 13 years after their surprise 2007 hit, Raising Sand , which went on to win five Grammys, including Album of the Year. Raise the Roof was produced by T-Bone Burnett (who also worked on Raising Sand ), and it primarily finds Plant and Krauss covering songs by artists like Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, the Everly Brothers and Bert Jansch , though it does feature one original, “High and Lonesome.”

Robert Plant Allison Krauss

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss will be on tour together for the first time in 13 years next summer when they team up for a joint outing in the U.S. and Europe behind a new album that comes out today, “Raise the Roof.”

The tour isn’t an extensive one, at least as currently announced. In America, Plant and Krauss are due to only play 10 dates, all in the eastern U.S., Midwest or South. Their European trek is even shorter, consisting of eight dates.

Three of the 10 U.S. dates are in New York state, with the tour scheduled to kick off in Canandaigua, NY on June 1 and proceed to Saratoga Springs and Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. From there, there are shows in cities including Chicago, Philadelphia and Indianapolis before the U.S. leg wraps up just over two weeks later at Atlanta’s Cadence Bank Amphitheatre.

Ten days after that, Plant and Krauss commence the European leg in London at BST Hyde Park on June 26, wrapping up in Berlin on July 20.

Popular on Variety

Tickets for the U.S. go on sale to the general public Dec. 3, following some presales on Nov. 29. For the European dates, the presales begin Nov. 24 and the general sale commences Nov. 26.

Demand will certainly succeed supply at these outings, and there’s no word on whether dates in other areas may be added later. But even after their previous album, the Grammy-winning “Raising Sand,” came out in 2007, tour dates didn’t come in huge abundance, topping out at fewer than 50 shows.

Plant and Krauss did almost all of their previous touring as a duo over a period of six months in 2008, followed by a handful of European dates in 2009. They did subsequently perform together for a few songs in 2015 as part of a tribute to the blues legend Lead Belly at the Kennedy Center.

The new “Raise the Roof,” on Rounder Records, has been hailed as a worthy follow-up to “Raising Sand,” which won Grammys for album and record of the year, among other plaudits, at the Grammys. Both albums were produced by T Bone Burnett, who joined the band on the 2008 tour.

“The album sounds warm, mystical and at times slightly foreboding, like an old friend you’re glad to see again who’s still a little mysterious,” wrote Variety in a November profile of the duo. Read that interview here .

The pair will appear on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” tonight and “CBS Saturday Morning” tomorrow morning.

The list of 2022 tour dates:

alison krauss plant tour

They’re back! Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have announced their return to North America with a 2024 tour. Reunited once more – and much sooner than the twelve years that passed between their first two tours – the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and the 27x GRAMMY-winner will tour this spring and summer. The first 28 concerts of the “Can’t Let Go” tour were announced on February 13. Beginning June 2, the tour will see Plant, Krauss and their all-star band play amphitheaters, pavilions, opera houses and other historic venues. With additional stops to still be revealed, dozens of cities will have the opportunity to experience the live show hailed as “a master class of a concert” ( Chicago Tribune ). Tickets for the majority of shows go on-sale Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. local time here , following a series of pre-sales that begin at 10 a.m. on Feb. 14.

Dates will feature support from JD McPherson, who also plays lead guitar for Plant and Krauss, alongside an ensemble of drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Dennis Crouch, multi-talented string player Stuart Duncan, and Viktor Krauss on keys and guitar. Drawing from both of their monumentally acclaimed, T Bone Burnett-produced LPs – 2007’s GRAMMY-sweeping Raising Sand and 2021’s chart-topping Raise The Roof – Plant and Krauss will deliver a blend of early blues, country deep cuts, revolutionary folk-rock and lost soul music written by legends and unsung heroes like Merle Haggard, Allen Toussaint, the Everly Brothers, Anne Briggs, Geeshie Wiley, Bert Jansch, Ola Belle Reed, Brenda Burns and more, as well as reimagined renditions of Led Zeppelin cuts like “The Battle of Evermore,” “Rock & Roll,” “When the Levee Breaks” and other surprises.

The tour announcement notes that Plant and Krauss want to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value. To make this possible, if fans purchase tickets for a show through Ticketmaster and can’t attend, they’ll have the option to resell them to other fans at the original price paid using Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange. Robert Plant, Alison Krauss Set 2023 North American Tour

by Tina Benitez-Eves February 1, 2023, 10:48 am

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are set to go back on tour together with two dozen spring and summer North America dates in 2023.

Videos by American Songwriter

Their Raising the Roof Tour will kick off on April 25 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and wrap up on July 5 in Toronto, Canada. The duo is touring in support of their most recent collaborative album,  Raise the Roof , released in 2021.

Produced by T Bone Burnett, Raise the Roof recently picked up three 2023 Grammy nominations for Best Americana Album, Best Country Duo/Group Performance, and Best American Roots Song for the single “High and Lonesome.”

Raise the Roof was released 14 years after Plant and Krauss’ first album together,  Raising Sand , which earned them a Grammy for Album of the Year.

The duo recently talked about the possibility of making a third album to follow up Raise the Roof .

“I can’t see any reason why not,” said Plant on making new music with Krauss. “I suppose if we wait another 14 years it could be a bit dicey for me, to be honest. I might find it a little bit difficult hitting a top C—but we can say it really works well, and we enjoy each other and that’s a great thing, so it seems like a great idea.”

Plant also recently revealed that he is working on a second Band Of Joy album in addition to an expanded version of the Honeydrippers record. Released in 1984, the one-off The Honeydrippers: Volume One , was a collaborative album featuring his Led Zeppelin bandmate, guitarist Jimmy Page and the late Jeff Beck .

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Raise The Roof Tour 2024: How to Buy Tickets

R obert Plant & Alison Krauss have just announced the Raise The Roof Tour, taking to the road in celebration of their 2021 hit album of the same name. The duo will take centerstage at ballrooms and amphitheaters across America this summer, performing a mixture of their own songs and covers selected from the Americana canon.

They’ll be starting their tour at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa this June before wrapping up their joint venture in September at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail. JD McPherson will be reprising his role as the opener for the tour as well, and we can’t wait to hear the “Mother of Lies” singer live.

If you want to see Alison Krauss and Robert Plant live on their latest tour, tickets are available now through StubHub where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

Krauss and Plant have an amazing chemistry that not many other duos in music share. They’ve worked together on other projects outside of their Raise The Roof album, including their album Raising Sand which won the pair an astounding 6 Grammy Awards in total.

Both performers are stars in their own right. Alison Krauss released her first album when she was just 16 and hasn’t looked back since. Some of her most popular hits include chart-toppers like “Little Liza Jane,” “Same Old Train,” and of course “Baby, Now That I’ve Found You”.

Robert Plant, who needs no introduction as the former lead singer of Led Zeppelin, is a major headliner in his own right as well, and the fact that he’s going on tour with another great performer gives fans a unique chance to see two great acts in one night.

Tickets for Krauss and Plant’s last tour sold quickly and this tour looks set to do the same. If you’re interested in seeing the pair perform live, you can get official tickets directly through StubHub or by clicking here .

The GRAMMY winning duo will return to the road this June

Robert Plan Alison Krauss 2024

This summer, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are returning to the road. The GRAMMY® Award-winning duo are embarking on their Can’t Let Go Tour across North America. The tour kicks off on June 2 at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma and wraps up on September 1 at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colorado. Check out the full tour itinerary below.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, February 16 at 10am local venue time.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss released their sophomore album, Raise the Roof , back in 2021. The record garnered the pair three GRAMMY® nominations, including Best Americana Album, Best American Roots Song for “High and Lonesome,” and Best Country Duo or Group Performance for “Going Where the Lonely Go.” It performed well commercially, hitting No. 7 on the Billboard 200, No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, and No. 5 on the UK Albums chart.

Last October in Oxfordshire, England, Robert Plant played Led Zeppelin’s signature song, “Stairway to Heaven , ” for the first time in nearly two decades. The performance was part of Plant’s slot at a charity show for The Cancer Platform. He was accompanied by none other than founding  Duran Duran  guitarist Andy Taylor, who leads the charitable initiative, and accomplished bassist Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Gary Moore, Whitesnake). Plant’s set also included two more Zeppelin classics – “Thank You” and “Black Dog.” Stream the full performance of “Stairway to Heaven” below.

“Well that was fun, “Platt said on his official Instagram. “So good to be reunited with my old rhythm partner David Palmer and play with Andy Taylor for the first time in 25 years…AND ROBERT PLANT! Who was just amazing and such a lovely chap. I’ve now played ‘Black Dog’ with Page and Plant. Box tick! And for an amazing cause. The incredible Sir Chris Evans who’s cancer breakthroughs are saving untold lives, Andy’s included. Shout out to Ella Henderson too who was great.”

The Cancer Platform is a newly launched program by The Cancer Trust, which is spearheaded by Andy Taylor. The event An Evening with Andy Taylor and Special Guests was put on by The Cancer Platform at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire, England on Saturday, October 21. In addition to Plant and Pratt, other featured guests included renowned session and touring drummer David Palmer (Rod Stewart, Sting, Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Adams) was also on the bill, in addition to several others.

Andy Taylor, who stepped away from Duran Duran in 2006, revealed last year that he has prostate cancer. Last August, Duran Duran played a special one-off show at the Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, California to raise funds for The Cancer Platform.

Robert Plant had last performed “Stairway to Heaven” with Led Zeppelin on December 10, 2007. The performance at the O2 Arena in London was part of the tribute concert to the late Ahmet Ertegun. Erteghun was the founder of Atlantic Records, Zeppelin’s longtime label. The band’s set was eventually released on the live DVD,  Celebration Day .

Originally releases in 1971, “Stairway to Heaven” appeared on Led Zeppelin’s watershed untitled fourth album, commonly referred to as  Led Zeppelin IV , or  Zoso . The sweeping 8-minute epic is widely regarded as one of the greatest songs ever written. The album, which is arguably Zeppelin’s best album, the double-diamond certified  Zoso  is undoubtedly one of the greatest rock records of all-time.

So it's never dull. But if it's dull, I'm not sticking around anyway."

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss – Raise The Roof Tour; Rose Music Center at the Heights; Dayton, Ohio; May 3, 2023

Almost as incongruous as the coming together of Robert Plant, the now-74 year old former-lead singer of the prototype hard rock/metal band Led Zeppelin, and Alison Krauss, twenty years younger, with an award-winning career as a bluegrass and country music singer and fiddler, was the cold temperatures Wednesday night for the first concert of the summer season at outdoor venue, The Rose. Evidently, it was producer T Bone Burnett who brought together the unlikely duo back in 2007 to record Raising Sand , which went on the win the Grammy for the Album of the Year in ’09. The band toured most of the year following the album’s release, and although they attempted a sophomore follow-up the initial recordings were disappointing and they both returned to their previous solo careers, Krauss with her band Union Station and Plant joined up with Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller to form Band of Joy and pursue Americana and folk/rock roots music. Then after 14 years apart, the two singers reconvened with Burnett to record Raise the Roof , a decidedly more up-tempo album in late 2021, leading to this tour.

At 8:30, about as the sun was going down with a full moon in the eastern sky, Krauss and Plant took the stage, her long hair flowing over a long dark winter coat, and him wearing a jean jacket over a hoodie, probably the only person in the world who can actually pull off a man-bun. And on this tour, the duo are backed by a number of musicians who played on the album: drummer Jay Bellerose, Dennis Crouch on the upright bass, multi-instrumentalist Stuart Duncan, and Alison’s brother who played guitars and some keyboards during the concert, Viktor Krauss. Guitarist JD McPherson filled out the band, taking on the noble task of filling in for players like Miller, David Hidalgo (Los Lobos), Bill Frisell, and Marc Ribot, who all contributed to the album. They opened with the opening song of their first album, the slow brooding “Rich Woman,” with the throbbing rhythm and the duo singing the sweet, harmony lead vocals about how “she got the money, and I got the honey,” Plant moaning at the end about the need to “ah, stop your train,” a tone familiar to any Led Zep fan.

Duncan opened the Calexico cover “Quattro (World Drifts In)” playing a twangy nylon stringed guitar, and the two singers found another unique harmony to carry the lead, before Bellerose and Crouch kicked the seductive beat into a seamless groove. This is the song the Krauss said in an interview that convinced her they needed to sing together again, and you could feel the special chemistry between their two very different singing styles. Plant who took on most of the speaking duties on this night, often reminding the crowd how cold it was, greeted the audience with “Good evening, everybody. Welcome to Norway.”

The rhythm section launched into the witchy, crackling beat of “Fortune Teller,” which Plant sings lead on. Plant marked the snappy rhythm clapping the fast beats at the bridge, while Krauss sang the haunted “whoooos,” and McPherson played a strong guitar solo with a solid retro tone driving his licks home. Plant picked up maracas for the next song, “The Price of Love,” but it was another moody number, this time with Krauss singing lead, and him joining her to reproduce the Everly Bros. harmonies of the original.

After wondering aloud whatever happened to global-warming, Plant suggested that their concert was a “pre-coronation event,” and then announced that he actually is the same age of his homeland’s new king, Charles. He said, “my mom used to ask me, why can’t you be more like him?” And I said, “I am.” At which point Duncan launched into a lengthy violin solo that led into a very rockabilly version of the Zeppelin classic “Rock and Roll,” with Duncan delivering train whistle sounds on the violin, before JD McPherson delivered a rocking solo as close to a Jimmy Page solo as we would hear on this night, Krauss joining Plant on the familiar verses, but leaving the closing “been a long, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time” to the man who sang it the first time around.

Next up was another song written by Plant and Page, but since it was for the duo’s one non-Zep studio album, Walking into Clarksdale . Page and Krauss had remade “Please Read the Letter” in their signature sound and won that year’s Grammy for Record of the Year for the single. They thrive in the slow, bluesy country groove that’s at the heart of so many of their songs, with Krauss playing the violin solos this time, and their haunting harmony vocals pleading the song’s case.

Then the band turned their attention to their newest release, six songs from “ Raise the Roof ,” starting off with the one original the two singers wrote with their producer Burnett, “High and Lonesome.” They worked steadily through “Last Kind Word Blues,” with Duncan supporting on acoustic dobro, and electric mandolin, both Duncan and Krauss playing violins that sounded just incredible together on “You Led Me to the Wrong.” Allen Toussaint’s “Trouble with My Lover” got a bit of the New Orleans back beat that suits it, with Krauss taking more of a lead on the vocal. Plant said that it was the whole Americana passion for music that brought him to working on music like this, but they discovered a couple by Scottish songwriter Bert Jansch while compiling music for the new album. “Go Your Way” had a bigger rhythm, with a smartly punctuated beat by Bellerose, giving McPherson a distinct Celtic vibe over which to deliver a solid guitar solo. “It Don’t Bother Me” has guitar notes ringing out like chimes over the sturdy marching beat, Krauss singing lead until Plant joins on the harmonies that build and grow toward the chorus and a strong crescendo at the end.

Returning to his role as MC, Plant announced that “We’re a distinguished gathering here tonight,” then as applause broke out, he added “not you. Us.” Plant, when he finally got to his singing partner, referred to himself as a mere hobbit, describing himself in terms of Tolkien, who’s obviously influenced some of his early lyrics, before described Krauss as the “Queen of Rivendell.” The duo then dug into an old Ray Charles song, “Leave My Woman Alone,” one classic cover not on either of their albums. The Duncan started playing the familiar opening licks of “The Battle of Evermore” on mandolin, a song filled with Tolkien-esque imagery, that Plant sang as a duet with Sandy Denny from the Fairport Convention, in his Zeppelin days. Here on this night, Krauss joined Plant on those signature wailing moans and sighs that have always accompanied his singing, pleading together repeatedly to “bring it back.”

Staying with songs from Led Zeppelin IV , they dove next into the bluesy vamp of “When the Levee Breaks,” originally written by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy, with Krauss and Duncan both back on violins, leading into the hottest jam of the evening, in time building into a strong rhythm with an Arabic flavor, strong soloing from Duncan on violin and McPherson on guitar. Then they closed out the set proper with a good-time rock & roll classic, the Everly Brothers classic “Gone Gone Gone,” from the Raising Sand album, which revealed the secret sauce of the Alison Krauss/Robert Plant collaboration, that mysteriously their combined voices do echo the magic that filled the air when Don and Phil Everly sand together.

After just enough applause to give the musicians a chance to catch their breath, they returned for “Can’t Let Go,” another old school rock & roll song with that golden retro flavor, owing largely to the strong guitar tones of McPherson, Bellerose’s spunky backbeat, and the delightful harmony singing of Plant and Krauss, the odd couple that just sounds great singing together.

Alison Krauss Toy Heart with Tom Power (A Podcast About Bluegrass)

  • Music Interviews

We could hardly think of a better guest with whom we’d conclude our second season of Toy Heart than 27-time Grammy Award winner, Alison Krauss. Arguably the most prominent bluegrass musician in the genre’s nearly one hundred year history – certainly the most well-known in her own generation – host Tom Power’s laughter-filled conversation with Krauss weaves through her childhood and upbringing, from her grandparents immigrating to Chicago (then her parents to Champaign, Illinois) and Alison's first fiddle contests all the way to her first Grammy win as a young adult. In a rare podcast interview, Krauss is funny, charming, and open, her candor painting a picture of the bluegrass community's lifelong support and the winding journey that has brought her to the present, as one of the most recognizable voices and musicians in American roots music. From her earliest hits like “Steel Rails” and “Every Time You Say Goodbye” to collaborating with Robert Plant, James Taylor, the Cox Family, and more, to her Buddy Cannon-produced 2017 album, Windy City, Power and Krauss talk about song selection, her early days touring and road-dogging with Union Station, and how it felt when her musical career really began to take off. But these stories aren’t just about awards and accolades. They chat about many moments, the big and small, that define Krauss, the festivals that became like homes, and the bonds that music forged with her band, Union Station, and her many collaborators. They explore how Krauss creates on the boundaries of many roots genres – plus what she views as bluegrass and what’s not bluegrass – the authenticity that she’s tried to capture throughout her career, and the cultural waves made by projects like O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the Down From the Mountain tour. From personal anecdotes about Ralph Stanley and Larry Sparks to her feelings about Billy Strings’ massive success to a jaw-dropping and exciting revelation that she and Union Station are working on a new bluegrass album, our season finale with Alison Krauss is truly one of our best Toy Heart episodes to date.
