The 19 best live music venues in Los Angeles
Your complete guide to live music Los Angeles style, from concert calendars to iconic venues and more
When it comes to live music venues, Los Angeles reigns. Ours is a storied history, from the rambling folk history of Woody Guthrie to the rock ’n’ rolling, raunchy ways of bands like the Doors, Van Halen and Motley Crue. And to this day, the city remains one of the best for amazing concerts —and amazingly free concerts —not in small part due to its wide array of venues, from gorgeous outdoor amphitheatres to hole-in-the-wall clubs and dive bars . There’s a steady stream of impressive local talent here, and no big-name artist completes a tour without stopping in L.A. We’ve got it all, when it comes to live music in Los Angeles and we’re damn lucky—see for yourself below.

Top live music venues in Los Angeles
1. Hollywood Bowl
- Things to do
- Event spaces
- price 2 of 4
This gorgeous outdoor amphitheater has been hosting concerts since the LA Philharmonic first played here in 1922. Nestled in an aesthetically blessed fold of the Hollywood Hills, the 18,000-seat venue can bring out the romantic in the terminally cynical. It’s the summer home of the LA Phil, but it’s hosted everyone from the Beatles to Big Bird. Today, summers at the Bowl are a mix of classical concerts and the biggest names from all genres, from rock and pop to country and musical theater.
2. Teragram Ballroom
- Music venues
Shows at this 600-person Westlake spot are consistently indie rock, which makes sense: Owner Michael Swier is the man behind New York City’s Bowery Ballroom (and, locally, the Moroccan Lounge and the Bellwether ). Shows are priced reasonably, and you can grab a bite beforehand at the venue’s built-in bar and restaurant.
3. The Theatre at Ace Hotel
- Downtown Historic Core
When the Ace Hotel opened in early 2014, we didn’t just gain a super hip hotel in DTLA: We also got a jaw-droppingly beautiful 1920s movie house-turned-performing arts space, which has since billed an impressive lineup of performances, concerts, movie nights, lectures and more. The former flagship United Artists Theater is a 1,600-seat house perfect for folk acts, solo artists and beloved indie bands.
4. Troubadour
- West Hollywood
This storied club has a rich musical history: Randy Newman got his start here, and Elton John made his U.S. debut on its stage in 1970. It hasn’t lapsed into irrelevance in the time since, often showcasing bands on the rise—those shows sell out quick . The sound is great and the views are decent from almost anywhere in the room—just stay out from under the balcony.
5. Greek Theatre
- Griffith Park
This pleasant, open-air, 6,000-seat theatre stages big summer shows by acts both national and local. It’s a bit like seeing a concert in the woods, and rivals the Hollywood Bowl in terms of L.A.’s most magical outdoor music venue. The only downside: The “stacked” parking means getting out of the parking lot often takes longer than the show, and VIP “Quick Parking” is a pricey $100.
6. Hollywood Forever Cemetery
Aside from popular posthumous celebs, Hollywood Forever is also home to summer outdoor movie screenings; Cinespia-hosted sleepovers with projected films, live music and games; as well as a number of unique concert events (past performers include Bon Iver, Lana del Rey and Karen O, to name just a few). Whether on the lawn or in the Masonic Lodge, seeing a show here is a little bit magical, and the bands booked here are always top notch and perfectly suited to play to a crowd of both living and dead.
7. Walt Disney Concert Hall
- price 3 of 4
As the $274-million crown jewel of the Music Center, Disney Hall opened in 2003 to rave reviews. The novelty hasn’t yet worn off: Both inside and out, this is a terrific venue. Designed by Frank Gehry, the hall features a 2,265-capacity auditorium with an open platform stage and a stunning pipe organ. The hall is the home of the LA Philharmonic and the LA Master Chorale, but the schedule is surprisingly varied (Björk, Sigur Rós, Sylvan Esso, Nick Cave and Iron & Wine have all played here).
8. Largo at the Coronet
We like venues that take good care of their performers, and that’s clearly the case at L.A.’s home for cultured, bankable singer-songwriters and brilliant comedians. The likes of Aimee Mann, the Watkins Family, Andrew Bird and perennial hot-ticket artist-in-residence Jon Brion ply their trade in the remarkably intimate 280-seat space.
9. Lodge Room
- Highland Park
Eastside buzz bands, cult-favorite singer-songwriters and surprise stand-up sets from Dave Chappelle mix at the Lodge Room, an intimate concert hall housed inside a former Masonic lodge in Highland Park. Show up early—or stay late—for a drink and a bite to eat at the adjoined Checker Hall .
10. The Forum
It had been a while since this 17,500-seat space was the city’s go-to arena. But after a $100 million renovation in 2014, the half-century-old Forum has become fabulous once again—enough so that it’s poached many major arena shows from DTLA’s Crypto.com Arena . Almost every massive touring act makes a stop here (Eagles, the Strokes, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, U2), and it’s really the best-case scenario as far as arenas go: The bowl nature of the auditorium keeps sightlines clear and near, and the acoustics are actually pretty good (unlike the disappointing sound next door at SoFi Stadium ). Try to avoid the parking lot if you can, and instead pay for a lot a couple of blocks away.

Grand Performances
- price 0 of 4
- Downtown Jun 1 Aug 24, 2024
This epic (and free) outdoor concert series features live performances by artists from around the world at the totally overhauled California Plaza stage in DTLA, where the shallow water separating the stage from the audience has been replaced by a proper event lawn. Don’t miss a diverse and highly intriguing mix of bands, DJ sets and dance parties.
- Inglewood Sep 12, 2024
NCT Dream, a seven-member subunit of South Korean boy band NCT, will be stopping by Inglewood’s Intuit Dome with their brand-new world tour. Expect to hear hits from their latest EP, Dream()scape, such as “Icantfeelanything” and the Fruit Ninja-themed “Smoothie,” as well as from their ISTJ album which was released in the latter half of 2023.
Billie Eilish ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ Listening Party
- Inglewood May 16, 2024
Months before Billie Eilish performs at the Forum, you can get an early listen of her new album there. Hit Me Hard and Soft releases on May 17, but you’ll be able to hear it a day early during this listening party at the Forum. The free event takes place on May 16, but you’ll need to submit a request by Tuesday, May 7 at 9am (and if you’re chosen, you’ll be notified on Friday, May 10).
Imagine Dragons
- Rock and indie
- price 4 of 4
- Hollywood Oct 22 Oct 23, 2024
Las Vegans Imagine Dragons make impassioned sort-of-indie rock with plenty of synthesizers, turning out one radio hit after another that you mostly don’t mind hearing repeatedly—they’re like the American Coldplay. It’s all there: songs that move from piano balladry to thumping choruses; portentously life-affirming lyrics; earnest, high-pitched vocals; clever album artwork… you get the idea.

Doja Cat at Coachella 2024: everything you need to know, including start time
We’re not the only ones who’ve never been able to get “Mooo!” out of our heads, right? But singer and rapper Doja Cat has come a long way since her days as a cow, infiltrating pop radio with her silky retro-futuristic bangers and becoming a mainstay of music festivals—including this year’s Coachella. Before she steps on the stage, here’s everything you need to know about Doja Cat’s headlining set at Coachella this year. When is Doja Cat playing at Coachella this year? She’ll be performing on Sunday, April 21, during the fest’s second weekend (she already played on Sunday, April 14, during the first). What time will she come on stage? 10:25pm on Sunday, according to the scheduled start time for the second weekend of the festival. It’s worth mentioning that there’s a midnight curfew (that the festival has sometimes cruised past). What will the setlist look like? Of course, we don’t know the setlist in advance, but we can look at the setlist from her first weekend performance as a pretty good predictor. For starters, Doja Cat toured pretty extensively until the end of 2023 in support of last year’s Scarlet, and like that tour her first weekend set was mostly filled with tracks from it. The 21-song set included “Tia Tamera” and “Need to Know”—but didn’t include “Say So,” “Juicy” and “Kiss Me More,” all of which are among her most frequently performed songs. What special guests might show up? There’s no guarantee the same guests will appear during the second weekend, but for the
Tyler, the Creator at Coachella 2024: everything you need to know
For Angelenos, Tyler, the Creator is as much of a local cultural icon as he is a global rap superstar thanks to his GOLF WANG store on Fairfax and even his own annual hip-hop fest, Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. But his headlining set at Coachella is nonetheless a pretty big deal—so here’s everything you need to know about his performance at the Indio music festival. When is Tyler, the Creator playing at Coachella this year? He’ll be performing on Saturday, April 20, during the fest’s second weekend (he already performed during the first on Saturday, April 13). What time will he come on stage? 11:40pm on Saturday, according to the scheduled start time for the second weekend of the festival. It’s worth mentioning that there’s a 1am curfew (that the festival has sometimes cruised past). What will the setlist look like? We of course won’t know until Tyler actually takes the stage, but the first weekend’s setlist offers some pretty good ideas of what we can expect. “IFHY,” “Tamale” and his breakout hit “Yonkers” are among the staples of his sets, and they were all featured in his 22-song set during the first weekend. His last album, Call Me If You Get Lost, comprised the bulk of his first weekend performance, but as with his set at Camp Flog Gnaw last fall, there was a little bit of something pulled from all of his records. What special guests might show up? There’s no guarantee the same guests will appear during the second weekend, but for the first Childish Gambino performed with Tyl
No Doubt at Coachella 2024: Everything you need to know
Although ’90s punk band No Doubt has been given an “and…” credit on the poster for this year’s Coachella, the group’s reunion performance on Saturday night on the main stage is for all practical purposes a headlining set—and has already become one of the most talked-about acts of the year. That may be for a variety of reasons: No Doubt has not performed together since 2015 and, since then, Gwen Stefani, the band’s frontwoman, has become even more famous following multiple stints as a coach on The Voice. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming performance so far. When is No Doubt at Coachella 2024? The members of No Doubt—singer Stefani, guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal and drummer Adrian Young—will take to the festival’s Coachella Stage during the second weekend on Saturday, April 20 (they already performed during the first weekend, as well on April 13). What time will the band come on stage? No Doubt is scheduled to perform at 9:25pm on Saturday night, the last act on the main stage before headliner Tyler, the Creator. Any news on the setlist? For the first weekend, No Doubt’s 16-song setlist was filled with fan favorites including “Just a Girl,” “Sunday Morning,” “Don’t Speak,” “Hey Baby,” “Hella Good” and, of course, “Spiderwebs.” What special guests might show up? There’s no guarantee that special guests will be the same during the second weekend, but for the first Olivia Rodrigo joined the band for “Bathwater.” Has No Doubt performed at Coachella before? No
Lana Del Rey at Coachella 2024: Everything you need to know
She’s played Coachella, she’s written a song about Coachella and she’s crafted a whole vibe that’s basically synonymous with Coachella. And now Lana Del Rey finds herself set to headline the first night of this year’s music festival. Here’s everything we know—and a few things we predict—about her performance before she takes the stage in Indio. When is Lana Del Rey at Coachella 2024? She’ll be performing on Friday, April 19 of the festival’s second weekend (she already played on Friday, April 12, during the fest’s first weekend). What time will she come on stage? 11:20pm on Friday—at least that’s the scheduled time for the second weekend of the fest. Note that there’s a 1am curfew (though one that the festival has sometimes cruised past). Any news on the setlist? We won’t know until she actually wraps up her performance, of course, but we can get a pretty good idea from combing through the first weekend’s setlist. The big hits were mostly all there in the 20-song setlist, including “Video Games,” “Born to Die” and “Summertime Sadness,” which make it into just about every show she performs (mainstay “Blue Jeans” was notably absent, however). Though Lasso, Del Rey’s upcoming country-inspired album, is due out in September, it didn’t make its way into the first weekend’s set at all. And neither did “Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind,” which she’s still never performed live. What special guests might show up? For the first weekend, Lana Del Rey brought out a handful of special gue

Madonna’s Celebration Tour pulls record 1.6M fans into the groove at Rio’s Copacabana

More than a million music fans gathered at Brazil’s iconic Copacabana beach to prove their love to Madonna over the weekend.
The “Get into the Groove” and “Vogue” pop diva concluded her career-spanning Celebration Tour with a bang over the weekend, treating fans in Rio de Janeiro to a free beach concert on Saturday. “This really happened,” the singer reminisced in an Instagram video shared Sunday.
The Instagram clip shows an aerial view of attendees assembling on the sandy Brazilian strip, which stretches more than 2 miles along the coast. While some fans danced on the beach, others hosted house parties in nearby beachfront apartments and hotels, the Associated Press reported.
Madonna’s Celebration tour is a messy victory lap that needs more razzle-dazzle
Madonna brought her career-spanning Celebration tour to the Kia Forum for a night of hits, memories and grievances.
March 5, 2024
“This place is magic,” the 65-year-old singing icon said during her show, which also featured appearances from Brazilian artists Anitta and Pabllo Vittar.
An estimated 1.6 million people gathered for Madonna’s Celebration Tour finale, Brazilian outlet G1 reported, citing Rio City Hall’s tourism agency. The event was also broadcast on Brazilian network TV Globo. Even before a million-plus fans descended on Copacabana over the weekend, Madonna announced in late March that her send-off would be her “biggest gig yet.”
“The show will be free of charge as a thank you to her fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour,” her website said.
Saturday’s concert broke Madge’s personal attendance record — 130,000 fans at Paris’ Parc des Sceaux in 1987 — by more than tenfold. Madonna also bested the record previously held by the Rolling Stones’ 2006 Copacabana concert , which drew 1.5 million people.
‘No Madonna fan’ should expect a Madonna show to start on time. So says Team Madonna
Madonna’s legal team submits a dismissal request in a class-action case about her concert tardiness, contending that a two-hour delay didn’t injure ticketholders.
April 5, 2024
” @Madonna makes history in Rio tonight marking the largest ever standalone concert for any artist, with over 1.6 million fans attending as she closes The Celebration Tour,” Live Nation announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
Madonna’s Celebration Tour launched in October, months after she was hospitalized for a bacterial infection last June. The Grammy winner brought her headline-generating tour to Inglewood’s Kia Forum for several nights in March.
Times critic Mikael Wood wrote that the singer’s Celebration Tour “ was curiously short on joy. ”
“A pop concert is a theater of personality and craft, not one of plot or character development,” he added. “But a narrative this messy needed more razzle-dazzle.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Taylor Swift made big changes to Eras Tour. What to know about set list, 'Tortured Poets'
PARIS, France — Who's afraid of little old Taylor Swift adding an additional set to her already extensive Eras Tour setlist ? The singer revivified her magnum opus in La Défense Arena adding seven songs from "The Tortured Poets Department."
Swift rearranged the majority of the show, leaving only the "Lover," "Fearless" and "Midnights" eras in their original spots. "Folklore" and "Evermore" joined forces in one eight-song set. Swift also debuted several new outfits and cut some songs from the set list.
Toward the end of her show, Swift officially launched the long-awaited “The Tortured Poets Department” section of the tour after the 1989 era.
Live from Paris: Taylor Swift's Eras Tour begins again in France
Swift performed the track “But Daddy I Love Him” off the April 19 album for her ecstatic fans while wearing a new beige dress with cursive letters.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
A road spiraled down the catwalk in an animation to initiate the era. The background animation showed a deserted road while large cages animated and fell on the road.
“Oh my god you should see your faces,” she sang.
She quickly segwayed into a brief moment of “So High School,” the beloved track speculated to be about her romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She then performed the powerhouse anthem “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me.”
Swift switched to “Down Bad” before seamlessly transitioning into the lead single “Fortnight.” Stage production recreated an asylum that resembled the music video for the song with Post Malone, whose recorded harmony played concluding the song.
Dancers entered the stage in a marching band style format playing drums as she performed the wrath-fueled song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Dancers Jan Ravnik and Kameron Saunders then revived Swift in a jazzy skit to set up “I Can Do With A Broken Heart,” where she debuted another new outfit.
“The End” text displayed wrapping up the era that’s likely here to stay. Other beloved tracks like “Guilty As Sin” and “Florida!” did not make the cut.
At the start of the secret set, Swift described the "Tortured Poets" set as "Female Rage: The Musical." Fans then got to hear another song from the new album as she played heartbreaking ballad "loml" on the piano as part of her acoustic set.
Set list: Taylor Swift unveils new Eras Tour in Paris with 'Tortured Poets' tracks
'The Tortured Poets Department' songs added to set list
Swift added these seven new songs from "Tortured Poets" to her set list:
- "But Daddy I Love Him"
- "So High School"
- "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me"
- "Fortnight"
- "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"
- "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart"
The eras in a new order
Swift switched up the order of her eras in the set list. Here's how the new show proceeds:
- "Speak Now"
- "Reputation"
- "Folklore" and "Evermore" combined
- "The Tortured Poets Department"
- Acoustic set of rotating, secret songs
- "Midnights"
Check out the entire new set list here .
Songs cut from the Eras Tour set list
Swift gave a preview of the songs cut from her show in the first release of her Eras Tour movie. To be fair, she incorporated opening act Paramore during the "Speak Now" set to sing "Castles Crumbling" after "Enchanted."
- "Lover": "The Archer"
- "Evermore": "'Tis the Damn Season" and "Tolerate It"
- "Speak Now": "Long Live"
- "Folklore": "The 1" and "The Last Great American Dynasty"
The tortured poet debuted the new set in front of 40,000-plus fans at La Défense Arena in Paris.

Fans will certainly be analysing this evening’s performance for some time.
New setlist, new performances, new outfits – while some songs were cut.
First Europe show ends
“I love you so much,” Taylor tells the crowd in the Paris arena, closing the first night of the Europe leg of her Eras tour, where she revamped her setlist and performed new music for the first time.
Taylor is singing Karma.
‘Cause karma is my boyfriend Karma is a god Karma is the breeze in my hair on the weekend Karma’s a relaxing thought Aren’t you envious that for you it’s not? Sweet like honey, karma is a cat Purring in my lap ‘cause it loves me Flexing like a goddamn acrobat Me and karma vibe like that
We’re on the last song :(
“This has been an unforgettable night in Paris, we love you so much!” Taylor tells the audience.
We’re close to the end of the show…
Taylor is now singing Mastermind. Love these lyrics:
What if I told you none of it was accidental And the first night that you saw me, nothing was gonna stop me? I laid the groundwork and then, just like clockwork The dominoes cascaded in a line
“So on the weekends She don’t dress for friends Lately she’s been dressing for revenge”
She’s moved to Vigilante Shit.
And here’s footage from the earlier TTDP set:

Midnight Rain is up now.
“It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me At tea time, everybody agrees I’ll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero”

Taylor Swift causes chaos at her 'Eras Tour' stop in Paris with new setlist, costumes
Taylor Swift is lighting up Paris!
The singer is in the French capital for the European leg of her “Eras Tour” at the Paris La Défense Arena from May 9 to May 12 with new costumes, an edited setlist and an era she’s nicknamed “female rage, the musical.”
During her May 9 show, Swift shouted out the crowd, saying the energy in Paris makes her want to bring out “all kinds of fun surprises.”
Some Swifties are traveling thousands of miles to catch one of the singer’s four Paris shows — and in fact, anywhere between 20% and 30% of fans set to watch Swift in Paris are American, the arena’s CEO, Frederic Longuépée, told NBC News.
Parisian hotels and restaurants will be packed throughout the weekend, which is a good test for the city’s infrastructure and security leading up to another major event this summer: the 2024 Paris Olympics .
“For four nights, we’ll be the center of the world, which is important to us, because it’s a rehearsal for the Olympics, obviously,” Longuépée said.
These shows mark the first time Swift has performed onstage since the release of her record-shattering studio album , “The Tortured Poets Department ." After much speculation, Swift officially switched up her more than three-hour setlist, cutting some songs to make room for a new section dedicated to her 11th album.
Swifties are also wondering whether a certain NFL star will be spending time with the singer in the City of Light.
Read on to learn more about Taylor Swift’s Paris “Eras Tour” shows , including how to buy last-minute tickets.
When are Taylor Swift’s Paris tour dates?
There will be four "Eras Tour" dates in Paris on May 9, 10, 11 and 12, with shows beginning at 6:30 p.m. local time.
Each show will take place at the Paris La Défense Arena, which is the largest indoor performance venue in Europe. The massive venue can accommodate 40,000 spectators in "concert mode," according to the arena’s website . Gates will open for attendees at 4:45 p.m.
Paramore will open for Swift at her Paris shows.
What time is it in Paris?
Paris is six hours ahead of the U.S.
Since Swift's shows start around 6:30 p.m. in Paris, Americans looking to follow along online should anticipate doing so at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Can fans still get tickets to Taylor Swift’s Paris concerts?
According to SeatPick , there are tickets available for the May 11 show starting at around $160, and tickets for the final Paris show on May 12 starting at $150.
Prices are kept so (comparatively) low due to France’s stricter laws around reselling tickets. Fans are not allowed to resell tickets for more than their original sale value, according to Ticketmaster’s French website .
Is Travis Kelce going to Taylor Swift’s Paris shows?
Kelce hasn’t confirmed whether he will be joining Swift in the City of Light, but he did show support as she restarts her record-breaking tour.
Swift's longtime guitarist Paul Sidoti shared a picture of him and Swift performing onstage with the caption, "The Eras Tour Europe starts tonight.. Paris you’re up first.. who’s coming?"
Kelce hopped into the comments section with, "Lfg!!!" and several raised hands emoji.
Kelce was not spotted at the May 9 or 10 shows. TODAY.com has reached out to his representatives on if he plans to attend any of her concerts in France.
Niecy Nash-Betts shared a video of Kelce May 10 on the set of the new Ryan Murphy show “ Grotesquerie, ” one of the tight end’s first major acting roles.
Kelce said in the past he would definitely be supporting his girlfriend during the European leg of her "Eras Tour."
“London’s always an amazing city, Paris is a beautiful city. She’ll be all over Europe, so there won’t be a bad show, I promise you that,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end told "Entertainment Tonight" in April.
Asked whether he would be packing his bags for any show in particular , Kelce replied, “Oh, you know I gotta go support.”
“Yeah, I mean, I think we’re both very career driven,” he added. “I think we both love what we do, and any chance that I can show my support to her, and knowing that she’s showing me all the support in the world throughout the season, it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay.”
The weekend before Swift headed to Paris, Kelce was living his best life at the Kentucky Derby. The NFL star opened up about the “once-in-a-lifetime experience” at the May 4 race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
“I’m a Derby guy now, man,” Kelce said on the May 8 episode of the “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce. “It was so much fun.”
The question now is, will Kelce be taken by the view in Paris?
What will be changing during this leg of the ‘Eras Tour’?
Swift’s Paris shows will be her first live performances since the release of her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” in April.
Six songs (plus one bridge) from the new double album made it into the “Eras Tour” set list: “But Daddy I Love Him,” “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? ,” “Down Bad,” “Fortnight ,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” and part of “So High School .”
During Swift ’ s surprise song set May 10, the singer said she started planning the “Tortured Poets” set “about eight or nine months ago.”
“Then when we got two months off of the ‘Eras Tour,’ we really didn’t take any time off at all. We just went directly back into rehearsal,” she said.
The singer hinted a t the a ddition in an April 25 YouTube Shorts video , which showed a montage of Swift and her backup dancers rehearsing for their European shows.
Many of the scenes were familiar from previous "Eras Tour" shows, but fans noticed one brand-new scene: Swift standing with her backup dancers behind her sporting top hats and holding canes.
That clip previewed an energetic performance of "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart."
“OMG SHE IS ADDING A NEW ERAAAAAAAAAA,”one fan commented on her YouTube video.
“WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT HOW THIS MEANS TAYLOR IS ADDING TTPD TO THE ERAS TOUR SETLIST!?!?” another person wrote.
“The Tortured Poets Department” has been shattering records since its April 19 release. The day it came out, the album became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day, and Swift became Spotify’s most-streamed artist in a single day, the streaming service announced on Instagram .
The album also launched with a record-breaking 2.6 million equivalent album units (which includes downloads, streams, and CD, vinyl and cassette sales) earned the first week of its release in the U.S., according Luminate, Billboard reported.
Swift said her “mind is blown” by the album’s success.
“I’m completely floored by the love you’ve shown this album,” she wrote in an April 28 Instagram post . “2.6 million ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS?? Thank you for listening, streaming, and welcoming Tortured Poets into your life. Feeling completely overwhelmed.
“I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS??” she added. “May 9th can’t come soon enough.”

Taylor Swift Masterfully Reinvents the Eras Tour for Its European Version: See All the Changes

Anticipation hung in the air inside Paris’ La Défense Arena on Thursday night as a clock counted down to Taylor Swift ‘s first European date of the Eras Tour .
Yes, the record-breaking tour had been running for over a year and was very well-documented — Swift even released a concert film of it in October that is now streaming on Disney+ — but tonight was different. Just under a month ago, during a break from the tour, Swift had released her 11th studio album, “ The Tortured Poets Department ,” and this show would mark its live debut.
Popular on Variety
Heading into the “Speak Now” era, Swift debuted a new intro with purple flower visuals, cut “Long Live” and went back to just doing “Enchanted” as the sole song of that album’s set. The “Reputation” era remained unchanged, with Swift even sticking to the same outfit as before — an asymmetrical black-and-red snake bodysuit.
As unfamiliar visuals came across the screen, it became clear that it was now time for “The Tortured Poets Department.” Assorted pieces of furniture — a chair, a lamp, a door — floated from the sky alongside pieces of paper, which then evolved into a desert road where the fixtures crashed onto the floor. Swift then appeared in a white corset dress with cursive writing adorning its skirt and a chunky Vivienne Westwood choker. First up was “But Daddy I Love Him,” followed by a snippet of “So High School” that segued into “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” The set’s graphics were mainly in black-and-white, and included a UFO that looked like it was about to abduct Swift and a filter that whited-out her eyes, giving her a demonic look. One chorus of “Down Bad,” during which Swift rotated around the stage on a spinning metal block, led into “Fortnight,” where a “TTPD”-emblazoned bed was brought out and Swift’s dancers dressed in nurse costumes. As Swift sat across from a dancer on a typewriter, the bed was tilted every which way, creating a fascinating display. She then donned a marching band jacket for “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” as her dancers followed her with drums.
All of the stylings for “The Tortured Poets Department” were vaguely Old Hollywood — perhaps a reference to Clara Bow? — but Swift really hammered that home with a minute-long skit in the middle of the set, in which two of her dancers fling her around like a doll while old-timey music plays. During the skit, Swift’s dress is removed — revealing nothing but a two-piece black set — and she is dressed in a gold jacket and matching heels. “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” followed, furthering the Old Hollywood theme with feather props and a marquee displaying “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.” As Swift and her dancers left the stage, a visual reading “The End” displayed across the screen.
The surprise songs were next, at an unusually late place in the set. Wearing a new pink dress, Swift sang “Paris” — naturally — on the guitar, and then turned to the piano for “Tortured Poets Department” tune “loml,” which marked a tender moment of the set. Swift ended the show, as always, with the “Midnights” era, the songs for which remained the same, though she wore a new blue bodysuit.
Leaving the venue that night, one couldn’t help but feel that they had just witnessed an entirely new show, proving Swift’s expertise in reinvention. She could have just tacked “The Tortured Poets Department” songs onto the beginning or the end, but that would have been too easy. Instead, with more changes sure to come throughout its European leg, she gifted her fans with another reason to come back and see the Eras Tour again and again.
